That's right I can't help it.Sometimes I just say Gorrammit for no reason,or BWA! Sometimes,I will have to say a line out loud, because it is roaming in my head--people look at me in an odd way. There is no cure for what I have, but I do not ask for your sympathy,I am strong and I will get th---SHINY!---sorry---I will get through this.I am not asking for a donation either, that would b---WE GOTTA GO TO THE CRAPPY PLANET WHERE IM A HERO!---(AHEM)--that would be wrong,no my fellow Browncoats all I ask in return is--understanding.If you see me on the street yelling"HAMSTERS IS NICE!"Don't be afraid, infact try to explain to the cop who is dragging me into the police car, that I am just a fan of a show that never got a chance. As Madonna once sang-"Don't cry for me Ariel",wait,no,that's not it--anyhoo if you really want to do something for me----------JOIN ME! Yes, I too have unconciously picked up on "shiny".

Oddy enough the occasional shiny and gorramit have passed my lips recently. Has made for some odd looks from folks - except one who just smileed and said "ah another browncoat" Shiny.

At least we already have a support group. When are the meetings? Will there be donuts?
And what are we gonna do about the fact that I still occasional yell 'Noi j'tat!' or 'Son of a Namec!' at traffic? (500 bonus points to the person who can identify both shows)

I am so glad to find out that I am not alone. I second the motion for a support group. May be we could get some money from the Alliance, uhh, I mean the goverment to help us with treatment. Maybe if we watch Firefly over and over and over we'll be cured. I figure it's worth a shot.

Perhaps this will help you...I find it helpful whenever I am tempted to curse at someone in Chinese or babble something about bein' morbid and creepifyin'...
Firefly: a 12 step program for withdrawal
step 1: Admitted you were powerless over decisions made by Fox executives.
step 2: Came to believe that Joss could restore our faith in mass media. Or at least get a movie out to us. AND have a reeaalllly long gag reel on the Serenity DVD when it comes out.
step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Joss as we understood him.
step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of the tv listings.
step 5: Admitted to God, ourselves and everyone on FFF.net the exact nature of Fox's wrongs.
step 6: Were entirely ready to have Joss remove the defects (if any) of the movie during editing and post production.
step 7: Humbly asked Joss to let Mal be nekkid at least once in the BDM.
step 8: Made a list of all persons who have not seen Firefly and became willing to tie them up if need be to..."introduce" them to the show.
step 9: Made direct converts of such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. And maybe even then, if necessary.
step 10: Continued to do guerilla marketing techniques in Best Buy, Borders Books, Circuit City and assorted video rental outlets, and when the DVD was hidden away, promptly displayed it at eye level.
step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our freakish knowledge of every iota of each episode so as to win the Firefly trivia contests at each shindig.
step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry The Message (and all the other episodes) to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. While simultaneously attempting to actually live a life, work and pay bills when possible.

I say gorram/gorramit all the time, but it's one of those words that sounds similar enough to the more common variant that most people don't even really notice. Odd I don't use "shiny" very often, considering my screen name...
Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

I usually get an odd look when I say Gorramit or Gorram mutherhumpers. Know a guy used to say Shiny before Firefly came out but he said it kind of caveman like,.." Umm, Shiny, me like." Never heard anyone else say Fireflyisms.

Was on a bus t'other day (standing room only) and commented to a friend 'we've done the impossible and that makes us mighty'.
Guy behind me leans over and says to me 'And you know what.. your coat is kind of a brownish colour'.
Which is saddest? Quoting the show on a bus? wearing my brown coat? or the fact that someone quoted from the show to me making my day?

I obviously use "gorram" and "shiny", but I've also taken to using "landscape" in work conversations to refer to situations and environments.

Okay, first off and in the context of that story, maybe there are enough of us to run a "Fight Club" style revolution. Get a Fox exec by the balls, so the speak. Or literally. That would truly be shiny. No so much with the blowing up of buildings, but a scary "they're everywhere!" type Browncoat cultural revolution would be kinda... ai ya cool.
Support group is one thing, but a revolution... that could just be the impossible to make us mighty.
Speaking to the point of the thread, I use phrases at work all the time - especially the Mandarin ones - and am now known as "that one weird guy." Well, ok... they called me that before. But now I'm the weird guy who says stuff no one understands.

