Russia Says It Sees Little Scope for Optimism in U.S. Proposals on Ukraine

Russia said that it didn’t see much reason for optimism that the West would accept its demands over de-escalating the standoff over Ukraine, and said Russian President Vladimir Putin would take his time in considering proposals delivered by the U.S. and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization a day earlier.

Ten days of sunny to mostly sunny weather 60=70 deg daytime high.

THIS is the weather that I love!

Too bad I'll be indoors recovering from chemo.

Yes, I have cancer, That "nothing" mammo turned out to be a small but aggressive type of cancer that popped up and metastasized into at least one lymph node between mammograms. Helped along by one (rare) bad gene that didn't turn up on the usual 8=gene panel, but needed a full 90-gene panel to be revealed. (no family Hx of breast cancer, and this one has nothing to do with hormones or pregnanacy or breastfeeding or abortions, it's called a HER2+ cancer combined with a BARD1 gene defect that means I don't repair DNA very well. I guess I got "lucky". The geneticist was all excited to find it. Me, not so much.)

I've been on chemo since mid-Oct, and I gotta say: it sucks. One more infusion in three weeks, then surgery to remove breast and lymph nodes, see how much cancer remains, recovery, then back on another less stringent form of chemo for another 9 months. If not a cure, then life prolongs for another 3 years, maybe more.

Gotta say, chemo sucks. Lost most of my hair, but nobody tells you you can lose your fingernails and toenails too. Nerve damage: everything tastes bitter, especially the "good for me" foods like ... oh pretty much any source of protein like meat, cheese, anything aged (soy, saurkraut, pickled anything) or anything with ANY bitterness in the falvorprofile. eve apples taste bitter.

Cumulative nerve damage elsewhere too- can't feel my fingertips very well, my toes, or the balls of my feet so I have to pick up things very carefully, walk carefully, and I lose my balance often bc I can't tell where my weight is on my feet. I tripped and fell down... hard... while walking the dog, tore the elbow off a VERY heavy duty-shirt and skinned myself up pretty good. Lost a lot of weight. Needed two transfusions bc of anemia due to general bone marrow suppression. Aches and pains like the worst flu-like body aches X5 from the Neulasta used to boost white blood cell production. Diarrhea. Need my heart function checked every three months to make sure I'm not developing heart failure. Palpitations and supraventricular tachycardia. Fatigue. It's been a cavalcade of side effects and medications to manage the side effects. Fortunately, the vomitting hasn't happened.

But! Only one more to go! Looking forward to that, and eventual recovery and some semblance of better health and activity.

The family has been very helpful. Dear daughter = despite her anxieties and disabilities- has been really pitching in and very patient with my outbursts and bad temper, and just gives me a hug. What a sweetie! Hubby and she have been running all my usual errands, and he's been taking me for my appointments and staying with me for my infusions (which last pretty mcuh all day bc they're pumping so much stiff into me) and I have one relative in the area who's been staying with dear daughter while I'm being infused and helping out in a myriad of ways, buying me tolerable foods like whey powder and egg white powder and providing me with medical advice and help and moral support.

So, life goes on.

May this New Year be better than the old!

PS I will erase this post shortly.

HUH. You typed out that narrative just for me?? How flattering!

WHAT does that have to do with the topic?

Yes, all of that crap about Russian troops on the border, ready to invade, is all FAKE NEWS. It's denied by the Ukrainians, French, Germans, and pretty much everyone in the area. The only ones pushing that narrative are Biden* and BoJo.

Everyone else knows it's bullshit. Just like everything else you post.

And BTW you're crazy and a sociopathic liar.

I could check Signym's statement for accuracy. It is not accurate and is getting pretty close to an outright lie:

Zelenskiy said he did not consider the situation more tense than before. “There is a feeling abroad that there is war here. That’s not the case,” he said. “I am not saying an escalation is not possible … but we don’t need this panic.”

Europeans have taken a more cautious approach to predictions of a Russian attack than Washington. The head of Germany’s foreign intelligence service said on Friday that Russia was not yet fixed on an invasion, although it was prepared. “I believe that the decision to attack has not yet been made,” Bruno Kahl told Reuters.

In Washington, the chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, Gen Mark Milley, agreed: “We don’t think final decisions have been made.”

However, Milley said the current buildup of Russian troops was greater “than anything we’ve seen in recent memory”.

“Given the type of forces that are arrayed – the ground manoeuvre forces, the artillery, the ballistic missiles, the air forces, all of it packaged together – if that was unleashed on Ukraine, it would be significant. Very significant,” the general said.

Are you still convinced Nobody dies from Covid? I see you're still convinced vaccination doesn't work because that conviction is in your signature. And by the way, Adolf Eichmann was executed in 1962 for mass murder in Nazi death camps but he is exactly the kind of Republican who firmly believes Trump won: "Adolf Hitler may have been wrong all down the line, but one thing is beyond dispute: the man was able to work his way up from lance corporal in the German Army to Führer of a people of almost 80 million. ... His success alone proved that I should subordinate myself to this man." - Adolf Eichmann — As quoted in "The Eichmann Memoir" in The Personalist Volume XLII (1961)

I really don't expect Trump and Putin supporters/defenders to step back a few feet and look at who you are favoring and suddenly realize you have been fooled. Estonian PM warns against 'any steps towards Russia'

Europe and the US should be "very careful" not to make concessions to Russia, Estonia's prime minister told AFP on Friday, insisting that Moscow alone can de-escalate the situation.

