NBC's Steve Kornacki looks at a new NBC poll showing Donald Trump ahead in a head-to-head matchup against Joe Biden by five points, the highest margin he's ever gotten across 16 polls taken regularly since 2019.
Also, here's the 2020 election polling aggregate.

Trump was never once up on Biden* during the entire campaign season. Biden* was up on Trump at least 4 points between September 1st, 2019 and November 3rd, 2020.
Trump will be fine. He will also be your next President.

Donald Trump will try to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court this week to reverse a judicial decision to kick him off the ballot in Colorado over his actions concerning the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, arguing that the constitutional provision his opponents cite does not apply to him.
Trump has repeatedly advanced a bold argument: that he is formally not subject to legal challenges.
A Trump campaign spokesperson pointed to his Jan. 10 social media post stating that a president could not function without "COMPLETE IMMUNITY."

A little-known fact about 6ix's home state of Indiana:
Forty percent of the white men in Indiana were Klan members. Nearly a hundred United States Senators and Representatives were Klansmen. See the book A Fever in the Heartland: The Ku Klux Klan’s Plot to Take Over America, and the Woman Who Stopped Them

I don't know. I'd probably just go with the argument that in order to be guilty of a crime you need to be convicted of a crime and deemed guilty by a jury of your peers. Since this has never happened, nor will it ever happen, because there was no coup and there was no insurrection, what the handful of Democratic Activists in Colorado and Maine have done is not only illegal and unconstitutional, but will likely end up in the termination of all of their careers when the dust settles.
Even high ranking Democrats in California and Illinois know that this is true, so despite similar efforts to take Trump off the ballot they've ruled that Trump will be able to run in their primaries.

It is almost impossible to imagine the United States Senate without Robert Byrd. He was not just its longest serving member. He was it's heart, it's soul and its historian. From my first day in the Senate I sought out his guidance and he was always generous with his time and his wisdom.

Quote:You do realize that is not justice, right? The criminal does not get punished until convicted by a jury, but the criminal was guilty the moment the crime happened. There is no waiting for a court decision. But you keep saying nothing happened. Or what you say happened does NOT look at all like what happened. That is more or less your disordered mind insisting your delusions are real. And how well does living in delusion work for you, 6ix? I just ask because all the Trumptards I know insist they are doing great, but I see how they are living. They are doing poorly, by their choice.

Don't you talk to me about justice, worm.
You're the one advocating for punishing people you don't agree with without a trial. You're the one cheerleading efforts of low-level judges making themselves juries and executioners too.

All Trumps interviews are with FOX and other friendly quistion hacks. Trump hasn't really been tested, and yet he still has made gaffe after gaffe. Biden is president. He is subject to hard questions from the free and fair press, as well as the hack press. Trump can't avoid the hard questions for much longer.
Trumps' trials are going to continue, to end and begin. Other court rulings are about to clear the way for further trials to go forward.
This week we will learn the extent of the penalties in his fraud case. He was found guilty. They are going to be devastating to Trump. The fines will be in the hundreds of millions. They will also be shutting down his New York empire.
It's funny how Jack keeps claiming Trump hasn't been found guilty of anything yet. His businesses have left a trail of convictions since 2016. And he has also been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman. This shows how Jacks' opinions are steeped in deceptions and untruths. That they are not worth giving serious consideration.

Bring on the debates. It will be the most entertaining thing we've seen in years.
That is, if Democrats don't find a way to stop them from happening completely or figure out a way to push Joe* out that wouldn't include trying to run brain-dead Harris in his place.
If you think Biden*'s approval numbers and his standing against Trump in the general election polling aggregate is low now, just wait until pudding brain Biden* has to spend a full hour on stage with Trump.

On a sweltering August day in 1930, a mob stormed the Grant County jail in Marion, Indiana, a town of about 30,000 people, forty miles north of Muncie. Using crowbars and hammers, they ripped the iron doors of a cell from its hinges. Inside, three Black teenagers fell to their knees and prayed for their lives. Deputies fired tear gas at the surge of enraged men, but refused to draw their guns. The sheriff was said to be a former Klansman. Earlier that day, the three prisoners had been accused of killing a white man during a roadside robbery, and raping his girlfriend. One of the teens, Abraham Smith, was dragged into the courtyard, beaten, and stabbed, and then lynched by rope tied to the bars of the upstairs jail. A second young man, J. Thomas Shipp, was hauled to a nearby maple tree. A boisterous crowd that included many women and children chanted, “Kill the n——!” A few Klansmen circulated among the mob, veiled under white robes that had been gathering moths for several years. As the vigilantes were stringing him up, Shipp tried to struggle out of the noose. He was lowered, both of his arms were broken, and then he was pulled high above the ground as his neck snapped. Women laughed and clapped while the life was choked out of Shipp. The atmosphere was festive—like a picnic, one witness recalled.
The third prisoner, James Cameron, a sixteen-year-old who had fled the roadside crime scene before the assault began, was thrown to the ground and beaten. A woman jumped from the top of a car onto him, driving spiked heels into his back. Begging for his life, he said he was innocent. Just as a noose was tightened around his neck came the voice of a prominent white athlete: “Take this boy back. He had nothing to do with any raping or shooting of anybody.” Cameron’s life was spared.
A little while later, Smith’s body was relocated to the maple tree in the town’s main courtyard and hung next to the other dead man. All night, people posed in front of the victims, pointing and smiling for the cameras at the bloodied corpses. The murder in plain sight was the last known lynching of Black people in Indiana and possibly the last north of the Mason-Dixon Line. After dangling in a summer breeze for eight hours, the bodies were cut down by a deputy at dawn. The woman at the roadside robbery scene later said there had been no rape; she had made the story up. Though the leading citizens of Indiana professed outrage and vowed to bring the vigilante killers to justice, a Grant County grand jury refused to issue any indictments. No one was ever charged with a lawless execution witnessed by thousands of Hoosiers in the public square.

