Off to the vampires again for a liver check and seizure med level check.

KIKI: Good luck!!

BRENDA: Got there today and I go back in two weeks to see where the meds are and if lowering them has helped my liver.

SIGNY: I was wondering about the liver test, ince levitiracetam doesn't require one. Seems like you eat well and lead a healthy lifestyle, so I hope you get the liver issue figured out!

BRENDA: Well, I am on a high dose of it. Before my GP took it down I was over 3,00omg as the tablets are 500mg a piece and I was taking 3 in the morning and 3 at night. Also I've been on them around 12years. So, we shall see.

THAT could be the explanation. That does seem like a high dose to me. I hope lowering meds is the solution!

Again SIX, FWIW I don't think you have anything to worry about. The deal with wood is that it bends, and it will take a while to bend back into place. So I don't think there's any structural damage, either from the settling or the pop back into place. I've seen worse when we were house hunting, and even those were ok.

Believe it or not, I cut my own chin length hair. I pull it back into a short ponytail and whack that off, then trim the sides separately.

I also cut hubby's hair with a fade, trim his beard and trim daughter's hair.

I'm not so good that it comes out looking exactly the same every time, but it's better than going all crazy haired, and it's good enough to go out with.

I think that is where my GP is heading and I have been wondering if I haven't been on them too long. Anyways we'll see what she has to say when she get the results back.

Nothing wrong with that Sig.

I've been trimming my own hair for a number of years as it is a waste of time for me to go to a hair dresser just to get an inch or so taken off.

My mom wasn't too happy with his hair cutting skills. He was trying to save a little money. Don't remember where he got the tools to try it.

I feel the pain. I don't wear hats though, and I didn't have any do rags at the time once when I was shaving the head I went clean down to the skin on accident at one part, then I had to shave the thing completely bald. I didn't leave my house for a week.

I'm using clippers that I got from my mom years ago. She had them when we were kids. If the color of the case is anything to go by, I'd guess the thing came from the early 70's.

Hopefully...

It's really nerve rattling hearing cracking when you walk around though, especially when something makes a cracking noise up above you.

I've been joking with friends and family that I feel like I'm living the last scene of Poltergeist when the house implodes on itself.

Everything feels stable though. Nothing is bouncy. Even though the porch addition was done by idiots that didn't know what they were doing and is unfortunately tied into the house, the home itself was built on a solid foundation with the correct lumber and proper measurements.

I'm never going to forget what wood looks like after it's been damaged by water for years and hollowed out by ants. Without tearing all my walls down, I've looked at what I can look at and everything the main house looks fine. No visible damage to anything from under the crawlspace or in the exposed area directly under the roof by the furnace. For years I've been worried that there might be some major damage behind the scenes somewhere though.

Just going to have to wait this out a while and let things go back into place and hope a majority of the noises stop and that any cracking of drywall doesn't get any worse. The hairline cracks in the bedrooms right now are hardly noticeable to anybody except for the guy who fixed them originally. I'm pretty sure that if I just gave the ceilings another coat of paint with a good lamb wool roller that you wouldn't even see them at least for a few years.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

My dad wasn't concerned but my mom was. She asked him what he was going to do and he said he'd just wear his hat. He always wore a hat when he went out the grocery stores as I said or when they had what now would be called a "date night". This hat at the time was older than me. I have pictures of him wearing it that date back to the late fifties unless he replaced it when it got really ratty. He was obviously fond of the style of it.
It was sort of off-white and did what he wanted and he was fine with it.

The tools could have been given to him as a Christmas present but I really don't remember now.

So, the arborist just left and I'm excited! She had many suggestions of things I never heard about, like a native SoCal version of redbud. And she also had information about things I didn't know; for example, I've seen Prosopis alba and really liked it, but I had no idea if it was pollinator and wildlife friendly - she said it's VERY wildlife friendly!

So she's going to put together a list of suggestions and I'm really curious what she settles on, after having seen the yard and chit-chatting back and forth.

I think we would have gotten along just fine.

I just finally threw away one of my "work" shirts. It's had quite a few holes in it for a while, but the last time it came out of the wash there were some large ones up by the neck in the back and the only thing even keeping it together was the seem for your neck.

I had to think back to when I got that one and realized it was one of the 2 sleeveless shirts my mom got me from WalMart back when I was still in high school. I actually still use the black one with the same brand name, but the green one finally had to go.

That shirt was almost 24 years old. lol

If I look away from how they handled the rainfall this year, my city is really awesome.

I was finally going to get around to cutting down that dead tree limb that a neighbor pointed out to me last year when we introduced ourselves and he was out walking his dog while I was doing yard work. I think I probably must have mentioned it in here at some point.

It was about 45 to 50 feet long, with about 10 to 15 of that hanging out into the street. Totally dead, and not a single leaf growing on it. This year, the bark has started to peel off and fall down too.

After the recent storms, I was going to finally get up there with a saw and cut it down yesterday, but my neighbor wasn't home. I needed somebody to kind of man the street for me so I didn't cut it down right as a car was passing by. We don't get a ton of thru traffic, but I'm not exactly Mr. Lucky and I like to live by Murphy's Law...

So when I finally got a hold of the city, which isn't the easiest thing in the world these days, before I could even ask to borrow some construction horses to block off the street while I did the work, she said that though she was making no promises she'd have her supervisor come by tomorrow (today) and check it out.

So he knocked on my door this morning and wanted to verify that this was the limb I was talking about (for some reason he was under the impression it was just getting a dead and half-fallen limb out of the tree). I said it was, and he said that it's my responsibility since it's on my property, but he could cut it even with the curb.

I gave him a sly little smile and said "Maybe you guys could cut a little more off than that?" And he said "Yeah, alright. We'll take care of ya".

And 5 minutes later and some cutting from the cherry picker, I had a few hundred pounds of logs to move to the driveway for pickup and only about 18 feet left of tree limb to remove on my own, all of which is safely at least 15 feet from the street.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Never know.

I got a lot of my mom's dishtowels that I had packed away after she died and they are all over 12years old. Also pillow cases and some of those are over 30years old now.

Also had a pair of socks once that my mom had knitted for me when I was in high school. Had them well over ten years at the time I would have been in my late 20s. Wore out the heels in them.

Hehe...

It's why I've got no shame when it comes to buying clothes at Goodwill. If they're in nice shape when I buy them, chances are they're newer than anything I bought in the store.

