If you put a bunch of these free choice people who refuse to wear a mask and get vaccinated in a room, how many would say they believe in freedom of choice when it comes to abortion? That government should not pass laws taking away people’s right to choose? Do they wear seatbelts, or drive without licenses? Do they even fish without a license?

Do they stop at red lights? Do they teach their children to step out into traffic when the flashing red lights say not to because the government has no right to tell them they cannot?

It is also their right to be stupid and selfish. They need to take a break, calm down and look into a mirror if they dare. If they do the mirror will show them the only person on this earth they care about.

Fuck you, Ted.

If you got a vaccine, what the fuck are you worried about, idiot?

Either it works and you're fine, or it doesn't work and I don't need it. Period.

How are you so stupid?

Jeez. SIX, did you notice that KEY PHRASE that you, yourself, posted??

Strictly speaking, the Constitution limits what the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT can do. It can't even limits what STATES do (*all other powers not enumerate belong to the states*) and the only reason why you have civil rights in your STATE is bc state constitutions are pretty much based on the FEDERAL Constitution.

So, unless you can show that the Federal (or state) governments are requiring businesses to do X,Y, and Z, there is no "Constitutional" crisis.

What we have here in the USA is a classic example of FASCISM. Not the "fascism" that TWITCHY hyperventilated about so often (and mistakenly) but real, actual fascism:

Where the government runs in service to business, and businesses have all the power.

So we see that businesses can search your stuff, invade your home, hijack your communications hardware and software, stifle your free speech, discriminate on the basis of race, hold your savings hostage, and do all of the things that the Federal government CAN'T do.

If there is a "Constititional crisis" it won't be because the these activities are found "unconstitutional" but because people will feel that the Constitution itself is deficient and dosn't protect them from big business.

One BIG step would be to get rid of that "corporations are people, too" interpretation.

Does withholding funds and tax breaks count as "requiring" them to do so? If that doesn't fit your definition, maybe you need to change your definition. They do that ALL THE TIME WITH EVERYTHING.

And turning down any free money in a world of predatory Capitalism and the almighty bottom line is like whacking your own kneecaps with a baseball bat while a pack of hyenas are hot on your tail.

Strictly speaking, NO "Constitutional crisis".

What I refer to - a broadly popular movement to reform the entire Constitution - would be more like a revolt. Calling that a "constitutiona crisis" would be like calling the Civil War a "constitutional crisis".

But frankly, I don't see it getting to that point. There were widespread heavily-attended demonstrations across France about mandatory "passports". Americans can't be bothered.

What I see are (some) states diverging from Federal policy on Covid-19 and border protection. Unfortunately, not on Treasury/Fed money-printing or foreign policy or economic policy.

You don't consider bastardizing and otherwise intentionally misinterpreting the Constitution a Constitutional Crisis?

I'm in disagreement of what your definition of a Constitutional Crisis is.

Because if it doesn't protect people from this, then it's a worthless piece of paper.

And in 2021, that's a crisis.

The "Constitutional Crisis" happened 3 decades ago, with mass drug testing. Just because you didn't understand that point when I first made it doesn't make it untrue.

Since then, we've had a series of Supreme Court rulings that have gradually ruled in favor of so-called 'originalist' 'thinking' ie what they presume the 'framers'

originally meant. And that's been interpreted to mean that your Constitutional rights only apply in regard to what the Federal Government does to you directly. Everything else by anyone else, even the state, is fair game. And now, far down the road as a result of that 3-decade trend, even corporations are people, too, and you can't trample on their rights.

I understand what you do not.

And while some people may be in angst over the situation, legally speaking, the crisis was settled when you were a kid.

I have a history of coming about against drug testing for jobs right on this website, dummy. This is hardly new news.

My point is that you're more than eager to roll over now because you happen to agree with this one.

But just do what the government does and push the responsibility off on the corporations.

Your Masters have taught you well.

Guilting him to guilt them.

Here's the steps, if you missed me talk about them before.

STEP 1: Give the vaccine to the 50 to 60% of people who are terrified of the virus and would do anything to get it.

STEP 2: Give the vaccine to the 15 to 20% of people who are just so f-ing tired of how we've been forced to live the last year that they just want it to go away and will get vaccinated so they can get back to their old lives.

(Steps one and two will have quite a bit of overlap, both in the timeframe and/or like-mindedness.)

STEP 3: Guilt the shit of the remaining people. Not all of them will be guilted into it. But some of them will.

STEP 4: Ruin the lives of people who still refuse. This can be done, and will be done, in a variety of ways. (This can only begin once there is a legitimate surplus of vaccinations without any remaining demand for them).

One of the biggest will be by allowing corporations to force vaccinations otherwise face termination from your job (the article from South Carolina I posted earlier today is actually about a bill being considered in the state to PROHIBIT companies in the state from doing this).

But then there's just the general guilting that will never end until the media stops talking about it. If you haven't been paying attention to the way these things work online the last few years, that guilting will quickly turn to HATE. This is going to make for a very hostile work environment for many people at this point. Imagine the RWED, but in a live office setting... in every workplace around the country. (and with weak-minded, terrified people truly believing that somebody like me is threatening their life by my mere presence in front of them without having had the shots).

If they really want to make the issue bad, they'll start instituting an ID card... maybe even provide you with a handy little lanyard to wear it like a dog collar whenever you leave your home.

Worst case is that when enough people have already gotten it and the rest refuse that the Legacy Media starts referring to those who resist vaccination as Bio Terrorists.

I've pretty much been spot on for the first three steps.

