Oh, BTW... My 30 year old vaccinated cousin was diagnosed last week with Leukemia. Not the "good" kind either.
I know that they don't really know why somebody will get it, and getting it at 30 isn't unheard of. I also know it's not considered a hereditary disease although it's genetic.
That being said, there is no history of Leukemia on my dad's side of the family. He was physically fit with an athletic build on the skinny side with no prior health issues. Not a smoker. Not a drinker.
Now his fiancee gets to decide whether she's going to stick around for 5 or so painful years or cut and run. And I couldn't blame her if she did. Poor kid.
There's going to be hell to pay if that was a side effect.

In addition, Pfizer has agreed to pay $1 billion to resolve allegations under the civil False Claims Act that the company illegally promoted four drugs – Bextra; Geodon, an anti-psychotic drug; Zyvox, an antibiotic; and Lyrica, an anti-epileptic drug – and caused false claims to be submitted to government health care programs for uses that were not medically accepted indications and therefore not covered by those programs. The civil settlement also resolves allegations that Pfizer paid kickbacks to health care providers to induce them to prescribe these, as well as other, drugs. The federal share of the civil settlement is $668,514,830 and the state Medicaid share of the civil settlement is $331,485,170. . . . I tried multiple official avenues to reach Tim Minear, the director and co-writer of the Firefly episode "The Message" and current showrunner of 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star. None of them panned out. So last week, I broke out my investigative tool kit normally used to excavate the misbehavior of political candidates ...
Basically, I dug up Minear’s personal cell number and cold-called him. Fortunately, instead of hanging up, he graciously took the time to field my questions.
So, why was the mailman Jewish? “We were trying to make the character more real,” he explained. “When you have someone who’s only there for a couple scenes, you want to find ways to make them seem more substantial.” By giving the galactic postal clerk a clear Jewish identity, the show gestured to a wider world beyond what was explicitly seen on screen. “We wanted it to feel like he had an existence outside of the frame.”
This answer sounds simple, but it’s actually quite unusual for mainstream television. Typically, whenever a show introduces a visibly Jewish character (such as Amnon the Mailman in "The Message") it’s to make some point about their faith in service of the story. Too often, religious Jews are oddities whose strange practices serve as convenient plot devices. What makes Amnon remarkable, however, is that he is not remarkable. None of the characters in Firefly comment on his faith, because it is entirely unexceptional to them. In this universe, 500 years into the distant future, Jews are not a curiosity or a plot point or an endangered species, but simply a normal everyday presence.
And that might be the most daringly hopeful message of all.
While Googling further to tie up some loose ends, I found an obituary. Al Pugliese (Firefly’s space Jew mailman) died on July 24, 2021. He was 74.
Pugliese’s obituary says that he died “due to complications from Covid-19.” Scrolling through his social-media feeds, I soon realized that he likely was not vaccinated. Between many citations from scripture, he’d shared conspiratorial content highly critical of vaccination and lockdowns, along with many other views foreign to my own, like his support for Donald Trump.
The angry and unforgiving world we live in today would tell me to push this person away and cast him aside as part of the problem. But I found myself just wishing that I could talk to him again, and thank him for helping my teenage Orthodox Jewish self discover my experience reflected in a place I never expected. And for reminding me, years later, that despite all the lines we draw, we can see ourselves in each other after all.

This CT scan shows an ARDS (Acute respiratory distress syndrome) which is one of the complications of Covid. Healthy lungs should be black in the CT scan. Only the black parts are getting the oxygen, the rest is blocked by mucus or already necrotic tissue.

And that was it. The day after I was never able to log into YouTube again. All of my playlists and subscriptions were deleted forever.

Why haven't I just created another gmail account so I can log into YouTube again, you may ask? Well... I've actually been advised by a lawyer not to do that. YouTube doesn't do IP bans and although it wouldn't be a chore at all to set that up, their machine learning algorithm is scary accurate and it usually doesn't take them long at all to figure out that you (as a banned person) had created another account. Doing this, and being caught doing it, is a serious violation of Google's TOS. One which could actually see you dragged into court where they might try to throw the book at you and make an example of you.
No ROI on that for me, I'm afraid. I've set my browser bookmarks to handle the channels I was subscribed to now, and I figured I could use a break from the comment section anyhow.

The U.S. government was almost forced to shut down this weekend. A last-minute deal averted that crisis, but another crisis is a couple of weeks away: The government is expected to hit its debt ceiling in the middle of this month, and failure to raise the ceiling would wreak havoc not just with governance but with America’s financial reputation.
Both continuing government funding and raising the debt limit are subject to the filibuster, and many Republican senators won’t support doing either unless Democrats meet their demands.
And what has Republicans so exercised that they’re willing to endanger both the functioning of our government and the nation’s financial stability? Whatever they may say, they aren’t taking a stand on principle — or at least, not on any principle other than the proposition that even duly elected Democrats have no legitimate right to govern.
Republican obstructionists aren’t even pretending to care about red ink. Instead, they’re threatening to shut everything down unless the Biden administration abandons its efforts to fight the coronavirus with vaccine mandates.
What’s that about? As many observers have pointed out, claims that opposition to vaccine mandates (and similar opposition to mask mandates) is about maintaining personal freedom don’t stand up to any kind of scrutiny. No reasonable definition of freedom includes the right to endanger other people’s health and lives because you don’t feel like taking basic precautions.
Furthermore, actions by Republican-controlled state governments, for example in Florida and Texas, show a party that isn’t so much pro-freedom as it is pro-Covid. How else can you explain attempts to prevent private businesses — whose freedom to choose was supposed to be sacrosanct — from requiring that their workers be vaccinated, or offers of special unemployment benefits for the unvaccinated?
The G.O.P. doesn’t look like a party trying to defend liberty; it looks like a party trying to block any effective response to a deadly disease. Why is it doing this?
To some extent it surely reflects a coldly cynical political calculation. Voters tend to blame whichever party holds the White House for anything bad that happens on its watch, which creates an incentive for a sufficiently ruthless party to engage in outright sabotage. Sure enough, Republicans who fought all efforts to contain the coronavirus are now attacking the Biden administration for failing to end the pandemic.
But trying to shut down the government to block vaccinations seems like overreach, even for hardened cynics. It’s notable that Mitch McConnell, whom nobody could accuse of being a do-gooder, isn’t part of the anti-vaccine caucus.
What seems to be happening instead goes beyond cold calculation. Republican politicians now are competing to take ever more extreme positions as a way to demonstrate their loyalty to the cause — and to The Leader. Catering to anti-vaccine hysteria, doing all they can to keep the pandemic going, has become something Republicans do to remain in good standing within the party.
The result is that one of America’s two major political parties isn’t just refusing to help the nation deal with its problems; it’s actively working to make the country ungovernable.
And I hope the rest of us haven’t lost the ability to be properly horrified at this spectacle.
