The GOP’s effort to tie Trump’s hands on Russia
www.vox.com/world/2017/7/26/16034148/europe-russia-sanctions-bill-repu
blicans-trump
The sanctions bill passed the House of Representatives Tuesday by a lopsided margin of 419-3, and the Senate could be voting on it as early as this week as well.
The Senate passed a similar piece of legislation earlier this summer by a margin of 98-2, so it’s very likely that the bill’s supporters will have veto-proof majorities in both chambers of Congress.
If the bill becomes law, the Republican Party will be taking its first concrete steps to constrain Trump’s unpredictable and politically risky behavior on Russia.
Did you see those numbers? 98 to 2 in the Senate? 419 to 3 in the House?
Maybe soon Trump will not be the President handling foreign affairs with Russia.
Maybe someday, after the 2018 election but before 2020, Trump will not be the President handling any affairs, either foreign or domestic.

Make no mistake, there is no anxiety at all on my part. The idea of somebody like you hunting somebody like me is hilarious.
But you miss the point entirely.
People like you and people like me would never even cross paths in a scenario like that.
You can bet that you are going to have a lot of people coming for you though.

Congress has handcuffed Donald Trump on Russia.
Back in December, Obama announced a raft of new sanctions against Russia and the expulsion of dozens of Russian diplomats from the US as a penalty for its meddling in the 2016 election.
Today, Obama-era sanctions against Russia that are in place under executive orders — directives that only the president had authority to enact and rescind — are enshrined in the law. Trump can't rescind Obama's orders. It is not the same as Trump losing all Presidential power and being booted from the White House by Mike Pence, but it is a start.

The next step in taking the White House away from Trump a little bit at a time is for Congress to forbid him from firing Robert Mueller.

If he fires Mueller he's toast. If he doesn't fire Mueller he's toast. By firing Comey and saying on tv that he did it to stop the investigation into his ties with Russia, he's toast. President Donald Trump has stepped up his attacks on Republican senators, an approach he may regret if he is someday impeached and the Senate has to weigh charges against him stemming from an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.
More than half of the 11 Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which would be central to any proceeding to remove Trump from office, have tangled with the Republican president, including on Thursday when he fired off early-morning tweets.
In one Twitter series, Trump called Senator Lindsey Graham "publicity seeking" and said he "just can't forget his election trouncing" in the 2016 presidential race. Trump also assailed Senator Jeff Flake, another Republican critic, as "a non-factor in the Senate," adding, "He's toxic."
Flake and Graham are members of the Judiciary Committee, whose Chairman Chuck Grassley has urged Trump to tone it down.
"He should be 100 percent sticking to ideas and forget about personalities," Grassley said on Friday when pressed on whether Trump might find himself without the friends in Congress he would need to defend himself in an impeachment proceeding.
'TRUMP NEEDS FRIENDS'
Having friends would help any president facing impeachment, said Charles Brain, a White House liaison to Congress during Clinton's impeachment.
Without such friendships, Brain said, lawmakers "can just be quiet," refusing to share information with the White House and letting attacks on the president gain momentum.

The Art of the Deal ghostwriter Tony Schwartz says Donald Trump’s presidency ‘is effectively over’
August 18, 2017
Tony Schwartz, the co-author on Donald Trump’s infamous 1987 book The Art of the Deal, has said he believes Trump will soon resign from his position as POTUS.
The ghostwriter, who spent 18 months working on the book with the business tycoon in the 1980s, has been one of Trump’s most vocal critics since he started running in the presidential race. While he was with Trump writing his book, he said the business mogul was thinking about “how do I do whatever is best for me and how do I get over everybody else,” he told CNN today.
On Thursday, Schwartz tweeted: “Almost all of Trump’s limited attention is focused on beating down his critics. No time for governing which doesn’t interest him anyway.”
“The circle is closing at blinding speed. Trump is going to resign and declare victory before Mueller and congress leave him no choice.”
“He’ll say he did everything he could to save America. He’s going to try and paint this as his own victory and he’s the ultimate victor.”