Kaja Kallas, whose country hosts a NATO multinational battalion, also said she had been holding talks to strengthen NATO's presence in Estonia as a deterrent amid soaring tensions over Ukraine.

Russia loses a million people in historic population fall

Russia's population declined by more than one million people in 2021, the statistics agency Rosstat reported Friday, a historic drop not seen since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Ongoing demographic woes have been exacerbated by the pandemic with Rosstat figures showing more than 660,000 had died with coronavirus since health officials recorded the first case in the country.

The new figures continue a downward trend from the previous year when Russia's population fell by more than half a million.

The Covid-related fatalities figures published monthly by Rosstat are far higher than death figures released by a separate government website, which is dedicated to tracking the pandemic in the country.

Those government website figures only take into account fatalities where the virus was established as the primary cause of death after an autopsy and shows just 329,443 total fatalities.

The discrepancy has fed into criticism that the Russian government has been downplaying the severity of the pandemic in one of the worst-hit countries by cases in the world.

You're a fucking idiot.

I actually think Republicans are Adolf Eichmann while he was on trial in Israel. With him, the truth was Fake News. His defense was that the Holocaust was Fake News and that he was a Liberal and Patriot. His attitude was "How dare you put me on trial for being merely a paper pusher? I never killed anyone. You should have put the real killer on trial -- Roosevelt who bombed German women and children." Eichmann's version of reality did not convince the judges. About half of Germans agreed with Eichmann's reality but they didn't go on trial because they were neither famous nor unusual.

Putin and Trump aren't on trial, just yet, but the Truth is always Fake News with those two and their fans love that about them. When someone confronts Trump with the Truth, he gets very angry, calling them liars selling Fake News. His fans love that about him. When someone confronts Putin with the Truth, he laughs or he politely and firmly denies the accusations. Putin is a much smoother liar than Trump. Putin is admired for that by his fans and political base.

My political sentiments inclined toward the left and emphasized the socialist aspects every bit as much as nationalist ones. — Adolf Eichmman's memoir, quoted in Gotz Aly, Hitler’s Beneficiaries. How the Nazis Bought the German People (London: Verso, 2007), pp. 16-17.

During cross-examination, prosecutor Hausner asked Eichmann if he considered himself guilty of the murder of millions of Jews. Eichmann replied: "Legally not, but in the human sense ... yes, for I am guilty of having deported them". When Hausner produced as evidence a quote by Eichmann in 1945 stating: "I will leap into my grave laughing because the feeling that I have five million human beings on my conscience is for me a source of extraordinary satisfaction." Eichmann countered the claim saying that he was referring only to "enemies of the Reich". — Great World Trials; The Adolph Eichmann Trial 1961 (1997) pages 332-337.

"Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated"

Any happy idiot - except THUGR - knows that the three Bs +PU are viscerally anti-Russian. (In case you don't know what those are, THUGR, they are the three Baltic states Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, which are tiny, plus Poland and Ukraine. Except Ukraine, facing the Russian bear and calculating its chances of survival if it pokes the bear, has moderated its stance lately. It doesn't want the USA to fight Russia "down to the last Ukrainian").

Meanwhile, Bulgaria has said they will pull their NATO troops out of any fight in Ukraine; and France and Germany (and Italy, on the sidelines) are frantically pushing Ukraine to back off of its hostile anti-Russian stance, re-institute the cease fire and potentially make progress on the Minsk accord ... which Ukraine signed, and was approved by the UN Security council including an assenting vote from the USA ... because they desperately don't want to see a war in Europe which would require them to slit their own throats and derail Nordstream2. Even Josep Borrel, the High Representative of EU Foreign Affairs, has toned down his shrill sound in the past few weeks.

There is a clear division of opinion in NATO. The USA and Britain, which both feel insulated from a European war, are still pushing for war with Russia. Some EU states are still very shrill about RUSSIA!RUSSIA! Others are weighing their futures, and still others have definitely pulled back.

This whole "crisis" is a USA/British construct. It all started when Ukraine moved its troops eastward last summer and threatened to re-start the war on the DPR/LDNR. Then Russia moved troops towards the west (but still 100 miles inside their own borders).

The ONLY ONES hyping this "Russian invasion" are the USA and Britain. The USA has taken its show on the road, with CIA director Burns, Sullivan and Blinken taking turns trotting their wares (cropped satellite photos) around various EU capitals, while much of the EU remains unconvinced. Yes, the USA has been able to twist arms and force German pols to reluctantly agree to sanctions "if" Russia invades Ukraine, but the Germans and French are doing everything in their power to make sure that no possibility exists where the USA, or some rogue element in Ukraine, can can create a provoking incident.

Germany is SO unconvinced, it just sent 5000 helmets(!) to Ukraine as part of the "defense effort". I can't decide if that crosses the line into "insult" territory, or not.

