Been a long weekend around me.

Yeah, weather people say we might even get some rain. Have to see about that. It is only 25C right now which is around 80F. Which is cooler as we hit the 90s on the weekend.

I did make chicken Tikka Masala tho, a new recipe for dinner. I'm always looking for new ways to disguise chicken bc hubby "hates chicken".

Back from my walk and all is done. Got a message from the lady that I work for and she doesn't know if I am working or if I'm not. It is still wait and see. But at least I don't have to call her.

Well I finally cleaned everything up today. My old man came by to visit and I got it all nice and clean before he got here without a minute to spare.
It's going to be HOT here until Monday though. Might be getting a lot more naps in the next 4 days.
Going to have to mow the lawn AGAIN though. So weird that it's been this hot but the rain keeps coming down. Mowed my lawn twice last week and in about a day or two it's going to need it again!
At least we aren't drowning though.

Ended up with a half inch of rain yesterday through the night. Cooled it off a bit to the mid 80's today but you couldn't tell because of the humidity. Too wet to mow today, but that's fine because I'd rather keep it a weekend thing when possible.
Although that means I'll be mowing in the hot and humid mid-90's, and I know there's no way I'm waking up early enough to do it at a time when I'll miss the heat.
That's fine. No huge rush.

How many people usually play, Brenda?
My only exposure to Mah Jong is from video games and while really old ones only allowed for two players, the more modern ones all seem to have four. I thought it was a four player game.
Or do you do like a tournament style where the winners move on to another game?

I think today there must have been 12 of us playing. We get any where on a Thursday from 9 to 12 playing.
I've played mah jong on the computer for years where I am just playing against the computer. But I did find a computer game that let you play like there are 3 others playing with you.
It depends on which version of mah jong you are playing as to how many are seated at a table.
What I play is between 3 or 4 people to a table. Each person picks a number to see what table you are playing at. Then we stay at the same table for the whole 2 hours of play.
The person with the highest score gets 1st prize, then the second highest gets 2nd prize and 3rd highest score gets 3rd prize. And the lowest of whatever number is picked gets the booby prize.
With four people playing you can end up with 3 people all collecting the same thing. That happened to me today. Ended up with one hand with all pairs at the end of the round. Found that the lady sitting across from me had in her hand what I needed.

That's how it was when I used to host Texas Hold 'em tournaments. It was fun when you were doing good, but bust early and it's a pretty boring night. Usually we could get two tournaments in, but sometimes the last two players would hang in so long that there wasn't a second game.
Once I get my porch put together I'd like to host them again. I'm going to have to figure out something for the early losers to do though. I mean we had the TV on, and even though I wasn't into sports if there was an event it would be on the TV while we played. But I think that was probably more distracting than anything. Before I host games again I think I'll do some online research to see if anybody else has figured out a good side thing to be doing when playing Hold 'em.

I don't think the chances of rain are too high today. I'm going to check first and see about getting my lawn mowed. It can use it.
I might talk to my neighbor about that 2nd sump pump/well solution today. Wouldn't be getting anything done, but if I can get him over here soon we can brainstorm ideas about the best placement for it and what I'd need to buy to get it done. From what he was saying the last time he was here, the well might be going quite a bit further away from where the existing one sits, which would mean a long line of electric would need to be installed from the existing box, which would also require me to change out the old box entirely for a larger one. Not the worst thing in the world though since I could add a double switch to the box so I could turn either of the pumps off manually without needing to pull out the cords. Hell... I've got the material. At this point I might as well bring a new length of pipe to the entrance of the crawl space for those switches and I could control them from inside the living space of the basement without having to duck walk and get dirty.
I've also got pipe, connectors and boxes/plates for that part of the job. I'd just need to buy another coil of copper wire at a very high price. PVC isn't cheap right now either, but since this wouldn't need to connect to the existing pipes at all I wouldn't need to be buying much. I've also already got a resin well and an unopened backup sump pump, so this shouldn't break the bank.
Down the road I'm probably going to be adding a box outside by the breaker box that I could use to shut off power from the main and insert my generator power into my house. My generator is pretty bad ass, but it's not enough to power the whole house. I'd have to turn off some breakers for things like the A/C, but if I did this I would be able to have enough power for the fridge and the pump as well as a few lights and some entertainment when the power goes out.
That's down the road though. Not super expensive, but I've got a lot of other things that are more pressing to do first.

