True COVID-19 global death toll is likely 2 to 3 times higher than official count of 3.4 million, warns WHO
Last Updated: May 21, 2021 at 7:41 a.m. ET
The number of global deaths caused by the coronavirus-borne illness COVID-19 is likely far higher than official numbers suggest, as all countries are struggling to provide accurate statistical models and counts, the World Health Organization said Friday.
The agency’s annual “state of the world’s health” assessment presented in its World Health Statistics report for 2021, found that as of Dec. 31, 2020, the true number of global COVID deaths was at least 3 million, or 1.2 million more than the 1.8 million officially reported at the time. www.who.int/data/gho/publications/world-health-statistics
For weeks now, India COVID patients have been dying in ambulances while waiting for hospital beds and for oxygen. Officials have found bodies washing up on the banks of the Ganges River, raising concerns that poorer people who can no longer afford costly cremations are dumping bodies there.
China, where the virus was first discovered late in 2019, has had 102,822 confirmed cases and 4,846 deaths, according to its official numbers, which are widely held to be massively underreported. China, with a population of 1.39 billion, has fewer deaths, according to its official numbers, than Ireland, with a population of just 4.9 million. Ireland’s official death toll is 4,941.

Vaccines have been met with suspicion and hostility for as long as they have existed.
“Vaccine hesitancy has less to do with misunderstanding the science and more to do with general mistrust of scientific institutions and government,” says Maya Goldenberg, a philosophy expert at the University of Guelph, Ontario, who studies the phenomenon.
“The reasons people have hesitated reflect the cultural anxieties of their time and place,” Goldenberg says. People worried about toxins arising during environmentalism in the 1970s and people in countries steeped in civil war have perceived vaccines as government weapons.
18th Century - Smallpox vaccine sets the stage around the globe
In a way, anti-vaccination attitudes predate vaccination itself. Public vaccination began after English physician Edward Jenner learned that milkmaids were protected from smallpox after exposure to cowpox, a related virus in cows. In 1796, Jenner scientifically legitimized the procedure of injecting people with cowpox, which he termed variolae vaccinae, to prevent smallpox. However, variolation — which staved off serious smallpox infections by triggering mild infection through exposure to material from an infected person — dates back to at least the 1000s in Asia, Africa and other parts of the world. In some cases people inhaled the dried scabs of smallpox lesions or rubbed or injected pus from smallpox lesions into a healthy person’s scratched skin.
About 1 to 2 percent of people — including a son of Britain’s King George III in 1783 — died from the procedure, far fewer than the up to 30 percent who died from smallpox. Benjamin Franklin rejected variolation, but later regretted it when smallpox killed his youngest son. Onesimus, an enslaved man in Boston, taught the procedure to Puritan minister Cotton Mather, who in turn urged doctors to inoculate the public during a 1721 smallpox outbreak. Many refused, and Mather faced hostility: A small bomb was thrown through his window. Reasons given for avoiding variolation — particularly that it was unnatural to interfere with a person’s relationship with God — were the seeds of later anti-vaccination attitudes.
19th Century - The first vaccination laws kindle resistance
In 1809, Massachusetts passed the world’s first known mandatory vaccination law, requiring the general population to receive the smallpox vaccine. Resistance began to grow as other states passed similar laws. Then the U.K. Vaccination Act of 1853 required parents to get infants vaccinated by 3 months old, or face fines or imprisonment. The law sparked violent riots and the formation of the Anti-Vaccination League of London. Vaccine resisters were often poor people suspicious of a forced medical intervention since, under normal circumstances, they rarely received any health care. Anti-vaccination groups argued that compulsory vaccination violated personal liberty, writing that the acts “trample upon the right of parents to protect their children from disease” and “invaded liberty by rendering good health a crime.”
Anti-vaccination sentiment grew and spread across Europe until an 1885 demonstration of about 100,000 people in Leicester, England, prompted the British monarchy to appoint a commission to study the issue. The resulting 1896 report led to an 1898 act that removed penalties for parents who didn’t believe vaccination was safe or effective. The act introduced the term “conscientious objectors,” which later became more commonly associated with those who refuse military service on religious or moral grounds.
Across the Atlantic, most U.S. residents had embraced Jenner’s cowpox protective, leading to a precipitous drop in smallpox outbreaks. But with fewer outbreaks, complacency set in and vaccination rates dropped. As smallpox outbreaks resurfaced in the 1870s, states began enforcing existing vaccination laws or passing new ones. British anti-vaccinationist William Tebb visited New York in 1879, which led to the founding of the Anti-Vaccination Society of America. The group’s tactics will sound familiar: pamphl

Hey TWO, have you noticed how those who jump up and down proclaiming they have a right to, spend a vast amount of time trying to deny others of their right too.
They’ll say I have the right to not wear a mask but the store owner doesn't have the right to require one. Or, I have the right to not take the vaccine, but business do not have the right to require those who frequent their business to have gotten it.
It’s incredible how ignorant they are, don’t you agree?