Admittedly, I didn't see handing out a bunch of freebies and doing Lotteries to try to entice people before moving on to Step 4 though.

But we are clearly in Step 3.5 right now, and just as I predicted they're throwing away TONS of vaccines since nobody else wants one.

Is New Zealand is racing to prove me right on the predictions past Step 4 already?

When the news broke, I did what any desk jockey would do: I turned to Facebook to complain.

?‘People who have been vaccinated are protected against serious illness and death,’ I wrote. ‘The vaccines are free and have widely been available since April. Asking vaccinated Americans to mask is meaningless theater and isn’t saving anyone’s life, vaccinated or unvaccinated. Masking and further lockdowns (which are coming to some places) are nonsense. This is not “Trumpian” and it is not COVID denial. I am a liberal and I am tired of COVID panic. I will not comply with any of this.”’

?Maybe that was a little histrionic, but it’s Facebook, after all. If you can’t bloviate like an old man at a bar there, where else can you? My feed erupted with rage heretofore unseen, as though I’d confessed to smothering people’s children in their sleep. The responses ranged from the rather mild ?‘you’re wrong’ and ?‘I disagree with you’, to full-scale CDC propaganda, to medical hearsay that I ignored, to far worse.

‘You got the vaccine to keep from dying,’ someone wrote, later accusing me of ?‘white, male, able-bodied privilege’. ?‘Wear the mask to keep from killing.’

?But, I said. I’m not sick. I’m not killing anyone.

A former neighbor and semi-prominent Austin media personality informed me he was reporting me to Facebook for ??‘misinformation’ and spent a half-hour hassling me to see if my wife shares my ??‘crackpot ideas’. He called me a ??‘big brave online man’ who was ??‘trying to get on Joe Rogan’. I wish! Maybe I’d finally sell some damn books.

There has to be room for those who are slightly left-of-center to criticize COVID policy. I don’t want to make anyone sick. I just want consistent guidance and the ability to live freely and make my own choices. Somewhere along the line, liberals forgot that was something to value.

What does the right mean when it talks about “freedom”? Since the pandemic began, many conservatives have insisted that actions to limit the death toll — social distancing, wearing a mask and now getting vaccinated — should be matters of personal choice. Does that position make any sense?

Well, driving drunk is also a personal choice. But almost everyone understands that it’s a personal choice that endangers others; 97 percent of the public considers driving while impaired by alcohol a serious problem. Why don’t we have the same kind of unanimity on refusing to get vaccinated, a choice that helps perpetuate the pandemic and puts others at risk?

True, many people doubt the science; the link between vaccine refusal and Covid deaths is every bit as real as the link between D.U.I. and traffic deaths, but is less obvious to the naked eye. But why are people on the right so receptive to misinformation on this subject, and so angry about efforts to set the record straight?

My answer is that when people on the right talk about “freedom” what they actually mean is the right of certain people (generally white male Christians) to do whatever they want.

Not incidentally, if you go back to the roots of modern conservatism, you find people like Barry Goldwater defending the right of businesses to discriminate against Black Americans. In the name of freedom, of course. A lot, though not all, of the recent panic about “cancel culture” is about protecting the right of powerful men to mistreat women. And so on.

Once you understand that the rhetoric of freedom is actually about privileged white people, things that look on the surface like gross inconsistency and hypocrisy start to make sense.

Why, for example, are conservatives so insistent on the right of businesses to make their own decisions, free from regulation — but quick to stop them from denying service to customers who refuse to wear masks or show proof of vaccination? Why is the autonomy of local school districts a fundamental principle — unless they want to require masks or teach America’s racial history? It’s all about whose privilege is being protected.

The reality of what the right means by freedom also, I think, explains the special rage induced by rules that impose some slight inconvenience in the name of the public interest — like the detergent wars of a few years back. After all, only poor people and minority groups are supposed to be asked to make sacrifices.

Anyway, as you watch Republican governors invoke “freedom” to escape responsibility for their Covid catastrophes, remember, when they say it, that word does not mean what you think it means.

The same problem showed up after the Civil War. The slave-owners or wannabe owners who started the war claimed they didn't start it. They claimed their rights were violated, their property, slaves, stolen. The President of Confederacy wrote a multi-volume history about how he was right and Lincoln was wrong and that ex-slaves were happier as slaves. Every word coming out of the ex-Confederate states was nonsense and bullshit. Every word coming out of Trumptards' computers is nonsense and bullshit. So many years between the Civil War ending and Trump losing, but crazy, stupid losers never change.

You want it loud and clear?

For the record, IN THIS CASE I'm against mandatory vaccinations because

1) The vaccinations don't do enough to stop transmission but
2) They do a pretty good job of protecting the vulnerable against death

If anything in that calculation were to change, I might change my opinion depending on what other options were available. Yanno, one air pollution district had a "thou shalt not" rule. It was pretty generic. Business was not supposed to disturn the health, repose etc of a community. You'd be all for that, I'm sure. But when it comes to YOUR responsibility not to put people at risk, well, you seem to take that pretty lightly and you seem to want others to ignore it altogther.

But I agree with Signy.

In fact, I'll be even more expansive.

I disagree that corporations and other legal fictitious entities are people.

And I abhor that private and state entities can ignore or remove our Constitutional protections.

But in addition, I agree with mask mandates, yes, even by businesses and employers. It's a long-standing right of property owners. It violates no Constitutional protection. And if you're in their place, it's at their invitation, and on their terms. It's the old 'no shirt, no shoes, no service' mantra.

Furthermore, SHOULD it become necessary to mandate vaccinations, I think it SHOULD come from the federal government.

