Wanna bet? Since this happened at a GAY nightclub they'll probably call it a homophobic attack. And somehow Trump will be blamed as well.

It is a homophobic attack, ISIS hates homosexuals, but anyone who tries to blame Trump for this will look like fools.

Law enforcement sources told CBS News the gunman has been identified as Omar Mateen, a U.S. citizen from Port St. Lucie. Mateen was born to Afghan parents in 1986.
Motive is a slippery topic. It could just as easily have been motivated by a fanatical right-wing Xtian, or a simple homophobe.
But while motives may take a while to deduce, the mode is obvious. The definition of terrorism is to terrorize a civilian population for a political end.

You can't build a nation with bombs. You can't create a society with guns.

During 2014, a total of 136,000 Americans died from accidental causes, an increase of 4.2 percent over the previous year.
"Every individual has the opportunity to make choices to keep themselves safe. It's all preventable. Every accident is preventable, but it's not necessarily the [fault] of the victim," Ken Kolosh, director of the (NSC) said.

It could happen: Trump calling for gun-control and program to reduce accidental deaths. Not likely to happen.

The shooter was an American citizen and a homophobe.
Assault Weapon + Zealot = Mass Shooting
Assault Weapon + Homophobe = Mass Shooting
Assault Weapon + Mental Illness = Mass Shooting
I think we're starting to see the common element to mass shootings.

Also reports of the radical Islamic guy having explosives, Islamist Gunman, Omar Mateen Sediqqi, suspected of killing 50 people has 'some connection to ISIS' the radical Muslim attack was said to wear a suicide bomber vest. ABC, Fox, CNN, France 24 all saying terrorism BBC News interviewed the terrorists father, who said it wasn't about Islam, he just hated gays, those people....I don't hate....its the religion of peace...just hate infidels and homosexuals just like Mohammed and Islam. Can't talk about homophobia of Islam, or call out suicide bombers you might appear as racist. Local cops confirm possible radical muslim attack, the FBI just called it domestic terror.

Now we wait for evidence to see what's really going on. Because the Tsarnaev brothers, and the married couple Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik were initially claimed to be foreign terrorists. Instead, they were all SELF-RADICALIZED and didn't have active connections to terrorist organizations. It's possible the same is true here. In which case it's just about another US home-grown nutcase able to get weapons in the US to act out his nuttery.
Let me just point out that the author left out vital relevant facts in the opinion piece. Doing that is known as cherry-picking. And whether you do that in the news, in discussion, in debate or in opinion, when you distort the facts, you've changed the nature of your communication into propaganda. But WE don't have any of THAT in the US, do we?!

"The Tsarnaev brothers made bombs out of pressure cookers, they don't need guns."
And that distinguishes them from nutcase Timothy McVeigh - how?
My point is that whether or not this was an act of foreign radical Islam awaits more complete information. And that the US has a long history of homegrown nutcases with no connection to foreign terrorism, who have a grotch - against blacks (Dylann Roof), Sikhs (Michael Page Wade), Democrats (Jared Lee Loughner), women (Elliot Rodge, George Hennard), and so on - or who are just plain crazy (James Holmes) - who get a weapon, USUALLY A GUN, and exercise their angry focus.
But it does beg the question, if the NRA's position is that guns don't kill people, people kill people, (and usually with guns), what plan does it have to solve the problem of mentally unstable people getting guns? Does it even HAVE a plan to address what IT claims is the problem?