Everyone seems to be reporting that Steve Bannon is out. Bannon’s exit means the end of even the pretense that Trump's economic policy is anything different from standard Republicanism — and I think giving up the pretense matters, at least a bit.
The basics of the U.S. economic debate are really very simple. The federal government, as often noted, is an insurance company with an army: aside from defense, its spending is dominated by Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid (plus some ACA subsidies).
Conservatives always claim that they want to make government smaller. But that means cutting these programs — and what we know now, after the repeal debacle, is that people like all these programs, even the means-tested programs like Medicaid. Obama paid a large temporary price for making Medicaid/ACA bigger, paid for with taxes on the wealthy, but now that it’s in place, voters hate the idea of taking it away.
So what’s Trump the tax-cutter to do? His agenda is fundamentally unpopular; how can it be sold?
One long-standing answer is to muddy the waters, and make elections about white resentment. That’s been the strategy since Nixon, and Trump turned the dial up to 11. And they’ve won a lot of elections — but never had the political capital to reverse the welfare state.
Another strategy is to invoke voodoo: to claim that taxes can be cut without spending cuts, because miracles will happen. That has sometimes worked as a political strategy, but overall it seems to have lost its punch. Kansas is a cautionary tale; and under Obama federal taxes on the top 1 percent basically went back up to pre-Reagan levels.
So what did Trump seem to offer that was new? First, during the campaign he combined racist appeals with claims that he wouldn’t cut the safety net. This sounded as if he was offering a kind of herrenvolk welfare state: all the benefits you expect, but only for your kind of people.
Second, he offered economic nationalism: we were going to beat up on the Chinese, the Mexicans, somebody, make the Europeans pay tribute for defense, and that would provide the money for so much winning, you’d get tired of winning. Economic nonsense, but some voters believed it.
Where are we now? The herrenvolk welfare state never materialized, in part because Trump is too lazy to understand policy at all, and outsourced health care to the usual GOP suspects. So Trumpcare turned out to be the same old Republican thing: slash benefits for the vulnerable to cut taxes for the rich. And it was desperately unpopular.
Meanwhile, things have moved very slowly on the economic nationalism front — partly because a bit of reality struck, as export industries realized what was at stake and retailers and others balked at the notion of new import taxes. But also, there were very few actual voices for that policy with Trump’s ear — mainly Bannon, as far as I can tell.
So if Bannon is out, what’s left? It’s just reverse Robin Hood with extra racism.
On real policy, in other words, Trump is now bankrupt. If anything, Trumpism is going to get even uglier, and Trump even less presidential (if such a thing is possible) now that he has fewer people pushing for trade wars.

You lost me there. There is absolutely no reason to read the rest of your thought when you say that.
The alternative was Hillary. Period.
I'm not a Republican and I don't only vote Republican. I'm one of the people who actually vote in mid-terms and I know a bit about my local politics and I'm pretty 50/50 when it comes to local stuff.
Hillary and the idea of the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama-Clinton Status Quo continuing was fucking scary. Scary enough for somebody like Trump to get voted in.
Maybe the Democrats learned a lesson here and you'll have a real candidate that I could get behind next time.
All evidence up to now points to the contrary, but you've got 3 1/2 years to fix your party.

A person who pauses to think about the matter has good reason to doubt the sincerity of Trump’s oath of office, or even his capacity to swear an oath sincerely at all.
www.lawfareblog.com/what-happens-when-we-dont-believe-presidents-oath
But a third of the country still approves of Trump — and that third amounts to a huge majority of the G.O.P. base. So all we get from the vast majority of elected Republicans are off-the-record expressions of “dismay” or denunciations of bigotry that somehow fail to name the bigot in chief.
It’s not just that Republicans fear primary challenges from candidates pandering to the racist right. Trump is already supporting challengers to Republicans he considers insufficiently loyal to Trump.
The fact is that white supremacists have long been a key if unacknowledged part of the G.O.P. coalition, and Republicans need those votes to win general elections. Given the profiles in cowardice they’ve presented so far, it’s hard to imagine anything — including evidence of collusion with a foreign power — that would make them risk losing those voters’ support.
So the odds are that we’re stuck with a malevolent, incompetent president whom nobody knowledgeable respects. If so, we have to hope that our country somehow stumbles through the next year and a half without catastrophe, because so far there has not even been the very first crisis, and that the midterm elections transform the political calculus and make the Constitution great again.