I still have a Curly from The Three Stooges t-shirt my first girlfriend bought me for my birthday. Probably my oldest item of clothing left, but if I really went through what I kept after the last purge it wouldn't surprise me if there was something older. :)

I do have to get rid of all of my socks that have holes in them though. Got a great deal on a few dozen socks from Amazon about a month ago and they're all still sitting on my dresser in the package and I'm still putting on socks I had from back when GWB was still president.

The boxers are all new though. The only thing besides shoes I still buy new on the regular anymore. ;)

There is no shame in that. I look at jeans prices even in Walmart and I won't pay that. For their prices at the Salvation Army I can get 2 or 3 pair and even maybe a couple of t-shirts or something. Or whatever combo of t-shirt, jeans and just regular shirts I want.

I buy pj bottoms at Walmart then hang onto old t-shirts that may have a hole or two in them and sleep in them.

Used to be able to buy socks at a local dollar store but now what they have in stock is too small for me. So will have to do that at Walmart. Sport bras I've bought there too.

I know, right? :)

The Goodwill by me raised their prices a while back though and if you don't go on 1/2 price Saturday you can find yourself paying up to $9 for a used t-shirt. I refuse that. They still have good deals there, but I won't even look at the t-shirt section unless it's 1/2 price day.

I'm a really hard size to buy pants for, so I have to luck into a good deal and a lot of times when I go there is just nothing in the jeans section for me. The curse of a short dude that did a billion squats in his youth...

I've found enough to last a while though. I have finally had to say goodbye to not one but two pairs so far this summer. But I've still got somewhere around a dozen to go through. Only problem is, there's only one beat up pair left, so when I need new work jeans I'm going to feel guilty using a nice pair of jeans to mow the lawn in.

Can't beat a $4.50 pair of Levis that look brand new on 1/2 price day. If they were easy to find in my size, I could buy 10 of them for the price it would cost for a single pair at Kohls these days.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

So I finally did it...

I resisted the temptation to do it on my own and waited until my neighbor could be there to hold the ladder when I got back down. But I climbed up into the tree while doing a Captain Morgan stance and cut down the two of the three dead limbs that I could reach. Felt pretty bad ass about it too.

My poor chainsaw wasn't meant for that work though. I had one more log to cut to disposable size and I was halfway through the one before that and it literally started smoking.

:(

You get what you pay for. It was only $35. I figure it paid for itself.

The only problem was I had one more thing up there I wanted to do. I made rough cuts originally just to get the limbs down, and as I was finished doing the cleanup cut tight to the tree on the smaller limb the chain came loose. My neighbor couldn't stick around tonight for me to get back up there, so I went ahead and cut up all the stuff to get to the curb for disposal.

So I've still got about a 2ft limb that I want to cut... Going to have to buy a new chansaw now I guess....

Unfortunately, the large limb put a pretty decent gash in the trunk of the tree.

Also, more unfortunately, it was carpenter ants that killed the limb. There was literally at least 1,000 of them in there and as I was sawing them to bits they started scurrying away with the eggs and I got the poison out and took care of all of them so they didn't go right back up into the tree.

I've got some research to do. I'm hoping I can save this tree. The ants have really done a number on it and they're already on the other two healthy looking ones too.

Mowed the lawn and bagged it again while I was waiting for an assistant. Got it down to a level 4 cut now, from 6 only two days ago. Trash day isn't for another 5 days and I have two full cans again now... Crap.

It all looks fantastic though.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Sally Anne that's what the Salvation Army is called up here in Canada. They've put up their prices a bit too but still more reasonable for jeans than Walmart. Also still reasonable for t-shirts and shirts.

I keep old jeans for home wear when I am soaked from the rain. Which happens during the Spring and Fall. I come in drop bags, umbrella, coat take off shoes then go and change socks and jeans.

My problem with jeans is I'm short, so the legs are all long on me. Waist is okay for me. Just length.

Yeah. I'm short too, for a dude at least. 5'7"... My perfect length is 29" on the inseam, but that's almost a mythical size in mens even if you buy the jeans new, and I have to make due with 30".

Add to it the fact that I have really thick thighs and calves, and it makes the problem even more pronounced. Unless I luck into a really "relaxed" cut, about 80% of the jeans I try on that are 30" to 32" on the waist are hard to even sit down in let alone work in.

For the waist, I can comfortably fit into a 30" pair, and I need to wear a belt with a 32" waist or else they fall down on me.

But all my "work" jeans are 36" with the belt cinched up super tight. It's the only way I can wear jeans and do a physically demanding job without it constricting my movement or just splitting on me.

And since half of my jeans are 30" long and the other half are 32" long, it usually doesn't take long for the bottoms to get frayed. That's when they become "job" jeans for when I'm doing employee related stuff. Once they get beat up, they become work jeans for home and eventually become lawn mowing and painting jeans until they get so bad it's time to throw them out.

They should bring back Hammer Pants. I wouldn't mind rocking them again.

Well, I'm only around 4'10", so length wise it is a little worse for me. Every woman has to be super model. Ha!

Also find a lot of these hip hugger jeans which are just ridiculous as they have no pocket space in them what so ever. I need pockets for my keys and loose change and sometimes paper money.

I am one woman who hates purses and has never, ever carried one in her life. I use a backpack and as I said pockets in my jeans.

I remember Hammer pants they were cool.

4'10". I'd imagine it would be.

Do they have a "Juniors" section in the stores in Canada? I remember always feeling envious of women for that step in-between for girls and women since there wasn't a middle-ground for boys and men. It seemed the Juniors section more or less had the same products that were in the women's section just in more dainty sizes. But because of the huge generational gaps between the men and the boys, shopping for even jeans in the boys section for the right length doesn't work because everything is different.

I will NEVER understand the cultural trend of skinny jeans on dudes. It started in Europe in the late 90's and by the time my brother was serving in Germany he said that all the dudes at the club that weren't in the army were wearing them.

I need room to let "the boys" breathe.

Yeah... I forgot to mention the pockets too. That's another huge reason I like wearing 36" jeans that would fall right off of me without a belt when I'm working. I'm able to keep my cigarette tin, a lighter, a knife, a small bottle of mouthwash, my car/house keys, a marker and a pen in them as well as my wallet in the back pocket while still being comfortable and having an easy time reaching in for any one of them. There's even enough room left to put in a flip phone if I ever decided to get another cell phone.

If I wore the 30" jeans that fit me without a belt, I'd have enough room for only a boxcutter and a lighter, and I'd have to pry them out to get at them.

Obviously, as a dude, a purse was never really an option for me.

While we're bringing back the Hammer pants, let's bring back fanny packs too.

Yup.

It is called "petite" and that is expensive because you are paying for the fact that it is "special".

