Remember these two dates separated by 25 months.
U.S. Withdrawal from Vietnam March 29, 1973
Saigon's Collapse on April 30, 1975
https://www.britannica.com/event/Vietnam-War/The-fall-of-South-Vietnam

For 25 months, Republicans were claiming victory in Vietnam before it was obvious they had lost. Republicans are again doing the same thing, but in Iran. Trump and Hegseth are attempting to obscure the loss by claiming victory. Only Trumptards are retarded enough to believe Trump just as only Nixon supporters were stupid enough to believe Nixon:

Fact-checking Trump and Hegseth's claims of U.S. 'victory' in the Iran war

Apr 9, 2026 5:14 PM EDT

This article originally appeared on PolitiFact.

After announcing a ceasefire in the weekslong war with Iran, President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared that the U.S. had emerged victorious.

When Trump declared April 7 that the U.S. would suspend bombing Iran for two weeks to allow for negotiations, he said the U.S. had "already met and exceeded all military objectives."

"Total and complete victory. 100%. No question about it," Trump told Agence France-Presse.

Hegseth was similarly triumphant. "Operation Epic Fury was a historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield, a capital-V military victory," he said during an April 8 Pentagon press conference. "Epic Fury decimated Iran's military and rendered it combat-ineffective for years to come. "

It will take time to fully assess what the U.S. achieved — as well as any shortcomings or failures. More details will emerge to answer key questions: Will commerce flow through the Strait of Hormuz at its previous levels? When will gas prices decline? How will Iran's new leaders exercise their power? And how long will it take for the U.S. to restock its now-depleted military arsenal?

Trump said in a Truth Social post Sunday that “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking.” Pretty soon, Trumptards will realize that Trump lost to Iran because gasoline prices will zoom higher.

Oil inventories globally are depleting at a record pace as the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. “Rapidly shrinking buffers amid continued disruptions may herald future price spikes ahead,” the IEA said.

Donald Trump : "I had a total military victory, but the fake news, guys like you, write incorrectly. You’re a fake guy. Guys like you write about it incorrectly. We had a total military victory. We’ve had a total victory, except by people like you that don’t write the truth. You know, you should write—I actually think it’s sort of treasonous what you write. You and the New York Times and CNN I would say are the worst."

Donald Trump doesn’t understand why the world won’t admit that he’s won a world-historical victory over Iran. In one of his angriest rants ever, he berated a reporter at great length for questioning his success, even accusing the reporter of treason. It’s no accident that this eruption occurred on his flight home from China. The media coverage has been quite harsh, brutally revealing that he failed to make any real headway with China on Iran, among other things.

So we’re talking today with political scientist David Faris.

Sargent: David, has Trump won the resounding victory he claims?

Faris: Obviously not. The Iran war has not gone at all the way that Trump and his allies thought it would. They were expecting a quick victory, decapitation of the regime, and then replacing it with somebody more compliant—sort of the Venezuela scenario. In fact, they seem to have handed power to people who are even more hardline than the ones that they replaced.

And despite many decades of planning around the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz, it doesn’t seem like anybody in the Trump administration thought for five seconds about what might happen if the strait was indeed closed for some period of time. Trump is in this pickle. He can’t get the Iranians to capitulate. He can’t change the regime without ground troops. And he can’t reopen the strait without a massive escalation that has no guarantee of success anyway. So he’s really between a rock and a hard place right now.

Trump Admitted There’s No Reason to Continue His War With Iran

By Fred Kaplan | May 18, 2026 2:33 PM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2026/05/trump-iran-war-nuclear-rea
son-why.html

On a Fox News show on Friday, host Bret Baier asked Trump whether it might be feasible to retrieve Iran’s enriched uranium. Trump replied that it would be very hard for either the Iranians or U.S. troops to get at the material because his attack last June—a bomber raid on three sites encased inside a mountain—left the “nuclear dust” (as Trump called it) buried under heavy granite rubble.

“It was hit so hard,” Trump said, “the mountain literally collapsed on it.”

This seemed to startle Baier. “Why isn’t that good enough?” the host asked. “If your goal was to set back …”

“It is good enough,” Trump replied, “but you know what, it isn’t good enough public-relations-wise.”
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/fox-bret-baier-confonts-trump-123614176.html

This wasn’t a one-time gaffe. In a separate Fox interview, aired on Thursday, Trump said, “We have nine cameras on that site, on those three sites, 24 hours a day. We know exactly what’s happening. Nobody’s even gotten close to it.” If the Iranians did try to dig out the material, Trump could bomb the sites again.

One might infer, as Baier suggested in his Friday interview, that Iran’s nuclear ambitions are thus effectively contained. But then Trump went on, “I’d just feel better if I got it, actually”—that is, if he somehow removed, or if Iran agreed to remove, the uranium. Then he added, digging himself into a deeper hole: “But I think it’s more for public relations than it is for anything else.”

Trump Is Twisting In The Wind

By Trying To Seem Strong, Trump Is Projecting Weakness; Iran's Delcy Rodriguez Is Known And It Is A Doozy

Phillips P. OBrien
May 20, 2026

This was actually an interesting week because, supposedly, Trump almost did return to the air attack on Iran. He remains as he has been for months stuck. His blockade is not having the quick effect that he first hoped/thought and the Iranian regime is showing no flexibility in the negotiations. In some ways, of course, that means nothing has changed (as always). However that is not entirely true as Trump is getting so desperate and that is making him more erratic. As he twists in the wind like this, he could lash out, though waiting as he is makes that even more risky. Its a really dangerous dynamic.

Other stories that are worth noting this week are that the excuses Trump gave this time not to restart the bombing (other countries asked and the negotiations are going really well) are the exact same ones he has used now for almost two months. They are almost certainly making things worse as in his desire to project strength he is only underlining how weak his position really is. The final story is a quick one that just came out. We have some evidence of whom the US and Israel expected to play Delcy Rodriguez for Iran, and its a doozy.

Trump Is Twisting In The Wind

Trump really did try to convince others, and indeed maybe himself, that he was going to restart the bombing of Iran this week. The White House was spreading the story far and wide (many people at the security conference in Tallinn who have strong Washington connections said an attack was imminent). I also heard from someone else in Washington that it was going to happen that “there is nothing more dangerous than an old king”.

The reality is that Trump got cold feet. He was trying to work up the courage/craziness to go back to direct military attacks and in the end he (once again) blinked.

I suppose it is a good thing that Trump has not lost all sense. The problem is, that his desire to restart military action and then his last minute backing off shows a few things that are very worrying for the USA. I would list them as:

The US Government does now understand that the blockade will take much longer to work than Trump originally claimed. As far as I know, no Iranian oil wells have exploded because of the blockade. Yes, the Iranian government will undoubtedly be faced by an economic problem, but that is not going to have them immediately bend the knee and Trump seems to get that.

The US Government seems to understand that restarting bombing will stand only a very small chance of achieving any of Trump’s strategic aims—especially his big one which is to get a concession on the nuclear question enough to say he got a better deal than Obama under the JCPOA. If Trump believed that there would be any reasonable chance to achieve anything by bombing, he would take that risk. Clearly the odds are judged to be not high.

The markets no longer react to the President’s claims of possible success. For once the oil markets took Trump’s claims for the BS that they are. The price of oil (here is Brent Crude) had a tiny fall on May 18 when Trump tweeted, but immediately rose back to the level it was before he spoke. The fall did not last long enough for insider traders to cash in.

Trump ignored warnings from defense experts [that Netanyahu was lying about nuclear bombs]

By Alex Henderson | May 20, 2026 07:37AM ET

https://www.alternet.org/trump-iran-robert-gates

. . . "Interviewed by CBS, he said that Netanyahu had told him, in July 2009, all the same things he had told Trump in the Situation Room in February. Gates said he had pushed back during that 'no-punches-pulled discussion' of Iran, telling Netanyahu he was underestimating the resilience of the Iranian regime. 'He was saying, in 2009: the regime is fragile, it'll crumble at the first attack, and they won't have time to do anything else.… I told him then, he was dead wrong.'"

Wood adds, "Netanyahu has — almost comically — been warning that Iran is weeks or months away from getting a nuclear bomb for decades."

Trump, Wood notes, "did not have to take Netanyahu's word" about Iran moving closer to developing a nuclear bomb."

"His own intelligence services contradicted the alarming claims," according to Wood. "Before last year's bombing, the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, told a Senate committee that the U.S. intelligence community 'continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Ali) Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program he suspended in 2003.' At the time, Trump declared, 'I don't care what she said. I think they were very close to having one.'"

Wood points out that CIA Director John Ratcliff dismissed Netanyahu's nuclear bomb claims as "farcical," while Secretary of State Marco Rubio called them "b– –."

"Carlson said he warned Trump that a war with Iran would destroy his presidency," Wood observes. "If it does, he has only himself to blame…. So far, in less than 18 months of his second term, Trump has bombed not only Iran, but also Yemen, Somalia, Nigeria and Venezuela. He has threatened to attack Cuba, Panama, Greenland and even Canada. Though Netanyahu may have manipulated Trump, he was only feeding Trump's deep desires. Whatever regrets he might have, Trump owns this war."

U.S. bears brunt of Israel’s missile defense, Pentagon assessments show

May 21, 2026

https://attentiontotheunseen.com/2026/05/21/u-s-bears-brunt-of-israels

The Washington Post reports:

The U.S. military has depleted much of its inventory of advanced missile-defense interceptors after expending far more high-end munitions defending Israel amid hostilities with Iran than Israeli forces used themselves, according to Defense Department assessments described to The Washington Post.

The imbalance, according to three U.S. officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security matters, underscores the extent to which Washington has shouldered the burden of countering Iranian ballistic missile strikes during Operation Epic Fury, and raises questions about U.S. military readiness and security commitments around the world.

The United States launched more than 200 Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, interceptors in defense of Israel — roughly half of the Pentagon’s total inventory — along with more than 100 Standard Missile-3 and Standard Missile-6 interceptors fired from naval vessels in the eastern Mediterranean, said the U.S. officials, who, like others in this article, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security matters. By contrast, Israel fired fewer than 100 of its Arrow interceptors and around 90 David’s Sling interceptors, some of which were used against less sophisticated projectiles fired by Iran-backed groups in Yemen and Lebanon.

Military analysts said the data described to The Post offers a rare window into how the United States and Israel work together.

“The numbers are striking,” said Kelly Grieco, a senior fellow at the Stimson Center. “The United States absorbed most of the missile defense mission while Israel conserved its own magazines. Even if the operational logic was sound, the United States is left with roughly 200 THAAD interceptors and a production line that can’t keep pace with demand.”

The shortage of U.S. interceptors has alarmed U.S. allies in Asia, particularly Japan and South Korea, which rely on the United States as a deterrent to potential threats from North Korea and China. “That bill risks coming due in theaters that have nothing to do with Iran,” said Grieco.

U.S. and Israeli officials routinely tout their close cooperation and the strength of Israel’s multilayered air-defense system. But the Defense Department assessments suggest a more lopsided dynamic.

Trump’s Endgame Is Surrender

He seems to hope to slip away without Americans noticing the magnitude of this defeat.

By Robert Kagan | May 21, 2026, 4 PM ET

https://www.theatlantic.com/international/2026/05/trump-surrender-iran
-endgame/687252
/

The outlines of President Trump’s endgame in the Iran war are now emerging. In a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday, Trump reportedly explained that the United States was negotiating a “letter of intent” with Iran that would “formally end the war and launch a 30-day period of negotiations” on Iran’s nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The purpose and effect of such an agreement should be clear: The United States is walking away from the crisis. Trump may launch another limited strike to look tough and satisfy the demands of the war’s supporters, but it would be a performative gesture. Endgame in this case is a euphemism for “surrender.”

