It will be on Biden's desk a month too late for 18 million unemployed Americans.

Conduct that poll again once 18 million Americans don't get their unemployment check next week because Congress didn't act in time and had something more important to do.

Be sure you tell them about how federal employees get $1,400 per week for up to $21,000 too while they couldn't get a $100 boost in their current benefits.

That's not a countdown you should be looking forward to.

By election day, nobody is going to remember the 1.9 Trillion. The stimmy checks will be spent by the end of March, and unemployment runs out for 18 million Americans more than a year before the election.

Meanwhile, a nearly unchecked "progressive" agenda is going to backfire, and power will shift in the mid-terms just as it almost always does.

What a dumb article.

2 months and a day after inauguration, Biden still hasn't done a solo press conference. If this keeps up, his will be the least transparent administration since Howdy Doody.

They're also trying REALLY hard to keep a media blackout about the border.

THIS is a problem:

That's a nice blanket though. I bought one at a Tom Petty concert back in the late 90's and I still use it all the time today. Exact same color and pattern too. Insanely well made for the price I paid for it.

ETA: Seems Google isn't going to provide this time, but that blanket makes an appearance in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie too. It's not in the movie long, but it is used as a throw cover on the seats in one of their cars.

I always get a kick when I see that blanket pop up over the years. There are no tags on it, but I'm assuming that it was made in China or whichever 3rd world country we were exploiting for cheap labor at the time of production.

It would be pretty funny if mine actually was made in Mexico in the late 90s, but the ones that the Mexicans pictured trying to illegally cross the border got theirs made in China in 2021.

Biden Team Preparing Up to $3 Trillion in New Spending for the Economy

Exclusive photos from inside a U.S. Customs and Border Protection temporary overflow facility in Donna, Texas, reveal the crowded, makeshift conditions at the border as the government's longer-term child shelters and family detention centers fill up.

Why it matters: Each of eight "pods" in the so-called soft-sided facility has a 260-person occupancy, said Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), who provided the photos to Axios to raise awareness about the situation. But as of Sunday, he said, one pod held more than 400 unaccompanied male minors.

Because the Biden administration has restricted media coverage at housing facilities, images like these offer a rare window into conditions.
Cuellar, who recently visited a shelter for children, did not tour the Donna facility or take the photos himself. He said the photos were taken over the weekend.

What they're saying: Cuellar described the setting as "terrible conditions for the children" and said they need to be moved more rapidly into the care of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Border Patrol agents are "doing the best they can under the circumstances" but are "not equipped to care for kids" and "need help from the administration," he said.
"We have to stop kids and families from making the dangerous trek across Mexico to come to the United States. We have to work with Mexico and Central American countries to have them apply for asylum in their countries."

“I have said repeatedly from the very outset a Border Patrol station is no place for a child," DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told CNN on Sunday. "That is why we are working around the clock to move these children out of the Border Patrol facilities into the care and custody of the Department of Health and Human Services that shelters them.”

On MSNBC, he compared the administration's actions to those of the Trump administration,"We are not expelling children, girls, 5, 7, 9 years old back into the desert of Mexico, back into the hands of traffickers.”

The bottom line: Facilities are at capacity under coronavirus protocols, and the Rio Grande Valley sector — which includes Donna — has far exceeded even its non-pandemic limits.

As of Saturday, there were 10,000 migrants in CBP custody overall. Nearly half were unaccompanied minors — thousands of whom had been waiting for more than 3 days in border patrol facilities, according to government data provided to Axios by another source.

Yeah, just what we need: a flood of impoverished, uneducated, unhealthy, non-English speaking, gringo-resenting border-jumpers who obviously don't respect our laws.

Yanno, we can't even house our own homeless, heal our own sick, educate our own inner city youth, and provide jobs for the jobless. What makes anyone think we should take in a million more?

But the Dems attitude seems to be that if you jump the border you're entitled to food and water, shelter, and medical care. We treat them better than we treat our own citizens.

How about this?: If we don't fuck up their countries in the first place, then we have no moral responsibility to provide a safety valve for their own governments. So let's leave them alone ... no sanctions, no "interventions", no political cover for authoritarian governments, and require them to solve their own problems.