Wow. Talk about the ignorant calling others ignorant....
Corporations do not have those protections under the Constitution.
Let's list the other mandates the government has enforced on businesses in the past again, shall we?
1. Minimum Wage.
2. Equal Opportunity Employment.
3. 4 hours for a break, 8 hours for a lunch.
4. Child Labor Laws.
5. Overtime after 40 hours a week.
6. Worker's Compensation.
7. Family Medical Leave.
8. OSHA.
9. Whistleblower Protection.
10. Not having to piss in a fucking bottle while delivering packages and sitting on a pressure sensitive seats that let the CEO know exactly where you are and how often you're in that seat.
Are you arguing that a business owner should be able to ignore any of these as well then Ted?
Because that's what it sounds like your argument is.

. . . 548,000 out of 250 million unvaccinated people were hospitalized vs. 2,000 out of 50 million vaccinated people.
This means that about 0.22% of the unvaccinated population ended up in the hospital with COVID-19 compared to 0.004% of the vaccinated population. That's a difference of 55:1.
In other words, if you are unvaccinated, your odds of getting a case of COVID-19 serious enough to require hospitalization are 55 times higher than they are if you get the vaccination.
Why such a big difference? There are two factors. First, the vaccines prevent infections by a factor of about 10-20:1. Second, if you are infected, the vaccines help to prevent you from getting a serious case. Put those two things together, and you get the 55:1 difference in serious infections.

Covid-19 vaccines have finally given the US an opportunity to claim a global healthcare success. Today, the country announced that it has fully vaccinated half its population, the first large country to do so. Only Israel, whose population is just over 9 million, Seychelles (population: 100,000), and San Marino (33,000) can boast a higher percentage.

That was a problem solved by convincing employees' mothers to move closer to their children so that Grandma could watch the Grandchildren while Mommy and Daddy worked for Mr. second, who didn't shut down for even one second. I am thankful for the vaccinations because now I don't have to pay the Grandmas' mortgages and miscellaneous expenses, since they've gone home and the grandchildren are back in daycare.

Methodist Hospital employees sue over vaccine requirement, citing violation of Nuremberg Code
by Robert Downen, Updated: May 28, 2021 2:55 p.m.
In a lawsuit filed Friday in Montgomery County District Court, 117 Methodist employees allege the rule violates their rights under the Nuremberg Code, a set of medical ethics standards that were created in response to Nazi atrocities during World War II.
They allege that, because the three major vaccines have only been approved for “emergency use” by the Federal Drug Administration, they should not be required to take them in order to work for the healthcare provider.
The hospital employs about 26,000 people total, spokesperson Patti Muck said.
The plaintiffs are being represented by Jared Woodfill, a prominent attorney and former chairman of the Harris County GOP who has launched numerous legal challenges related to the pandemic, including a ban on in-person worship services last year.
Woodfill accused the hospital of forcing employees to be “human guinea pigs as a condition for employment.”
He also took issue with marketing materials in which he said the hospital noted its vaccine policy. Woodfill said that shows the hospital’s policy is rooted in financial interests, and accused Methodist CEO Marc Boom of “putting profits over employees to promote Methodist.”
Woodfill said the plaintiffs include some nurses, but that most are not healthcare providers. None are doctors, he said.
In a statement, Boom said 99 percent of Methodist’s 26,000 employees have met the requirements for the hospital’s vaccine rule, and said vaccines are part of the “sacred obligation” required of health care workers.
“It is unfortunate that the few remaining employees who refuse to get vaccinated and put our patients first are responding in this way,” Boom said. “It is legal for health care institutions to mandate vaccines, as we have done with the flu vaccine since 2009. The COVID-19 vaccines have proven through rigorous trials to be very safe and very effective and are not experimental.”

The Nuremberg Code and its impact on clinical research
This written document established 10 ethical principles for protecting human subjects. The Nuremberg Code is one of several foundational documents that influenced the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
The first trial conducted under the Nuremberg Military Tribunals in 1947 became known as The Doctors’ Trial, in which 23 physicians from the German Nazi Party were tried for crimes against humanity for the atrocious experiments they carried out on unwilling prisoners of war.
The 10 ethical principles are listed at https://www.massdevice.com/the-nuremberg-code-and-its-impact-on-clinic

Because if not law, then Nuremberg doesn't apply in the courts.

