We had ham, bean, and veggie soup again today.
It's kind of a gumbo but without the roux. Celery, green pepper, red pepper, onion, paprika, a little cumin, black pepper, bay leaves, okra, boxed chicken broth, ham and beans. The truck is to cook them in the right order: celery and onions go in first with a little olive oil bc they take the longest to cook. Saute 10 minutes, add crushed tomatoes, broth and peppers, ground black pepper and bay keavrs, and simmer 10 minutes. Then add okra and simmer 15 minutes. Then add ham and precooked beans and simmer 15 minutes.by then celery has cooked about 45 minutes but the game only 15.
The reason not to cook the ham too long is that if you cook it too long it tastes like a used teabag, which is flavorless.
Some meats, like beef chuck, benefit from long cooking bc they have a robust flavor that stands up over time, and plenty of fat and connective tissue that keeps the meat moist and tenderizes as it cooks. Tri tip makes an OK pot roast, if a bit flavorless, but us much MUCH better oven-roasted. Cross rib is somewhere in the middle.
Lean meat, like chicken breast,turkey breast,and pork loin chops, just get dry and cardboard like if you cook them just a smidgen past done. Liver, BTW, gets tough as leather, literally, if overcooked. So I'm finally learning to cook meat.

But unlike you and SIX, I actually like (most) Xmas songs. They bring up so many happy memories. When we were little, mom and dad actually put up the Xmas tree when we were alseep. It was a wonder to sneak out in the early AM with my sisters and find the tree, all decorated with gifts underneath, and turn on the tree lights and try and find which presents were for who and guess what they might be without opening them. To this day I remember us getting a giant greenish flop-eared stuffed dog with a tag on it: "My name is Jupiter. Please love me"
And we did. We used to worry that he couldn't sleep bc his eyes were open all the time, so every night we put him to bed by covering his eyes with his ears.
And then there were the carols, in Polish and English. When we were old enough to stay up, midnight mass. The moon high in the sky, shining thru bare tree limbs and making the snow shine. The little baby Jesus in the manger and the star on top of the tree. The parties. Making cookies with mom. Taking our late evening stroll with dad, Christmas lights glowing thru the snow. It was a kind, magical season, where people cared enough to put up lights and make the neighborhood beautiful for others... not the big ostentatious 50,000 bulb displays that you have to pay someone for, just what people put up by themselves.
That kind of Christmas should be in every child's memories. Not the shopping horror that it is now.

Well, my thing with Christmas goes back to my dad's death and it was never the same after that.
Also one Christmas and I'm not sure how old I was, I heard and saw my dad moving the presents from the hiding spot to under the tree. *L* I did tell my parents this but I sworn to secrecy for my brother's sake.
In my mum's later years she loved Christmas with the music in the stores and at home. She had lots of decorations that I always seemed to get dragged into helping her with. Ah, the curse of being the oldest. She loved looking at light displays when she could get to them.

When was it aired??
I generally DON'T listen to music. I knew people at work, it was their passion. They went to Coachella every year and it was like a competition almost to find the newest most under- appreciated group/singer before anyone else did.
I think the only time I listen is when somebody brings something tomy attention. I heard "some of us" on Bones and "Hallelujah" in Shrek. When I was reviewing data somebody brought me a thumb drive of compiled videogame music, so that started me on PrimeCronus. Or I would hear something that somebody was playing at work that was interesting. One of the posters here (I forget who) put me on to Two Cellos, and that popped up the Pentatonix. And if course there's Favorite Songs that exposes me to music I might not have heard otherwise. I bunny trailed my way to the call to prayer (it's quite beautiful), church bells, and other liturgical music.
But mostly, I don't listen. Lots of music passes me by. I actually listen to geopolitical podcasts when I'm working in the kitchen, it keeps me from getting bored but it's what I call "bubblegum for the mind"- I chew on it while it's there but when it's gone, it's gone.
I should probably find a more productive use fro my ears. Stock picks, or something.

T-Day in Canada was over a month ago now.
Nope, and it could be 2 days this month as she is starting on her Christmas baking. They are having family come in for the holidays. So anything like Monday was banana bread will go into the freezer and then be pulled out in December.
I don't mind too much as I'm not doing much anymore since I am only playing mah jong once a week now, which is tomorrow morning.
Anything I moved to Tuesday from Monday was no big deal. Like I said just a little grocery shopping and returning something to the library.