Neil Young’s censorious crusade against Joe Rogan exemplifies the Left’s increasing hostility to free speech.

https://www.city-journal.org/neil-young-v-joe-rogan-and-free-speech

Quote:

If you doubt that “censor” is an appropriate word to describe those pressuring Spotify to dump Rogan, consider this: the platform is the world’s largest streaming service, with a whopping 31 percent market share in the second quarter of 2021. When a private corporation controls such a large portion of an information ecosystem, its content decisions are more than mere acts of moderation; it is laying out the boundaries of the discourse itself. That’s precisely why Young believed that Rogan’s views shouldn’t have a platform.

This brings us to perhaps the most surprising detail about this episode: since when did Young become the sort of person to advocate for shutting up his ideological opponents? The rock and folk artist made his name as a countercultural figure in the 1960s, raging against the cultural and political establishment, working with Crosby, Stills, & Nash to release “Ohio,” a powerful protest song released after the killing of student protesters at Kent State University in 1970. The song became an anthem for the anti-Vietnam War movement. Some mainstream AM radio stations, sensitive to lyrics referring to “soldiers gunning us down,” banned it, but underground radio helped make it a hit anyway. Young continued to be a mainstay of the counterculture in the decades to come. In 2006, he reunited with Crosby, Stills, & Nash to barnstorm the country singing anti-Iraq War and anti-George W. Bush songs. They called it the “Freedom of Speech Tour” and kicked it off in Philadelphia, birthplace of the Constitution.

Young’s transformation from countercultural champion of freedom of speech to corporate censorship advocate and defender of the public-health bureaucracy didn’t occur in a vacuum. Progressives have become increasingly censorious over the past few years. A majority of Democrats now believe that both private tech companies and the U.S. government should “take steps to restrict false info online.”

You're on the wrong side of history here, Second.

They're already paying 400% more for natural gas since they did the Leftist thing and went full blown wind energy that didn't work this year because the wind didn't cooperate.

Real easy for NATO to say. It's easy to spend other people's money.

UK says Russia sanctions law will leave ‘nowhere to hide’: Live

The British government will introduce new legislation this week to broaden the scope of sanctions it can apply to Russia in an effort to deter aggression towards Ukraine, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has said.

“Any company of interest to the Kremlin and the regime in Russia would be able to be targeted so there will be nowhere to hide for Putin’s oligarchs, for Russian companies involved in propping up the Russian state,” she said on Sunday.

Russia threatened to turnoff Germany's natural gas supply is what it means.

After the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014, in the intervening years, Putin’s aggression has “made Ukraine much more self-conscious; he’s pushed it to the West,” Jensen told Vox. “Even if he conquered the country, this would not stop.”

Although Ukraine’s post-Soviet democratic project has been flawed, recent events evince a desire among the Ukrainian people to continue building a stable, functional democracy that cooperates with the West — a desire that’s not just incompatible with Putin’s mythologizing of the ties between Russia and Ukraine, but potentially a threat to Putin’s own hold on power. A fully independent, democratic Ukraine could well signal to Russians that the Putin model isn’t their only option, and that popular uprisings can produce meaningful change.

“I think for [Putin] it’s quite important to prove that no, this democracy is not really genuine, that it’s the West that wants to impose it on the Ukrainians,” Ukrainian journalist Nataliya Gumenyuk told the New Yorker last week. “To admit that societies can do it themselves is to admit that change could be possible in Belarus, in Georgia, and in Russia as well.”

But while Ukraine has made a concerted effort — particularly since the election of President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2019 — to engage with the US and Western institutions, it’s not clear that the West is reciprocating, Snegovaya told Vox.

“Major Western countries visibly lack unity on this issue,” she said. “Germany’s behavior is particularly unacceptable — it has been blocking Estonia’s weapons supplies to Ukraine.”

Last week, Germany refused to allow Estonia to sell German-made weapons to Ukraine under a so-called third-party agreement, frustrating NATO allies and German politicians alike. Germany has been loath to upset its relationship with Russia over the contentious Nord Stream 2 pipeline, making it more cautious than the US, for example, which is allowing Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania to sell US-made weapons to Ukraine.

Going forward, Snegovaya told Vox, there’s little doubt that Putin will take advantage of the West’s uneven stance on Ukraine to paint a favorable narrative in Russia — similar to how he’s used a misleading narrative about the historical relationship between Russia and Ukraine. “Instead of a message of strength, the alliance communicates a message of weakness,” Snegovaya said, “and Putin, as an experienced, opportunistic player, unquestionably sees that.”

Hmmm.. apparently some ppl here don't know their geography, and haven't a clue how fuel supplies work.

Russia is right next to Europe, and pipeline gas will ALWAYS be cheaper than LNG, which requires huge compressors, special ships, and re-expansion terminals.

How do you suppose Qatar is going to get gas to Europe, in quantity, at a reasonable cost, hmmm?

I can't think of how.

Biden* is fucking delusional if he thinks that the ME can make up for natgas piped in from nearby, without driving costs thru the stratosphere.

But then, he's* delusional if he thinks that Russia has the slightest interest in invading Ukraine, absent a hostile act from the west.

This whole drumbeat smells of SADDAM! WMD! MUSHROOM CLOUD! TERRORISTS! when Colin Powell stooped to making a complete ass of himself at the UN by shaking a little vial of laundry detergent powder and showing grainy uninterpretable photos.

And we all know how that turned out.

Ukraine Russia crisis: Kremlin says there was a 'mix-up' in its response to US

The Kremlin said Tuesday that there had been a "mix-up" over its reply to the United States on the Ukraine crisis, as diplomatic efforts to deter a Russian invasion picked up pace.