I don't believe any of them when they say anything. It will be a shame if 4 or 8 years of Trump turns out just as bad as the last string of presidents we've had are, but they were no different than what you're explaining now.

I don't disapprove of Trump at this juncture. Nothing he has really done so far sticks out to make me go out of my way to approve of him either. Call me ambivolant.
As for bigotry, we've had a very strong anti-white and anti-male stance in government for the last decade or so. You seem to fall into that category as well. I don't consider anything that Trump is doing bigoted.

It's not racist to be proud to be white. There are shades of gray and I'm getting pretty tired of anyone from the left immediately calling you a Nazi if you don't express your guilt for being white on a daily basis.

I don't think there are nearly as many "white supremacists" out there as people like you claim there are. But when you're part of a party that continually goes out of their way to take from white people, cut them down, and do your best to unite everyone else against them as if the average white
American has any real power or privilege, then don't be surprised when white people who aren't privileged like you stand up and tell you to fuck off.

There's no argument that adhering to global warming commitments while at the same time purchasing goods from a country that doesn't is not only bad for our economy, but it completely undermines the effort.
Like I said... People will be people, and people want all the stuff they've grown accustomed to.
I don't deny that we aren't doing the environment any favors. I'm not going to pretend that I know enough about it to have a real opinion on about it though.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head with me though. My small carbon footprint is more about not wasting money than anything else. In the end on a big picture scale, money is the only way that it's going to get done.
I don't know what the answer to that is, and even if I did I'm powerless to do anything about it. I could tell you right now that it would probably wreck our economy if we closed trade with China until they had at least the same standards as we did.

Invisible waste, nearly transparent CO2. There was a scheme to pay for taking care of that waste: a carbon tax on fuel. I am under the impression that there are NO Republicans, certainly NOT Trump, willing to pay a carbon tax to handle their waste. They prefer to dump it into the air and let the rest of the world take care of it for them for free.

Yeah, the story is that Trump asked McConnell why he didn't intervene in the Russia investigation. Apparently he wanted McConnell to dismantle the Judiciary and Intelligence Committees regarding the Russia probe.
They're laying the blame at Trump's doorstep, and Mueller may call McConnell, and others, to testify as to the particulars of the phone call by Trump to McConnell. Apparently it was a profanity laden temper tantrum by Trump pressuring McConnell.
Oh, and this little leak was produced by McConnell's staff. McConnell is a shrewd operator, he will not publicly shame Trump, but will submit a threat to his political career. Obstruction of justice in regards to the Senate Majority leader, both houses are protected under the law. If it's true and Mueller investigates - all the rallies in the world won't help Trump.

If only Trump could buy Senators McConnell and McCain's loyalty with money, as Trump could do in real estate, but his standard operating procedure in business would look like bribing a Congressman, which is a crime.
It must be very frustrating for Trump to operate for the first time in an environment where every move is scrutinized by hostile lawyers. President Truman warned Trump if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Trump must not have paid attention because he was always talking, never listening.

I see why Trump does not learn when Senator McConnell tells him a fact: Researchers tested to see whether politicians changed their prior beliefs in the face of overwhelming evidence, and the results were pretty depressing.
The study, published in the British Journal of Political Science, set out to answer two questions: Does evidence help politicians make informed decisions, even if it challenges their beliefs? And does providing more evidence increase the likelihood of politicians accepting that evidence?
Julian Christensen, a political science researcher at Aarhus University in Denmark, wasn’t particularly surprised to find that a politician’s prior belief affects how they interpret factual information — that much has been shown before. But he was taken back when he saw that politicians doubled down when they were given even more evidence that goes against their prior beliefs. “That was a surprise for us,” he says, adding, “It’s also kind of depressing.”

Here's another little morsel from the Judiciary Committee:
After hours of grueling testimony, the Judiciary Committee is contemplating releasing the Dossier compiled by the British Intelligence spy. Apparently there are a number of factual points that have been verified with more to come.
The attorneys for the British Spy have given the okay to release the Dossier to the public, as requested at a Town Hall meeting with Senator Grassly. He did not oppose releasing said documents, pending legal clearance.
This is getting more and more interesting. Well, I look at it this way, Trump can say, with all conviction, that he is the biggest liar and crook in these here United States. He will live in infamy. Nixon will have to step aside as the biggest crook.
Make way for his royal blubberness!

