As a chemist who has has to investigate and analyze odor complaints, I can tell you that "rotting corpse smell" has NOTHING to do with 2-nonenal, or any kind of aldehyde.

The chemicals associated with rotting corpses are

cadaverine
putrescene
skatole
indole (all nitrogen-containing compounds)

hydrogen sulfide
methanethiol
dimethyl disulfide
dimethyl trisulfide (all sulfur-containing compounds)

By comparison nonenal contains oxygen.

I used to supervise a chemist (Mormon) and apparently he took his magic underwear seriously! He also didn't brush his teeth. I had to send him home to shower, change and brush his teeth bc by god, he stank.

BY CONTRAST 2-nonenalsmells like

No, it doesn't. I even posted the genetic sequences of both, along with the 3-d structures. There is no overlap.

Such as? Links? BTW, the list of supposed vaccination problems was merely a list of things people noted after the vaccine.

"I got the vaccine, and I got a cold". Well I could link a bunch of things in time that have no cause-and-effect relation of one to the other. I got up, and I saw the sky was cloudy. He sneezed, and his car wouldn't start. They sang a song, and there was a small earthquake. Believe it of not, things happen in sequence over time that have no cause-and-effect relationship with each other, at all.

For one things, the 2-nonenal 'smell' you originally claimed came from the vaccine smells nothing like a rotting corpse. And do you know what he normally smelled like, by any chance? Or do you think he might have just eaten eggs, or cheese, and needed to brush his teeth? I can think of a lot of reasons why someone might smell bad, either chronically or temporarily, that have nothing to do with 2-nonenal or a vaccine.

As to the links you posted that you seem to think indicate a relation between spike protein and syncytin ...

This link doesn't at all address any viral spike protein at all or SARS-CoV-2 at all. It addresses the envelope protein of non-specified viruses. So it fails to draw any relevance to syncytin and SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Furthermore, you've fundamentally misunderstood that there are different proteins in SARS-CoV-2 by equating them. Spike proteins and envelope proteins are very different proteins. "The coronaviral genome contains four major structural proteins: the spike (S), membrane (M), envelope (E) and the nucleocapsid (N) protein" https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32342926/

This link actually denies any similarity between syncytin-1 and spike protein, it's stated right up front.

And this link talks about a potential similarity with a sodium protein channel IN SKIN and the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, not with syncytin.

I don't know what you think you're proving with these links, but maybe you should look further, "if you want to do the research yourself ".

You know, like you, Rappy used to post 'I WIN!!' all the time, especially when he claimed there was a metric crap-ton of extant WMD's in Iraq ready and able to make war on the US at any moment. But in the end there were only ghost WMDs that didn't seem to exist in this realm. The larger point is that winning an argument is pointless in the face of reality. What will you think if the population doesn't crater like you say it will? Are you just going to reset your clock like a lot of other failed prognosticators? Or will you re-think your premise?

While I think SARS-CoV-2 was in some way related to biological warfare research (see human ACE-2 docking), a spike-protein vax, or set of various spike-protein vaxes developed by mutually hostile countries all around the globe, is not the same as the virus.

I await with mild interest your claim of Armageddon coming to fruition. I'll probably give it to December 31, 2021, because - like with people claiming the end of the world is near! - anything is possible given long enough. But a prediction needs to be timely to be meaningful. At the same time, I'll be looking for both evidence it's happening and evidence it isn't. A severe fall in global birth rate for example, might support your claim. But if instead the birth rate goes up as I suspect it will, especially among Anglo-western countries because of lockdowns and a lot of bored men at home with nothing else to do - I'll consider that a detriment to your claims.

All that said, I don't think you're at all insincere in your posts. You truly believe something wicked this way comes, even if your exact ideas are somewhat formless and shifting. And given your POV, and while I disagree with a fair bit of it, I admire your efforts to - Spread the news. Wake people up. Maybe even save people from themselves.

Your POV must bring a large burden of stress.

Also, fwiw, I still do hope you make a speedy and complete recovery.

I'm done trolling. I only came to add helpful information that can help people, and not looking to face dunk a troll or win argument points whatever

Like David Martin says in that interview, he's not dancing at the doom, he's sad, because he's been ringing the alarm bell on bioterrorism for years, and no one's been listening.

I feel the same way. i haven't been on this train as long, but I get it now. This is a serious threat, and people aren't taking it seriously. And that's not going to help them.

I'm going to make some dinner and get on with what's left of life. Virtually everyone I know has died in the last two years from the intentional medical incompetence society. I'm just going to limp on and try to get something done.

Years ago we were a group of people who had a shared vision of a world we cared about. Now we're a cemetery, and it's just me, and I really don't care what other people think about it

If anyone wants me I'll be over in Cinema posting occasionally, but otherwise I'm going to be other places, trying to deal with this actual threat

In science, nothing succeeds like successful prediction.

I too, wait with mild interest for the coming apocalypse among the vaccinated. I think that Dec 31 is a reasonable deadline, but I would make that 2022. If I had a calendar, I would write it in to check upon your prediction. Since I don't, I hope someone remembers for me.

In the meantime, carry on.

DREAMTROVE, may I restate your concern about the vaccine in different terms?

MY concern about the vaccine is not that it overlaps with syncytin, will make women sterile, cause premature aging or autoimmune response, contains fetal cells, or inserts itself into our DNA.

MY biggest concern with a spike protein-based vaccine is that it is the spike protein that is capable of triggering cytokine storm, and that repeated exposure to the spike protein thru booster shots may increase the possibility of cytokine storm on the next exposure, either to th actual virus or to a subsequent jab.

The argument against that is that so few have experienced drastic side effects from the vacine [compared to experience with the virus itself IN THE ABOVE 50 POPULATION] that the vaccine is still safer - IN THE ABOVE 50 POPULATION- than getting the virus itself.

Relative risk is why I would not recommend a vaccine for the fit, under 50 population.