Trump and Ukraine
By Gideon Rachman | February 5, 2024
https://www.ft.com/content/18c5296a-f0d5-47d5-aacd-af5210d638fc
There are still many months to go before the US presidential election. But Donald Trump is already having a deeply malign effect on American foreign policy. At Trump’s behest, Republicans in Congress are blocking military aid for Ukraine.
Although the US Senate may agree an aid package this week, Republicans in the House of Representatives remain completely intransigent. As a result, it seems increasingly unlikely that military aid for Ukraine will get through Congress in the coming months — or even this year.
The consequences of that decision could be disastrous. Ukraine is already suffering from a shortage of ammunition — in particular artillery shells. That will become more acute this year, with increasingly dangerous results.
Jack Watling of the Royal United Services Institute, a frequent visitor to the frontline in Ukraine, says the situation there is now “extremely serious”. The ammunition shortage has already led to an increase in Ukrainian casualties. With no certainty about when new supplies of materiel will arrive, the Ukrainian military is finding it impossible to plan future operations.
The shortage of weaponry is also having an effect on the willingness of Ukrainians to volunteer for military service. The mounting pressure on the Kyiv government is part of the explanation for the public falling out between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his commander-in-chief, Valeriy Zaluzhny.
One piece of positive news for Ukraine was last week’s agreement that the EU will provide €50bn in new financial support for the Ukrainian government. In a joint letter to the FT, Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany and four other EU leaders also called for an increase in European military aid.
But European production lines are not yet ready to fill the munitions gap left by the Americans. That will take until at least 2025, and makes the second half of this year potentially very dangerous for Ukraine.
Watling believes that the consequences of the munitions shortage “will initially be felt slowly and then felt fast”. He warns that “when it reaches the point that the consequences are very obvious, it will already be too late”.
Trump and his Republican party supporters do not seem to care. They are apparently prepared to risk a Russian victory — if it even slightly increases Trump’s chance of defeating President Joe Biden in November.
Some of the Republican reluctance to pass new aid for Ukraine is driven by genuine scepticism about the war. But most of the foot-dragging is simply about Trump’s refusal to give Biden anything that looks like a “win” ahead of the presidential election.
Last year, the Republicans demanded that military aid for Ukraine be tied to new measures and money for border security in the US. The Democrats have agreed. But Trump and the Republicans are refusing to take yes for an answer. Trump evidently wants to run on the idea that Biden has presided over chaos and failure — stretching from the southern border to Kabul and Kyiv.
If the freedom of Ukraine and the security of Europe are collateral damage in Trump’s bid to win back the White House, the former president seems to regard that as a price worth paying.
It is even possible that he would welcome a Ukrainian defeat — if it came in time for the presidential election and enabled him to bash home his favourite claims about the Biden administration’s weakness and failure.
Of course, Trump could not do any of this on his own. The connivance of Republicans in Congress is critical. Trump’s victories in the presidential primaries have persuaded most Republicans — always feeble in their opposition to him — that they need to fall in line even more slavishly. If he continues to demand that no aid for Ukraine goes through Congress, Republicans in the House of Representatives will almost certainly deliver for him.

Does FT stand for the Fictional Times now?
This has nothing to do with Trump. Ukraine aid is tied directly to the so-called "border bill" that has nothing to do with securing the US Border.
Maybe if Democrats and their media lapdogs stopped spending so much time lying to us and actually served the American People instead, they could get a bill passed.

How about your Guy and your Party start serving the American People and trying to fix all the shit they broke in the last 3 years and I dunno... maybe win an election in November on merit.
If you did that, you'd have at least 4 more years to put Trump in prison for your made up bullshit.
Your fear is delicious. You know you're about to lose.