I find the girl's section of jeans too small for me as odd as that may sound and also because they are made for girls, they are frilly and the pocket thing again. So really no use for me.

I've heard of them and there is a bank commercial on tv up here that shows a guy going to go out in SKINNY jeans but can't get his wallet into them. The bank guy shows up with a desk and explains that he doesn't need his wallet to pay just his bank card. Also by this time the guy is on the ground trying to pick up his wallet and is stuck. So it is a funny commercial.

Probably have seen guys up here wearing them but never noticed. They would be waaay too young for me.

No fanny packs. Still see them up here and they are being wore by people older than me. So just no.

Jeezus, yes, it's fucking hot!
Temperature of 95 "feels like" 101. Near the foothills, temperature of 107 "feels like" 117.
Was helping out in the garage (just keeping hubby company, really) as I was sweating my ass off. We have the thermostat set to 78, and it felt downright cool when I came in.

As as aside, I harvested my first beets. Not on purpose: I was weeding, and the beets were so very, very ready to be picked they popped out of the ground with the nearby weed. I was surprised at how sweet they were.

Picked my second watermelon yesterday, and we had oven "fried" chicken, watermelon, and beet greens. No cooking today, tho... salad and sandwiches for today!

No rolling blackouts here, yet.

THANKS!!

I need to replace my mattress anyway, it's probably 25 years old. So I'm looking into tatamis. Aside from being firm, they're naturally ventilated in the sense they have gaps between the (rice straw) stuffing and (grass) weaving, which in themselves are naturally ventilated at a microscopic and chemical level. Plus they're not plastic. It'll be a complete experiment.

The ventilation layer I got is an improvement ... except it's somewhat fragile. So it's a step in the right direction but not the final answer.

There was a ventilation product WAYYYYyyy back when for cooling. It was a 2 layer VERY open-weave mat of very heavy duty single-stranded polyethylene (I believe) fiber. I wish I could find something like that, but sad to say it was a great idea that disappeared back into the mists of time. Like tears ... in rain.

5 full days of working on the lawn...

It's never looked better, and I got the dead parts of the tree on the curb and ready to go.

It looks like carpenter ants in maple trees is a regular thing. It's only a problem when it becomes a problem, so now that it has I need to make spraying the trees a regular part of my yearly routine. 6 feet up the trunk and around the base of the tree. I also need to go heavy on the fertilizer around the base. Even did my neighbor's tree since I caught her outside while I was doing it and told her that I'd do it if she wanted me to but she HAD to make sure her kids don't play around that tree for a few weeks.

I had also put another application of bug spray when I did the weeds last time. Not many weeds, but sprayed the usual spots anyhow. That should be the last time this year. Bug spray might have been superfluous at this point since I hardly ever see a bug at all within the vicinity of the house anymore, but until the mole activity is gone I won't feel bad about putting too much down.

Two huge trash bins full to the brim for the second time in 3 days, only this time I have to wait 4 more without having the ability to throw anything else out.

Yesterday, I played block daddy to the Millennials again. I cut down all the Maples that were along my neighbor's foundation. When she was out I showed her that I had and that I also discovered the foundation of her house had shifted a bit. The top layer of blocks is shifted outward about 1/2" over the lower layer on most of the side of her house. Well... either that or the bottom blocks shifted inward the same distance. (Although not as bad as what had happened to my porch addition, it's far worse than anything I found on my main house).

I let her know that they've got to remove those maple roots, get rid of the other stray maples on their property and be dilligent keeping up with them. Those roots are probably already 30 feet long. They're going to get new gutters because of the storm damage, so that's the time to figure out a good way to divert water (that doesn't just dump it into my basement).

Between the water, the maples, the ants and the moles, we're basically at war here. I let her know I was worried because when she said months back she felt so bad that I was so unlucky with my house that it wasn't bad luck and it was just straight up neglegence from the previous owners and myself that did it and I didn't want to see them have the same bad luck.

I wasn't being insulting. I let her know that I didn't cut those down because it annoyed me how they looked. But I wanted to be able to show them how serious some of their issues are, and use my problems as kind of a wakeup call for them to do something about them before they start having my kind of problems.

I dunno. Hopefully it sticks this time....

Then the neighbor behind me next to the foreclosed house. That's a whole other story.

Those damn maples growing up right next to their garage finally had to go. One of them was reaching 15 feet high and just scraping all along the side of their gutters when the wind blows. The fence is toast, just like I told him would happen last year. You couldn't even walk in the walkway between the garage and the fence anymore. I didn't actually realize how many were over there until I got there. I hung my sawzall over the fence with the cord and rang the doorbell. Once... twice... three times...

Nobody home. So I just went back there and got to work. A half hour later I had everything I could reach from their side cut down and sitting right in the middle of their driveway for emphasis. I could have brought it out to the curb for them, but maybe if they came home and had to put it on the curb before they even could park their car and see how much there was, they could see how serious a problem it was and maybe feel a little shame that somebody else did that while they were out.

Did my

Oh... and I'm going to start bagging my lawn from now on. It makes the job take a lot longer, but I'm shocked at how much grass clippings I throw away with a single reasonable mowing. With only two days in between mows, I went from a level 6 height to a level 4 height, and completely filled a trash bin with clippings that weigh so much I'm pushing the weight I'm comfortable putting out on the curb.

That got me thinking....

How many times per year do I just put that right on the ground when I mulch? 20? 30?

That's a lot of ant food.

And EVERYBODY on my block just mulches. I never see a bag.

Maybe if I start bagging the ants will move on to greener pastures.

Who knew maples could be so invasive? I guess that's your area trying to revert to the forest it once was (a few years of a lot of rain helps!) just like our area keeps wanting to go back to scrubland.

Over here, it's been waaaaay too hot for outdoor work. In fact, I better go take doggie for a walk now, before it gets even hotter.

Well... at this point it was that or call the city on them. I'm not a rat so that option wasn't very appealing to me. But along with my own negligence, allowing my idiot ex-neighbor to live the way he did has helped bring about a lot of the problems today. And now the bank that owns it isn't doing anything but letting the basement flood all the time.

It wasn't "tidying up". I left that work for them when I dumped 50lbs of maple trees in front of their garage to pick up before they could park their cars. I saved their garage. I'm hoping now they took the time to realize that their negligence destroyed the fence. Easy not to even know that's happening when you can't see the fence.

I'm calling the city this week about removing that dilapidated fence that should have been removed by my ex-neighbor. I'll even do all the work myself as long as I can leave it on their driveway and the city will take care of disposal.

