In the coming days, additional troops stationed in Kabul will be withdrawn. The departure marks the longest American war in history, and the costs include 2,312 American lives and a $2.26 trillion bill to US taxpayers.

Biden Just Explained Why His Version of Capitalism Is Better Than the GOP’s
It’s more popular, too.

Republicans love to accuse Democrats of socialism. That’s how Republican senators, House leaders, and Fox News hosts talk about President Joe Biden: They call him a socialist, a front man for socialists, a Marxist, or a communist sympathizer. This makes sense as a political strategy, since Americans oppose socialism and prefer capitalism. But the accusation is false. Biden is a capitalist, and his version of capitalism is stronger, fairer, and more popular than the Republican one.

On Monday, the president spoke about the economic recovery and the threat of inflation. He poked fun at the GOP’s warnings “that if I got elected, I’d bring the end to capitalism.” “Six months into my administration, the U.S. economy has experienced the highest economic growth rate in nearly 40 years,” he observed. “It turns out capitalism is alive and very well. We’re making serious progress to ensure that it works the way it’s supposed to work: for the good of the American people.”

That last line is central to Biden’s worldview. Capitalism is a means, not an end. It excels at producing wealth, not distributing it. The goal of a capitalist society should be to improve people’s lives, not just to grow the economy, and to that end, the government should regulate capitalism and compensate for its excesses. In Biden’s words, the political system must “ensure that all working Americans benefit from the growth they’re helping produce.” That means we should measure the economy’s health by wages, not just corporate valuations. “I don’t look at the stock market as a means by which to judge the economy, like my predecessor did,” said the president.

In Biden’s version of capitalism, workers don’t just compete with one another for jobs; employers have to compete with other employers for workers. Right now, due to a labor shortage, “Companies across the country are giving workers a raise,” he noted. He tweaked Republicans for complaining about this trend, as though it’s “a problem if big companies have actually to compete for workers and offer them a fair wage.”

In Biden’s version of capitalism, government spending can facilitate commerce and competition. “Investments in better roads, bridges, transit systems, and high-speed Internet, and a modern, resilient electric grid”—in Washington terms, infrastructure—can open “the bottlenecks in our economy,” he explained. “Goods get to consumers more rapidly and less expensively. Small businesses create and innovate much more seamlessly.” On this, some Republicans agree. But Biden went further. He argued that “quality, affordable child care, elder care, [and] paid leave,” which Republicans dismiss as unnecessary social spending, could “enhance our productivity” by enabling “more people [to] enter the workforce.”

Biden understands that in an unregulated market, the first thing successful competitors will do is subvert competition. That’s why, earlier this month, he signed an executive order to tighten enforcement of antitrust laws, facilitate drug importation, require companies to disclose more information for comparison shoppers, and restrict anti-competitive employment, rental, and consumer contracts. The point of the executive order, he explained on Monday, was to promote “fair and open competition … the cornerstone of American capitalism” by helping new businesses take on “giant corporations who have been free to ramp up prices because they haven’t had any real competition.”

Ahead of the trip, Pentagon officials told The Washington Times that Austin would stress that there is an “open door to NATO” for Ukraine and Georgia. Russia has previously said that Ukraine joining NATO would be a “red line,” something Austin addressed Tuesday.

“No third country has a veto over NATO’s membership decisions. Ukraine, as you heard me say earlier, has a right to decide its own future foreign policy and we expect that they will be able to do that without any outside interference,” he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is eager to join NATO, but the US says Ukraine must make some “reforms” before joining the alliance. “The United States remains committed to helping Ukraine implement these reforms through a robust advisory effort,” Austin said.

In 2008, NATO officials agreed that Ukraine could eventually be a member of the alliance. But those plans were shelved when Viktor Yanukovych became Ukraine’s president in 2010. But since Yanukovych was ousted by a US-backed coup in 2014, Ukraine has moved much closer to NATO’s orbit.

Georgia was also promised a NATO membership in 2008. In Georgia on Monday, Austin discussed the “reforms” the country was making for the potential membership. “Georgia continues to make progress in terms of military reform and capabilities,” he said. “Our embassy noted some problems with the recent elections, but we also expressed confidence in Georgia’s ability to improve as time goes forward.”

Austin and his Georgian counterpart signed an agreement extending US military support to Georgia for another six years. With respect to Georgia and Ukraine, Austin slammed Russia and vowed to support the “sovereignty” of each nation.

The neocons, who have appeared to have taken over Biden* foreign policy, appear to believe that Russia will back down (it won't). BUT. Accession into NATO is a multi-year process. At what point Russia will react is uncertain, but in this case Russia seems to hold all the cards, because it has the full panoply of energy, transportation, economic, and military leverage at its disposal, while Ukraine and Georgia are far away from US borders and supply lines. If this heats up, most likely Russia will shut off gas and oil supplies to its enemies, while the USA will probably kick Russia out of SWIFT, which (I believe) is the whole goal of this theater anyway.

SO, I still can't figure out why the Biden* administration is trying to provoke war with both Russia AND China by opening the NATO door to Georgia and Ukraine (in the west) and promising to defend Taiwan (in the east).

It seems to me that if outright war developed between the USA and either Russia or China, the USA would lose, and definitely if the USA tried to take both on at the same time.

The USA is at least five years behind Russia in "hypersonic" technology (Russia has their hypersonic missiles deployed, the USA is testing various aspects of hypersonic technology right now).

This isn't just a recent move to distract from the Afghanistan debacle, because the USA has been trying to use Ukraine, Georgia, and Taiwan as cat's paws since at least May, secretly (and not so secretly) promising support if any of those nations would take on their relevant neighbor superpowers.

I guess first of all, those small nations would have to be insane to take that on militarily. THEY would be obliterated while the USA would basically still be safe, risking only those forces that our military chooses to commit. There's no way the USA could provide an umbrella to keep those nations safe.

So, more than likely, those small nations' first moves would be political, not military: declare independence, or begin the process of joining NATO. Since those are "red lines" for Russia and China, would their move be military? Because, again, those small nations would be obliterated. Of course, "world reaction" would be strongly against a superpower that destroyed a nation for its politics. Russia would be kicked out from SWIFT. China, too, might be kicked out from SWIFT, unable to spend its trillion dollars of Treasuries and USD.

So Russia and China might, instead, try something different:

Russia might take the coasts of Ukraine and Georgia and embargo those nations, shutting off gas, energy, and food supplies and all trade, China might do the same to Taiwan.

The direction of Biden's* foreign policy is becoming clear

He is using Taiwan to provoke China,
Ukraine to provoke Russia, and
Israel to provoke Iran.

Not that we can actually DEFEND any of these entities against a determined military attack ... no, the idea is to provoke a reaction from Russia, China, and/or Iran, abandon our "friends", and then implement embargoes and scare other nations (like Japan and Saudi Arabia).

What the f*ck the Biden* administration hopes to get out of this is beyond me. Russia is already well-insulated against sanctions, and if CHINA were to withhold its mighty production from the west ... well, what would we like to do without?