Seeing as you seem to have Covid-19, I direct your attention to the paper I linked in
New human-to-human..." http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=63473&p=54 which discusses the monoclonal antibody treatment and research for moderate to advanced cases of Covid-19.

It can be very damaging, and lead to autoimmune conditions, and death. A friend of mine's father just died from the jab, I got the blow by blow as it was happening. Basically in three days his lungs exploded. So, yes, for some people this is a very serious issue, and for most it's not

Quote:

I can definitely agree with this. I might move the cutoff age up a little, maybe 60. The dad in question was 57. But people with relatively healthy immune systems who are not in danger from the virus are in danger from auto-immune conditions.

In a sane world, everyone can make an unpressured choice. I don't think the complaint is that the vax exists, it's the vax mandates, and the high risk untested vaccine that anecdotally a lot of us see a lot of negative result, radically life destroying negative results, in people to whom the virus itself does not pose a major risk

My job is forcing me to take the covid vaccine or else they will let me go. Is that legal? Related questions: Are worker protections Socialist? Are Fair labor laws government intrusion into private business?

Answer: 49 of the 50 US states have “employment at will” laws, which gutted worker protections, reduced or eliminated fair labor relations boards, and made it absolutely legal for employers to terminate employees with or without notice and with or without cause for any reason whatsoever as long as the reason isn’t membership in a protected class.

So, yes, it’s legal.

I see this question a lot on Quora, and I must confess I do literally, not figuratively, laugh every time I see it.

When Ronald Reagan was in office, one of the big conservative legislative pushes was to gut fair worker relations laws and abolish fair labor relations boards in favor of a system that offered basically zero worker protections. Worker protections are Socialist! Fair labor laws are government intrusion in private business! Business works better without government oversight!

Conservatives battled ceaselessly for decades to pass these laws. Liberals kept saying “you know, if you pass these laws, there will come a day when they’re used against conservatives” and conservatives were all “no, no, no, never happen, I can’t hear you la la la.”

Now here we are. 49 states have implemented at-will employment laws, and…

Conservatives are having their contracts dropped because of the things they Tweet. Conservatives who don’t want to wear masks or get vaccinated are getting fired. And conservatives are all “it’s not fair this can’t be legal how dare you do that MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS!”

We told you.

We told you this would happen.

Yes. Yes, it is legal.

Second,

there's a reason the average conservative is older than the average liberal

liberal is a position of not knowing, it's just a position of ignorance. When you know, you'll be a conservative also, so it's in your future, if you survive.

Now, sure there are moron conservatives who are reiterating whatever their parents said, and there are even dumber ones who i think of as not moderate or conservative but just "right wing" who are just like left wingers, but they subscribe to a "right wing" media to which they have also outsourced their brains

here's what never happens, and this is why I'm posting it. The left is never sitting there with the information that the right doesn't know that can enlighten the right and convince them to be left (again)

that's because left is a position of ignorance, and you can't tell a person who is informed that they should become ignorant again

so, morons on the right notwithstanding, it's not going to work as a tactic.

now that said, the right believes a ton of things that are still stupid and you can debate them one at a time and win, as long as you're willing to look at why they believe them and also self examine why you believe what you believe, and then maybe both of you are wrong, as a third possibility

but that's a different sort of discussion than the ones you've been having

6ix, winning an argument is not something that can be done over the internet. Where are referees watching the arguments/discussions and calling penalties on the internet? Where is the scorekeeper? Where are officials setting the rules? Nowhere. On the internet, the losers declare themselves the winners! There are no penalties for losers of arguments on the internet because it is only bits of data. Real world winners get tangible rewards, not bits. And real world losers lose their life, their job/money/house/marriage, or just end up sick while wasting time on the internet.

The Health Care System Has Collapsed

As a resident physician who has only trained in an era of COVID—I was asked to consider graduating from school early in April 2020 to help with medical staff shortages—my time as a doctor has been defined by working in a system that has already collapsed. The American health system I work in has featured limited personal protective equipment, oxygen shortages, and the construction of field hospitals in convention centers and parking garages. Last winter, many hospitals across the country instituted crisis standards of care, forced to ration health services based on criteria that few people envisioned would be used outside of a mass casualty event, like a terrorist attack. Today, hospitals are full in much of the country, with patients requiring an ICU being airlifted thousands of miles in search of a staffed bed. These are not features of a health system that is approaching failure. These are features of a health care system that has broken down spectacularly, forcing doctors and patients to climb through the rubble looking for help.

It's been known for almost a couple of years now in a general kind of way that Wuhan (lab or university) was doing subcontracted research work on bat coronaviruses funded by Fauci's agency.

Anyone who has been on either end of a research grant knows that it doesn't progress without a metric crapton of paperwork: Proposals, MOUs, budgets, interim reports, emails, phone calls - which are logged, invoices, disbursements, etc etc.

The fact that the WHO "investigated" the origin of the virus without ever asking for the relevant documents is not only careless, it's a coverup.

I don't know how much evidence remains. I imagine that a lot of paper-shredding and email erasing has gone on since this all started late 2019.

Good for the Intercept that they knew who to ask, and for what. (FOIA requests have to be very specific, especially for contentious issues, o'wise you will be stonewalled.)

We should be looking to see if our own bioweapon people had any hand in this, too.

The materials reveal that the resulting novel, laboratory-generated SARS-related coronaviruses also could infect mice engineered to display human receptors on cells ("humanized mice").

The materials further reveal for the first time that one of the resulting novel, laboratory-generated SARS-related coronaviruses--one not been previously disclosed publicly--was more pathogenic to humanized mice than the starting virus from which it was constructed...

...and thus not only was reasonably anticipated to exhibit enhanced pathogenicity, but, indeed, was *demonstrated* to exhibit enhanced pathogenicity.

chimeric virus is one which is made by combining bits of one virus with another.

This was explained in great detail by Chris Martenson, who highlighted the insertion very early in the pandemic.

BECAUSE everything else we could ever possibly do is a double-edged sword, and since humans are the ones wielding it, we're always going to use the bad edge first.