The head of Florida’s largest hospital association warned that the skyrocketing number of Covid hospitalizations is unlike anything the state has seen before — even as Gov. Ron DeSantis downplays the spike.

The Florida Hospital Association on Monday reported 10,389 Covid-19 hospitalizations, the most statewide during any point in the pandemic. This follows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting over the weekend that the state had more than 21,000 new coronavirus infections on Friday. It was the highest one-day total for Florida, which now makes up roughly one in five new cases nationally.

About 95 percent of those hospitalized are unvaccinated, and Mary Mayhew, the president and CEO of the Florida Hospital Association, said the Delta variant that is sweeping through Florida is infecting young and unvaccinated people and is much different than the previous strain.

“We have to convince 25-year-olds, 30-year-olds that this is now life threatening for them,” Mayhew said during an interview on Morning Joe. “That is not what they saw and what we experienced last year.”

As Florida’s coronavirus infections continue to soar, public health officials and local elected leaders have pressed the DeSantis administration to take more drastic steps to get the virus under control. DeSantis, however, has maintained a strict “no-mandate” approach to the virus, including touting an executive order last week that prohibits school districts from requiring masks in K-12 facilities. He also vowed to fight any cities or municipalities that try to institute Covid restrictions, including mask mandates or lockdowns.

Because the virus isn't doing that.

Such as?

Here - in font so you can't miss it -

As I stated

I'm AGAINST private entities being considered 'people. And I'm AGAINST either private entities or states being able to get around Constitutional protections.

And I'm AGAINST private entities or states mandating the vaccine.

Let me add this too, since it's one of my tenets: I think we need to add a Constitutional amendment that ensures PERSONAL PRIVACY - which means against intrusion by other levels of government, businesses, and individuals; the same way a lot of European governments have amended their constitutions to ensure personal privacy in the age of mass personal electronic and other spying, and data gathering.

Is that, finally, clear enough for you to understand?

But JUST LIKE SIGNY I can imagine that facts may change, to be different from today. It may be some very bad version of this virus, or another future virus. But we might need mandated vaccines, the exact same way we have other mandated vaccines like rabies and mumps and measles.

However, I think it should be at the federal level, not the state, or county. IE in a country-wide epidemic, or international pandemic, the federal government should do it directly, instead of having the government hide behind corporations and states.

SIX, did you somehow misread or skip over important phrases like

"disagree that corporations ... are people"

"abhor that private and state institutions can ... remove our Constitutional protections"

"SHOULD it become necessary [meaning, it is NOT NOW NECESSRY] to mandate vaccinations ..."?

Are you SO determined to be a dickhead that you can't take "YES" for an answer? If you agree with me then you agree with KIKI. I don't see any daylight between our positions. UNDER SOME CIRCUMSTANCES, VACCINE MANDATES MIGHT BE NECESSARY. If OTOH you believe that vaccines should NEVER be mandated under ANY circumstances ... well, then, you're an idiot.

*****

I wonder on what the constitutional authority vaccine mandates would be based.

What if some deadly disease was being carried from state to state? Could the Federal government step in and mandate quarantine and vaccination measures as an interstate issue? Under "promote the general welfare"? That clause could potentially justify a multitude of sins.

I suppose the same could be said for state, county, or city mandates.

On a completely sideways note: Did you ever notice how DIFFERENT county structures are? They don't have legislatures (unlike city councils, state legislstures etc) altho they DO have courts. The elected officials are administrators, in essence, not presidents or mayors. Except in CA where measures may be taken directly to vote, there's no legislative input on county measures, altho counties do, indeed, levy taxes.

There have been city, county, and state public health departments ever since when.

At least four cities claim to be the first health department in the United States. The city of Yakima, WA claims to be the oldest in the nation, established in 1911. The city of Petersburg, Virginia, claims it established the first permanent board of health in 1780. The city of Baltimore, Maryland, claims it established the first US health department in 1793. And Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, followed 1794, claiming its Board of Health as "one of the first". Finally Boston, Massachusetts, claims in 1799 it established the first board of health and the first health department, with Paul Revere named as the first health officer.

I think pestilence and plague were always concerns whenever people congregated in crowded permanent settlements. And somebody ended up trying to keep people safe, as a whole.

I'm mostly struck by how towns run themselves. There aren't any D or R or other designations. And even though I served on a city committee for a few years, I'm not really sure exactly how city council members distinguish themselves in terms of why you should vote for them.

SIGNY: 2) Out of all of the things to get exercised about, a vaccination seems on the lower end of priorities.

SIX: Your problem is that you still think this is only about vaccination.

YOUR problem is, you think everyone is stupid unless they reflexively turn everything "they" say 180deg around. But that's as mistaken as believing everything "they" say. In both cases, your thinking is defined by what "they" say.

"They" don't need a pandemic to stampede people into compliance. If they don't have a real event to weaponize (911) they'll make one up (RUSSIA!RUSSIA!).

"Never let a good crisis go to waste" - Rahm Emanuel (Barack Obama's former Chief of Staff)

But just because they're good at weaponizing events and turning them into crises - or even whipping them up out of thin air - doesn't mean that events, or even crises, don't exist. The problem is separating out the (few) grains of wheat from the (much) chaff thrown into the wind. If you want to know what's REALLY going on, you have to insist on EVIDENCE. REAL evidence. And blanket denial isn't evidence. Neither is fear-mongering, and you're doing both.

The pandemic is just one tiny instance of our fascist - and I mean truly fascist- corporate/centralized/globalist's drive to control everything.