It would cost about $20 billion per year for the government to effectively eliminate homelessness in the United States, a Housing and Urban Development official told the New York Times on Monday. That’s just slightly less money than Americans spend on Christmas decorations, according to an analysis from ThinkProgress. Nearly 634,000 people were homeless last year, according to HUD.

On average, refugees who arrived before they turned 14 finished high school and went to college at the same rates as their native-born peers. As for those who come to the US as refugees as adults, most struggled with low employment rates and reliance on government assistance at first. But in only six years in their new country, the same group of refugees surpassed native-born Americans it came to employment and their reliance on welfare or food stamps. According to this study, refugees aren't quite the drain on society that some lawmakers have painted them to be.

Study finds refugees actually pay the US government thousands more than they get from it

If you look at NZ's immigration laws, or Australia's immigration laws, or even Canada's immigration laws, they're EXTREMELY tough on would-be immigrants. A US citizen would be extremely lucky to find a place in any of those countries, no matter how long they were willing to wait.

And while NZ and Australia don't have to deal with hoards of border-jumpers - being islands with many days worth of sea-crossing to even get there - Canada doesn't mind shutting its doors entirely. You go to Canada illegally and get caught? You get sent back to your last known country of residence, no questions asked - unless you go to jail first AND/OR get hit with a heavy fine. You are completely at the mercy of whoever you appear before, and whether they've had a good night's sleep or are grumpy for some reason. You get no second chances, no alternate choices. AND you lose ALL hope of immigrating legally into Canada, ever again.

Why people think the US should be different from their own country is a mystery to me.

In the meantime, let's divert briefly to 'skilled' immigrants. They're allowed in for one reason - to pressure high-paid wages down (along with H-1b visa holders). They don't help anyone except the businesses who want to get more for less. And American workers who aren't willing to work for peanuts are left without jobs.

Now, back to those border-jumpers. For some strange reason the US provides better care and services for them than it does for its own citizens. They get free medical exams, free medical treatment, free legal advice ... IF they come through the system, they get put on a roster of asylum claims to be considered, and then they're allowed to disappear into the woodwork, never to be seen again.

And whether they come through the system OR are totally undocumented, once in the US they get free public schools through HS, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, treatment at county hospitals, and so on.

Living in an illegal-immigrant heavy area of the country, I can tell you a many have no intention of assimilating. They have no loyalty to the citizens they live among, to the laws, or the country. They're here to game the system and get as much as they can get.

Why we should allow border-jumpers in, and allow them to stay, is beyond me. It certainly doesn't benefit us citizens who have every legal claim and moral expectation that our government should be looking out for us, its citizens, first, before any other consideration.

I'd have to go dig it back out but elsewhere I posted the government figures, which were percentage slices for ALL annual wages. Of course the government reports out mean and median. But using its own figures, the MODE of annual US wages is less than $1000 per year. No wonder they don't report that.

6ix, you seem to be under the impression that poor people own their jobs, not the rich people who pay the poor. Since the poor own almost nothing, nothing is how much say they have in who will do the job and where. On the other hand, the government (or even unions) can scare the living hell out of rich people, making the rich jump and do tricks or else lose their wealth. That is very obvious to the wealthy, who have taken steps so that is unlikely to happen. As for the poor, they have taken no steps and have no understanding about what the hell is happening and are extremely unlikely to ever expend energy or take intelligent risks to change things, which is exactly why they are poor in the first place.

Fortunately, we still have a nominal democracy. The question is, will people use their vote-power?

No poor person even needs to take any risk at all. Al they need to do is vote for people who will represent them. And the vote will have power at least until the vote loses its anonymity and guards with machine guns enforce who will vote and who will be voted for.

Democracy smells like ... freedom.

Were your parents border jumpers? I can't account for your hatred of America, and Americans, any other way. If so, you would be a prime example of why border jumpers should not be allowed to reside here.