Senate Republicans voted against a bill that would have prevented the Orlando shootings.
Early June 12, a mass murderer opened fire on people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, FL killing 50 and injuring over 50 more. But what if the Orlando shootings never happened? Or better yet, what if you had the chance to prevent it?
That may sound like wishful thinking from a time traveler’s fantasy, but our callous and craven Senate Republicans had a chance to stop the Orlando shootings back in December with not one, but three gun bills.
That’s right. After the tragic mass shooting in Santa Barbara CA, Senate Republicans voted down three gun bills.
According to CBS News, these three gun bills failed along sadly predictable party lines.
By a vote of 52 to 47, the Senate rejected a proposal to strengthen treatment for mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
Lawmakers voted 50 to 48 to reject a bill that would have expanded background checks for guns purchased online or at gun shows.
Additionally, they voted 45 to 54 against a bill that would have stopped people on the terror watch list from purchasing guns.
The third bill. in particular would have prevented the Orlando shooter from buying any guns because his avid following of pro-ISIS social media landed him on the terrorist watch list.
NBC News reports the suspect for the Orlando shooting is Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old US citizen whose parents came here from Afghanistan. Although he has no criminal history, the FBI has considered him a “person of interest” for the past five years because he is suspected of being an ISIS sympathizer.
As it turns out, just nine of these Senate Republicans alone have received a whopping total of over $22 million from the NRA, mostly through indirect campaign contributions.
Mitch McConnell (R-KY): $1,262,189
Roy Blunt (R-MO): $1,433,952
Pat Roberts (R-KS): $1,584,153
Tom Cotton (R-AR): $1,968,714
David Perdue (R-GA): $1,997,512
Bill Cassidy (R-LA): $2,867,074
Joni Ernst (R-IA): $3,124,773
Cory Gardner (R-CO): $3,939,199
Thom Tillis (R-NC): $4,418,833
This is disgracefully cruel and outrageous, given that an overwhelming majority of anywhere between 86 percent and 92 percent of Americans want stricter gun laws, depending on the poll and the time frame. A poll from 2013 revealed that even 74 percent of NRA members at least want universal background checks.
MSNBC adds that Dianne Feinstein angrily denounced House and Senate Republicans and their ties to the NRA lobby after last December’s votes.
“If you need proof that Congress is a hostage to the gun lobby, look no further than today’s vote blocking a bill to prevent known or suspected terrorists from buying guns and explosives. Congress has been paralyzed by the gun lobby for years, while more and more Americans are killed in mass shootings. The carnage won’t stop until Congress finds the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and protect the nation.”
And yes, many of these Senate Republicans who voted down the gun bills that could have prevented the Orlando shootings are the same ones who rejected expanded background checks in 2013, just months after the Newtown massacre.

So,
For whozit or anyone else espousing the NRA line: I asked this question earlier and didn't get an answer. Here it is again in a more expanded form:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States
"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2013, firearms were used in 84,258 nonfatal injuries and 11,208 deaths by homicide, 21,175 by suicide with a firearm, 505 deaths due to accidental discharge of a firearm, and 281 deaths due to firearms-use with "undetermined intent" for a total of 33,169 deaths related to firearms (excluding firearm deaths due to legal intervention)."
As I understand it, the NRA's position is that it's people with guns who are the problem, not the guns themselves. Given that the NRA sees the problem as the wrong people getting guns, what is its solution for the problem as they frame it?

At this late hour, the news is that it turns out he's just another loner-nutjob who was possibly a gay-leaning homo-phobe who couldn't deal with that fact. It reminded me of American Beauty; a homo-phobe who actually was attracted to men.
Plus the fact that he obsessed with lying about his "terror" connections. He professed his loyalty to several jihadists groups; some that were ideological opposed to others. All his claims, after 10 months of investigation by the FBI,
turned out to be false. He was an American born nut case, period. He was taken off the "watch" list, hence he was legally able to buy a high-powered rifle.
And so our "absolute" second amendment rights are slowly getting us killed. Ban military combat-style guns for public consumption. Anyone on the No Fly list should automatically be placed on the No-Buy List, period. Anyone with mental issues -
a.k.a "nut-cases" should be on the No-Buy List, period. Anyone objecting to that
common sense law could sue the government and have your day in court to prove you
should be allowed to have a gun, period.
This nation was built on laws, let us proceed in that manner.

I just heard this myself. He had gay dating apps on his phone and frequented the night club. Could have been reconnaissance, but his ex-wife thinks he really is gay. Also supposedly he wasn't all that religious, but apparently his upbringing was still just enough to create some massive cognitive dissonance and reaction formation on his part.
Self-hating gay guy who happened to be Muslim. Even appeared to claim allegiance to a bunch of different entirely conflicting terrorist groups that are at odds with each other, because he thought being a terrorist is better than being gay. Pretty sad all around, especially for the victims.
Also supposedly people tried to hush up the ex-wife about him being gay. So that leaves me to wonder just how this is being politicized.

I probably should emphasize that it is not wise to sell mass-murder tool kits to just anybody with the money. But opinions differ on that subject.
And when it finally becomes possible to build laser powered hand weapons and light-sabers, it also won't be wise to sell those, or the batteries, to just anybody with the money.

