Last night I watched a minute of Tucker Carlson’s interview with the twice-impeached, quadruply-indicted presumptive Republican nominee . . .
. . . a candidate whom Carlson has said he “hates passionately” and whom he has characterized as “a demonic force, a destroyer” . . .
. . . and though he presumably realizes that Trump holds the honor, Carlson gave him a platform to say — projecting, as he so often does — “Joe Biden is the worst president in the history of our country.”
Biden who, with his team, has led us to:
> The lowest unemployment rate in 50 years.
> Inflation lower than in any of Ronald Reagan’s 8 years.
> A current “misery index” lower than it was at the end of Eisenhower’s presidency . . . or Reagan’s, Ford’s, Carter’s, Clinton’s, Nixon’s, Kennedy’s, Johnson’s, either Bush’s or Trump’s.
> The long-sought bipartisan infrastructure bill Trump could never achieve.
> An S&P 500 up 18% since taking office.
> Rising wages.
> A resurgence in manufacturing.
> A dramatically strengthened NATO — Russia, are you listening? — with strengthened Pacific partnerships as well.
> A restoration of dignity to the office of the presidency.

So why do most Americans believe the country is on the wrong track?
They believe it because . . .
. . . if they’re Trump’s 35%, that’s what he’s led them to believe.
. . . and if they’re not, they are, like me and (I’d guess) you, deeply dismayed if not downright frightened by our ever-increasing polarization and the way facts no longer seem to matter.
If Trump says he had the largest inaugural crowd in history when he plainly did not, it’s just an “alternative fact.”
If more than 1,000 former Republican and Democratic federal prosecutors say he obstructed justice, it’s a “witch hunt.”
If he summons his followers to Washington (“it will be wild”) and tells them to march down to the Capitol and “fight like hell” because the election was stolen from them, knowing that some of them are armed, and then watches for 187 minutes while they storm the Capitol and threaten to kill the Vice President before reluctantly telling them he loves them but they should go home — well, what’s wrong with that?
The entire Republican Party except for Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger just goes along with it.
Sure, he’s a liar. Sure he’s a bully. Sure he’s a wannabe strongman who loves Putin, Kim Jung-Un, and the Proud Boys; who flirts with fascism and kept a book of Hitler’s speeches by his bedside. But he’s their wannabe strongman! Their retribution, no less!
This is scary stuff. So the 65% who are not under his spell think the country’s headed in a dangerous direction, too.

Yes, we have crime problems (worst in red states). The whole country (very much including those red states) needs to do better.
Yes, we have an immigration mess (not least because the bi-partisan comprehensive immigration reform that passed the Senate 68-32 a decade ago was blocked by a Republican minority in the House; it would have passed easily if the Republicans had allowed it to come up for a vote, so they did not). But it could be fixed if both sides would cooperate; and Biden may get that done in his second term as he got the CHIPs Act passed and Infrastructure bill passed, and the Inflation Reduction Act passed.
But in the main, this president, far from being “the worst president in history,” is shaping up to be one of the best.
If our democracy survives, historians will surely say, almost as one: “Move over, Dubya: Trump had you beat by a mile.”

In 2014, after working for a hedge fund as a biotech investor, Ramaswamy started up Roivant Sciences, which was originally intended to buy the rights to castoff drugs and then continue developing them. His first deal was completed by a Roivant subsidiary called Axovant. Among other things, Ramaswamy:
Bought the rights to intepirdine, a failed Alzheimer's drug, for almost nothing in December 2014.
Took Axovant public in June 2015.
Somehow talked up its value to $3 billion before cashing out in December 2015.
Unsurprisingly, intepirdine failed yet another clinical trial and Axovant collapsed. Before that happened, however, it had made a bunch of money for Ramaswamy in the space of a mere 12 months.

