Okay, it's sat with you all a spell now... any new feelings on it?
The Scott Final Cut is still one I totally respect, but the International Cut of the theatrical version is still the one I go to for ultimate satisfaction.

The original is the one I fell in love with at a January '82 pre-screening, and the International Cut just added some interesting shots to it.
Ridley's Final Cut is nice and all, especially fixing some FX shots & stunt double obviousness, and the dialogue non-synch with the snake-trader, but it lost that film noir feel for me, and ended so abruptly--!!!

I like no voice over. I loved it in the theater with voice over, but then I saw it later without, and it's like when tweedle dee tells alice what the jabberwocky means. It's rude and imagination sapping, and also wrong. Without it, I find myself thinking much like I think Philip K Dick would have wanted me to. I also like to think about it in terms of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," and ponder the space in between the two.

The unicorn dream from Legend bugs me because it changes the meaning of Gaff's placement of the Unicorn in Rachael's apartment, which is significant because without Harrison Ford thinking out loud at you, you can't possibly miss the myriad inferences about deckard being a nexus seven, of which I think there are actually seven, so not all that myriad, except that's a lot for a two hour movie. And collectively, they are cleverer than hitting us over the head with a unicorn.

I get that scott was in love with the idea but I also know dick wasn't, because he prefered questions to answers.

But all of those are old thoughts, and I haven't seen the latest releases, so, no, sorry, I don't have any new thoughts.

Well it's the original cinematic release of 82 for me as well. I like my voice overs (It's a throw-back from my love of Film Noir). But I do wish it would just be left alone now. If this were Lucas tinkering he'd be lynched - yet Scott somehow keeps getting away with it. That said it's Scott's second, though imperfect, masterpiece after Alien and though not my favourite sci-fi film it's always a joy to behold; if I'm honest I engage with this film more from a technical stance than a narrative one. I always find myself focussing on the look and the sets and the way the sound works, so I often find myself out of the story. Maybe that's not the best thing.... ?

Still unrivaled in it's depiction of a broken future though. Perhaps never to be topped? Who knows.

Sad that Jordan Cronenweth passed without much made of it, given he's inspired so many cinematographers and film makers.

I've got a bootleg copy of the rare
"Pittsburgh Lobotomy" version of Blade Runner. No voice-over, no sound effects, no color, and no dialogue. You can just sit back and watch the movie with headphones on as it synch's perfectly to Bananarama's 3rd album.

I'd have to say the final cut is awesome. That is what I watch first. Will never dislike the theatrical cut though, and I'll watch that anytime I'm feeling nostalgic.

I'm torn between the Final Cut and the previous incarnation of the Director's Cut, only because of the way the unicorn footage fades in nicely, versus the sudden cut-to in the Final Cut.
Otherwise it's the Final Cut all the way!
When the movie first came out, I made the mistake of mentioning to my Dad the goofs I'd spotted, such as the mistimed light cast by the refinery flames, or the thick wires suspending the Spinners, or the crappy wig on the Zora stunt double. He was an Emmy-winning set designer, and Blade Runner was a religious experience for him, so my finding flaws in it was almost grounds for disowning me, and he never let me live it down.
He died in '95, so the vindication that the Final Cut DVD would've granted me was wasted.

Don't think I've seen that one, but suspect I might prefer it to the US theatrical, my current favourite. All but one of the voiceovers were unnecessary for me, but it wasn't the simple fact that there were voiceovers that made my list of 3 flaws in the movie; it was how badly they were mixed in the original release, seeming significantly louder than dialogue. And I don't buy Ridley's claim that they were added by the studio after his cut; the scene with Graff flying Deckard away from the cop shop was superfluous, were it not for the voiceover (the one I needed)

Anyway, in what Netflix claims is the theatrical release, they seem to have remixed the soundtrack, eliminating that flaw. Two left &, although Ridley did fix those, he @the same time made other changes that did not improve the movie

i agree, it's originally also saying "i was here and didn't kill her.

If you take the unicorn clipped from legend and add it in it's saying, oh, and gaff knows your a replicant. Which is fine as a story element, i figure he probably does, but it kills the riddle element of the story because those whothought they were clever for catching the seven more subtle clues wont feel like they just wasted hat effort, (like that time wulfie posted that video of people singing in estonian, and i felt really good for having recognized it though it wasnt posted, and then he posted, oh, and that was in estonian. DOH!) and for those who didnt like that ending could opt not to accept it, because thats the dickhead way