Seems like you had a chance to wind down a bit, which would have been good especially bc of the heat.
Still busy at this end, but still not getting much accomplished. All "family stuff" that was delayed for six months and doctor's appts right now. Once I get thru this chunk I'll be able to return to maintenance, yardwork and repairs. One good thing tho: I did order solid tires for our handtruck. Those are very useful items, every household should have one.
Other useful items:
A stepstool and ladder.
A kit of basic tools: channel locks (large and small), screwdriver set, wrench set (English and metric) and tape measure
A reciprocating saw and oscillating saw
A basic first aid kit
Rehydration drinks
Painter's tape (useful for making cheap temporary labels)
A strong vacuum cleaner with good filtration and a long wand and upholstery brush in addition to carpet/flooring brushes
What items would you recommend, SIX?

It can be. You can play as many hands as you want. But we have a set time limit at the senior's centre. They only have so many rooms, so most activities only go about 2 hours.
Mah jong can be the same. Fun when you are doing but very frustrating when you can't get the tiles you need to go out or get a good hand.
Sounds like a good plan SIX. I hope you can get something worked out.

You would think so what with the wet Spring and early June. But all that luck has run out in BC. There are over 50 fires burning in my province and at least 6 that caused the evacuations.
That to me sounds like a load of work you are setting for yourself. But with help and chipping away at it I don't think it will be too bad.
Hope you can get some of it done before Fall or winter sets in.

Yeah. Having never been to Canada myself, I just imagine the entire country resembling Siberia 365 days of the year. I'm sure that's not reality even on years where fires aren't burning. Hope you get some of the rain we've been getting. Crazy how much we've had despite the heat. But it makes for super humid days with very few days of relief in between. We look to be getting 2 or 3 days that don't hit 80 after this miserable weekend, but I don't expect it to feel any cooler because of the water.

Yeah... I don't think anybody would be down for any time limits on Hold 'Em. Usually when we played once the players were whittled down to only 2 or 3 the rest of the game went pretty quickly. But string a whole lot of bad hands for everybody together and you could have the last two or three sitting there playing for another 2 hours and the night is burnt for everyone else.
Most of the people I'd be hosting were huge fans of a few 4 player games on the Nintendo 64 called 007: Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64. I'm going to have at least a 50 inch TV out there, so maybe that's something that could be done while the game is going on. I dunno though, that might be even more distracting to the poker game than having sports on. And actually, my poker table is pretty huge when it's unfolded. Might not even really be enough room out there to do that without seriously impacting the poker games.

Jack, that is the oldest joke in the book about Canada. I've heard it my whole life. But trust me when I say we do get all four seasons through the year.
It is summer right across Canada. People all over looking for shade or just cover from the storms that have rolled through.
My corner of BC is suppose to be getting some rain by next Tuesday or Wednesday and maybe some cooler temps. Though it is only 84F where I am today.
No the kind of work you are talking about is better on cooler days. You don't need to risk heat stroke.

Might not even really be enough room out there to do that without seriously impacting the poker games.

Apparently I was shorting the avocados of water bc they were dropping leaves unseasonably, so I spent some time rescue- watering today. I had to hose-water bc the irrigation valve is busted, and I would replace it with a ball valve except that it's right behind the beehive in a very narrow space, and the hive would be between me and escape. The bees, they're quite placid, but still... the noise of a saw (cutting pipe) might rile them up and I don't trust them THAT much.
The only way to work on it would bee (get it? BEE?) at night when the bees are asleep (that's when I went to inspect it) but been too busy to commit time and energy to that repair when I have other more immediate things to worry/think about.
And St Vincent de Paul never did come by to pick up the donation items I was hoping to see gone. The solid wheels came in yesterday so we fixed the hand truck to move some of the heavier items, but by then someone had kyped a few boxes altho they were labeled 'St Vincent de Paul". A-holes abound!

Nah, we been lucky up here and nothing like that heat dome last year has happened. Weather people like I said calling for cooler temps by around late Tuesday into Wednesday.
There is some rain up the Interior today but it brings lighting with it. And that is what has been sparking most of the fires. Then the storms gather more steam and roll right on into Alberta.
It is 24C right now and that is 78F.
That is a lousy place to have to do a repair SIG.