Fortunately, we still have a nominal democracy. The question is, will people use their vote-power?
Quote:

On the other hand, the government (or even unions) can scare the living hell out of rich people, making the rich jump and do tricks or else lose their wealth. That is very obvious to the wealthy, who have taken steps so that is unlikely to happen.
Up until Trump, that is.
Quote:

As for the poor, they have taken no steps and have no understanding about what the hell is happening and are extremely unlikely to ever expend energy or take intelligent risks to change things, which is exactly why they are poor in the first place.
No poor person even needs to take any risk at all. Al they need to do is vote for people who will represent them. And the vote will have power at least until the vote loses its anonymity and guards with machine guns enforce who will vote and who will be voted for.

Democracy smells like ... freedom.

If you had started at the bottom of the economic ladder, like I did, and rose to top rung (that is me, again) you won't be writing bromides about how to raise the living standards of the bottom 50%. For now the American government will only move things like the minimum wage upwards a tiny bit because almost nobody who earns in the region of the minimum wage will act unfailingly sensible about it. The poor won't confront their boss for a raise because of fear of being fired. The poor won't join a union to confront the boss because they fear union bosses. The poor won't vote out a politician who doesn't support $15/hour.

Democracy does not work well when half the voters are paralyzed with fear of real world confrontation (not just confrontations that go on in secret ballots cast once every four years) and are obviously chickens: fearful of their bosses and the rich and running around in circles squawking endlessly, accomplishing nothing more than watching a great deal of TV and posting on fff.net.

I've noticed at work that when given a new task, Trumptards' minds go blank unless the task is similar to what they are familiar with, while Libtards understand after being told once. Why are Trumptards like that? It is not a mystery, but a Trumptard cannot be enlightened and cannot accept warnings to avoid the dead end paths their minds habitually follow. So sad for them and so annoying for their co-workers who take up the slack left by the Trumptards.

Oh, SECONDRATE has flat-out posted that he hates Americans, more than once. Haven't you noticed?

And he ALWAYS defends illegal aliens* over American citizens. They work harder, produce more money (for him), are more honest (except, of course, when then jump the border) and are more deserving in every way than Americans, who are lazy, stupid, entitled, dishonest, and must be fired because he doesn't like them and their opinions. At least. according to SECONDRATE.

*BTW, "illegal aliens" is a legal term, not a pejorative one. "Refugee" is ALSO a legal term with a specific meaning. I just love how SECONDRATE tried to present one as the other.
Thanks for lying, SECONDRATE! It's nice to know there are some things we can always count on!

I have noticed that Signym has written that many times, but Sig didn't get that from me, unless Sig thinks Trumptards are the only real Americans. Trumptards, at least in Texas, are gullible fools. I've always had disdain for fools going back to the Vietnam War where I was the fool for volunteering. There is reason to believe, looking at the entire nation, that all Trumptards are as easily fooled as they are in Texas:

Some Republican voters said their party supported policies like expanding Medicaid, which it has opposed. Winter notes that this dynamic has been around for some time:

This is a long-running trend, of voters, especially Republican voters, denying the extremism of the positions that the party holds on questions of political economy. Matthew Yglesias, formerly of Vox, terms this phenomenon “the politics of incredulity.” For him, such voters are a major reason why these conditions persist. He argues “voters find [the Republican Party’s position on economic issues] so outlandishly bad that they’ll only believe someone espouses them if you can convince them first that the person in question is a heartless monster.”

For Republican voters in particular, Yglesias adds: “Consequently, people who align with Republicans on broad values themes — whether opposition to abortion rights, love of guns, patriotism, or panic at the thought of a diversifying country — find it simply not credible that their champions are actually running on a politically toxic agenda that would clearly lose elections.”

I feel like trolling the Trumptards. Biden is positively for gun control. All the Trumptards I know are positively against. The Onion has remarks:

‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens

BOULDER, CO — In the hours following a violent rampage in Colorado in which a lone attacker killed 10 individuals and injured several others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Monday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place. “This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said Kansas resident Andrew Thompson, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations. “It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep this individual from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what they really wanted.” At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past eight years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”

For every rich person there are 99 poor people. Or, maybe a better way is to explain is that for every 2,000,000 rich there are 198,000,000 poor. BUT THE POOR REFUSE TO ACT TOGETHER, EVEN THOUGH THEY VASTLY OUTNUMBER THE RICH. Obviously the rich understand how to signal to one another what is best for themselves. And the rich know how to form alliances to protect their wealth. The poor haven't even started to master either skill, most likely because a poor person who understands the skills uses what he knows to join the rich while the rest of the poor are satisfied by watching a lot of TV and playing on their phones.

