Yanno, for someone who gets all outraged at the thought to Russia "interfering" in our internal affairs (by placing a few thousand dollars-worth of ads on FB) you see to have NO PROBLEM with the USA overturning other nations' governments.
I mean, handing out cookies at the Maidan and picking the next government of Ukraine... what would you call THAT?
Say, you wouldn't be a hyocrite, would you??
Nah ....

Dozens ‘Liquidated’ as Russia Sends Troops to Kazakhstan and Blames ‘Outside’ Forces for the Chaos
Dozens of demonstrators have been reported dead in Kazakhstan as protests turned to bloodshed Thursday and Russia sent in paratroopers in a dangerous bid to crush the uprising.

These were not "demonstrators", THUGR. Stop responding to spin.
It's not like these were innocent protesters who got rounded up, taken to an empty field and made to dig their own graves.
They were firing on/attacking police stations. If you're shooting at a police station, you should expect to be shot back.
You don't rack up dozens of dead security forces ... ONE BEHEADED... and hundreds wounded because of "peaceful protests".
The rules of engagement are clear:
"Those who don't lay down their weapons will be killed"
Sounds fair to me.
If there were people attacking Capitol Hill with weapons, I'm sure you'd have NO PROBLEM calling out the troops and ordering them to fire!
Hell, look how you shit bricks when a bunch of unarmed protestors - one painted guy with a horned helmet even!- trespassed illegally! You were all ready to declare them "coup plotters" and have them shot by firing squad!
Jeezus, you're stupid. And gullible. And a bully. With no moral compass whatsoever.
Just stop posting, willya? I mean, I know you get off being a bully. You've made that abundantly clear. But the more you post, the more you embarrass yourself.

Okay THUGR, here's a helpful hint to so don't make an moral asshole of yourself so often:
The rules that you apply to others, try to apply them to yourself/USA.
Here are a few recent examples:
You don't think other nations should interfere in USA internal matters. Therefore, USA shouldn't interfere in other nations' internal matters.
You think that the USA government should be able to defend itself against violent overthrow. Therefore, other governments should be able to defend themselves against violent overthrow.
There is an old saying: what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Same rules apply. It's simple, see?

how demonstrators were treated in Kazakhstan
Quote:
The hardened-steel baton made the most disturbing sound as it bounced off the woman's skull.
It varied between a hollow click and a deeper snap, depending on where on her head the metal weapon made contact.
“Please don’t beat her!” a man in the crowd yelled.
... “Stand up” intoned a police officer in riot gear.
After repeatedly striking her in the head, the officer in white holstered his baton. Then he made a fist with his bare left hand and punched her in the face.
“Oh, no-no-no! Please! Please don’t beat her!” someone shouted, to no effect.
After three full-force knuckle shots to her head, the officer in white paused. Then he went in for two more blows. He grabbed the hair at the back of her head and pulled it hard.
Kinda makes your blood boil, doesn't it? More about this later.

Well, about this incident; I happened on Jan 6 IN WASHINGTON DC.
An officer repeatedly beat and punched a 5'4" unarmed woman for no reason that I could tell. And then the DOJ refused to release 3 hours of video which would have bolstered her lawsuit, until they were order released by a Federal judge.

As Kazakhstan models China's brutality, will China model its protests?

I argue with you bc you repeatn lies. You repeat sources that have lied to you, they KEEP ON lying to you, and you keep believing them even when the lies are pointed out to you.
Case in point: when you have armed groups with modern weapons, walkie talkies, and vahicles storming airports, government buildings, and media centers, raiding armories and attacking police stations, THESE ARE NOT DEMONSTRATORS OR PROTESTORS, THEY ARE ARMED INSURRECTIONISTS.
THE FACT THAT THE M$M KEEPS CALLING THEM PROTESTORS AND DEMONSTRATORS - AND THAT YOU KEEP REPEATING IT- MAKES AS LITTLE SENSE AS CALLING UNARMED, UNORGANIZED PROTESTORS/ RIOTERS "COUP PLOTTERS".
You must be exceptionally, abysmally stupid bc you STILL haven't learned that you're being lied to, and you keep swallowing, and regurgitating, shit w/o a moment's hesitation.
When you pull your head out of your ass and show a glimmer of intelligence, I'll stop pointing out your egregious stupidity.