There's only one room in this house that could host a legitimate pool table and stick action, and that's the master bedroom, I'm afraid. It would have to be some sort of bumper pool table, or a comically small pool table. It's a big house, but the layout isn't the best. The pool table would work in the back porch too, but that would make the poker or pretty much everything else impossible. My buddy has one in his garage. I don't know how he even got his wife to let him do that. They can't park either vehicle in there now.
Some of my group are extremely serious about pool. I used to shoot with them years ago and still do from time to time now, but they never quit and are on weekly leagues all year long. They're not going to want to play on anything that isn't legit.
I'm cool with beer. I'm sure they will be drinking and smoking weed while they're here. (Outside or in the porch, of course). The temptation for alcohol is gone for me, and the only time I've ever been tempted in my life to smoke some weed after I'd quit was when I was drunk, so that's cool too.
What I need to do is get around to buying a nice big screen TV for the living room. Plenty of seating in there, and I've got tons of retro game stuff hooked up, but there's only like a 40" TV or something. Most of my friends have 70" or higher when I'm over at their place.
I'd also like to build an arcade cabinet, either from scratch or restore an old one if I luck into a decent cab on Craigslist. I've got an awesome sofware setup that can either be installed inside using old XBox or PS consoles or even just a Raspbe

Yeah. My next house is going to have a large, full basement, and it won't be on a floodplain, with plenty of room to make something really neat.
The layout in my current half-basement is the worst layout in the entire house. Really can't do much more than have an extra bedroom and a duplicate but smaller living room down there. I'm not even excited about the idea of finally getting around to remodeling it one day after I know I've got all water issues under control. I can't think of one single way to make anything down there exciting or unique. Until I moved it would just be two more rooms and an extra bathroom that I don't need and have to clean up on occasion.
I always think that if I'd bought the much smaller house sq ft wise that was close by, but with a full basement under it that wasn't counted in the square feet that I would have been a lot happier with it. No floodplain there and it would have only taken 15 minutes to mow the lawn.
Really tiny attached garage and houses pretty much on top of each other there though.

Oh, ideally I would like a three-bedroom, 3 bath house about 2000 sq ft with an open floor plan and a garage where you could put doors on both ends to let the breezes blow thru for hubby's workshop.
But, I only get to pick from what's available, not from my ideal-homes in the sky.
We had actually put a bid on a smaller house in a different part of town with (I think) a better floor plan but apparently the wife was so attached to the house... it was where her children had grown up etc etc ... she just couldn't get with the plan of selling the house and moving to OC, even to be closer to her (adult) children. I'll bet they sold the house in the end, tho. She just wasn't ready at that moment.
Anyway, I managed to finish rescue-watering the avocados and pines and texted the bee guy if he could speed up the process of bee removal since I'm going to be too busy to be hosewatering such a large area for very long. I see we're in for a change in weather: hotter, sunnier, drier, breezier. But I think I put enough water dwon to keep the trees happy for at least a week. I hope!!

Yeah. I had some options. I went with the cheaper one that needed a lot more work but was twice the size and 4 times the land. Probably would have still thought I made the right choice if it weren't for the flood issues.

Man... the process sucks, doesn't it? I'm not looking forward to moving again when the time comes. At least when I bought this house I didn't have a lot of stuff and was able to store it temporarily at other people's houses and come and get it when I was ready for it. Even with the two de-hoards and the eventual third one, I'm going to need a truck next time. And having to time buying one house while I'm selling another isn't going to be fun either. I won't have the luxury of having places to store the stuff that aren't going to cost me money the next time.

Got a game plan on the sump today. I've already got the well, the pump and the pipe, so all I need is some connectors and some other cheap stuff. This will be a major improvement with very little cost.
Not going to start digging the well this late in the day though.
Had a scare with my A/C unit today. It must have stopped working last night sometime. Was stuck with the Filter LED on and all the other buttons were not responsive. Even after cleaning the filter which didn't seem that bad and vacuuming out the whatever I could from the front it still didn't work. Unplugging it and plugging it back in several minutes later would make the compressor work about 1 second before you could tell it was running a series of tests and finding some error codes I couldn't find any info for online.
Unplugged it for around 3 hours and it worked fine when I plugged it back in.
Leaving it off now though. Major change in forecast shows that only 1 day in the next 10 is going to be 80 degrees or higher, and it's going down to 57 degrees tonight!
But damn... I'm going to have to mow again. It's only been 5 days and for the middle of August it looks like I haven't mowed it in two weeks. What a strange summer with so many days in the 90's but so much rain at the same time.