I think this is funny because he is so clueless when he acts like it is none of his business: Trump to Texas as Hurricane Harvey approaches: "Good luck to everybody"

Hurricane Harvey is predicted to dump more than 30 inches of rain and wreak havoc on the Texas coast from Friday evening into the weekend.

Even funnier, and even more clueless, is Trump saying that digging into his finances would be a "violation" of the Mueller investigation's limits. Every single time Trump says this, he is screaming to high heaven "I Am A Tax Cheater!"
"If you're looking at Russian collusion, the president’s tax returns would be outside that investigation," an adviser to the president told the Post.
But legal experts say Trump's financial history and business dealings are properly within the scope of the probe.

Just pointing out that Trump is in charge of FEMA and Hurricane Harvey, but very similar to Bush and Hurricane Katrina, Trump doesn't act as if it is his responsibility. He will be golfing, instead, leaving his crackerjack team with his responsibilities.
AS HURRICANE HARVEY APPROACHES, TRUMP APPOINTS DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF WHO FAILED TO PREPARE FOR KATRINA
https://theintercept.com/2017/08/25/kirstjen-nielsen-dhs/
Nielsen held the title of senior director for preparedness and response at the White House Security Council.
The Senate report “Hurricane Katrina: A Nation Still Unprepared” names Nielsen as among the key administration figures who failed to act on early warnings about the storm. A related bipartisan report from the House of Representatives on the government’s botched response to Katrina, “A Failure of Initiative,” similarly criticized Nielsen.
While serving in the Bush White House, the Senate report notes, Nielsen received an email from emergency planning officials six months before the storm in February 2005 warning that flooding in New Orleans “could cause similar devastation” as the tsunami that had devastated Southeast Asia the previous year.
Throughout August 27 and August 28, before the storm made landfall, Nielsen and other senior Bush aides received a flow of reports from DHS about the growing strength of Katrina, including a warning that floodwaters could overtop New Orleans’ levees. “Any storm rated Category 4 or greater,” one email from the Homeland Security Operations Center sent on August 28 warned, “will likely lead to severe flooding and/or levee breaching. This could leave the New Orleans area being submerged for weeks or months. … The magnitude of this storm is expected to cause massive flooding.”
Nielsen, the House report points out, headed Bush’s Homeland Security Council for Prevention, Preparedness and Response directorate, a team designed to relay information from disaster response agencies to the president.
Bush and his senior aides did not act on the warnings. On Saturday, August 27, Bush spent the day vacationing at his Crawford, Texas ranch. The following Monday, August 29, the president attended events in Arizona and California as the storm reached U.S. shores, joining Arizona Senator John McCain for McCain’s birthday celebration.
“Despite the clear warnings before landfall that Katrina would be catastrophic, the President and the White House staff were not sufficiently engaged and failed to initiate a sufficiently strong and proactive response,” the Senate report concluded.

6stringJoker, your reply is a variation on the truism: "What can you do about the weather?" One of my employees left a bulldozer at the bottom of an excavation. He could not comprehend why I was blaming him for the dozer being damaged. His excuse went something like this: "It doesn't rain here very often. I never imagined this would happen."
"Trump," I said, "it was your responsibility to move the equipment so it didn't drown. I expected you to fix this even on the weekend. You're fired." The heavy equipment operator was named Trump for this story, but I know him as Jack Ass.
Quote:Trump signed an executive order that revokes an earlier executive order by Obama that required recipients of federal funds to strongly consider risk-management standards when building in flood zones, including measures such as elevating structures from the reach of rising water. Obama’s Federal Flood Risk Management Standard, established in 2015, sought to mitigate the risk of flood damage charged to taxpayers when property owners file costly claims.

Why would recipients of Federal Funds be planning building anything, let alone something on a flood plain? That doesn't even seem like an executive order with a purpose.
I'd get behind one stating that construction of new homes should not be allowed on flood plains. Period. Many local and state laws have already been enacted and are enforced regarding that.
One of the homes I was looking at in the Chicagoland area was like that. I was told by the realtor that the reason the house was so cheap for the area was because it was deemed a flood zone and it needed extensive work. It was legal to put money into restoring the home on the current foundation, but it would have been against the law to knock the house down and build another one.
I know all about planning for the future Second. More than most. That's how I got into the position I'm in now with very limited resources.
Maybe Trump could have spent his day more productively than playing golf, but I don't know what you expect him to personally do about a hurricane.
Chances are it won't be much of an event anyway. Katrina was a tragedy and an anomaly.

