Today I had the energy to tackle something big (for me).
Not originally on the "list of things to do" but this has been bugging me for years
Today, I got down on hands and knees and scrubbed the perimeter of the kitchen floor, and the baseboards. I can't even remember when this was done last, it's been so long.
Dear daughter followed it up with a regular damp mopping and vacuuming the mats. Instead of cringing when I look at the kitchen floor, I feel pleased. It may be worn, but at least it's clean.

It always feels great to do something like that.
Before I started painting the living room walls, I lived with a white powder of unknown origin that was caked on the walls after years of humidity without any A/C. If the OG colors weren't so terrible and there wasn't so much wall damage to fix, it would have almost been good enough to just leave as-is after the wipe down.
Good luck keeping up with it now. It's a whole lot easier to clean if you can remember the last time you did it.

There is free software, including Everything, at https://ninite.com/
To find the word Everything on that page, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and the F key, then type Everything into the Find box that appears. There so much stuff on that page that it is hard to find a program unless you use the Find box, but that is not surprising because it is even harder to find a file on a computer without using a program like Everything to find the files named, for a hypothetical example, chapter 13. . . .

If you're using Windows 10, the search function still works. It's gotten increasingly bloated and dumbed down since WindowsXP, but you can use that if you're just looking for file names.
For 13 you could type in the following in the search on the upper right side above your files:
"Thirteen" OR "13"
OR has to be capitalized or it won't work.

If you don't know the exact name of the file, you will have to do multiple searches with different spellings (chapter, chpater, cahpter, etc.) and a fast search method will find the file long before slow Windows Explorer finishes its first search.

How old is your computer? Mine is pretty old, and I've got 4 hard large hard drives to search through and I don't have that problem. It's slow, but not 10-minutes-slow.
It's certainly nowhere near as good as WindowsXP was, and I'd never use Windows 10 explorer to do work I used to do that required me to use the search function all the time, but if Brenda's looking for one specific thing on a thumb drive she should be able to find it easily with windows explorer and not have to download any 3rd party software for the task.
BTW... If anybody would find this info helpful, I use a program called Notepad++ for text documents these days. I have quite a lot of text files open at any given time. It's got a pretty robust search feature, and you have the option to type in something and search ALL open documents with it. It comes in VERY handy sometimes when I'm looking for some specific note I wrote that could have been from years ago. I do a lot of shorthand and these txt documents are purposefully an unorganized mess on top of it so that they'd come off as jibberish to anybody else.

I'm about to do something scary...
I'm painting the face of the soffits, as well as the lip underneath that sticks out about 3/4" past the crown molding trim on the upper cabinets.
I'm pretty great at cutting in these days, but I don't have the nerve to do that one by hand, so the tape is up and ready to go. I only want to cut that in twice with a roller treatment in between so I can take the tape off before the paint sets so much that it would rip off along with the tape. This will be tricky since I can't load up so much paint on a coat that it risks getting beneath the tape, but as I've said before the paint I'm using isn't a premium $50 per gallon paint either and the coverage can be spotty.
I'm hoping that since this is a semi-gloss paint for the kitchen that the coverage is closer to the high-gloss I used on the cabinets and not as thin as the eggshell I used in the living room.
Here's also hoping that I don't make any drippy drops on my cabinets either. I'm not worried if they fall onto the countertop, but since the cabinet doors are recessed it could be tricky to get this paint off of them if it goes into a crevasse.
Just breathe... It'll be alright.

I thought it was on a memory stick but after checking that it isn't. The only thing I now have a copy of that chapter on is a hard disk.

If your Chapter 13 is on a hard drive, why can't you access it from your computer? I don't understand that. Is the hard drive perhaps on your laptop? Or an older computer?
But if you can access the hard drive ...
Since COVID-19, my library has a print service. Using a library card and going online, one can upload a document to the library print server. They will print it out and set it out in a manila envelope with your name on it for you to pick up.
Or perhaps you could try a place like FedEx, Office Max etc, which have print functions available?
I don't known if something like that will help, but they're a couple of suggestions.