Focusing on vaccinations is not only self-defeating (bc you will drive away potential allies who have real reason to worry about getting sick with Covid-19, such as myself) ....

You will fail to see the truly awful scope of what's being done, which should horrify anyone at this point, if they've been paying attention.

Forest and trees, yanno?

You're fighting the wrong fight. It's like the anti-war protesters who put so much effort into demonstrating in 1968. By 1975 they had turned into corporate droids. Don't turn everyone who is concerned about Covid-19 into an enemy because 1) we have real reason to be concerned by being in a vulnerable population and 2) you'll drive away people who fundamentally agree with you.

This is not the hill to die on, and even if you manage to win your quixotic fight against vaccines and masks (and any other measure of self-protection!) nothing else will have fundamentally changed.

The current absolute control of all means of communication by corporate oligopolies and the security state. JO didn't get to his point of paranoia all by himself, he got there bc it was banged into his head 24/7/365 for four years. In a democracy, where people have the right to vote, one of the ways that TPTB stay in power is by manipulating information that reaches the voters.

The totally insecure and corrupted voting system. When disinformation and propaganda fail, you can always rig the vote.

ANY international agreement -free trade or otherwise- that takes away the sovereign rights of our nation.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/04/opinions/de-blasio-require-vaccines-fil
ipovic/index.html

Quote:

In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio correctly said masking is a secondary concern
when "the whole ball game is vaccination." And he is acting on it, announcing Tuesday
that the city will require proof of vaccination in the form of a health pass for entrance into
gyms, restaurants, and indoor entertainment venues. The city will begin enforcing the program
-- the first of its kind in a US city -- on September 13, he said.

It's a necessary and overdue step. But why aren't more cities and states taking it? And more
importantly: Why isn't President Joe Biden?

Quote:

The latest example is New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who on Monday said that he is asking
private restaurants and bars to require proof of vaccination for entry. He's right -- they
should. But why place the burden of creating sensible public health mandates on private
businesses? Cuomo is, after all, the governor. If he believes, as he says, that it is in the
"best interests" of these businesses -- and ostensibly the public -- to have inessential
indoor events reserved for the vaccinated, why not make that the policy of New York state?

I can't even finish this article. It's so fucking bad.

That's a rarity. I can even make it through most Vox and Salon articles I read.
At least they're usually unintentionally funny.

This dumb bitch actually thinks that calling them "health passes" instead of "vaccine passports" will
make them work.

I bet this no-doubt-woke-as-fuck-dummy doesn't even realize that what she's suggestion means
that almost no black people in New York would have any freedoms at all if it came true.

Or maybe she does and she doesn't care. Democrats are racists after all.

Did you read all of their research personally, or are you reading what the CDC, WHO and John Hopkins tells you are in there?

Have you done any research on whether or not any of that data or those studies are legit science and not politically or monetarily motivated?

Everybody in those organizations has been lying to us about things like where the virus came from since the beginning.

There's not much of a difference.

Not when the US has a dollar tied to Oil and has printing presses running 24/7 and we're giving money to almost everybody else in the world with very little oversight and zero chance anybody is ever going to trace it all.

Has Covid-19 really made you forget about US Imperialism, multi-national corporations that have no loyalty to the US or the US Constitution, or the fact that we're essentially a one-world government at this point with just enough autonomy to give the illusion that this isn't already the case?

Well - AHEM ! - as mentioned previously, employers have the right to demand employees do anything legal as a condition of employment. I'm not saying I support it, but it's a bit hard for me to be outraged about a ship that sailed over 30 years ago.

And schools have always required a certain level of vaccination for attendance. Again, I'm not saying I'm for it in this case, but unless laws are changed substantially, this is a done deal.

Federal workers have a choice - vaccine OR testing.

Finally, healthcare is one area where I might support universal vaccination. One should recognize that the population potentially being exposed is already extremely vulnerable, and that they're in a situation about which they don't have a choice.

But I would think that before vaccination, N95 masks should be a requirement.

*****

China just closed down Beijing because of this "hoax" that you keep insisting on.

If you recall, it was China going thru the expense and effort of building large, "instant hospitals" in Wuhan that - for me - was the "tipping point" between "is this really something, or is this nothing?" Whether they were really a functional response to the virus or a giant publicity stunt didn't matter, because they were responding to SOMETHING that was roiling Wuhan and sickening/killing people.

It is really something. Iran, China, Russia, N Korea, Cuba ... nations for whom no love is lost between them and "the west", and who have absolutely NO interest in being, or appearing to be, weak- economically, socially, politically, heathcare-wise - are ALL responding to this "hoax" in one way or another. If it were truly a "hoax", they wouldn't be participating bc it would only make them look weak.

I remember you posting about that.

Way waaaaaayyy back, I alerted to a disturbance of the force coming over the horizon. I wasn't completely sure it was something, but the way the Chinese numbers and response were escalating literally hour by hour on some days, I thought it had real potential. Anyway, I don't remember if there was a single point that convinced me it was real, and that probably the reporting was far behind the curve. I think it was more a compilation of the various data.

I still wonder about how it is that N Italy (and SoCal) appears to have had an outbreak way before Wuhan. I don't think we'll ever know if that's provably true, and if so, the cause.

A lot of unanswered questions exist, and a lot of tentative information is still to be revised. And then this is a moving story, with new facts and new events all the time.

This story is still very much STEP 4, but after the headline it's not nearly as bad as the
others that I've posted. Hell... they even go out of their way to say they disagree with
requiring vaccinations for essential services like grocery shopping.