Quote:There is all that land in Texas that Republicans want to build upon and then there is all that land that Nature wants to flood. Those two areas overlap. And where they do overlap is a huge expense for the Federal Flood Insurance Program. Trump wants to keep building on land that floods and the Fed Gov keeps paying for flood damage long after Trump is gone. That is why Trump wrote his executive order canceling Obama’s executive order. As a builder, Trump does not pay the cost for flood damage because he sells the building to another sucker (Trump knows there are millions of suckers gullible enough for him to cheat out of their money) who gets flooded. The beauty of Trump’s scam is that the suckers blame the weather, not Trump.

If that is what he did, I do not agree with it. Obviously unscrupulous builders would want to build on flood plains since the land is generally much cheaper (or at least it is in areas that have laws against building on it anyhow).
I'm going to need more information to make a judgement on this one.
There are no laws in Texas against building on a flood plain?

Quote:Texas is Republican controlled. There are no state laws stopping an unscrupulous builder from selling to a gullible buyer housing in a flood zone. There are federal rules, I mean there were rules until Trump decided differently, preventing the Federal Flood Insurance Program from insuring new houses in flood zones. Houses that also are covered by FHA mortgages must have that insurance.

In other news of "There Ought To Be A Law!" and getting back to something Trump specifically did this week that no President ever tried before, even Nixon in his dreams:
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/26/trump-arpaio-pardon-constituti
on-white-house-officials
Bradley Moss, a national security attorney, argued: “By demonstrating his willingness to issue pardons without bothering with the trouble of bureaucratic due diligence or concerns about political backlash, President Trump has sent out a subtle and implicit message to [Michael] Flynn and [Paul] Manafort: hang tight, I have your back.
“He undoubtedly is attempting to forestall either of the two men (or their subordinates) from cooperating with Mueller beyond what’s legally required, with the unspoken reassurance hanging over the investigation that the president can wipe their criminal slates clean if Mueller gets too close.”
Trump reportedly did not consult the justice department before issuing the pardon which, along with being unusually early in a presidency, came just weeks after the court decision and well before Arpaio’s appeal or sentencing.
Martin Redish, a professor of constitutional law at Northwestern University, suggested that this takes Trump into uncharted territory and could leave him vulnerable to a unique legal challenge.
“Should the president indicate that he does not think Mr Arpaio should be punished for that, he would signal that governmental agents who violate judicial injunctions are likely to be pardoned, even though their behavior violated constitutional rights, when their illegal actions are consistent with presidential policies,” Redish wrote in the New York Times, before the pardon was announced.
“Many legal scholars argue that the only possible redress is impeachment – itself a politicized, drawn-out process. But there may be another route. If the pardon is challenged in court, we may discover that there are, in fact, limits to the president’s pardon power after all.”

Suspicious ties between President Donald Trump and the Russian government just keep appearing.
In 2015, a Russian-born real estate broker working for the Trump Organization, Felix Sater, reportedly wrote a series of emails to Michael Cohen, Trump’s lawyer, attempting to broker a deal for a Trump Tower in Moscow. Those emails, obtained by The New York Times on Monday, appear to indicate Sater’s willingness to use a Moscow deal as a way to bolster a Trump presidency.

Trump Org official asked Putin's spokesman for help on Moscow Trump Tower project - Report
Trump attorney Michael Cohen, a Trump attorney and executive vice president for the Trump Organization, sent an email in January 2016 to Russian President Vladimir Putin's personal spokesman during the U.S. presidential campaign last year to ask him for help in advancing Mr. Trump's business interests.
According to the Washington Post, documents submitted to Congress Monday include the email from Cohen to Dmitry Peskov, which reportedly says, "Over the past few months I have been working with a company based in Russia regarding the development of a Trump Tower - Moscow project in Moscow City," Cohen wrote, according to the Post, which cited a person familiar with the email. "Without getting into lengthy specifics. the communication between our two sides has stalled."
"As this project is too important, I am hereby requesting your assistance. I respectfully request someone, preferably you, contact me so that I might discuss the specifics as well as arranging meetings with the appropriate individuals. I thank you in advance for your assistance and look forward to hearing from you soon," Cohen wrote.
The email, the Post pointed out, is the most direct interaction yet known between a top Trump employee and a senior member of the Putin government. However, the New York Times' Maggie Haberman tweeted that the email address that Cohen used was a general email press address -- essentially along the lines of a press@kremlin.gov account.