February 5, 2024, 5:58PM ET - Nikki Haley is requesting Secret Service protection as Donald Trump amps up his character attacks and threats against her increase, according to a new report.
Haley, the last opponent standing in a once-crowded Republican presidential nomination race, confirmed to the Wall Street Journal she’s faced "multiple issues."
Last month, Haley’s home was swatted.
The threats arrive as Trump ramps up attacks against Haley, which news analysts at NPR characterize as racist. Those attacks include suggesting Haley could not run because her parents were not U.S. citizens and mocking her birth name, Nimarata Nikki Randhawa, NPR notes.

Ask Trump or a Trumptard if they are mentally unstable and they will assure you they are completely nuts.

Trump’s legal arguments for staying on the ballot are embarrassingly weak
It’s hard to imagine this Supreme Court (with six Trumptard justices) removing Trump from the ballot. But his lawyers gave the justices very little to work with.
On Thursday, the Court will hear oral arguments in Trump v. Anderson, the case asking whether Colorado’s highest court was right to remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot.

Yesterday Trump wrote that he would be throwing Biden in jail if the Supreme Court does not give Trump immunity:
"IF IMMUNITY IS NOT GRANTED TO A PRESIDENT, EVERY PRESIDENT THAT LEAVES OFFICE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY INDICTED BY THE OPPOSING PARTY," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Monday night.
"WITHOUT COMPLETE IMMUNITY, A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY FUNCTION!"

Yesterday Trump made it very obvious he should not be President.
But how many voters will notice Trump made that clear?

On the Border, Republicans Set a Trap, Then Fell Into It
Feb. 6, 2024, Updated 2:05 p.m. ET
Congressional Republicans thought they had set a clever trap for Democrats that would accomplish complementary political and policy goals.
Their idea was to tie approval of military assistance to Ukraine to tough border security demands that Democrats would never accept, allowing Republicans to block the money for Kyiv that many of them oppose while simultaneously enabling them to pound Democrats for refusing to halt a surge of migrants at the border. It was to be a win-win headed into November’s elections.
But Democrats tripped them up by offering substantial — almost unheard-of — concessions on immigration policy without insisting on much in return. Now it is Republicans who are rapidly abandoning a compromise that gave them much of what they wanted, leaving aid to Ukraine in deep jeopardy, border policy in turmoil and Congress again flailing as multiple crises at home and abroad go without attention because of a legislative stalemate.
The turn of events led to a remarkable Capitol Hill spectacle this week as a parade of Senate Republicans almost instantly repudiated a major piece of legislation they had spent months demanding as part of any agreement to provide more help to a beleaguered Ukraine. Even Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the minority leader and foremost Republican advocate of helping Ukraine, and Senator James Lankford, the Oklahoma Republican who invested months in cutting the border deal, suggested they would vote to block it on the floor in a test vote set for Wednesday.
It left Senate Republicans, who had mainly avoided the chaos that has consumed House Republicans for the past two years, looking more like their counterparts across the rotunda, rocked by division, finger-pointing and even calls from the far right for new leadership.
Senator James Lankford, Republican of Oklahoma, invested months helping to craft the border deal.
“A year ago they said, ‘We need a change in the law,’” said Mr. Lankford, frustrated by his Republican colleagues who had been up in arms about the border situation only to suddenly reject the new legislation. “Now the conversation is, ‘Just kidding, we don’t need a change in the law. We just need the president to use the laws they already have.’ That wasn’t where we were before.”
“Just gobsmacked,” Senator Brian Schatz, Democrat of Hawaii, wrote on social media. “I’ve never seen anything like it. They literally demanded specific policy, got it, and then killed it.”
As they sought to rationalize their anticipated decision to mount a filibuster against legislation they had called for, Republicans said they needed more time to digest the bill and perhaps be allowed to propose some changes. But those seemed mainly like excuses. Additional time is unlikely to be a friend of the bill as the politics surrounding it grow more volatile with the approach of this year’s elections. In past immigration fights, failed procedural votes typically doomed the effort.
Mr. Trump trashed the bipartisan proposal quickly after it was rolled out, and senators who embraced it risked running afoul of him and his supporters. Mr. Trump sees border turmoil — and the motivation it provides to conservative voters — as one of his biggest political advantages. As President Biden

Trump should not get immunity, 2 out of 3 Americans say
Feb 6, 2024 4:00 PM EST
A majority of Republicans – 68 percent – said Trump should be granted immunity for his actions. White evangelical Christians and people who voted for Trump in the 2020 election were among the ex-president’s most ardent supporters on this question. In addition to Trump’s legal team arguing in the courtroom that he deserves immunity, Trump has often made the same claim on the campaign trail.
The poll showed that 91 percent of Democrats and 65 percent of independents think Trump should not be insulated from accountability for actions he took while president.

