In November 2021, noted Russian journalist Pavel Felgenhauer pointed out that, “President Vladimir Putin declared that if the West deploys missiles to Ukraine that could reach Moscow ‘in five to ten minutes,’ Russia is ready to counter by deploying a ‘new naval hypersonic missile, which may reach [Western] decision-makers in 5 minutes, flying at Mach 9 speed.’ (Militarynews.ru, November 30).” The context of Putin’s statement was preparations for a Russian invasion of Ukraine, not NATO missile deployments. A purely fictitious U.S. missile deployment in Ukraine is being used as an excuse to threaten nuclear strikes against Ukraine and NATO. Numerous major news organizations interpreted his speech as saying, “…Russia will target [the] U.S. if it deploys missiles to Europe.” They did not pick up on his threat against the U.S. National Command Authority. This is important because it is something that would only be done in a full-scale nuclear war. Many of the Russian statements made in late 2021 implied that Russia would engage in an all-out nuclear war over its newly announced agenda.
Nine days after Putin’s nuclear threat, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned about a Ukrainian conflict becoming a new Cuban missile crisis. The Cuban missile crisis was the closest the U.S. and the Soviet Union came to devastating nuclear war. In effect, Ryabkov was threatening a major nuclear war if the U.S. did not agree to Putin's demands.
In mid-December 2021, Russia began the practice of sending long-range nuclear-capable bombers on "patrols" over Belarus. This was the first time a former Soviet state was forced to engage to this extent in Russian nuclear coercion. There was no purpose for these “patrols” other than nuclear intimidation. When asked about the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared, “It’s no secret that the deployment of various kinds of weapons near our borders, which can pose a danger to us, clearly requires adequate steps to balance the situation. Various options are available.” This is one step short of saying “yes” that Russia would deploy nuclear weapons.
On December 24, 2021, President Putin announced a salvo launch of the nuclear-capable Zircon (Tsirkon) hypersonic missile. The timing could have been linked to the pattern of nuclear war threats. The Zircon was the missile Putin was talking about in the context of his threat against the U.S. National Command Authority.
Moscow state television is used in information warfare and in making nuclear threats. Taking its cue from President Putin, threats of nuclear war ramped up considerably in December 2021. Writing in the Daily Beast, Julia Davis even suggested that, taking their cue from Putin, "Russian Citizens Are Now Being Prepped for Nuclear War.” (Emphasis in the original). Dmitry Kiselyov, a Russian media mogul, threatened on state TV to “put a gun to America’s head” if NATO forces are stationed in Ukraine and warned the alliance to back off “otherwise, everyone will be turned into radioactive ash.” He indicated that Russia was prepared to accept the consequences of such actions to get what it wanted, putting his faith in Russia’s hypersonic nuclear missiles.
In December 2021, Russian military expert Colonel Konstantin Sivkov, in an interview by Russian Russia Today TV (state media), “…said … that America recently gave Germany's air force permission to equip its planes with American nuclear weapons, and has provided Germany with America's nuclear battle plans. Colonel Sivkov said that as a result, the U.S. has pushed the situation in Ukraine to the brink of nuclear war, and he warned that if a nuclear conflict erupts, 160 of Russia's submarine-launched nuclear missiles could turn a country like Germany into a nuclea

They went figuratively nuclear in 2020 by working with China to unleash Covid on the world to stop Trump, now it appears that only two years later they're attempting to go nuclear literally.

Quote:This thread is about "Another Putin Disaster". Putin wants to make Ukraine a part of Russia. There is no misunderstanding about what Putin wants, but he can't have what he wants, especially when Putin says he will nuke the USA if he doesn't get Ukraine. Instead, Putin needs to talk to a psychiatrist about his impossible to satisfy urges, but Biden is not a psychiatrist, and even if he was, Biden could not satisfy Putin's violent feelings and unhealthy need to rule Ukraine. I hope Putin's generals tell him they won't nuke the USA over Ukraine or Putin comes to his senses without his generals putting him in a straitjacket to restrain him before Putin kills millions.

