The 1st wun had a bit uv wire to help conform to the noze protrusion. This iz to help air pass thru the filter insted uv around it and help keep from fogging glassez. Unfortunately the wire iz too thin, so it duznt do a good job.

Omicron seems to be a mild infection which rarely causes hospitalization. Not something I'd personally want to catch, but this focus on "cases" (not deaths) is obvious fear-mongering by various governments so they can clamp down even further. (See "V for Vendetta")
WHY governments want to clamp down, aside from the general desire of most governments to want more control, is a matter of speculation. But I believe they anticipate a general economic and financial breakdown and want the levers already in place to prevent, in essence, a general revolt.
Once more was known about SARS-Cov2, it seems to me that the BEST approach would have been "targeted protection". i.e. protect the vulnerable. If they had done that, we wouldn't have had the farce of sick people being returned to nursing homes, not would we have had all of those general lockdowns and vaccine mandates, and there wouldn't have been such pushback on treatment with ivermectin and pretreatment with HCQ.(But then, the DNC had to repay its pharma donors somehow.)
So the obese, ppl over the age of 50, immune-compromised younger ppl, and those for whatever reason simply concerned about getting sick could have been preferentially prescribed N95s, and assisted (for example) with food deliveries and subsidies to allow them to self-isolate as necessary.
Everyone else willing to take their chances would be allowed.

Israel has added the US and Canada to its travel ban, and it seems likely that other countries are going to start doing the same in the face of the Omicron onslaught.
At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I don't get it. What's the point of all these bans? Omicron is already in every country and it's going to spread whether people travel or not. In fact, since proof of vaccination is required to travel, the people entering all these countries are probably safer than the average resident.
What's more, a grueling five-minute scan of Google suggests that epidemiologists pretty much agree about this. Generally speaking, a travel ban might slow down transmission in a region that hasn't been hit with a particular virus—which means the initial COVID travel bans in early 2020 might have done a little bit of good—but it doesn't do any good if the virus is already there. And in the case of COVID in December 2021, the virus is already everywhere.
So this is all just virus theater, and it's a huge pain in the ass for a lot of people. Why don't we knock off this nonsense and put our energy into stuff that actually has an effect?
China was the target of the initial COVID travel bans in early 2020. They might have done some temporary good, but as this chart shows, probably not much. Countries with and without bans seem to have done about the same.

There are several statistics one can apply to any measure. Of those statistics, one is 'average' (central tendency, with various calculations available such as mean, median, and mode), and another is dispersion (also using various calculations).
What I see in the chart is that 'travel restriction' numbers are evenly scatted all over the graph. But 'no travel restriction' numbers are mainly clustered at the high end.
Travel restrictions obviously CAN work, because they provide a different set of data than having no travel restrictions.
What that indicates to me is that someone needs to figure out the specifics that lead to success with travel restrictions, by examining the places where they did work v the places where they didn't work.
As for the comment about China's travel restrictions not being effective, since it isn't listed on the graph it would be really hard to say using it as an example.
But going by other figures - from DIVOC-91 - countries with travel restrictions like Australia, NZ, Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China did a really good job keeping their numbers very low.
I personally don't think travel restrictions are THE answer. They're a way to buy time, until one can, for example, deploy vaccines.