Can Joe Biden Pass Anything More This Year? by Kevin Drum
March 23, 2021 – 12:11 pm

As far as I know, the following two things are true:

1) Democrats don't have the votes to break a Republican filibuster.
2) Democrats don't have the votes to eliminate the filibuster.

Biden has zero chance of passing a huge spending bill that includes huge tax increases. He has zero chance of passing a huge new voting law. He has zero chance of passing anything. And yet the conversation surrounding these bills continues to have a sort of fairy-land tone that, hey, maybe Biden can negotiate with good-for-nothing Republicans to get some of this stuff passed.

I love Democracy, but to be technical, what America has is government by representatives. It is not even approximately a Democracy when the representatives, whether Presidents, Senators or Representatives cannot be yanked out of power within a week of making an insane blunder. Instead, years pass before the voters can pull power away from a nut like Trump or a goofball Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. The kind of nonsense from those two, which goes unpunished, proves America is a poorly designed government by representatives, one which continuously malfunctions with ridiculous deadlocks and bizarre stalemates. It's as if the government has the worst case of schizophrenia in medical history. When schizophrenia is active, symptoms can include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, trouble with thinking and lack of motivation.

The GOP’s Long-Game Plan to Thwart Biden’s Agenda Is Already in Action

A lawsuit filed against the stimulus bill shows how Republicans will use the Supreme Court, the one branch of government they have left.

Last week, Ohio’s attorney general filed a lawsuit against the Treasury Department challenging the landmark recovery legislation just passed by Congress, the American Rescue Plan, or ARP. The lawsuit is somewhat technical, focusing on a provision that prevents states receiving direct funds from the bill from reducing their net tax revenues over the next three years. This essentially means that the federal government intends to provide funds to share the burden of pandemic revenue loss, rather than give states free money for tax cuts. The day before Ohio filed its suit, 21 other GOP attorneys general sent a letter to Secretary Janet Yellen threatening to sue if the provision on tax revenues was not narrowed. Republicans are honing in on this as a part of the bill that they might be able to attack.

In defense of the provision, the Treasury Department has argued that such “reasonable conditions are used all the time,” and pointed out that the law does not in fact prohibit tax cuts. Rather, it requires that states not use the appropriated money to offset revenue losses from tax cuts. Substantively, the Treasury Department is right—the bill deploys the spending power, which has long been considered Congress’ least restricted power. Nevertheless, the Supreme Court limited this power when it struck down the mandatory Medicaid expansion in the Affordable Care Act, and it could take the same aggressive approach here. In other words, this lawsuit raises issues that an opportunistic conservative judiciary could use to limit the power of the federal government, a difficulty the Biden administration is likely to face again and again.

To understand the lawsuit, it’s worth considering the relevant conditions attached to the appropriation. First, states can only use the funds in certain ways, like filling fiscal shortfalls, investing in infrastructure, or aiding those affected by the pandemic. A state must also certify that it requires the funds to carry out these activities. And second, states receiving funds cannot reduce their net tax revenue for three years. The logic between these conditions should be clear—if a state can’t fill these gaps with its own revenue, surely it can’t afford to reduce revenue either.

But that is basically what the GOP governors are requesting—that states be allowed to use federal funds to pay for state tax cuts. And their legal arguments are tailor-made for a judiciary hostile to the federal government.

The bill doesn’t prohibit tax cuts. Instead, it requires—as a condition for choosing to accept aid—that states do not affirmatively choose to decrease net tax revenues. Governors still have policy control over the tax side of their balance sheet: Any number of tax cuts could be passed so long as they were balanced out by increased revenue elsewhere.

It’s possible that this lawsuit goes nowhere and the substantial costs of litigation for both sides deter further action. But regardless of what happens, the GOP will surely launch more legal attacks on the federal spending power. With the GOP shut out of the presidency and both houses of Congress, it will turn to the branch of government where it still exerts firm control: the judiciary. This case symbolizes a core challenge for the Biden administration: designing policy that can withstand a conservative legal onslaught.