Meanwhile, just plugging along here.
I was just at my doctor yesterday.
Since I was having a hard time hearing her, she referred me to audiology. (And btw my hearing is right now VASTLY improved since I successfully flushed my ears out a couple of months ago !!)
I used to wear hearing aids, but since I worked in a high-noise environment, I gave up wearing them, since why did I need to hear noise even better? I think my hearing has deteriorated even further since I got the hearing aids many years ago, due to long-term pressure in the middle ears.
Another thing is I asked her to check was my ears, for a repeat serious buildup of gunk, a YUGE amount of which I previously flushed out a couple of months ago. There was no buildup, but apparently she could see high pressure congestion behind my eardrums attributable to allergies. So she referred me to an allergist as well. A long time ago allergy testing revealed I was allergic to everything they tested for - only crazy allergic to a few things, but kinda' allergic to everything else. So I had many years of allergy shots that helped with the overall itchiness, but not very much with the nasal allergies. Maybe this time around I'll get them taken care of!
And other routine tests, so we'll see how they come out.
One day at a time, I guess.

Tape was a great idea.
The soffits look fantastic and all the walls on the 1st floor are painted except for the accent wall now.
Only two little spots behind the tape let any of the grey through. It will be easy to touch that up with the high-gloss white when I get around to it.

It is on a floppy or rather a computer disk. My library did have an older computer with a disk drive on it but they got rid of the machine.
If they still had it, I could have used it to find the chapter on the disk and then get it printed out.

My book is ready for publishing but I need it on a computer to be able to have something to show a publisher. I had it gone over and vetted by an editor.
Hence why I am redoing it onto this new computer. Most publishers even in Canada accept electronic submissions.
Also I don't want to try and recreate that chapter from scratch and I happen to like the book the way I wrote it.

SOMETIMES you can pull a hard drive out of an old computer and put it into a new one, and the operating system will see it and figure out how to access it. But there are a lot of reasons why that might not work, so I'm not even going to try figuring your computer parts out, BRENDA. I just hope you find it.

More work on credit for the bartering today. Long shift.
At this rate, I'll have my buddy's dad helping me out with my porch inside and out as well as the flooring and resurfacing of my kitchen countertop. He's already got plans for both of those things.
If I get motivated tomorrow, I think I might put the paint up on the accent wall and be done with the painting of the walls/ceiling on the 1st floor save for the cabinets.
Got a piece of wood today that I think should be perfect to cut all the extensions for the windowsills to fit the new casings, and I'll get to finally use my new cordless jigsaw for the job.

What I got on the memory stick from the old computer is not a complete copy of my book. I took the stick to the library on Monday and checked it out. That material is only up to chapter 5, I think.
I have to get a external drive. I might be able to get one at a local tech place.

Also problem solved about floppy disk. I took 2 disks into a local tech place and they used their external hard drive to read both of them. Then they printed off the material I needed. So, they also offered to put the complete copy of my book on a memory stick and I am now contemplating that.

If they're offering to put it on memory stick, I'd take them up on it, as long as you label and date it.
I don't know if you're still doing any editing, but where I used to work, 'version control' was a big problem with some people. They'd make and keep multiple variations of editing of the same document, which is really easy to do on a computer. But they had no indication as to which was the most developed one, and which ones were earlier drafts that should be ignored.
Anyway - I'm so happy for you! I know you've been working on the story as it was possible to do so, and it seems like this is a big step to completing it!

Glad you got your chapter back, Brenda.
Thumb drives are super cheap. Buy yourself 5 of them and back everything you've ever typed up 5 times so you're never worried about losing it again. Just make sure that when you write new stuff you're also backing it up somewhat regularly.
You don't need an external hard drive, unless you're going to start making movies or doing photography with a high quality digital camera. Text and Word documents are SMALL.

Accent wall is finished.
The dark grey looks AMAZING on that wall. And that's even without the existing baseboard being repainted and all of the additional trim I have yet to do being installed.
I'm so glad I didn't chicken out and go with a lighter grey.
My buddy's dad doesn't need any more help before the party, so tomorrow is more or less a free day for me. I think I might start putting up those pricey decorative outlets and covers tomorrow. It's nice finally using all of this stuff I paid for months or even years ago.

