People always look at teachers and think "Oh, they've got it so good. Three months off in the summer, their days are usually over by 3pm, etc, etc." What most people don't see is the incredible stress that most of go through at this time of year. For some reason, Californians have stopped giving a crap about education. Budgets have been getting smaller and smaller for years. I've been lucky enough to get into a district that saw this coming and started saving early. But now we got down to a point where we needed to pass a parcel tax in order to keep things at the status quo. It wasn't big; just an extra $140 per year for the next five years. It didn't pass. Almost...60% of the vote when we needed 67%, but the fact is we're not getting the money and the district is now looking at cutting 58 teachers districtwide. By all my estimations, I just might miss the cut...but so barely will it be that I will now be the bottom of the totem pole. But hey, if I make it to next year, I'll at least be tenured. Well, a week ago I was complaining about the voters of Milpitas and the future of my job. By last Friday I heard from the principal that attrition was likely going to take care of all the cuts they'd need to make at the high school. I felt much better, but wasn't counting eggs until the 15th (the date by which they [b]had[/b] to let people know). It's March 16th, and I didn't get a pink slip!

So I now know how the rest of the world feels when we get a first-run series and get to talk all about it and they only get to visualize it and wish they'd seen it too. Some of you already know what I'm talking about. After nearly a 16 year absence (mean, I was 12 at the time), DOCTOR WHO IS FINALLY RETURNING TO TELEVISION! Thanks to SimonWho, who has posted much info about the new series here, I've been able to see some pretty amazing stuff on the new series at the BBC's website! Wow. I don't even know where to start. There's almost a kind of...and I don't know that I'll explain this well...Farscape feel to the trailer and I'm hoping that comes out in the show too. Gone are the days of floppy costumes and six dollar (pound?) budgets! The new series looks incredible and I cannot wait to hear about it. I really want to find someone in the UK who is willing to tape or convert to DVD-R the episodes. I really really really want to see them! But here's what I want to know: How are they going to transition from the 8th Doctor to the 9th Doctor? Do we get to see that at all? And will the episodes be structured the same way? Old way - there'd be 13 stories a season that each have 3-4 episodes. New way - the website says 13 episodes...but will it all be one large storyline?