The effect is he invaded Crimea, part of Ukraine, and he threatens to nuke the USA and invade the rest of Ukraine. The Baltic countries, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, saw NATO membership as a shield against their former Soviet rulers. The Baltic countries joined NATO in order to prevent being forced to rejoin Russia. Putin was infuriated by this. Putin is taking his fury out on Ukraine. 6ix, you are crazier than Putin if you think Putin's violent lust for Ukraine has anything to do with Biden being President and NATO discouraging rapist Putin from more rape attempts on Ukraine. About Vietnam, the kind of people who would vote for Nixon in 1968 and 1972 said Vietnam was afflicted with a Communist cancer that would spread across Southeast Asia. Their solution? Nuke Vietnam! But those people faced a rhetorical dilemma: if they addressed ethical and moral issues around tactical nuke use, they risked being dismissed as "soft" and unreliable. Therefore, they chose to explicitly exclude ethical and moral issues and focus solely on military and political ramifications. Steven Weinberg said the analysis was "…honestly done, but I have to admit that its conclusions were pretty much what we expected from the beginning."
Steven Weinberg died in July 23, 2021, so he won't be updating his report but his old analysis could inform Putin that bringing out the nukes for Ukraine is not a winner, despite Putin many times threatening to do just that.

I am confident that true sovereignty of Ukraine is possible only in partnership with Russia. Our spiritual, human and civilizational ties formed for centuries and have their origins in the same sources, they have been hardened by common trials, achievements and victories. Our kinship has been transmitted from generation to generation. It is in the hearts and the memory of people living in modern Russia and Ukraine, in the blood ties that unite millions of our families. Together we have always been and will be many times stronger and more successful. For we are one people.
Today, these words may be perceived by some people with hostility. They can be interpreted in many possible ways. Yet, many people will hear me. And I will say one thing – Russia has never been and will never be ”anti-Ukraine“. And what Ukraine will be – it is up to its citizens to decide.
Article by Vladimir Putin ”On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians“
July 12, 2021
http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/66181
What do you think Putin is doing in the following, 1kiki?
When the USSR collapsed, many people in Russia and Ukraine sincerely believed and assumed that our close cultural, spiritual and economic ties would certainly last, as would the commonality of our people, who had always had a sense of unity at their core. However, events – at first gradually, and then more rapidly – started to move in a different direction.
In essence, Ukraine's ruling circles decided to justify their country's independence through the denial of its past, however, except for border issues. They began to mythologize and rewrite history, edit out everything that united us, and refer to the period when Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union as an occupation. The common tragedy of collectivization and famine of the early 1930s was portrayed as the genocide of the Ukrainian people.
Radicals and neo-Nazis were open and more and more insolent about their ambitions. They were indulged by both the official authorities and local oligarchs, who robbed the people of Ukraine and kept their stolen money in Western banks, ready to sell their motherland for the sake of preserving their capital. To this should be added the persistent weakness of state institutions and the position of a willing hostage to someone else's geopolitical will.
There are MANY, MANY MORE PARAGRAPHS WHERE PUTIN DESCRIBES WHAT IS WRONG WITH UKRAINE. Read Putin's article for all the terrible happenings that only Putin can fix.

I have little interest in Putin and zero interest in Ukraine. And whatever happens in Ukraine has no bearing on US national security, or on NATO.
You'd think you'd have learned your lesson from Vietnam - the US was at war to protect somebody from the domino effect of Communist China going though Vietnam because that threatened the US ... in some non-existent way. And you were all gung-ho about it until you found out you'd been played. The Vietnamese didn't care to fight, and the US didn't care to win, and you were treated like a piece of meat, meant to be consumed by a pointless war drummed up by democrats.
But now you're all stampeded to 'care' about Ukraine for the same non-existent threat to the US, except now of course you're not going to lay your body on the line for the 'cause'.
Whatever. Truly, it makes no difference how much self-contradictory BS you post. Until you come up with a salient reason for US interest in Ukraine, everything you post is just wasted bytes of propaganda.

Only Putin Knows What Happens Next
He alone can make the choice to bring Europe back from the brink of a major war.