State Department officials confirmed Monday they had "received a written followup from Russia" to a document of proposals the US sent to the Kremlin last week on how to defuse tensions and pave the way for further security talks in response to Russia's demands on security .

On Tuesday, however, the Kremlin said that Russia had not yet sent its "main reply" to the US. "There was a mix-up," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in a conference call. "It [the Russian correspondence] regarded a different matter. The main reply on this issue hasn't been handed over, it's still being prepared."

Putin Says He Deserves Ukraine as Consolation for Losing White House

Offering the diplomatic community a new rationale for his recent actions, Vladimir Putin said that he deserves Ukraine as consolation for losing the White House in 2020.

“Losing control of the most powerful nation on earth was a bitter pill for me to swallow, to say the least,” the Russian President said. “Giving me Ukraine would make things somewhat better.”

“It’s only fair,” he continued.

At the White House, President Biden called Putin’s logic “unacceptable,” but added, “At least he admits he lost.”

I keep waiting for this disaster the happen, and so far the only disasters seem to be American.

Blinken called Chinese Foreign Scy Wang Yi, asking China to use its influence with Russia about Ukraine (seriously???) and got a boot up his ass.
https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202201/1248060.shtml

Biden* took his propaganda show to the UN Security Council and every single non-NATO nation there told the USA some version of STFU and negotiate with Russia.

Macron (France), Scholz (Germany), Orban (Hungary), and Italy are all negotiatimg directly - bypassing the EU and NATO- with the Kremlin on energy and security issues

The effect of those monster sanctions against Russia (kicking Russia from SWIFT, blocking energy exports from Russia) has been found to be so uniformly devastating to the west that they are quietly being scaled back.

So unsurprisingly Jen Psaki is walking back talk of "imminent" invasion of Ukraine.

This is a worse debacle than Afghanistan. Whoever is crafting our foreign policy (Burns, Nuland, Blinken) need to have their heads exaxmined. They bluster and threaten and try to drum up hysteria but they have an EXTREMELY weak hand militarily, economically, financially, and politically, and everyone knows it except them.

And you guys are gluttons for disinformation.
When will you learn?

BTW, saying that the USA needs to do better is patriotic. Mindless rah-rahism however weakens the USA because it prevents recognition of our flaws and delays essential improvement.

Even the press doubts Biden* spox on that whole "crisis actors" angle, and when AP reporter demands evidence (instead of allegations) the best the spox can do is

1) we have declassified evidence... that we can't show you, and
2) you're a Russian troll (which is the dodge of weak minds and liars everywhere)

6ix, your opinion about who is worst depends on what you are hiding inside -- the worst things about yourself. I'll give you a very real example: Worst President Ever is either James Buchanan, who served just before Lincoln, or Andrew Johnson, who was Lincoln's V.P. As for Lincoln, he was deemed the WORST PRESIDENT, if Confederates were asked, while Buchanan and Johnson were the BEST. Buchanan would not arrest any of the Confederates who were making noises about going to war and Johnson pardoned all the Confederates who Buchanan wouldn't arrest. I have seen in life that the worst people I know -- least trustworthy, lowest integrity, most dishonesty -- defend the worst Presidents, which includes slave-owning, tax-cheating (Nixon, Trump), and wannabe President-for-Life (Putin, Trump) Presidents.

Naive young lad I was at the time. I had no idea that Obama would come in and be worse and then his VP would make most of us long for the days Obama or GWB were president.

I wouldn't say worst President "ever" since I've only experienced 9
10 (I barely remember Kennedy). They all had their good points and bad points.

Johnson was pretty bad. He sent a lot of young men to death in a pointless war, then blew the budget on his Great Society and caused a huge inflation problem for Nixon to solve. OTOH he did desegregate the south. On balance, he sucked.

Nixon was personally paranoid and weasely, but he ended the great bleeding wound that was Vietnam, and tackled Johnson's stagflation problem with wage-price controls and taking the dollar off the gold standard, substituting the petrodollar instead. Started the EPA. OTOH Kissinger was his foreign policy advisor, a war criminal, and supported tyrants like Pinochet and Suharto with massive loss of life and freedom around the world. So, on balance, HE sucked!

Ford wasn't in office very long, I recall "couldn't walk and chew gum".

Carter was a sincere person and intelligent, introduced the notion of "human rights". OTOH he had the "brilliant" idea of arming and funding Islamic radicals in Afghanistan to drive out the Soviets, not realizing what a force for evil they would become. On balance, prolly not terrible, but naive.

Reagan. Oh, my! "Star Wars" defense system (lots of $$$ to the MIC!), Iran- Contra, tac cuts for the rich. But he did sign a nuclear disarmament treaty with the Soviets which reduced stockpiles of warheads in both nations. Some very good actions, some terrible.

Clinton. Wholly owned by the banks and transnationals. Actually reduced the deficit, taking advantage of the "peace dividend" but ... free trade, commodities speculation, cozied up to China, killed Glass Steagall, and in general set the stage for the USA becoming a financialist nation, and for the pickled we're in today. On balance, terrible.