Trump has blinked many times in the confrontation with Iran—ever since March 18, when Israel attacked the Pars gas field and Iran retaliated with a strike against Qatar’s most important natural-gas-production facility. Trump then called for a halt on U.S. and Israeli targeting of Iran’s energy infrastructure, and the war effectively ended.

Trump’s repeated threats to resume attacks since then have proved to be bluffs. The leaders in Tehran have been calculating for two months that Trump would not launch another attack, and for this reason they have made no concessions despite the damage they suffered from 37 days of relentless strikes. On the contrary, their terms for a settlement are those of a victor: They demand war reparations, no limits on uranium enrichment, recognized control of the strait, and an end to sanctions.

For Trump to respond to this defiance by now calling for another 30 days of cease-fire and talks is a tacit admission of defeat. If he does launch a performative attack in the next few days, the Iranians will understand it for what it is. No one believes that he is going to resume a full-scale war a month from now. Among other reasons, with 30 more days to heal, rearm, and fill its coffers with tolls, Iran will be a more formidable adversary.

In 30 days, moreover, the new Iranian strait regime may already be firmly in place. As the Institute for the Study of War reports, Iran has been using the cease-fire period to “normalize” its control over the strait by “compelling oil-importing countries” to establish transit agreements with Tehran and charging fees on vessels from nations without such deals. According to Iranian officials, the new strait regime will give Iran’s strategic partners, such as Russia and China, priority and allow nations friendly to Iran, such as India and Pakistan, to negotiate their own transit agreements. Vessels associated with nations that Iran regards as an adversary will be denied access to the strait entirely.

Several nations, including South Korea, Turkey, and Iraq, are reportedly already negotiating at least temporary transit agreements. Now that Trump has made clear he has no intention of fighting to reopen the strait, the stampede to get good terms with Tehran will begin. All nations heavily dependent on energy from the Persian Gulf will want to cut their deal quickly to get the oil and gas and other commodities flowing and rescue their battered economy. Those nations currently allied with the United States and friendly to Israel will feel pressure to distance themselves and make their peace with Iran. The international sanctions against Iran will collapse, and even more money will pour into the country’s accounts as its newly central role in the global economy becomes normalized. By the end of 30 days, most of the world will have a stake in the new arrangement and will oppose any resumption of hostilities, even in the unlikely event that Trump wanted to go back to war.

Trump no doubt hopes that he can slip away without Americans noticing the magnitude of this defeat. The financial markets may st

Donald J. Trump 11/10/13 Remember that I predicted a long time ago that President Obama will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly – not skilled!

Every accusation is either an admission of guilt or something he plans to do.

Between 2011 and 2013, Donald J. Trump made multiple statements predicting that then-President Barack Obama would attack or start a war with Iran. He repeatedly claimed that Obama would use military conflict as a political distraction to win re-election, save face, or compensate for perceived poor negotiation skills. These predictions did not materialize during the Obama administration. Former President Obama never launched an attack on Iran, but instead pursued diplomatic negotiations that culminated in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear agreement.

Why Trump Lost

The president failed to deliver on his Iran bluster, and in the end fooled only himself.

By David Frum | May 24, 2026, 10:45 AM ET

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/2026/05/why-trump-lost-iran/68729
1
/

The first surprising thing about President Trump’s impending defeat in the 2026 Iran war is that he already fought and won a successful war against Iran last year. In June 2025, U.S. and Israeli air strikes badly damaged the Iranian nuclear program in 12 days of bombardment. Exactly how badly remains controversial. But they didn’t do nothing. If Trump had quit while ahead, he could have banked his gains from last June as a solid if imperfect win.

The second surprising thing about Trump’s impending defeat is that he does not seem to have cared at all about the only evident reason to resume fighting in 2026: the Iranian people’s rebellion against their brutal oppressors. Trump has never given any evidence of caring about Iranian democracy or human rights. He promised the Iranian people “Help is on the way” on January 13, but military operations did not commence until thousands were dead and the rebellion was already effectively crushed. During military operations, Trump made clear that he sought a deal with the existing regime. He made no effort to support or cooperate with Iranian dissidents before, during, or after the uprising.

The third surprising thing about Trump’s impending defeat is that even he himself seems never to have understood why he went back to war against Iran. What exactly did he think he would achieve? He kept saying that he wanted to ensure that Iran never developed a nuclear weapon. He also insisted that he had effectively prevented it from doing so in August. He seemed genuinely to believe that claim. If so, why resume the fighting? If, however, those words were wrong, then why not simply hit the nuclear sites again? Why the need for this bigger war?

Trump started the February 28 war for reasons of personality, not strategy. He is on his way to losing the war for the same reasons of personality.

Trump is arrogant. Think how often Trump mocks his predecessors as “dumb” and praises himself as “smart.” Those predecessors, from Jimmy Carter through Ronald Reagan to Joe Biden, all had to ponder military responses to Iranian terrorism and aggression. They all ultimately decided not to wage a major war against Iranian national territory. Among the prime deterrents to action: the Strait of Hormuz problem. Trump apparently decided that a problem that was too hard for everybody else would magically disappear for him, because he is tough and growls in his official photographs.

Trump is reckless. Trump is not a plan-ahead guy. He plunges into desperate adventures without any clear endgame in mind. What really was Trump’s plan on January 6, 2021? After Mike Pence was seized by rioters and forced at gunpoint to recite the magic words Trump wanted him to say, what was supposed to happen then? The 81 million American majority who’d voted against Trump in 2020 would submit? The military, CIA, and FBI would follow blatantly illegal orders? In 2021, Trump provoked violence and hoped it would all somehow work out. He followed the same approach again in 2026.

Trump hates procedure. A lot of the apparatus of the modern presidency exists to force confrontations with unwelcome realities. Cabinet officers are confirmed by the Senate to assure the country that major offices are filled by people of character and competence. The National Security Council is supposed to process challenging data to ensure that the president receives necessary information. But to run the Department of Defense, Trump nominated and the Senate approved Pete Hegseth. Instead of choosing a national security adviser to replace Mike Waltz after Waltz’s resignation on May 1, 2025, Trump tapped Secretary of State Marco Rubio to take on the role. But to double up that particular job dooms the job not to be done at all, especially because Trump has shriveled the NSC’s staff and subjected it to loyalty tests demand

Just checking if you got the story right. You didn't, but that is not surprising from a Trumptard. Trump twists facts out of shape, and so do his followers:

Barack Obama famously supported eliminating the Electoral College during his time as an Illinois state senator, notably stating during a 2004 debate that the system was breaking down. However, as he transitioned into the presidency, he never actively pursued its abolition. He addressed this shift in perspective directly during a December 2016 press conference. When asked about reforming the Electoral College, he acknowledged its drawbacks but explained that changing it was not an actionable priority. He cited the following reasons: Massive Constitutional Hurdles: Abolishing the system entirely would require a difficult constitutional amendment (requiring a two-thirds vote in Congress and ratification by 38 states).Priorities in Office: During his terms, he focused his political capital on issues like the Affordable Care Act, economic recovery, and other legislative priorities rather than structural constitutional reform. Ultimately, he noted that if the popular vote and Electoral College align, the system functions as designed without widespread public outcry, though he acknowledged it puts a premium on swing states.

Why Hasn’t Oil Hit $150?

By Robert Rapier - May 25, 2026, 9:00 AM CDT

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Why-Hasnt-Oil-Hit-150.html

Global oil inventories and floating storage have acted as temporary shock absorbers against the Hormuz disruption.

OPEC spare capacity has stabilized markets, but it cannot fully replace lost Persian Gulf exports indefinitely.

Prolonged disruption could eventually exhaust market buffers and trigger a much sharper oil price surge.

The Market’s Hidden Shock Absorbers

The biggest reason the oil market hasn’t reacted more violently to the Strait of Hormuz closure is simple: the world entered this crisis with more inventory than many analysts appreciated. Those barrels have acted as a shock absorber. They don’t eliminate the problem. They just delay it.

I'm not complaining about what he didn't do after the fact, and I'm not suggesting that you do either.

What you should be pissed about is that he knew full fucking well that it was NEVER, EVER going to happen, but just like all of your chronic lying Democrats do, he ran hard as hell on the "fact" that it was going to be a top priority for his administration.

They get away with doing that every election. Over and over and over and overa again..

Because you are fucking stupid.

So don't talk to me about politicians who don't keep their promises if you're only ever going to talk about Trump.

Show me a politician that doesn't renege on most of their promises and I'll show you a fucking unicorn.

‘Worse than Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan Combined’:
Donald Trump faces a political crisis like no other if Hormuz isn’t opened by Labor Day

By Harry J. Kazianis | May 26, 2026

https://nationalsecurityjournal.org/worse-than-vietnam-iraq-and-afghan
istan-combined-donald-trump-faces-a-political-crisis-like-no-other-if-hormuz-isnt-opened-by-labor-day
/

Labor Day 2026 falls on September 7. From today’s date, May 26, that is 14 weeks away. The Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed to normal commercial traffic since the opening of Operation Epic Fury on February 28, which means we are already at the 13 week mark of a disruption that energy analysts originally modeled as the worst-case sustained closure scenario.

If the strait remains effectively closed through Labor Day, the United States will be at the twenty-seven-week mark of disruption — more than double the duration the global oil market was designed to withstand without permanent damage. The SPR (U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve) would be at the lowest level in more than three decades. Brent would likely trade well above $130 per barrel under that scenario, with the upside ceiling energy analysts have circulated at $175 per barrel, representing sustained physical scarcity rather than a financial market panic. Gasoline at American pumps would reach $5.50 to $6.00 per gallon. Inflation, already running at 4.5 percent PCE through Q1, would accelerate sharply again. The Federal Reserve would face the choice of either tightening monetary policy into an active oil shock or accepting the kind of sustained price increases that produced the political destruction of the Carter administration in 1979 and 1980.

But, to be frank, the above is a more optimistic scenario. Some experts I have talked to are firmly convinced that if we get to Labor Day and there is no deal to open the Strait, a deep recession is very possible. These experts believe we will draw down the SPR much faster, creating an energy crisis we could only dream of. Think 1970s gas lines sort of stuff.

The Military Strikes Do Not Hide The Fact That The US Has No Good Military Options Against Iran

Will Trump get some form of words from Iran about a nuclear deal that he can sell to the US population as better than that negotiated by President Obama under the JCPOA? The problem is that nothing he is getting so far, as he seems to grasp, is as good as the JCPOA. As such, it seems to be dawning on him that he might have to accept a deal that leaves Iran in control of its nuclear destiny. He even tweeted about it late on Monday in what looks like a clear attempt to prepare his supporters for this eventuality.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
The Enriched Uranium (Nuclear Dust!) will either be immediately turned over to the United States to be brought home and destroyed or, preferably, in conjunction and coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran, destroyed in place or, at another acceptable location, with the Atomic Energy Commission, or its equivalent, being witness to this process and event. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT

Anything “destroyed in place or, an another acceptable location” means out of US control—nothing more or nothing less. Maybe Putin’s Russia will do? It certainly would qualify under Trump’s criterion.

Trump called on almost all the Arab states in the region to agree to join the Abraham Accords and recognize Israel.

It was the reaction, or lack thereof, that was really illuminating of US decline. Trump did not just tweet this; he was very serious about it and mentioned it in a conference call to the leaders of key Islamic states. The response of those leaders was stunned silence, so much so that Trump was worried that the call had been dropped. As one story said:

“There was silence on the line and Trump joked and asked if they are still there”

Since then, not a single state has agreed to Trump’s request and no one even seems to be taking it seriously. The truth is that the states Trump was trying to cajole into joining the Abraham Accords are now more than acquainted with US weakness and unreliability. The last thing they are going to do is jump to the tune of a declining US that is being outmaneuvered by Iran. It used to be that when the US president suggested a major foreign policy move, people would at least respond.