In news that will infuriate tax cheating Trump and his supporters:
IRS expects to collect hundreds of billions more in unpaid taxes thanks to new funding
Feb 6, 2024, 6:26 PM EST
WASHINGTON (AP) — The IRS is poised to take in hundreds of billions of dollars more in overdue and unpaid taxes than previously anticipated, according to new analysis released Tuesday by the Treasury Department and the IRS.
Tax revenues are expected to rise by as much as $561 billion from 2024 to 2034, thanks to stepped-up enforcement made possible with money from the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, which became law in August 2022.
Ensuring that people actually pay their taxes is one of the tax collection agency’s biggest challenges. The audit rate of millionaires fell by more than 70 percent from 2010 to 2019 and the audit rate on large corporations fell by more than 50 percent, Treasury’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tax Analysis Greg Leiserson told reporters. IRA funding “is enabling the IRS to reverse this trend,” Leiserson said.
The tax gap — which is the difference between taxes owed and taxes paid — has grown to more than $600 billion annually, according to the IRS.

The justices — in the midst of internal scandal and public scorn — would risk too much by endorsing states’ controversial decisions to remove the former president from ballots, particularly given how difficult it would be to enforce any ruling knocking Trump out of ballot counts nationwide. The outcome of the case is a near certainty — the U.S. Supreme Court will overrule the Colorado Supreme Court, which in December determined that Trump is disqualified from the state’s ballot. The route the U.S. Supreme Court will take to reach that conclusion is not, and the court’s reasoning will make all the difference.

On one hand, Trump won't pay his taxes and won't collect other people's taxes.
On the other hand, Biden invested big in more tax audits. A new IRS analysis claims it’s working.
A fully funded IRS would bring in twice as much money as they previously thought, a Treasury report finds.
By Dylan Matthews | Feb 7, 2024, 7:00am EST
In 2021, Americans owed about $625 billion in taxes that they never paid. This number, called the “tax gap,” represented some 13.7 percent of all taxes due, and, had it been collected, it would have reduced the deficit by nearly one-quarter.
Getting more of that number collected is naturally an obsession of many tax and budget experts. It represents a way to fund government programs without raising taxes, adding to the deficit, or making other cuts. Deals like that can feel as rare as unicorns in the tax world. Funding the IRS in an effort to reduce the tax gap was one of the key ways Democrats funded their climate subsidies in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022.
The question is what share of that $625 billion could be realistically recovered. Even a perfectly resourced Internal Revenue Service would, after all, miss some tax evasion and misreporting. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the IRS funding in the IRA would raise an average of $20.3 billion a year over 10 years, a small fraction of the $625 billion gap. For years, though, some economists have been vocally arguing that better enforcement could raise much, much more than that.
A new report released by the Treasury Department on Tuesday argues that those economists had a point, that we have been understating the revenue this new IRS funding will bring in. They argue that it will bring in over $170 billion more than they previously thought over an 11-year window and that, if Congress extends this funding for the IRS, the ultimate revenue gain could be more than double initial estimates.
The takeaway is that investing in the IRS could, if this study is accurate, be a better deal than we thought.

Senator Markwayne Mullin just disclosed a purchase of stock in a company called Badger Meter.
Badger Meter produces automated water meter technology.
The EPA recently passed a mandate requiring utilities to upgrade to new automated water meters.
Mullin sits on the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
Tulsa, Oklahoma just announced that they will be spending $94M to upgrade their meters.
Markwayne Mullin represents the state of Oklahoma.
We’ll keep an eye out to see how much federal money goes to Badger Meter.

It is great when Republican Senators become richer from secrets they learn once they are Senators. Senators are paid $174,000 per annum, but Markwayne is hustling on the stock market to make even more.
https://www.senate.gov/senators/SenateSalariesSince1789.htm
At the end of 2021, Markwayne's reported assets increased to a range of $31.6 million to $75.6 million, compared to a range of $7.3 million to $29.9 million at the end of 2020. Markwayne knows how to make a fast buck now that he is in Congress. Markwayne supports making abortion illegal in all circumstances, including cases of rape, incest, or if the mother's life is at risk. During the 2022 Republican runoff debate, he claimed that if his wife's life were at risk during a pregnancy, neither he nor his wife would want to get an abortion. Trump should pick Markwayne for his Vice-President.

170 Billion / 11 = $15,454,545,455
$15.5 Billion per year additional is not double $20.3 Billion per year. $15.5 Billion is 76.62% of $20.3 Billion. $35.8 Billion per year is 177% of $20.3 Billion.

The additional $15.5 Billion they (might be able to) catch per year over the next 11 years is only 2.48% of the alleged $625 Billion they currently miss every year.
This is because they will not be spending any time going after rich people and corporations and that will be used to go after the lowest quintile and making sure that people are paying taxes on anything they sell on eBay and Etsy.

Your Vox article that you posted just disproved your point, dummy.
Their calculation is an additional $15.5 Billion per year over the next 11 years, which is 2.48% of the $625 Billion per year they currently miss. $15.5 Billion per year is not hundreds of billions per year.
They're not getting that 2.48% from the 1%. It's much easier to go after all the additional taxes they created by lowering online transactions through eBay to only $600 per year from $20,000 per year, and trying to ruin the lives of as many people who could never afford lengthy legal battles.