GWB continues in the same tradition as Clinton but adds a couple of wars in the Mideast. Adds Rx to Medicare but forbids Medicare from negotiating for best prices, tax cuts for the rich, blows up the USA deficit, adding fuel to the 2008 fire-to-be.

Obama. Continues " interventionist" foreign policy by destroying Libya, attempting to destroy Syria, conducting a coup in Ukraine, and bailing out the banks to the tune of $17 trillion. Promotes identity politics. Can't think of a single good thing. About on par with GWB. Terrible.

Trump- lofty goals. Took us out of free.trade deals (good) and attempted to secure the border, but couldn't wrest control of the admin from closet neocons and rabid partisans in State Dept, CUA, and FBI. Will be remembered more for what he failed to accomplish.

Biden* - a sock puppet. Administration factions fighting each other. Imposed illegal medical mandates, smeared half of the USA electorate as "white supremacist terrorists", blew up the budget causing inflation ... the final word has not been written. Maybe some faction will pull his administration out of a nosedive.

I think it's kind of a tie so far between Johnson, GWB, Clinton and Obama in terms of not representing America's interests.

Dismal Russian record in occupied eastern Ukraine serves as warning

The Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine’s Luhansk and Donetsk regions were once the engines of the country’s economy and dominated its politics.

They produced its richest man, billionaire industrialist Rinat Akhmetov, as well as former President Viktor Yanukovych, ousted by the street protests that triggered the Russian invasion in 2014.

Since then, however, the two areas—now nominally independent “people’s republics” inside the larger regions of Luhansk and Donetsk—have turned into impoverished, depopulated enclaves that increasingly rely on Russian subsidies to survive. As much as half the prewar population of 3.8 million has left, for the rest of Ukraine, more prosperous Russia or Europe. Those who remain are disproportionately retirees, members of the security services and people simply too poor to move. Current economic output has shrunk to roughly 30% of the level before the Russian invasion, economists estimate.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin is massing more than 100,000 troops for a possible broader invasion of Ukraine, the developments in Donetsk and Luhansk show what many fear could happen to the rest of the country if he were to carry that out. The dismal record of Russian rule is one reason so many Ukrainian citizens, including Russian-speakers, are ready to take up arms so that their hometowns won’t meet the same fate.

“The nightmare that started in 2014 in Donetsk has transformed the popular attitudes in mostly Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine,” said Oleksiy Goncharenko, a lawmaker from Odessa, one of the cities in southern and eastern Ukraine rocked by large-scale pro-Russian protests at the time.

“Back in 2014, the majority here were undecided—their main priority was to keep living normally, working in their businesses, sending their kids to school,” Mr. Goncharenko said. “Since then, they’ve seen very clearly that life is quiet only in the areas where the Ukrainian flag remains. They said: We don’t want to live in such a zombie zone, in some kind of Somalia.”

Borys Korolyov, a native of Luhansk city, is now studying at a university in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, some 220 miles away. On a recent day, he lingered for a few minutes while his cellphone still worked in Stanytsia Luhanska, a crossing point from Ukrainian-controlled to Russian-held areas. Then he picked up his suitcase and headed across a bridge into Luhansk, to visit his parents.

“In Kharkiv, there are new, unexpected things, opportunities at every corner,” said Mr. Korolyov. “In Luhansk, there is nothing to do except stay at home. Boring. No prospects for the future.”

. . . One of the hundreds of prisoners there was Ukrainian novelist and journalist Stanislav Aseev, who was detained in 2017 after local security officials discovered he was contributing under a pen name to Ukrainian news outlets. Mr. Aseev, who says he was repeatedly tortured with electric shock, was freed in December 2019 as part of a prisoner exchange and now lives near Kyiv.

“They’ve managed to rebuild a Soviet system in the occupied territories—and not the Soviet system of the 1960s and 1970s, but a Soviet system of the 1930s and 1940s, with dungeons, with torture chambers, a system where lives are ruined if you dare to write or say something negative about these republics and their authorities,” Mr. Aseev said.

Russia still doesn’t formally recognize the self-proclaimed independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, something it has already granted to Abkhazia and South Ossetia. A bill to do so is making its way through the Russian parliament. Meanwhile, Russia has increasingly absorbed the two enclaves into its own economy.

The breakaway areas have switched from the Ukrainian currency to the Russian ruble; their citizens have been issued Russian passports; their students receive Russian diplomas; and the leaders of both republics last year publicly joined Mr. Putin’s political party, United Russia. Mr. Putin recently ordered the exten

Who the hell is Mr Aseev, and why should we believe his allegations?

I mean,if you want to talk to talk about human rights violations, how about the 3000+ civilians in eastern Ukraine killed by Kiev?

And if you want to talk about collapsed economy and depopulation, why not discuss western Ukraine?

Stanislav Aseyev, journalist and former prisoner of terrorists, posted on his Facebook page that Russian citizens Yuri Krivonos, Vladimir Butenko and Ruslan Yeremichev are involved in brutal torture, beatings and violation of human dignity.

