Well, the dry didn't last long as I had to take my umbrella with me. The sun is out now after 4pm. Crazy weather we got going on up here. Drivers still being warned about snow in the passes around BC.

Finally rodded out my shower drain tonight. The idea of taking one more shower while standing in my own dirt wasn't appealing on a hot day like today. Got my A/C going today too after mowing the lawn, then went out and helped my buddy's dad again today.

Check engine light came back on, on my way home. As bad as that sounds, it was probably the 2nd best outcome tonight short of being able to pass. That thing hasn't come back on since I cleared the code back in summer of last year. Now I have something to show my mechanic. Maybe I just need the 2nd O2 sensor replaced. He did say that both of them were factory original and I was way past the due-date for new ones.

I didn't think of it as a "man's" show or "woman's". It's hard to put into words. I found the first season more interesting then in the second to me the writing seemed to take a dip. I felt like bringing the before unseen Mr. Hearst in wasn't really necessary. They should have left him as a shadow figure. Or maybe he should could have stayed in the territory but not in Deadwood. He was used too much.

Also I felt like there should have been a bigger army presence in the camp as it was the 1870s and they were sitting smack in the middle of the Black Hills. More worry from the camp about the Indians even though the push to reservation was well under way.

2nd and 3rd seasons just felt off to me.

Did you know that central CA irrigates so much agricultural land that it actually increases rainfall in Colorado?

The weather here has been what I call roller- coaster: a few days over 85, then back to more seasonal temps. But dry, of course. Our rainy season is over.

My last radiation treatment is tomorrow, woo hoo! Damn but they take a big chunk out of every day! A big chunk of energy, too. Looking forward to finally getting some time and energy back, altho I will still be getting infusions and followup with physical therapy to manage lymphedema (I was hoping to avoid it but, alas, no) and followup on my kidneys.

Still, except for tiredness after each treatment I feel pretty good. I have a long list of projects I'd like to start on next week (weather cooperating). Looking forward to that!

Ah, 85F. We will be lucky at the rate we are going in BC to see that come June. Right now the weather service is worried about all the snow that hasn't melted in the mountains which will mean Spring floods for a lot of places down from them.

Hooray! for the last treatment.

I remember my aunt complaining of the radiation making her tired too.

I hope you can make a start on them.

So you've watched the whole show now then? I think there was just the 3 seasons.

I really liked Swerengen's turn in the 3rd season. The writing and acting put into that character and the way that they made me actually really like the guy by the end of the show has always stuck with me. If you've watched all the episodes, you know the one I'm talking about when I was talking about the most extreme thing I'd ever seen on a show, although being a lady you might not quite be able to empathize with it on the same level as me.

If/When you watch the movie, I'd love to hear your opinion on it.

I was not pleased with my mechanics reply on the phone. "Huh? Maybe you do have a bad Catalytic Converter?"

No thanks. Not interested in throwing up to $1000 more in parts only to fail anyhow. I'm working on some more alternative things that could be the culprit now and taking some rather extreme measures with it right now.

I'll report back on that if there's any good news.

Maybe I'll just blow up the car in a field one day and take a great video of it, letting everyone know how my perfectly functional car was nothing more than a 2.5 Ton paperweight because of ridiculous emissions laws and how I've been forced to waste $200 and two tanks of gas driving it around to try to clear codes when that was more I spent on gas so far just to do that than I spent on gas in the entire year of 2021.

I think that could go viral.

Call from my new doc's office this morning. My thyroid test came out normal, which means it is still stable.

Got rained on a bit when I was out on my walk but all is done for today.

I PASSED!!!!!!

I reset all the codes first thing this morning and didn't expect that EVAP monitor to clear for days but it did almost right away (which was super strange since I was running on fumes and the drive cycle says to have it at 1/4 to 3/4 of a tank of gas to get it to run).

O2 sensor monitory took a LOOOOOONG time though and I was worried I'd ruined it.

Took a break after filling up and getting all the monitors to clear except for the O2 and CAT monitors, then decided to work on something I had control over and mowed my lawn in the 90 degree sun.

After that, I went out for another drive but was feeling kind of defeated so I was going to call it a day. A mile from my house the CAT monitor still hadn't cleared. When I got inside my garage and put the car in park it was finally clear!!!!

Went right up to the emissions and got my car certified for the next two years.

So what was the trick this time?

I put 300 miles on my car at speeds between 70 and 95 miles per hour over the last two days with 2 gallons of lacquer thinner in a full tank of gas and ran her down to fumes before filling up this morning and doing my drive cycles.

As your mechanic, I do NOT recommend that you put lacquer thinner in your gas tank or drive 20 to 30 miles above the posted speed limit.