Appealing to electability is the only path forward for any of Trump’scompetitors. And because Ron DeSantis, Ramaswamy, and Pence refuse to make this pitch, the field has been left wide open for Haley. The catch is the same problem that plagues Republicans nationwide: The party never did an autopsy after its 2020 drubbing, because party leadership blithely accepted Trump’s lies and/or delusions that he was the true winner. That is one of the main reasons that Republicans have been unable to change course in the aftermath of multiple disappointing electoral cycles in a row. The End Will Come for the Cult of MAGA

In October of last year, Donald Trump filed a defamation suit accusing CNN of calling him a lot of bad names, the first on the lengthy list being “like a cult leader.” One could assume that Trump would be flattered by that, because cult leaders are usually depicted in pop culture as charismatic masters with near-divine power over the lives of their followers. Jimmy Breslin once called then-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani a “small man in search of a balcony.” If so, then Trump is a large man in search of a compound.
Trump stands in front of massive crowds festooned with insignia proclaiming their allegiance, chanting his name and accompanying him on the familiar refrains: “Lock her/him up!” “Build the wall!” They will countenance no criticism of their idol and accept his version of events without question.
Those who call Trumpism a cult can point to his popularity with Republican voters increasing with each of his four criminal indictments. A CBS poll in late August revealed that the most trusted source of information among those voters—more than conservative media, family members, or clergy—is that famed straight shooter Donald J. Trump.
At this point, as the nation faces a series of trials both literal and metaphorical, what label to apply to his movement doesn’t matter. The important question isn’t whether or not Trumpism is a cult. It’s whether the study of cults provides us with any path out of here.
Trump’s suit against CNN was thrown out of court, but Diane Benscoter, the cult expert and former cult member (a “Moonie” of the Unification Church) who compared Trump to a cult leader on CNN, still believes what she said. She’s been working with two incarcerated January 6 participants at the request of their lawyers, not so much to persuade them to recant as to help them with their behavior and attitude while in court—for example, no shouted accusations about the “deep state.” The work is difficult and slow, she told me, even more difficult than her recent efforts to “deprogram” India Oxenberg, one of the high-profile women caught up in NXIVM, the sex cult masquerading as a self-improvement course.
It’s so difficult, in fact, that she sees greater hope in attacking the demand side of cultism, calling for government programs that would treat disinformation and indoctrination as a kind of public-health emergency—a Sanitary Commission of the Mind. If enough people can be taught how indoctrination works, she thinks, they will be able to see it coming for them before it’s too late. Set aside the legal and ethical questions about assigning the government that sort of expansive role; what if it’s already too late? Educating people so they won’t join a political cult, in 2023, is like closing the barn door after the horse has attacked the West Portico of the Capitol with bear spray.
Steven Hassan, another former cult member (also a Moonie), published his book The Cult of Trump in 2019, long before the attack on the Capitol, even before Trump persuaded thousands of his followers to gather indoors unmasked during the worst airborne pandemic in a century. Hassan told me that the MAGA movement checks all the boxes of his “BITE” model of cult mind control: behavior, information, thought, and emotional control. Like all cult leaders, he argues, Trump restricts the information his followers are allowed to accept; demands purity of belief (beliefs that can change from moment to moment, as per his whims and needs); and appeals to his followers through the conjuring of primal emotions — not just fear but also joy.
His rallies, as so many have reported, are ecstatic events; people cheer and laugh as their various enemies are condemned and insulted. Hassan will be the first to tell you that being part of a cult means you’re empowered, special, one of the elect, close to the person who has all the answers/will lead us to paradise/will “make America great again.” That, in fact, may be the greatest disincentive to turn away from Tr

But I heard an interesting point about why Biden* is so desperate for a win (or at least, not a loss) in Ukraine. And that is, that if he loses the election, he and his family members would wind up in jail.
And extending that further, if the DNC loses its grip on the Senate, and the RNC loses enough of its establishment stalwarts (Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy etc,) just imagine the FIB, CIA, and DOJ coming under some REAL scrutiny.
There are probably people in DC right now who are having butt-puckering moments just thinking about it.