A LOT of shit happens with the F-35. The anti-radar coating can't get wet. Which is why an F-35 recently crashed in England- someone forgot to remove the tarp before takeoff, and it got sucked into an engine.
Every hour of flying time requires 10 hours of maintenance.
It takes HOURS to download the latest avionics and terrain data from satellite.
The jet is limited to 40-50 seconds of Mach 1.3 flight (version depending) bc high speeds damage the stealth skin and rear antenna.
https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/aviation/a32701605/f-35-supe
rsonic-flight-speed-limit/
On top of which, bc the stealth profile depends on armaments being carried in the belly of the plane, with the bomb bay doors closed, the plane suffers from overheated fuel and avionics, requiring refrigerated fuel trucks on the ground.
https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/37314/has-the-f-35-lightn
ing-ii-overheating-problem-been-resolved
The idea originally was the create a multi-role stealth jet with 85% overlap of parts between versions but the requirements between versions are so different (loiter time, speed, armor, etc) that it has evolved into a finicky overly complicated boondoggle that requires far too much ground support to be practical in combat situations.
But SOMEBODY made a lot of money on it!
Any competent designer knows that you can't make a do-everythimg jet. Ground support requires a slow speed, heavily armored plane that can loiter for long periods of time. A fighter requires speed and agility. Bombers carry high payloads. Carrier aircraft and invasion force need short, or VERY short runways. I don't see how there could be a single design that can accomplish all of these.
Over-promised, under-delivered. Our military needs to get it's head out of its ass and start ordering weapons systems that are more thought out: What is the mission, offensive or defensive? What countermeasures will be encountered? What do we need?

As I think about it, Kazakhstan has all the appearance of a ginned-up phony 'color revolution' specifically manufactured post-haste to explain why the US can't POSSIBLY talk with RUSSIA!!!RUSSIA!!!RUSSIA!!!
But it makes me speculate on a potential strategy, to wit -
China is a weak target for US military action, because it still holds a lot of US denominated financials and it still depends on manufacturing for the US market. China would not be eager to lose either the value of its holdings or of its market. In other words, there are still other significant tools to be used against China.
Russia otoh has a hardened economy (and also an ascendant military). So picking a full-on military fight with Russia wouldn't be advisable - unless you're of course a neo-con who believes nuclear war is winnable. But picking proxy-wars with Russia might be the way to go!
And, if the US makes-nice(er) with China while picking a fight with Russia, it would also test the Russia-China partnership. China I think would be very unlikely to go to bat against the US in terms of either military participation or economic isolation, due to its economic vulnerability versus the US.
If that theory is correct, expect the US media to stand-down on China and how awful it's been treating the Uyghurs, Hong Kong, Taiwan ... manufactured pointless concern of the day ...

Why Ukraine’s Turkish-made drone became a flash point in tensions with Russia
The strike on Oct. 26 — from a Bayraktar TB2 drone made by NATO-member Turkey — represented more than another clash in nearly eight years of fighting in eastern Ukraine.
For Russia, it was another signal that Ukraine is boosting its arsenal to potentially change the military balance in the region — and why Moscow is demanding NATO end all defense cooperation with Ukraine and other former Soviet republics such as Georgia. The United States and its NATO allies say that Russia can never dictate its policies.

The United Kingdom has supplied Ukraine with anti-tank weapons and Canada sent special forces to help Kyiv avert a possible attack from Russia, which denied claims that it is looking for a pretext to invade the neighboring state and rejected that it started the evacuation of embassy staff ahead of a full military invasion.
Canada, which has the world's third-largest Ukrainian population after Ukraine and Russia, has maintained a 200-strong training mission in western Ukraine since 2015. On Sunday, it urged Canadians to avoid nonessential travel to Ukraine, in a new advisory citing "Russian aggression."

Don't forget, it's NATO that expanded eastward, (breaking promises by the west), not Russia expanding westward, that caused this line of contact.

NATO Allies welcome Ukraine’s aspirations to join NATO and they stand by the decision made at the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance.
Decisions regarding NATO membership are up to each individual applicant and the 30 NATO Allies. Russia has no right to intervene and cannot veto such a process.