I am as I said thinking about it.
I am doing a bit of editing as I retype it out as I see that I missed little things even in what was a complete, clean copy.

You will never, ever fill one up to full with your writing, even if you wrote a chapter for a book every day for the rest of your life.
Buying extras is simply for redundancy sake and so you never have to worry about where your stuff went if a freak accident happens. I'd even consider giving one to somebody you trust to hold on to after you back it up.

My problem is that a lot of the stuff that I back up for my long-on-hiatus project is in the terrabytes. I finally broke down and bought a 5TB external last year to help alleviate this problem and get a 2nd backup of everything so far, but the rest is on three other 1TB and 2TB drives, so I have to keep some detailed notes about what is on which drive.
Eventually I'll have a better solution. But at least everything is backed up twice on drives that had good health checks last year before I stored them away.
Some of it actually isn't backed up though... Probably around 2TB of stuff. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I lost it since it would just be a matter of how hard would it be to re-acquire it when the time came compared to when I got it. But it doesn't involve any of the countless thousands of hours I've put into work though.

I'm not even sure if you can find one easily under 8GB or 16GB anymore, but I'm seeing 16GB thumb drives advertised at WalMart right now for $4.97 each.
I'd get at least two of them for redundancy. $10 or $15 is well worth the piece of mind.

Unless something changes while letting it fully cure over the next few days, I'm going to have to recommend a hard pass on Pittsburg's Ultra line of paint.
Like I mentioned before, the coverage is not very good, but with a dark color it seems to get even worse than that.
I finished last night after it was dark outside and everything looked great, but when daylight was shining in it looked "cloudy" up by the ceiling where I cut in and above the opening for the two staircases as well. At first I thought that even though I took extra care, two cut-ins didn't cover completely, but when I went up on a ladder it seemed to disappear.
I decided to cut in up there again anyhow, and now it looks even worse.
The problem is, the cut-in is not blending with the roll on. When you don't have a ton of light coming in you can't notice it, and even with a lot of light you don't notice it from certain angles, but it seems that anything done with a brush is going to shine about 3 times as much as what was rolled... and this is with an eggshell sheen.
This paint is garbage. Any halfway decent paint wouldn't do this.
I'll take it back if after a few days of curing this problem corrects itself, but I'm not happy with this result at all right now. I'm not very hopeful because after 24 hours of curing this shouldn't have been happening anymore.
If I have to, I'm going to roll it out one more time, but I'll have to use a fine-nap roller so I can get as close as humanly possible to the edges without hitting the ceiling. This will require me to stand on a ladder at points and carefully roll it in there horizontally as I go along. You should never have to do this when painting, regardless of the darkness of the color or the level of sheen.

lol.... Murphy's Law in full effect today.
I decided, very late at night, I was going to try to start installing the new outlets and covers. I knew this wouldn't go well.
I don't remember the outlet by the front door giving me problems, but it must have. The holes for the screws to put an outlet in are too large (likely stripped larger by idiot Bob at some point. It just doesn't make any sense though because I looked at the old screws on the old outlet and they are the same size as the new ones, and they just flow freely in and out of the holes in the junction box too. I think what idiot bob must have done was "glued" the outlet in place with the paint (possibly some construction glue) and somehow it held all this time up until I pulled it off the wall a month or two ago and just let it hang freely until I had the paint up and was ready to put the new outlet back in.
I was thinking of threading the screws with teflon tape, but I couldn't find it. So then I did it with electric tape and it worked great...
Until I realized that I just successfully removed any and all grounding this outlet had via the conduit. Crap.
What ended up working though was taking off a few longish green grounding screws from some old light fixtures I had. For some reason those holes took the wider screw. So now it's in solid and I have proper grounding too.
Then I went to do the switches above. One does the porch light and the other does the outlet I just fixed. Oops... I didn't buy any 2-pole flapper switches. So I was only able to replace one of the two switches.
That's it. I'm done for the night. I'll get back to it when I pick up a new switch.
Hopefully the rest of the outlets in the two rooms don't give me this much trouble, but I'm seriously doubtful that the phone and cable jacks are going to go smoothly. They haven't had proper covers on them since I moved in, and the telephone wires were just looped into themselves and freely hanging out the hole. I'm going to have to look online how to properly wire a phone jack if the jacks I bought don't have instructions in them.