I still let an occasional Noi j'tat! slip from time to time. I loved that show, they need to release them on DVD. In time for Christmas.
Pirates of Dark Water...Son of a Namec I am less familiar with, but it's one of the Dragon Ball shows. Or all of them.

I have taken to randomly mumbling, "Am I a lion? I don't know. I do have a mighty roar," and giggling because I still think it's "hi-larious", which is also a word I have taken to saying.
Apparently all my friends think I'm crazy already, because nobody really asks me what I'm talking about. They just give me weird looks.

I've used "Shiny" so much that the teens in my youth group at church have started using it. They act like it's some new "teen slang" and the phrase "all manner of" pops it's way into my sentences all the time. and the word "downright"

Ahhhhhh! Thank you! That was driving me crazy, as I kept saying "noi j'tat" over and over in my head, wondering where the heck it was from. I loved Pirates of Dark Water, and I would love to see it on DVD. And did that cartoon ever come to a resolution? It was a great adventure show, and I can't recall if Ren ever found the 13 treasures of Rule!

I don't think it did... it just got annonyingly close. He got to something like 10, then Bloth got half of them, then he stole 'em back and got 2 more... in any event, after a tease or two, he had 11 or 12 and the show just ended. ...It was probably on Fox.

Those moments are awesome! I had one this October. It blew me away. A friend and I were shopping for a package to send to a friend (a fellow Browncoat) who's currently studying in Italy, and we thought it'd be great to send her some Fireflyish things - jacks and toy dinosaurs. Like the geeks that we are, we're standing in the toy section in Walmart holding toy dinosaurs and having the following conversation:
My friend: This is a fertile land, and we shall call it, this land!
Me: I think we should call it your grave!
And some random guy walks by us with an amused smile to add: Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
And as he walks away he notes: Can't wait for the movie!
We stood there dumbfounded for a bit before there was any spazzing - it remains as one of the coolest moments in recent memory. ;) Ah, Browncoat solidarity. I can't wait for mass parties come April 22.

NO! He was really pretty and I'm really shy. So I giggled like a teenager, blushed and turned away.
It was in Bath UK.. and if he's here... um. Sorry for the spazzing. I'm taking pills for it.

yeah I say gorrammit alot (would say shiny but nothing has been to shiny lately) and i came home and the door was locked my mom walked to the door to unlock it I just looked at her and screamed to her through the door, "Faster. Faster! FASTER WOULD BE BETTER!!!!"

I too say the usual Gorram it and Shiny, but the great thing is that people ask me what that means, and then I can tell them about the greatest show/movie ever. The same with my "Shiny. Let's be bad guys." t-shirt. Hopefully I am creating a whole new set of Browncoats!

I say gorram and shiny quite a lot. Gorram doesn't get noticed so much but last night my mum told me to stop saying shiny. She says that I can't use shiny in that way while I debate that I can. She says that shiny can mean only things that shine, I say that things that shine are always good things (like gold and silver) therefore shiny does indeed aply. Hmmm, does that make any sense to anyone other than myself? Either way I'm trying to use some other words that I used to say alot pre-Firefly around my mum rather than shiny (although it's taking a surprising amount of effort) such as groovy.
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
I also say Gorramit quite a lot. People tend to think that i'm saying "goddamn it" I think. I'm pretty sure that's the reason why you can get away with it.

As for myself...I am so very sorry that I harrassed everyone at my job about Firefly and Serenity a few months ago.
Earlier posts I said that during presentations, sometimes I would accidently use the words " Gorram, Shiney, and Frak" which never went down very well with the audience I was speaking to, and now these yoyos have taken to calling me "River" at work....I'm not sure if I like this.
Oh well...

Shiny and gorram it have found their way into my vocabulary. I think I may be starting to worry my husband. I think he may think that I am obsessed with all things Firefly/Serenity. I prefer to see it as being passionate.

Oh, RiveR6213, Just smile at them kind of crazy like and say, "Are you a Reaver?" Then kind of cock your head like River does when she's thinking about something.
As long as they've seen the movie, they'll sort it out pretty quickly.

New fan here. I heard a while back that Serenity was pretty good but that it's better to watch the series first, so I rented Disc 1. Next day I bought

I bought The Visual Companion and a Chinese bookmark. Week after that I bought the series soundtrack and another copy of the series and soundtrack for a friend - also preordered a copy of Serenity the book. Now that was yesterday. What am