Quote:

In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio correctly said masking is a secondary concern when "the whole ball game is vaccination." And he is acting on it, announcing Tuesday that the city will require proof of vaccination in the form of a health pass for entrance into gyms, restaurants, and indoor entertainment venues. The city will begin enforcing the program -- the first of its kind in a US city -- on September 13, he said.

It's a necessary and overdue step. But why aren't more cities and states taking it? And more importantly: Why isn't President Joe Biden?

Quote:

The latest example is New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who on Monday said that he is asking private restaurants and bars to require proof of vaccination for entry. He's right -- they should. But why place the burden of creating sensible public health mandates on private businesses? Cuomo is, after all, the governor. If he believes, as he says, that it is in the "best interests" of these businesses -- and ostensibly the public -- to have inessential indoor events reserved for the vaccinated, why not make that the policy of New York state?

Quote:

I can't even finish this article. It's so fucking bad.

That's a rarity. I can even make it through most Vox and Salon articles I read. At least they're usually unintentionally funny.

This dumb bitch actually thinks that calling them "health passes" instead of "vaccine passports" will make them work.

I bet this no-doubt-woke-as-fuck-dummy doesn't even realize that what she's suggestion means that almost no black people in New York would have any freedoms at all if it came true.

Or maybe she does and she doesn't care. Democrats are racists after all.

Aside from DeBlasio generally being an idiot ...

1) NYC was the COVID-19 epicenter for the US. To this date, NYC alone is the reason for the entire state of NY ranking second for per capita deaths; NYS currently at 278 per 100,000 (a bit behind NJ currently at 300 per 100,000). If NYC were counted by itself, it would blow NJ out of the water for per capita deaths by a factor of 2. And most of this happened in the span of a few short months, from ~03/24/20 to ~06/24/20. Now, maybe in your isolated hinterland you can't appreciate that not every state is like yours, and not everyone's experience is like yours. But the experience of NYC people was more like N Italy, so the residents could possibly have a different perspective than yours. ... And that leads me to to my next point ...

2) If the people of NYC don't like what DeBlasio is doing, they can vote him out. It's their city, and their vote. https://apnews.com/article/lifestyle-business-health-new-york-new-york
-city-02ebaf33bec191fa66c99fc02cf1ef1b
And fortunately, you don't get to impose on them your reality of 'COVID-19 never killed anyone', and you can't vote in their city elections, and you don't get to run their politics. To reiterate: it's their choice.

Capiche?

As for your other 'points', I already addressed them. You must have failed to read. I'm sure that's the reason why you have no rebuttal to my posts at all, not even your usual sourceless claims or ceaseless trolling.

So, SIX, I've been noodling on your reaction and it still seems to me that you're spoiling for a fight bc no matter how many times we AGREE with you, you just keep coming back with more angry accusations and demands.

So here's what I think.

Instead of saying that you're terrified of COVID-19, let's just say you feel threatened. Not by the virus itself .... You've made that abundantly clear, and in your age group and with no responsibility to anyone but yourself, you SHOULDN'T be worried... but you feel threatened by anyone who thinks differently. And, like many people who feel threatened, you've slipped into "flight or fight" mode, and you're lashing out, seeing people as enemies who are actually on your side.

You don't even allow others to take reasonable measures of self-protection
I would ask myself, if I were you, what the root cause of your offthechart reaction is. There must be some "ism" that's causing this. I would love to know what it is.

You need to separate your reactions from Kiki's here. You two don't see completely eye to eye either.

You say that you don't think anybody should be forcing vaccinations on anyone, period. Kiki knows that it's wrong for the government to allow corporations to do so, but then says "oh well... They've been doing it for decades now, so there's nothing that can be done about it. I'm okay with it I guess since it makes me feel safer if everyone has one."

Quote:

You don't even allow others to take reasonable measures of self-protection

Oh? How so?

By all means, wear a mask for the rest of your life. Get an experimental shot and hope it doesn't give you cancer or cause your kids to not be able to have any of their own. Or worse. Do whatever you like.

If you tell me that I can't come to your party unless I'm vaccinated, our friendship is over and/or our family ties are cut. You'd better just not invite me in the first place, hope that I didn't hear about the party from other people, and/or be really good at lying when you tell me that the invite was lost in the mail.

I don't know about ism.

I don't trust a single person in our government on either side. I don't trust the Media. I don't trust big corporations. I don't trust the Medical Establishment. I don't trust Big Pharma.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM have their hands in this.

And whether it be a gain of power or a gain of money or both, they all stand to benefit from it. Every single one of them.

And none of them give a single shit about you or me or the elderly or the children or a single good goddamned one of us. But they'll never miss an opportunity to tell you how much they do.

Instead of saying that you're terrified of COVID-19, let's just say you feel threatened. Not by the virus itself .... You've made that abundantly clear

SIX: You're 100% correct about that one.

SIGNY: and in your age group and with no responsibility to anyone but yourself, you SHOULDN'T be worried...

SIX: That, and the fact that I never bought into any of it in the first place.

You're either living in opposite-land because of an excess of being oppositional to everything, or you're in deep denial.

Quote:

SIGNY: but you feel threatened by anyone who thinks differently. And, like many people who feel threatened, you've slipped into "flight or fight" mode, and you're lashing out, seeing people as enemies who are actually on your side.

SIX: You need to separate your reactions from Kiki's here. You two don't see completely eye to eye either.
You say that you don't think anybody should be forcing vaccinations on anyone, period.

Oh, but I did, and still do, make the exception for medical personnel. Either they do that, or they wear an N95 thru their whole shift.