Oops: The New York Times Accidentally Exposed 'The Hillary Clinton-Russia Nexus'!
JOHN MERLINE
5/12/2017
Below is the incredible New York Times editorial* published on Thursday that lays out the case for how the Hillary Clinton campaign was colluding with the Russian government, and then tried to cover it up by blaming her election loss on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Hillary Clinton-Russia Nexus
The acting director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe, told Congress on Thursday that President Trump's firing of James Comey has not derailed the agency's investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Hillary Clinton campaign. Which is good news. Despite Mrs. Clinton's assertion that the idea of collusion is "a total hoax," and despite many unknowns, the links continue to pile up. Here is a partial accounting of the connections we do know something about.
THE CLINTON FAMILY BUSINESS There may be no Clinton Foundation office in Moscow or St. Petersburg, but it is not for lack of trying. Bill Clinton received half a million dollars in 2010 for a speech he gave in Moscow, paid by a Russian firm, Renaissance Capital, that has ties to Russian intelligence. The Clinton Foundation took money from Russian officials and oligarchs, including Victor Kekselberg, a Putin confidant. The Foundation also received millions of dollars from Uranium One, which was sold to the Russian government in 2010, giving Russia control of 20% of the uranium deposits in the U.S. — the sale required approval from Hillary Clinton's State Department. What's more, at least some of these donations weren't disclosed. "Ian Telfer, the head of the Russian government's uranium company, Uranium One, made four foreign donations totaling $2.35 million to the Clinton Foundation. Those contributions were not publicly disclosed by the Clintons, despite an agreement Mrs. Clinton had struck with the Obama White House to publicly identify all such donors," the Times has reported.
JOHN PODESTA In March — that is, long after the election was over — it was revealed that Mrs. Clinton's campaign chairman had failed to disclose the receipt of 75,000 shares of stock from a Kremlin-financed company — Joule Unlimited — for which he served as director from 2010 to 2014, when he joined the Obama White House in 2014. Podesta apparently had a large chunk of the shares transferred to "Leonidio Holdings, a brand-new entity he incorporated only on Dec. 20, 2013, about 10 days before he entered the White House," according to a news account.
TONY PODESTA Mr. Podesta's brother, who has close personal and business relations with Mrs. Clinton, was "key lobbyist on behalf of Sberbank, according to Senate lobbying disclosure forms. His firm received more than $24 million in fees in 2016, much of it coming from foreign governments, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics," a March news story reported. The bank was "seeking to end one of the Obama administration's economic sanctions against that country." The report goes on to note that "Podesta's efforts were a key part of under-the-radar lobbying during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign led mainly by veteran Democratic strategists to remove sanctions against Sberbank and VTB Capital, Russia's second largest bank." Mr. Obama imposed the sanctions following the Russian seizure of the Crimean region of Ukraine in 2014.
JOHN BREAUX Forbes magazine reports that Mr. Breaux, a former Senator from Louisiana who cut radio ads for Mrs. Clinton's 2008 campaign, represents Gazprombank GPB, a subsidiary of Russia's third largest bank, on "banking laws and regulations, including applicable sanctions."

Four months into his campaign for President of the United States, Donald Trump signed a “letter of intent” to pursue a Trump Tower-style building development in Moscow, according to a statement from the then-Trump Organization chief counsel, Michael Cohen.
….The involvement of then-candidate Trump in a proposed Russian skyscraper deal contradicts repeated statements Trump made during the campaign, including telling ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that his business had “no relationship to Russia whatsoever.”

To Trump this is all meaningless. It’s not a matter of whether his words are truthful, but whether his words work. Since he won the election, that means his words were the right ones to use.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what I believe will transpire, with the help of the media (all of them, not just the so-called MSM), they just can't help themselves; high ratings will be too tempting.
But yeah, the whole Fake News ploy will be taken to greater heights and his base will become the new "patriots" charging forth as though to war. This could get ugly fast.