“Now, having the data of their Russian passports, claims over violation of laws and customs of war can be lodged officially against the Russian Federation. I hope that the Trilateral Contact Group and our Ministry of Foreign Affairs will do this in the near future,” Aseyev noted. (Monday, 07 February 2022, 01:29)

Maybe the Russians are doing what the Pentagon and State Department say they are doing. But our mantra should be “Don’t trust unless you can verify.” And this is a good place to suggest that you keep your eyes peeled for false-flag propaganda emanating from the United States. Given the deep state’s fondness for doing exactly what they accuse their opponents of, I would not be at all surprised to see Kirby, Price, and Jen Psaki solemnly describing foreign tragedies that were born and bred in the U.S. of A. As a friend observed, the FBI probably already owns all the Nazi paraphernalia in North America. You never know when a swastika will come in handy to smear an imaginary “domestic terrorist,” disgruntled trucker, or angry parent complaining about his local school board.

A better read: Why Russia loves banging on the 'fake news' drum

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has a knack for soundbites, and the allegation by US officials that Russia was cooking up a "graphic propaganda video" to create a pretext for invading Ukraine was no exception.

"This is delusional, in my opinion, this kind of fabrication," he told a Russian reporter Friday. "And there are more and more of them every day, it is obvious to any more or less experienced political scientist."

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) loves a fake news story -- that is, they love to pounce on anything they can present as Western spin, dissembling or propaganda.

When it comes to generating disinformation, the Russian government has a formidable track record, but the war in Donbas has taken the practice to new heights for Russia. The downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014 was the textbook case. Russian media spun out a range of conspiracy theories to explain the tragedy, from the somewhat-plausible to the absurd. The Dutch Joint Investigation Team, which conducted the criminal investigation into the crash, concluded that the aircraft was brought down by a Buk missile system that ultimately belonged to the Russian army.

intl/index.html

Russia has always fought back against the Truth with a cheap method: declare that the Truth is a Lie and then present Russian lies as the Real Truth. Because words have a price to produce of approximately zero, this method costs Russia almost nothing, which is why Russia uses the method constantly.

When Biden won, people like 1kiki and Signym began referring to Biden as Biden* and demanded audits of the vote. How are those audits going about who truly won? Trump was also referring to Biden as a fake winner, but Trump has always been throwing Fake News accusations about everything. It is completely predictable that 74,222,958 Trump voters would go along with Trump rather than declare his constant lying about everything all the time as the end of Trump's career. I would never expect a Trump voter or Trump defender to decide that Putin or Trump cannot be believed about anything.

Slovakia lawmakers approve defense military treaty with US

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) — Slovakia’s parliament on Wednesday approved a defense military treaty with the United States.

The treaty allows the U.S. military to use two Slovak air force bases — Malacky-Kuchyna and Sliac — for 10 years while Slovakia — a NATO member — will receive $100 million from the U.S. to modernize them.

The deal was signed by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Slovakia’s defense minister, Jaroslav Nad, on Feb. 3 in Washington. It still needs to be ratified by President Zuzana Caputova, who supports it.

The vote took place amid fears that Russia will invade Ukraine. Moscow has massed more than 100,000 troops near Ukraine’s borders, but insists it has no plans to attack. Slovakia borders Ukraine.

Griffin explained that Putin’s occupations of Crimea and the Donbas regions of Ukraine have likely alienated any everyday Ukrainians who might be inclined to remain neutral:

They are not neutral anymore. And they are anti-Moscow, anti-Russia, and maybe what they lack in terms of weapons, they don’t lack in terms of a will to fight. And it doesn’t take much to slit the throat of a Russia soldier. And that is what you’re going to see. You’re going to see a brutal conflict ensue. Those are the intelligence estimates that we’ve been hearing about from the U.S. officials, and this is not a cakewalk. And Putin may have a stronger military, may be able to dominate Ukraine in the first two weeks, but it’s occupying a country like Ukraine – that is where empires get drained.

Thank Putin for goals leading his nation where despair and dread spreads to all visual artists.

The Square by Tatyana Tolstaya, June 12, 2015

Desacralize: to divest of sacred qualities or status.

Dehumanization and “desacralization” are one and the same.

“Desacralization” was the slogan of the twentieth century; it’s the slogan of ignoramuses, of mediocrity and incompetence. It’s a free pass doled out by one dimwit to another bonehead while trying to convince the third nincompoop that everything should be meaningless and base (allegedly democratic, allegedly accessible), and that everyone has the right to judge everyone else; that authority can’t exist in principle, that a hierarchy of values is obscene (since everyone’s equal), and that art’s worth is determined solely by cost and demand. Novelties and fashionable scandals are surprisingly not that novel and not that scandalous: fans of the Square keep presenting various bodily fluids and objects created from them as evidence of art’s accomplishments. It’s as if Adam and Eve—one suffering from amnesia, the other from Alzheimer’s—were attempting to convince each other and their children that they are clay, only clay, and nothing but clay.

I’m considered an “expert” in contemporary art by an arts fund in Russia that’s subsidized by foreign money. They bring us art projects and we decide if said projects should get funding or not. There are actual experts working alongside me on this panel, true connoisseurs—old art, “pre-Square.” All of us can’t stand “The Black Square” and the “self-assertion of that entity called ‘the abomination of desolation.’ ” Yet they keep submitting projects that consist of “the abomination of desolation,” solely of the abomination, and nothing else. We are obligated to spend the money that has been allocated to the fund or else it will be closed. We try our best to fund those who come up with the least pointless and annoying ideas. One year, we funded an artist who placed empty picture frames along a riverbank, and another artist who wrote “ME” in big letters that cast a beautiful shadow, as well as a group of creators who organized a campaign to clean up dog feces in St. Petersburg’s parks. Another year, it was a woman who affixed stamps to rocks and mailed them to various cities in Russia, as well as a group that made a pool of blood in a submarine, which visitors had to step over while listening to the letters of Abelard and Heloise via headphones. After our meetings, us members of the panel step out for a silent smoke, where we try to avoid making eye contact with one another. We then silently shake hands and hurriedly walk home.