Baytown, Texas, where I live, has a high school and junior college named after Robert E. Lee. The local Republicans cherish the memory of that traitor and will vote for Trump, another traitor.
W.E.B. Du Bois offered the most brutal critique of Robert E. Lee's moral cowardice ever written.
https://kevinmlevin.substack.com/p/web-dubois-on-robert-e-lee
Robert E. Lee
March 1928
Each year on the 19th of January there is renewed effort to canonize Robert E. Lee, the great confederate general. His personal comeliness, his aristocratic birth and his military prowess all call for the verdict of greatness and genius. But one thing—one terrible fact—militates against this and that is the inescapable truth that Robert E. Lee led a bloody war to perpetuate human slavery. Copperheads like the New York Times may magisterially declare: “of course, he never fought for slavery”. Well, for what did he fight? State rights? Nonsense. The South cared only for State Rights as a weapon to defend slavery. If nationalism had been a stronger defense of the slave system than particularism, the South would have been as nationalist in 1861 as it had been in 1812.
No. People do not go to war for abstract theories of government. They fight for property and privilege and that was what Virginia fought for in the Civil War. And Lee followed Virginia. He followed Virginia not because he particularly loved slavery (although he certainly did not hate it), but because he did not have the moral courage to stand against his family and his clan. Lee hesitated and hung his head in shame because he was asked to lead armies against human progress and Christian decency and did not dare refuse. He surrendered not to Grant, but to Negro Emancipation.
Today we can best perpetuate his memory and his nobler traits, not by falsifying his moral debacle, but by explaining it to the young white South. What Lee did in 1861, other Lees are doing in 1928. They lack the moral courage to stand up for justice to the Negro because of the overwhelming public opinion of their social environment. Their fathers in the past have condoned lynching and mob violence, just as today they acquiesce in the disfranchisement of educated and worthy black citizens, provide wretchedly inadequate public schools for Negro children and endorse a public treatment of sickness, poverty and crime which disgraces civilization.
It is the punishment of the South that its Robert Lees and Jefferson Davises will always be tall, handsome and well-born. That their courage will be physical and not moral. That their leadership will be weak compliance with public opinion and never costly and unswerving revolt for justice and right. It is ridiculous to seek to excuse Robert Lee as the most formidable agency this nation ever raised to make 4 million human beings goods instead of men. Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel—not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God.

Quote:
Of particular note,
The Democratic Party's wide lead over Republicans in Black Americans’ party preferences has shrunk by nearly 20 points over the past three years.
Democrats' leads among Hispanic adults and adults aged 18 to 29 have slid nearly as much, resulting in Democrats' holding only a modest edge among both groups.
Whereas Democrats were at parity with Republicans among men as recently as 2009, and among non-college-educated adults as recently as 2019, they are now in the red with both groups.
No shit? I'm right again. Imagine that, huh?
My advice would be to stop insulting people who didn't get college degrees every day. You're also losing the Union vote, which is of extreme importance to the longevity of your party and which is also made up of primarily men who did not get college degrees.
(Almost) nobody likes to be a cuck... Except for your Zoomer generation male voters.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden sidestepped any criminal charges as the investigation into his handling of classified documents concluded, but the political blowback from the special counsel’s report Thursday could prove even more devastating, reinforcing impressions that he is too old and impaired to hold the highest office.
Special counsel Robert Hur’s portrait of a man who couldn’t remember when he served as Barack Obama’s vice president, or the year when his beloved son Beau died, dealt a blow to Biden’s argument that he is still sharp and fit enough to serve another four-year term.
DOJ: "Biden* is guilty as fuck, but we're not going to bust him because he's a pudding brained fuckup who can't finish a thought without drooling all over himself."

The truth has a liberal bias
By Kevin Drum | February 8, 2024 – 3:40 pm
https://jabberwocking.com/the-truth-has-a-liberal-bias/
Tyler Cowen points today to a 2021 study that investigates whether liberals or conservatives are more likely to believe viral misinformation. The researchers removed their own bias by using a third-party service to track the 20 most viral news stories (ten true and ten false) on a biweekly basis. At the same time they surveyed Americans one week after the viral stories to see which ones they believed. The results were dramatically clear: liberals believed fewer of the viral lies (24% to 61%) and more of the viral truths (80% to 70%):
Part of the reason for this difference is simple: true statements were overwhelmingly associated with the left (65% to 10%) while false statements were more associated with the right (46% to 23%):
Liberals had an easier time accepting true statements because true statements generally benefit their side. Conversely, conservatives are more susceptible to lies because lies generally benefit their side. But there's more: liberals were considerably more likely to accept even inconvenient statements than conservatives. Conservatives had a much stronger tendency to judge truth and falsehood simply by how much a statement benefited or harmed them.
Here is the authors' conclusion:
This study provides the most rigorous evidence to date that U.S. conservatives are uniquely susceptible to political misperceptions in the current sociopolitical environment. Data were collected over 6 months in 2019 and reflect Americans’ beliefs about hundreds of political topics. The topics were selected on the basis of social media engagement, suggesting that these are the very issues that Americans were most likely to encounter online. Analyses suggest that conservatism is associated with a lesser ability to distinguish between true and false claims across a wide range of political issues and with a tendency to believe that all claims are true.
The results are consistent across the board: conservatives are simply less connected to reality than liberals. And keep in mind that this study was conducted in 2019, before Stop the Steal and COVID had turned conservative brains entirely into tapioca.