The US is being defied by its enemies and dismissed by its friends and it is all happening in front of our eyes.

Every few weeks, there's a new disaster that would have sunk any other president

For example, take the war in Iran. Trump launched this war with no immediate provocation or casus belli — a simple opportunistic war of aggression that incinerated whatever shreds of goodwill remained towards the United States among much of the international community.

Trump then proceeded — so far, at least — to lose the war he started. Despite the preemptive strike and America’s far greater technological capability, Iran reportedly retains most of its arsenal of weaponry:

US intelligence assessments show that Iran retains significant missile capabilities despite repeated claims by the Trump administration that Tehran’s military had been severely weakened, according to a report by The New York Times…The report said intelligence findings compiled in early May showed Iran had regained operational access to 30 of its 33 missile sites along the Strait of Hormuz. Officials familiar with the assessments told the newspaper that Iran still possesses roughly 70 percent of its prewar missile stockpile and mobile launchers…Citing reports from military intelligence agencies, the report stated that Iran has regained access to roughly 90 percent of its underground missile storage and launch facilities nationwide, which are now assessed to be “partially or fully operational.”

And:

Iran has already restarted some of its drone production during the six-week ceasefire that began in early April, one sign it is rapidly rebuilding certain military capabilities degraded by US-Israeli strikes, according to two sources familiar with US intelligence assessments. Four sources told CNN that US intelligence indicates Iran’s military is reconstituting much faster than initially estimated…The rebuilding of military capabilities, including replacing missile sites, launchers and production capacity for key weapons systems destroyed during the current conflict, means that Iran remains a significant threat to regional allies…It also calls into question claims about the extent to which US-Israeli strikes have degraded Iran’s military in the long term…

Iran has been able to rebuild much faster than expected due to a combination of factors, ranging from the support it is receiving from Russia and China to the fact that the US and Israel did not inflict as much damage as the two countries had hoped, one of the sources told CNN.

America’s own stock of weapons, on the other hand, has been dangerously depleted in the conflict, and our defense-industrial base is not managing to rebuild them.

Even as the U.S. has failed to cripple Iran’s military, Iran’s military has succeeded in closing the Strait of Hormuz, sending gasoline prices soaring and causing a significant bump in inflation:

Incapable of defeating Iran on the battlefield and increasingly wounded by Iran’s economic retaliation, Trump is pushing hard for any sort of face-saving deal that would allow him to exit the conflict quickly. Whatever deal Trump eventually cuts is going to leave Iran in a much stronger position — and American interests in the region — much weaker than before Trump launched his war. Here’s Robert Kagan:

Defeat for the United States, therefore, is not only possible but likely. Here is what defeat looks like.

Iran remains in control of the Strait of Hormuz. The common assumption that, one way or another, the strait will reopen when the crisis ends is unfounded. Iran has no interest in returning to the status quo ante…The power to close or control the flow of ships through the strait is greater and more immediate than the theoretical power of Iran’s nuclear program. This leverage will allow the leaders in Tehran to force nations to lift sanctions and normalize relations or face penalties…

The new status quo in the strait will also occasion a substantial shift in relative power and influence both regionally and globally. In the region, the United

I don't recall Iran making a single strike on American soil. I've read that Iran has seen an estimated 3,500 dead compared to 13 Americans. That's nearly 270 times the amount of deaths of Americans. We've destroyed a ton of their infrastructure and war machines. To this day, not a single warship has been sunk by Iran, yet we've sunk dozens of theirs.

The Iran war has increased U.S. consumer fuel bills by an estimated $40 billion to $45 billion, according to analyses from Brown University's Costs of War project and energy market trackers. The soaring fuel costs break down as follows: Gasoline: Accounts for over $20 billion of the total increase. Diesel: Adds another $16.9 billion, which directly raises the costs of trucking, rail, and farming that get passed on to consumers.Aviation: U.S. airlines experienced a spike in jet fuel expenses, costing over $3.2 billion more commercially. On an individual level, this surge equates to an additional $300 to $330 per average American household. Did the US lose the Vietnam War? Hopefully, you are aware it did. Why did it lose? It wasn't because there are 58,318 names on the Vietnam War Memorial, but because North Vietnam wouldn't surrender despite millions of deaths. How much did it cost the US to lose? The Vietnam War cost the United States an estimated $1.6 trillion to $1.7 trillion in 2026 prices.

Ukraine has not lost until it surrenders. What little the US spent there is small compared to $1,500 billion of defense spending in Trump's Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 budget request. https://www.crfb.org/blogs/defense-funding-put-context

Iran has not lost until it surrenders all its enriched uranium, surrenders control of the Strait, recognizes the right of Israel to exist, and changes its government from an Islamic Republic to a Christian democracy, or something, maybe Trump Jr as the next Shah of Iran.

[Trump said he already won, so why is he talking about outwaiting Iran?]

Trump says he won't be rushed into a deal with Iran because "I don't care about the midterms"

By Adam Cancryn | May 27, 2026

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/05/27/world/live-news/iran-war-us-news

President Donald Trump on Wednesday vowed to strike a favorable deal to end the war with Iran, warning that the regime’s efforts to outlast him won’t work because “I don’t care about the midterms.”

“They thought they were going to outwait me, you know? We’ll outwait him, he’s got the midterms,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting, dismissing concerns about the war’s political toll at home.

“I don’t care about the midterms. Look what happened last night, that was a prelude to the midterms. People understand it,” he said, alluding to his endorsed candidate winning a Texas GOP Senate primary runoff.

The president expressed confidence that the US would soon reach an agreement to end the conflict, though he cautioned that his administration is not yet satisfied with the terms — and is willing to resume fighting if it can’t secure its demands.

“We’re not satisfied with it, but we will be,” Trump said. “Either that, or we’ll have to just finish the job.”

He also touted the resumption of internet access in Iran as a sign the regime’s hardline stance was weakening, arguing that “their whole economic system is broken down.”

“They want to just make a deal,” he said. “I don’t think they have a choice.”

6ix, you are afraid of me stomping on your face. Your beligerance cannot disguise your terror.

When the war started, President Trump never declared formal war aims, but based on things the administration said, something like this seemed to be in their mind. They wanted a formal termination of the Iranian nuclear program that the United States had badly damaged through air strikes last summer. The Trump administration wanted some kind of termination of the ballistic-missile program.

The president of the United States had promised help is on the way to the tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, of Iranian people who rose up against their terrorist, repressive, theocratic regime. And you might have thought that some kind of help for the Iranian people would be part of the outcome that the United States sought—and maybe some kind of end to Iran’s practice of being the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, a status it’s held since the Iranian Revolution of 1979, with blood on its hands of people all over the world, including many Americans, from its terrorism and aggression. Some kind of change in the nature of the regime to make it less dangerous to its neighbors and its own people.

None of that happened, or none of that looks to have happened. All that looks to have happened is a reversion to the status quo as it was before the war started. It is a pretty humbling climbdown.

Saying ‘we won’ the Iran war is easy. Now’s the hard part.

At one point, President Trump was demanding “unconditional surrender” from Iran. Now, the U.S. is working toward a different set of objectives to try to end the war.

By Ned Temko Columnist

May 27, 2026, 6:35 p.m. ET | London

https://www.csmonitor.com/Perspectives/Essays/2026/0527/Saying-we-won-
the-Iran-war-is-easy.-Now-s-the-hard-part

“We’ve got to finish the job, right?” When U.S. President Donald Trump made that remark at a rally in Kentucky back in March, the Iran war had barely begun. And with huge firepower at his command, he exuded confidence that the endgame would be a mere formality. The war, he told the crowd of supporters, had already been “won.”

Yet 2 1/2 months on, Mr. Trump’s definition of “finishing the job” has fundamentally changed.

Despite this week’s familiar dissonance between hints of an imminent peace deal and a resumption of U.S. military strikes in Iran, the focus is no longer on achieving a definitive battlefield victory.

It’s about getting to a political arrangement that the president can sell to his supporters, winding down a war that is broadly unpopular with voters, and – by reopening the Strait of Hormuz – at least beginning to halt soaring oil and gas prices before November’s midterm elections.

The outline of an agreement with Iran, as envisaged by the Trump administration, has started to become clear from mediators involved in the talks.

First, confirmation of the ceasefire announced in early April, not long after the Kentucky rally, and since extended by Mr. Trump well past its original two-week duration.

Then, a monthlong process of reopening of the Strait of Hormuz – with Iran allowing free passage, and the United States ending its counterblockade of Iranian ports.

And alongside this, negotiations on what Mr. Trump has defined as the central aim of going to war in the first place: closing off Iran’s pathway to getting a nuclear weapon.

That could be especially delicate political territory for the president.

Any new Iran deal will inevitably be measured against President Barack Obama’s 2015 nuclear agreement with Tehran, which Mr. Trump denounced as “horrible” and pulled the U.S. out of during his first term.

Even before achieving an acceptable resolution on any of these issues, Mr. Trump is being forced to confront a reality about the war that was becoming apparent when he claimed victory in places including Kentucky: its “asymmetric” nature, echoing America’s long involvement in, and ultimate retreat from, Vietnam.

Yes, U.S. and Israeli forces had comprehensively outgunned Iran. They had struck thousands of targets across the country, sunk much of its navy, and killed its senior leaders.

In conventional military terms, Iran was incapable of matching America’s power.

Yet Tehran showed no sign of wanting to sue for peace.

Its regime and its military had survived. It was launching drones and missiles at America’s Gulf Arab allies, and was effectively blocking the strait through which one-fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas supplies usually traveled.

Iran retains that leverage. And, as Mr. Trump now seems to recognize, it’s unlikely to be undone even by a full-scale return to war – something key Arab allies are especially keen to avoid.

This means that the possibility, and eventual shape, of a negotiated agreement depends on Iran’s priorities as well.

Reports on the ongoing talks in recent weeks have suggested the Iranians are open to a ceasefire and a gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Even on some key nuclear issues – to judge by the indirect talks with Iran before Mr. Trump launched the war – there seems to be a prospect of common ground.

Iran’s leadership has long insisted that it does not intend to develop a nuclear weapon. It’s been receptive to diluting its near-weapons-grade stores of uranium, or perhaps moving them to an agreed third country such as Russia.

But in talks this week with representatives in the Gulf state of Qatar, Iran’s ne

US-Israel war on Iran driving historic levels of global hunger, UN says

Conflict and cuts in funding have left World Food Programme ‘taking from the hungry to feed the starving’

“On the funding side, we had a drop of nearly 40% year on year,” Skau said, adding that it immediately affected staffing levels, particularly in Afghanistan and Yemen, where the Trump administration has cut off all emergency food funding. “We had to let go of 5,000 people. In Afghanistan, it’s meant we went from supporting 10 million to 2 million. It was a huge, huge drop last year.” . . .

“The price of food and energy is so closely correlated that in some places if the price of energy goes up 30%, food inflation almost meets that,” Skau said. “In a least developed country, amongst the most vulnerable, they’re already spending all their money on food, and so that means they eat 30% or 40% less.”

The War Trump Can’t End

Washington needs a deal, but Tehran needs an enemy.

By Karim Sadjadpour | May 29, 2026

https://www.theatlantic.com/international/2026/05/iran-america-attenti
on-goals/687374

For nearly five decades, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been preparing for a war that Donald Trump expected would take days.