I'm going to see if the city can get the bank to knock down the raccoon den as well. And make sure the bank has their guys lock up the doors to the house too, since the front door not only wasn't unlocked but is wide open for the entire neighborhood to see that it isn't locked.

I certainly didn't know until last year. I had blamed the ants and moles for the fence damage, but the maple roots choke the concrete around the posts and actually lift them out of the ground. Unless you've ever tried pulling out a post with 100-200 lbs of concrete wrapped around it, you couldn't appreciate the force needed to do that.

We're going to beat back mother nature. But I need my neighbors on board, and if the bank isn't going to help with that foreclosure I need the city to step in and make them.

Think I'm going to repair the cracks and resurface the driveway this week. Monster job since you could land a plane on it, but everything else is starting to look so good outside the driveway is really becoming noticeable.

It will be nice not having to spray the driveway for weeds anymore either. Took 5 applications this year, and when I'm spraying the driveway is half of my time out there working.

Looks like there is a sale on most of the stuff I need this week too, so the timing is great. It shouldn't cost me much more than $100 hopefully.

Finally get to put that power washer I fixed to good use.

So I measured my driveway and it turns out that it's got more square footage than my house! Edging it revealed that there was an additional 100sq feet or so that I didn't even know was under there. Seems the grass wanted to take it back. I've been here so long I'm sure some of that was on my watch, but most of it wasn't. I can't believe that a large part of the driveway was actually 1.5 feet wider than I thought it was all these years. That ate up way more time than I thought it would going into it since I didn't know where exactly I needed to cut, and the edger didn't really do anything other than give me a line to cut with my shovel and a blade.

That being said, it's going to be closer to $200 to repair the driveway. I'm already about $185 into it if I don't end up taking anything I bought back today. I forgot to buy the $12 squeegie tool too, so I've got to go back. Going to see if I really need to get the oil off before putting a new coat on too. My old man says I don't, but the bucket says I do. I'm going with the bucket unless some pros on youtube say otherwise.

Got about 3/4 of it swept up real good, and had a massive screwdriver with me to dig out all of the cracks. There are a LOT of them. I'm about halfway done with that, but I lost daylight and will have to pick it up tomorrow.

The plan tomorrow is to finish clearing out the cracks, figuring where I'm going to stage my trash bins until garbage day since they can't stay on the driveway, blow off all the residual dirt, power wash everything including getting the cracks real good, then trowel the large crack and use the easier stuff to fill in all the small cracks. I also got 200lbs of pothole filler that I can use for the 5 potholes and to build up the end of the driveway that sunk a bit before the high curb that everyone always bottoms out on.

I've got to give it at least one day before I put the topcoat on, and you're not supposed to be putting the top coat on after 3:00PM, so I'll probably have to wait until Thursday to put that on. We're not supposed to have any rain until Saturday, so this should all work out great....

Unless Murphy's Law rears it's ugly head again.

It's all about the prep work. I do this right, it should look like a brand new driveway was put down at about 5% of the cost of a new driveway. And since I got the top of the line top coat (out of 4 tiers, on sale of course), it is warranted for 8 years so should look good long after I'm out of here.

This could possibly end up being the best investment I've made on the house, dollar for dollar. Some things you just get your money back even, but this will probably pay a lot of dividends.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Well... watching some videos and doing a bit of reading online revealed that I probably shouldn't put any crack fillers in until 24 hours after power washing... so I'm going to lose another day here. No use complaining about it. If I rush things they might look good at first but stuff will start to break down prematurely.

I believe I can still put down the pothole filler today, which will be a big improvement. It will also let me know later if I need to go back and buy more of it or if 4 bags were enough.

Turns out you've got to wash those oil spots out too. It doesn't look as though it keeps the topcoat from adhering, but the oil will just be absorbed by it and rise up through the new coat. I'd imagine at that point it would not be easy to remove either.

I'm going to try some dishsoap, vinegar and baking soda first. If that doesn't do the trick I may pick up something stronger when I'm at the store.

Maybe I luck out and it doesn't rain on Saturday. There was a 50% of thunderstorms in the forecast yesterday after a week with near zero chance of rain. Now it looks like a good chance it won't rain until Sunday.

Finger's crossed.

A lot of people believe that if you combine vinegar (an acid) with baking soda (a base) that you'll get twice the cleaning power, but in reality all they do is neutralize each other and you'll wind up with water and a salt (sodium acetate). Use one or the other, or one after the other, but not both at the same time. Generally speaking, bases such as lye (drain cleaner), ammonia, or baking soda are better than acids to break up grease. Detergents and solvents are also effective grease-cutters.

If you need something stronger, SIX, try trisodium phosphate. It's a strong base. That's what the pros recommend.

But beware, there is one product out there (I forget the maker) that has labelled their product TSP but if you look at the ingredients it's something like a silicate, which is not the same. Also, you'll see labels like Phosphate Free TSP (not the same!) and TSP (substitute), also not the same. The ingredient must be trisodium phosphate decahydrate.

You might try precleaning with gasoline or a special grease cutting formula like Krud Kutter

Ouch! on those temps. The only places in BC that have seen temperatures like that has been up in the Interior.

My corner of BC is suppose to be heading down to 22C which is around 70F something. But if it does rain it will feel colder.

Those lightings strikes started at least 11 new fires in BC but we've been lucky this year. Nothing that the fire services haven't been able to handle.

Four more years of Donald Trump could ‘delay global emissions cuts by 10 years’

Research, published in Environmental Science and Policy, suggests two presidential terms of US inaction on climate change would create ripple effects across other nations. Ultimately, this could delay global emissions reduction by a decade.

The presence of a climate sceptic in the White House also means other countries would have to pick up the slack to stay within the 2C limit, adding a percentage point of reductions to each of their emissions pledges for every Trump term.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah... the baking soda and vienegar put on quite a show but didn't do anything. I tried scrubbing with Dawn afterward too. Got a bit of it up... maybe 50% or so.

Power washer worked like a champ... after I figured out that a clogged hose was keeping it from working. I almost went out and bought a new one.

Still... it took me 2 1/2 hours just to power wash the thing, and that was after working half a day cleaning out the cracks with a screwdriver and sweeping up a ton of dirt.

Looks great. Should be good to start sealing everything tomorrow. I'll go get some Krud Kutter or TSP when I get my squeegee for the top coat tomorrow. I was going to do it tonight, but I'm beat. It's been a long day.

An example of you and them not taking reality into account.

Between Covid-19 and Trump's trade war with China, I'll bet USA's greenhouse gas emissions have gone down by ... a lot. I live under a flight path and I can tell you that air travel has gone down by at least 85%. Vehicle traffic has decreased by about 50%. I'm sure that's just an unintended side effect, but I'll take the win.