Former President Donald Trump recently told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that if he’s reelected, he will impose tariffs of a staggering 60 percent — or more — on Chinese imports, signaling a plan to escalate the trade war with China that defined his time in office.
If he were to win a second term, he promises much of the same, with tariffs on imports as the centerpiece of his economic policy. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen last month warned that such a plan would increase the cost of goods for Americans whose budgets have been pummeled by inflation.
We know of Donald Trump as a kind of “cut taxes and raise tariffs” kind of a guy. This time his main campaign promise is on the tariff front. He calls himself Tariff Man, and he has this plan to increase tariffs across the board in the US.
What Trump wants to do is effectively triple the average rate of tariffs. He also wants to retaliate against countries with particularly high tariffs on American products by raising the American tariffs to the same height. And this could have a pretty detrimental impact on trade. Trade wars are never very good for the economy.

Dem Calls for 25th Amendment Against Trump Come Back To Haunt

5th_amendment_against_trump_come_back_to_haunt_150474.html
Quote:
In October 2020, before Joe Biden was elected president and three months before Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a press conference. She was touting a bill to create a bipartisan commission that could determine a sitting president’s ability to carry out the duties of the office.
The original bill’s author was Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat and former constitutional lawyer who would go on to lead the second Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump. In Pelosi’s eerily portentous remarks, she said the measure wasn’t explicitly aimed at Trump, but his mental health “reminded” Democrats of why such a commission was needed.
“This is not about President Trump. He will face the judgment of the voters, but he knows the need for us to create a process for future presidents,” she said. “This legislation applies to future presidents, but we are reminded of the necessity of action by the health of the current president.”
The measure would have augmented the 25th Amendment, which provides procedures for transferring power to the vice president in case of the president’s death, incapacitation, removal, or resignation. It would set up a commission of 16 members chosen by Democrats and Republicans, who are medical experts or former high-ranking executive branch officials such as former members of a president’s Cabinet. The commission’s members would then select a 17th member, who would serve as chairperson.
Pelosi and many Democrats regularly raised the issue of the 25th Amendment during Trump’s tenure as president, more as a way to question his judgment and mental acuity amid the 45th U.S. president’s furious Twitter rants and frequent acts of retribution and name-calling.

When Biden forgot Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's name, he did the next best thing and called him the "President of Mexico".
I wonder if the press was as perplexed as I was trying to follow the manure coming out of Biden*'s mouth, or if after 3 years of having to deal with this shit they know what he's talking about like a dental hygienist learns to understand what people are saying when they're in the chair and they've got a bunch of shit in their mouths.

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" reacts very negatively to special counsel Robert Hur's report declining to prosecute President Joe Biden for mishandling classified documents.
"It certainly seems like a politically charged document," Scarborough said. "It used to be, pre-James Comey, you would either indict somebody or not indict somebody. But now in the political sphere... He didn't have any evidence."
Scarborough blasts Hur's decision to comment on President Biden's mental state, calling him a "neurologist from Trump University."
"So many people immediately heard thee random, irrelevant conclusions, politically-charged Trump-like ramblings. I wonder, why in the world he would put that in the report, his neurological assessment of Joe Biden? And secondly, why Merrick Garland would release garbage like that at the Justice Department," Scarborough said. "Because it sure sounds like James Comey in 2016 who couldn't indict Hillary Clinton legally so he decided to hold a press conference and indict her politically."
"I'm a simple country lawyer and I know... the headline from this report should be Not Indicted," Scarborough roared. "Do you think this guy is so stupid and clueless that he didn't know by putting words in Donald Trump would love for him to put in there, it wasn't going to be the headline? So why in the world would the Justice Department allow that to be in there? It's gratuitous and bad faith."
These are all your guys, as was James Comey.
Maybe instead of blaming everything you don't agree with on Trump and demonizing people who vote for him you could actually do your fucking job and get to the bottom of why there seems to be one powerful voice behind the scenes that controls both parties, the entire media narrative, and just who exactly your and Mika's actual employers are when "your job is to control what people think."
They've decided that your boy Joe* is out. You just had a CNN reporter make Joe* start yelling yesterday when she kept asking him if maybe he shouldn't be the choice for the Democrat party in November because he isn't fit for office.
So who's in? Gavin Newsom? Michelle Obama?