Quote:Nuremberg does apply in the courts. In a civil trial, the plaintiffs' lawyers don't spend much of their time reading out loud from the law books. Instead, that GOP Chairman, who is also a lawyer, would be reading the Nuremberg Code to a jury in order to persuade them. Then the lawyer for Methodist Hospital would persuade the jury that his esteemed colleague who is suing the hospital is misunderstanding the meaning of the Code. There will probably be an expert witness to explain the Code, but you can read it yourself and come to your own understanding of its meaning:

Just about any judge would be fascinated by the Nuremberg code and would allow it to be used in a trial, assuming the GOP Chairman actually had a point he was making other than that all Democrats are Nazis, as the Nuremberg Code says they are.

The newspaper revised a February 2020 story with the original headline "Tom Cotton keeps repeating a coronavirus conspiracy theory that was already debunked" as top public health experts have begun taking a more serious look at the origins of the coronavirus.
"Earlier versions of this story and its headline inaccurately characterized comments by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) regarding the origins of the coronavirus. The term 'debunked' and The Post’s use of 'conspiracy theory' have been removed because, then as now, there was no determination about the origins of the virus," reads the Post's correction.
The new headline of the story reads "Tom Cotton keeps repeating a coronavirus fringe theory that scientists have disputed."
In the meantime, how many people were banned off of the various social media platforms for posting about it?

Haunting lessons from 40 years of fighting AIDS
The first official report that described AIDS was published in 1981, just as President Ronald Reagan settled into office. While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) worked tirelessly to elucidate the dimensions of the disease, the White House response was extremely slow, suggesting a profound lack of interest in the fate of the thousands of young, homosexual men. In 1984, Larry Speakes, Reagan’s press secretary, responded to a question about Reagan’s view of AIDS by stating, “I haven’t heard (Reagan) express concern.”
Reagan waited four years into the epidemic – and months after his reelection – to make any public reference to the disease. A senior member of the US Department of Health and Human Services prevented Surgeon General Dr. C Everett Koop from answering any AIDS-related questions at news conferences and he was barred from attending the Executive AIDS Task Force. In 1986, the White House also sought to cut federal funding on AIDS instead of investing in research and developing more programs to confront the problem.
This malign neglect mirrored that of President Donald Trump, who downplayed the severity of Covid-19 and told the American people that “one day … like a miracle it will disappear.” While the White House formed a coronavirus task force, Trump hampered their efforts with tweets and other comments filled with false and misleading information.
When hope vanished that the AIDS epidemic might end quietly, the Reagan team shifted its avoidance strategy. It began to blame foreigners. This approach culminated in a 1987 ban on persons with known HIV infection from entering the United States. It was not lifted until 2009, 22 years later.
The same attempt to distract from the real issue has been tried with Covid-19. In the early days, many sought to blame China – as if establishing a scapegoat would solve anything. (Even though the Biden administration is still reviewing the possibility of a lab leak, there still isn’t conclusive evidence to support that theory.) Later, it became a battle between the states. Last spring, for example, Florida blamed New York for fueling Covid-19 cases. Months later, New York began to point the finger at Florida as a source of the contagion.
The final line of evasion, after Ignoring the problem and pointing fingers fail, is to proclaim that the problem – AIDS, Covid-19 – is wildly overblown or, in the extreme, never existed at all.
This extreme denialism did not overtly take root in the Reagan government though it was – and still is – a core belief of many individuals and even some government leaders. Globally, AIDS denialism has had a tragic impact, causing thousands of deaths because political leaders, particularly former South African President Thabo Mbeki, refused to acknowledge the problem and provided no medical or public health resources.
Similarly, there have been world leaders among extreme minimizers and flat-out deniers whose anti-science attitudes have weakened the public health response to Covid-19 and contributed to their country’s death toll. President Trump’s uncoordinated and at times uncomprehending response seemed to be rooted in his belief that testing, rather than the disease itself, was fueling the epidemic, a form of Covid-19 denialism that undoubtedly contributed to lost American lives.
This type of “hoax-based” thinking has thwarted a broad provision of simple and cheap ways to curb the spread of each virus: for AIDS it was condoms and sex education, for Covid-19 it has been masks, social distancing and now, effective vaccines.
The attitude has also set the stage for our current predicament. It may be impossible to stamp out Covid-19, despite the existence of effective vaccines; similarly, HIV continues to spread despite the fact that effective therapy was introduced nearly 25 years ago. This is not a surprise – pills and shots are never sufficient to stop an infectious disease; people need to know how to prevent transmission and any drugs or vaccines need to be wi

Reviewing the Evidence: Do Lockdowns Reduce the Spread of COVID-19?