If Russian President Vladimir Putin isn’t about to invade Ukraine—or, more accurately, isn’t about to expand his previous invasion—he’s certainly making a good show of it.
Russian military forces have been moving into position for weeks. Russia and Belarus announced snap exercises that will continue for at least a month. President Joe Biden says he is expecting an invasion, and there are reports that the U.S. embassy in Kyiv is planning to evacuate families and non-essential personnel. Some NATO members are stepping up military aid and assistance. The British government says it has outed a Russian scheme to topple the government in Kyiv and replace it with Russian stooges (probably in the hope that exposing the plan will foil it).
If this isn’t the setup for a massive Russian invasion, it’s a damn good dress rehearsal.
Through all of this, the Biden administration has cycled through all the combinations of threats to deter the Russians from attacking. But the reality is this: Putin created this crisis, and only Putin can end it.
American options are limited for several reasons. Perhaps most important, no one really knows why Putin is doing this—or whether he really intends to do it at all. It is unlikely his own inner circle even has a good read on their boss. As Fyodor Lukyanov, a well-connected Russian foreign policy figure put it: “The expert opinion that I can authoritatively declare is: Who the heck knows?”
Despite all the Western myth-making about his cold cunning, Putin is emotional, volatile, and vain. His 2014 invasion, in which he seized Crimea and the eastern regions of Ukraine, was in response to the utter humiliation of seeing the Ukrainian president at the time, his ally Viktor Yanukovych, chased out of the country. When Putin moved in, no one knew when he would stop—and it is likely he didn’t either. The Russians gained real estate and inflicted pain on the Ukrainians, but without much of a plan for what to do next.
Putin’s impulsive move in 2014 was meant to assuage his ego and cover his appearance of weakness by stirring nationalism at home. But all of this was seven years ago, and now Russia is committed to a frozen conflict. To be sure, Putin has shown that he can take territory and sit on it, and force everyone else to get used to it. But sooner or later, even Russians—who in the main feel positively about their fellow Slavs in Ukraine—start asking if there’s a point to all this.
The point may well be deep in the dark recesses of Putin’s psyche. The Russian president has made no secret of his mourning for the old Soviet Union. (That wistfulness does not extend to socialism or communism; the world’s richest man might be an aging nostalgist but he’s not crazy.) And yet he has made it clear that he does not think Ukraine is a real country, but rather a renegade imperial possession that must be wrangled back into Kremlin control.
Putin’s emotional and visceral attachment to Ukraine is another reason why the West has limited sway in the situation that is now unfolding. American negotiators proceed from the assumption that they are discussing a political crisis among several countries; Putin, however, sees nothing but interference in a large and undifferentiated Russian domain. The Russians, even in Soviet times, were always in the grip of a paradox in which they saw themselves both as a great empire and a nation of dispossessed victims, and Putin is the prime example of Homo Sovieticus, a product of a system whose view of the world constantly wavered between paranoia and messianism.
This isn’t to say that Putin is irrational. Rather, he simply does not share a common frame of reference about the world with his opponents in the West. Americans might be right that Putin is on “the wrong side of history,”

That is not a zero threat, 1kiki. But maybe Russia is trolling! "LOL," Putin writes.
On the cover of the New York Times I see a Ukrainian soldier standing in a snow-covered trench that looks little different from those dug in 1914, and it seems to me I really don’t know what course the world is on. Russia has long seemed to me to be the ultimate troll state — analogically speaking, it establishes its notoriety through comments-level disingenuousness, rather than through OP’s, but it is such a master at the game of trolling that it has earned a reputation usually achieved only through the direct acquisition of a sizeable followership. It has seemed to me that Russia’s modus operandi from here on out, or at least as long as Putin is in power, will be to sow confusion, to never really do what it always seems poised to do, and to make that inaction itself a form of action by which it gets more or less what it wants.
Putin has said that the collapse of the Soviet Union was one of the great tragedies of the twentieth century. Sometime around 1994, the dissident author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, no friend of the Soviet Union, for his part opined that the break-up of the USSR happened too fast, and more of it broke away than naturally or organically belonged apart from Russia. Solzhenitsyn would have liked to see Belarus, the eastern Russophone parts of Ukraine, and some of the northwestern Russophone parts of Kazakhstan eventually returned to their proper place in the Russian Republic. Putin’s strategy over the last decade has been broadly to make good on Solzhenitsyn’s wish.
It is difficult to know to what extent Russia in its present form is a revanchist empire doing what empires have always done —maximizing its territory and its sphere of territorial influence— and to what extent it is part of this strange new order that I have attempted to describe in the previous sections, in which territory matters less and less, and abstract networks and influence more and more. The brave new world of abstract clout-seeking, however irrational, however frightening, has some advantages over the old world of imperial entrenchments. I often find myself wishing Putin would behave a bit more like Trump, hamming it up online for attention, instead of pulling away altogether from the engine that churns up short-lived influencers such as I still hope our last president will turn out to be. Instead, Putin seems to remain stuck in that old way of seeing things, where reality is still out there in the world itself, in the form of territory, of oceanic shelves and transcontinental pipelines, while the online is a distraction for fools.