Who Will Tell The People? | February 8, 2024
https://andrewtobias.com/who-will-tell-the-people/
Every so often there is a piece of legislation on Capitol Hill that defines America and its values — that shows what kind of country we want to be. I would argue that when it comes to the $118.3 billion bipartisan compromise bill in the Senate to repair our broken immigration system and supply vital aid to Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel, its passage or failure won’t define just America but also the world that we’re going to inhabit.
There are hinges in history, and this is one of them. What Washington does — or does not do — this year to support its allies and secure our border will say so much about our approach to security and stability in this new post-post-Cold War era. Will America carry the red, white and blue flag into the future or just a white flag? Given the pessimistic talk coming out of the Capitol, it is looking more and more like the white flag, autographed by Donald Trump.
Barring some last-minute surprise that saves the compromise bill, a terrible thing is about to happen, thanks largely to a Republican Party that has lost its way as it falls in lock step behind a man whose philosophy is not “America First” but “Donald Trump First.” “Trump First” means that a bill that would strengthen America and its allies must be set aside so that America can continue to boil in polarization, Vladimir Putin can triumph in Ukraine and our southern border can remain an open sore — until and unless Trump becomes president once more. Our allies be damned. Our enemies be emboldened. Our children’s future security be mortgaged.
Today’s G.O.P. bumper sticker: Trump First. Putin Second. America Third.
. . .
Who will tell the people that America is the tent pole that holds up the world? If we let that pole disintegrate, your kids won’t grow up in just a different America; they’ll grow up in a different world, and a much worse one.
After Ukraine inflicted a terrible defeat on the Russian Army — thanks to U.S. and NATO funding and weapons — without costing a single American soldier’s life, Putin now has to be licking his chops at the thought that we will walk away from Ukraine, leaving him surely counting the days until Kyiv’s missile stocks run out and he will own the skies. Then it’s bombs away.
. . .
Yes, America still has considerable power, but that power led to influence because allies and enemies knew we were ready to use it to defend ourselves and help our friends defend themselves and our shared values. All of that will now be in doubt if this bill goes down for good.
Remember this week, folks — because historians surely will.

According to Politico, the big Republican pushback against Bidenomics is that, sure, inflation is lower, but the price of food hasn't gone down. For the record, this hasn't happened a single time in the past 50 years:
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/02/09/republicans-bash-biden-econom
y-00140560
https://jabberwocking.com/whats-left-for-republicans-to-complain-about
-the-economy/
Food prices never go down. Sometimes they only go up a little bit—as in 2010 and 2016—but never down.
Now, I get it. GDP growth is strong. Unemployment is low. Wages are rising. Inflation is under control. The prime-age labor participation rate has been above the Trump peak for four consecutive quarters. Investment has been at record highs for ten consecutive quarters. Construction is booming.
So what's left, other than food prices, to complain about? Poverty was up in 2022, but obviously Republicans don't want to talk about that.
So all that's left is to invent something about food. And the Republicans have.

Special counsel Robert Hur's obviously partisan report on President Biden has raised a question: why are special counsels always Republicans?
And they really are all Republicans. In the past 30 years not a single Democrat — or even someone with "Democratic ties" — has been a special counsel or independent prosecutor.
It's no mystery why this is. Democrats appoint Republicans to show they're bending over backward to be fair. Republicans don't care about that, so they appoint Republicans too. Result: it's always Republicans.
See also FBI directors. No Democrat has headed the FBI since the day it was created.

Today on TAP: The Supreme Court finds several reasons not to keep Trump off the ballot.

Honestly, I didn't even want the SC to weigh in on this. If it was a party line split, which I suspected that it would be, all that was going to do was make the political split among voters in this country even worse than it already has grown since Obama took office.
It was completely unnecessary for them to take it up in regards to Trump winning in November anyhow, since only Democrat run shitholes were going to keep Trump off the ballot and he wasn't going to get any of those electoral votes anyhow. I was actually looking forward to the prospect of Trump beating Biden* in November when he was only on the ballot in 40 of the states.
But it looks like this might actually end up being a bi-partisan decision.
Of the three possible outcomes, this would be the best one for the country.
Now that they have taken it up, I do hope that the Left appointed judges make the correct decision here for the good of our country going forward.

So, to the reality of voting...
We got our ballots in the mail today, and I spent a good part of the afternoon going over the ballot ... including judgeships! (Fortunately there is a website that not only lists the LACounty Bar Assoc rating- not qualified, qualified, and well qualified- but also has links to each candidate's website.
Strained my brain over a state measure that's about half good and half bad.
In this open primary I get to choose between Dems, Repubs, some candidates who choose not to state a part preference, and there is a space for write-in candidates. (None of the minor parties like Peace and Freedom appeared on the ballot but there is that write-in!)
But the very first statement by the very first listed candidate for Senate convinced me to vote for him, even tho he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell.
"Money is not speech and corporations aren't people"
Either way, it's gonna be Peter "shifty" Schiff and Steve "loose cannon" Garvey. But at least I get to vote for someone I like in the primaries!

That "Corporations aren't people" is important.
I don't know when the hell it was decided that Corporations are protected by the 1st Amendment, but that shit needs to go to the Supreme Court and get thrown out.