Jeezus, you're even stupider than Biden*.

The most revolutionary part of President Joe Biden’s agenda so far is his focus on a constituency that doesn’t write whiny op-ed columns, doesn’t vote, doesn’t hire lobbyists and so has been neglected for half a century: children.

For half a century as other countries were investing in children, the United States was stiffing them. Today one of our saddest statistics is this: American children ages 1 to 19 are 57 percent more likely to die than children in other rich countries.

Some of those kids die because the United States doesn’t provide universal health care to children — only to senior citizens, who vote and thus are a priority. Some die because the United States tolerates some of the highest child poverty rates in the industrialized world. And some die because the United States just doesn’t have programs to support children that are routine in Canada and Europe.

So the most historic part of the Biden agenda, to me, is a determined effort to invest in America’s kids and reverse decades of child neglect. Just as Franklin Roosevelt revolutionized conditions for the elderly by instituting Social Security, Biden may be able to do the same for children.

Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan included monthly child allowances and other elements that other countries have used to reduce child poverty. A Columbia University study estimated that these programs, if sustained, could reduce child poverty by about half.

They can take my property tax money and redistribute it to give the kids healthcare instead of schooling. They charged me last year for the school anyhow and didn't actually teach kids anything with the money.

Who do you think you're kidding, meathead?

Per person personal health care spending for the 65 and older population was $19,098 in 2014, over 5 times higher than spending per child ($3,749) and almost 3 times the spending per working-age person ($7,153).

You said your expenses per year are $3,500. If you spent nothing on your food or electricity or whatever, $3,500 all in property taxes isn't enough to pay for even one child's healthcare. Your offer is too small and is rejected, you goddamn fucking worthless Trumptard.

There are about 100,000,000 childless Americans. But Biden will never ask for a tax exemption so that the childless don't pay for other people's children's education and healthcare. Could you imagine a special income tax deduction from Biden for how many children you do NOT have? I have 4 children. With a Biden tax cut for not having children, the Federal government would owe me $millions for all my children who were never born. How about the taxes for those men who women find undesirable? No tax deduction for them!

There is big difference between having whiny, dumb kids such as Trump has, what is it? a dozen if you count the illegitimate little Trumps, versus 4 kids who are curing cancer and neurosurgeons. They got that from their mother, not from me. My contribution was an immune system that is as good as humans have and a unibrow that they pluck out. They pluck mine, too, because they don't want a father that looks like Neanderthal Man.

The reason Biden is popular is no secret: He does popular things on important issues

Biden's positive rating on handling the coronavirus is at 72% in the ABC News/Ipsos poll. That's the highest it's ever been in that survey. The same respondents give him a 75% approval on distributing coronavirus vaccines specifically.

Indeed in poll after poll (including CNN/SSRS' poll), Biden gets an overwhelmingly high approval rating on the coronavirus.

Likewise, Biden's Covid relief package that he signed into law earlier this month has polled well in poll after poll. In the ABC poll, Biden's approval rating on the economic recovery is at 62%. This is quite similar to the 61% who favored the relief package in CNN's March poll.

Schumer eyes obscure maneuver to pass Biden's infrastructure bill

As Congress pursues President Biden's ambitious legislative agenda, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is mulling the use of an obscure procedural maneuver that would allow for the president's massive infrastructure bill to pass without any Republican votes. Mr. Biden is set to introduce the first part of his two-pronged infrastructure package on Wednesday.

The only jobs you'll get from UBI is stocking shelves and importing stuff from China. By then, prices will be out of sight because there will be "too much money chasing too few goods" (the classic definition of inflation).

Unless the USA starts manufacturing again, you can give up the hope of ever getting a meaningful job.

The history of the last Great Depression was interesting, and you should learn from it.

FDR started his "pump priming" with infrastructure projects and handouts (as I recall, oatmeal and prunes were high on the list) to modest effect, but was halted a couple of years in by a Congress concerned about the exploding deficit. So there was a SECOND downturn. This was in an environment where the Federal government started out with a balanced budget, not a $20 trillion dollar deficit.

As FDR found out, "infrastructure investment" only goes so far in restarting an economy because without continued economic "pump priming" his recovery fizzled.