I posted a LOT of Pentatonix back during my drinking days. I was never into their Christmas stuff, which came after they got YouTube famous, but just because I'm not into Christmas music at all. I still jam out to Pentatonix on my mp3 player.

You should probably consider yourself lucky you never worked in retail. Though I'll admit there's a lot of great songs I've heard over the years that I still listen to today while working jobs that I never would have heard otherwise, there are ten times as many bad songs that I've heard far more than I ever would have otherwise too. Particularly Christmas songs. With McCartney's being number one on my shit list and Barbra Streisand's rendition of Jingle Bells being a VERY close second. In fact, Streisand's song would probably be my pick for the worst song of any genre ever made, but the only reason I hate McCartney's song more is because I don't hear Streisand's horror that often. It's the metaphorical equivalent to DePape hitting Paul in the head with a hammer.

I often think that myself. But I enjoy music. I couldn't even tell you the amount of songs that I know every single lyric to, because ever since I was a little kid I would memorize songs and it's just natural to me today. I never found a way to turn that skill into money, but it did help make me an excellent karaoke performer and got me a ton of free drinks back in the day.

53 degrees, actually... It turns on when the thermostat reads 52 and gets up to about 55/56 before it turns off.
Just got back from my bro's for a few days and had it set to only 50. It was as low as I felt comfortable turning it down to with the pipes and everything, but I could have probably gotten away with 40 degrees if I wanted to. That three degrees REALLY made it cold in here when I got back home.
First time I'd seen the bro since around February, so that was nice. I finally got to install that new keyboard shelf I fabricated for him on is desk that I started building to his specs when he was in for Christmas last year. It's freakin' awesome and far too good for the desk it's now a part of.
I also got the new vinyl window film he wanted cut to size and put up and he's thrilled about that.
Got to meet his new cat finally. The first second it saw me it ran in his room and didn't make a sound for a whole day but by the end of the stay it finally let me pet it a little bit. Maybe the next time I'm over I'll be able to pick it up and pet it on my lap, but you got to wait until the cat's ready and not force it.
By the second night you could tell how different it was behaving with me out there because once it got comfortable enough around me to not be silently hiding under the bed while I was in there it would go by the front door and wail and moan for my brother if he left the apartment and it would hang out right by my brother when we were sitting down and watching TV. Those two are inseparable. I'm glad that my brother got the cat because he seems a lot happier now. Although I don't know if he'll be coming back at Christmas time anymore. He wasn't joking about putting EVERYTHING safely away or being overprotective of his own belongings like I thought he was. That cat will DESTROY anything it can get its paws (and teeth) on. Once it was comfortable enough to come around me I noticed it had gotten into my open duffel bag and it was only there about 5 seconds and it put 6 holes in my leather glasses case, and it also shredded the heels of both of my shoes without me knowing until after the fact. There's not a chance I can catproof my house and let that thing have the freedom to roam for a whole week, let alone 5 minutes when it's capable of that level of destruction.
I was actually impressed a little. I lived with 7 cats in my grandma's house for years, and if you discount the amount of pissing they did over everything, all 7 of them couldn't come close to the level of destruction that little cat is capable of. I'm hoping that he mellows out and stops doing that so my brother can come here on Christmas again, but nobody else in the family wants that cat in their house either.

Still no car here. Not that I care to go out at all in this weather anyhow. I've also got food for a year and toiletries for 5 years, so nowhere in particular I need to be going at the moment anyhow.
Keeping busy working on my old project. It's a nice distraction from the mundane, and certainly a better use of my time than playing video games or watching youtube all day.
Going to have to take advantage of a few days next week where it hits the mid-40's though. I don't want a repeat of last winter where I didn't get any work done on the house until April after the first snow fell.