My homework assignment today was to figure out if COVID-19 lockdown restrictions have been effective in reducing COVID-19 cases. I spent some time googling around, and what I discovered is that (a) conservative publications all have charts showing there's no correlation, while (b) academic papers all show a positive correlation. Hmmm.
The problem is that there are a million ways to measure this, and it's pretty easy to keep slogging away until you find one that fits your ideology.

Do you honestly believe, even for one second, that Trump would stop posting messages even if he knew he was the only person in the world still reading them?
You know the answer to that question is no. So instead of spreading lies that aren't going to serve any purpose for you, why don't you try to figure out what he's got up his sleeve?

Trumpism is much more than attributes and definitions: Trumpism offers a solution for the deep resentment its followers feel toward other individuals and groups they deem to have somehow hurt them. Such resentments are often focused on ideas such as "progress" or the "future" — in the case of Trumpism, on "political correctness" and "cancel culture" and "liberal elites" who want to tell "people like us" in the "heartland" what to do.

A Trump-size hurdle for Biden’s vax goal
Biden will try to put at least one Covid vaccine dose in the arms of 70 percent of all American adults by Independence Day. Twelve states, according to the White House, have already vaccinated at least 70 percent of their adult population. Every one of them voted for Biden in 2020. States with the lowest vax rate voted for . . . Trump.
Biden pushed back against the politicization of Covid today, telling Americans that getting vaccinated is “not a partisan act.” The science was conducted under a Republican and a Democratic administration, he emphasized, and the first vaccines were authorized under Trump.
The national political divide over vaccines exists inside states, too. While it’s true that the New England states are majority white, educated and liberal leaning — all factors that play into the region’s high vax numbers — there are pockets of rural, vaccine-hesitant populations. In Vermont’s Essex County, 54 percent of voters went for former President Donald Trump in 2020. It’s the only county in the state that Biden lost. And it’s the outlier for vaccine rates in the nation’s most-vaccinated state. Only about 48 percent of the county is fully vaccinated.

In an America that's seeing the Latinos swing for Republicans, I can't imagine that it is wise for you to let corporations tell people that they can't work or shop in their stores when pandemic unemployment benefits are being cut off and three quarters of blacks are refusing to get the shots.
Are you going to tell them that it's for their own good when they can't get a job because you fought against Republicans to ban vaccine passport mandates?

Houston Methodist workers fired for refusing COVID shots
Dozens of cheering supporters gathered outside the Houston Methodist Baytown campus Monday evening as several medical workers who refused to get a COVID-19 vaccine ended their last shifts working for the hospital system.
The act of protest was aimed at what workers said was the hospital’s decision to suspend employees for two weeks without pay and then fire them for failing to immunize themselves.
Jennifer Bridges, a nurse who effectively lost her job at the Baytown facility for deciding not to be inoculated, said the goal was to stage a walkout but that did not go as planned. Participating employees who refused the vaccine’s first dose were told not to gather or linger on the hospital grounds after ending their shift, she said.
“The hospital wouldn’t let us do it,” Bridges said.
She got out of work early, emptied her locker and gathered with others on a grassy medium near the ambulance entrance to the hospital. Bridges fished a paper out of a backpack — a suspension report — that she had been asked to sign. She refused, but the hospital still fired her.

Nope.
Not when you've put on the form the reason for the firing was because the employee wouldn't get the Covid shot and state law now says that they can't do that.
It's too late for them to pretend that's not why they got fired either.
And other places won't be able to do it either and try to hide it when the fired people all come together and realize that they were all fired because of not getting the shot.

Texas (Pending Legislation):
House Bill 1687 would prohibit employment discrimination based on an employee’s COVID-19 vaccination status. Under the Bill, an employer commits an unlawful employment practice if they fire, fail to hire or otherwise discriminate against an unvaccinated individual with respect to compensation or the terms, conditions or privileges of employment. The Bill also prohibits discrimination by labor organizations and employment agencies. A labor organization commits an unlawful practice if it excludes or expels someone from membership or otherwise discriminates against a member because they have not received the vaccine. Similarly, an employment agency commits an unlawful practice if it classifies or refers for employment, fails or refuses to refer for employment, or otherwise discriminates against an individual because they have not received the vaccine. The Bill was referred to the International Relations and Economic Development Committee on March 9, 2021.

