Help with quotes

Thursday, February 1, 2007 7:14 PM

Not sure where I heard these, and no doubt I am remembering them wrong, so feel free to correct me if you can quote a source.

"Those who would give up their liberty in exchange for security will soon have neither." - Benjamin Franklin

"All citizens of the empire are required to keep, and practice with weapons. Under penalty of death, no subject of the empire shall keep, or practice with weapons." - Roman law. ?? Which are you: Citizen or subject?

"The tree of liberty must occasionally be watered with blood."

From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots. --Thomas Jefferson--

Does that help?

I think it's "freshened with the blood of patriots".

I remember the Franklin quote ending with "are deserving of neither".

Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither. - Benjamin Franklin

Most people say it "Those who would sacrifice," but I do believe up above is the original.