Is this what you mean by Republicans "unified"? Bill O'Reilly is Republican. Last night his political response to Orlando is to declare war. Personally, I don't see how assigning the military to do Orlando's police enforcement and bombing ISIS in Syria will prevent more mass-murder in the USA, but that is probably because I don't have the far ranging imagination of a Republican.

Wrong, dipshit.
These guns are advertised and sold as assault weapons, with tag lines like "Your man card has been reissued."
But let's say you're right. Assault weapons *ONLY* refer to full-auto machine guns.
Do you support an assault weapons ban?

Gun Industry Describes Mass Shootings Like Orlando as a “Big Opportunity”
In recent corporate presentations, leading gun makers celebrated the fact that consumers bought more firearms because of the December terrorist attack in San Bernardino. And, prior to the massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando on Saturday night, executives were telling investors to expect another big bump — because of the upcoming elections.
Sturm, Ruger & Co. Chief Executive Michael Fifer, speaking at his company’s annual meeting in May, noted that his company — the largest handgun manufacturer in the U.S. — saw a spike in demand that “was strongly correlated to the tragic terrorist activities in Paris and San Bernardino.” Sales eventually slowed down, but Fifer called that a “big opportunity for the distributors to step up and take on inventory” to be ready for election-related sales.
In February, on an investor conference call, Fifer had predicted that “we’ll see a step up of demand if a Democrat wins” the presidency. And if Democrats win control of the Senate, he added, gun sales will increase dramatically based on fears that a more liberal Supreme Court might restrict gun rights.

It's not Orlando's 49, but 10 dead is still a significant number deserving at least a fifth of the TV coverage the Orlando shooting received. Tonight, will the national news have a role-call of those names as it did for the Orlando 49? No, because 10 is too insignificant for the national news compared to 49.

On Thursday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said President Barack Obama is “directly responsible” for the Sunday morning mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando that left 50 dead.
There’s a good reason why McCain would ignore guns and focus on Obama's foreign policy. According to data from the Center of Responsive Politics, no member of Congress has received more direct and indirect support from the National Rifle Association than the $7.7 million that has gone to McCain over the course of his career. In 2008 alone, the NRA spent more than $7.2 million in an unsuccessful attempt to defeat Obama and elect McCain, who was the Republican candidate that cycle.

“Barack Obama is directly responsible for it, because when he pulled everybody out of Iraq, al-Qaeda went to Syria, became ISIS, and ISIS is what it is today thanks to Barack Obama’s failures,” McCain said, according to The Guardian. “[Obama] pulled everybody out of Iraq, and I predicted at the time that ISIS would go unchecked, and there would be attacks on the United States of America… It’s a matter of record, so he is directly responsible… The responsibility for it lies with President Barack Obama and his failed policies.”
As McCain’s comments circulated, he attempted to walk them back with a statement where he said he “misspoke.”

In the West, functionally speaking, “terrorist” is now a propaganda term with little meaning other than “a Muslim who engages in violence against Westerners or their allies.” It’s even used for Muslims who attack soldiers of an army occupying their country.
The scholars Remi Brulin and Lisa Stampnitzky have spent years documenting how the term “terrorist”, from the start, was little more than a propaganda tool designed to legitimize one side’s violence while delegitimizing its enemies’ violence.

The problem with this logic is that in the case of DASH they claim to represent Islam and do not. They claim to be fighting for things most of their fellow Arabs do not support. They are not fighting for the Middle East to have the right to determine it's own fate. Instead they are fighting to force their warped ideologies onto everyone through terror.

The article's title is: Why is the killer of British MP Jo Cox NOT being called a “Terrorist”? Because the killer is white male Thomas Mair, a Britain First affiliate. The excuse the newspapers use is that Mair suffered from mental illness which is now terror shorthand for ‘he wasn’t Muslim’ even if Mair was a Nazi. Mair had struggles with mental illness. But exactly the same was true of Omar Mateen, who slaughtered 49 people in an Orlando LGBT club last week, and he was instantly decreed to be a “terrorist” by essentially every media outlet despite those mental health issues and his obvious struggles with his own sexual orientation.