The Republican governor, Greg Abbott, on Monday signed into law a measure that prohibits businesses or government entities from requiring proof of vaccination. It's not clear what the new law means for employer mandates, and Abbott's office did not respond to a request for comment.

P.S. I'm not sure if you've managed to catch any stories about it, but less than 25% of blacks in America have been vaccinated. Though I think a LOT more of them swing republican than the media would ever admit to, nobody will deny the fact that a sizable majority vote Democrat.

Not interested in your circular logic.
The fact is, even if I were ever to change my mind on the Covid deaths, they were insignificant.
Meaningless.
Almost non-existant.
But those numbers aren't real. They just stole the other causes of death for people who were going to die anyways.
RIP Flu.

Not true. There are plenty of them to go around on both sides. You just happen to agree with a lot of the stuff the Democrat idiots say, so you don't question their intelligence or their narrative.
Your biased point of view interferes with your critical eye.

Oh. I'm absolutely sure that you're right about that.
I've been trying to get my brother to stop watching Newsmax for well over a year. The only time I've ever seen it is when I'm down visiting him. You wouldn't believe how many ads there are in between segements looking for donations or offering "Lifetime Memberships" for some bullshit club. I'd imagine you see these on other networks as well, but since I don't watch any of them I wouldn't know for sure. Somebody is always out there cashing in on stupidity.
I know you're a smart guy, JO. I just don't understand why you fail to recognize that both sides are equally guilty of nearly every complaint you have about the GOP.

Well... You strike me as the type of guy that doesn't need to be going out on the town and hitting up all the latest concerts and sporting events. And the fact that you're talking about this now leads me to believe that you still haven't made up your mind on getting vaccinated or not.
My non-medical/professional advice to you would be to at least wait it out a while longer.
At the very least, you might as well wait long enough for them to start offering you cash and prizes to get vaccinated. They're already giving people cash, pickup trucks and guns in West Virginia to incentivize people into getting the vaccines.
Don't be a sucker and get jabbed for free.

P.S. The Cash and Prizes actually comes as a surprise to me. That certainly wasn't listed in my 4 Step Plan for getting everyone vaccinated.

10% off what? Your 6-month booster shots you're going to need to take for the rest of your life?
You're already in Illinois man. You can download the app and get a bunch of 10% off coupons by showing your private health information to the barista at Starbucks.

In a series of definitive pieces that earned him the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for explanatory reporting, The Atlantic’s Ed Yong anticipated the course of the coronavirus pandemic, clarified its dangers, and illuminated the American government’s disastrous failure to curb it.
Yong, who has been a staff writer at The Atlantic since 2015, began warning readers about the fragility of America’s pandemic preparedness long before COVID-19 emerged. In 2018, we published his prescient investigation, “When the Next Plague Hits.”

He correctly predicted an interconnected set of dangers: breakdowns in international communication, chronic underfunding of public health, shortages of supplies and scientific expertise at the federal level, President Donald Trump’s inadequacies as a leader.
Here is some of Yong’s groundbreaking work over the past 16 months:

The article compares two Republican governors - DeWine of Ohio and Abbot of Texas. DeWine addressed the pandemic early by instituting a partial lockdown (of large and indoor events) and eventually requiring masks, while Abbot only briefly shut Texas down in March 2020 and didn't do much after that.
So we have a natural experiment to see how these two approaches fared.
According to to DIVOC-91, the total to-date deaths per 100,000 for Ohio is about 165. Meanwhile, in Texas, the total to-date deaths per 100,000 is about 180.
Not a drastic difference, as far as I can tell.
California, my home state, which had a DRASTIC and long-lasting lockdown overmuch of the state and coercive mask mandates, is at 160 to-date deaths per 100,000.
So it seems that total to-date deaths per 100,000 didn't vary much, even tho the timingof the peaks maye have been different from place to place.
The outliers on the high side are New Jersey (300), New York (280), Massachusetts and Rhode Island (260) and Misssissippi and Arizona (245) while the outliers on the low side are Hawaiiand and Vermont (40), Alaska (50), Maine and Oregon (65), Washington and Utah (75).
ALL of the curves, BTW, are still going up, altho at a slower rate.
Seems like there are some lessons to be learned from this, altho I'm not sure what.
Those paper masks barely made a dent. Shutdowns may have flattened the curve but beyond that they didn't affect total deaths much.
So all of those virtuous/evil Democrat shutdowns and maskings and evil/virtuous Republican do-nothings made NO DIFFERENCE. You are both arguing about NOTHING, as far as I can tell.
What I have noticed are a couple of things:
N95s work. I wore one throughout the epidemic every time I went indoors with strangers, and I never got sick despite having three risk factors.
The biggest peaks of new cases and deaths, by far, occurred Nov thru Feb. Some states peaked early, in November, and some lagged and peaked in February, but -withbone exception- they all ocurred in winter. THE VIRUS IS SPREAD INDOORS. We are in a summer lull. Expect to see more new cases and deaths this coming winter.
But the differences in deaths per 100,000, from a low of 40 to a high of 300, MEANS SOMETHING.
What did those low-death states do, or what factors were at play, that caused them to be so low?
So, is anyone willing to set aside all of the pointless partisan wrangling, look at what really happened, and learn some lessons?