Russian media are now claiming there are lots of US troops in Ukraine. Such a claim, not even backed up by some fake video, would clearly serve as an excuse for an invasion.

Besides these reports about Russian media claiming US troops in Ukraine, there are also lots of reports that Putin’s own position in Moscow is not secure, that many around him want him out. It even may be that this possible invasion is partly going on to distract from that and to keep people in line. But a failed invasion could trigger his overthrow.

It is reasonable of President Biden to be urging US citizens to leave Ukraine at this time, and maybe reason will prevail in the head of V.V. Putin, which is what matters.

Yeah. Like I said a week ago, hopefully Putin realizes that pudding head Joe* won't have any power soon and that traitor to our country does not speak for the American People.

Let's worry about our own border, and the fact that traitor Biden* and his traitor head of HS is flying illegal alien men all over our own country under the cover of night.

As Vladimir Putin steps up his military pressure on the Ukrainian border, there are signs that some members of Russia’s officer corps oppose his actions.

The most eyebrow-raising of these dissents is an open letter by retired Col. Gen. Leonid Ivashov posted on the website of the All-Russian Officers’ Assembly, which he chairs. In it, he rejects Putin’s claim that NATO poses a threat to Russia’s vital interests, warns that invading Ukraine “will forever make Russians and Ukrainians mortal enemies,” and calls on Putin to step down.

He concludes, “We, Russia’s officers, demand that the President of the Russian Federation reject the criminal policy of provoking a war in which Russia would find itself alone against the united forces of the West.”

Unlike most criticisms of Putin, even from less venerated sources, Ivashov’s appeal—which was posted on Jan. 31—hasn’t been taken down. Nor has anyone issued a rebuttal. Nor has any member of Ivashov’s organization dissociated himself from the denunciation.

Ivashov’s public appeal is significant, in that it speaks to the frustration and concern felt within a fraction of the Russian political scene that tends to remain behind the scenes, yet which has perhaps more traction than any other within the security forces, which are also the ultimate guarantors of Putin’s authority.

Another example of internal dissent—less dramatic, but in some ways more intriguing and possibly more significant—is an article by retired Col. Mikhail Khodarenok. As the former head of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff and the editor of an influential military journal, Khodarenok has strong ties with active-duty senior officers.

In last week’s issue of the widely read Independent Military Review, Khodarenok derides the notion, held by many senior political officials in Moscow, that Russia could conquer Ukraine in short order. This view, he writes, reflects “complete ignorance of the military-political situation and the mood of the broad masses” in Ukraine. It ignores the fact—of which he says there should be “no doubt”—that Western nations would send Ukraine massive quantities of arms similar to the U.S. Lend-Lease Act that helped the Allied armies in World War II. He reminds readers that Josef Stalin’s soldiers “fought the nationalist underground in Western Ukraine for more than 10 years”—and that the resistance fighters in today’s Ukraine would be fiercer still. “Finally,” Khodarenok concludes, “the most important thing: An armed conflict with Ukraine is currently fundamentally not in Russia’s national interest.”

If an invasion of Ukraine bogs down as troops are sent home in body bags, the grounds will have already been laid for serious, perhaps fatal opposition not only to Putin’s war, but possibly to his rule.

Is be willing to bet that these articles are misquoted to the point of fabrication, because they ignore the facts that

1) The entire Ruusian political and serving military establishment has stood shoulder to shoulder saying that they had NO INTENTION of invading Ukraine absent hostile action from Ukraine or the west. They don't want Ukraine, it's a dumpster fire and a headache that Russia doesn't want or need. If Russia were to do anything, they would probably do what they did in Georgia: destroy it's military capability and withdraw.

2) Russia is not "alone". IF war were to break out in Ukraine, China would be all-tio happy to turn the situation into a two-front war, and America's other enemies (Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, possibly even Venezuela) would probably find it a propitious time to pile on, creating a multi-front conflict that would pull American resources in a half-dozen different directions.

So it's all bullshit.

The "invasion" of Ukraine was supposed to happen yesterday.

Maybe today? Tomorrow?

I'm waiting for USA/UK operatives to launch their provocation/ false flag. Bc the only way you can predict when a war will start is if you intend to launch it yourself

Since the Ukraine military probably doesn't want to commit suicide, if it happens it will probably not be a mass attack (shelling of the Donbas for example) but a high-imoact small operation. Possibly shooting down a Russian jetliner in Russian airspace from Ukrainian space (provocation). Or the west's favorite ploy: a chemical weapons attack on western Ukraine, claiming the Russians did it (false flag).

Or hopefully nothing will happen. Biden* will claim victory!

Meanwhile, the Russian exercises are due to wind down on the 20th. The troops will be sent back to their home bases (far east).

From a German blogger

Quote:

The Big White House Plans Behind Its 'Russian Invasion' Scam

As the 'Russian invasion' scam reaches new heights it is time to look at the motives behind it.