Very clever of Signym to bury the lie. That little five word long lie is of great importance, believe it or not. Signym knows that.
False Claim by Russians: NATO promised Russia it would not expand after the Cold War
Fact: NATO Allies take decisions by consensus and these are recorded. There is no record of any such decision taken by NATO. Personal assurances from individual leaders cannot replace Alliance consensus and do not constitute formal NATO agreement.
In addition, at the time of the alleged promise, the Warsaw Pact still existed. Its members did not agree on its dissolution until 1991. The idea of their accession to NATO was not on the agenda in 1989. This was confirmed by Mikhail Gorbachev himself in an interview with Russia Beyond the Headlines:
"The topic of 'NATO expansion' was not discussed at all, and it wasn't brought up in those years. I say this with full responsibility. Not a single Eastern European country raised the issue, not even after the Warsaw Pact ceased to exist in 1991. Western leaders didn't bring it up, either."
Declassified White House transcripts also reveal that, in 1997, Bill Clinton consistently refused Boris Yeltsin's offer of a 'gentlemen's agreement' that no former Soviet Republics would enter NATO: "I can't make commitments on behalf of NATO, and I'm not going to be in the position myself of vetoing NATO expansion with respect to any country, much less letting you or anyone else do so…NATO operates by consensus."

There is, as always, a lie buried in your post, SECOND. Did I post THAT NATO promised? NO I DID NOT.
I said "the west". The west promised, when negotiating the re-unification of Germany, "not one inch eastward". That was part of the agreement, whether signed or not. Notes were taken, it was written.
And since NATO has expanded eastward to the point of touching Russia's border, they claim Russia is threatening them when it's the other way around.
For Russia, having missiles in Poland is like us having missiles in Cuba. It's a huge security threat. Ignoring or lying about or spinning it it doesn't make it go away for them. Or for us.

I know perfectly well that it won't be Putin riding into Ukraine so the likelihood of him being immediately shot dead is approximately zero, which is why Putin is acting as he is. Because the ultimate decision makers are NOT at any risk of immediate death for making stupid decisions is why the world never has run worth a goddamn.

Quote:The short story of the Cuban Missile Crisis is that Kennedy put missiles into Turkey. And so Khrushchev put missiles into Cuba. And so General Curtis LeMay wanted to nuke Cuba. If LeMay and the Joint Chiefs of Staff had not been mentally unstable, as the Vietnam War would repeatedly demonstrate how emotionally unsound these men were, Kennedy could have quietly removed the missiles from Turkey without a crisis and Khrushchev would have done the same in Cuba. But here is how it actually went:

The Joint Chiefs of Staff unanimously agreed that a full-scale attack and invasion was the only solution. They believed that the Soviets would not attempt to stop the US from conquering Cuba.
Kennedy was skeptical: "They, no more than we, can let these things go by without doing something. They can't, after all their statements, permit us to take out their missiles, kill a lot of Russians, and then do nothing. If they don't take action in Cuba, they certainly will in Berlin."[54]
Kennedy concluded that attacking Cuba by air would signal the Soviets to presume "a clear line" to conquer Berlin. Kennedy also believed that US allies would think of the country as "trigger-happy cowboys" who lost Berlin because they could not peacefully resolve the Cuban situation.

If Putin has the equivalent of Kennedy's Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Putin lacks good sense and Putin doesn't restrain his Generals, then there will be an invasion of Ukraine.

NATO isn’t on the move. Putins’ neighbors are. They’ve had enough of Russian rule. And as I’ve recently said; 80% of Ukrainians didn’t want to join NATO until Putin invaded. This is his mess.
Now when asked, 58% of Ukrainians would prefer to join the EU with 21% wanting to join NATO. That's 79% wanting nothing to do with Russia. How many of those left just want Russia to leave them alone?
Let me ask you comrade signym. How about Putin lets them choose.

The US and European countries are CLEARLY in violation of treaties they signed. Here a just a few examples of many violations, violations to which Russia is RESPONDING, NOT INITIATING. If you bothered to read ... you CAN read, can't you? ... you'd know all this.
They remain convinced that security is indivisible and that the security of each of them is inseparably linked to the security of all others. They will not strengthen their security at the expense of the security of other States. They will pursue their own security interests in conformity with the common effort to strengthen security and stability in the CSCE area and beyond.
... the Forum for Security Co-operation adopted a document on principles governing non-proliferation in the field of nuclear weapons, chemical and biological weapons, and the transfer of missiles capable of delivering weapons of mass destruction, and their components and technology.
Reaffirming their respect for each other's sovereign equality and individuality as well as the rights inherent in and encompassed by its sovereignty, the participating States will base their mutual security relations upon a co-operative approach. They emphasize in this regard the key role of the CSCE. They will continue to develop complementary and mutually reinforcing institutions that include European and transatlantic organizations, multilateral and bilateral undertakings and various forms of regional and subregional co-operation. 21 Dec 2021 -- Today Dmitry Kiselyov, a media mogul known as Putin’s mouthpiece, warned US-led aggression could lead to a nuclear war.
He told NATO to back off, adding: “Otherwise, everyone will be turned into radioactive ash”.
Putin denies any Russian involvement in the region but it is feared he will use the conflict to justify an incursion deeper into Ukraine, threatening to bring war to Europe’s borders.