Following the fourth wave of indictments of former President Donald J. Trump on August 15, most commentary has addressed the legal details of the accusations, speculated on likely legal tactics, and explored the political consequences of a trial during an election year.
What has been missing is a discussion of why so many otherwise “reasonable” people continue to embrace an anti-democratic and authoritarian leader so much so that recent polls show Trump and President Joe Biden effectively tied.
Dismissing Trump supporters as “deplorables” or as nut cases misses the point. The Democratic Party in particular, and liberalism in general, seriously underestimate the emotional and affective dimensions of right-wing authoritarianism in America.
It’s probably too late to try to convince most Trump supporters to abandon their willingness to endorse openly fascist, racist, science-denying policies. Instead, we need to understand what’s behind their support and how those on the margins — still leaning, but perhaps not quite in either camp — could be persuaded to embrace a more inclusive set of policies that honor the country’s diversity, address major public issues like the climate crisis, and exert leadership relative to a host of foreign policy challenges.
Transgression is at the core Trumpism
When Trump first won the presidency in 2016, legacy media outlets, including the New York Times, wrung their hands in anguish for having missed the story of profound public anxiety about the future. They raced to diners and truck stops across the Midwest in an effort to find out what “ordinary Americans” — those who rejected the Roosevelt coalition and bicoastal liberalism — were thinking and feeling.
The stories that resulted painted a picture of the American Dream in a considerable state of decay, if not outright shambles. To anyone familiar with those areas, this was less a revelation than a confirmation that the myth of the hard-working family building a better future in the land of opportunity was just that. The deep residues of racism from the Civil War and its aftermath in the Jim Crow South were just the most flammable components of a promise gone awry, thanks to persistent ethnocentrism and racism, the enduring power of class stratification, and the ability of the wealthiest to game the system for advantage in taxes, regulatory neglect, and evasion of legal accountability.
Trump’s success as a demagogue was to give voice to growing frustration in a way that had never been done publicly before. Until he came along on the national stage, the anger, resentment, and entitlement of lawless transgression was always present, but relegated to the margins of mainstream politics.
Of course, this is a contestable point. Anyone who has studied the KKK, or Father Coughlin, or lynchings in the deep South, the Tulsa massacre of 1920 or sundown laws in the North would know that overt racism was always deeply embedded in both political parties. But by the 1960s the most extreme manifestations were fighting uphill battles against the Civil Rights movement and a succession of Supreme Court decisions made during Earl Warren’s tenure as chief justice.
Still, the underlying rage of white supremacists and others allied with the right, or the so-called “conservative” wing, never went away. The Nixon

Yesterday, a federal judge found former President Donald Trump liable for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll for a second time after he claimed she was a liar following allegations that he raped her in the 1990s.
Judge Lewis Kaplan’s decision means that an upcoming civil trial in the case will simply determine how much Trump owes Carroll in damages, rather than focusing on his liability. It’s the second time Trump has been found liable for defamation after a jury came to the same conclusion earlier this year. Kaplan concluded that since that jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll, the question of whether his claims about her fabricating the incident constituted defamation had been settled, negating the need for another trial on the matter.

I say "latest," but only because it's new for Tucker. For the rest of us it's just ancient conspiracy theory twaddle. Sinclair wrote a whole book about it back in 2008 and it was as laughable then as it is now. He even dramatically agreed to take a lie detector test—and failed it. In true Trumpian style, he then insisted that one of Obama's aides had bribed the polygraph folks to rig the test.
So why do I care about this? I don't. But it goes to show something unexpected: apparently Fox News really did keep a lid on Tucker while he worked there. It often seemed as if his ranting could hardly get worse, but it's now obvious that it could—and has. No wonder they fired him. He must have been even more of a loose cannon than we imagined.

Concern for U.S. democracy amid deep national polarization has prompted the entities supporting 13 presidential libraries dating back to Herbert Hoover to call for a recommitment to the country’s bedrock principles, including the rule of law and respecting a diversity of beliefs.