Obama OTOH. Despite pious mouthings about ... well, everything... Obama didn't manage to make a dent in anything of any importance. Not the deficit, not USA government "intervention" in other nations, not the wealth gap, and not even greenhouse gas emissions.

The biggest drop in greenhouse gas emissions came in 2008 due to Bush the Deux crashing the global economy. After that - which was Obama, if anyone is counting - they just kept on rising with nary a bobble.

And if democrats don't do any different, how are they any better?

Nice. Chance of rain on Saturday down in the single digits now.

It's too "cold" around these parts right now though. Normally I'd be thrilled about highs in the mid 70's in August that don't come with a ton of rain, but I got a lot of drying time for stuff ahead of me this week.

I haven't been outside yet, but I'm thinking I might have gotten up early this morning in vain. After power washing until 6:30PM last night and putting however much a 1000PSI washer can put out in 2 1/2 hours, that's a lot of water that needs drying before I can do anything.

I've heard to wait "24 hours" after washing, but I don't think that's a hard rule like the drying times of the products themselves. The crack stuff isn't going to go down quickly, so I'll probably start in the center of the driveway and work my way out to the edges while the sun does its thing. Fortunately, there is 100% sun exposure on the driveway until around 2PM.

My only concern at this point is being able to put a 2nd layer of the topcoat down before rain comes. Ideally, I would have already had a 1st coat of all the crack sealers down today, but even if I was able to do it almost immediately after power washing there was no way I felt like doing anything when I wrapped up yesterday.

Wednesday: 1st coat of crack sealers and pothole filler (I can put all the pothole stuff down immediately).

Thursday: 2nd coat of crack sealers.

Friday: 1st top coat.

Saturday: 2nd top coat?

I dunno.... Maybe if I get it down early enough and shave a few hours off each day in between coats so that 2nd top coat is going down immediately Saturday morning as soon as the dew is dry.

Assuming we're free of rain up through Saturday, which is a pretty bold assumption to make 4 days out in our area, there is now a 30% chance of thunderstorms all morning and afternoon on Sunday.

I'd rather not be putting that 2nd top coat on after a rain storm. I wouldn't want to power wash a fresh coat, and it's quite obvious that there are some severe drainage issues in that area which contributed to the current state of the driveway and it wont' take long for some mud to end up on it, especially now since I did all that edging and exposed some high-earth above the sides of the blacktop. I'll be able to alleviate most of those when the gutters are up, although I may want to consider some sort of system that allows for drainage on both sides of the driveway in between the blacktop and the grass out to the street.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Well....

Today didn't exactly go as planned.

Seems I underbought on materials and the job is going to be a lot bigger than I thought it would. The trowel stuff only did 1/3 of the stuff I needed it to do, and only went about 1/6th of what it was rated to do on the pail. To be fair though, it wasn't only filling a crack, but the surrounding ground on both sides that sloped down into it. The bottled stuff that does the smaller cracks didn't fare much better, although it went a bit further than I expected after the performance of the other stuff. The pothole filler is just that... pothole filler. It's not going to do what I wanted it to do at the base of the driveway.

I was kind of exhausted by 2:00PM after a few long days and a little bummed about the situation, so I just wrapped it up early for the day to get my mind right.

Going to go to the store first thing and buy about $80 more worth of stuff. I was tempted to just cut some corners at the curb, but I know I won't forgive myself for not seeing this through. Just going to have to resign myself to the fact that this won't go nearly as quickly as I had hoped, it's going to cost about 50% more than I thought it would, and I'll probably be power washing again before I can get the topcoat(s) on.

Oh well. It will still look great when I get it done. :)

Don't I know it. My middle name is Murphy's Law. ;)

I decided not to do anything again today. Needed another day off I guess. Not going to beat myself up over it.

Went out by sundown and saw the fruits of my labor yesterday. Pothole fixes look good. Everything I trowled in is still pretty filled in and didn't suffer much shrinkage. The bottled stuff shrinks quite a bit more though. I'll probably end up putting a 2nd coat on everything.

Oh well. I'll have to end up power washing again before the final coat, but it's probably not the worst thing in the world to do so. Shouldn't take half as long next time and I'll only be cleaning up whatever sludge makes its way onto the drive after some rain. Who knows? Maybe the rain will miss us this weekend and I'll luck out.

To the store tomorrow and back to work. I'm going to eventually have to wrap up the facia on the house and get those gutters up. Gotta have that done by the end of September for sure.

On a side note, I really do like the way the bottled stuff dries after I troweled it in. It conforms to the driveway around it much better than the troweled stuff does, and I don't think it will be very apparent under the topcoat like the troweled stuff will.

I think we can all claim "Murphy's Law" as a middle name at times. I know I've had my share of plans go south.

Glad your drive looks better. Even up here if you are dealing with gutters you have to get it done before September comes. Wonder what kind of Fall we'll get up here?

Think when I go to see my doctor next Tuesday, she'll be getting an earful about this side effect and the slim possibility that I had a small seizure when I was in a store on Wednesday.

Well with lowering the dose and if they have actually stopped working then it was possible. But if it was it was so small I was the only one who noticed it. I seemed as I remember to have stopped walking, my vision went black but it only lasted I'm not sure how long and I had to figure out what I was doing after it. That's what happens with my seizures. our dear daughter had intractable seizures as a result brain injury at birth, and then developed a rare seizure syndrome that I had to dx myself, so I think I've been thru a lot of that.

Just OOC, how many seizure meds have you been trialed on, and -more importantly- what sort of testing are they willing to do to see if your seizures have returned?

The problem is that you aren't the most reliable witness to what's happening to you, since you go offline when a seizure starts, so you aren't able to tell the doctor how long it lasted or what symptoms you might have demonstrated at the start. For example, dd's eyes would always strongly deviate to the left, indicating a right-hand focus. If you're having seizures in your sleep ... how would you know? (Seizures often occur when falling asleep, waking up, or transitioning between sleep stages.)

If you had a tumor removed, you probably have focal seizures, not true "absence" seizures. The medications for focal seizures and absence seizures are different, so it's important to know which ones you're having. There are a couple of ways to differentiate- one of them is an in-office EEG. If the EEG shows abnormalities in a specific location, you can be pretty sure that what's happening are focal seizures. But if the in-office EEG shows nothing, sometimes the only way to tell what's happening is an in-hospital video EEG monitoring to capture an EEG and video evidence right at the start.