That is NOT the first time Putin used Threats of Nuclear War
While Russia was making war threats, it was also making nuclear threats. This is not new. Russian nuclear targeting threats date back to 2007. However, this is the first time Moscow used nuclear threats in support of an offensive political agenda and there were a lot of them.
Russia has previously used nuclear threats in support of its aggression against Ukraine, including the deployment of nuclear-capable systems near Ukraine. In September 2014, then-Ukrainian Minister of Defense Colonel General Valeriy Heletey wrote, "The Russian side has threatened on several occasions across unofficial channels that, in the case of continued resistance, they are ready to use a tactical nuclear weapon against us.” In 2015, President Putin said that he would have put Russian nuclear forces on alert during the Crimea crisis if it was necessary. Nuclear threats are now being used in support of a potential invasion of Ukraine and Putin’s “ultimatum” (what Russian state media have called it, although Ryabkov characterizes it as a serious warning) concerning “security assurances.”
Signym, there are more threats by Putin to drop nukes if he doesn't get what he wants at https://www.realcleardefense.com/articles/2022/01/18/threats_of_war_an
d_nuclear_war_putins_effort_to_revive_the_soviet_union_812521.html
Signym, maybe Putin is lying . . . or truthful.
Signym, maybe Putin is crazy . . . or sane.
Signym, maybe Putin will let us know this year which one he is.

It’s worth noting the words of Dmitry Muratov, the courageous Russian journalist who remains one of the few independent voices standing up to Mr. Putin and who just received the Nobel Prize for Peace. At a news conference after the awards ceremony in Oslo, as Russian troops and armor were massing on Ukraine’s borders, Mr. Muratov spoke of the iron link between authoritarianism and war. “Disbelief in democracy means that the countries that have abandoned it will get a dictator,” he said. “And where there is a dictatorship, there is a war. If we refuse democracy, we agree to war.”
It was a message similar to the one contained in Mr. Sakharov’s Nobel address in 1975. It was delivered by his wife, the activist Yelena Bonner, because he was barred from leaving the Soviet Union to deliver it in person.
Mr. Sakharov is considered the father of the Soviet hydrogen bomb. Realizing the destructive power of nuclear weapons and concerned about the ethical implications of his work, he later became an advocate for nuclear disarmament and human rights. In sharp contrast to Mr. Sakharov, Mr. Putin threatens to nuke somebody if he doesn’t get whatever he wants from Ukraine.

Ukraine's President Admits 'Russian Invasion' Fears Driven By "Big Hype", Blames Media

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is attempting to calm his population amid persisting and breathless international media reports that over 100,000 Russian troops are set for an "invasion" of Ukraine "at any point" - as the White House has been claiming.
He gave a speech Wednesday toward that end, bluntly calling the current Russia-Ukraine standoff driven by "hype" while urging calm among the Ukrainian citizenry. "The risks have not just existed for a day, and they have not become bigger. The only thing that has become bigger is the hype around them," Zelensky said.

https://www.270towin.com/1972_Election/
Americans face binary choices (Nixon/McGovern) all the time, and make the wrong choice, splitting the universe. Then Americans wonder why they are in wrong half of the universe, the half where their lives gets worse every year. When looking at their daily life, where they are making binary decisions less famous than Nixon/McGovern, Americans habitually make terrible decisions. Americans try to shrug it off as six of one, half dozen of the other, but it is not. These are important daily decisions that they screw-up every day, making their life a little worse day by day. It is no surprise when Americans' decisions every four years are just as bad as their daily decisions.
By the way, Signym, your decision to post what you did was the bad choice when the other half of this binary was to post nothing. But it is very clear you have been making bad choices all your life, except not clear at all to you. Such is the life of people who defend, and sometimes even vote for, Trump.
Putin is facing a binary choice. Invade versus Not. I am unconvinced Putin will make the superior choice from looking at other choices he has made in Ukraine.