There is very little ROI in future innovation of any kind for humanity when all of the inevitable negatives are taken into account. And that statement is being very generous.

More specifically, any further innovation only benefits the top 1%.

They derive plenty from further innovation. A short list, just off the top of my head...

1. Easy access to cutting edge bio-weapons.
2. A.I. and automation that will further replace the need for human labor.
3. A.I. and machine learning that will better destroy privacy and turn every corner of the planet into a highly censored surveillance state.
4. Better weapons with which to kill people more efficiently with.
5. Better understanding about the human body and how to better exploit it to never cure anything but only offer expensive treatments for life that you can't live without.

None of this benefits you or I in the slightest.

We're way beyond the days of living without electricity and having a life expectancy of 40 years. There once was a day where there was plenty of room for innovation benefiting every person.

Those days are LONG gone.

I know this is way off-topic, SIX, but you bring up an interesting point about the advancement of knowledge and it's application, which is technology.

Scientist are driven by the desire to know the causes of all the effects that we see. What causes lightning and thunder? The gods, forging on their great anvils in the sky? What causes disease? Curses? Bad air?

The APPLICATION of that knowldege, however, is driven by different motivations. In a general sense, technology is driven by a very human desire for more reward with less work, and a more certain future that is not shaken apart by disease or catastrophic weather, or all of the natural events that we couldn't explain, much less predict or do anything about. It's about human attempts to control the world and to make it less effortful to live in.

In one of my long-ago posts about Society as an Organism, I tried to explore the idea that society is like an organism, and just as we have cells that make up our bodies ... cells which have no idea of the greater creature of which they are a part ... we, too, make up parts of a greater whole which we can barely perceive. What ties a society together - its language, technology, ethos, etc ... will decide how successful that society will be.

Furthermore, societies, like all organisms, are born, grow, adapt, and die. And that, in a world of multiple societies, there is also evolution: some societies will be more successful, others will be out-competed.

Anyway, I brought all of that up to bring up a long-term and repeating pattern: All great societies so far, at their peak, used more energy per capita than the previous great society. That is because each great society, if it has not lost the history of its science and technology, is able to build on the science and technology of the past, or other societies.

We have gone from being able to use human energy alone, to using fire to stay warm and cook food thru- successively- animal power and charcoal; wind and water power; coal and steam power; petroleum power; electricity; and nuclear power. (thank you KIKI/RUE for that thought.)

WHAT is this energy use for?

MOSTLY, to be able to produce more stuff with less HUMAN effort, and move it arounf from here to there. From the treadle-operated spindle and loom to the water wheel-driven power looms to today's electricity-operated machines which card, spin, dye, and weave, with little human effort.

Each application of technology has taken us humans out of the picture more and more. We don't need to work as much, or think as much, or learn as much, as we used to. As individuals we no longer need to be able to look at the sky and figure if we should plant or harvest tomorrow, or shear the sheep; or how to card, spin and weave wool; or how to preserve food; or store grain; or the thousand-and-one things that "primitive" people needed to know that we no longer need to pay attention to. Because of our use of external power and division of labor, our lives are much SIMPLER. We can spend lots of time doing ...nothing. Sitting at a computer communicating with people far away.

And I think it makes us, at heart, uncomfortable because we have NO AGENCY, and so disengaged from reality that we think our "feelz" mean something, in the real world. So we expect mostly unrealistically, with no way make it come true.

I'm not advocating a return to life as we lived it 1000 years ago. We still want our antibiotics and our power looms and glass plants and steel mills and eletricity. Right?

But I think there is a "Goldilocks zone" for people, one where everyone is engaged with enough work to satisfy the need to know that WE are contributing to our own survival, doing meaningful work that others will pay for, and not just dangling off as some supernumary part of some big blob.

And the reason WHY we can't create this "Goldilocks zone" of

"Burning scientists at the stake" was a bit of hyperbole, but you seem to get my point otherwise.

Zero good trickles down to the masses anymore from any further advances in technology.

Most of this is because of TPTB, but we can't completely shrug off our own responsibility with this either.

Sure... People are addicted to their smart phones BECAUSE everything about them was designed to be addictive, but there was a time where I drank 4 liters of soda per day as well as the time where I drank 150 cans of Icehouse per week as well as the 12 year period where I smoked weed every single day. I've smoked cigarettes for over 20 years now. And in the absence of booze, I drink up to 24 cups of coffee in a day.

Nobody forced me to do any of that. But it was all just "there", with most of it being heavily marketed so it was never really out of your mind.

I only know two people in my small circle of influence who really did anything productive during the pandemic. I'm spending most of my time with them now when I'm not working on my own projects. Neither of them put on any "Covid 15", sitting around binge watching netflix or looking at their smart phones all day long.

Most of the other people I know are less healthy both physically and mentally over the last year and a half.

That wouldn't be the case if all of this happened 40 years ago with the tech we had back then.

Right.

I'm saying maybe a return to 50 years ago would be good. At the very least, it would be nice if we could just stop any further "progress". At this point, I think everything about the word "progress" has become negative. It's no longer a good word.

Signym, you have so many excellent ideas, none of which could ever get passed in the Senate so long as there are more than 33 Republican Senators, but collecting taxes could be done without passing any new laws with a few thousand extra auditors at IRS. That budget item for the IRS would also require getting passed by the Senate, because highly skilled auditors have to be well paid or else they will go work for the wealthiest Americans (while the typical IRS drone is poorly paid), but collecting all the taxes would bring in an extra $1 trillion per year from the richest Americans, the top 1%.

The Delta variant continues to ravage the unvaccinated and sicken so many, with the country hitting the dark milestone of 40 million Covid cases. And about 1,500 Americans are dying every day -- almost all of them not fully vaccinated.

The people who are refusing the vaccine and refusing to mask up aren't just killing themselves and infecting their neighbors. They're destroying the American economy. The stubborn refusal of so many Americans to get vaccinated and wear masks is likely to continue doing damage in the weeks and months ahead, as kids go back to school, the weather cools and more activities move inside. Cue still more economic devastation.

