I believe we have a problem...

That problem being that i can't think of a suitable way to end my 'The Hunter and the Hunted' fanfic.Wait... let me rephrase that. I can't think of a way to kill off my o.c. 'the Hunter'.
This may seem an odd sort of problem but i really want to kill him off, i'm absolutely sick of being inside this guys head and to be honest it's starting to freak me out just a touch.
For those of you unfamiliar with the character he is the Operative's successor and an attempt by Alliance scientists to combine the cold, calculated intelligence of an Operative with the wild, beastial nature of a Reaver. So basically what you have here is the perfect assassin who is also absolutely insane. On one level he is cultured and intelligant and just a little bit charming and on the other he is liable to tear your throat out with his teeth (sort of like a more extreme version of the Nikki/Jessica character from Heroes). Read the fanfics below for more info they all feature him.
As an added bonus he seems to have acquired a sort quasi-psychic/emotion link with River (again read the fics).
So, crazy guy who is faster, stronger and can easily out smart anyone on the crew except River and whose view of the the 'verse makes River at her craziest look perfectly sane.
Any ideas are gladly accepted.

final showdown with river. big huge battle where there is much blood, and suffering. river looses an eye or something. she comes out barely able to walk, and the hunter pinned to a wall with a sword....
I love doing showdowns... they're what I write fics for. Especially when I can mutilate my characters...

I did consider that but one of the things about the whole emotional link thing is that he can sense when shes coming and what she'll do. Granted it works both ways but then that just drives them into a stalemate.

Explosions, explosions are ALWAYS a good way to kill off a character since they're hard to predict/control.

It was nothing, just you seemed to of written a character whose death in anysort of fight seems impossible so maybe another avenue need to be approached.
Ooo or maybe the hands of blue could make a comeback, river seems afraid of them might work for your character. As you can see, nothing constructive, but its the thought that counts :D

I did enjoy your fic posts. I will just think out loud here... make of this what you will. (good advice is probably to see where I am going then head in the opposite direction).
You made him back down in the last chapter - a major character flaw for someone who is supposedly in control.
Play on his mental issues. Why did he back down from victory at the last minute?
He has lost the initiative, even though he thinks he is playing with the crew.
He is out of control. He is arrogant of his superiority over other people.
I would have Kaylee kill him. Yes, Kaylee. Before the crew gets to her.
Possibly have Kaylee bound up in some locker where she has access to gadgets. You know... because he can smell her fear he thinks she is helpless.
Electrocution could be good.
Or, if he is still no that alliance vessel with alliance crew, maybe bring them into the showdown. Caught red handed killing one of them.

I think the ironic justice, just from your brief synopsis here, would be if the guy got et by Reavers. Or maybe join up with them after totally snapping from trying to kill River but also being linked with her, and he just goes on his merry and/or dies from the radiation levels.

I haven't read your fics but what about he get into it good with River. Both are getting pretty torn up and neither of them can gain an appreciable advantage but they are both totally focused on each other. While he is thus distracted, someone else kills him. Knife, sword, gun, whatever. Not a planned thing just taking advantage of the situation.

Or there's always an accident. Sure, he's got uber reflexes but something banging into the ship could still knock him off his feet right? And perhaps into something pointy.

Death by Reaver would be brilliant and ironic...a slobberknocker of a fight with River would rock as well...and I really like nbz's idea of Kaylee using her brain to create a weapon or trap that jsut smites the Hunter. Kind of a karmic payback for Early and whatever you have the Hunter get up to;)