So, to get back to real issues here
All viruses are different. Some are airborne. Some are bloodborne. Some are water- and/or food-borne. Some persist on surfaces for long periods of time and can be spread by people touching a surface and then rubbing their eyes. Others are extremely fragile, subject to dryness, sunlight, alcohol etc.
Some are wildly effective at infecting people at low levels of innoculum. Others require a massive exposure to infect the next person.
Measles is SO infectious that health authorities try to locate anyone who just walked thru a common area: like an airport terminal or a line at Disneyland, for two hours afterwards
Covid-19 is clearly airborne. it turns out it's somewhere between the flu/regular cold and measles.
I can understand a month long lockdown while gathering information, amassing resources, and deciding what to do.
But something failed in the information-gathering and policy-making stages. It was way too politicized, with Fauci hiding his links to the American-funded gain if function research being conducted at the Wuhan lab, reversing himself on masking (first he said masks don't help) in order to preserve N95s for emergency services, the CDC bobbling their test rollout when labs all over the nation were ready to test by alternate procedures, and the instant dismissal of HCQ, vitaD, and ivermectin as prophylaxis/ early treatment because 1) Trump mentioned it and 2) it didn't put money in the pockets of big pharma.
Also, the CDC was NOT acting as a central repository of information on infections and small trials of various treatments.
Mistakes were made at all levels but I fault the Federal level the most- not Trump- for acting in a hidebound bureaucratic/corrupt manner of keeping secrets, protecting asses, soloing information, not allowing early flexibility in testing/treatment/information-dissemination, protecting the interests of pandemic bondholders and big pharma, and weaponizing the event against Trump/Republicans/ honest voting and in favor of centralized control and Democrats.
Even now, with over a year's worth of data under our belts, do we know how some states achieved such a low death rate? Or what happened in the states with huge death rates?
Any "lessons learned" for the future?
Or will you still be mired in the Punch n Judy show that is the Dem-Republican tribalism?

It's all about narrative.
Hawaii would have LOVED to tow the Democrat line and give a ton of deaths, but they have a low population for starters, so people would have noticed a bunch of fake deaths. (There are more than twice as many people in Chicago than the entire state of Hawaii).
Plus if they lied and made up a bunch of deaths than nobody would visit and their entire economy would die.

SIX: You seem to forget that the deaths are fake no matter what state they're from.
I should have put "deaths" in quotes for you.
But then you have another reliably blue state - VERMONT- ALSO one of the lowest. Utah, a red state, also low. Red states with low populations ... Mississipi, Arizona ... that would LOVE to see low numbers ... are in the highest tier.
Jeez, SIX, you're not even trying!
Stop picking your data to fit the narrative, for god's sake. That's SECONDRATE'S specialty.
That's EXACTLY what you're doing.
Arizona - Check a 2020 election map.
Utah's biggest politician is Trump hating RINO Romney.
Mississippi is a red state that is struggling for money more than most red states. Mississippi is the obesity capitol of the U.S.
Vermont is a blue state that isn't struggling for money like most blue states are. People in Vermont are downright skinny compared to most of the other states in the country.

