Notes: I’ve been hoarding this one for quite a while, hoping to write a fanfic that it could be part of. Since that prospect doesn’t look terribly likely in the near future, I thought I’d share. I’m still holding out hope, though.

Behold

By AgentOmega

Behold the honorable thief, Who loves a goddess manifest, He holds her close in dreams each night, And though he sleeps he finds no rest.
Behold the goddess manifest, Who loves an honorable thief, She feels his touch in dreams each night, And though she sleeps finds no relief.
Behold the common longing felt, They each desire their mating soul, Together both would be complete, Apart neither is truly whole.
Behold a junction in their lives, Beyond which there is no return, One path will part them evermore, One leads to that for which they yearn.
Behold the goddess and the thief, Their spirits now are intertwined, Their hearts united come what may, They meet the future undefined.

Absolutely beautiful and completely spot on for Mal and Inara ... I like poetry (not love, like), but I cannot write it myself ... or at least without it sounding like rejected lyrics for an angry Alanis Morisette song ... so I greatly appreciate the beauty of it when written by a master - and that's what this!

Awww, you big ol' softie you.

This was great, it was incredibly smartly written and pin-point accurate on the characterising of each...er, character.

Can I have this poem too?

Strange how the title "Behold" just captured my attention and curiousity. So I clicked the link and I was like "what? a poem?" but I wanted to know what was so important to behold.

The words hold timeless strength, as if this relationship is being held as a lesson for all to see, and every man and woman can learn from what they behold. It seems that a fic to flow along with this would be in the style of a wise, old story teller, looking back on the days when he/she flew with Mal and Inara and witnessed this odessey of love, sharing the lessons learned, the trials faced, and how love prevailed over all.

So in case that didn't say enough, I really, really liked it.

Utterly brilliant, breathtaking and belissimo, AgentOmega! This poem is powerful, but simple in its construction and imagery...nothing complex or over detailed. Just "natural" verses and heartfelt ideas;D