A global surge of infections in a world where billions of people remain unvaccinated not only threatens the health of vulnerable individuals but also increases the opportunity for the emergence of yet more variants. The disparity in the ability of countries to weather the pandemic will almost certainly deepen. And the news about limited vaccine efficacy against Omicron infection could depress demand for vaccination throughout the developing world, where many people are already hesitant or preoccupied with other health problems.
Most evidence so far is based on laboratory experiments, which do not capture the full range of the body’s immune response, and not from tracking the effect on real-world populations. The results are striking, however.
The Pfizer and Moderna shots use the new mRNA technology, which has consistently offered the best protection against infection with every variant. All of the other vaccines are based on older methods of triggering an immune response.
The Chinese vaccines Sinopharm and Sinovac — which make up almost half of all shots delivered globally — offer almost zero protection from Omicron infection. The great majority of people in China have received these shots, which are also widely used in low-and middle-income countries such as Mexico and Brazil.
A preliminary effectiveness study in Britain found that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine showed no ability to stop Omicron infection six months after vaccination. Ninety percent of vaccinated people in India received this shot, under the brand name Covishield; it has also been widely used across much of sub-Saharan Africa, where Covax, the global Covid vaccine program, has distributed 67 million doses of it to 44 countries.
Researchers predict that Russia’s Sputnik vaccine, which is also being used in Africa and Latin America, will show similarly dismal rates of protection against Omicron.
Demand for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine had been surging in Africa, because its single-shot delivery regimen makes it easy to deliver in low-resource settings. But it too has shown a negligible ability to block Omicron infection.
Antibodies are the first line of defense induced by vaccines. But the shots also stimulate the growth of T cells, and preliminary studies suggest that these T cells still recognize the Omicron variant, which is important in preventing severe disease.
“What you lose first is protection against asymptomatic mild infection, what you retain much better is protection against severe disease and death,” said John Moore, a virologist at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York. He called it “a silver lining” that Omicron so far appears less lethal than the Delta variant.
But this protection will not be enough to prevent Omicron from causing global disruption, said J. Stephen Morrison, director of the Global Health Policy Center at the Center for International and Strategic Studies.

I'd have to go back and dig into the technologies of the various vaccines to see if I can come up with a reasonably valid idea of why only the mRNA vaccines seems to work against infection (even though they weren't developed to guard against infection, only severe disease and death).
But offhand my first surmise is that it was because the mRNA vaccines were based on the entire spike protein (one original version used only a portion of the spike protein but it was never pursued to clinical trials). And that since the entire spike protein was freshly manufactured by the body's own virus-making machines (the ribosomes, which make ALL of the body's proteins), the newly-minted mRNA spike proteins were a lot more like the viral spike protein in its native state. Since the mRNA spike proteins looked more like the virus, they triggered antibodies that worked better against the virus.

The mRNA vaccines are limited to just one protein - the external surface spike protein that anchors the virus onto cells as the first step of infection. So 2 things happen by limiting the vaccine proteins to just that one:
your immune response is completely focused on that one protein
that one protein that is THE key step at the beginning of every infection is neutralized by those antibodies.
IMO that should be the first step of every vaccine - focusing on pure, artificially created, non-infectious, single key proteins. I believe vaccines should be given in progressive sequences however. The next vaccine should contain a mix of viral or bacterial proteins, so that the body develops a robust immune response to the entire virus or bacteria. And the final vaccine should be weakened (non-infectious) viruses or bacteria.
I also think the delivery route should be tailored to the infective agent.
The first vaccine should be injectable. That gives one an 'internal' immunity against internal damage, like pneumonia. And I think the second one should be injectable as well.
But 'external' surfaces like the nose, mouth, eyes, gut, and so on have their own separate immune systems apart from the immune system that works in the blood. And I think the final vaccine should be spayed, dripped, washed, swallowed etc to vaccinate those surfaces. Just imo of course.

Every policy should have a risk/ benefit studies attached to it. You need to calculate - as accurately as possible, with error bars attached - the benefits per capita, and the risks per capita.
So for COVID-19 vaccines, one would need to calculate the benefits per capita, divided by age groups if needed; and the risks per capita, divided by age groups if needed.
What protection does the vaccine give against death, hospitalization, severe disease, long term (or permanent) disability, mild illness, infection, transmission, and so on. And what side effects per capita does vaccination create in terms of death, hospitalization, severe disease, long term (or permanent) disability, mild illness, infection, transmission, and so on.
And obviously the same calculations need to be made for no-vaccinations.
Now once you have you per capita figures, you can start calculating numbers in your population. You can run different figures based on how many people you think will become infected with and without vaccination.
That will give you population figures for the benefits and risks of vaccination versus the benefits and risks of no vaccination.
I GUARANTEE THESE STUDIES - EVEN IF ONLY PRELIMINARY - HAVE BEEN DONE.
But for all the stories I've scanned through, I have never seen links to those studies for the pediatric (younger than 18) population.
How many children will be infected in which age range? How many will die or suffer permanent or serious damage from infection? How many children will be protected through vaccination? How will overall population transmission be affected by vaccinating younger age groups? And, how many younger people will suffer death or permanent damage or serious side effects from vaccination?
I've read - for example - that the risks of pediatric COVID-19 are far worse than the risks of vaccination. Where's the study(ies) to back that up? I've also read that the risk of vaccine myocarditis is very low, and that it's virtually completely mild and self-limiting. Where are the links to that information?
Any time I see something being pushed in the media without links to actual - you know - evidence, it makes me wary.
Maybe someone with the time and interest can look up the studies for all POV's about pediatric COVID-19 infections and vaccines. But until I see actual links to actual studies, I'm putting the topic of pediatric vaccination in the 'something smells funny' bin.