Do not “pursue an investigation into the origin of COVID-19 because it would ‘open a can of worms’ if it continued”. This was the instruction given by the US State Department to its investigators over a year ago, as reported by Vanity Fair in a long piece on Lab Leak. State Department investigators were warned against “digging in sensitive places” and repeatedly advised not to open a “Pandora’s box”.
What were they afraid of? They were afraid that someone might reveal that the deadly virus was cooked up by Chinese cooks under American guidance. The hands were Chinese, but the voice was that of Uncle Sam (Gen 27:22). In plain words, if the Chinese altered (Gain-of-Function’ed) the natural coronavirus, they did so on the orders of their American partners and according to their instructions. It is even more probable that the Chinese contribution was secondary, for they do not possess the know-how necessary to alter a virus. Whether it was an accidental leak of a bioweapon or the intentional deployment of bioterror (as Ron Unz expounded), in either case the US is the leading actor in the story.
President Trump threatened to sue Beijing for ten trillion dollars for the Wuhan lab leak. Good idea! But this princely sum should be charged to Washington (or rather New York with its Wall Street) as well as to Beijing. Actually, we didn’t have to wait until the end of May 2021 for this revelation. The basic facts were covered in the viral videos Plandemic and Plandemic II, released almost a year ago and promptly banned. Here you can watch a condensed (7 minutes), yet very convincing version of these two long videos, published last August. The creators conclude their story with ‘a plague on both your houses’ statement: “The US could say China did it, China could say the US did it. And both were right.”
The video (narrated by Dr David E. Martin and released by London real, the company owned by Brian Rose, a Jewish businessman from San Diego, CA, who is closely connected to the City of London) shows that work on Coronavirus began in 1999; the CDC filed a patent application on SARS-CoV in 2004; it was granted in 2007. They kept tampering with the virus for a few years, trying to make it more infectious and more deadly. After gain-of-function research was forbidden by the US government in 2014, it was promptly offshored to Wuhan lab. The research was quietly continued with US grants coming (partly) from the notorious Dr Fauci via the equally notorious Peter Daszak and his EcoHealth Alliance, the beneficiary of $39 million grant from the Pentagon. The Pentagon is a great humanitarian organization known for its love of mankind, right? If they forwarded so much money to Wuhan, they surely had our good in mind. Probably it was out of sheer modesty that they hid the grants, via a web of multiple transactions, passing money from one NGO to another until reaching its final destination in Wuhan. In 2017, the work on weaponising the virus was resumed in the US, while President Trump stopped the grants to Wuhan.
The united media and social networks unleashed their ferocious fact-checkers against the video and its conclusion that the Chinese did it on US orders. And for a long time the story disappeared. But now that the Lab Leak story has been unbanned (thanks to Nicholas Wade’s impactful story) we can check the fact-checkers and find them sorely missing actual arguments. Their main reasoning, beside labelling different opinions “debunked” or “discredited”, was based on an article in Lancet that was commissioned and produced under the guidance of the very same Peter Daszak who admitted (in 2016) that he commissioned and funded Chinese scientists to create a ‘Killer Coronavirus’. Thus the debunkers were debunked and the discrediters were discredited.
The conclusion that the virus was made by Chinese under US instructions was also reached over a year ago, in April 2020, by Tsarfat, a French-Jewish blogger, who claimed that Ralph S. Baric was the man who weaponised the virus in 2015, “and described without any inhibition how he

If I was going to graph this, I'd do it as a linear regression and calculate the r^2 value.
As it is, the most convincing data to me is the upper right-hand quadrant, convincing by its emptiness. The lower left-hand quadrant is also somewhat noticeable by its relatively emptiness, but it's not as dramatic. In all, those 2 quadrants that run counter to expectation (the expectation is: more vaccinations -> fewer cases) account for 17 out of 50 states plus DC.
As for 'red states' v 'blue states', if you believe this map, 13 out of 50 are split control.
Combining datasets:
blue state red state mixed governance
+V = increased vaccinations -V = decreased vaccinations
+C = increased cases -C = decreased cases
How many states adopted blue state or red state vaccination policies? Do blue state vaccination policies give expected blue state results? Do red state vaccination policies give expected red state results?
Blue states are

The graph was originally from the WaPo and I couldn't even pull the url from the website, so I had to go to gibiru to get it from somewhere. It was literally the only link I found. I know this website doesn't auto-load the pix. But at least there's a link!
I picked my terms badly - they should be 'less than average vaccination rates', or 'greater than average vaccination rates'. I hope the + and - signs do convey the ideas I intended at least.
My preferred graph as I indicated would have done a linear regression with regression statistics. Failing that, I was trying to figure out a visually simple way of representing the data, so that it would be easy to see the gist of the trends at a glance.
As for interpreting the data, I've been following the trends here in CA and elsewhere, trying to get a good understanding of the various measures that have been taken, and their effects on cases and deaths. But it's not like a seesaw, with clear action/ effects. It's extremely 'yubby'. Overall one can see that superspreader events - like national holidays - lead to increased cases over time, which leads to increased deaths over time. But looking at CA and a particular example, mask mandates, maybe they kinda' sorta' worked. But compliance rates were low especially in SoCal - in LA City proper estimated to be less than 50% by visually surveying people on the street. And LA City numbers were driving a fair bit of the SoCal numbers. So there was a lot of nominal action statewide, but not actual action in all places. So, tracking various measures and their effects on a population isn't that straightforward.
And the figures from the WaPo graph obviously don't trace all possible inputs into the numbers, just vaccination rates. I think the situation is a lot more complicated than a single input (vax rates). Anyway, I can imagine situations where higher than average vaccination rates are accompanied by increased cases, for example, if there were serious restrictions that were suddenly lifted. Higher than average vaccination rates could still not be sufficient to create herd immunity, but lowered restrictions could create more cases.
I might post this part again for JO specifically, but I did want to point out that the WaPo graph is a past instantaneous snapshot of an ongoing live stream. Those numbers will change; some of them may even have already flipped into a different category. For example, I keep seeing commercials featuring Alaska governor Mike Dunleavy trying to entice people to vacation in Alaska because it has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country; and so by implication it's safe going there. But if AK really is in that category now, that's not what's represented on the WaPo graph.
When it comes to the graph and my post, overall, given the lack of regression and stats, I was really just trying to figure out a way to visually interpret the WaPo graph in a clear, easy to interpret representation.