A thought about our former president, our laws, and our future
Dear Republicans,
I woke up this morning to read a number of Republican elected representatives assigning themselves the role of judge and jury in the Trump espionage case. Why do I write "judge and jury"? Because to declare the man not guilty is to take the place of the judicial branch.
It's one thing when an average citizen does this. We can all have our opinions. But it's quite another when a senator or a representative makes such a claim. The basis of our Constitution is the separation of powers. When elected representatives take the place of judges and juries, they violate that spirit. They tell citizens that the laws they make are in fact meaningless.
I read also of Republicans who suddenly talk about unequal treatment of Americans in our judicial system. Yes, that is a problem, one recognized by the millions of people who don't have the money to fund your campaigns or your lobbyists, or to fund teams of lawyers like Trump's. It's a problem for all of the typical Americans who see that people like Trump get off over and over again. Trump says that he is a wealthy man. To say that a wealthy man is above the law is making the real problem worse.
I read Republican politicians claim that a former president cannot be tried. If that were true, then every wealthy criminal would run for office, seeking their lifelong get-out-of-jail card. If that were true, then presidents in office and out of office would be incentivized to commit crimes. If that were true, Americans would quickly lose all confidence in the office of the presidency.
The job of the executive is to enforce the law. Putting the executive above the law makes nonsense of the Constitution. Does trying a former president make us a banana republic? No, not doing so makes us a banana republic, or really something worse. The moment we say that one person is above the law, we no longer have the rule of law. The moment we no longer have the rule of law, we cease to exist as any kind of republic.
In other republics with the rule of law (recent examples are France and Italy) former heads of state or government are in fact tried, and are sometimes, after due process, found guilty and sentenced. It happens and it has to happen. Citizens lose their trust otherwise. To say that it does not happen is simply wrong.
In our country, citizens play some interesting roles in the judicial branch. For example, they serve on grand juries, such as the one that issued the indictment of Trump on espionage and other charges. This is a process, one to be respected, especially by elected representatives.
None of this is political advice. These are just the words of a citizen who cares about the country. The political advice, however, would be this: if you commit yourself now to an anti-constitutional position, you will have a hard time extracting yourself later. Leaders come and go. A republic endures.

Trump justified polarizing decisions with self-fulfilling prophesies
On Election Day 2016, Donald Trump was seen as a flawed candidate with a moderate ideology. He lost that moderate image pretty quickly after taking office, and that’s because he didn’t do moderate stuff.
Interestingly, that pivot to the right involved him directly violating promises he made during the GOP primary campaign. In other words, it’s not that Trump “had to” pivot right in order to win the nomination. He ran and won saying that he would protect Medicaid (along with Social Security and Medicare) and tax the rich, but then he endorsed congressional Republican efforts to do the reverse.
And you saw something similar in the way he staffed his administration. Even though he clearly beat the party establishment to secure the nomination and largely won the general election without much help from the official GOP apparatus, in office he governed as a fairly conventional conservative who just really loved tariffs. Over time, he’s succeeded in bringing more and more of the conservative movement around to his indulgence of Russian nationalism, which is interesting but not really a gesture of moderation.
Anytime I bring this stuff up, people say it’s silly to act like the Trump phenomenon was or is about public policy. But I think that’s a fallacy. All the normal things people say about American
politics of 2015-2023 are true. But these things are also true:
• If Trump hadn’t pushed hard for ACA repeal and an unpopular regressive tax bill, Republicans would have done much better in the 2018 midterms.
• If Trump had caved to Nancy Pelosi on additional Covid aid in the fall of 2020, he would have been re-elected.
• If Trump had slid one slightly squishy Supreme Court justice onto the bench, the Dobbs decision would have reflected Chief Justice Roberts’ strategy of chipping away at abortion rights while minimizing public backlash, and Republicans would have done better in the 2022 midterms.
The Trump Show has many dimensions and the part where the star often does totally normal conservative Republican things is the least interesting part of the program, but it’s still important. And it’s important to recognize that this was not forced on him by primary voters; it reflects choices he made about alliances and staffing and his own personal priorities.

What Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orbán Understand About Your Brain
Why do some people who support Trump also wind up believing conspiracy theories? There’s a scientific explanation for that.