Let's be clear about who is responsible: the anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers and their proponents in conservative media and in the Republican Party.

Just to address today's research ...

Research today is NOT mostly done by a person sitting in a patent office thinking about a traveler on a moving train.

It's mostly done (funded) by governments, that fund research groups that are now mostly focused on patents and IP, with BIG BUSINESS circling like vultures hoping to make profits off the meat made by those groups; the other arms of governments fund weapons offense/ defense with secret research that for the most part nobody will know about for at least a decade.

There is basically
1) government-funded research driven by economic warfare
2) government-funded research driven by military warfare.

We're in a global research cold war. Just stopping isn't an option. Our zero-sum infected everyone, everywhere it touched: win or die. And we've gone so far for so long trying to touch everywhere exploitable around the globe. Now all those historic zero-sum losers are in the game to win, or aligning themselves with a side they think will win. That's why zero-sum, once started, is hard to stop. For example, if we stop, we'll be caught by surprise from behind by all those historic zero-sum losers we created. (I give Putin a lot of credit for finding for Russia a way out of the game as much as possible.)

Anyway, it's plain we're - the voters in a 'democracy' - not driving this bus. If we were, different decisions would have been made.

Killing the scientists wouldn't work. Because SOME places would understand that having scientists in the face of those that didn't would make them winners. And they wouldn't kill theirs.

Health spending per person in the U.S. was $10,966 in 2019, which was 42% higher than Switzerland, the country with the next highest per capita health spending.
If American voters were driving this country, or even looking out the window as the scenery goes by, they wouldn't agree to this high a level of defense spending:
"Countries with the highest military spending worldwide in 2020"

According to the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, the outlays for defense will rise from a low of 596 billion U.S. dollars in 2014, to 915 billion U.S. dollars by 2031. Between 2013 and 2022, it is projected that the United States will spend 392 billion U.S. dollars on nuclear weapons
It is obvious who is driving the country but the U.S. Senate will not be changing drivers for someone less greedy, although the Senate could.

this story caught my notice because I thought, maybe suspending research over this case, or maybe the French govt looked over and said "oh no you don't" or rather "mais non! zut alors! tu ne le fais pas!"

a vaccine trusting public in such a world is a sitting duck. If someone wanted to annihilate a country, CJD has an average survival time of 8 months and is 100% fatal. With the delayed onset, it would go unnoticed for weeks or months. That's going to be enough time for a weaponized vaccination program to exterminate the populace.

Now, I know, you're thinking like I am, that someone in France will catch this, but, will they? do we trust them to? and then skipping that, what about a country that's looking over at Colombia or Cambodia and saying "hey, nice piece of lang you've got there." Or China looking to acquire another south east asian puppet, or that country looking to stop them.

The best way we can plan for this is be aware of it and then build a biodefense, but also a chaotic society is going to survive this way better than a well ordered one.

chimeric virus is one which is made by combining bits of one virus with another.
This was explained in great detail by Chris Martenson, who highlighted the insertion very early in the pandemic.

You weren't here for it, but I've been posting for OVER A YEAR NOW that the virus looked like it had been deliberately altered, and Dr Martenson pointed out the exact insertion over a year ago that made this virus so different from its nearest bat relatives and so efficient at fusing with human cells.

It just seemed too much of a coincidence that the outbreak started in the same city where the research was being done. So I've had a strong suspicion for a long time that this was not a "natural" crossover; the idea was IMHO hogwash. And when the WHO "investiated" the Wuhan lab(s) and didn't ask for any research documentation, that viertually nailed the case for me. Now, instead of being 99% sure, I'm 100% sure.

"Gain of function" research can be done for offensive (weapons) purposes, for defensive purposes, or just for plain research.
But I never thought that the virus was released on purpose. Why would China shoot itself in the foot? Shit happens.

BTW, yes, you DID post that the vaccine was a bioweapon, more than once

Too bad, 6ix, but since you don't pay any income tax, why should government listen to your whiny complaints? In total, about 60.6 percent of households paid no federal income taxes.
https://taxfoundation.org/us-households-paying-no-income-tax/

And on a day-to-day basis, many more than the 60.6% of Americans who don't pay taxes also make approximately zero contribution to society. By that I mean if they didn't come to work or if they stayed home living as recluses for a month or forever, there would be no noticeable difference after a brief, less than a week, adjustment in other peoples' lives.

I look forward to millions of Trump voters learning the horrifying truth that quitting their jobs because they would rather not be vaccinated makes no long-term difference in the world of work. Work will go on without them:

But it may not need to get dedlier. Az per my theory, the 2 virusez will conspire to bring us down by degrading the connective tissuez uv society.

Its happening now with all the trumptard antivax antimask antiany-defensiv-measure ijits helping C19 proliferate. The hospitalz are being overworked. shutdownz are hobbling the economy. returants and liesure companyz are going under. The goverments cant print fake money forever.

The economy has recovered from far worse in the past. But like a tree that's withstood multiple droughts and multiple insect attacks, it may not have enough reserves at this point.

But that we did that to ourselves. It's not the strength of the virus that could do us in, at least, not in its current form. And it's not the means to defend ourselves from the virus either. It's the existing damage we're carrying that we've already done to ourselves.

Here's an example: I was listening on the radio to something weird going on, on my way in to work, on September 11, 2001. When I got to work, of course everyone was riveted by what was going on. (And btw, the people I worked with are so smart they had it figured out in under 5 minutes ...why crash planes into buildings, why choose planes loaded with fuel for cross-country flights to crash into buildings, why the Twin Towers and the Pentagon ... and so on.)

All the while I was thinking to myself - we're a big country. The damage itself is minuscule compared to the economy. We can recover, we can learn, and come out stronger. This can't ultimately hurt us.