SIX: Kiki knows that it's wrong for the government to allow corporations to do so, but then says "oh well... They've been doing it for decades now, so there's nothing that can be done about it. I'm okay with it I guess since it makes me feel safer if everyone has one."
KIKI is NOT and has said so many times.
PLEASE, READ WITH COMPREHENSION!

Quote:

SIGNY: You don't even allow others to take reasonable measures of self-protection

SIX: Oh? How so?

You're clearly angry with anyone who masks up or who has gotten the shot. You basically told me, very bitterly, that you"hoped" I didn't regret my decision for our daughter to get the shot because - in your fevered imagination- there are dire consequences and evil conpsiracies around the vaccines. ANY of them, no matter what technology they use and what snippets of viral genome they use.

That's your ignorance talking

Quote:

SIX: By all means, wear a mask for the rest of your life. Get an experimental shot and hope it doesn't give you cancer or cause your kids to not be able to have any of their own. Or worse. Do whatever you like.
More ignorance and fear-mongering.

Quote:

SIX: If you tell me that I can't come to your party unless I'm vaccinated, our friendship is over and/or our family ties are cut. You'd better just not invite me in the first place, hope that I didn't hear about the party from other people, and/or be really good at lying when you tell me that the invite was lost in the mail.
See? You're turning people into enemies who are merely trying to protect themselves and their families. Why are you turning this into such an existential issue?

Quote:

SIGNY: I would ask myself, if I were you, what the root cause of your offthechart reaction is. There must be some "ism" that's causing this. I would love to know what it is.

SIX: I don't know about ism.

I don't trust a single person in our government on either side. I don't trust the Media. I don't trust big corporations. I don't trust the Medical Establishment. I don't trust Big Pharma.

Well, SIX, I have to say: You deserved that lashing. You are constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY, mischaracterizing what KIKI posts. Even when KIKI has REPEATEDLY posted the opposite, you insist on lying about it.
I mean ... WTF??
What kind of bee is buzzing in your bonnet that you would do that?

Well, aside from that...

*****
Bear with me, this is going to be long.

There was a poster here, AURAPTOR ("RAPPY") who was convinced ... CONVINCED, I tell you! ... that Saddam had WMD. Nothing could convince him otherwise. Not even when GWB's teams searched Iraq high and low and only found remnants of deteriorated, decades-old chemical weapons shells, but no evidence of ONGOING WMD production and deployment, which might have justified and invasion.
First, he insisted that the remnants were meaningful.
Them, when it was pointed out that what they were finding was too deteriorated to be used (more a hazard to anyone trying to use them) he eventually wiggled his way around to insisting that they COULD HAVE BEEN shipped to Syria. Well, aside from the faxt that there was no earthly reason why Saddam should trust Assad, we wondered why this wasn't detected by reconnaisance. After all, if Saddam had had a WMD program big enough to be militarily meaningful, it would have made quite a convoy, being pulled back from "We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat," (Rumsfeld). If we could be that certain where they were, we should have been able to see where they had gone.
Well, they COULD HAVE been moved in a sandstorm! RAPPY insisted.
Every explanation he gave became a more and more convoluted and irrational story about how his suspicions COULD HAVE been true, despite there being not a shred of evidence to support his suspicions, and huge practical problems with his stories.

And then, we have JO. He is convinced ... CONVINCED, I TELL YOU! ... that Trump is Putin's puppet. Even tho every piece of "evidence" that he produces evaporates when you look at it, that this has been investigated over four years with no expenses spared, that Trump has not helped Putin in any material way and that there has been no "secret" communication uncovered between Trump and Putin which would have made such "collusion" possible, JO753 is convinced that this has happened "somehow". By magic, maybe? Telepathy?

The problem with their suspicions is that they're unbounded by evidence or even practical considerations. "How" this was done can only be explained with wildly implausible stories of "might have" and "could have" and "maybes".

And then there's you.

I think YOUR rub is that you can't explain to yourself WHY any government or pharmaceutical would insist on lockdowns and masking and vaccinations when they absolutely don't care about us "little people". So it becomes story about them wanting to turn us all into pod people or monkey with our DNA or something just as implausible as JO753's and RAPPY's suspicions.

So, let's focus on vaccinations: HOW can they control us thru vaccinations? Any evidence that a vaccination will turn YOU into a pod person? Monkey with your DNA?

Let me focus on the DNA aspect for a bit.

Both this virus and its vaccine are made of RNA, not DNA. RNA CAN'T interpolate itself into DNA because, among other things, it's got a different nucleic acid in it, and it's a single strand, not a double one. So even if it TRIED to squeeze itself into DNA, that portion wouldn't "work". It would be like using paint instead of caulk ... non-functional stuff.

Aside from that, it's EXTREMELY easy to sequence both DNA and RNA nowadays, with autmated sequencers. When the Wuhan virus was first isolated, China provided us with a full sequence within a few weeks.

Don't you think each vaccine-maker knows EXACTLY what's in everyone else's product? Tha

And now for the political considerations,

That's murkier because there are more actors with a lot more considerations.

It's like the Iraq War II:

Some were Armageddonists and believed it would lead us one step closer to the Rapture.
Some were following the PNAC/Netenyahu dream of destroying five of Israel's enemies in the ME.
Some were dreaming of all that OIL that had been sequestered in the ground for over a decade bc of sanctions on Iraq
Some wanted to add one more piece to the "surround Russia" puzzle.
At least one person wanted to burnish his wartime record and do what his daddy didn't, which was take Baghdad.
And some were propping up the petrodollar, because Russia and France had written up NON-DOLLAR oil deals with Iraq, and it only took Hans Blix's UNMOVIC finding that Iraq was in substantial compliance with UN mandates to unblock Iraq and ink the contracts.

