Hubby brought to my attention an article which has a very interesting interpretation - one that I never considered even tho in retrospect it should have been obvious to at least consider this as a possibility:

The power dynamic in the Middle East has changed. Turkey was part of the Obama/CIA's "Assad must go" strategy. They served as a transshipment point of arms from Libyan jihadists to Syrian jihadists, and provided an open border for al Qaeda/ISIL proxies, sold their oil and took a cut. (These proxies were paid in Saudi dinars and hopped up on Saudi-supplied meth. Saudi dinars were a medium of exchange in Raqqa.)

Anyway. After the attempted coup in Turkey - which Erdogan is convinced was fomented by the CIA - and the attack on the Turkish lira - Turkey took a decided turn away from the Saudi project and cozied up to Russia.

Saudi Arabia - having lost a partner in the anti-Assad/anti-Iran project, openly allied with Israel. But because of the Khashoggi murder, Saudi has had to rethink its strategy and has suddenly turned its attention to Turkey as the most important regional danger, not Iran. Supposedly Israel has also turned in that direction. The thinking is that Iran's power is fragile, but Turkey's is more substantive.

It's an interesting thought. What this might mean is that Saudi Arabia and Israel might be fighting a "two front" proxy/ hybrid war - one against a Sunni nation which desires to reestablish its caliphate, and the other against the presumed Shia crescent.
