How long did the unification war last?

Hi, y'all, I'm new to this sight and chat rooms in general! (I'm really not certain how this all works....) But I love firefly and have lots of questions, I grow curiouser and curiouser about, haha!Can anyone tell me how long the war lasted?

From about June-Aug 2506, to the surrender of the Independent High Command in either April or May of 2511. You'll note that the Battle of Serenity Valley continued for a short while until news of the surrender reached the 57th Overlanders.

Thank you so much! The first link was very helpful and I've been all over the wikia pages but the info I'm looking for never seems to be there....
Another question if you don't mind? I can find no info on Jayne, like where's he's from, birthdate, ect. Any suggestions?