Oh... I remember Snowvember. At least I had a beast of a snowblower on hand for it. But I do remember telling my grandma that I was worried that if it kept snowing and nothing melted I might not have anywhere to put it. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

You've been sick and you have a few years on me. Don't beat yourself up.
And "winter" by you really isn't winter anyhow, so you've still got time.
I sure ain't better than you. This year saw some amazing progress for sure, but half of the work I've been doing is repairs from damage that I allowed to happen to my property from years of neglect while drinking, and I know full well that my neighbors all probably hated me back in the days when my property was being overrun by nature. This year at least I was able to do more than just play keep-up and I finally made some huge moves toward actually finishing this house.
Making up for lost time now while I'm still young and healthy and can handle it. I'm not super worried about the clock yet, but I've got to get this property ready to sell the next time the market is good. There's no way I'm going to die in this house. I want a small house with a flat roof that is on high land. The exact opposite of what I've got right now.

Thank you. That is the era of Beatles I was trying to come up with when I listened to "Mr. Blue Sky". It sounds like the Beatles, Sgt. Pepper era.
I love "Strawberry Fields" and that was from around Dr. Pepper. I think it was even on the Dr. Pepper album. My brother had that record and I can't remember now but I'm pretty sure I'm right. I don't care for "The Walrus."
I have one word to say about "Mr. Blue Sky" being the happiest song. ICK!
I know some of their top 10 list. Not sure I've heard "Don't stop me now" by Queen. I'll have to look that one up.

Back from my walk and I would have had lunch at that little hot dog/hamburger place I like which is near the dentist and the pharmacy I use. But it was just too wet. It was even too wet to wait outside for the bus. I had to stay indoors of the mall till the bus came.
The rain is tapering off now and it is suppose to be dry tomorrow. So we shall see.

Still no car, but I did talk to the mechanic yesterday. He's waiting on the part and he's going to fix it. Looks like he won't need to drop the fuel tank since he'll be using nylon tubing to replace the rusted out line, so if nothing changes it's going to be fixed for under a $100 when he's done.
I can live with that.
Don't know if I'll be getting it before Thanksgiving though.

Well, today I managed to irrigate/ water the front and back yards. It's been pretty dry since the last rain. Fortunately it's been relatively cool (compared to summer anyway, altho T-day is supposed to be in the low 80s) so I shouldn't need to do that for another three weeks or so.

After reliably cooking nutritious meals for the family every gorram day, today is the day I give thanks for not having to cook. We do takeout T-day meal.
I've slogged my way thru my treatment and hubby's recovery and other misc appts and summer and miscellaneous issues. Watered the property and sprayed for weeds a couple of times, and after today get a chance to get to some nitty gritty yardwork.
I can still only do an hour at a time and not every day, but something is better than nothing. Plus I've been in touch with a guy for some help with the heavier-duty stuff. I hope he's reliable and schedules me in after today.

I had my first proper Thanksgiving Day meal in close to two decades today.
When my bud came and picked me up yesterday for movie night, he heard me finishing a call with my Aunt where we'd all but decided that they'll come over on Saturday instead of today because all the restaurants around me were closed for the holiday. When he was dropping me off last night he offered come swoop me again today for the dinner I was smelling his wife cooking the whole time I was there last night.
It was a small get together, which I prefer and might not have even gone to if it was some huge party, and I got to meet some of his wife's family. I even got a bunch of hugs when I left.
They're good people. He was kind of an asshole back in the day, but I was too. It was really cool that we rekindled our friendship back when my other bud invited me to his big 40th Bday bash. Honestly never thought we'd be friends again, but now he's closer to me than a good deal of my family is.
I'll be helping him move in a slate pool table in a couple of weeks. He's going to sacrifice his awesome movie man cave for the pool table. So I offered to come over next week and help him move his furniture upstairs. He said he didn't know where he'd put it and then asked me if I wanted it.
Sure thing man. A leather couch and single seat that recline and don't have any burn marks or pet damage? I might even put that in my living room and put my futon and 70's recliner out in the porch.
He's even got a REALLY nice faux fireplace/TV stand down there that he thinks he's probably not going to want after the change up too. I didn't even realize that because he never turns it on, but when I mentioned to him yesterday that I wanted to get one of those for the porch he said "oh, like the one I've got?"
It's beautiful, actually. And no doubt it cost a lot more than the one's I've been eyeing. I'm not going to keep my hopes up on getting that, and I doubt I'd be getting it for free if I do, but he'll probably find some work he needs done in trade if he does decide to get rid of it. He's already talking about having me come over and do stuff around the place since his situation is looking really good right now, despite the crap economy.
It was nice getting out of the house the last two days. I haven't done much besides my computer project for about a week since I came back from visiting my brother.
I need to get out more.