I will be blunt. Some Democrats are psychologically identical to Republicans, and would vote for a Trump if he was a Democrat. But not very many Democrats are like that. Not many Democrats have a weird psychology tolerating a guy who doesn't pay his taxes, cheats his business associates, cheats his wives, lies as constantly as he breaths, was a chickenhearted draft dodger, insists he won an election he lost, etc.
I know plenty of Republicans that say the bad news about Trump is fake news about Trump. Those Republicans are really saying they are crazy, crazy in the head as a flat-earther who denies Earth is spherical. They can't see it about themselves, but I already knew they were crazy from what happens in the other 95% of life unconnected to politics, so I expected their politics would also be crazy. That Republicans all over America, not just just Texas, did the craziest thing by selecting Trump in the primaries, despite his history, says everything about Republicans.

Back to the Putin Disaster.
Putin is trying to arm Russia as if it still is a superpower without having the resources to pay for it. Economy is totally dependent on fossil fuels and demand for natural gas/crude oil will go down. As demand goes, so goes Russia.
Setting a crisis is the common way for dictators in trouble to unite the population and that’s what Putin is trying to do. He is inventing enemies all over, foreign agents trying to infiltrate Russia and he is trying to invoke nationalistic ideas, Russia being an exceptional nation with a mission to dominate Europe.
Most Russians, even the ones who don’t support Putin, are still convinced that Russia is a superpower with the right to bully its neighbors
American politicians have historically deflected attention from their own failures by blaming immigrants or minorities (see Lyndon Johnson's famous "give a [white] man someone to look down on" remark); Putin uses Europe and the West in a similar way. Of course it's not that Russians aren't aware he's a completely corrupt autocrat with dreams of becoming another Stalin -- it's that they feel he's the only one who will "stand up" for them. Exactly what a lot of Republican voters saw in Trump. No wonder they were two peas in a pod.

Do Republicans really believe Trump won the 2020 election? Our research suggests that they do.
By Lane Cuthbert and Alexander Theodoridis
January 7, 2022
All credible evidence tells us that the 2020 election was very secure. Experts on both sides of the political aisle, and even President Donald Trump’s own Justice Department, have confirmed that 2020 was a free and fair election. Even a Republican-sponsored audit of Arizona’s results found no evidence of fraud or malfeasance.
Nevertheless, the vast majority of Republican voters say they agree with Trump’s unsubstantiated claims that the election was stolen. In our most recent University of Massachusetts at Amherst poll, fielded online Dec. 14-20 by YouGov among a nationally representative sample of the U.S. voting-age population, only 21 percent of Republicans say Joe Biden’s victory was legitimate. This is nearly identical to what we found in our April poll, in which just 19 percent of Republicans said Biden was legitimately elected. Other universities, media outlets and polling firms have found nearly identical results.
How could the “big lie” campaign convince so many Republicans that Trump won an election he so clearly lost? Some observers wonder whether these beliefs are genuine or just an example of expressive responding, a term social scientists use to mean respondents are using a survey item to register a feeling rather than express a real belief. In this case, it would mean that these Republicans, upset about Biden winning, say his victory was not legitimate even though they know deep down that it was.
What does the evidence tell us?
While it is difficult to firmly establish what respondents truly believe, clues suggest this is a genuine belief. One piece of evidence is that the result is nearly identical in phone surveys and online surveys. When people respond to phone surveys, those responses are often biased by what social scientists call “social desirability,” in which respondents say what they think makes them look good — even if that is not what they actually believe. Web-based surveys are known to reduce social desirability bias.
Other survey responses appear consistent with a true belief that the election was stolen. In our December UMass Poll, we asked those who said Biden’s presidential victory was illegitimate to select all the reasons they believed so from a list of conspiracy theories floated by those pushing the “big lie.” As you can see below, fully 83 percent say that “fraudulent ballots supporting Joe Biden were counted by election officials”; 81 percent that officials counted “absentee ballots from deceased people”; 76 percent tell us that “non-citizens and other ineligible voters were allowed to vote for Joe Biden”; 69 percent that the victory was illegitimate because “some states changed election rules in ways they should not have”; and 65 percent that election officials destroyed ballots supporting Trump.
In other words, not only do they say that Biden’s victory was not legitimate, but they endorse several (though not all) specific theories about how fraud was perpetrated.
Further, Republicans in our UMass Poll say they would be more likely to vote for 2022 GOP congressional candidates who questioned Biden’s victory and less likely to vote for those who concede that Biden won. Using a conjoint experiment, an approach likely to reduce social desirability bias and expressive response, political scientists Vin Arceneaux and Rory Truex found that Republi