As virtually every American president since World War II has learned, a monopoly on focus can outlast a monopoly on power. America under Trump is the attention-deficit superpower, pinballing from isolationism to interventionism in Venezuela, Iran, and Cuba, having hollowed out the State Department. The Islamic Republic is an obsessive-compulsive revolutionary state—a regime with a half-century fixation on resisting America, rather than advancing the welfare of its own people. Fighting America is not the regime’s policy; it’s the regime’s identity.

The deadlock is both ideological and structural. To justify the immense costs of conflict to American taxpayers, Trump must demand far more from Tehran in any deal than he would have before the war began. Conversely, having lost hundreds of billions of dollars and its top leadership, Iran’s theocracy must demand far more—and concede far less—than it ever would have previously. Neither side can afford a deal that the other might accept. And in a zero-sum negotiation, Iran’s monomaniacal focus is a greater currency than American military power.

Trump may pause his war against Iran. But the Islamic Republic’s 47-year ideological war with “the Great Satan, America, and its trained beast, the Zionist regime”—in the recent words of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader—will continue in earnest. U.S.-Iran negotiations yield zero trust and zero closure. A win-win scenario does not exist. Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, regional proxies, and missile programs will menace the Middle East so long as the Islamic Republic is in power.

Tehran is transparent about its negotiating tactics. “The Iranian negotiation style is generally known in the world as the ‘bazaar style,’ which means continuous and tireless bargaining,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote in his 2025 diplomatic memoir. “This method is a process of interaction that requires great patience and time,” and thus, “he who gets tired and bored quickly will lose.” Trump has twice grown bored with diplomacy and resorted to military action against Iran.

The first phase of any deal would require Tehran to de-mine the Strait of Hormuz and cease harassing vessels traversing it, and the United States to lift its blockade proportionally—restoring, in theory, the prewar reality of an unfettered international waterway. For Tehran, the strait has become its greatest source of leverage. Iran’s implicit control over it—and the global economy—is both a potential fixed-revenue stream and a deterrent against future attacks. “This time, papers and signatures are not guarantees,” Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, said. “The objective guarantee for preserving any agreement is the Strait of Hormuz.”

A coordinated reopening of the strait could be a prelude to successful nuclear negotiations, but it could also prove merely an intermission in fighting. The resumption of traffic through the strait would bring down oil prices—a crucial strategic objective in itself for the U.S., because it would make a return to war, if necessary, more sustainable, one senior official told me, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive diplomatic matters. Similarly for Tehran, the pause would provide much-needed cash and an opportunity to refortify its military.

Trump-administration officials believe that once the strait is reopened, Tehran will have a hard time closing it again: “It’s a card they can only play once,” the senior official said. Tehran appears confident taking opposite bets: that it has established a de facto Strait of Hormuz protection racket, and that the closer Trump gets to

Trump is bored and wants everyone to leave him alone

The picture above shows bodies of U.S. troops lying on the beach after the terrible first day of the Battle of Tarawa in 1943. This and other horrifying photos were released to the American public soon after the fighting. As the New York Times explained in 2023, these images were barely censored before being shown to American audiences, and prompted outrage at home. Instead of scenes of victory, the American public was confronted by haunting images in which, as [one of the war photographers] described it, “riddled corpses formed a ghastly fringe along the narrow white beaches, where men of the Second Marine Division died for every foot of sand.”

Just a few months after the landings, a full-length documentary containing gruesome footage, “With the Marines at Tarawa,” was released in theaters.

In other words, in the middle of a desperate, existential war, the U.S. government believed that citizens had a right to know what was happening — up to and including seeing graphic images of ugly setbacks.

But that was another America.

Today Donald Trump, who now says that talks with Iran are “very boring,” insists that anyone questioning how his war is going is unpatriotic:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A, and those that are with us. But don't the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is MUCH tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively "chirping," at levels never seen before, over and over again, that I should move faster, or move slower, or go to war, or not go to war, or whatever. Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end - It always does! President DJT

Trump is Looking for a Lifeline

Heather Cox Richardson | Jun 02, 2026

https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/trump-is-looking-for-a-lif

Iran is in no hurry to throw Trump a lifeline. Their negotiators now maintain they have a right to control the Strait of Hormuz. They're demanding reparations for the damage inflicted in the country during the war, and they say they won't negotiate over the nuclear program until there is a ceasefire. But these conditions are all problematic for Trump's negotiators.

Permitting Iran to control the Strait is not just about oil; it's about the principle of freedom of the seas set out after World War II. Global trade depends on that concept. The exchange of money is also a problem for Trump. He has spent much of his political life attacking the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK, the US, and the European Union negotiated with Iran during the Obama administration, claiming that former President Obama gave Iran $1.7 billion. In fact, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action simply permitted the release of Iranian assets frozen overseas by sanctions. But much of Trump's base believes that Obama showed weakness by buying an agreement.

And then there's the nuclear issue. So what has tended to happen in negotiations is that the teams come up with a framework, details leak to the media, and Trump's base hears that Trump has weakened on some of his maximalist demands. They complain, Trump then posts something false about the talks or incendiary about Iran, and the negotiations fall apart.

Last Friday, Trump and his advisors spent two hours discussing the latest round of negotiations in the Situation Room. According to Erica Solomon and Farnas Fasihi of the New York Times, that agreement included the release of about $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets and a post-war investment fund to rebuild Iran, with one diplomat telling the journalists the number on the table was $300 billion. Talks about Iran's nuclear program would be deferred. On Friday morning, Trump posted once again that the strait would be opened and that Iran must never have a nuclear weapon. But then he emerged from the Situation Room without the final determination on the agreement he had promised.

On Saturday, Mohsin Rezaei, one of the advisors to Iran's Supreme Leader, posted, "As predicted, the President of the United States is betraying diplomacy for the third time."

How Weak Is The USA?
Phillips P. OBrien
Jun 03, 2026

https://phillipspobrien.substack.com/p/midweek-update-13-how-weak-is-t
he

In discussing the present situation with a knowledgeable US source yesterday, I asked how Trump eventually gets out of the Iran War (which he remains desperate to do). The response I got was fascinating. I was told, “Right now he cannot get out. It is physics.” What this person meant is that while Trump tries constantly to wriggle away, the unbreakable hold that Iran and Israel have over his power/position always sucks him back in. The US does not control its own destiny at this point in the war . . .

Cast your mind back to almost exactly a year ago. Trump had joined the Israeli bombing of Iran for one night in June 2025 and celebrated it as a great victory. Then, Trump was determined to end that phase of the war asap, and even though the Israelis believed that their campaign needed to go on, he ordered them, publicly and humiliatingly, to stop.

Trump’s public rebuke to Israel was accepted then, and the Israelis did stop the bombing of Iran, even reportedly turning around some aircraft that were already flying. In the last few weeks, Trump has tried to do something similar, and the Israelis are basically not reacting, but doing what Netanyahu wants to do in Lebanon.

For those who have not been following this, any deal with Iran that is acceptable to Iran must include protection for Lebanon. Netanyahu, however, has determined that a growing war in Lebanon is in his interest and has been steadily expanding the invasion of that country in the meantime. Israel now has established control over a long buffer zone.

This Israeli military action has been driving Trump nuts. That is not because he cares about the Lebanese people (he could not give a damn about them) but because he cannot get a deal with Iran unless Israel relents. Unlike last year, however, Trump cannot simply order the Israelis to turn around—and as such is getting desperate. He is even losing control over himself when he talks with Netanyahu.

US House votes to end Trump’s Iran war: Does it matter?

Four Republicans join Democrats in a rare public rebuke of the president. But Congress is still far from being able to stop him from attacking Iran again.

. . . the vote will remain largely symbolic because of Trump’s own presidential veto power on legislation . . . [It is a serious conceptual flaw in the law that the President can veto the enforcement of the law that restrains the President. It would be like giving the President the power to veto an impeachment of the President. Or a President pardoning himself.]

The War Powers Act, which has been in force since 1973, requires the president to seek lawmakers’ approval before entering armed conflict. But if a President unilaterally goes to war without approval and Congress fails to declare war afterwards, the president must withdraw troops within 60 days of entering the war. Trump failed to withdraw troops deployed to fight the war at its 60-day mark: around April 29.

Trump's illusion: From Tehran 2026 to Munich 1938

The initial drafts of the negotiations recall the sweeping concessions Chamberlain granted Hitler. Despite the massive bombing campaign Trump ordered, the US is on track to give Tehran billions and leave its nuclear program intact. If the West again chooses a false peace, the duty to stop this existential threat will fall on Israel.

By Gil Samsonov | 05-28-2026 11:20

https://www.israelhayom.com/opinions/trumps-illusion-from-tehran-2026-
to-munich-1938
/

The initial leaks from the draft agreement with Iran horrified me and led me to reflect on the 1938 Munich Agreement, which was ostensibly a peace accord but in practice served as the West's surrender agreement to Nazi Germany. Instead of stopping the Nazis, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain gave Adolf Hitler a license to continue Nazi expansion in exchange for a false peace.

Only one man stood against that surrender: Winston Churchill. Another year and a half would pass, along with the invasions of Poland, Norway and Denmark, before he would be chosen as prime minister of a British unity government and save the world at the last minute.

Once again, the West wants peace at any price, to the point that it is prepared to make sweeping concessions to a new oppressor and give a dangerous state a license to expand and trample its neighbors. Once again, the West is surrendering to a state that does not try to hide its extremist worldview.

Precisely after the courageous leader of the free world, US President Donald Trump, launched a second campaign against the nuclearizing ayatollah state and commanded the largest bombing campaign in history by the tremendous forces of the Israeli and US militaries, we expected his envoys to complete the regime's subjugation at the negotiating table. But it appears that the US is capitulating in the talks.

With mediation by countries close to the ayatollahs' regime, such as Pakistan and Qatar, it appears the Iranians are emerging from the campaign victorious. The nuclear process will continue, and Iran will receive many more billions than Barack Obama gave it. The US will be left with what it already had before the fighting: the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and a drop in fuel prices.

The winner of the deal

When the draft agreement was published, countries in the region quickly grasped its significance and began moving closer to the winner: Iran. Qatar and other oil states have already begun distancing themselves from Israel and returning to the embrace of a regime that has already proven it is not afraid to fire missiles at their capitals. Such a move would prove that Iran can stand up to the US and even receive billions that will save its economy, while further arming its military so it can continue to terrorize the entire region.

At the time of writing, it is not known whether an agreement will be signed. What is clear is that President Trump examined the agreement brought by the mediators and understood that it was Munich 2.0. If Trump succeeds in adding the removal of the nuclear program, as he has declared, it will be a Churchillian step, even if not a real victory.

It seems to me that Israel's citizens are united in their anxiety over the agreement and in their hope that the most beloved president here of all time will act according to his own legacy and succeed in blocking the Iranian danger, about which he has courageously warned from every platform.

We all know and understand President Trump's constraints, but our existential interest obligates us to confront, by ourselves or together with the US, the threat posed by Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas.

The Israeli interest requires strikes against Iran's proxies wherever they are and stopping the Iranian nuclear program. Even before elections. On this issue, there is not and must not be any political consideration, political debate, political interest or political limitation. This is the existential interest of us, our children and our grandchildren. In the agreement

Confirmed — Donald Trump Believes Iran Has The Bomb

4 June 2026 by Larry C. Johnson 234 Comments

No, I have not been given access to NSA Sigint, but I have confirmed that the phone call last week between Iranian President Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shariff was over a non-secure line. I am reliably informed that this was done deliberately by the Iranians and Pakistanis — i.e., the Iranians and Pakistanis were counting on the Americans and the Israelis to be listening in. The key part of the conversation between Pezeshkian and Shariff was this:

President Masoud Pezeshkian communicated a formally structured, three-step strategic ultimatum if US strikes continued:

1. Immediate Withdrawal from the ongoing nuclear peace talks.
2. Total Abandonment of the prospective Nuclear Treaty framework.
3. The Detonation of a Nuclear Device on Iranian soil—executed not as a weapon of war, but as an undeniable demonstration of sovereign capability and ultimate control over the escalation ladder.