Marcel Danesi is a professor of semiotics and linguistic anthropology at the University of Toronto. He is the author of the recent book, Politics, Lies and Conspiracy Theories: A Cognitive Linguistic Perspective.
My research analyzes real speeches made by politicians past and present, including those of Trump, Orba´n and Putin, using cognitive linguistics — a branch of linguistics that examines the relationship between language and the mind. What I have found is that throughout history, speeches by dictators and autocrats have one thing in common: they use dehumanizing metaphors to instill and propagate hatred of others.
It is well-documented that for example words like “reptiles” and “parasites” were used by the Nazi regime to compare outsiders and minorities to animals. Strongmen throughout history have referred to targeted social groups as “rats” or “pests” or “a plague.” And it’s effective regardless of whether the people who hear this language are predisposed to jump to extreme conclusions. Once someone is tuned into these metaphors, their brain actually changes in ways that make them more likely to believe bigger lies, even conspiracy theories.
These metaphors are part of a cognitive process that entraps some people in this kind of thinking while others are unaffected. Here’s how it works.
The first step to manipulating the minds of the public, or really the precondition, is that listeners need to be in the right emotional state.
In order to hack into the minds of the public, people need to feel fear or uncertainty. That could be caused by economic instability or pre-existing cultural prejudices, but the emotional basis is fear. The brain is designed to respond to fear in various ways, with its own in-built defense mechanisms which produce chemicals in the response pattern, such as cortisol and adrenaline. These chemical responses, which zip straight past our logical brains to our fight-or-flight reactions, are also activated by forms of language that instill fear, either directly (as in a vocal threat) or, more insidiously, by twisted facts which allay fears through lies and deceptive statements.
In this state, dehumanizing metaphors are very effective. My research shows that this language taps into and “switches on” existing circuits in the brain that link together important and salient images and ideas. In effect, metaphors bypass higher cognitive reasoning centers to make linkages that may not have a basis in reality. And when that happens, a person is less likely to notice the lie, because it “feels” right.
This pattern becomes more effective the more it is used. According to studies, the more these circuits are activated the more hardwired they become, until it becomes almost impossible to turn them off. What this means is these repetitive uses of dehumanizing metaphors are incredibly powerful to those brains already willing to hear them, because they direct their thoughts, making it easy to focus on certain things and ignore others.
The same is true of conspiracy theories. The neuroscientific research shows that people who believe them develop more rigid neural pathways, meaning they find it difficult to rethink situations once this pattern of thinking is established.
This also means that if someone is already more susceptible to believing lies in the form of dehumanizing metaphors and this same person comes across a big lie or a conspiracy theory that fits into that well-trodden neural pathway, they are more likely to believe it and be influenced by it.
This is how language that might seem like harmless hyperbole winds up literally changing the way people think. And once they think differently, they can act in ways that they might not have before.

The former Fox News host Tucker Carlson blasted Texas Gov Greg Abbott for not allowing the state’s National Guard to shoot migrants at the US-Mexico border.
“How many Texans do you think are all on board with letting 7 million people cross into their state illegally?” Carlson asked the audience at an event on Sunday in Utica, Michigan, according to Newsweek.
“What percentage? Zero. I don’t care what your race or national origin — nobody is for that. Has the governor of Texas done anything meaningful to stop it? No,” Carlson added.
Carlson suggested that Mr Abbott could succeed in securing the border “in a week” if he lined up the National Guard along the southern border.
“He refuses to do that. He won’t do it,” Carlson said. “And it’s not like no one suggested it. I’ve suggested to him three times, including in private at a cocktail party in Dallas last year. ‘What are you doing, man? Don’t you have a National Guard? Why don’t you seal the border?’”
Carlson recalled that the Texas governor told him that idea was “complicated.”
“No, it’s not,” Carlson said on Sunday. “If someone’s trying to break into my house, it’s not complicated to repel the person. Do you have a firearm or don’t you? Are you willing to defend your house and your children or aren’t you?”

So I always thought when Trump came along, what a lot of people have to revert to is: “Doesn’t he suck? I hate that guy. He’s an asshole.” And those aren’t jokes. And so I think it’s just … I’m really going on a limb here saying: That’s his greatest crime, that I think he’s hurt political comedy by being so outlandish himself. I think the January 6 thing is a blip compared to how much he’s hurt comedy.

Until Democrats understand viscerally that Republicans would rather die than allow Medicare for All, the program is doomed to be talked about but never passed into law. Many different Republicans in Congress must either die or not be reelected for this program to become a reality.
Sadly, Democrats keep believing they can persuade Republican Congressmen who will never change their minds to become enlightened. It won't happen. Those Republicans must leave Congress, either dead or alive. Slavery could never be made illegal until a large number of stubborn fools in Congress were violently forced out of the room. The same is even more true for the passage of a Medicare for All bill.

The moral: buy the spray rather than the pills. The panel is not questioning the effectiveness of nasal spray phenylephrine, which is still thought to provide temporary relief from congestion.
But 6ixStringJack, being a complete asshole, does NOT understand something even that simple. That is why something complex, Medicare for All, will be fought to the death by Republicans. Republicans are born complete assholes about everything, not just politics.