I barely scroll thru your posts bc I have more important things to do than wade thru all of the spin and disinformation that you repost, so im going to give just one example of how your own posts contradict each other, and leave it at that.
Compare these two statements
Quote:
Putin threatened to nuke the USA over Ukraine, Signym.
21 Dec 2021 -- Today Dmitry Kiselyov, a media mogul known as Putin’s mouthpiece, warned US-led aggression could lead to a nuclear war.
He told NATO to back off, adding: “Otherwise, everyone will be turned into radioactive ash”.
and
Quote:
In November 2021, noted Russian journalist Pavel Felgenhauer pointed out that, “President Vladimir Putin declared that if the West deploys missiles to Ukraine that could reach Moscow ‘in five to ten minutes,’ Russia is ready to counter by deploying a ‘new naval hypersonic missile, which may reach [Western] decision-makers in 5 minutes, flying at Mach 9 speed.’ (Militarynews.ru, November 30).”
They're not the same. First of all, the first statement isn't even Putin's. It's western press saying that somebody said...
The second statement is ALSO not Putin's. Once again somebody said that somebody said.
If you want to know what Putin REALLY says, there's an English-language Kremlin website with extremely careful translations so there is no misunderstanding.

Russia did shoot down a plane over Ukraine that was going to the Netherlands. Putin saying it didn't happen means Putin is crazy. I don't know what Signym's position is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was denial that Flight MH17 was shot down by Russia.

If Russia invades Ukraine, this will not be just "disinformation", like when Signym/Putin deny Russian election interference or Putin denies Russians shooting down a plane. There will be Russian corpses, maybe enough corpses to make Putin stop his crazy lying and regain his sanity. But probably not.

The Russian president has urged the West to move quickly to meet his demands amid tensions over a troop buildup on Ukraine's border that has fueled fears of an invasion.

As far as Russian interference with the 2016 election, it was Trump, not Putin, that made Russian interference all about himself. Trump said he didn't collude with Russia. That's nice, Trump. Can you shut your flapping mouth about yourself and talk about Russian Interference? No, Trump could not talk about anything but himself. And Trump fired FBI Director Comey for investigating Russian interference. And Trump couldn't stop talking about firing Robert Mueller, who was investigating Russian interference. "Russian Interference" is even in the title of the final report (but nothing about Collusion in that title):
Report On The Investigation Into
Russian Interference In The
2016 Presidential Election

Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller, III

"Volume II addresses the President’s actions towards the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and related matters, and his actions towards the Special Counsel’s investigation."
WRITTEN QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED UNDER OATH BY PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP
What answers did Trump give?
1) "I have no independent recollection ..."
2) "I do not recall ..."
3) "I do not remember ..."
4) "I had no knowledge ..."
It is very peculiar that for a guy who cannot be quiet, Trump had nothing to say while under oath.