I would bet that you would be hard-pressed to find ANYONE in the security state or WH who believed that Saddam had a WMD program or had anything to do wth 911.

I personally think that the petrodollar was the prime consideration, since the closer Blix got to wrapping up his investigation the more frantic the GWB administration got. In fact, it was OUR BOMBING that cahsed Hans Blix out of Iraq. So, yeah: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED indeed!

I give this as an example of the complicated factionalism that drives DC.

Don’t expect unemployment benefits if you don’t comply with your employer’s vaccine requirement

An employee who is terminated for failing to comply with company policies is not eligible for unemployment benefits, which would include refusing to comply with a company’s COVID-19 prevention policies, masking requirements or vaccine requirements.

Refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine, if your employer requires one, “is akin to an employee’s refusal to submit to permissible drug tests or participate in safety trainings,” said Ronald Zambrano, employment law chair at West Coast Trial Lawyers, a Los Angeles–based law firm. That is, such an employee, when terminated, would not qualify for unemployment benefits, Zambrano said.

What if employees quit because they don’t want to get vaccinated?

Quitting over refusal to get vaccinated when an employer requires it appears unlikely to improve one’s chances of securing unemployment payments.

“If you quit because of the mandate then you’d have to have good cause attributable to the employer in order to collect unemployment benefits,” Dixon said. “Good cause is usually viewed from that of a reasonable person. Given the overwhelming evidence of the safety of the vaccine, it’s likely that good cause would not be found” in the case of a person who quits a job because of a vaccine mandate.

To me however, it looks like a far more complicated picture than WMD because there actually ** WAS ** a novel viral threat, and it's still on the loose. That imo makes it harder to cleanly separate situational ignorance in an unknown situation from intentional exploitation.

Fake News.

This is a change in terms.

If you can get unemployment after your employer discontinued night shift even though they still offered you a day shift job, getting unemployment for refusing a vaccination that wasn't part of the job when you started will be easy.

Pity would be no more,
If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake

THUGR posts about Putin so much, he must be in love.

So, back to the topic at hand.

There is often no SINGLE motivating factor driving DC policy, and quite often the real reasons for doing anything are quite obscure.

Looking at the Democrat policies, WHAT are they?

Lockdowns
Masking
Vaccination

Since we've already agreed that they have NO interest in protecting us "little people", why are they doing what they're doing?

Having turned up the Fear dial to 10, they have an immediate political to interest in being the pols who "solve" the problem, or who can spin it that way.

And since big pharma is such a huge donor to the DNC, I'm sure that they don't mind paying back the favor.

But there's more at work here. If they were interested in being the "saviors" of "the people", they would not now be hyperventilating about the Delta variant, they would be toasting their success and announcing "Freedom Day", like in Britain.

Instead, they're

Obsessed about "cases", not the more meaningful figure of "deaths" and re-imposing restrictions,

Talking about "vaccine passports" (which, given that the vaccines are only 40pct effective at preventing transmission, bringing the transmissibility of this Delta variant down to the original Wuhan strain - totally meaningless from a public health standpoint)

Re-instituting masking, which (IMHO) data is equivocal on whether those disposable blue masks do anything at all. From my personal experience, N95s work bc everyone in the family wore one to go shopping, and none of us ever got sick.

So in some ways, by insisting on vaccinations, they were saying that their initial measures didn't work, and by re-instituting restrictions and masking they're saying the vaccination didn't "work". So by hyperventilating about the Delta variant cases, they're ... well, not exactly admitting defeat (bc IMHO the vaccines did work) but they're keeping the Fear Dial cranked up to 9.

*****

BTW my health care providers are pretty good indicators of how serious the situation is at any one time. Before the vaccine rollout, they were very paranoid about people wear

BTW Signy - I'm still interested in your take on the politics of COVID-19.

ETA: oh, we cross-posted!

Anyway, interesting point about the health-care people you've run across.

FWIW what ** I ** think should be happening is N95s for everyone in the US. It'd be certainly far cheaper than pushing vaccines$$ for everyone. I'm guessing the reason WHY it's not being done is because that won't blow the pharmas like the dems* want. As for all those unused vaccine stocks, I'm sure there are people in countries all around the globe who really want the vax. The more people who are vaccinated around the globe, the better the chance that new worse variants won't emerge as the virus mutates its way to being more contagious/ less pathogenic (because the transition is rough).

As for the delta strain blossoming in China, the Sinovac has a pretty low effectiveness, but especially in older people.

BTW, I STILL think that mixing vax technologies - mRNA v adenovirus-vectored - is the way to go, to get a more complete immune response. And I really hope they look into nasal vaccination, for transmissibility purposes.

So, instead of riding in on a white charger as the hero of the story, the DNC has opted to keep the Fear Dial at "simmer".

Why would they do that?

I can think of a LOT of reasons, but unlike the Iraq story, I feel that I haven't found the real reason, or the most important reason, yet.

So, in no particular order

The DNC wants a ready-made excuse for the financial and economic shitshow that they know is coming.

They want to stretch this out until the mid-terms so they can fudge mail-in vote counting. Again. (Not, I don't think, a realistic possiblity. People's everyday experience will eventually trump disinformation.)

They want to use the "crisis" - as they use ALL "crises" - to strengthen centralized control on all forms of communication- corporate social media, private messages, emails, and cable/broadcast outlets.