In FDR's case, what saved the economy was World War II. THAT was something that everyone could agree needed unprecedented amounts of money and unprecedented amounts of manufacturing ... tons of steel for tanks, tons of copper for the war, (one year there was such a shortage of copper they made steel pennies. You can still collect them today.) nylon (a newly-developed fiber to replace silk) for parachutes, nitrate for munitions, even railcar wheels for transportation. Men were sent off to fight, women were brought into the workforce ("Rosie the Riviter") and suddenly everyone had a job.

In Biden's* case, once the infrastructure is built out ... then what?

Infrastructure may distribute electricity better, or make transportation easier, or make the nation less fossil-fuel dependent, or restore a degraded environment, but that's just spinning your wheels unless the infrastructure is put to purpose.

As I posted in another thread, Trump was trying to split Russia from China (maximum pressure on China, less on Russia). Biden* is going to try to split China from Russia by easing up on China and trying to welcome them back into the fold. That's my guess, anyway.

Whether China will be taken in by this gambit is anyone's guess. But my guess is that they'll use the situation to get maximum benefit from the USA without ever really splitting from Russia.

OK for those not keeping up with the news... Zelenskiy started shelling the Donbas across the line of contact, brought a bunch of troops and equipment to the front line, and started huffing and puffing and make noises. So Russia brought 50,000 troops to the Ukraine/ Russian border, Lavrov had some blunt conversations with Merkel and Macron, and their top General (Gerasimov?) had a deep conversation with Mark Milley, and apparently Zelenskiy is now being urged to back down.

Another war, avoided for the time being!

Seems my predictions were right about this. Didn't take long for you to jump right on board with the IDs for work, huh?

Well, I don't think "the government" is going to frog-march you into the vaccination center. It will be businesses that will require it before you can get a job, or ... anything. Not because "gubmint" told them so but because they want their customers back.

So are you and the people you claim are on your side going to burn down the nearest Walmart, or Walgreens, like Antifa/BLM?

Good luck with that.

Frankly, I don't care whether you get vaccinated or not. I got mine, and I feel fine. And safer than before. And if there are anti-vaxxers running around with their hair on fire, so what? Not my problem. Your choice. YOUR problem.

So, do you suppose we can start talking about Biden* now?

Democrats finally have a chance to remake the economy the way they've hoped for decades

For decades, Democrats and their economic advisers have agreed: broadly-shared growth requires more government investment. They've just lacked the power to invest.

The scale of his proposals reflects pent-up demand that years of thwarted ambition have produced. Actions to curb income inequality and boost middle-class wages were already at the center of Democratic debates before the last year brought them into even sharper relief.

"The pandemic just blew it all wide open," observed Cecilia Rouse, who chairs Biden's Council of Economic Advisers. "The opportunity cost of not doing anything has become extremely obvious."

The $2.25 trillion American Jobs Plan Biden outlined last week was just the start. It invests in transportation, manufacturing, schools, broadband, water systems, care-giving services and energy transformation to curb climate change.

You're a hypocrite.

You have no problem with businesses raping people with a needle, but you DO have a problem with businesses curbing the freedom of speech.

Hypocrite. Just like Second.

"Raping people with a needle"?

Seriously?

How is this any different than the measles vaccine?

MEASLES is ALSO highly contagious. Just like Covid-19, there is a very small chance of actually dying from measles, and yet, the measles vaccine is required for children to attend school (at least, in CA). Your child needs a MEDICAL exemption from the vaccine, nd after the measles outbreak here in SoCal a few years a go, they got pretty serious about making sure that the medical reason passed medical muster, not just some bogus scrip written out by a friendly family doctor.

Tell me how this is different, and why you accept vaccines for measles, mumps, rubella, polio etc. but not this one.

And since this is NOT being driven by the Biden* administration, tell me why we should be talking about it in this thread.

Biden Plan Spurs Fight Over What ‘Infrastructure’ Really Means

The early political and economic debate over President Biden’s $2 trillion American Jobs Plan is being dominated by a philosophical question: What does infrastructure really mean?

Mr. Biden pushed back on Monday, saying that after years of calling for infrastructure spending that included power lines, internet cables and other programs beyond transportation.