I'm not saying that he ever really changed or became a good guy, but I loved how their entire world was changing and a much bigger evil was coming into town and he was there to be a large part of the fight.

Your ancestry certainly had a lot more to do with the events of that show, at least on the periphery than mine did. From anything I've ever heard about my family, I don't think any of us were here before WWI.

I guess in regards to to that, it's not as if they sugar coated anything or made most of the people in the show out to be great people. You're right about the Doctor. He was probably the only one who really was genuinely good.

It's been so long since I've seen it, so maybe I'm wrong, but I'm thinking that Timothy Olyphant's character was pretty subdued. I remember so many other characters in that show by name to this day, but I can't even remember what the sheriff's name was. I think that it was almost as if they had him play a bland character among all of these very powerful characters so he could be more of an Avatar for the person who was viewing the show rather than a real fleshed out character like he played in Justified. Maybe that's why I viewed it as more of a "Man's" show than a "Woman's" show?

No there wasn't any sugar coating of things. Whores were called whores and the American west was a rough place and a lot of hard people. The men looking for gold and the settlers had to be tough if they were going to stay in the territories. I think the Doctor was a good man.

Since it's only been a few days since I've seen the movie Timothy Olyphant's character was called Seth Bullock but he did seem to be very subdued. Even though I think he was meant to be a more main character to the show.

I think you are on to something. At times it did seem as if you were seeing things through his eyes.

Like I said I can see about putting a hold on them. I'm fairly certain my main library can get

You know, Brenda. I guess I probably should apologize just for the fact that I didn't think about how close to home the topic of the show would be for you. Your ancestry certainly had a lot more to do with the events of that show, at least on the periphery than mine did. From anything I've ever heard about my family, I don't think any of us were here before WWI.

I guess in regards to to that, it's not as if they sugar coated anything or made most of the people in the show out to be great people. You're right about the Doctor. He was probably the only one who really was genuinely good.

It's been so long since I've seen it, so maybe I'm wrong, but I'm thinking that Timothy Olyphant's character was pretty subdued. I remember so many other characters in that show by name to this day, but I can't even remember what the sheriff's name was. I think that it was almost as if they had him play a bland character among all of these very powerful characters so he could be more of an Avatar for the person who was viewing the show rather than a real fleshed out character like he played in Justified. Maybe that's why I viewed it as more of a "Man's" show than a "Woman's" show?

Do you think I might be onto something there?

It is a shame that you couldn't see those early episodes of Season 3 though. I don't remember what you missed, but Deadwood certainly isn't the type of show where missing episodes is a good idea.

I think the choice not to have much of an Indian presence was probably intentional, although I could never say how historically accurate it would have been. It was not a government sanctioned encampment and was made up almost entirely of Outlaws, and I'd imagine that even though the few characters they put the extreme focus on were obviously all criminals and probably didn't lose any sleep at all over murdering anyone who got in their way, I'm sure the camp was filled with dozens or even hundreds of people who were just as bad as they were. I just don't know how interested the native people would be to go anywhere near the encampment unless they had a

I put 300 miles on my car at speeds between 70 and 95 miles per hour over the last two days with 2 gallons of lacquer thinner in a full tank of gas and ran her down to fumes before filling up this morning and doing my drive cycles.

As your mechanic, I do NOT recommend that you put lacquer thinner in your gas tank or drive 20 to 30 miles above the posted speed limit.

You must have had some stubborn deposits in there somewhere that only a good solvent could clear. (That, or someone maliciously put sugar/motoroil/gunk in your gas tank.) Between the solvent and running it at hot temps, it sounds like you dissolved off and burned off whatever was fouling your system.

Great that you're legal again!

BOLO for the failure of rubber or plastic-type gaskets or fuel lines (carburetor seal, valve cover gasket, head gasket, etc) Old car/old components + aggressive solvent = component failure? Just a thought, prolly will not happen.

I see that the brand I used has acetone. I see no mention of Toluene in the product explanation. I did see it stated that this product is not for sale in California.

Nobody put anything in there. You'd have to pry off and break the gas lid to get inside if the car was unlocked, and I never leave the car unlocked if it's not in my garage.

No... I'm afraid this was years of neglect and abuse on my part. As little as I did drive, I still put quite a few miles on that car when the old flex pipe was completely rusted out and was bellowing exhaust right under where I was sitting. I was driving to and from work even in the winter with the windows open just because I knew it was probably getting into the cabin from underneath.

I've always used the cheapest gas. I probably let the spark plugs go years longer than they should have gone without changing them that first time. I've never taken it to a shop for a tune up in the 14 years that I've owned it.