I guess I need to mention that because Omar Mateen was called a "terrorist", John McCain launched an attack on Obama because the President had not sent more troops to the Middle East to fight "terrorists" that McCain wants killed. McCain has fallen into the lazy habit of calling everybody who is a bad Muslim a "terrorist" because McCain isn't thinking straight and McCain imagined that Orlando and the Middle East were connected because everything bad is "terrorism". McCain had to retract his claim that Obama caused the killings in Orlando when somebody pointed out that doddering old fool McCain was making less sense than usual.

Hear at least we use the term to describe violent acts carried out in the name of an ideology. These acts usually include killing people indiscriminately.

Orlando shooter Omar Mateen exchanged text messages with his wife at the height of the Pulse nightclub rampage, trying to draw her attention to news of the carnage, according to media reports.
CNN first reported the exchange, quoting a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation of the shooting at the popular gay nightclub that left 50 people, including Mateen, dead. NBC also reported the incident, quoting a source close to Noor Zahi Salman, Mateen's wife.
According to NBC, Mateen's mother called Salman during the early morning hours Sunday asking if she knew where her son was. Salman, according to the source, said she did not and texted him: "Where are you?"
Mateen responded: "Do you see what's happening?"
Salman replied: "No?" according to the source.
Mateen then texted: "I love you, babe."
Salman, 30, also tried calling her husband several times during the standoff, a second law enforcement official told CNN.
Salman, who married Mateen in 2011, has been cooperating with investigators. Salman allegedly told investigators that she drove Mateen to the Pulse nightclub in Orlando about a week before Sunday's shooting, suggesting that the gunman identified the target before moving forward with the attack. The development was first reported Tuesday by NBC News.
Fox News reported prosecutors are seeking to charge Salman as an accessory to 49 counts of murder and 53 counts of attempted murder and for failing to notify law enforcement about the coming attack and lying to federal agents.

Second amendment cases at the Supreme Court ought to take into account the invention of the cartridge, the ammo magazine, the semi-automatic rifle and handgun. Courts have already ruled that the second amendment does not cover hand grenades or rocket propelled grenades, despite the fact that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia suggests ‘hand-held rocket launchers’ are protected under second amendment. But now that he is dead, no one heeds Scalia.

So,
For whozit or anyone else espousing the NRA line: I asked this question earlier and didn't get an answer.
Given that the NRA sees the problem as the wrong people getting guns, what is its solution for the roughly 33,000 of the wrong people getting guns?
The reason why I bring this up is because to me it doesn't matter if he was a nutcase, or an ISIS terrorist following orders, or somewhere in between. In ANY case, he shouldn't have gotten guns.
So ... what does the NRA propose to keep this from happening again, by keeping guns out of the hands of the wrong people?
Let me just point out that the author left out vital relevant facts in the opinion piece. Doing that is known as cherry-picking. And whether you do that in the news, in discussion, in debate or in opinion, when you distort the facts, you've changed the nature of your communication into propaganda. But WE don't have any of THAT in the US, do we?!

On Friday, Donald Trump offered up this comment on the Orlando shooting: "It's too bad that some of the young people that were killed over the weekend didn't have guns attached to their hip....Had people been able to fire back it would have been a much different outcome."
Presumably he figured that this was the "strong" pro-gun position, only to discover that even the NRA thinks it's not a great idea to mix firearms and alcohol. So today he walked back this comment, saying that he was "obviously" referring only to "additional guards or employees."
This is, obviously, a lie, as even the lightest perusal of his original remarks proves.

Today's episode of "Good guy with a gun:"
http://www.people.com/article/texas-mom-christy-sheats-mental-illness-
facebook-posts
Texas mom shoots her own daughters dead in the street before being gunned down by police.
Of course she was a Republican. It's Texas. She pretty much had to be. Hardcore gun nut, right-winger, Obama-hater, the whole shebang. And she killed her own daughters on her husband's birthday for no reason at all.
I'm sure this one will be labeled "mental illness" since she was white and conservative. My question is this:
If she's so goddam mentally ill that she's a danger to the lives of her own daughters, why the fuck would the GOP and the NRA want her to have more guns?

Sad, but true.
It's only meaningful when the shooter is Muslim. All the rest of 33,000 gun deaths every year are just business as usual.
Nothing to see here. Move along.