But just to be on th safe side, if I were your doctor I'd order an MRI with contrast, just to be sure that nothing physical was going on.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck. It's no fun hunting around for the right treatment. DD was trialed on a dozen anti-convulsants, the ketogenic diet, steroids, IVIG, and a bunch of other things before a researcher-clinician took an interest in her case and tried something very different. But persistence paid off; eventually we found the answer for her, and I believe there is one for you, too.

I had a grand mal after the tumour surgery which I do remember a good bit of. Yuck!. So I was on seizure medication after that and when I got home for 3 months. I don't remember the name of it now. When I didn't experience any at home I was taken off of it.

I was CT scanned 6 months after surgery and that was clear.

I would say that over the course of when I was experiencing them, I was on at least 3 different medications. One I remember was Depekane and the other two elude me now.

My route to diagnosis was through my eye doctor. I told her what would happen with my eyes and she sent me to an opthomalogist who put drops in my eyes and ran a few more tests. She said I was having seizures and sent me back to my family doctor, who then sent me to a neurologist. Nothing turned up on the first EEG but I came back to his office a few months later after a coupl

YES! THANK GOODNESS!

Though the causes are different I've had episodes of dizziness so strong they knocked me off my feet, as well as protracted milder dizziness. It was diagnosed as 'benign positional vertigo', which I was told tends to get worse as one gets on in years. But there was nothing 'benign' about it as far as I'm concerned! It made me uncertain about walking anywhere, driving, being away from home or work ... because I never knew when it would strike, or escalate into a serious attack if I was already having a lower-grade episode.

Anyway, I mention that because I do sympathize with the uncertainty one gets; or the outright disability it causes when it's so bad you can't even stand upright. (Fortunately, I've never been dizzy enough to throw up.)

Glad you're feeling better, Brenda.

Take it nice and slow until you see your doctor, kay?

So another $110 in supplies and working until the sun went down and I still didn't get the cracks in the driveway sealed. I'm going to need 3 more bottles. Those alligator cracks are the worst.

(In case somebody doesn't know what I mean by that, here's a good image):

I decided to do the stuff by the curb that was severely alligatored too. The bottles don't go very far on that, I'm afraid, and down by the curb the asphalt that remains is pretty rough so rather than just filling in the cracks I'm also giving the surface a good base coat before the 1st topcoat goes on as well.

So far, I've put 15 gallons of product on the driveway with a trowel. I've even taken the gallon bottles when I'm done and cut them open and scraped up the good amount that most people probably just throw away.

I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to do a 2nd coat on the crack sealer or not. It certainly could use it if I want a uniform finish. I just don't know if I want to keep pouring money into this and working all week next week on it in between rain too.

Unless we get really lucky, there's going to be about 1/2" of rain and thunderstorms on Monday, which is going to suck since I won't be done by then either way and I will have to power wash again before the topcoat goes down.

At this point, if I do 2 coats of the topcoat, I'm about $400 into it. I could probably easily turn that into $500 if I hit the cracks a 2nd time.

Not going to make my mind up tonight. Time for a shower and chow and a little bit of relaxation in the A/C.

Definitely. When that happens I have to concentrate so hard on where I am walking and what I am doing.

I have heard about what you've experienced. That sounds worse than even what this medication causes which is bad enough to me.

I plan on it. Nothing big to do over the weekend.

I've seen cracks like that in roads.

Your repairs are a lot of work but I am sure it is better for everything in the long run.

I appreciate your conundrum. Let me ask you a question: Are you trying to get your driveway to look uniformly "new", or are you trying to stick the pieces together so it doesn't get worse?

I think maybe "sticking the pieces together" is a good goal, more doable and less money than trying to make the driveway look new. As long as you can keep the pieces together and prevent deterioration, I think you're well ahead of the game!

OTOH if all you're trying to do IS stick the pieces together and seal the cracks, and it's till proving to be a lot more expensive and difficult than you anticipated... well, you have my sympathy! But I agree with BRENDA, it will be better in the long run.

Well, I finally FINALLY finished reviewing the two major legal documents that I've been sort of stalling on for a while.

It's important, it's difficult, and it's full of concepts I don't understand. Precatory? Memo of intent? But I think I found all of the bugs and have written down all of the questions that I need to. I just wish hubby had participated. I get so wrapped up in details I sometimes miss a big picture.

After that, three smaller documents (well, six, but three are duplicates of the other three) and I get to finalize the dispute that we had with hubby's retirement board. Then after that, I need to nail MY retirement board down IN WRITING on another important matter.

God, I hate paperwork. It sucks. And the funny thing is, that was the majority of my job before I retired from being final QA of our group. I thought I was supposed to be retiring, but it seems like I'm still working. Doing the task that I dislike, but am far less qualified for than my real job.

Just as an aside, I walk out with the dog into the backyard for her before-bed pee break. Tonight, I spotted the skunk before she did, so I called her back rather harshly and stuffed her back into the house while I chased the skunk out of our yard. But I DID get to see how it's getting in and out: it is really squeezing under the gate. But if it eats too many more fallen avocados, I don't think it will fit!

This animal has a HANDSOME ginormous fluffy tail. And I don't mind skunks, really, I just don't want the dog to get sprayed. So skunks are welcome into the yard- just not when the dog is there!

Well sticking the pieces together and sealing the cracks is kind of the same thing. Unlike on a heavy traffic road, the pieces pretty much stay where they are on a driveway. They just alligator like that over the years maily because of the rough winters we get in these parts. Water finds a way in, water turns to ice, ice breaks the asphalt. The more out of control you allow it to get, the worse it gets every year.

The driveway was far from perfect when I moved in, and this high water table does me absolutely no favors, but it's just another learning experience for me. I could have done this years ago when I first bought the house and kept up with it every 3 or 4 years with a new topcoat for about the same money I am paying right now and probably 1/10th the work.

Most of the damage is at the street, so I need to find out when they're going to re-do the roads and push the issue that I need new curbs. My neighbors down the other side of the block got new ones the summer I moved in. They were just finished wrapping up the newly paved roads the day I moved here. But they didn't do my curbs, and they're quite deteriorated. And it's that stupid super high curb at the end of the driveway that everyone bottoms out on.

Hopefully the work I'm doing down there now is just a te

At least you found out how the skunk is getting into your yard. Can you lower the gate anymore? That might stop it from squeezing under it and eating anymore of your avocados.

Agreed on the dog, but if YOU get too close to the critter, you to could end up on the receiving end of eau de skunk. Don't think you or anyone in the house wants that any more than the dog. Please be careful when dealing with this critter.