And it has been a pretty easy sell: Most supporters of the former president never liked the government anyway
Distrust of institutions - from Congress to the media to the legal system - fueled Trump's journey to the presidency; nowadays, disdain for "the establishment" is sustaining his comeback bid as he faces up to four criminal trials on charges that would have destroyed previous candidates, according to a variety of Trump supporters and political analysts.
Trump voters such as Janet Cozzone, a retiree who lives in Trenton, Florida, said the businessman-turned-presidential-candidate "opened the eyes" of people who once had faith in public officials to do the right thing.
"Donald Trump taught us that we may be great, but we are not as great as we think we are," she said.
'I'm being indicted for you'
Since the start of his political career, and throughout a tumultuous presidency that included two impeachments, Trump has cast the various investigations into his conduct as attacks on his political supporters and their movement.
"I'm being indicted for you," Trump has told his followers, appealing to people who have long been suspicious of what he calls "the swamp" of government.
Tobias Hernandez, 32, a trucking company manager from Warwick, Rhode Island, said Trump "might be on to something" when he says that too many officials are only out for themselves - and that sometimes includes Trump himself, he added.
"I support the movement, but I don't really support him personally," Hernandez said. "I don't know what his true intentions are."
'Getting burned'
Other Republicans said that too many Trump supporters are fooling themselves and that the former president is only looking to protect himself. They also said Trump's legal problems will hurt him with independents voters who could decide the 2024 general election.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has mocked Trump's claim of being "indicted for you," noted this week that Russian President Vladimir Putin - a dictator who is considered an enemy of the U.S. - echoed his claim that a rotten system is targeting an ex-president.
"Trump is under indictment because of his conduct," Christie said on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter "He played with fire and is getting burned."
The former president was expected to spotlight his message Friday with two speeches in Washington, D.C. One is to the organization Concerned Women for America, and the other is at a "Pray Vote Stand Summit."
'It's a sham'
Trump faces two legal cases involving alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, another one involving obstruction of justice and hiding classified documents, and another involving hush money payments - yet many of his supporters are sticking with him out of distrust of the accusers.
Jacob A. Fokken, 28, an automotive repairman from Las Vegas, said the government wants only to "help the people they want" and go after opponents like Trump.
"You can say what you want against anybody without any proof," he said.
As for the system itself, he said: "It's a sham."
Many Republicans seem to agree. The Real Clear Politics average of national polls gives Trump more than 56% of the Republican vote. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is far behind at 13%.
Local polls also give Trump huge leads in early contest states like Iowa and New Hampshire.

People can and do change, even those with extreme views like these, but there’s not much evidence that happened here. As the writer Jonathan Katz notes, Hanania recently wrote, “These people are animals, whether they’re harassing people in subways or walking around in suits,” in an angry tweet about the Black district attorney of Manhattan indicting a white man who strangled a homeless Black man on the subway.
It is understandable that Hanania prefers to present himself as a mainstream, respectable intellectual than as a creep interested in the attractiveness of cartoon characters and the genitalia of the Founding Fathers. The eagerness of some of his allies to accept his rather superficial apology—Katz notes that Substack CEO Chris Best praised him for “an honest post on a difficult subject”—is a little more puzzling. As Mathias writes, Hanania’s genetic determinism appears to be popular among wealthy Silicon Valley types, several of whom have blurbed his forthcoming book arguing that civil-rights laws should be dismantled.
Buried in Hanania’s statement responding to Mathias’s reporting is a crucial tell about his ideological project, and why his response is formatted like an apology even though it is not one. “The reason I’m the target of a cancellation effort is because left-wing journalists dislike anyone acknowledging statistical differences between races,” Hanania wrote.
As Hanania knows perfectly well, “acknowledging statistical differences between races” is not a controversial idea on the left. In fact, it’s central to the egalitarianism he opposes. He has elsewhere defined wokeness in part as the idea that “any disparities in outcomes favoring whites over non-whites or men over women are caused by discrimination.” The implication that his critics rightfully find abhorrent is that those statistical differences are biologically determined by race and therefore reflect an inferiority that is inherent and immutable to state interventions. Being coy about this, instead framing the conflict as a liberal reluctance to acknowledge uncomfortable facts, suggests that his views haven’t changed much at all, and that his vague repudiation of them is little more than an attempt to preserve the mainstream credibility he’s accumulated since his days railing against “race mixing” pseudonymously.