I don't know what I was thinking last night...
The switches I had were fine. I think I was just trying to do the work too late in the night.
Uncle Bob did use a 3-way switch on a switch that didn't need or use it, but a single pole switch that I already had did the job.
So far so good... I've done a massive fix on one outlet that I could practically pull right out of the wall when I tried unplugging something that is rock solid now, I've got earth ground on an outlet that had larger holes than it should have and may not have been grounded for at least 10 years, and I've got my shiny new flapper switches that control one of those outlets and my porch light up with the new screwless covers over them.
I'll get to the rest maybe tomorrow. I've got other plans for today.

Yeah... Two days later and it doesn't look as though the problem is going to correct itself. I think I'm going to re-roll the entire wall now with a much shorter nap and get as close as I can to every edge. It should be fine then.
I used the Ultra P High-Gloss white on the cabinets and all of the baseboard and door/window casings, and they turned out great. But I did put a LOT of coats on there, and everything was brushed by hand so there weren't the random reflections of light that a roller puts down. Plus, the high-gloss paint in that same line comes out to more than double the price of the flat paint, so that might also have something to do with it.
If it were just the problem I'm having with the dark wall currently, I'd say go ahead and use the paint for lighter colors, but since you risk having to do three coats because of the lousy coverage even on light walls, I'd just say skip it entirely.

I'm kind of surprised at my luck so far. I know it was a long time ago now, but when I did all of them in the 2nd floor I don't remember having to fix a single thing when swapping out the old for new.

Well, I think I finally figured out how to keep the dog healthy.
Aside from vitamins and iron, I really keep track of her ... ah ... poop.
Loose or soft once in a while is to be expected, but when it happens more often than not it means she has worms, again.
I thought she was lively with the vitamins and iron, but she's a little terror once she's been dewormed (with fenbendazole). It's great to see her charging around and being all lively, with a puppy's energy!

It is looking pretty sweet.
It was SO bad before though that you'd have to really try hard to do anything on the first floor that made it look worse than it did before.
The 3rd roller coat fixed my "glare" problem. I used a 1/2" nap instead of my 3/4" nap and rolled parallel to the ceiling as tight as I was comfortable doing and you can't even tell anymore. Not a step I would ever have to normally take, but I guess that's the price you pay for going with a dark color and cheap paint.
Fortunately, I had JUST enough to finish that third coat without having to dip into the sealed gallon. I really cut it close though.
My 5th outlet was a breeze and gave me no problems. Finally!
The 6th was a cable outlet. The cover isn't as tight to the wall as I'd have liked it, but the faux junction box/plastic things they used to put holes with screw mounts on them "pinch" the wall to hold tight, and the lip above the surface is not playing well with the screwless plates. I may or may not hit the sides of them with caulk when I'm done (since it's extremely unlikely that I'd ever remove them before I'm out of this house). It's in tight... I'm just not a huge fan of how it kind of floats about 1/16" from the wall instead of being firmly on it like the outlets and switches.
I'm going to skip the two phone outlets for now and do those last. Hopefully they're not too big a problem. If all goes well I should have all my new outlets and plates up by the end of the day, as well as the grate for the cold air return.
Maybe I'll find the time to wrangle up a few before/after pics.

Okay... Here's a few...
This was the cold air return for the furnace with the old paint job. What a joke. Had to bust out a lot and clean up the edges with a file before priming and painting it.
Here's a before and after of the 3rd roll on the accent wall today. Depending on how your monitor shows it, you should be able to see the unsightly shine toward the ceiling that I made disappear. Not really a big deal around the opening though since I'm going to be framing that all out with door trim.
A before/after of what 3 outlets in one corner have looked like for the last 10 years before today...
The same thing with another corner, but this one shows off the accent wall... Unfortunately, that phone jack is a few millimeters higher than the plug outlet, but I'm not going to do anything about it now. I'll never see it because of the decorative piece I put there that has all of my network stuff and printer on.
And just a little taste of my finished kitchen cabinets now that I've got the soffit painted. See how I hit the soffit underneath up to the molding?