Robert Mueller asked Trump about Ukraine:
f. What role, if any, did you have in changing the Republican Party platform regarding arming Ukraine during the Republican National Convention? Prior to the convention, what information did you have about this platform provision? After the platform provision was changed, who told you about the change, when did they tell you, what were you told about why it was changed, and who was involved?
g. On July 27, 2016, in response to a question about whether you would recognize Crimea as Russian territory and lift sanctions on Russia, you said: "We'll be looking at that. Yeah, we'll be looking." Did you intend to communicate by that statement or at any other time during the campaign a willingness to lift sanctions and/or recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea if you were elected?
What consideration did you give to lifting sanctions and/or recognizing Russia's annexation of Crimea if you were elected? Describe who you spoke with about this topic, when, the substance of the discussion(s).
What were Trump’s answers? Nothing, which is extremely odd because the GOP platform was rewritten to give Putin everything he would ever want:
Trump’s Response to Question IV, Part (f)
I have no recollection of the details of what, when, or from what source l first learned about the change to the platform amendment regarding arming Ukraine, but I generally recall learning of the issue as part of media reporting. I keep forgetting you probably won't click links, and if you did, you won't understand what you read and yet I will quote the first paragraph about the Term 'Collusion': On the June 21 episode of Preet Bharara’s podcast, “Stay Tuned with Preet,” a listener called in to ask about the legal meaning of the word “collusion.” Bharara and his two guests were quick to set the record straight; the term collusion, despite it frequent use, has no actual legal definition outside of antitrust law. Instead, Bharara raised a different question for his guests: If collusion has no legal meaning in the context of the Russia investigation, then “why has the word … captured everyone’s attention?” What’s more, how did a word with no legal relevance to the case become so associated with the Trump-Russia allegations?

Quote:There was Russian Interference with the 2016 Election. Putin denied interfering, but that is a lie. Trump obstructed Mueller's Investigation of Russian Interference. Trump denied obstructing, but that is a lie, too. Mueller documented numerous efforts by Trump and his associates that prevented his team from gathering the evidence that it sought. Despite Attorney General William Barr’s characterization of the White House as “fully cooperative with the Special Counsel’s investigation,” the Mueller report paints a different picture. Mueller wrote about numerous instances in which witnesses lied or withheld information, deleted communications and used encrypted messaging applications. Other practical obstacles prevented Mueller from completing his investigation, including some witnesses’ refusal to answer questions on the basis of their Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.

According to its constitution, Russia is divided into 85 federal subjects, 22 of which are republics. Republics were meant to be nominally independent regions of Soviet Russia with the right to self-determination. At the turn of the century, Vladimir Putin's centralization reforms steadily eradicated all autonomy the republics had with the exception of Chechnya. The bilateral agreements were abolished and in practice all power rests with the federal government. With the termination of the final bilateral treaty in 2017, some commentators expressed that Russia ceased to be a federation.

SECOND: What Putin is attempting to do to Ukraine, he already has done to Russian republics. Putin has not asked Ukrainians for their permission,
And, as usual, you mirepresent the republics' status. They were never independent, but only relatively recently granted concessions by Yeltsin during the breakup of the Soviet Union. However, they were ALL still subject to Federal law and the constitution.
But the breakup was chaotic, driven by money-grabbing by local elites, and the various republics were given differing concessions leading to significant differences in authority, autonomy, and economic clout among them. Many of them adopted laws that clearly violated the Constitution.
It would be as if Mississippi voted slavery back into existence, for example, and Florida was required to maintain an army.
What the courts did was re-establish equality between them, creating clear divisions and lines of authority- what the Federal government is supposed to do, what th regions are supposed to do. Since the republics were still subject to Russian law and Constitution, and (BTW) still elected representatives to the Duma, this was done legislatively and through court decisions.
Quote:
Reform per se is nevertheless not a risky proposal. Changes were overdue to strengthen governance capacity; diminishing the influence of regional leaders over federal bureaucrats located in the regions; establishing more coherence in inter-budgetary relations, and sanctioning regions which flouted the constitution or federal laws. This article argues that it is possible to identify three axioms underlying Putin’s conception of federalism as articulated in his rhetoric and programme of reform, namely:
the equality of citizens,
symmetry of governments,
and a rigid division of powers and competences among
levels of authority.
So "Putin" didn't do "all th deciding".
At the same time, some of these regions are so sparsely populated that they can't even collect enough taxes to maintain administrative functions, so the federal government subsifies some of these regions to the tune of appx 45-55% of the budgets.
Quote:
In turn, the federal budget distributes subsidies to those regions that cannot collect enough taxes to ensure at least minimal local administrative functions. In 2020, 72 out of Russia’s 85 federal subjects were recipients of such payouts. The most dependent on federal subsidies are the national republics, like Tyva (subsidies account for 54 percent of the region’s budget revenues); Dagestan (52 percent); Chechnya (50 percent); Ingushetia (49 percent) and Altai (45 percent).