I just don't get it. My grandma still has a piece of junk A/C installed in her bedroom in the early summer that has to be 25 years old and it chugs right along.
I wish they had models of A/C units that you could buy today that didn't have the computer board and just had the manual dials like the old ones did. There's no reason that the computer board should keep it from running. So what if it detects a minor issue? People are more likely to just throw it out and buy a new one instead of taking it in to get fixed some place.
I wish I knew more about electric and electronics and could just mod the thing to bypass the computer altogether.

Yeah. That is something else I'd really like to get into. I watch a few YouTubers that do tear downs of new tech to show the inner workings and sometimes make new things out of them. I'm sure the A/C would need a new circuit board like you said. There's a lot of buttons on there. Not all of them would be needed... Maybe the simpler way would be to figure out how to bypass any codes that would keep the unit from turning on while still using the original board? Maybe it's as simple as adding/changing a wire or two? Maybe adding a simple extra chip in between. It's how somebody figured out a way to bypass the copyright protection on the Sony Playstation back in the late 90's and made a lot of money selling the chips online with instructions on where to solder it. I know the A/C is 20 years newer, but I'm still guessing that the circuit board on it wouldn't be nearly as advanced as a cutting-edge gaming console would have been even 25 years ago.
The Landfill economy sucks for sure, but this isn't a $25 coffee maker. It's a $600 A/C unit that would probably cost me $1,200 next year if it breaks down in the middle of summer next year, assuming I could even find one in the middle of a heat wave.
I think I forgot to mention my old man's reaction to the work when he came by. He's not much of a DIY guy himself, but he does keep a clean garage. He loves my garage and says it's going to be a great selling point now when I sell the house.
But it was those pantry shelves I think might possibly be the one thing I've done that impressed him more than anything else. He did a little step back and one of those "Wo-ho-ho-howwww's" before saying that's like something you'd see in the rich people's houses.
Even though I've got my 2nd sump game plan down, I think I'm going to have to take advantage of the weather right now and start digging my trench around the foundation so I can clean it and get the foundation tar on it. It looks as though we won't have any significant amount of rain until early to mid next week, and it's the coolest week we've had in quite a while.
I really don't want to have that huge pile of river rock stacked up all winter because I never got around to doing this, and there are some steps involved after the tar coat and before the rocks.

Trenched out 1 side of the house, scrubbed it with Dawn and TSP with a rinse in between and then I had to mow the front lawn and do some random yardwork while I was waiting for it to dry.
Didn't finish tarring the foundation on that side before the sun went down, but that's what my cordless lamps are for.
2/5ths of the hasta bed area down.

It's toasty around here- around 90 deg, sunny and dry. Not unseasonable for this time of year, but my water bill will definitely go up.
NEWS FLASH! I see my first official tomato ripening. I have a few volunteer cherry tomatoes here and there but this is my first Early Girl. Looking forward to burgers with lettuce and tomato.
Made a couple of new recipes for pork tenderloin. When it's on sale it's a decent price for lean meat, but it's SOOO lean it's hard to cook properly, like chicken breast. I tried different versions of schnitzel but I have to say, not worth making again. It turned out like it's supposed to but so flavorless I don't see the attraction.
I just tried a pork tenderloin marsala and that wasn't worth making again either. Back to stir-fries until I figure something better.
On the upside, St Vincent de Paul did finally pick up items today. House and driveway look noticeably better.