And then ... we invaded Afghanistan, right when the Taliban had offered to turn bin Laden over to the ICC. Why Afghanistan? I wondered to myself. It had nothing to do with 9/11. It offered to turn bin Laden over to the ICC. That seemed more than sufficient to get justice.

And a mere months later, despite that 95% of the country was so hot to smoke bin Laden, and without even killing or capturing him, or even laying eyes on him, the entire country was intentionally pivoted - which it did swiftly and frictionlessly - to Iraq. I was amazed - and I'm still amazed to this day. It's like the entire country had collectively and all at once become untethered to its memories from a mere few months earlier, and 9/11, and the reason why we started a war at all.

So here we are 21 TRILLION dollars later, gone with only bad results from all that spending, and oh, let's not forget death and destruction and ongoing costs as a result.

We did that to ourselves.

We weakened ourselves.

And that's only one example of the damage we've done to ourselves as a country.

Can the country survive COVID-19? Maybe. Probably. But not necessarily in good shape. But it's not about COVID-19. It's about the fact that we've deeply weakened ourselves.

This was written February 25, 2002:

Bin Laden’s secret strategy is to prod the United States into bankruptcy. This is not a short-term strategy. Osama bin Laden and his supporters around the world are digging in for the long haul, waiting for the day when the United States can no longer afford the war on terrorism and begins to wilt under the weight of unilateralism.

Bin Laden has spoken of his successful campaign against the Soviet Union. The mujahedin kicked the Soviet army out of Afghanistan and, they believe, caused the demise of the empire. In those days, bin Laden and Ronald Reagan were strategic bedfellows. They expected the Soviets to be defeated militarily. The mujahedin tested this theory on the ground. While the Reagan administration contributed to this effort with weapons and training, it was also simultaneously waging a campaign of economic warfare. Ronald Reagan engaged the Soviet Union in a budget-busting arms race designed to bankrupt its rival superpower.

Bin Laden has apparently absorbed the Reagan strategy. It is difficult to know whether he really thought that a handful of terrorist acts would hobble the United States or that al Qaeda and the Taliban could defeat the U.S. and its allies in Afghanistan. What he must have anticipated, however, was the predictable U.S. response: to throw money at the Pentagon.

The Bush administration has obliged by lifting defense spending into the stratosphere.

I've read that before. Since no one can interview bin Laden, and he left no writings behind, and no statements about his secret heart, all thoughts on his intentions are speculation.

What the mujaheddin had v the USSR was lots covert US help. But it would have no help v the US. Tactically, that makes the 2 situations unlike each other. And it would all depend on the US getting into Afghanistan and staying in Afghanistan, despite the country having no resource or strategic value. And that makes any hypothetically intended future 'victory' tenuous.

But the US did blunder into Afghanistan (btw with the yea votes of a majority of democratic* Senators) ... and stay in (with the agreement of a majority of democratic* Senators) ... and expand to Iraq (with the agreement of a majority of democratic* Senators) ... and that probably wasn't on bin Laden's radar at all.

If the US had limited itself to Afghanistan, I think we'd be in far better shape economically.

But Afghanistan and Iraq aren't the only 2 US policy pieces of crap that hurt the country. There are plenty of others.

So, to tie this back in to COVID-19 - the US has taken plenty of self-inflicted hits that have weakened it deeply. That makes it less likely the US will comes out of COVID-19 in reasonable shape.

You are incorrect:

Bin Laden’s worldview and the thinking behind the 9/11 attack are laid bare in a trove of internal communications that were recovered in May 2011, when U.S. special operations forces killed bin Laden during a raid on the compound in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad where he had spent his final years hiding.

I would like to say that your war with us is the longest war in your history and the most expensive for you financially. As for us, we see it as being only halfway finished. If you were to ask your wise thinkers, they would tell you that there is no way to win it because the indications are against it. How will you win a war whose leaders are pessimistic and whose soldiers are committing suicide? If fear enters the hearts of men, winning the war becomes impossible. How will you win a war whose cost is like a hurricane blowing violently at your economy and weakening your dollar?

The Bush administration got you into these wars on the premise that they were vital to your security. He promised that it would be a quick war, won within six days or six weeks; however, six years have passed, and they are still promising you victory and not achieving it. Then Obama came and delayed the withdrawal that he had promised you by 16 more months. He promised you victory in Afghanistan and set a date for withdrawal from there. Six months later, Petraeus came to you once again with the number six, requesting that the withdrawal be delayed six months beyond the date that had been set. All the while you continue to bleed in Iraq and Afghanistan. You are wading into a war with no end in sight on the horizon and which has no connection to your security . . .

JO753: Too many variablez to say. It coud still mutate to be far dedlier. (The orijinal SARS had a 9% fatality rate!)

True. Coronaviruses, being single-stranded, have a high mutation rate. And since the most infectious viruses outcompete others, evolutionary pressures will ensure a drift towards greater infectiousness. But infectiousness doesn't mean deadliness.

Also, note that I said THIS virus. THIS virus is not a society-killer, unless we shoot ourselves in the foot trying to kill it.

Quote:

JO753:But it may not need to get dedlier.

All C19 haz to do iz keep up this pase and eventually the accumulating damaj

You bring up many good points. Our response to the virus is overly politicized, chaotic, and deeply dyfunctional on BOTH sides.

JO753: See?! Even relativly reazonable peepl can float that notion with a strate fase. It only helps the virus!
The defensiv action hurts, so you stop, but then the attacker gets to hit harder. Cach-22.

You can't rely on lockdowns forever. First of all, unless we have COMPLETE control of our borders (HA!) it simply WILL NOT WORK. And even if we had good border control, like Australia and New Zealand ... they've relied on lockdowns and they STILL pop up with the virus every now and again which causes another lockdown!

I support the use of lockdowns as a circuit-breaker, but certainly not to be used for more than a month or two, until we can get a better handle on how a virus behaves and how we can control its spread.

Quote:

JO753: If you must hav a 100 pound shield to defend yourself, the attakr only needz to wait till your armz get tired.