When Marco Rubio was called an hour or so later by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, and received the same message, the White House knew that the information was legitimate. While the US intelligence community probably cannot confirm that Iran actually does have a functioning nuke, the Pakistanis believe the Iranians do. The intercepted chat between Pezeshkian and Shariff, followed by Rubio’s conversation with Ishaq Dar, convinced Trump and his advisors that Iran was not making a hollow threat.

Now we know why there has been a dramatic change in Trump’s rhetoric towards Iran… Hell, he downplayed yesterday’s missile dust up in the Persian Gulf, which left Kuwait’s International Airport on fire from an errant PAC3 Patriot missile.

Pepe and I caught some hell from skeptics after we reported on the Pakistani claim that Iran was threatening to detonate a nuclear device on Iranian soil if the US continued its strikes and did not rein in Israel’s attacks on Beirut. But we ain’t the ones eating crow or wiping egg off of our faces. Robert Barnes, a former Trump lawyer, during a Wednesday podcast with Mario Nawfal said that he confirmed with a Trump White House source that our information is correct.

Pakistan continues to play the central role in the negotiations between Tehran and Washington and wants to bring Donald Trump to Islamabad for a meeting with Iran’s President Pezeshkian, where a peace deal ending the war with Iran would be signed. If that happens the internet might implode. Pakistan is not doing this on its own… It has the full backing of China and Russia, with China taking the lead.

There are still some obstacles that Pakistan must overcome if it wants to get Trump and Pezeshkian to the negotiating table… The biggest being Israel. Will Trump compel Israel to retreat from Lebanon? Although the White House announced with much fanfare today that Lebanon and Israel have reached a peace agreement, the details released are unacceptable to Hezbollah. Hezbollah is not going to stop firing into northern Israel until the IDF withdraws from southern Lebanon. The Lebanese/Israeli agreement reportedly stipulates that Hezbollah cannot have any forces south of the Litani River… Like I wrote above, that is a non-starter and deal breaker for Hezbollah.

If the Lebanese situation is settled, than I think it is highly likely that Trump can get a dea

Oil industry warns Trump administration of price spikes within weeks

Industry executives said the loss of oil through the Strait of Hormuz is draining petroleum inventories to dangerously low levels.

By Ben Lefebvre and James Bikales | 06/04/2026 07:28 AM EDT

https://www.politico.com/news/2026/06/04/oil-price-spike-white-house-h
ormuz-00949435

Many market analysts have expressed surprise that oil prices have not reached even higher levels because of the three-month shipping disruption. Early in the conflict, some forecasters predicted prices would go as high as $200 a barrel given that 20 percent of global oil flows through Hormuz. Iran’s attacks on ships in Hormuz has slowed that flow to a trickle, although some crude is being diverted out of the region using pipelines.

“What’s been remarkable is that prices have not moved higher so far, and a big reason for that is the inventory cushion around the world,” said Jim Burkhard, vice president and global head of crude oil research at S&P Global Energy. “But that can’t go on forever.”

The stoppage has caused other impacts in the U.S. markets: Not only have global crude prices gone up as supply from the Middle East dries up, but countries are also increasingly buying American oil and fuel to make up for the loss.

Gasoline stocks are 5 percent lower than the five-year average, and diesel and jet fuel are 3 percent under that mark, according to EIA data. Overall, total U.S. commercial petroleum inventories — including crude oil and finished fuel — are down 52 million barrels from when the war began.

The U.S. SPR release is part of a 400-million barrel effort by members of the International Energy Agency to prevent prices from skyrocketing.

Even with those barrels coming into the market, global petroleum inventories have been falling by roughly 5.8 million barrels a day since the war began, according to Burkhard.

Worldwide stocks now hold around 7.5 billion barrels — a decline of about 500 million barrels from the start of the war. But most of that oil already has buyers and is not being held in reserve, Burkhard said, and inventories in some regions may be hitting or soon to hit operational minimums, he said.

“I’ve never seen inventory numbers fall so much so quickly,” he said. “It is stunning.”

The oil markets have been sensitive to comments from President Donald Trump and retreated last week after he said that a peace deal with Tehran was near that would return shipping traffic to prewar levels. But his remarks Wednesday that the U.S. blockade of the Hormuz could last until Labor Day have raised questions about whether oil tanker traffic out of the Middle East will approach anything near normal levels this summer.

Drained storage tanks are an “iceberg under the water,” Helima Croft, global head of commodity strategy at RBC Capital Markets, said during a Council on Foreign Relations event Wednesday.

“You may not see immediately on the horizon the actual economic challenges that will be coming, because you look at the flat price and you say, ‘OK, we can muddle through this and Iran will come to terms eventually,’” Croft said. “But if we get in a situation where we have this strait effectively closed, or the strait status quo, and we’re sitting in September or October, then you’re going to be looking at industrial shortages.”

Carlos Anchondo and Hannah Northey contributed to this report.

Welcome to the Postmodern Presidency -> How to Wage a Postmodern War

By Damon Linker | Jun 03, 2026

https://www.persuasion.community/p/welcome-to-the-postmodern-presidenc
y

If it was anything, postmodernism was an expression of skepticism about the capacity of reason to forge genuine consensus, let alone for it to achieve objective truth or knowledge. What other thinkers call “objective truth” and “objective knowledge” are merely expressions of the interest of one person or group, according to the theory of Postmodernism. There is no such thing as disinterested reason, just various forms of self-interested rationalization. The claim that one possesses truth or knowledge is nothing but a power move.

There is no better distillation of this view than Donald Trump. All the way back to The Art of the Deal, he has spoken of truth as a tool for manipulation. Rather than determining what is true and then deciding what to do on that basis, Trump takes the reverse approach, first determining what he wants to do, and then adjusting what he claims to be true in order to help him accomplish it. This is why he is the first truly postmodern president.

There are a multitude of examples of this from the first and second Trump administrations, but none is more powerful than the way the Iran War has been conducted.

How to Wage a Postmodern War

When Trump ran for the presidency in 2024, he promised to end America’s “forever wars” and vowed not to start new ones. Yet he has kept the military quite active since returning to the White House, and nowhere more so than against Iran. When he opted to leap to the side of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in seeking to topple the Iranian government and eliminate its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, Trump offered no coherent explanation. He made no effort to build support in public opinion or Congress. He merely acted, as if reasoning about going to war was irrelevant and persuasion both futile and unnecessary.

He then articulated no clear or consistent goals after it became apparent that the country hadn’t undergone regime change, and the constantly shifting rationales he trotted out on his Truth Social account, together with those expressed by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, made it impossible to judge the progress, success, or failure of the operation. That sense of arbitrariness and chaos has only deepened as it’s become clearer that Trump is eager to bring the war to any kind of conclusion (it doesn’t matter what) and to move on while declaring victory.

Just after the conclusion in 1991 of the Persian Gulf War, the postmodern theorist Jean Baudrillard famously published a short book that was provocatively titled The Gulf War Did Not Take Place. I’ve always considered his argument transparently ridiculous. Of course the war took place, just as the Iran War is taking place right now, despite a fragile ceasefire.

Yet what Baudrillard was pointing to back in 1991—the transformation of war into a media event broadcast to the world in eye-catching snippets that turn it into a carefully curated spectacle—really was something new at the time. But now it no longer is. We have entered the age of fully postmodern propaganda in which the powers that be don’t even bother to construct a coherent narrative to generate support for what they do. They merely act and then bombard us with shards of multiple competing and contradictory rationales, assuming we’ll be so entertained by explosions and infliction of pain that we’ll be indifferent to what’s actually transpiring—and, above all, to the fact that the White House has embraced a mode of governance that’s completely indistinguishable from tribalistic partisan spin.

I don’t know about you, but I’d be hard-pressed to come up with a more perfect example of postmodern politics than that.

Who Wants A Deal?

Trump is Desperate For One (As Last Night Showed), Is Putin Joining Him?

Phillips P. OBrien
Jun 08, 2026

https://phillipspobrien.substack.com/p/who-wants-a-deal

Both Trump And Putin Have Reasons To Be Rather Worried—They Have Both Weakened Their Countries Greatly

This is an update, as two interesting/important realities were revealed yesterday about the state of the US-Iran War and the Russo-Ukraine War—specifically about the state of negotiations going on for a “deal” on each. They were revealing enough that they warrant a short piece, as there is so much speculation about what is happening. In a nutshell, it appears that both Trump and potentially Putin are reaching out for deals from weakened positions.

Israel Defies A Desperate Trump

For the US, the signs of decline mentioned last Wednesday were confirmed in spades on June 7.

Trump has placed the US in a position where he desperately wants to end a war he started, yet Washington's ability to influence external actors is waning substantially by the day:

Trump calls on Israel and Iran to "immediately stop shooting" as ceasefire frays

https://www.axios.com/2026/06/08/iran-israel-war-trump-stop-shooting

The war between Israel and Iran resumed on Sunday after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defied Trump's request to stand down. Israel struck Tehran and other cities after Iran launched missiles toward Israel.

The exchanges on Sunday night and Monday morning are the most significant escalation since the April 8 ceasefire. They are threatening to unravel the negotiations between the Trump administration and Iran and draw the U.S. back into the war.

I still hope Iran puts Israel over a slow fire.

Iran says it will no longer wait for threats, declaring new strategic regional defense doctrine, so says Sadeq Larijani. Larijani is a prominent Iranian Shia cleric, conservative politician, and senior regime figure. He is best known for serving as Chief Justice (Head of the Judiciary) of Iran from 2009 to 2019 and as Chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council since late 2018. His now deceased brother, Ali Larijani, was the Speaker of the Parliament and National Security advisor to the Ayatollah before he was killed by Israel. The Larijanis are clerical and political royalty in Iran.

As the current head of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, chairman Larijani announced that Tehran’s intervention in support of Lebanon constitutes a formal declaration of a new strategic doctrine. Under the terms of this doctrine, attacks on any component of the Resistance Axis (Hezbollah and the Palestinians) will trigger an Iranian response that extends beyond geographical boundaries and reshapes regional equations.

Larijani explained that Iran has entered a new phase in which it no longer waits for threats to emerge before acting to preserve its regional position, but instead will take the initiative. He also warned that any expansion of the conflict or attack on critical Iranian infrastructure would be met with a comprehensive and deterrent response.

• To set the stage, Israel/Netanyahu does not want a deal with Iran now and would like the fighting to continue and in particular is engaged in a war in Lebanon against Hezbollah.

• Iran is determined to protect Hezbollah (and all of its proxies) in the region and has been holding a hard line on this position with Trump, which has been driving Trump a little nuts.

• Iran yesterday, in a show of its stance, attacked Israel proper (the Ramat David base) to show its willingness to protect Hezbollah

• Trump, desperate, called Netanyahu and tried to order him not to retaliate by attacking Iran. He even told a reporter that, saying: “I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate.”`

• This phone call came after Trump had boasted to another reporter that Netanyahu would have “no choice” but to take a deal with Iran than he, Trump, would tell him to take.

• The Israelis/Netanyahu, demonstrating to the world the extent of US decline, did exactly what Trump ordered them not to do and launched extensive attacks against Iran. Reports are that the Israelis attacked a range of targets in Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz and Tehran.