It's going to be pretty easy to see Trump as a martyr if he's booted without any truly damning evidence. You people and the MSM have been attacking him since November 9th without missing a single day.
You want him out so bad that you will believe any story that comes from any source, no matter how dubious or "anonymous".
The only way you're going to avoid having a big fight on your hands is if you catch Trump red handed with a huge spotlight on it for everybody to see. Some random claims of Russian collaboration without any proof to back them up isn't going to cut it.
I'm still waiting for any proof of anything. I'm not saying that he didn't do anything, because I don't know. All I'm saying is that if he were being prosecuted right now and I was on the jury he wouldn't be getting a guilty verdict from me at this point.

Quote:Forget Russia. The real crime in the real world is Trump owes $1 billion in back taxes and penalties. Can't know how much he owes because his tax returns are a great, big secret he doesn't want touched. But his voters will say he only violated some arcane technicalities and, therefore, his real estate fortune should be untouched by the IRS, which is part of the "Deep State", anyway. Once Trump pardons himself for tax evasion, his voters will be burning IRS buildings in righteous fury against potential forced sales of Trump's golf courses to pay his tax bill. Trump will love every second of chaos!

There are two things to know about Trumpian con artists: One, they’re having fun; two, once a bluffer tastes the sweet satisfaction of scamming a sucker — one’s born every minute, you know — he can’t stop. Once Trump realized people will buy his brand of unction he won’t be able to resist tweeting "I'm being persecuted by an out-of-control IRS and the Deep State!" He'd tweet Americans to delay paying their taxes as part of a protest at the unfair treatment Trump is receiving from the IRS - he is that kind of President - and then his spokesman will walk it back 4 hours later. No matter what he says or does, people of good (and not so good) faith will don (as they have donned in the campaign) their protective glasses and refuse to see that Trump's violations are more than technicalities.

LOL... I forgot about Russia a long time ago.
Is this just another made up story, or does Trump owe 1 Billion in back taxes? I can't be bothered to pay any attention anymore at this point.
If he does, the IRS already knew about it years before the presidential bid and I think he would have gone to prison or had some sort of Ruby Ridge style shootout at Trump Tower.
If he does, I'm okay with Trump going down, so long as every politician who was tied to him getting away with it for all of these years goes down as well. There's no way he got away with that on his own without plenty of political help, and given that he was a lifelong Democrat before running for president that's most likely going to be a lot of current and former Democrats going down with him.

DID SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS BREAK LAW WITH JEMELE HILL STATEMENT? FORMER GOVERNMENT ETHICS CHIEF WEIGHS IN
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was in dubious legal territory on Wednesday when she essentially called for ESPN host Jemele Hill to be fired, according to former Office of Government Ethics Director Walter Shaub.
Hill recently called President Donald Trump a "white supremacist" in a tweet, which Sanders described as a "fireable offense" during a press conference on Wednesday.
Subsequently, Shaub tweeted an "interesting law on the books."
: cited law :
This law essentially states certain government employees -- including the president, vice president and "any other executive branch employee" -- are prohibited from influencing the employment decisions or practices of a private entity (such as ESPN) "solely on the basis of partisan political affiliation."
Breaking this law can lead to a fine or imprisonment up to 15 years -- possibly both -- and could lead to disqualification from "holding any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States."
But the specific language of the law he tweeted "doesn't criminalize today's remarks" because Sanders' comment wasn't "solely" related to partisan political affiliation, Shaub explained. "But it certainly highlights the inappropriateness of using federal authority to influence private employment decisions. Another important norm down the drain," he added.
In short, Sanders doesn't appear to have broken any laws with her statement, but it was quite bizarre for her to call for the dismissal of a Trump critic."
I look forward to this swamp being drained real soon.

THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN In March, Mr. Putin's spokesman said that Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak met with members of Mrs. Clinton's campaign several times while she was running for presi

. . . the notion that anyone in the Trump campaign would have colluded with the Russian government was vehemently denied by the White House. After news of the meeting, which offered clear evidence of, at the very least, a willingness to collude with Russia, the Trump defense on the Russia investigation shifted essentially from no collusion! to collusion isn’t illegal.