Today I did a dozen little things, starting with a very early morning watering of the back wall pines and moving the van out of the driveway so St Vincent de Paul could get at the donation items. Then I brought in my office plant (and had to vacuum the mat where I spilled some dirt), watered the veggie garden, bucket-watered a spot where no hoses can reach... the bee guy showed up, said we were bee-free and he removed his bee box and hauled the bees away to his apiary, so I paid him ... vacuumed the kitchen mats, raked up the pine needles before I put the van back... did a bunch of dishes and made chicken and veggie stir-fry... then I sacked out on the love seat bc I was knackered!
Still have a metric crap-ton of little things to do, but yesterday I sorted out the big headache I was having with Medicare denying coverage. It was weighing on my mind terribly, but all is good now, so now I can focus on other stuff and feel free to do what I need to do.
Still have a TERRIBLE case of the itches. Most likely a late side effect of one of my infusions, but I scratched my neck open in my sleep, it's so bad. I've tried triamcinilone Rx and coconut oil and Cerave and sulfur cream and cool showers and even permethrin cream (on the idea it was some sort of garden mite) but the only thing that seems to help is Benadryl gel. I'm telling you, if you've got a bad itch somewhere...mosquito bite, spider bite, sun itch, hives ... try that stuff. It might work for you bc it works for me.
Well, on with a cool shower and slather myself with Benadryl gel and maybe take some oral benadryl and see if I can get better sleep tonight.
Nighty-night.

The other thing we used to use when I was a kid was calamine location. I have no idea what it is and whether you can get it - it was probably made from DDT or something awful.
Still cold and wet here but the days are getting longer and the wattle is fully out. My bulbs are starting to peak their heads above the soil.

Yeah. I'm surprised I don't see that guy more often with all the outside work I do. As he was walking the dog back to his house he said "you'll see me again, I've got to walk the other dog too". And I did.
But it was pretty late though. Maybe about 7:00 PM. Not that I'm an early riser, but if I'm doing yard work it's usually done by 4:00PM even if it's sweltering hot outside.
He was raving about the porch windows. He mentioned that it is the first thing he sees when he turns down the block and he doesn't have to look at how bad it used to be with those crappy louvers anymore. I told him I had one neighbor call me up and thank me for raising the value of everybody's property on the block by $5k.
I wish I could show you the difference, but with hostiles around here like Second who has a diary of everything I've ever written, and Nilbog still coming around with her Magons handle, I'm not going to be posting any pictures of the outside of my house.
I think for me though, the coolest time a neighbor said anything was as I was putting up the siding after the windows were installed and some kid I see zipping by on this weird skateboard thing with a giant wheel in the middle of it yelled out "That looks awesome". It's hard impressing kids.
Off to the store. Ran out of watertite last night before I could finish the job and the instructions say you can't put anything over it for 72 hours. I want to be tarring that wall first thing in Monday morning.

Phenergan here is Rx not OTC, usually used for nausea and allergies. Curiously, another medication - here called Zantac, used for acid stomach - also works for allergies. There's a connection between stomach and histamine which I would know if I were a biochemist. I tried oral benadryl (diphenhydramine) too, but I had to take a whopping dose to get any effect. Triamcinilone layered over benadryl gel seems to work.

Finished all of the repairs and got the crud out of just over half of the gap between the foundation and the front porch slab. That turned out to be a massive job. No huge hurry on that now though since I can't tar the rest of the front until Monday morning when the watertite sets.
Got me a motion sensor LED spotlight for the garage. I'll be installing that next week too if I haven't done it over the weekend. That's the last thing I needed to do on the garage.

Craig (Dr Blake) has been involved in some pretty dodgy stuff, sorry to say. Not sure how his career will be going. If you like crime drama, I can recommend Mystery Road, set at the other end of the country in the Kimberleys - amazing scenery, interesting story line, Aboriginal detective. I enjoyed it.
Ive planted exotic bulbs - not even sure whether Australian natives come with vulbs. Jonquils, bluebells and some tulips. I'm hoping the hungry possums don't eat them all, they've been pretty brutal this winter on the plants.
Everyone hates Melbourne weather - it's not an easy climate. Coldish winters (by Aus standards) but can be like a furnace in Summer. And lots of extremes - big winds, rains, gets very dangerous for bushfires in Summer. Unpredictable. The saying goes - if you don't like the weather, wait an hour.
It's funny how countries vary what you can and can't buy OTC. Im pissed off that codeine is now on prescription. It's the best for a cough. Bloody meth cookers.

Woke up to find there's now a coin flip today that we could get a stray thunder storm that drops a 1/4 of an inch of rain, when there was no rain in the prediciton until Wednesday.
Here's hoping it misses me. In any event, I probably won't be washing the walls and putting any tar up today. Tar needs 24 hours without any rain, and the splash from the mud is going to dirty up the walls anyhow.
I can still get the rest of the crud out of the porch slab, clean it up and get tar on that though. Maybe I'll still find some time to take down the old light and see if I can rig up the new one in between rain showers.
It would be cool to finish up the garage today. Hopefully, my aunt and grandma are coming over tomorrow. It's getting a lot harder for my aunt to get her around though, and she still works full time and work's been hard because of the hot weather.