• Having been humiliated (again), Trump said it was all no big deal. Trump’s exact wording was: “Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike and Iran had its strike. We don't need another one. I don't want to see an additional attack tonight.”

In summary, since Israel and Iran both thumbed their noses at Trump this weekend, the following has happened.

1. Trump said everything was going well and a deal with Iran could be reached very soon, maybe a day or two.

2. It seems possible/probable that the US had to pay Iran off to the tune of $3 billion to stop its attacks on Israel

3. Iranian forces shot down a US Apache helicopter anyway.

4. Trump tried to pretend it was no big deal

5. Trump, in the end, authorized a very limited response, which he called “proportional”.

6. Iran responds to the US retaliation by attacking Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan—all US partners.

7. JD Vance admits a deal is much further off than Trump is saying.

8. Israel is saying it might continue the war regardless of whether Trump agrees to a deal with Iran.

These are rather shocking two days. It leaves us with the question with which I started this out: “How Low Can The US Go?”. We probably have not reached the bottom yet.

It did not work, so Trump will slowly kill thousands of Iranian civilians by bombing their water supply:

War Crimes Seem To Be Official US Policy Now
We Will Rue The Day
Phillips P. OBrien
Jun 11, 2026

https://phillipspobrien.substack.com/p/war-crimes-seem-to-be-official-
us

(skipping over the paragraphs detailing exactly what was destroyed by Trump)

Why Was It Committed?

What makes this even more perverse is that this war crime was deliberately committed because Donald Trump is getting frustrated that the Iranian government is not doing what he wants them to do and that the Iranian military attacked a legitimate military target, a US Apache helicopter that was enforcing a blockade (an act of war, remember) against Iran.

These reasons are not being hidden, indeed the White House basically laid them out to Axios in a detailed story. Here was how that story started:

The trigger for President Trump's strikes on Iran was the downing of a U.S. helicopter, but behind the scenes, Trump had been growing more and more frustrated over nearly two weeks of waiting for an Iranian response to his latest offer that still has not arrived.

This is typical, Trump,/organized crime style behavior. He attacks a small civilian facility as a threat and warning to Iran that he might go on and commit even greater war crimes if they do not do what he wants. As if on cue, a few hours after these attacks, while speaking to Fox News reporters, Trump went ahead and said he might start mass attacks on Iran’s bridges and electricity power generation. He also tweeted out that if Iran did not do what he wants it to do, that it would have to “pay the price” of their defiance.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Iran's Military is a complete and total mess. Much of it, like their Navy and Air Force, doesn't even exist anymore - They have been completely defeated. Iran is all talk and no action. The Bully of the Middle East is DEAD!!! They've taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP

So it is a historic war crime committed because the President of the USA can think of nothing better to do.

What Will The Impact Be?

It will almost certainly not get Iran to bend the knee. Trump can boast all he wants, as he did above, about the Iranian military being destroyed, but the reality is that he is still very worried about Iranian capacity. How do we know that? Well many of the US strikes against Iran were done on June 9 and then again last night with (fast depleting) stocks of Tomahawk missiles or by aircraft that can fire at safe distances. CNN is stating that preliminary reports from last night were that at least 49 Tomahawks were fired.

In other words, Trump is rapidly running down US stocks in these attacks—they are not sustainable.

So unless Trump actually goes for massive escalation, this is just more of what went on before, with a shorter window for action and more degradation of US strength. It is unlikely to force Iran to back down; more than likely, it leads to a hardening of their position.

And, btw, it further leaves China in strategic control of the Western Pacific as it weakens the USA. Pure strategic brilliance.

As for the Iranian people, I am no expert. However the few sources I know of who do have information within Iran are in despair at this kind of war crime. What one wrote was that attacks like this are “pushing Iranians predisposed to the west towards the (IRGC) regime”.

So these are not just strategically stupid and immoral war crimes, they are probably counterproductive.

What Iranian will now say that I really want to side with the USA after they cut off water to 20,000 civilians?

Conclusion

So this very much looks like a d

Oil executives warn White House that gas prices will get worse

June 11, 2026

https://attentiontotheunseen.com/2026/06/11/oil-executives-warn-white-
house-that-gas-prices-will-get-worse
/

The Washington Post reports:

Oil and gas executives have warned the White House that gasoline prices could surge in the coming months as fuel inventories fall to critical lows, complicating the Trump administration’s efforts to contain inflation that has already rattled American consumers.

Industry officials say they are doing everything they can to sound an alarm that prices are about to soar as the commercial and government inventories that have mitigated price rises so far are rapidly depleting, according to multiple people familiar with the conversations, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation from the administration. Some inventories could be wiped out within weeks, the executives have warned, coinciding with the peak summer travel season.

“I have absolutely no doubt the White House — from the president on down — is fully aware of the nearly universal alarm among oil companies and analysts about the direction of travel for oil prices this summer,” said Bob McNally, who was an energy adviser in the George W. Bush administration and founded the research firm Rapidan Energy Group.

The warnings underscore the rising political and economic risks confronting President Donald Trump as the conflict with Iran drags into its fourth month, with little indication that a diplomatic breakthrough is imminent, despite periodic White House predictions of progress.

Already Trump’s administration is confronting the highest rate of inflation in three years, which has led to a significant drop in his standing among voters and deepened concern among Republicans about widespread losses in the midterm elections, which could cause them to lose control of one or both houses of Congress.

The Labor Department’s consumer price index rose at a 4.2 percent annual pace in the year ending in May, driven by surging gas prices.

Trump has publicly brushed off concerns about the rising prices. “I love it. I love the inflation,” Trump told reporters Wednesday when asked about the new figures. Oil prices will drop “like a rock” once the war concludes, he said.

Industry executives suggest otherwise.

The war with Iran has snarled the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway that transported about one-fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas supplies before the war. Trump has repeatedly sought to assure the public that he is close to a deal to reopen the strait, but that has not happened.

Senior oil executives who typically avoid making alarming projections in public have been doing exactly that.

“We’re sounding the alarm on these inventories going to record lows,” said American Petroleum Institute CEO Mike Sommers on “Mornings with Maria,” a Fox Business program that Trump frequently watches. “We should be concerned about what prices we’re going to see over the next few weeks. We have to solve this problem in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Industry officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid antagonizing the White House, said the administration’s reception to their worries has been mixed. Some officials, they say, are taking the posture that the warnings are hollow. Prices have not shot up toward $200 a barrel, despite warnings since the war against Iran started in late February that they would quickly head there.

The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve has dropped to 349.2 million barrels, approaching a multi-decade low last seen in 1983. The exact date reserves start to run dry can be difficult to calculate, because they cannot be run all the way down.

Millions of barrels of oil need to remain in pipelines and refineries to keep the systems from breaking down. Analysts and industry executives warn the critical moment could come anywhere from the end of this month to closer to the end of summer. But they are univ

Did US sneak 100 million barrels of oil out of Hormuz, as Trump claims?

The maths doesn’t appear to hold up, even though the US has likely managed to get some oil out of the strait during the blockade.

In his social media post, the president claimed the military pushed out 100 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz. There is no evidence so far that the volume of traffic passing through the strait during the war is enough to support his claims.

Every Time Trump Has Threatened–and Then Cancelled–Iran Strikes

Jun 12, 2026 at 07:48 AM EDT

• Trump threatened to hit Iran “very hard tonight” on June 11 before cancelling strikes hours later amid reported progress in talks

• Deadlines for military action in 2026, earlier in 2025, and even during Trump's first term in 2019 have repeatedly been extended, paused, or withdrawn at the last minute

This cycle of escalation and retreat has played out multiple times during the current conflict, which was officially triggered on February 28 this year

• Markets and oil prices have reacted quickly to each threat and reversal

Iran has often disputed Trump’s claims that a deal is close, highlighting ongoing gaps in negotiations

Losing This War Is The Best Thing Possible

The USA Needs To Be Humbled

Losing wars is not always a bad thing. Sometimes it can be the best thing possible. The Germans and Japanese governments losing World War II was by far the best thing for the German and Japanese people. Losing these wars discredited German and Japanese leaderships that were murderous and, to a large degree, strategically incompetent. It forced many of their people to come to terms with the behavior of their nations and ushered in new periods with very different policies and expectations. Indeed, defeat led to periods of extraordinary wealth, health and stability for the Japanese and (West) German populations as they focused their minds on economic rebirth and tried to make new societies.

The same could be said about France and the Franco-Prussian War. Defeated by the Prussians, a bitter pill for the French if there ever was one, exposed to the French people the incompetence of the ostentatious and pretentious regime of Napoleon III. Defeat led to the creation of the French Third Republic and ushered in a period of stability and growth which contributed to France being on the victorious side of World War I.

Losing this war with Iran, which the USA is on the cusp of doing, might join this list.

Btw, if you want to read a very engaging academic book on the subject of Japanese and German rebuilding and success after losing World War II, you should take a look at: Raymond G. Stokes, Ruins to Riches: The Economic Resurgence of Germany and Japan after 1945, Cambridge University Press, 2024.

U.S. and Iran announce a deal to end the war, reopen Strait of Hormuz

. . . the memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran did not resolve several critical issues that must still be worked out in another round of negotiations.

The fate of Iran's nuclear program will be negotiated, but remains unresolved for now. Trump made no mention of the nuclear issue in his initial posts, though this is the main reason he cited for launching the war in February.

In an interview with The New York Times, Trump said Iran would be permitted low-level nuclear enrichment. In the past, he has repeatedly called for the dismantling of Iran's entire nuclear program.

The peace deal with Tehran is an Iranian victory.

By Tom Nichols | June 14, 2026, 9:32 PM ET

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/06/trump-iran-deal/687547/

President Trump has announced that the United States and Iran have reached a deal to end their war. “Congratulations to all!” he said in a posting on his Truth Social site this evening. He then headed off to oversee the garish public spectacle he’d arranged for his birthday on the South Lawn of the White House. The United States, however, has little to celebrate: Trump and his team, in record time, just lost a war to a militarily mediocre—but nonetheless extremely dangerous—adversary.

The details of the agreement remain unconfirmed, but the president, of course, is eager to spin the outcome as a victory. (Trump was in a hurry to sign the deal on his birthday; the Iranians, who now seem to be in charge of this whole business, instead said they will send someone to a meeting in Switzerland on Friday.) But even before we have the details, it is clear that Trump has failed to achieve every one of the goals he put forward for this war of choice, and now he is determined to sign, seal, and deliver America’s capitulation as quickly as possible.

If defeat seems a strong word, consider what we do know about how this war will end. Iran has suffered significant damage from U.S. and Israeli military action. But as I and others warned at the outset, killing people and bombing things do not by themselves produce victory.

The reality is that the war will close with the regime in Tehran intact and in the grip of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps;

the Strait of Hormuz will remain under the threat of Iranian attacks;

Iran will continue to possess significant drone and missile stocks;

the regime will maintain the capability to be a state sponsor of terror;

and many sanctions will be lifted and billions of dollars in unfrozen assets will flow to Iran.

In other words, the Iranians have achieved their key strategic aims—regime survival above all—while the Americans have achieved none of their own.

Indeed, the United States has perhaps done worse than gaining nothing. Iran, while temporarily weakened, is now an even more powerful political actor: The regime in Tehran stood up to a massive U.S. onslaught, survived, and then inflicted pain on various states in the Gulf as punishment for going along with Trump’s war.

The Israelis, for their part, have been left out in the cold. It is difficult to shed any tears for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who unwisely encouraged Trump to attack Iran, but he, too, is feeling the sting of humiliation. The Iranians cagily linked Netanyahu’s war against Hezbollah in Lebanon to Trump’s war in the Gulf, and Trump is now angry at Netanyahu for making it harder for the United States to get out of the conflict. (When Netanyahu planned major strikes in Beirut at the beginning of June, Trump called him, swore at him, and said, “You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me.”)