Yeah. We had a great time. His wife's father passed away just last week, and she'd been spending a LOT of time over there with him for the two years he hung on. I think I was a great distraction to that, and we had a lot of laughs during the dinner. Her mom said something super funny which wouldn't make sense out of context and without me trying to explain it all, but it was completely out of character for her and not something you'd expect a woman in her 70's to say. I even managed to bring it back later in the conversation and we got another good laugh out of it. His wife was in tears she was laughing so hard and said she didn't think that those were the types of tears she'd be crying tonight.
The food was awesome. My family hasn't done thanksgiving (at least remotely in town) for about 20 years and any time I was working I'd always volunteer that day and get the extra pay. So after my plans fell through I was really happy for the offer.
The couches are nice, but they're tan and probably would clash with my colors in the living room. Oh well... I've never been one to care about those things. It will be comfortable though. They're great.

Busy day...
Grandma and aunt came over since they didn't stop by on Thanksgiving, so I had about 4 hours of house cleanup before they got here. It was a nice visit.
I'd planned on just ripping down the wood that I needed to make something for my brother on the table saw and just make sure everything I needed to rip for the winter was done before it gets cold for good, but I ended up working until 10PM out in the garage and got most of the thing done.
Glued parts are clamped and drying. It'll be raining tomorrow but I think it's still over 50 for the high, so I might as well just get it done tomorrow.
It's a "sleeve" to put over his table next to his desk/TV stand that he's got his SMALL apple computer, his router and some other stuff I forget. He needs something that will protect all of that from his destructive cat, and right now he's got an exercise mat taped around things with duct tape and two couch pillows on top of it. It looks like crap, is a huge hassle for him to undo if he needs to change anything out, and doesn't really let the electronics breathe.
He wanted it made out of plywood, but that would have been heavy and fairly expensive. I built the skeleton from what was left of my pallet wood and a few 3 foot 1x6's I had. I was going to put full pieces of hardboard on both sides, but I don't have enough. So I ripped what I did have down to 2.5" widths and made slats with 1 5/8" gaps in between and glued them on and clamped them.
Now I've got enough for a solid sheet on the top and the front, and I'm going to either screw 4 washers on the front and top or glue 4 slugs from electric boxes onto the skeleton, and then I'm going to glue some hard drive magnets I've got so he'll have two panels that he can remove to get to what he needs to from the top and the front without having to take it back out.
I'll show you some pictures when I get around to it.

It's nice doing nothing.
I didn't finish the unit, but I did get the front hardboard panel cut down to size and sanded the edges all smooth. I decided to screw in two washers in the 4 corners instead of trying to glue electric box slugs, and used super glue to put 4 hard drive magnets on the inside of the panel to "clip" onto the washer/screws. It works great!
The front panel probably doesn't need it, but I'm going to get some of the black rubber bumpers that I used for my kitchen cabinet doors to put in the middle of the screw/magnet combos for extra support since they do raise the panel off the frame. I'm definitely going to want to do that to the top where the cat is going to be jumping.
I'm also going to add a small panel to the back/top of the unit that sticks up just about 1/8th of an inch. That top panel is BIG and if I don't do that it will slip and hit the wall when my brother takes it off from the front, and without it being there for him to press into when setting it back into place I'm afraid he's going to have a bit of trouble putting the 4 magnets on right. Once they snap into place they're really tight and you can't really slide it into place after they clamp down. This will be a little guide that will help him match up perfectly with the depth and all he'll have to worry about is having it centered correctly before gently dropping it back into place.
I had to get my smallest brad nails and shoot 6 of them in each of the slats on the sides of the unit. I gave a light tug test to all of them, and every one seemed to be sturdy except for the middle that popped out of one where the glue apparently didn't do the job. So I didn't want to risk the cat would be rougher with it than my gentle pulling. It's rock solid now.
I also started taking apart a microwave my neighbors threw out to get the good bits out of it, but then it got real cold and I was done for the day.
47 and sunny tomorrow and 55 and rainy on Tuesday, so I'm sure I'll be able to finish both projects and get the garage cleaned up for my car that hopefully gets finished this week.
That will be just about the end of my projects out in the garage until April or so.