Funny bc hubby and I were just discussing the risks from the vaccine v the risks from Covid_19 in the pediatric and young adult population. My guess is that the vaccine is less risky than the virus itself.. unless you're talking about the Omicron variant, which does seem to be pretty mild.
But even if the risks from vaccination pencil out to be less than the risks from COVID-19 virus itself for the pediatric population does not mean a vaccine mandate is reasonable. Public health efforts only take effect when the risk exceeds a certain threshold... during testimony about a particular toxic facility the public health doctor estimated that threshold to be appx 500 in a million. That would be the risk from contaminated water, or smoking/secondhand smoke, for example. Public health measures are not invoked to protect everyone from every possible risk.
It would be better if TPTB would spit out their best estimates so far: risk of "doing something" v risk of "doing nothing", and - since the vaccine primarily protects the vaccinated, not the surrounding ppl- let those at risk make up their own minds.
Funny thing is, I worked with a young man who developed myocarditis or percarditis (not sure which) -this was long before the pandemic- and the doctors surmised he had caught some virus, apparently a mostly inconsequential one, and developed the "itis" bc of that, so there is a normal incidence anyway, even w/o SARS-Cov2 or the vaccine.
Still looking for that info on WHICH 5 proteins (of the 29 that make up the virus) are pathological to human endothelial tissue. Are they all spike proteins? (I doubt it.) Or are they distributed between the spike, envelope, membrane and nucleocapsid proteins? That would provide a mechanism for estimating the risk from a spike-based vaccine v the risk froma complete viral panoply of proteins.
That info also seems obscured.

I too tangentially worked with someone who developed myocarditis but this was specifically from the 'flu', and he was an older guy - close to my age - generally fit, but a really heavy smoker. I was talking with him when he came back to visit to see how he was doing. It very definitely took the starch out of him, as people say. Plus one of my direct co-worker's mothers got pericarditis, also probably from a virus infection, but hers was recurring. She had to have a 'window' cut into her pericardium after the second time she developed pericardial effusion. What a strange confluence of events. I find all that interesting.

But that wasn't the basis for Roe v Wade. A pregnant woman who gives birth faces a 25x higher risk - of dying - than from having an abortion.

A reader brought to my attention a CDC study of COVID-19 from late October that compared the mortality rate of vaccinated people vs. unvaccinated people. However, this study didn't do the usual boring thing and investigate deaths from COVID. It investigated deaths from non-COVID causes. Surprisingly, it turned out that mortality from non-COVID causes was way lower for people who had been vaccinated with either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines:

The standardized mortality rate from non-COVID causes was about 0.35 for vaccinated people vs. 1.11 for non-vaccinated people. This disparity held for all age groups, all races and ethnicities, and for both men and women. The disparity was biggest among the Black community: the unvaccinated mortality rate was more than 4x that of the vaccinated.
I am suspicious of these results, but not because I have any specific objections to the data gathering or the statistical analysis. Somebody with access to the raw data would have to comment on that.
However, I'm routinely suspicious of studies that show gigantic results. I mean, if these vaccines had some odd property that reduced your mortality rate by 10% or 20% or so, I might buy it. But 3x or more? That's beyond belief.
There's also this: I couldn't find any critiques of this study. Why? If these results are real, every medical researcher in the world should be gobsmacked. Money should be pouring into research labs that want to investigate what's going on. But that doesn't seem to be the case. These results were reported fairly widely when the study came out, but the mainstream press mostly ignored it and after that it disappeared. This makes no sense.
If this study is true, it's yet another great reason to get vaccinated—and to get happily boosted every year. But I would hold on for some independent confirmation before I started celebrating.