But we don't NEED a 100-lb shield. The infection fatality rate for THIS virus (even the delta version) is somewhere around 0.07% for people younger than 45. And the younger you get, the lower the IFR until it becomes vanishingly small.

It is a deadly disease for the young obese, and the older you get, the deadlier it becomes, until you reach an IFR of about 10% for males in the 80+ age group.

https://www.acsh.org/news/2020/11/18/covid-infection-fatality-rates-se
x-and-age-15163

So, fighting THIS virus means protecting a vulnerable subgroup, not the entire peopulaiton

This is not like an Ebola outbreak with an IFR of around 90pct.

IF we were fighting a virus that deadly, all kinds of measures would be necessary.

But as of now, the problem is that nobody trusts ANY government, either Dem or Rep in, to take practical, measured steps to combat the virus. And thanks to that well-deserved lack of trust in government and the media, all kinds of whacky conspiracy theories are rooting in the American blogosphere.

You were addressing what bin Laden INTENDED with 9/11 by referring to some made up bullshit from 2002. It turns out that, when compared to his statements of what he actually INTENDED with 9/11, you and your bullshit were wrong.

What he INTENDED, as he clearly states in your link, was a global Muslim awakening to the possibility of global jihad.

That bin Laden later reflected on 9/11 with the experience of hindsight and came to a conclusion that what he INTENDED didn't work out (which he clearly states), but what happened was the economic weakening of the US (which he also clearly states), doesn't negate that his early intentions were not what your bullshit claimed they were.

What Biden's vaccine mandate is really doing is giving cover to businesses that wanted to do this anyway. Until now, these businesses risked looking partisan if they mandated vaccines, but now they can simply say that it's the law and they have no choice. It lets them off the hook for making the decision.

And what will companies do to employees who refuse to get vaccinated or tested? I assume every company will decide for itself, but again, I think it's beside the point. What's important is that there are lots of people who will do something merely because it's "officially required." We saw the same thing with the Obamacare mandate: the fine didn't really matter. The mere fact that insurance became legally required was enough to make most people comply, even if they grumbled about it. It may not seem like it sometimes, but Americans really are mostly pretty law-abiding folks.

So that's that. The mandate gives cover to businesses and a quasi-legal mandate to individuals. But what's most important is that the message it sends—we're finally serious about this—should be enough to get a lot more people vaccinated regardless of its eventual legal status.

Anyway, back to COVID-19 and the current state of the US economy.

Certainly the war in Afghanistan and a larger war in Iraq and their combined 22 TRILLION spending with no benefit to the US is something that weakened the US considerably, and which I believe is putting the US in a position where it may not be able to recover from COVID-19 in a good state.

In fact, my contention is that the US was in a precarious state already, even without COVID-19.

Every country has Covid skeptics, anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers. The United States is hardly the only place where some people are afraid of vaccines, angry at pandemic restrictions, open to wild conspiracy theories, and distrustful of experts. But there's one key reason why the world's wealthiest nation, home to many of the planet's top public health experts, is the red-hot bubbling epicenter of a pandemic that just won't quit.

The US is one of a few major countries where the people pushing against common-sense measures hold positions of power, where they can shape policy, influence large swaths of the population, and weaponize the pandemic for their own political benefit. (In Brazil, another place where this has happened, President Jair Bolsonaro faces investigations for his pandemic shenanigans and their catastrophic consequences).

Some in the Republican Party have turned the coronavirus crisis into the vehicle they hope will propel them to new political heights. It's a cynical game. If Biden fails to contain the pandemic, their hope is that they can use that failure to gain control of Congress in the 2022 midterm elections and pave the way for a Republican president in 2024.

After Biden revealed his six-step plan against the still raging pandemic, which includes vaccines mandates, Fox News slammed him as an "authoritarian," and Republican officials vowed to fight his new mandates in court. It was another battle in their campaign to defeat Biden by undercutting America's public health efforts.

Evidence of this strategy was visible at the Conservative Political Action Conference in July, when the crowds cheered after a speaker said the US government failed to "sucker" people into getting vaccinated. (Biden wanted to get 70% of the population vaccinated with at least one shot by July 4, a goal the US reached a month later). Imagine that -- they were effectively cheering for the virus.

Meanwhile, individual politicians are focused on advancing their own careers. It seems people like Florida's Gov. Ron DeSantis, Texas' Gov. Greg Abbott, and others, are trying to outdo each other with measures that defy common sense. One could be forgiven for thinking they want the virus to win.

Their goal is to try to emerge as the heirs to former President Donald Trump, who pushed against the guidance of public health experts, motivated at least in part, no doubt, by fears of what pandemic restrictions might do to the economy, and hence to his reelection prospects. Trump also urged his followers to take on Democratic governors who were desperately trying to keep hospitals and morgues from overflowing with Covid victims. "LIBERATE MICHIGAN!" and "LIBERATE MINNESOTA!" he tweeted in all caps, among many other inflammatory and harmful exhortations.

It seems his would-be heirs took note of the way Trump's bravado appealed to his followers, so now they are taking up the mantle to look tough . . .

Actually, that's not true. If you look at per-capita cases and deaths, the USA is about the middle of the pack. Some nations, like Luxemburg and Belgium, had huge caseloads early. Others, like Israel managed to avoid the early virus but got nailed by delta, even with high vaccination rates. Same thing with deaths. Spain, UK, Luxemburg, Belgium, Sweden etc had higher death rates early. I think because they had widespread infection, they may now have a resistant population.

Vaccine mandate is NOT, IMHO, a "public health issue". The current vaccine is pretty good at protecting against serious disease, but not so good at preventing transmission. Forcing someone else to get a vaccine to keep ME healthy doesn't work because that's not how the vaccine works. The vulnerable should be vaccinated, and if necessary take further precautions ... such as limiting exposure and wearing an N95 in public. Elder-care facilities need to be extra-vigilant about isolation techniques.