Doing my best to resist the Black Friday itch here.
Home Depot just so happens to have 4 of the cordless power tools I've been looking for in a combo sale. But I know that if I buy them at a different time I can get them cheaper when the right 2pack combos come up. They're throwing in a charger and two of the small batteries with it, and I've already given away 2 chargers and I don't need any more small batteries. But it's got the better of the two router models, the better of the two rotary tools, the random orbital sander I've been wanting for a year or two and a glue gun... but the glue gun isn't the version with two heat settings, so it's not really the one I want.
I'm also looking at newegg at a bunch of things around the $5 price point... various useful adapters, 2.5" drive cases and hubs... but that's been leading me down a rabbit hole where I'm already finding over $50 of stuff I don't really need.
I'll probably end up buying nothing like I usually do after spending a few hours just window shopping.

I hate how much more I pay attention to politics when the weather gets cold.
What I need to do is get this house finished and more efficiently heated so I can have a proper workspace in my basement for project work to keep my mind away from such things. TV and Movies hold no interest for me, my computer project gets kind of dangerous since I can lose days at a time in it and not be properly keeping up with anything else if I go too far down that rabbit hole, and these short days when the sun is down before 4:30PM really screws with my mood and sleep schedule.
I didn't buy anything for Black Friday... yet. But I still have about a billion tabs open and a few carts full of stuff that I probably won't buy.
My goal today is to finish my brother's computer sleeve and to get that microwave taken apart so I can get the useful stuff out and put the rest on the curb Wednesday night. Then I'll spend the "warm" Wednesday cleaning the garage for the year and making sure I didn't forget to weatherize something. I should put starting my snow blower in the mix too. Don't want to find out there's a problem when I need it.

I finished my brother's computer sleeve this afternoon. I'll get around to sorting out my pictures and get pics of that and the entryway table up soonish.
Tore that microwave apart and got a cool additional thing that I've never grabbed out of one since none of the others were wall units that vented out. (I saw your message Sigs and will properly reply to all of that later).
I did a little cleanup but boy when that sun goes down it drops quick. Done for the day. I'm ahead of schedule for once, so I should have a good Tuesday and make the most of the 55 degrees. Time to get cleaned up. That freakin' microwave was GROSS!!!

I don't think you function that way, SIX. Someone I know very well seems to be like you: when he's "on" he's on 150%. Perhaps even more than you: hyperfocused on a project or process for days/weeks/ months at a time. When immersed in something entirely losing track of time. In between projects kind of torpid. You can at least switch up from day to day. Not sure he can.
Some people are more suited to chipping away at things. Putting in consistent but smaller effort on a variety of things, which can be scheduled more easily.
Some people, like one person I know, flit from one thing to anyone a random pattern. That, I think, is an attention problem. Neither the intense productivity with your kind of intense energy nor the consistent day to day effort.

At the end of the day, isn't it almost just a big waste of time? My life changed a lot while Trump was President, but that didn't have anything to do with it. That was me getting sober and then finally getting around to getting my house in order. Literally. So many old skills brushed up on and improved. So many new things learned. So many new tools acquired, both literally and figuratively. Fixing relationships. Constant flow of compliments from neighbors who I'm sure hated having me as their neighbor when I was drunk 24/7 and let everything go to hell.
If it wasn't for Covid screwing with everybody's head for so long and the fallout from that, almost nothing has really changed in the real world as far as I'm concerned. Not while Trump was President. Not these last two years. The prices might be a little more now, but other than that everything is still copacetic.

I don't know how I'd go about teaching stuff to people. Not that I couldn't do it, but I don't know how I'd find somebody to teach. Anybody in my circle either doesn't have any interest in what I know or already knows it. Although, I my friend's dad did some electrical work in my friend's garage a few weeks back and he told me that he took a cue from a couple of things I showed him that I did in both my garage and my shed and he did it like I did.
I thought that was pretty freakin' awesome since he's the guy who taught me how to do electric over 20 years ago in the first place.
As for doing something else, I think I'd like to start getting into woodworking and furniture making. I think I really have a knack for it. It would be a long time before I was able to make any profit off of it though. I'm too slow at things right now to make it viable, and I have a LOT of tools that I'd need to buy. That's part of my dilemma right now. Boy... if I could bring myself to buy that desktop planer for $360, that would be huge. There's a whole lot of furniture I could start building just using pallet wood if I had that tool to smooth it out for me.