Hey Brenda, it sounds like your book is doing well. When you read about all the 'stuff' the homeowners here are doing instead of - say - writing - I hope it gives you a little extra satisfaction about being where you are.
Signy - I'm sorry to say the chipper/ shredder will be awhile. Unlike the rototiller, which had a feature that truly set it apart from all the others plus excellent reviews everywhere, the chipper/ shredder is far more problematic a selection. None are really outstanding in terms of features or functions. And all have middling to worse ratings, with reviews that highlight specific problems that, imo, should never occur if they were well-designed and well-built. For example, a model had a couple of reviews mentioning bolts shearing off the frame during use, another featured bits of metal pinging through the shredder from somewhere inside and being shot out at speed in a couple of reviews. (Ready. Aim. FIRE !) But ALL had some problem that seemed hinky. And since I started out basically knowing nothing about that kind of thing, and had to learn as I went along reading descriptions and reviews, I'm more comfortable letting that info marinade for a while before finally deciding. I THINK I have my choices narrowed down to one company, and one of 2 of their models, but I'm going to go back through by the end of this month, or early next month, to make sure what I thought then is still what I think afterward.

Not that floor. I did that in the bedrooms/hallway upstairs and the stairs leading up to it. The living room floor wasn't nearly as terrible as the floors were upstairs under the carpet.
I think I'll probably do the living room floor at some point though. There are some fairly rough spots, and unfortunately they're toward the perimeter so they couldn't even be covered up with a nice area rug.
I haven't made up my mind about that shoe on the baseboard either. I still have to scuff sand, prime and re-paint the baseboard and I might take that all off the fronts of them first. It's kind of out of style these days and I don't have it on any of the baseboard upstairs.

Oh... BTW.. in that last pic, you can see just a bit of that vinyl privacy film I used on the windows when I took all the blinds down. (You can open the image much larger in another tab). I put that up about 14 months ago now and it's all sticking just as good as when I first put it up.
Seems to clean fairly easily too, so I know that there was some possible interest in that product and I'd figure I'd give an update.
Can't remember the full name of the brand, but I got it off Amazon and it had "Gorilla" in the name. That should be enough to get you where you're going if you wanted to look into it yourself.

I think I want to replace the ceanothus with some not quite so persnickety. Because the oak tree has grown up so nicely, I'll probably put in a shorter shrub... 4ft instead of 8ft... so ppl can see the oak beyond.
Prolly a CA coffeeberry. It's called that bc it's berries look like coffee berries, but aren't. The birds like them, tho.
BTW I also am growing up some real coffee trees to plant under the avocados. Come the apocalypse, when coffee is impossible to come by, I'll have the market cornered.

Yeah. I used a different pattern in the in the living room and the basement that I liked better, but they're both good. That one is in the kitchen and the bedrooms and puts off a really cool rainbow effect when the light is right.

Haven't been outside today, so I had no idea it was 89 degrees out right now.
Just checked the weather and not at all surprised to see severe thunderstorm warnings for the next 8 hours. It was bright and sunny and now it's dark and extremely windy. My poor front lawn getting everybody else's crap all over it again.

Yeah. It wouldn't surprise me. Now that I have no blinds in the house and privacy film up everywhere, my light levels are pretty much dependent on whatever the sun's up to during the day. Those two photos would have been taken a few hours apart.
The most striking difference was right above the opening, about a foot or so under where the wall meets the ceiling, but that also wasn't nearly as important since I'm going to be casing out the entire stairway opening as if it were a door and it would have been covered up anyway. I just didn't want to see it anymore and there wasn't any point not fixing it since I was already rolling out the entire wall one last time to fix it up by the ceiling.