Jonquils (native to Spain and Portugal), bluebells (originating various parts of the globe depending on variety) and tulips (originally from Turkey) ... exotic to many places of the world but would be very at-home in the USA wherever there is snow on the ground in winter. I love those flowers but the winters here are far too warm. The only bulbs that have naturalized in my garden are paperwhite narcissus and Sternbergia (yellow autumn crocus).

Managed to rescue-water my potted plants, do some veggie-garden weeding, check the (former) beehive and walk the dog before it got too hot.
Didn't see any bees, but the yard - which had dozens of bees foraging on the matcheeed (lippia, turkey tanglefoot) - looks kind of lonely now.
Tomatoes are two days away from being ripe.

Had an AWESOME day today. Finished cleaning out the crap behind the porch slab. All that's left to do is a TSP wash and we're ready to do the whole wall on Monday. I also found the crack in the foundation that I knew would be behind the slab to match the one I patched a few years ago in the back. If I really want to fix these things, I'm going to have to do some injection molding from inside the house, but once I'm done in the front there is no way any rain water is going to get in there. Now I know where 3 of the 4 cracks are. No way I can find the 4th one from outside since the cinder block wall of the porch is right on the other side of it. I'll have to guesstimate where it is from the opposite crack I fixed to find it. Chances are I'll have to take the visqueen down from two walls to get to both cracks anyhow though.
So, knowing that there is a VERY good chance of thundershowers tonight, I wasn't going to wash the walls or put any tar up.
So out to the garage I went to install the new garage security light.
First I had to take the old one down, and though it was bolted in with three heavy duty bolts under the siding, I was able to manage to get it off with my mechanics wrenches without damaging any siding.
I went in the garage and immediately before I opened the security light it dawned on me why it was only $22.88. Even though the store didn't advertise it as a return, it was obviously a return. There's no way a lamp made by GE wasn't going to be shrunk wrapped. I opened the box and everything seemed clean and good though.
But then I took the lamp out...
The bottom panel of the motion sensor where all the setting switches are that houses the computer board was broken off. There were two screws holding it in, but somehow some idiot must have either dropped the thing or tried prying off the bottom for god knows what reason. Then they returned it to the store, and either the store didn't check to see if it was good or they knew it wasn't and didn't mark it as damaged.
But I had an idea. First I took photographs of the damage, then I put the hot and neutral wires into an outlet and verified that the lights still turned on. Then I got out a 4pack of super glue that I got free after rebate and glued it up nice and tight, and got to running my electric to get it installed.
The best part about the whole process was how everything was lined up perfect that I didn't have to drill any new holes or marry some stray 2x4's to the sides of the existing ones to mount the outdoor-safe junction box. Not anything the idiots before me planned for, of course, but every once in a while things just work out better than you could have hoped.
Got the light up there and I'll tell you right now it's so much better than it has any damn right to be for only 23 bucks!
Right now I have it set in "Night" mode at 30% with a sensor distance of 60 feet for 15 seconds. That means that as soon as it senses that it's night time it turns on 30%, but if anything comes within 60 feet of the sensor it turns from 30% to 100% for 15 seconds. I'm not sure if I'll keep it at that setting, but I already verified that it works as I intended and I'm absolutely thrilled.
And it's so BRIGHT!
The electric in the garage is officially done now.
The only thing I intend to do out there still is to seal up any small gaps in the walls and get a better rubber seal for the bottom of the overhead door to keep any mice and insects out.
Right now there is a cricket somewhere inside behind my shelving units and it was driving me nuts while I was working today.

Phenergan here is Rx not OTC, usually used for nausea and allergies. Curiously, another medication - here called Zantac, used for acid stomach - also works for allergies. There's a connection between stomach and histamine which I would know if I were a biochemist. I tried oral benadryl (diphenhydramine) too, but I had to take a whopping dose to get any effect. Triamcinilone layered over benadryl gel seems to work.