They want to make people dependent on government handouts (VOTE DEM!), so instead of fostering a robust economic recovery, they want to continue to hobble it.

They want to "rally the troops" and/or demonize Trump supporters on this wedge issue.

And that I think is a very strong point. By making this a health and safety issue, they not only have people people disagreeing with each other, they have people FEARING each other, existentially. They've split the population and put up a huge wall between them which will be almost impossible to breach. One side is afraid the other side will kill them, the other side is afraid the first side will (in essence) put them in concentration camps.

RUSSIA!RUSSIA! didn't do it. Ukrainegate didn't. WHITE NATIONALISM didn't. BLM/Antifa did, but only for some. But THIS is a wedge issue of giant proportions.

And look! They've succeeded!

SIX is in nutbag-land, denying facts that people in their everyday experience know, and arguing against people who fundementally agree with him, while others are ALSO in nutbag-land and insisting that everyone get the shot as if their life depended on it. Nobody tolerates middle ground, which is - IMHO- where policy should be.

In the process, with all of the lies the media has told and corporate social media has fostered, the establishment has burned its trust with half the population to a cinder, and now people are ready to believe any damn fool thing that comes along, as long as it doesn't sound like it's coming from "the establishment". So it's easy to portray one side as a bunch of cowards and the other side as a bunch of idiots.

I need to think this thru and see if I missed anything.

Some people deny facts that others, in their everyday experience, know.

Saying "Nobody ever died of Covid-19" doesn't go very far with people who've seen or experienced the virus IRL. All it does is piss people off and make those statements look crazy, stupid, supremely selfish, or all three.

And lying about what others say ... well, that doesn't go very far either. Especially since the internet does a good job of recording who posted what, when.

BTW, I don't appreciate sincerity. Being sincere is easy. Being objective is much harder, and very rare.

Trump estimates 100 million would be dead from COVID-19 without his vaccine efforts. He is far too modest. A billion would have died without Trump's absolutely essential contribution. He is truly and uniquely important for winning against Covid-19.

Dick Farrel, Anti-Vax Radio Host and Former Newsmax Anchor, Dies at 65 of COVID Complications

After calling Fauci a "power-tripping lying freak" and urging people not to get vaccinated as recently as June, Farrel changed his tune after contracting the virus himself and entering the hospital roughly three weeks ago.

"Covid Took One Of My Best Friends!" his friend Amy Leigh Hair wrote on Facebook. "He is the reason I took the shot! He texted me and told me to 'Get it!; He told me that this virus is no joke and he said: 'I wish I had gotten it!'"

I appreciate both.

You're not being objective, but you are being sincere. And 1 out of 2 ain't bad.

One more hypocrisy over all of this...

Kiki and others argue that a business can decide if people get vaccinated or not.

YET...

The CDC can just swoop in and tell landlords that they can't collect their fucking rent.

Does that seem right to you?

Checkmate. Bitches.

I read the moratorium. I does NOT say that landlords can't collect rent: "This Order has no effect on the contractual obligations of renters to pay rent and shall not preclude charging or collecting fees, penalties, or interest as a result of the failure to pay rent or other housing payment on a timely basis"

It does NOT even say landlords can't evict. It does say that there will be a slow and erratic, maybe even non-existent, process to fine the landlord many years after the evictions. A lawyer could easily stall the paying of that fine for ever and ever: "Under 18 U.S.C. 3559, 3571; 42 U.S.C. 271; and 42 CFR 70.18, a person violating this Order may be subject to a fine of no more than $100,000 or one year in jail, or both, if the violation does not result in a death, or a fine of no more than $250,000 or one year in jail, or both if the violation results in a death, or as otherwise provided by law."

A bunch of legal gobbledy gook so retards like you can pretend that bad things aren't bad.

Fuck you, Second. You'd be screaming right now if you owned real estate.

You're missing the point anyhow.

While we're going to pretend that the Government can't prevent a business from instituting a vaccine mandate, let's also get rid of the minimum wage mandate.

No you don't.

Your brother was entirely sincere with his 'vax or you're not welcome' policy. And you don't appreciate that one bit.

And then, here you are, being neither objective nor sincere.

I can fully appreciate his sincerity while showing mine as well.

His sincerity cost him a family member. That's forever. There's no going back on that one.

And many of his vaccinated family members didn't go either, because they're not going to be dictated what they need to do.

He and his new family are on their own now.

Good luck to them.

There has been talk about abolishing the minimum wage:

While they are abolishing laws, how about child labor protections?

I caused a management crisis because the client I was working for, Rohm & Haas, didn't like beards. The justification? Respirators that Rohm & Haas provide, which I would have to wear if there was an accidental release, won't fit air-tight over a beard. There never was an accident, but I cut the beard. Life is terribly hard and unjust for workers in America, but thankfully the Republican Party, and especially Trump, are fighting to raise the minimum wage (and lower the number of vaccinations and masks).

Where did you buy your college degree again?

appreciate:

1. recognize the full worth of.
"she feels that he does not appreciate her" (because Of Course THAT is the sentence Oxford would use to illustrate this point)

2. understand (a situation) fully; recognize the full implications of.
"they failed to appreciate the pressure he was under"

As in, "I appreciate that he's choosing the Leftist Dogma of his new East Coast Leftist family and friends over his own flesh and blood" AND "they failed to appreciate what the repercussions of their actions would be."

I mean... we're absolutely SURE that you're not Russian, right Kiki?

You seem too intelligent to not appreciate that a lot of English words have more than one meaning.