I don't have ANY schedule. Most days I could very well simply choose not to do anything of importance. If I wanted to, I could stay up all night into the afternoon working on my computer project or just playing video games and sleep all day tomorrow instead of taking advantage of what might be the last nice day until winter is done. And there have been many, many, many days where I did just that. Even after I sobered up too even, but particularly when I was drinking.
Near total freedom is nice, but boy you've got to be good at keeping yourself motivated and not falling into bad habits. These are learned skills.

I wasn't always able to switch it up. That's been a more recent development. It still gnaws at me when I leave one project unfinished to jump to another one, but I have to train myself to be more adaptable. It just makes good sense for a lot of different reasons. There's no way I would have been able to achieve what I did this spring through fall if I hyper-focused on one thing at a time. I just have to not let it demoralize me that nearly every project I've got going on is around 80 to 90% finished and almost nothing is 100% complete. I've got to take a few steps back and look at how much the overall project has progressed, even if aside from my garage, two of my 4 closets and my pantry I can't really say that any single room in my house is finished and the outside of the house may still take years for me to chip away at.
But thank god for digital photos. I can always go back and look at what things looked like 3 years ago compared to where I've got them now and remember the dark and dreary filth I had surrounded myself in and compare it to how nice things are looking today.

I'm only (very!) rarely an intensely -focused person, altho there are times it could be very useful.
Usually, the dog takes me for a walk every day, and the family doesn't appreciate late meals, so I'm kept somewhat on a schedule.
It would be great if we could just switch on certain personality traits, wouldn't it?

Oh... I'm still super intense and it nags at me in the back of my head when things are left unfinished. I've just had to switch from thing to thing this summer. The biggest reason was I had to drop everything I was doing when my friend's dad finally started making good on the work he owed me for over a year. (He did finally square up, BTW).
The other reason is cutting down on waste. Both wasted product and wasted time. If I know I'm going to be primering 8 different unrelated things, it makes sense to have all 8 things prepped for prime at one time rather than clean the brush and waste 1/3 of a gallon over time. Same with caulk and liquid nails and watertite too. Much less time wasted doing cleanup that way too... especially when I'm making a mess of my garage. Why clean up the garage once or twice a week when I can do a ton of stuff in there all at once and just clean it up once?
The trick is not to make it TOO MUCH at once though. I've still got 100 things I need to prime at some point, but if I spent all summer prepping everything I wouldn't have even started priming anything yet.

I hear ya, although I can't relate. I'm never joking when I say I have zero obligations. That will change when my old man is no longer around to look after my brother, but for right now it's really all on me to keep myself motivated and working. It's why it's so easy for me to slip into a streak of depression and not get back up for a while. That happens less frequently these days than in the past, but winter is always hard. Last winter was almost a complete waste. I got hooked on a couple of PC games and there had to be about a 2.5 month stretch where nothing of value was done.
This time I did bury myself in my computer project for a week when it was really cold though, and after I got back from visting my brother I've been managing to keep busy with physical project work, and prepping most of the stuff I need in my basement for work I need to do during the winter that I can't do in the garage becasue of the temp. But when I was working on that computer project I had a few nights where I slowly started creeping from 12AM bedtimes to 4AM bedtimes. I can really get wrapped up in that and even though I know there's no reason to be staying up that late because there's always tomorrow, I get a bit OCD about it.