I chased it away by shining a bright flashlight on it, throwing rotten avocados and making noise. It didn't want to move at first but by the third avocado landing in its direction it finally decided to leave. I do't think I ever got closer than 12 feet. Can skunks spray that far? I hope not!!!

Think I knew about the lights and the noise. Heard that will work on raccoons too. Don't know how far their spray reaches. That's something you would have to look up in case it returns.

Skunks can spray up to 15 feet. Unless you had a strong wind behind you, your husband might not be letting you in the house right now if things turned south.

Skunks actually don't like spraying though. You'd get a whole lot of warning first before it did, and it's not very likely it ever would unless you had it trapped and it had nowhere to get away.

Got the cracks sealed and the oil primer down.

I'm still going to have to wait a few days now. The biggest and longest crack was filled with stuff only rated for 1" and I can already see the telltale signs that as it shrinks it's going to split. I can't put topcoat down while that's going on, and I'll have to wait until it happens so I can re-patch it.

I bought 6 bottles today and only needed 3 for the job, so I should have plenty to do all the wrap up when everything is sufficiently dry.

I also bought a bunch more topcoat online today since the sale was over and they were almost sold out. I can return it if I choose to only go with one coat, minus a $2 processing fee. But if I didn't buy it today it would have been $9 or $10 more per bucket.

We'll see if I do any more work on it tomorrow. I might only be putting the 2nd bottle of oil primer down. Monday is a literal coin flip for thunderstorms now, so nothing should be put down that I would be afraid would wash off before it set.

Fingers crossed that it's only the 1/2" of rain in the forecast and hopefully much less than that. There's zero chance I'm going to power wash again, so if I have a mess to clean up all I have is a blower and a garden hose to prep for the topcoat.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Skunks for the most part are extremely tolerant, and only spray as a very last resort - or if they're young and get startled.

My dog Mooch tried to play with an adult skunk once, and it stamped its little front feet and turned and trundled away FOUR TIMES (with my dog racing around to the front to bark and play-bow each time) before the skunk finally let her have it. And even then it was only a very little spritz well-aimed to above the top of the nose.

I like skunks far better than raccoons. They're much less destructive and aggressive, and as a bonus they catch and kill small rodents.

That said like any mammal they can carry rabies.

As an aside, AFAIK the one mammal that isn't a big rabies threat are possums because, apparently, as marsupial mammals their low body temperature isn't as hospitable to the virus.

Glad I got up early and finished the 1st coat of everything by early afternoon yesterday.

Woke up this morning and now there is over 50% chance of thunderstorms today AND tomorrow. As of last night the chance of rain today was well under 10%.

I think I'm done on the driveway until at least those dual storm systems down south are gone. I don't think anybody knows what they're doing right now because of them.

Hopefully the stuff I laid on real thick, like in between the end of the driveway and the curb, doesn't get too damaged. I'm sure it's not "dry" yet.

Sweet. 55% chance of thunderstorms today and nary a drop.

The problem is, there's 52% chance tomorrow too...

I think I might just put the first topcoat down on Tuesday, or even on Monday if things wildly change and it doesn't look like rain. Only a 7% chance on Tuesday and Wednesday, and temps reaching the mid 90's.

There are still two spots that I laid stuff down way too thick that I think are going to end up cracking as they dry more, but in terms of the percentage of the surface area of the entire driveway it's probably only less than 1/2 of 1%. I've got enough to put two topcoats on, so after I get the first coat down I can just wait out the entire drying process, patch up whatever residual stuff could use some patching, then throw down the 2nd top coat.

The cracks I sealed look wonderful now that everything has dried. It's probably impossible to make a driveway that was in this state of disrepair look brand new without tearing it out and putting in a whole new one, but I think it's going to look as good as it possibly ever could for less than $500.

And at this point I'm somewhat fairly convinced that it could look good for many years to come and this repair work has done a lot more than just make the place more aesthetically pleasing. If I'm still here in a few years and haven't gotten the entire place ready to sell, I'll make sure to spend $100 on another round of topcoat and it should last until I do sell it.

I can't wait to see what it's going to look like.

Jeepers Creepers...

I should have gotten an A/C years ago. Damn thing costs nearly nothing to run compared to what I thought it would.

I haven't had a single uncomfortable day in my house this summer and the bill was only $10 more this month than it was last year at this time when I was running that blower out the attic window 12 hours per night and still hitting the 80's inside with nothing pulling the humidity out of the air (and it was hotter this year).

Any new owner/family would need a better solution, since only one room directly benefits from the A/C and it requires having a beast of a fan making a ton of noise that isn't ideal for talking to other people when it's going off, but it's perfectly suitable for my needs since I don't sleep in the frigid bedroom and I'm usually out working all day while it's on. It's rather novel to be able to walk around my house with clothes on in the summer and not be sweating all over the place.

I don't think I'll be paying for a new central air system before I sell, but maybe I'll throw this A/C in with the house and get a new one when I get into a smaller house. If that thing can cool this house, it's going to have zero problems keeping my next house very comfortable without breaking the bank.

It sounds like you're making good progress on the driveway, SIX! And glad to know that the AC is keeping you comfortable.

At this end of the country, the weather has cooled off: today was "only" 95degF. I decided that I can't outwait the weather, and now that the biggest (and worst) part of the legal stuff has been reviewed (I emailed my suggested draft edits to the lawyer today, after several other involved people took a look at it) I feel like I've been released to do yardwork again. So I planned on just a few short chores for dd and myself: I picked up fallen avocados while dd swept the walkways. But after that short (20 minute) task I was so knocked out I took a 1-hour nap!

Anyway, the temperature will be going down, then up, then down again, but if I break up the work into small tasks I can make progress. The garden is definitely progressing to fall: the cucumbers are done, and the zucchini is quitting (FINALLY!), I have two more watermelons and several orange-fleshed honeydew melons to harvest as we need fruit. Tomatoes have been ripening steadily, but the tomato vine is already losing its leaves and preparing to wind down. The borage has been blooming for a week, the sunflowers JUST started blooming (late planting!) and do they look lovely! I originally put them in for hubby- they're his favorite flower- but they say "late summer" to me so emblematically that I think I'll plant them every year.

I'm already planning to dig up the zucchini to prepare an asparagus bed, and picking out the winter vegetables and flowers for the new pollinator bed that I'm planning. I have some plants picked out for the front yard to fill in the bare spots, and hubby is happily (if sweatily) ensconced in the garage workshop, dimensioning wood (using hand tools) for a platform bed.

Tomorrow I will finish up getting ONE MORE piece of info for our tax guy then I can call them and drop off the paperwork. The issue was that the retirement board fucked up hubby's distribution for 2018 AND 2019... anyway, the board has agreed to reimburse us for any additional tax liability that they caused us, so I need to have the taxes calcuated based on what a correct distribution would have been versus what they actually did...