Craig (Dr Blake) has been involved in some pretty dodgy stuff, sorry to say. Not sure how his career will be going. If you like crime drama, I can recommend Mystery Road, set at the other end of the country in the Kimberleys - amazing scenery, interesting story line, Aboriginal detective. I enjoyed it.
Ive planted exotic bulbs - not even sure whether Australian natives come with vulbs. Jonquils, bluebells and some tulips. I'm hoping the hungry possums don't eat them all, they've been pretty brutal this winter on the plants.
Everyone hates Melbourne weather - it's not an easy climate. Coldish winters (by Aus standards) but can be like a furnace in Summer. And lots of extremes - big winds, rains, gets very dangerous for bushfires in Summer. Unpredictable. The saying goes - if you don't like the weather, wait an hour.
It's funny how countries vary what you can and can't buy OTC. Im pissed off that codeine is now on prescription. It's the best for a cough. Bloody meth cookers.
I've been watching "Mystery Road". It's an interesting little show. Like the characters.

I can use the extra money. So, I went and dealt with her for about 4 hours. Got attacked by a rose bush. She had me do some pruning on 3 different flowers for the winter or fall. The only plant I could identify was the rose.
Anyways they are off camping again on Monday, hence the call. And they've only been back 2 weeks from the Yukon.

Actually got a bit of rain in my area this morning on my way to work. Walked out of my apartment building and realized that I was getting wet. Had to come back in for my umbrella. Dry now and suppose to warm up again for next week.

That's a bummer. I found it at my local library. That's where I get a lot of British and other shows. My library had series 1-5 of Shetland. They get Dr. Who in to.
I even found a stray Bruce Lee movie the other day. "Fists of Fury."
I got it out and watched it over the weekend. It's going back tomorrow.

Lazy Sunday. Had my Grandma and Aunt over for lunch and a visit. Thought about mowing the back yard after they left but didn't feel like it. There should be plenty of down time in between foundation work this week to get that done.
Hopefully my friend's dad comes around in the next week or two to help me install the new shed door. I want to seal the crack in the slab before he does though, so not in too much of a hurry for that.
If I can' get the front of the house foundation finished, the rocks put down, the shed door installed and the new sump well finished, I'm going to call this a good summer with the huge garage upgrade and all the electric done in the porch as well, even if I don't actually finish remodeling the porch until next spring.

well, we finished the last episode of Dr Blake Mysteries, and I liked the ending. Some series finales tie up everything in bows. Some series finales leave too much unanswered. But I thought the ending of Dr Blake was just about right

One mystery was solved (Who was killing cops in Ballarat?) One character was redeemed if only in death (William Munro). But one well-liked character (Lawson) is permanently maimed after being run down by a criminal who didn't even see him. And Lucien Blake and Jean can only marry after he files for divorce from his first wife by claiming to be a drunk (true) and inflicting emotional abuse (not true), and Jean decides to leave her beloved Catholic church which will ecommunicate her if she marries a divorced man. And Lucien shows up drunk once too often and punches out a civilian while on duty and is fired from his job as police surgeon, all of his cleverness at crime-solving can't save that job, altho he is still a country doctor. At the end of the series, our favorite characters are celebrating Christmas together, many of them with dents and dings, having made mistakes or facing a future difficulties but still able to gather together and enjoy the holidays. The younger characters relatively unscathed, the older ones knocked about by life more, but carrying on.

Back from my walk and ran into one of the support workers who used to come in and help look after my mum. We had a nice chat for a half an hour or so.
Temp is sitting at over 80F.

Entire front of house TSP cleaned, rinsed and tarred. Got the 2nd coat of tar on the side too.
Waiting on drying time now, so I'll probably mow the lawn and spray for weeds tomorrow.
I have more I want to get done, but I don't want to expose any more of the foundation until I backfill what's already done.

Lawn mowed and weeds sprayed. I decided to mow the front again too even though I'd just did it 4 or 5 days ago. Going to relax and get some paperwork done for the rest of the day. Going to start the backfill and my mole solution tomorrow.

Sun has been out the last few days and not overly hot for me. Just right.

It's still blastedly hot and dry here. Not unseasonable but in the mid-90s most of the time. So most of my work has been indoors.
Still, I managed to brush - rinse our chariots today. They are no longer so icky that I don't even want to get near them. I had help and managed to lightly spray us with water while we were working. I also filled washer fluid reservoirs bc at this time of year we'll see a lot more dust and maybe even some ashfall.