There is a demand for more "evidence" in the 59th and last Presidential election because Trump said it was a fake election. No candidate before Trump has acted crazy about an election. Previously, when candidates got votes recounted, they accepted their lose rather than say the recount was fake. But Trump says Fake News! for a year because he is insane. You are demanding more "evidence" because you are insane, too, Signym.

The results are NOT clear, only the blather is (on both sides).
The ONLY credible audit was in Maricopa Co. If you have detailed reports of exact procedures and results of other audits, bring them forth. I doubt you can.

This had to have pleased Putin and was orchestrated by Trump’s later-indicted, later-pardoned campaign manager Paul Manafort, who worked as a lobbyist for the Russian-backed former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych for more than a decade.

Trump campaign guts GOP’s anti-Russia stance on Ukraine
The Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform won’t call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces, contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.
Throughout the campaign, Trump has been dismissive of calls for supporting the Ukraine government as it fights an ongoing Russian-led intervention. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, worked as a lobbyist for the Russian-backed former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych for more than a decade.
Still, Republican delegates at last week’s national security committee platform meeting in Cleveland were surprised when the Trump campaign orchestrated a set of events to make sure that the GOP would not pledge to give Ukraine the weapons it has been asking for from the United States.
Inside the meeting, Diana Denman, a platform committee member from Texas who was a Ted Cruz supporter, proposed a platform amendment that would call for maintaining or increasing sanctions against Russia, increasing aid for Ukraine and “providing lethal defensive weapons” to the Ukrainian military.
“Today, the post-Cold War ideal of a ‘Europe whole and free’ is being severely tested by Russia’s ongoing military aggression in Ukraine,” the amendment read. “The Ukrainian people deserve our admiration and support in their struggle.”
Trump staffers in the room, who are not delegates but are there to oversee the process, intervened. By working with pro-Trump delegates, they were able to get the issue tabled while they devised a method to roll back the language.
On the sideline, Denman tried to persuade the Trump staffers not to change the language, but failed. “I was troubled when they put aside my amendment and then watered it down,” Denman told me. “I said, ‘What is your problem with a country that wants to remain free?’ It seems like a simple thing.”
Finally, Trump staffers wrote an amendment to Denman’s amendment that stripped out the platform’s call for “providing lethal defensive weapons” and replaced it with softer language calling for “appropriate assistance.”
That amendment was voted on and passed. When the Republican Party releases its platform Monday, the official Republican party position on arms for Ukraine will be at odds with almost all the party’s national security leaders.
“This is another example of Trump being out of step with GOP leadership and the mainstream in a way that shows he would be dangerous for America and the world,” said Rachel Hoff, another platform committee member who was in the room.
Of course, Trump is not the only politician to oppose sending lethal weapons to Ukraine. President Obama decided not to authorize it, despite recommendations to do so from his top Europe officials in the State Department and the military. The United States has provided Ukraine with non-lethal equipment and aid.
Trump’s view of Russia has always been friendlier than most Republicans. He’s said he would “get along very well” with Vladimir Putin and called it a “great honor” when Putin praised him. Trump has done a lot of business in Russia and has been traveling there since 1987. Last August, he said of Ukraine joining NATO, “I wouldn’t care.” He traveled there in September, and he told Ukrainians their war is “really a problem that affects Europe a lot more than it affects us.”
For Trump, the biggest threat to Europe is not Russia, according to people familiar with his thinking. He believes the United States should focus on helping Europe fight Islamist terrorism and open borders, not confronting Putin. He has called for a reduction of the U.S. commitment to NATO. He simply doesn’t see Russia as a dangerous th

Has Putin backed himself into a corner?
Putin’s ultimatum — give me Ukraine, and a say in Europe, or I may do something with all these troops — is a dangerous one. Not just because, well, war, but because it has created a situation where Putin himself has to deliver. “He has two options,” said Olga Lautman, senior fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis, “to say, ‘never mind, just kidding,’ which will show his weakness and shows that he was intimidated by US and Europe standing together — and that creates weakness for him at home and with countries he’s attempting influence.”
“Or he goes full forward with an attack,” she said. “At this point, we don’t know where it’s going, but the prospects are very grim.”
This is the corner Putin has put himself in, which makes a walk-back from Russia seem difficult to fathom.