After that I have a few smallish estate planning items to review/revise and then I'll be done with all of the heavy-duty legal lifting. Looking forward to that! After that, I really WILL feel free to tackle some other big project!

Paperwork sucks... Good to hear you're almost done with it, for now anyways.

At least where you're at it never really turns to winter so there's always time to work outside. Time is ticking in these parts. I got lucky last year and was able to work outside until the first or second week of November, but that's not likely to happen two years in a row. I still have to finish the driveway, patch my foundation, wrap up the overhang and the columns and put the soffit and new fascia back up so I can have the gutter guy do his thing.

I'm afraid that putting legit windows in the porch so I can start working on that is probably going to have to wait until next spring. Going to have to leave the plastic up for another winter, but at least it's still up strong and I don't have to spend a whole day doing that again.

I'm so mad right now...

Freakin' weather is all over the map. Just like yesterday morning the sky is clear blue with a high in the mid 90's but it's more than 50% chance of rain.

Tuesday and Wednesday were both 7% chance as of yesterday, but now tomorrow is showing 18% with 8% on Wednesday.

And that's just one one weather site.

If I go to the other one for a second opinion, it's only 20% today with 20% tomorrow and 10 on Wednesday.

I literally had around 10 days with zero rain and the grass is turning brown. It's not like we couldn't use it, but the amount of cleanup I'm going to have to do with just a little rain before putting down the first topcoat really sucks if it does happen.

And now I'm not sure if I'll even be able to feel safe putting it down tomorrow with a 1/5 chance of rain. If I do, I have to have it done somewhat early too, since the pail says have it completed no later than 3PM since morning dew and such can screw up the finish just as bad as rain can. That's probably not really a factor here if we don't get any rain since all of your hot weather seems to have blown over here for the next 5 days, but the 10 day forecast is miserable here now without a single day in single digits for rain chances and around 25% chance on average.

And the worst part is that every five minutes the forecast changes. I could decide to take a chance later tomorrow if the storm system passes and chances are low overnight only to find out by the time I come back inside that they've upped the chance of rain Wednesday from 10% to 60%.

:(

I was thinking about the A/C thing...

I probably need to throw anything I read about fuel costs on my heater in the winter right out the window since my furnace is ancient.

The blower for my furnace is probably nearly identical to the one I was using to cool off the house last year. The electricity costs to run the damn thing are pretty insane, and I used roughly the same amount of electricity in January and Feburary as I did the last two months with the A/C on an average of 10 to 12 hours per day, along with a 200watt fan to spread it. (Meaning that using the supposedly "cheap" natural gas solution, I pay a summer A/C bill on top of a winter gas bill).

I almost wonder if I'd be better off using electric heating solutions to do most of my house heating in the winter this year, and relying on that ancient furnace only to pick up the slack. It's actually possible that it might cost me less money to keep the house warmer than I usually do if I try it.

Lucky you. I think you're getting the nice weather we had last week, Brenda.

Well... two days in a row where it was more than a coin flip chance of rain and as far as I know there hasn't been a single drop. One site says no rain all night, the other one shows at least a 10% chance every hour overnight.

But if it holds until around 7 or 8AM tomorrow, I should be able to blow off the driveway and put the first topcoat down safely without having to worry that much about any rain in the next 36+ hours after it's done.

It would be too much to hope that it would be dry for another week looking at the forecast though, so I will end up having to figure out how to wash and clean it again before I can make the final patches and put the 2nd coat on.

It should probably be alright. It's not like people all over the country don't do this all the time, and as far as I know nobody has figured out how to control the rain yet.

Back at my doc's today to get the results of the second bit of blood work she wanted done. She was pretty happy. My liver function is now back to normal. It was my seizure meds causing the problem. The level I should be at is 2,700mg but I am actually under that at 2,540mg. So all is rosy. She wants to do a recheck in three months.

Right now I would say anything is possible with the wacky weather this year.

But for right now I will take dry over wet. Maybe we'll get a nice, dry and sunny September this year. That would be welcome.

I hope you can get all that work done on your drive Jack.

IS she planning on testing for the possible breakthrought seizures that you may be having? Did she even address them? Or is she content to stick her head in the sand?

Sorry if I sound a little pissed, but I am. This sounds like the half-assed treatment my other Canadian friend (in Ontario) is getting, and like the half-assed treatment WE used to get from our half-assed HMO. (He has prostate cancer but they refuse to operate.)

Yeah, I know... properly diagnosing and treating people sometimes takes more than the average amount of money. About 30% of the time the first drug that a doctor tries DOESN'T WORK. (That is the sad reality of pharmacology!) Sometimes it requires ... what is that word ... thinking ... on the part of the doctor. They need to have a very well-grounded understanding of what is happening, not just a lookup table of possible diagnoses and treatments, with one eye on the lookup table and one eye on the bottom line.

Anyway. I hope that what you had was just your body's temporary adjustment to lower seizure meds, not the beginning of a trend. (But in my experience once you lose control of seizures it's hard to get it back again, and things tend to go from bad to worse until you find something that really works.) IF the breakthrough seizures ... or whatever they are ... continue, does the doctor ... OR YOU ... have a threshold beyond which something will be done? It's important that your doctor, and you, have established a "line in the sand" that -once crossed- will precipitate further action.

Truthfully, I didn't mention what happened in the store because looking back I am now not sure. I know I was heading for a yawn at that time and that could have been another reason that I stopped, and my eyes may have just closed. I did mention the dizzy spells and she thought I had had a seizure, so if I had said yes then the route would have been the neurologist.

I will keep a close eye on things and if I have any more episodes like that, I will go back in before November and tell her as well as keep a list of what happened and where.

If anything else does happen most likely I will be sent back to a neurologist at the office I was going to and they will run an EEG. Then there will be the discussion about most likely a different medication.

So for right now it is just wait and see.

I took the risk and did it.

Looked really sketchy this morning and I was second guessing myself the first few hours, but I got that topcoat down and it looks like 29 hours with a 0% chance of rain now and early Tuesday morning we raise to 1% chance and top out at about 7% all day. Hopefully we stay dry until Friday at least.

It looks fantastic!

Hope it's dry for you too, Brenda.

Oh... and I hope you have better health insurance than HMO insurance down here.

Great! It sounds like you have a plan! I like the idea of keeping a diary. I'm trying to get dear daughter to do that so we can address her IBS or wherever the heck she has, but it's too much trouble for her.