I keep hearing warp speed. Pfizer didn't participate in that program and they had the first best vaccine. The others followed right behind them. That's due to the seriousness of the virus, the need for a vaccine, and the pharmaceutical companies realizing the money to be made.
These reasons were more responsible for the vaccines fast development. That and the fact that we had already been researching a faster way to create vaccines for covid outbreaks. We saw this coming for decades and we were ready. It’s my opinion if warp speed contributed at all to the development of the vaccine it was in a minimal way.
Trump also dissolved Obamas’ team that was set in place to get ahead of any virus outbreaks globally. They were professionals in the medical field. The team was designed to be a fast reaction squad that could respond to any need that would arise, like a lack of PPE.
Any posts here supporting Trumps efforts are meaningless because history is already writing how badly Trump fucked up. Not just with the virus by with everything he touched. All one need do is reread this thread to see it’s all been said a thousand times.

KIKI: and I chose my words badly. I touched on the link, but all I got was an empty page. So I "allowed" whatever scripts might have been blocked, but no chart appeared.
Anyway, I got your drift. Overall, there does seem to be a correlation between vaccinations and lower "newcases", but there are exceptions because there are so many other factors at play.
Given that only half of the population overall is vaccinated, I do wonder what happens this upcoming winter, because that's not enough for herd immunity. Some percent of that "unvaccinated" group are children under 12, but that still leaves a lot of people available to get sick, and pass it on! Also, they keep looking at the vaccine's effectiveness, and so farave tracked it to six months but for me and a lotof people that means only thru fall. So despite being vaccinated I still wear an N95 to go grocery shopping because there I'm being exposed to 200-300 people indoors, half of whom aren't vaccinated and one or two of whom might be actively sick.
H HAVE stopped wearing a paper mask outdoors. Not because I've been vaccinated but because I've waled my dog every day thru this pandemic and have passed by, and stopped to chat with, many people, and breezes, sunshine, and distance have kept me safe. Also, I'll be scheduling all my regular doctor and dentist visits again.

In March longtime Republican pollster Frank Luntz led a focus group with Trump voters. Many of them stressed that they were not “anti-vaxxers” who opposed all vaccines. Nor were they “COVID deniers.” They acknowledged that the disease was real; many had family and friends who had had it, and some had been ill themselves. But they were suspicious of the federal government and had a sense that science was often oversold. CBS found similar results, reporting that 60 percent of respondents say “scientists have been wrong on the coronavirus most or all of the time” and that mask mandates and social distancing requirements do not help control the spread of the virus. And most of these people are Republicans. Luntz concluded the best approach would not be for Republican leaders to tout the vaccine but for apolitical messengers—a person's own doctor, say, or spouse—to offer facts in an honest, nonpartisan way.
Fair enough, but why do so many Republicans distrust government, including government science, and think scientists are “always getting it wrong”? A large part of the answer is that this is what the party's spokespeople have been saying for 40 years, from the early days of acid rain to our ongoing debates about climate change. It was Luntz himself who, more than 20 years ago, designed the Republican party's strategy to fight climate change by insisting there was no scientific consensus on the issue. It has mostly been Republican governors resisting mask mandates, even when science showed they slowed the spread of COVID-19. And it was, by and large, Republican governors lifting those mandates in the spring, even while Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, begged them not to.
Everyone deserves accurate information to be presented in an apolitical way and to be addressed with respect and not condescension. But the reality is that most of the science that matters most comes from the government or from scientists funded by the government. Until Republican leaders stop telling voters not to trust the government, many of them won't trust science.