The only reason why the west wants to break up Russia is to be able to do away with the large national government, deal with smaller more vulnerable units and to exploit Russia's natural and economic resources on terms more favorable to non-Russian elites.

The War on ‘Wokeness’
The opponents of wokeness — whether they be conservatives who believe it injures the ideal of America as inherently good, or moderate Democrats worried that it handicaps their electoral prospects — want to kill it.
Republicans want to recast “wokeness” as progressive politics run amok, and many establishment Democrats shrink from the term because they either believe that Republicans have succeeded at the task, or, of even more concern, they agree with those Republicans.
Being awake to and aware of how our systems of power operate creates enemies across the political spectrum because wokeness indicts both Republicans and Democrats alike. Wokeness indicts the status quo.
And so, wokeness has been referred to in the most hyperbolic language imaginable, from ideology to religion to cult. It has been so derided and adulterated that young people who are what one would have called woke five years ago no longer even use the term.
Perhaps nothing helps to illustrate the chasm between moderates and progressives as well as a skirmish last week between the Democratic strategist James Carville and the Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

SECOND: Did Putin give Ukraine the equivalent of the Brexit Referendum?
NO.
Ukraine was an independent nation under Putin. It had its own President, its own Parliament (Rada), military, elections ... It was bound only by a trade association ... there was no Russian governance of Ukraine.
WTF ARE you going on about???? Do you even know?
Quote:Did Putin END 22 republics?
Nor did Putin have 22 Referendums before he ended 22 Russian Republics.
NO. The republics were not "ended", since they NEVER EXISTED as independent nations in the first place. They were all bound by the Russian constitution, were represented in the Duma, fell under the umbrella of the Russian nation (and military), did not have "international" borders, and existed as "titular nations" only.
So WTF ARE you going on about?
Do you even know?

AFA Russian economic performance .... well, let's see how Russia and the USA stack up in real terms.
The USA is in hock up to - and beyond- its ears, to... well, everyone.
The USA has major trade deficits with... well... everyone.
The USA standard of living has been falling for at least 30 years, and the middle class is disappearing.
The USA is de-industrialized and depends on ... well... everyone... for its major industrial chemicals, commodities, and parts.
Infrastructure is crumbling.
The USA is dependent on energy imports... even from Russia!
The USA's so-called "economy" is primarily made of services and the FIRE (finance, insurance, and real estate) sector, which are speculative and non-productive.
A major financial meltdown or loss of confidence in the USD would see much USA "wealth" disappear in a flash, along with a a large chunk of "GDP" which is nothing but funny-money.
Meanwhile, Russia's real economy is growing.
The standard of living is rising.
Russia's debt is 20% of GDP (not 120%, like the USA's) and the government is running a surplus
Russia is energy and food-secure.
Infrastructure is developing.
Seems like we need to manage and measure our economy so that it is something more than bubbles, speculation, and bullshit numbers. If we want to REALLY be independent and secure, we need a base on which to stand. We don't have that, but we should.

Anyway, poor Zelensky!
The US has no interest in Ukraine's welfare. The country is merely a soccer ball in what the US sees as a soccer match between the US and Russia. And, as Zelensky knows, no matter which team wins, the soccer ball is going to take a real beating.
Anyway, I had run across a quote from Zelensky a while back, but retrieving it took quite some sleuthing, involving an alternate search engine, an Indian online news source ( https://www.thehindu.com/news/international/there -is-no-overconcentration-of-russian-forces -near-ukraines-border-says-volodymyr -zelensky/article38325354.ece), and a search on the quote, in order to dig it out of 'mainstream' news, in order to link a 'source' that won't be disputed.
But to be specific, I couldn't find that quote with google or duck at all, but did find it using the exact same search terms in an alternate search engine. Nor did that specific quote get me more than 1 hit in mass western media (the m$m).
Quote:
The risks have not just existed for a day, and they have not become bigger. The only thing that has become bigger is the hype around them. -Zelensky

However, that search did come up with something I find amusing!