The noise has become deafening.

US warns war could be ‘imminent’ in Ukraine - Politico, Feb 11, 2022

> The U.S. intelligence briefing included specific reference to next Wednesday, February 16, as a start date for the ground invasion, three officials — based in Washington, London and Ukraine — told POLITICO. <

Russian invasion could begin at any time, White House says - Reuters, Feb 14, 2022

'Could' is doing a lot of work in those headlines.

Can we get it a bit more precise?

DAWN RAID Russia set to invade Ukraine at 1AM tomorrow with massive missile blitz and 200,000 troops, US intelligence claims - The Sun, Feb 15, 2022
Russia will order invasion of Ukraine at 3am tomorrow, sources say - Coventry Telegraph, Feb 15, 2022

1am or 3am?

Which is it?

And in what timezone?

And 200,000 troops? Yesterday there were only 100,000. How can those have doubled over night?

There is also the question of why.

Why has the Biden administration created an artificial 'crisis' about a Russian invasion of Ukraine when such an invasion is neither planned nor likely to happen? Why is it claiming that a Russian invasion of the Ukraine is 'imminent' when Russia as well as the Ukraine deny that any will be coming.

Why does it distribute misleading satellite pictures of allegedly deployed tanks when those are directly next to the barracks where they belong? Why does it hype a 'Russian buildup' when that is something that is claimed each and every year?

Jack Matlock, the last U.S. ambassador to the USSR, has one answer:

Maybe I am wrong – tragically wrong – but I cannot dismiss the suspicion that we are witnessing an elaborate charade, grossly magnified by prominent elements of the American media, to serve a domestic political end. Facing rising inflation, the ravages of Omicron, blame (for the most part unfair) for the withdrawal from Afghanistan, plus the failure to get the full support of his own party for the Build Back Better legislation, the Biden administration is staggering under sagging approval ratings just as it gears up for this year’s congressional elections.

Since clear "victories" on the domestic woes seem increasingly unlikely, why not fabricate one by posing as if he prevented the invasion of Ukraine by "standing up to Vladimir Putin"?

Actually, it seems most likely that President Putin’s goals are what he says they are – and as he has been saying since his speech in Munich in 2007. To simplify and paraphrase, I would sum them up as: "Treat us with at least a modicum of respect. We do not threaten you or your allies, why do you refuse us the security you insist for yourself?"

Alastair Crooke points to a different motive:

The authoritative Global Times in an editorial warns that the U.S. is instigating conflict in Ukraine in order to tighten bloc discipline – to corral European States back into the U.S.-led fold. No doubt, China makes the connection that Ukraine provides the perfect pivot for shepherding Europe towards America’s next stage of requiring a united front with the U.S. for the later task of barricading-in China, behind her borders.

In play, therefore, are key decisions that will define Europe for the future. On the one hand, (as Pepe Escobar noted some two years ago), “the goal of Russian and Chinese policy is to recruit Germany into a triple alliance locking together the Eurasian land mass à la Mackinder into the greatest geopolitical alliance in history – switching world power in favour of these three great powers, and against Anglo-Saxon sea power”.

And on the other hand, NATO was conceived, from the outset, as a means of Anglo-American control over Europe and more precisely for keeping Germany ‘down’, and Russia ‘out’ (in that old a

The same thing would happen to these truckers if they decided to drive without a Canadian drivers license and protested licensing by blocking bridges. Not to correct you, but this about truck drivers blocking bridges because of a mandate that they have to get vaxed if the truck crosses the border into the USA. The truckers don't have to starve to death if they drive exclusively within Canada, which is a big country with lots roads for truckers to make a living upon.

Thousands of civilians including hundreds of chilren HAVE been killed in the Donbas, originally because of Kiev shelling civilian areas but also bc of landmines and unexploded ordnance. Kiev has destroyed many homes and much infrastructure, and their original intent was to ethnically cleanse the Donbas (drive as many as possible into Rssia) so they could take over the region. Also, once ANYONE has been shelled or blown up, there really isn't much to bury.

Putin’s claim that dialogue has been “ignored” is false. These distortions are aimed at convincing Russian domestic audiences, and less well-informed people in other countries, that Ukraine is to blame for the current impasse.

Putin's claim simply does not comport with reality.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov compared Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba to Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Germany’s propaganda minister during WWII.

You're a Leftist coward piece of shit that wants Government to have 100% control over every one of us.

What you are saying is as false as Putin's propaganda outlet saying thousands of children had “their arms and legs torn off” by the evil government of Ukraine. Putin wants a false justification for war and 6ix wants a false justification for whatever he has planned.

Second likes to pretend that he gives a shit about the working class.

Then when the working class actually starts something that is successfully making changes, Second calls them Nazis.

Second is a piece of shit with no moral compass.

In my opinion, the people who would vote for Trump a third time are no different than the 36.5 percent of adults who are obese. They are a fat burden on America. My advice: Loss the weight and don't vote for that fat lying sack of shit, Trump. By the way, 6ix, I don't hire the obese. And if they get fat and useless, they're fired.

49 States Legally Allow Employers to Discriminate Based on Weight (Trump is too fat to be President)

Employers can legally discriminate based on political beliefs. (Trump is too Republican to be President)