When I was leaking 1.5 quarts of oil on my 36 mile round trip to work, I was dumping off-brand 10w-40 by the caseload through it after hearing online that it was safe to put in old cars that require 10w-30 (and we all know how everything you ever read on the internet is true, right?)

I mean, honestly.... as much as I resent the Government for doing the emissions which disproportionately screw over the people who can't just afford to go out and buy a new car every 2 or 3 years, the amount of work that it's forced me to do on my car and all of the expensive cleaners I've put through the system that I never would have done on my own otherwise really have the car running a lot nicer than it has in years. Possibly even better than when I first got it back in 2008.

Now I won't be going out and putting premium in there every time I fill up... especially not now. But I think I will put 1 bottle of injector cleaner and one bottle of sea foam through it every 6 months from now on, and maybe once per year I'll use the Sea Foam spray right into the throttle body.

I did manage to get 25 quarts of Shell 10w30 oil at an EXTREMELY low price when it was on sale a month or so back, so I'll be able to change my oil quite a few times with much better oil than I'd been putting into it for the majority of my time owning it too.

I think I might also treat myself to a new interior and exterior door handle since I've had to really rig my car up stupidly to even get in and out of it for years after 80% of both of the handles snapped off.

Maybe I'll even get really crazy and see if a bottle of Freon/sealant might actually make my A/C that never worked operational again.

That was the idea, from the video that I watched. I'd seen that video two years ago when I was facing the same problem, but fortunately didn't need to resort to this at the time since simply having the mechanic weld the new flex pipe on after I cut the old one off and running some cleaning products through the system was enough to get the light off for about 1.5 years.

Pulled all the weeds that got out of control during the cold/rainy weather, while I was sick and while I was spending all the time on the car.

Didn't have enough time to drop the bug poison with the spreader, but I at least got the perimeter of the house and garage sprayed. Busy week coming up, so that will buy me some time until I can get the proper poison down.

TONS of ants this year, it seems. Not in my house, but on the perimeter. At least it appears that the mole didn't come back though. I won't be sure until I do some real poking around the foundation, but nothing glaring on the surface anyhow.

Shame on me for not getting around to all of this until now. I've got to have all the poison dropped by mid April or I'm really playing catch up.

Same here! But... when were you sick? Seems like you've been out and about helping lots of people, not really slowing down all that much!

Today was still a little warmish so I spent a few hours getting all the film recycling ready, sorting mail, disposing/recycling boxes/packages. That's dear daughter's job but she's been slipping on that. The house looks a lot tidier now, that's a plus.

Tomorrow and for the rest of the week I'm going to weed-whack the front yard. I won't get veggies in until June. That's the latest I've ever planted, but ... it is what it is. I can't make it go faster or turn back the clock! Just move forward and see how it turns out.

Well, it looks like May is shaping up to be as soggy as April was. Yesterday was 9th wettest Sunday on record for my corner of BC. Fruit crops in the valley are 3 weeks behind because of all the wet. They should be to market by now.

I got pretty sick a few weeks ago. It was like a flu, but I only had a fever one night instead of about 3 days. Knocked me on my ass for 3 days anyhow though, and still wasn't feeling good for about a full week. I think I brought it up maybe one time in here after I was feeling better.

Yes, it is. Have to see what or if any damage was done from the storm that should have happened last night. I know Vancouver Island was going to get hit with it. My area from what I can see is okay. Have to see what the news says tonight.

We've still got snow up in the mountains and that is the big worry with June coming. If it warms up quickly there could be heavy flooding in certain areas with all the melting.

As I said it is just wait and see what mother nature does.

I'd hate to jinx myself, but we've been fairly lucky with the rainfall so far this year.

Even though there were 40 days there where we only saw the sun one day, and it did rain quite a bit so far this spring, we haven't had any monster 12" storms like we had 2 and 3 years ago, and only one where it was over 3" in a day.

But we have gotten enough where my lawn doesn't look awful like it did last year after getting less than average, and it's been spread out enough where there hasn't been any problems caused by it, at least so far.

What I'd really like though?

How about a day or two where the sun is out and it's not 80 or 90 degrees, please?

It rained all day today and it will dip back into the low 50's for the second night in a row, but the next two days are bright and sunny with highs in the high 80s.

Me personally, I'd like to fantasize that I would thrive in a place like Deadwood in a time long forgotten, but now that I'm in my 40's and getting older I don't think I'd be too keen on living in a lawless society anymore. That's the type of thing for true cut-throats who were hardened from decades of a tough life, or 20 somethings who are just starting that hard knock life. If the world as we know it falls apart and I were forced to live in a place like that I think I'd be able to adapt quickly and survive for at least a while until I got too tired and old to always be watching my back, but I'd never voluntarily do it anymore. Too many years of plentiful food and digital entertainment have made me too soft.