Pretty much a relaxing day here, but I did two more pieces of electrical work... neither of them went smooth (of course).
A wall outlet that was up high in the corner of the kitchen, currently tucked away behind the curio cabinet that I have my tablet and mp3 player as well as one of my cordless phones always charging on was knackered. Uncle Bob just decided to glue that outlet in with liquid nails since the screws he had on the outlet he used weren't long enough to reach the junction box that was pretty deep in there. My screws were longer, so they reached... just barely. It's all good now.
The big project was the 4-banger switch panel behind the fridge. One switch for the ceiling fan, one for the ceiling fan light, one for the light over the sink and one for the light on the back porch (that would have been an outdoor light many moons ago before the 3 season room was built).
The old switches were pretty much standard light switches with two screws on each side, despite the fact they had two tiny switches on each of them instead of one. The new ones had 1 screw on one side and 3 on the other side. Serving to further confuse me, there was a tab in the center of the back you could pull out to create two separate circuits.
I almost didn't do it and was going to add it to the list of things my buddy's dad is going to do when he starts coming over to help me out with things, but I ended up going for it.
Super expensive though. Those switches were $15 each and the decorative plate for it was another $5. Since every light I've put up since I've been here has either been pulled from a rehab job, a hand-me-down or purchased for pennies at Goodwill, that's by far the most money I've spent on a single junction box in 10 years.
But it looks great.
And there's something extremely satisfying about hearing those tiny flapper switches click when you flip them instead of the dull nothing the old crap did.
Tomorrow I begin the process of moving all of my remaining trim and baseboard inside the house to begin the process of painting it.
It really is nice to start finally using up all of this stuff that I bought on sale up to 2 years ago and have been tripping over ever since.

I got up really early today. I read that (regular) forager honeybees bees start the day early because they like their nectar and pollen with a high moisture content. So I went out at the 06:30 official daybreak, and sat and watched the flowering tree to see when the bees showed up, and which direction they came from/ went back to. (Before I sat down I dumped the birdbath since bees seemed to be attracted to the water as well.)
The answers for today were: around 07:00 (they may have been slow to gather because it was much cooler this AM than yesterday); and SSE.
Many years ago I had (regular) honeybees swarm a different crape myrtle tree; so much so that I heard the collective buzzing from inside the house and went to check it out. They didn't swarm the tree the day before, or the day after, or any other time that I noticed (but most of my daytime hours over the years were at work, so there's that ...). So the tree must have been putting off some powerful 'come hither' scents at that time!
I have similarly not noticed any bees or any insects at all swarming this other crape myrtle until yesterday, when the (killer) bees were aggressively all over it; and also getting up in my grill as I was quietly sitting 25' away. But today, while I saw a few, it wasn't like yesterday. So maybe it was a one-time event ... I'll need to keep an eye on that though.
Anyway, the only thing I can do is make sure they're not on my property.
None of the places I talked with do overall property inspection. They'll come if you point out a hive(nest), or they'll check structures, but not properties. So I guess it's up to me to **cautiously** poke and peer for any (killer) bee hives.
We need good rains and a good really cold winter to set the (killer) bee populations back. Like Jack's ants V my Argentinian ants, killer bee behavior is distinct from regular honeybees. Regular honeybees don't nest in the ground, killer bees do. Regular bees are super busy making honey and storing it to keep the hive going through winter, killer bees make 3X more honey, but it gets used up to fuel high population growth. Behavior-wise, regular honeybees are slow, low-flying, single-minded, and methodical as they work flowers; killer bees are fast, fly high, have erratic flights paths with quick, high-speed, random direction changes, and chase each other aggressively off of flowers, and are easily distracted by other things (like me sitting quietly). (They fly and react much more like hornets than like honeybees.) They wouldn't be well-buffered from a cold, wet winter.

How are your ants treating you? It's rare I see any near the house these days with how much poison I've been putting down, but that's probably a war I'll be fighting as long as I live here.
I'd like to think they're not inside the siding anywhere, but I think I'd see them at some point if they were. They're not going after any food inside, and I'm out doing enough stuff outside where I'd notice a procession of them foraging like I did when I had them inside.