President Donald Trump offered Vladimir Putin U.S. help with Siberian wildfires and also threatened to withdraw federal emergency funding to California.
President Donald Trump seems more willing to help Russia fight wildfires than California, considering he just threatened to cut off federal aid to the state months after offering to aid Russia in battling blazes in parts of Siberia. On Sunday, Trump slammed California Governor Gavin Newsom for his handling of the wildfires and vaguely warned that he would end the federal funding. Newsom declared a statewide emergency last week in an effort to mobilize resources.
“Every year, as the fire’s rage & California burns, it is the same thing—and then he comes to the Federal Government for $$$ help. No more. Get your act together Governor. You don’t see close to the level of burn in other states,” Trump wrote on Twitter…
The president’s remarks about California’s governor come after he offered last summer to help Russia fight a similar battle against wildfires. According to the Kremlin, Trump made the offer to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a phone call in early August. At the time, the wildfires were so large that Greenpeace Russia said they were creating an “ecological catastrophe.” Putin reportedly expressed his “sincere gratitude” to Trump for the offer and said that if necessary he would take him up on it.
What Trump said about Russia
In August 2019, the Russian government published a statement about a phone call between Trump and Putin on July 31. That statement read as follows:
“Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump this evening at the American side’s initiative. The US President offered help in putting out wildfires in Siberia. The President of Russia expressed sincere gratitude for the kind attention and the offer of help and assistance. Vladimir Putin said he will accept the offer if it becomes necessary. He also told his American colleague that a powerful group of aircraft had been formed in Siberia to fight the wildfires. According to the Emergencies Ministry, solutions have been found to problems with the refueling and deployment of airplanes and helicopters.
“The President of Russia regards the US President’s offer as a sign that it is possible that full-scale bilateral relations will be restored in the future. The presidents of Russia and the United States agreed to continue contacts in the form of telephone conversations as well as personal meetings.”
We asked the White House whether they could corroborate, even broadly, the Russian government’s characterization of the call. Unfortunately, we did not receive a response.
At the time, a White House spokesperson did not contradict that version of events and told news outlets that, during his conversation with Putin, Trump had “expressed concern over the vast wildfires afflicting Siberia.” This characterization, combined with the Russian description of an offer to help, means it’s perfectly plausible that Trump did make such an offer.
We found confirmation that he did in a video of an Aug. 1 press conference during which Trump said the following when reporters asked him about the phone call:
“Mostly we discussed the forest fires in Siberia, and other parts of Russia. And I said, look, we have the greatest equipment, if we could help you let us know. Large sections are burning, and so I said to President Putin, if we can help you, let me know.”

Snopes is even less legitimate as fact checkers than the AP are.
Newsom is too busy ensuring that businesses have a genderless toy aisle to be worried about forest fires or shipping issues.

After six decades, Russia will build its final Proton rocket this year
Proton had reliability issues and could not compete with SpaceX's Falcon 9.
International demand slackened, in part, due to a series of high-profile failures. At the end of 2010, one Proton rocket plunged into the ocean because too much propellant had been mistakenly loaded into its upper stage. In 2013, another vehicle performed a fiery dance seconds after liftoff because flight control sensors were hammered into the rocket’s compartment upside down. (The spectacular disaster is worth watching.)
These technical problems arose just as competitors, particularly SpaceX with its Falcon 9 rocket, undercut the Proton on cost and offered better reliability. This reduced costs for satellite operators through lower insurance premiums.
With the Angara-A5 rocket, Russia hopes to recapture some of this international satellite launch market. However, it depends on whether Russia can reduce production costs of the Angara-A5 rocket from $100 million per launch to $57 million by 2024, the country's stated goal.
Even this ambitious target for the fully expendable rocket probably won't help Russia too much in the competition for commercial launches, however. SpaceX has already demonstrated that it can re-fly its Falcon 9 booster for less than $30 million.