Putin is facing a binary choice. Invade versus Not. I am unconvinced Putin will make the superior choice from looking at other choices he has made in Ukraine.

Military trainers, missiles and over 200,000 lbs of lethal aid: What NATO members have sent Ukraine so far
Last December, the White House authorized a $200 million security assistance package that provides Ukraine with small arms and ammunition, secure radios, medical equipment and spare parts. Other lethal equipment, including Javelin antitank missiles and other anti-armor artillery, as well as heavy machine guns, also were included. The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv said late Friday that a first shipment of nearly 200,000 pounds of lethal aid had recently arrived in Ukraine.

If Russia invades Ukraine, what happens next?
It would appear to be setting the stage for a repeat of U.S. support for another insurgency — one that led to the denouement of the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Both Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chair of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark A. Milley have warned their Russian counterparts that any incursion would be followed by an insurgency. But it’s a policy with significant cost, and a move likely to leave a shattered country in its wake.

Ever since Putin announced his demands for security guarantees from the US and NATO (in brief, stop NATO’s eastward expansion, have NATO retreat to its positions of 1997 and remove offensive weapons from Russia’s immediate vicinity) we have been subjected to a barrage of irrelevancies from Western press:
• Are these security guarantees an ultimatum or a negotiating tool?
• Will the US and NATO agree to them or reject them?
• Will Putin invade the Ukraine or will he be stopped in his tracks through the judicious and timely use of frowning, head-shaking, finger-wagging and tisk-tisking by sundry and assorted Western luminaries?
• If Putin does invade the Ukraine, does this mean that World War III is finally upon us and we shall all surely die?
I hope that I am not alone in being sick and tired of this pathetic, tiresome attempt to throw up a smokescreen and hide the inevitable reality of what is about to unfold. In case it isn’t completely clear to you yet, I would like to spell it all out. I am normally more cautious when making specific predictions, but in this case our immediate future has been carefully plotted out for us by Russia and China, with the US and its assorted puppets reduced to the status of non-playable characters in a video game who can only do one thing: hide behind a dense smokescreen of risible lies.
First, Russian security guarantee demands are not ultimatums. An ultimatum is an “or else” sort of thing, offering a choice between compliance and consequences, whereas in this case both the noncompliance and the consequences will follow automatically. The West and NATO are, for well understood internal political reasons, unable to sign these guarantees; therefore, the consequences will unfold in due course.
Russia has demanded that both the US and NATO put their refusal to agree to the security guarantees in writing; these pieces of paper will be important moving forward. To understand why, we need to take on board the fact that everything within these security guarantees has already been agreed to by the West; namely, the “not an inch to the east” guarantee given to the Russians by the US 30 years ago and the collective security principle agreed to by all members of the OSCE. By signing a document in which they declare their refusal to abide by what they previously agreed to, the US and NATO would essentially declare themselves to be apostates from international law and order. This, in turn, would imply that their own security needs can be disregarded and that instead they deserve to be humiliated and punished.
Further, by putting their refusal in writing, the US and NATO would declare the collective security principle itself—specifically with respect to the US and NATO—to be null and void, meaning that if, for instance, the Bahamas, a sovereign nation since July 10, 1973, decides to reinforce its sovereignty by hosting a Russian missile battery pointed across the Gulf Stream at Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the US would have no say in the matter, and if the US did try to speak up, they’d get beat up with this very piece of paper they signed. “Do you feel threatened now?” the Russians would ask; “Well, maybe you should have thought of that when you threatened us by putting your missiles in Poland and Romania.”
The initial stated purpose of the two installations of Aegis Ashore in Poland and Romania was to shoot down Iranian missiles, which didn’t exist then, don’t exist now, and never would have taken a giant detour and fly over Poland or Romania in any case. Although the stated purpose of these systems was for missile defense, their launch platforms can also be used to launch offensive strategic weapons: Tomahawk cruise missiles with nuclear payloads. These Tomahawks are obsolete and the Russians know how to shoot them down extremely well (as they demonstrated in Syria) but this is still very annoying, pl