Reportedly, the upcoming agreement requires a cessation of hostilities in the region, including in Lebanon—and Trump is negotiating as if he can deliver on that demand while leaving Jerusalem out of it. Today, the Israelis said that Hezbollah had launched weapons into Israel. Rather than calling on the Iranians to restrain their proxy, Trump took to social media to tell the Israelis to calm down, noting that the attack “was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process.”

The Trump administration will claim that it achieved a victory because it got an Iran without nuclear weapons. But this claim is both silly and redundant. Tehran had already pledged 10 years ago in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action not to seek nuclear weapons. No one should trust the Iranians, but before Trump unilaterally canceled the agreement in his first term, the JCPOA seemed to be working. More to the point, at the time Trump chose to go to war, Iran was nowhere nea

Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the agreement was “bad for Israel and for the entire free world. Period.”

Opposition leader Yair Lapid said Netanyahu “lost the war,” and collapsed in the “moment of truth,” adding: “There has never, ever, been a more absolute failure than Netanyahu’s diplomatic failure on the Iranian front.”

“The time has come for us to recognize the fact that Netanyahu simply cannot do it anymore,” Lapid charged, complaining of “an American president openly and publicly telling the prime minister of Israel: ‘I am your boss, and you will do what you are told.'”

“The State of Israel won the battle; Netanyahu lost the war. The Israel Defense Forces fulfilled its missions, Netanyahu failed to deliver the goods,” Lapid told reporters ahead of his Yesh Atid party’s weekly faction meeting.

Longer term, however, I still find it hard to be optimistic about any agreement that might be reached between the US and Iran. The conflict between them isn’t about the Strait of Hormuz, about Iran’s nuclear program, their ballistic missiles or about the rights of “women and girls” in Iran. The conflict is about capturing political control over Iran, their independence, and their estimated $35 trillion in natural resource wealth.

The Iranians will never be allowed to manage their economic affairs independently, set out their own trade terms or formulate their own monetary system. Western system of governance demands colonial submission to Western financial centers. Imagine the optics if some independent nation suddenly demanded to be paid in gold or silver for their export trade. What might other nations with large balances of paper fiat think? That they can just ask for a different settlement mechanism? This can’t be allowed.

Trump desperately needs oil and gas getting thru Hormuz. Iran has unbreakable military and geographic leverage.

So Trump has to reach some kind of agreement with Iran. Iran has a 14-point list they say is the MOU. There are a few flies in the ointment AFA agreement is concerned.

Quote:

nobody in the Trump administration referred to these specific points, let alone affirmed that the US has accepted them as part of the mutually agreed framework for negotiations with the Iranians.

But assuming Trump and Iran are looking at the same list, specifically...

Point #1 is cessation of hostilities in Lebanon. It's foolish for Trump to sign an agreement that includes a third party (Israel) that he can't control and guarantee. This could be very much like Trump's Anchorage agreement with Putin, where Trump apparently told Putin he could bring the EU to heel. He couldn't. Israel can bomb (literally) this deal any time it wants.

Point #6 is suspension of sanctions against Iranian oil and petro products, and Irans full access to its financial resources.

Point #7 is reparations to Iran. It's hard to imagine this ever happening.

The other points seem more doable to me. Iran has already said it won't build a nuclear bomb (altho it may be making arrangements for nuclear cover from Russia, China, N Korea, or Pakistan). It would probably agree to NPT and inspections as long as Iran can control who does the inspections, and not some USA- friendly spy.

The USA can probably agree to leaving the Straits under Iranian control, first of all bc they can't do anything about it, and secondly bc Iran would probably only be charging a nominal fee for transit and simply be looking for USA weapons being shipped in. AFA USA maintaining a military presence in the Gulf, most of our bases are destroyed and evacuated anyway, and all we would have to do is ... nothing. Plus, it's super expensive to deploy carrier groups indefinitely.

Getting Irans assets back to them? UAE gives $$ to Iran, and we "take“ Iranian assets and give them to UAE for "reconstruction“. Problem solved.

TRUMP CELEBRATES ACHIEVING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN IRAN

To end his war on Iran, Trump was forced to return to the status quo with the Strait of Hormuz open and no nuclear deal in place.

By Nick Turse | June 15 2026, 2:41 p.m.

https://theintercept.com/2026/06/15/trump-us-iran-war/

The Trump administration is boasting about pending plans to conclude its war with Iran, having achieved none of the original objectives laid out by President Donald Trump.

With a commitment to a ceasefire and the scheduled signing of a “framework” later this week, Iran is expected to agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days. Negotiations over an agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program are expected to take place in the 60 days following Friday’s signing ceremony.

If the deal is signed on this week, it will mark a return to the status quo antebellum when the Strait of Hormuz was open and no nuclear deal with Iran was in place. Aside from killing top regime leaders, thousands of civilians — including more than 150, most of them children, on a strike on an elementary school — and damaging almost 149,000 civilian infrastructures, the United States has functionally achieved nothing. The same regime is in power and it maintains missile capabilities, still has a navy, and still supports regional proxies.

Trump also teased the prospect of a U.S. protection racket under which Middle Eastern nations would be forced to pay monetary tribute to America if the U.S. and Iran do not finalize a nuclear accord.

On Monday, Iran’s government declared victory and appeared to vow revenge on the U.S. for the war.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday, his 80th birthday. “I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz.” An hour later, Trump offered a caveat, stating the strait would only be opened “upon the signing of the Deal on Friday.”

“This victory was achieved through absolute national cohesion, under the wise guidance of the Supreme National Security Council and all state pillars,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei announced on Monday, claiming that the conflict “cost the aggressors heavily.”

“Moving toward diplomacy does not mean we will ever forgive or forget the crimes against the Iranian nation; the pursuit of justice for our martyrs is permanent,” said Baghaei.

The White House did not reply to a request by The Intercept for comment on Iran’s declaration of victory and apparent vow of revenge for its dead.

The new “deal” is a complete capitulation for Trump who claimed, on March 6: “There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” No such surrender occurred.

Nor is it the first ceasefire Trump has claimed would result in a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

“Iran has now agreed to a ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz,” the White House announced on April 8, essentially the same agreement publicized on Sunday. That original ceasefire collapsed months ago, but the fiction was observed by the administration and mainstream news media outlets alike, until the new agreement was rolled out.

Pakistan says it will oversee a formal signing of a memorandum of understanding on Friday in Geneva, Switzerland. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told the National Assembly session in Islamabad “the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations has been announced across all fronts, including Iran, America, and Lebanon.”

Self-styled War Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed on Sunday that the agreement guarantees “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, won’t seek one, won’t buy one, won’t have one.” Iran previously agreed to those terms when it first ratified the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty in 1970, and reaffirmed that agreement on the first page of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, negotiated by former President Barack Obama’s administration. Trump unilaterally withdrew from that pact during his first term.

Trump indicated Hegseth was lying or uniformed in an

The U.S. Had No Choice but Diplomacy—Yet Again

The new pact between the U.S. and Iran seeks to rewind the clock to the day before the war. ??????

By Nancy A. Youssef, Russell Berman, and Vivian Salama | June 15, 2026, 5:12 PM ET

https://www.theatlantic.com/national-security/2026/06/memorandum-under
standing-deal-might-happen/687554

Declaring that “the deal is all signed” with Iran, as President Trump did today, is like shopping for a wedding dress after a good first date: It’s just too soon.

A deal has an element of finality and permanence. A nuclear deal with Iran, for example, would require specific obligations, concessions, and verification measures, such as inspections, agreed to by all parties. What Iran and the United States are moving toward, with a signing ceremony scheduled for Friday in Geneva, is an agreement that could set the conditions for a potential deal. In the meantime, the war’s shaky cease-fire would be extended for 60 days and commercial shipping would once again transit the Strait of Hormuz unimpeded. (Neither side has released the agreed-upon text, although U.S. officials said today that Trump, Vice President Vance, and the speaker of Iran’s Parliament have already digitally signed on the dotted line.)

If all goes to plan, both sides would then use the breathing room to address more complicated issues, such as how to manage Iran’s nuclear program, just as they were doing before February 28, when Trump went to war. Although the war has weakened Iran’s military, killed members of its leadership, and put pressure on Tehran, the memorandum of understanding is also an acknowledgment that the U.S. cannot solve the problem of Iran with either a war or economic pressure. Despite the thousands of strikes, and the damage done to Iran’s oil-export-driven economy, the U.S. has little choice but to try diplomacy again.

Another mark of how much the U.S. has deviated from its aims at the conflict’s outset is the fate of the Strait of Hormuz. Its centrality to the new memorandum might suggest that Iran’s blockage of the narrow channel was a reason for the U.S. and Israel to go to war in the first place. Not so. The strait was open on the day the war started. Iran closed it, snarling global energy-supply chains, to gain exactly the leverage now being employed at the negotiating table.

By contrast, none of Trump’s initial goals for the conflict has been achieved. The negotiations are designed to address the nuclear program, but it is not clear whether reducing Iran’s missile batteries and its proxy militias will be on the agenda for the 60-day talks, or the additional negotiating increments that will almost certainly follow. “I worry about results, and I worry about getting to a place that is good for the American people,” Vance told us in a brief interview. “Right now, we’re on a pathway to get to a very good place for our country. I want to keep on working towards that end.”

Maybe at the end of that cycle, the U.S. and Iran will have an agreement worth calling a deal.

The results of the war have been muddy enough that hawks on each side want to see a convincing victory and believe that such an outcome might still be within reach.

“The Islamic Republic is not a problem that can be negotiated away,” Mark Dubowitz, the chief executive of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, wrote on X yesterday. He suggested that the United States should support Iranians in overthrowing the regime, something that Trump signaled he favored at the start of the war but has since abandoned. “The only solution is maximum support for the Iranian people,” Dubowitz continued. “Given the opportunity and assistance they need, they can cripple—and ultimately end—this terrorist regime.”

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a Trump ally who strongly supported military action, suggested on X that the U.S. is giving up too much too quickly just to secure the strait’s reopening, even though its closure has sent energy prices soaring.

Graham, who rarely criticizes the president directly, said that he

Trump’s Iran "memorandum of understanding" bamboozle

Joel Eissenberg | June 16, 2026 5:37 am

https://angrybearblog.com/2026/06/trumps-iran-mou-bamboozle

For all his boasting about winning and a deal with Iran, all Trump has is a memorandum of understanding. It apparently includes a 60-day period when Iran won’t collect tolls in the strait, a cessation of attacks by the US and some inchoate future discussion on buried uranium. And the CIA director has cast public doubt on Iran’s willingness to make concessions on nuclear programs. Josh Marshall thinks Administration hawks are undermining Trump’s exit plan.

“If you go to war to achieve a specific end you don’t end the war before negotiating over that specific end. (The US has many declared ends in its war with Iran – proxies, missiles, etc. – but the nuclear program was always the most central.) You come to an agreement when [your] hand is strongest. The whole point of pushing the negotiation over nuclear weapons to after the conflict but making it seem like an agreement is somehow contained within the ceasefire isn’t a matter of really poor negotiating skills. It’s a ruse that both sides – Iran and the Trump White House – are tacitly cooperating on to give Trump an out to walk away from the war without achieving any of his war aims. In other words, this isn’t Iran outwitting him. (Or they’re not outwitting his negotiators at least.) It’s Trump and Iran agreeing to bamboozle the American people (or at least Trump’s supporters) so he can avoid reckoning with the psychic reality of his defeat and the electoral repercussions of taking the country to war with close to no public support and then screwing it up royally on top of that.