Devoid of any morals or principles, his goalposts are mired in quicksand for easy moving back and forth. A handy trick to be sure, if you're looking to sow discord from the shadows. Norway's PM says Russia build-up is `a sign of weakness'
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Norway’s prime minister, whose country borders Russia and is a founding member of NATO, said Wednesday he believes it’s “a sign of weakness” that President Vladimir Putin has to express Moscow’s political views by an “extraordinary” military buildup.
Jonas Gahr Støre said in an interview with The Associated Press that he calls it a sign of weakness because it’s at the negotiating table where issues that matter to people should be discussed, not by “that kind of military demonstration,” and by pursuing Russia’s interests where “the weapons will speak.”
He said he thinks Putin’s demand now for guarantees — including that NATO will never admit neighboring Ukraine and other ex-Soviet nations as members — is a result of the loss of post-Cold War communications channels and dialogue that led to differences being settled through negotiations following after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula in 2014.
“So there have been more kind of animosity and destructive relations among countries that need to engage,” Støre said.

Kremlin TV Worries Tucker Carlson’s Pro-Putin Bias Has Gone Too Far
Top Russian state propagandists are concerned that no one will take the Fox News host seriously any more.
In 2022, he is unabashedly pushing the talking points favored by the Kremlin and no longer making excuses. Carlson is going so far to support the Russian propaganda narrative that prominent personalities on the Kremlin-funded state television are concerned about his future in the United States. Last Sunday, one of Russia’s most-watched television networks Channel One played the clip from Carlson’s show, where he argued that Russia’s anger at NATO’s alleged involvement in Ukraine was well-justified. Reporter Ivan Blagoy then noted the Fox News host “is predictably being accused of playing along with Moscow.”
Broadcasting the same translated clip of Carlson last week on Russia’s second most-watched TV network, Rossiya-1, host of 60 Minutes Evgeny Popov fawned over Carlson by describing him as one of the “voices of truth and reason” and complained that the host of the most-watched show in all of cable news with millions of viewers is being “silenced and marginalized.” In 2020, Popov demonstrated his affinity for Carlson by introducing him as “practically our co-host.”
On Thursday, Carlson reiterated the same slight and described Ukraine—the largest state entirely within Europe and the second largest on the continent after Russia—as “a pretty small country.” He added: “Vladimir Putin is our most dangerous enemy, they scream. We can’t let him hurt Ukraine. So it turns out Russiagate was actually more effective even than we’d realize. The Steele dossier has been debunked, but in Washington, the theme remains in force: Russia, Russia, Russia. Russia is bad. What is this about, exactly? Well, obviously it’s the usual collection of children falling for the usual collection of lies, but why this specific lie?” He later added: “You still have to wonder, invasion or not, why is any of this a profound concern of ours? Why would you even consider risking American lives or sending billions of dollars to stop it?”
Predictably, Carlson’s portrayal of Ukraine as a small, corrupt, insignificant nation that is of no consequence to the U.S. is in perfect alignment with the way Russia’s beleaguered neighbor is being smeared on Kremlin-funded state television, in order to humiliate the fledgling democracy and dissuade it from resisting Russian aggression.

That one word, thoughtless, gets to the center of the problem with people like Putin, Trump, and even nobodies like Signym and 1kiki. Some crucial element is missing from their personalities. What they are missing allows them to deny Putin closed down 22 Russian Republics without a referendum by the citizens of those Republics and to deny Putin will close down Ukraine in the same fashion if his Army prevails.
Putin, Trump, and nobodies like Signym and 1kiki have claimed Putin did not interfere with the 2016 election and Trump did not obstruct justice when the FBI investigated the Russian interference which Putin says never happened. But truthfully it did happen.
Putin, Trump, Signym and 1kiki don't believe the truth. Adolf Eichmann showed them how to avoid truth. Eichmann died with the words: "I'm taking it calmly with peace in my heart which is to me proof that I was correct." -- Unrepentant Eichmann hanged

Quote:I was watching Spider-Man: No Way Home. There is a villain called Doc Ock who is crazy, but his cure is to fix the electronic interface with his octopus arms to return him to sanity. I've been of the opinion that people like Putin and Trump are crazy, but fixable like Doc Ock. But what if normality for them was never sanity? See Adolf Eichmann, who could function well in any bureaucratic environment. To the very end, Eichmann believed he was right. What do you do with people like that, or Trump and Putin, other than keep them away from power? Unlike for Doc Ock, I don't think there will ever be a cure for people like Putin, Trump or Eichmann. Eichmann had 17 years of quiet time after the fall of Third Reich to contemplate what was wrong, but his brain couldn't understand.