Natural infection confers longer-lasting and more robust resistance to disease. From a purely SELFISH POV, I want everyone who does not want to be vaccinated to go out and get infected as quickly as possible. That way, they will either be dead (unlikely) or be more resistant to the NEXT variant that rolls around and I, as a result, will be protected.

I will, of course, be standing in line for the latest vaccine agai

‘It Took Her So Fast’: 4-Year-Old Texas Preschooler Dies of COVID Within Hours of First Symptoms

A Texas preschooler died of COVID-19 this week within hours of a fever first coming on, her family says. Kali Cook, 4, died in her sleep early Tuesday morning, about five hours after she was found to have a fever, her mother Karra Harwood told the Houston Chronicle.

Getting the vaccine can still feel like an act of treason

CNN had come to Carter County, in the Ozark Mountains, in October 2020, when coronavirus was starting to hit rural America. At the time, the debate was over masks, and it was very political. "We sit in the coffee shop and we see someone wearing a mask and we think: Democrat," Brian Keathley said last fall, weeks before he got the virus.

CNN came back in August to see what had changed since last fall and what hadn't -- and why, if people here personally knew so many people who got sick, just 27% of the county is fully vaccinated.

"I had both shots of the vaccine, and people just acted like, 'Oh, it doesn't help,'" Cheryl Wetton said. "It bothers me sometimes that people act like Covid is a big joke. I always want to say, 'Well, why don't you just come right up here to the cemetery, and I'll show you my husband's grave? And I can show you it's no joke.'"

Wetton actually did say that to a guy in town, she later confirmed. "He just got real quiet."

There was "no way" Tara Chitwood would get the vaccine. Her mom had gotten vaccinated, she said, and got sick anyway. "I've survived this long," Chitwood said, and then expressed a fatalism we heard a lot: She was going to die of something, eventually.

"Nobody died for a long time, so it's taken a while for people to get serious," Jim Rodebush said. The Delta variant is what made it more serious. "It spread so fast. We've had, I guess, 15 people die here." (It is now 16 in Carter County.)
Rodebush's wife Ruth fought cancer for 12 years, he said. Covid-19 killed her in eight days. She died July 20, 2021. "I talked to her up until the Sunday before she died," Rodebush said. "She said, 'This is bad, I think you all need to get the shot.' And I think she's right."

Neither had been vaccinated. Ruth had said her doctor had told her not to get the vaccine because of her chemo, Rodebush said. "I was pretty skeptical of it until I watched all this happen," he said. Now, he plans to get the shot.

When Ruth was dying, the hospital called at about 2:30 a.m., so Rodebush and his son went to see her. The Covid-19 ward was eerie -- dark, everyone in protective gear, the patients on ventilators, which he knew was the end of the line.

"There's nothing good about it," he said. "I don't ever want to go back in one."
They'd watched our 2020 story for CNN, and he thought it was "bullsh*t." He knew everyone in the video -- every single one of them. At the time, he thought they were wrong about masks, but now it was more visceral. "Those boys sitting in the coffee shop don't know what they're talking about when they're talking about Covid. They need to walk through the Covid ward. That'll change your mind. Just stay a day there. See how you like it. It's a different story then."

In Missouri, as well as in Arkansas and Tennessee, many people have said they're at peace with the possibility they could die from Covid-19 because they know they're right with God. "If I lose the battle to it, I know where I'm going. I get to go the heavens," Brandon Helvey said. And Tom Wilder said, "I believe if the good Lord wants me right now, it doesn't matter if I take a vaccine or I don't. If he wants me to go, he's going to take me."

This kind of "fatalism" usually melts away, Dr. Chris Cochran said, with the intimacy of a one-on-one visit to his office, Cochran said. But what remains is peer pressure to not get vaccinated. "People have banded together for security, like people do in any crisis," he said. But bad information had been introduced to those circles, and attempts to correct it had made them close tighter.

"It's a real, severe, heavy peer pressure in their church, in their family, in their fr

A young child dying of Covid is tragic, for sure, but it's also rare. And to die THAT quickly means something truly unique happened. Maybe she had an unknown heart defect, or developed septic shock bc in my experience those are the only things that can take someone out that fast. (I've known two people who died of septic shock - one was hubby's surgeon and another was a guy who worked for me- and it began with an inconsequnetial infection that killed them in one and two days, respectively.)

But using the death of one child to score points is just gross. More children die in car accidents. What are you going to do about THAT, THGR?

*****

There is some dispute whether the delta version of SARS-CoV2 has a higher infection fatality rate (IFR). For sure, it spreads at least twice as fast so more people get sick overall. I tried looking up it's IFR. Some say it's so far indistinguishable from the original version

https://healthfeedback.org/claimreview/there-is-no-evidence-that-the-d

An early paper said it was twice as likely to lead to hospitalization as the original version
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)013

But so far, nobody seems to have come up with a definitive answer as to whether or not the delta version is actually "deadlier".

BOTH parties have made this a political issue because BOTH parties have ridiculous policies. Fauci (for example) waffled on masking, when he should have told the truth: We need to reserve masks for emergency and healthcare staff. Democrats insisted on longterm and repeated lockdowns. "Face covering" is not sufficient and quite often is virtue-signalling.

OTOH being anti-vax is just stupid, which is where the Republicans are.

BOTH parties are using Covid-19 to attempt to score points and gain power.

Interesting but unbalanced study

Quote:

For boys 12-15 without medical comorbidities receiving their second mRNA vaccination dose, the rate of CAE is 3.7 to 6.1 times higher than their 120-day COVID-19 hospitalization risk as of August 21, 2021 (7-day hospitalizations 1.5/100k population) and 2.6-4.3-fold higher at times of high weekly hospitalization risk (7-day hospitalizations 2.1/100k), such as during January 2021. For boys 16-17 without medical comorbidities, the rate of CAE is currently 2.1 to 3.5 times higher than their 120-day COVID-19 hospitalization risk, and 1.5 to 2.5 times higher at times of high weekly COVID-19 hospitalization.