“For what it’s worth, there’s still a non-trivial chance this will fall apart. But Trump’s hawks know what they’re doing pushing his failure to the foreground. It may create too much psychic strain, at which point he’ll sabotage the deal.”

At least the bombing in Iran and the gulf has apparently stopped. If a phony MOU is the price for that, it seems a good thing.

Admin Hawks Are Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud … to Axios
By Josh Marshall

A very odd nugget from Barak Ravid of Axios. Here’s the key passage in the lede …

CIA Director John Ratcliffe told President Trump and other senior officials that intelligence gathered by U.S. intelligence agencies raised serious doubts about Iran’s willingness to make the nuclear concessions the U.S. is seeking in any final deal, according to three sources familiar with those discussions.

The way the line reads, you kind of get the idea that Iran isn’t playing straight with the U.S. or won’t follow through on its commitments. But look what it actually says. The CIA doesn’t think Iran’s leaders are willing to make the concessions the U.S. is demanding in a negotiation that hasn’t taken place yet. I think the proper response to this is … well, probably not. That’s why they haven’t agreed to it already in the almost four months they’ve been negotiating with the U.S. If they were willing to do that, they likely would have agreed to it since it could have stopped the war at almost any time and they haven’t.

It’s true that there are cases where a party may be unwilling to agree to a condition under duress (with bombs falling) that it might be willing to not under an active threat. But this is actually something unique to the Trumpist moment, where one side in an administration dispute is going public with the information that puts the lie to the president’s ruse.

If you go to war to achieve a specific end, you don’t end the war before negotiating over that specific end. (The U.S. has many declared ends in its war with Iran — proxies, missiles, etc. — but the nuclear program was always the most central.) You come to an agreement when your hand is strongest. The whole point of pushing the negotiation over nuclear weapons to after the conflict but making it seem like an agreement is somehow contained within the ceasefire isn’t a matter of really poor negotiating skills. It’s a ruse that both sides — Iran and the Trump White House — are tacitly cooperating on to give Trump an out to walk away from the war without achieving any of his war aims. In other words, this isn’t Iran outwitting him. (Or they’re not outwitting his negotiators, at least.) For what it’s worth, there’s still a non-trivial chance this will fall apart. But Trump’s hawks know what they’re doing pushing his failure to the foreground. It may create too much psychic strain, at which point he’ll sabotage the deal.

Bottom line is, they're saying the exact opposite of what the Trump Administration says. And Trump is still going to have to fall a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way down before people start believing George Soros funded faggots like Nick over at The Intercept.

Trump Does Not Understand the War He Lost

The president’s comments at the G7 summit revealed that he doesn’t understand the war he started—or the words that come out of his own mouth.

Donald Trump arrived in France yesterday for this morning’s G7 summit and promptly confirmed America’s capitulation to Iran. Instead of merely repeating the outlines of what looks to be a terrible peace deal, however, Trump made a series of statements so bizarre, even by his usual standards, that they raise the question of whether the president still understands the words that come out of his own mouth.

The president began with a classic Trumpian move, daring his listeners to forget today what they knew yesterday. Just this winter, Trump had promised the Iranian people that the tyrants who ruled them would be gone. But now? “I never cared about regime change,” he told reporters, waving away his failure to achieve a primary strategic goal by denying that it had ever been a goal at all.

Things got a little weirder, however, when he described the Iranians who have stepped in to replace the regime leaders killed in U.S. strikes: “We’re dealing with people that I think are very rational people. And they were nice to deal with.”

“They were strong people, smart people,” he added. And then he dropped this remarkable claim: “They’re not radicalized, and they’re, you know, looking to help their country.”

This definitely not-radicalized group that Trump seems to like includes the new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei (whose father, wife, and son were killed by U.S. strikes), and the still-standing Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, all of whom have shown no compunction about lashing out in any direction during Trump’s “cease-fire,” the make-believe pause in the war during which no one actually ceased firing.

Trump’s description of the current regime in Tehran as a bunch of swell guys was brewed in a heavy-duty vat of wishful thinking. It’s an extreme version of Trump’s tendency, when he’s been outplayed by powerful enemies, to describe his opponents as basically reasonable people. (He has done the same over the years with dictators and autocrats in North Korea, Russia, and China, among other countries.) This is his way of assuring the public that he did not get taken to the cleaners—because, of course, his affable partners would never do that.

Trump fared no better talking about the Iranian nuclear program. Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium exists largely because Trump unilaterally called off U.S. participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the 2015 agreement that was meant to prevent Iran from enriching uranium beyond minimal levels for civilian uses. After the U.S. and Israeli attacks last year, and yet more pounding during Operation Epic Fury, that uranium remains underground, either hidden in storage or buried beneath tons of rubble; some of it can likely be recovered and enriched for military uses. Trump has said, repeatedly, that Iran must hand it over.

Until today.

“I call it the nuclear dust, their enriched material, right?” Trump said. (Why he calls it this remains a mystery.) Does America still insist on its removal from Iran? Well, maybe.

“The whole mountain has collapsed on top. We have cameras on it,” Trump said. “You could make the case ‘Why are you even bothering?’ ’cause it’s not really valuable. It’s, you know, it’s probably half a million dollars’ worth. It’s not very valuable stuff, but I think psychologically we wanna get it.”

The United States and Israel ostensibly went to war with Iran last summer over the prospect of the Tehran regime developing a bomb, and that same threat has supposedly been at the center of America’s largest military operation in decades—but now the highly enriched uranium isn’t very valuable? The president wants it for “psychological”

The US has signed up to a deal which puts it in a far worse strategic position than it was in on February 27, 2026 (the day before the bombing started). It is not returning to the status quo ante: it is creating an entirely new, and much weaker, status quo (for the USA).

The USA is pledging to respect the Iranian regime, immediately restore some funding to it, immediately allow the Iranian regime to start trading oil freely, and not to interfere with its present nuclear capabilities. Moreover, the USA is tacitly recognizing that Iran will control shipping in the Strait (with Oman) going forward and has not ruled out the ability of Iran and Oman to charge tolls after 60 days.

In the near future, the US is pledging to help organize a massive reparations program for Iran, to pull back American forces from the vicinity of Iran, to end all sanctions on Iran, and to pledge its commitment to all of this with a UN Security Council Resolution.

And what has the US gotten in return?

Well, it has gotten a temporary reopening of the Strait of Hormuz (under significantly worse conditions than existed on February 27, 2026) and a restatement of a nuclear pledge that Iran has made for years and years.

It is hard to grasp just how humiliating this is for the USA (and Israel). They chose to start this war after great preparation, they used their most advanced technology, and they used up massive military stocks in bombing Iran for six weeks.

And they are in a much worse situation.

Key MOU Clauses And Commentary

1 — The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran and their allies in the current war are signing this MOU to declare the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and undertake from now on not to initiate any war or any military operation against each other, and to refrain from the threat or use of force against each other, and ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon. The final deal will confirm the permanent termination of the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon and other provisions of this paragraph.

Commentary: The key thing here is that the US has made it perfectly clear that it expects Israel to end its war in Lebanon, and therefore that the US wants attacks on Hezbollah to stop. This was a major Iranian goal and they have achieved it. It is important to see that ending the fighting in Lebanon as a US commitment is made twice here.

2 — The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran undertake to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to refrain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs.

Commentary: Regime change is now permanently out as a US policy. The US is now pledged to respect the internal power of the IRGC. Remember, when the bombing started, regime change was a key victory condition for Trump.

4 — Immediately upon the signing of this MOU, the United States of America will begin the removal of its naval blockade and any disturbances or impediments against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and will fully end the naval blockade within 30 days. During this period, the traffic of vessels will be in proportion to the numbers of pre-war traffic being restored by the Islamic Republic of Iran. The United States of America further undertakes to remove its forces from the proximity of the Islamic Republic of Iran within 30 days after the final deal.

Commentary: The last sentence is extraordinary. This seems to pledge the USA to remove its forces from near Iran after the deal. “Proximity” is not defined, but that would have to take in a number of close US partners in the Gulf. The US is now allowing Iran to have a major say in where US forces can be deployed.

5 — Upon the signing of this MOU, the Islamic Republic of Iran will make arrangements using its best efforts for the safe passage of commercial vessels with no charge, for 60 days only, from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versa. The traffic of commercial vessels will immediately start, and considering the need for removing the technical and military obstacles, and demining by the Islamic Republic of Iran will be instated within 30 days. The Islamic Republic of Iran will conduct dialog with the Sultanate of Oman to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz in discussion with other Persian Gulf littoral states in line with the applicable international law and the sovereign rights of coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz.

Commentary: Iran pledges not to “charge” shipping in the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days (though it is worth noting that Iran said yesterday that they might still levy “fees”. The important thing is that Iran is clearly saying that with Oman it can determine the future of traffic in the strait and Iran has in no way given up its ability to change tolls. This represents a major Iranian increase in authority.

6 — The United States of America undertakes with regional partners to develop a definitive, mutually agreed plan with at least USD 300 billion for the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The mechanism for the implementation of this plan will be finalized as part of a final deal within 60 days. All required licenses, waivers and permissions needed for the relevant financial transactions will be granted by the United States of America.

Commentary: Do you know what this is? It is the US promising to “undertake” organizing a plan for reparations to pa

Nah.

I'll see the plan as it's finished, if it actually happens, when it happens and we all get to see it. I don't need to see anything that Bloomberg claims is real. Especially when you know as well as I do that somebody like Trump might be feeding bad intel out there just to help the media look like a bunch of dumb, ideologically captivated assholes that we already know they are.

What's the point about seeing it until it's done? Not a good goddamned thing that you're going to do about it anyway except for bitch and moan.

Oh... nevermind. There's your fucking answer.

How about you and Ted shut your fucking mouths, and only post shit here after it happened?

Then you won't look like a couple of stupid assholes every day.

Why would I do that?

Since in the nearly 10 sober years that I have known you, you have never once called out Joe Biden* or a single Democratic Party politician or left-leaning media figure on any single topic that they've ever spoken or written about, the fact that I've called out Trump and his administration at least a dozen times since his election would just be an Undefined Operation when held up against your never-wavering, dogmatic adherence to whatever they tell you to think on any given day.

Pure Division or Multiplication by ABSOLUTE Zero.

THAT is what we are talking about here. Period. End of sentence.

Look in the mirror, quarter-wit.

You're a fucking cultist goon.

Everything you've ever accused your betters of are all things that you yourself were guilty of all along.

Deep down you know that I'm right and it just eats away at you a little more everyday... that knowledge that in those rare, fleeting moments where you're brutally honest with yourself about who you really, truly are...

The knowledge that you are nothing more than a hypocrite all the way down to your deep and very dark core.

That's why they call it cognitive dissonance.

You're so adrift at sea and lost without an anchor that there's never going to be any saving you.

You're stuck with this always-miserable little prick that you've allowed them to turn you into for the rest of your short life.

Congratulations to you, Second. You will one day die The Good Guy who never drank and never did drugs and never smoked and always voted Democrat and always took the moral high ground, except for every single fucking second that you thought nobody was watching you.

And you've earned everything that you've got coming to you.

Your end will be sad, and it will be very, very lonely.

But they didn't leave you... did they?

No...

That's why your brutal self-honesty comes out to play so infrequently, isn't it?

You pushed them all out. YOU were the one who put all of that distance between yourself and the ones who used to love you. You put your impossible standards on all of them and only after they finally broke under all that weight did they finally learn to run away from you. Then and only then did they finally find the strength to leave you far behind.