I saw this little thing that could get Trump impeached, strictly because Congressional Republicans might find Trump is not steady enough for the job and Mike Pence would make a better President:
Trump is fully embracing the so-called Madman Theory, in which he makes himself so unpredictable that other world leaders fear setting him off. But that approach isn't without its downsides. Former general David Petraeus described it thusly a few days back:
"There is some merit to this. You can argue perhaps there is some merit to it in international relations, although it obviously can go too far. My concern there with the so-called 'madman theory — that actually (Richard) Nixon put forward through Kissinger where he had Kissinger tell the Soviets, 'You know, Nixon's under a lot of pressure right now and, you know, he drinks at night sometimes, so you guys ought to be real careful. Don't push this into a crisis.' There may, again, be some merit into the madman theory until you get in a crisis. But you do not want the other side thinking you are irrational in a crisis. You do not want the other side thinking that you might be sufficiently irrational to conduct a first strike or to do something, you know, so-called 'unthinkable.'"
Why Trump’s threat to ‘totally destroy’ North Korea is extraordinary — even for him.

IF you think the US might nuke you first, you could be driven to acquire a nuclear option of your own. Sure, you won't win a nuclear exchange, but you could make a US first strike painful enough to make the US think twice.

I believe North Korea will build its nukes and Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles and Trump will run his mouth in opposition to please people like 6stringJoker. But if Trump gets a brain fart and foolishly believes his own overheated speeches, he could accidentally destroy South Korea over North Korea's nukes (which is perfectly legal and Robert Mueller could not charge Trump with a crime because being a stupid President is not yet a felony). Then Trump might lose enough support with Congressional Republicans who own Samsung TVs to get himself impeached overnight because they think he is a madman. 100% of Congressional Democrats will cheerfully go with the flow, making nice and sane Mike Pence our new President.

Maybe, maybe, maybe...
Being displeased with a president, as far as I know, is not grounds for an Impeachment. If it is, it will not be a popular one at this point and there would be a lot of negative fallout from that decision to carry it forward without any proof of any crimes committed.
Maybe he does go crazy and actually sends a nuke. I seriously doubt that would ever happen. That was just Trump wagging his bigger dick back in Kim's face. Kim was just a little boy the last time anybody here ever did that to his Daddy.

But US policy has always been to reserve the 'first strike' option for itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_first_use That understandably makes a lot of countries nervous and is helping drive the whole crazy-train forward.
IF you think the US might nuke you first, you could be driven to acquire a nuclear option of your own. Sure, you won't win a nuclear exchange, but you could make a US first strike painful enough to make the US think twice.

Trump is ‘prepping his base’ for a constitutional crisis to stop the Russia probe

Raw Story reports: President Donald Trump is preparing his base for the constitutional crisis he’ll trigger by firing special counsel Robert Mueller, according to a congressional investigator.
Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said the probe has gotten deep into sensitive financial areas involving Trump and his family, and he “impulsive” president was almost certain to fire the special counsel.
“The Mueller investigation could take at least another year, maybe two, but (the House) investigation is closer to its infancy than conclusion,” Quigley said Thursday, during a discussion at DePaul University College of Law. “In the meantime, we live with the very real threat that the Mueller investigation gets shut down.”
Quigley said the investigation, despite its complexity, had already revealed evidence of wrongdoing.
“If you had seen what I had seen you’d want me to go full throttle,” he said.
The lawmaker said he’s trying to communicate a sense of urgency, because he believes Trump is willing to risk democratic institutions and civil society to protect himself from the investigation.
“One of the reasons I speak the way I do when I message about this is I’m worried about a constitutional crisis,” Quigley said. “I think there is a reason he speaks to the base in the manner in which he does. He’s prepping them, girding them for this.”

It's already been established that if Trump fires Mueller he will be put right back in place by the Senate as an independent investigator. That will be worse for Trump. ![]()

I've read elsewhere (I'd have to dig it up) that the other half of this equation that *I* think needs to be there is something that the US won't commit to - and that's the promise that the US will not strike first.

Trump is not the problem. He set himself against the Deep State's agenda. And the Deep State's been heading for WWIII for years.
As for you, you're just a Deep State useful idiot, furthering its agenda. So I hope you enjoy cesium in your coffee. You've earned it.