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.30.21262866v1

What this study purports to do is assess the risks of vaccination v the risk of Covid for teenagers.

While it's an important concept, here is where I find the study is badly framed:

1) The ENDPOINTS are different. One arm of the study (the vaccinated group) was checked for "myocarditis", which is not necessarily hospitalized. (A guy who worked for me had myocarditis from a non-Covid flu [this was years before the pandemic] and all they did was give him steroids and he took a week off.) The NONvaccinated group endpoint was "hospitalization", not myocarditis. So this study is comparing apples to oranges, and I would bet that in the "vaccinated" group there were far fewer hospitalizations than there were dxd cases of myocarditis, so by choosing two different endpoints the researchers exaggerated the apparent risk of vaccination.

2) The POPULATIONS are different. In the vaccinated group, the "infection rate" is 100%. We know that because these teens were deliberately injected with the spike protein. In the UNvaccinated group, we don't know what the infection rate is. But let's say that it was 30% (which some studies indicate is reasonable) By choosing a population that is not universally infected with SARS-CoV2, these researchers haev downplayed the risk of hospitalization from Covid-19.

How does that work?
If you have a randomly-selected population of teens of unknown infection status, and one goes to the hospital, the risk of hospitalization is 1%. But lets say that 33 are infected and the remainder are not. The risk of hospitalization IF INFECTED is 1/33, or 3%.

So by inflating the apparent risk from vaccination and downplaying the risk from Covid, the authors get to claim that vaccination is riskier than SARS-CoV2. In reality, it's probably the other way around, but we would never be able to tell from this paper.

If you notice in your Rachel Madcow video, JO, she interviews ... not a medical doctor, health director, or epidemologist to discuss what's going on in Idaho, but a DEMOCRAT in the STATE LEGISLATURE.

Bias, much?

Also, Rachel Madcowhas, among the many other pieces of disinfo that she spews, spread the "horse dewormer" story (which was proven to be FALSE) via Twitter

Quote:

MSNBC silent as Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid amplify false story on ivermectin overdoses

MSNBC is staying silent as two of the network's biggest stars amplified a false story without issuing any sort of mea culpa.

Last week, several members of the liberal media nationalized a local report out of Oklahoma that completely spun remarks a doctor made to depict that overdoses of ivermectin have overwhelmed the hospital system so much so that "gunshot victims" aren't able to be treated. Such claims were debunked by the hospital system itself.

Rachel Maddow shared the KFOR report to her 10 million Twitter followers using the headline, "Patients overdosing on ivermectin backing up rural Oklahoma hospitals, ambulances" as well as a quote from the article, "'The scariest one I’ve heard of and seen is people coming in with vision loss,' he said."

The MSNBC star faced enough backlash from critics for her name to trend on Twitter, but regardless of the uproar, Maddow's tweet remained intact seven days later.

How many times do you need Rachel Madcow to lie to you before you stop trusting her?

Here's a thought, JO: Stop watching Rachel Madcow. Don't quote her or link to any of her videos. That will take you a long way to eliminating the disinfo and bad programming infecting your brain.

Sorry not sorry that I've offended your delicate sensibilities, JO.

If you took the vaccine, what the fuck are you worried about then?

Impossible.

It needs Rachel Maddow to tell it what to think everyday.

Your .07% fatality rate iz misleading. Unless you are advocating a global culling program, its better to go by the big picture.

No, that's the CDC talking. That's where I got my infection fatality rates from. THIS virus reaps 1-10% of the retired/elderly and the obese young. But normally healthy individuals below retirement age are not at high risk of dying from Covid-19. If you want to argue that point, argue with the CDC. Or, yanno, follow the science and not some blowhard named Rachel.

You seem to need to create super-villain enemies of almost magical proportions out of this virus, or Putin. THIS virus is not the "society killer" that you imagine.

Now, the Black Death that has an overall 30% mortality rate... THERE was a society-killer!

There is a caveat to semi-permanent lockdowns being "the answer" (which you previously said WASN'T the answer, so make up your mind!) YOU MUST HAVE PERFECT CONTROL OF YOUR BORDERS.

The latest breakout in Australia was caused by an airport shuttle driver catching it from a group of visitors, and then one sick Kiwi who went back home took it to NZ and caused an outbreak there.

So, what is YOUR proposed 100-lb shield?

Halting the virus, like all endeavors, is a balance of resources. At some point, you do more harm than good.

ALSO, you're mixing up CASE fatality rate versus INFECTION fatality rate. Many times, especially in poor nations, an infection doesn't come to notice until someone is really sick ... almost dead. ONLY THEN are they tested.

In order to calculate the INFECTION fatality rate, one must have a true picture of the number of people infected, even if asymptomaticaly or very mildly. That means RANDOM TESTING FOR INFECTION across the population. I doubt India, or Colombia, or S Africa or any of the poorer nations are doing that. By nature of the calculation, CASE mortality rate is always higher - by quite a bit- than INFECTION fatality rate. CASE fatality rate creates an exaggerated picture

I have always said that US policies, internal and external, are not really the result of careful planning as they are the result of various interests/entities using their influence and power to “pull” US policies in the way they want. And since there are A LOT of various interests/entities, especially in important cases, what we see is not a “policy outcome” but only a “sum vector”, an “outcome” which is the sum of all the different pulling and the relative strength of the folks doing that pulling.

I believe that this process has only been magnified but by an order of magnitude. What we see today in the US ruling elites is a huge “cover your ass”, “run for your life”, “protect yourself and your future” and even “grab it while you still can” and NOT, repeat, NOT “real” policies. Those who believe in a grand conspiracy fail to realize that what happened in Kabul is not the exception, it is the rule! Kabul was a giant spotlight which finally showed the true face of the US military to the entire planet: not the Tom Clancy kind of patriotic delusional hallucinations or Hollywood, but the “real reality” filmed “on the ground” on cheap but ubiquitous cellphones, by both Afghani and even US/NATO servicemen’s!