Started out the day sanding the coat closet and pantry door, but decided it was silly to be doing that in a more or less "finished" area while they'r on the hinges when I can bring them down into the basement. I was going to take the hinges off anyhow to work on the trim and jambs.
I'm NOT doing that on the two exterior doors though, since I don't want to be without exterior doors for any amount of time, so I'll have to work around everything on those and try not to make too much of a mess.
This got me to finally clean up my work area downstairs, clean up all of the trim that has been sitting in my back porch for nearly 2 years and stage it in the basement for painting. The porch had to be cleared out anyhow since we're going to be starting the work on putting proper windows and a proper door on it soon.
It's already kind of getting late in the day, but I may keep at it. I've already pulled one of the doors down and it's on the horses to be sanded. I'm not in a great hurry to do that though since I don't think there's any way I'll have all 4 doors I want to paint together ready by the end of the day to put a coat of primer on, and since I'm going to roll them this time I don't want to do it until they're all ready so I'm not wasting paint that needs to be washed out of the roller when I'm done for the day.
I would like to get that really nice mirror I've got sanded down though since I have to paint that with a brush. I'd love to at least have that thing back up soon. You don't realize how much you miss a mirror until it's not up anymore, and I've been without it for about 2 months now.

I JUST got some ant bait with borax as the active ingredient, and I was honest-to-god JUST going to start setting some stations outside yesterday as I was doing yardwork. But I wasn't comfortable with the idea of being busy and moving around with killer bees so close by and so easily hacked-off by any little thing, so I did no yardwork and set out no ant bait.
Tomorrow I'm going to go out VERY early and do yardwork in one particular place in my yard where there could possibly bee (HA HA)* a hive, and make that a habit for the next while. Also, wear heavy clothes taped at wrists and ankles and tucked in at the waist, gloves, and an N95 mask, and hood, just in case, until proven otherwise.

Be careful. I get the feeling that they're not nearly as dangerous as the Bee apocalypse they told us was heading our way in the Weekly Reader when I was a kid, but I can't imagine tangling with them would be pleasant.

I ended up getting both the coat closet and pantry door down and sanded on all sides, rounded down on the edges. The wood putty that's been in the holes now for months worked great.
I was in the middle of sanding down the frame on the mirror, but I ran out of daylight.
I ended up taking the horses outside and sanding everything out there. It was stupid to try in the basement. It seemed to be going well until my battery died, but when I switched in a fresh battery it took two seconds to realize that I'd have dust all the way up to the 2nd floor if I did it down there.
Oh well. I cleaned out the entire porch while I was at it and hit even the walls and the ceiling with the shop vac. It hasn't looked that clean in 2 years, and now all my baseboard and trim is ready to put on horses and paint when I need it.
Hopefully I can finish sanding that mirror, the jambs for all 4 doors, and the insides of the two exterior doors and at least start hitting everything with primer tomorrow.

I had a stereoatactic biopsy of my breast today, so no yardwork for me for a while. Aside from having my boob clamped in a vise ("paddles", they call them. HA!) it was literally painless.
This is the second biopsy of that breast. The first was was a suspicious mammogram leading to a stereotactic biopsy leading to an excisional (full anesthesia) biopsy where they took a chunk out the size of a big hamburger. But the pathology lab findings, altho extremely unusual (the pathologist shopped it around to two others) were not cancer, they were "abnormal apocrine glands" (sweat cells.)
So I've been this road before and have learned not to borrow trouble from the future - it'll come to me soon enough - and am not sweating the results. Whatever it is, I'll deal with it.
Anyway, don't expect to read about great progress from me for a while! But I'll be reading your posts with great interest and (maybe) just a little bit of jealousy.

I've known four people with cancer. It killed my MIL, but hubby has had two kinds of cancer, eldest sis had cervical cancer and aunt had breast cancer, and hubby and sis are alive lo these many decades later, aand aunt lived for another 4 decades before dying of something else. So it's not the death sentence that everyone thinks. I prefer to be optimistic.

You've only known four? That's pretty lucky.
Most of the men on both sides of my family tree don't live long enough to retire and die of one form of cancer or another. My dad seems to be the only one shattering that mold.
Ironically, even though about half of them smoked, it wasn't ever lung cancer that did 'em in.
Few breast cancer cases with the women of the family as well on my mom's side. (no cancer with women on my dad's side, oddly).
My grandma fought that for decades, and if you weren't as close with her as I was, you probably had no idea.
If they find anything, they're finding it early since you go regularly. Glad you're keeping it positive because you should be in your situation.