Yeah, there was an attempt at some historical accuracy.

You could see that from Swearegen's attitude when the officials from Yankton started coming to town and making noises about "civilizing" the camp. His whores would of but I bet behind his back they were glad for Bullock just incase.

Not sure how I would have faired that far back in time with my medical issues. Would definitely needed a doc more then.

Phone appointment went okay with new doc. Confirmed new prescription for meds and sent that through fax to pharmacy. Also found out I can go in a little earlier for my next thyroid check to synch up the renewal of my seizure meds to my thyroid.

Good haul at the thrift shop today. I actually thought I messed up and didn't go on the sale price day because usually it's a madhouse in there. Maybe nobody wanted to go out in the cold rain when it was so beautiful yesterday?

The jeans rack was pretty sparse, but I did manage to get a nice pair of Levis. They're a little long, but that's fine. Got that, 5 T-shirts and 2 belts for $20.

Out to the dentist after I finish my breakfast but I don't think I am wearing a jacket today. Might get a little too warm. Computer shows that we are sitting at 13C which is 56F and the weather news last night was saying my area should hit around 17C for today. And that would be the first time we have seen temps into the middle 60Fs.

ETA: The river watches have already started as the snowpack is quite heavy and not much has melted so far. Fingers crossed that when it does melt there isn't any major flooding up in the Interior.

Back from the dentist and it was warm enough out today so that I didn't have to wear a jacket.

On the dental front, root canal finished but still needs a filling on top of what was done, so I am back there on Tuesday. They are also going to do a filling that I thought they were doing today as well. Oh well.

Freezing starting to come out of the right side of my nose now. This guy who does the root canals sure knows how to handle freezing.

I haven't had any problems with the temporary thing they put in first. Now, I just wait and see what happens with the almost finish.

But I had a friend have one done and she had problems with it. Maybe it's different if you are younger. She was in her late 30s or early 40s when she got hers done.

The other thing I remember is that she packed the roots with something that looked like short toothpicks but were saturated with some sort of antibiotic. (I asked what they were. They had a very strong taste.) The dentist on put a temporary crown, then a permanent crown, not a filling. Have had no problems with it since. I don't even remember which tooth it was now. I hope your experience is as smooth as mine was.

Yup, eggs are a no go. I did find that I had a package of ramenesque noodles in the cupboard and ate them for supper. I don't eat them much but it was a good thing I had them on hand.

The dentist had no problem getting the root out and yes, they had to put in some antibiotic stuff the first time I went in. This time as I said another temporary filling then a permanent one on Tuesday. This is a right canine tooth and I haven't had any problems so far. So I should be okay.

Still a little colder than I prefer when working outside, but the forecast went up to 61 for the high today. 1% chance of rain, so it looks like mowing the lawn shouldn't be a problem.

They have to remove the root and since there was an infection, they had to put in some antibiotics. Hence the temporary covering.

For me yes. I had no pain. Just a weird feeling as the freezing came out. But that's usually my reaction to freezing.

So, what did you do? And how was the weather? And what does the yard look like now??

I managed to squeeze in an hour here and there of weeding the front yard. I think I have about 12 hours to go.

I'm afraid there's no way my car could make that trip, and if the Giant Flying Spaghetti Monster wanted me to fly I'd be able to afford a jetpack.

The weather was perfect for it. High 50's/Low 60's all day with a decent amount of sun. Just the right temp for doing a lot of work.

Mowed the lawn first... Always a big job.

And I nearly snapped my ankle off trying to navigate the landmine field that is the extra 2ft of back yard that I have now that the people flipping the house behind me put up an awesome new fence and brought it back into their yard where it should be.

I don't know if they were ever going to get around to busting out the concrete from the old post holes, and after risking my lawnmower and having a hell of a time mowing around all of that 4 times already, today was the day to fix it. I probably swung that 20lb sledgehammer 60 to 80 times. Used up two 5 gallon buckets of clay/stone that I'd saved when scooping out the sump well last year and the rest of the loose dirt I had on hand to fill everything so it's all safe to cut and I won't break my leg.

After that I cleaned all the helicopters from all the gutters on the house and garage.

Then I used the leaf blower to clean up the front and back porch, the driveway and the curbs with my sewer. I also cleared out the curb by the ditch along with that sewer as well as my new neighbor's curb/sewer. They're new here and probably don't have any clue the mess they just walked into.

It was a productive day. I'm wrecked.

I just spent 6-8 hours or so doing that last weekend. Not my most favorite thing to do, but not my least favorite either.