Speaking of balance, I made a compromise with myself and bought some new toys.
It turns out I was right about that 4-tool set with the battery and charger. I really wasn't going to save much at all on it. Maybe about $20 with a free charger I didn't need and a 13th battery that I really didn't need either.
So I ended up only buying the cheap glue gun that was on sale for $20 instead of $35, and really treated myself with a cordless hand planer that was $70 instead of $100. The glue gun isn't the dual temp one, but that isn't on sale and it's $80. I've never had a glue gun before, although I bought a ton of glue sticks that were free after rebate a year or two ago, and now I have one. If I decide down the road I want a dual temp gun I can give that one away or just have a backup.
The planer is going to be AWESOME. When I can get my hands on more pallets down the road, I will be able to use it to turn ratty old pallet wood into furniture quality stuff. Sure... I'd love to buy a table top planer, but the one I was looking at for almost $400 didn't get very good reviews, and if I want a Dewalt or Milwaukee we're talking like $650 to $800. Let's start with the small one and see what I can do with it first, right?
I still really need a random orbital sander, but the only sale they had was that and a corner cat sander for about $5 more than the ROS would have been on its own. That's a PHENOMENAL deal, but I already have the corner cat sander that I got with the same deal a few years back but with the square palm sander instead. I'm sure if I'm patient I'll see the random orbital sander for a good deal alone or bundled with a tool I haven't already gotten. When I finally do buy one, I have TONS of hook and loop sand paper in various grit for it. I bought a lot of boxes full of them that were something like $7.99 each but only $0.99 after rebate. I think I have like 12 boxes that have 20 pieces each.
I really didn't need that cordless router. I already have a badass corded one. The problem with it is that it's so big and beefy that it's not great for using by hand. What I really need to do is get a table for it. That would be better than a cordless version anyhow then. The one I got I bought off of a guy who's dad died and he was looking to get rid of his woodworking equipment. It's a pro piece.
And as nice as that rotary tool looks, I did just buy one at Harbor Freight a while back. It's a POS that only cost me a few bucks on sale, but until I really need one and/or can get it on a good sale, it will do me. The only reason I bought that cheap one is because I thought it would help me get the candle wax off that entryway table, but it was of no use for that. I would have shredded that basket weave for sure with it.
I also bought a few small electronics things that will give a boost to the ol' quality of life. Most notably a bluetooth dongle for my computer where I've got my music stored. I have a portable speaker with great bass that does bluetooth, but I only ever use the small SD card inside of it that has like 75 songs on it. Now I should be able to take that into any room in the house and listen to my full music library and not hear the same songs everyday.

Just heard from my friend. He's coming by to drop off some other things he had including a few items from his bathroom before he remodeled it. I already got the pedestal sink and oak medicine cabinet, but he's got the over vanity lights which are a lot nicer than the crap in my bathroom and a few other things in his car that he wants to drop off after work.
He's not sure when we're moving the furniture to my place yet, but it will be this week or early next week.
He just asked me if I'd be willing to help him take apart that pool table and transport it back to his place and help him paint the small basement in exchange for that fireplace heater. Absolutely.
That's exactly what I hoped would be the outcome here. That's about a $400 unit when it's not on sale. I'm not a huge fan of moving heavy things, but I love painting. And I already offered to help him move the pool table regardless.

Well, with looking after my mom and then helping Blair before he died. I've had a lot of things to unlearn especially in regard to my mom. So, I'm trying to take it easier on myself now.
For a long time on these boards my signature was "Do right, be right".

I try not to be as hard on myself as I used to be. It's easier these days because even though I always fall back into a slump eventually, I know that I'm doing right with more of my time than not.
But it's still a long way for me before I find balance.
But it's a worthwhile goal.

Growing up in a Republic was nice... Shame we couldn't keep it.
It was.
My thing was that I got into this routine with my mom especially where everything was a rush in the last few years of her life with doctors and hospitals. It can be very hard to get out of that mentality. I still every so often fall back into it.
True. But like they say old habits are hard to break. And that one keeps sneaking back up on me.

Well, weather still calling for so but so far none in my area. But I've got to be prepared when I go out just incase it arrives when I am out. Need my meds and make a dental appointment for next year.

Trust me. I know the feeling of rushing. If I didn't waste so much time, then everything wouldn't be a rush when I'm working on it. Add to that me being a perfectionist, and it's like my psyche is tearing itself in half sometimes.
But now that I finally feel like I'm starting to get ahead of it, I'm able to have downtime without feeling so guilty about it these days. Boy... it will be nice to finally have the house done and only have to worry about regular maintenance stuff. I'm still a few years away from that, but I'm hoping I can really start to find the balance at that point.