Per the report Biden isn’t going to be charged and is a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory’’ and that “mistakes when packing documents” are “unfortunately a common occurrence.”
It also noted that Trump did the opposite of what Biden did and has been legitimately charged, tending to imply that Trump is a resentful, vindictive, lying old prick who commits crimes on purpose. Discerning voters will spot this about Trump, as a politically astute judge expects.

Washington Examiner: Do Democrats have a Plan B — B not for Biden?
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/2847828/do-democrats-have-a
-plan-b-b-not-for-biden/
Quote:
Special Counsel Robert Hurr’s report concluded that President Joe Biden should not be prosecuted for mishandling classified documents because he is an “elderly man with a poor memory.” A confident and competent Biden could have laughed off an outlying report, not even bothering to acknowledge its existence.
But the problem for Biden and his hopes of reelection is that Hurr’s conclusions are not anomalous. The president has a well-established record of embarrassing and disturbing mental lapses.
There was a time when he couldn’t remember the name of his own secretary of defense, just weeks after moving into the office.
And a time he made up getting arrested at a civil rights protest, a mistake White House aides were forced to correct afterward.
And a time he made up going to the Tree of Life synagogue after a shooting, which, again, White House aides were forced to correct.
And a time Biden repeatedly called for Indiana Rep. Jackie Walorski to join him at the podium for a nutrition event — eight weeks after she had died in a car crash.

Mr. Biden’s performance at his news conference on Thursday night was intended to assure the public that his memory is fine and argue that Mr. Hur was out of line; instead, the president raised more questions about his cognitive sharpness and temperament, as he delivered emotional and snappish retorts in a moment when people were looking for steady, even and capable responses to fair questions about his fitness.
CNN: Biden’s allies can’t agree on how to combat questions about his age and memory
https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/09/politics/countering-biden-age-question/

Inside the White House and among Biden’s reelection campaign staff, the tension is constant. Top aides have set the strategy that the president need not play the Washington news cycle game of constant appearances that risk embarrassing flubs, while others complain that this unfortunately reinforces the image put forward by his political opponents that he is barely bumbling through his days.
Biden is constantly caught coming off “stilted,” and looking “like a caricature,” complained one sympathetic former West Wing aide, who asked not to be named to speak bluntly about the situation.
“Some of the folks around him create this weird bubble because they’re trying to be protective, but they’ve got him so anxious he makes mistakes,” the former aide said.
USA Today: Special counsel says Biden is 'elderly man with a poor memory.' And he's the Democrats' guy?
The special counsel's report is no doubt humiliating to Joe Biden, but it is very pertinent information that the American people should be aware of months ahead of the 2024 election.

The clear evidence of mishandling classified documents is embarrassing enough. But there’s something even more damning to President Joe Biden in special counsel Robert Hur’s new report released Thursday.
It’s this: “We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
Ouch. It sounds like how you might refer to your grandpa at the nursing home.
For Biden’s already tenuous standing in the polls, this will not be helpful in convincing an already doubtful public that the 81-year-old is still up to the task of president – let alone for four more years.

Yeah. Why would any minorities vote for Democrats? Democrats policies that are running the economy and the nation in general tend to have the most negative impact on the minorities that they only court when it's election time and then completely forget about.
Let's just say you'd still better not drink the fucking water in Flint, Michigan if living until the next election cycle is something on your bucket list.
These people aren't fucking cattle. Democrats have lost them for at least a generation because they couldn't stop treating them as if they were.

This is beyond mere malapropisms. Biden* is hidden by his administration at every opportunity possible and until very recently had been shielded relentlessly by the media for it.
Now that the media is obviously turning on him because the fix is in and they fully intend to replace him and Harris before the November election, just as I've been telling you was their plan LONG before the events late this week unfolded, everybody is going to see just how bad Biden* really is.

Why I changed my mind and think Trump should be thrown off the ballot
I thought it would be best for the country to have him go down to defeat again in a free and fair election. Keeping him on the ballot so voters could decide was the path to long-term institutional stability and might finally force a reckoning in the Republican Party. But the record is clear that the legislators who wrote and enacted the amendment in the wake of the Civil War were not just thinking of the Confederacy’s leaders but also of “the leaders of any rebellion hereafter to come.”
Those are the words of John B. Henderson, a Republican senator from Missouri, when he cast his vote for the amendment in 1866. They are recorded in a powerful amicus brief filed with the Supreme Court by a distinguished group of historians of the era: Jill Lepore, David Blight, Drew Gilpin Faust and John Fabian Witt.
The amendment’s authors, they argue, “hoped not only to prevent a resurgence of secessionism but also to protect future generations against insurrectionism.” It was intended “to bar anyone who has betrayed an oath to uphold the Constitution from becoming President of the United States.”
They back up these assertions with a compelling 34-page account of what the framers of the amendment intended and why they wrote it as they did. The essay should encourage conservatives on the Supreme Court, which hears the case on Thursday, to ponder words they love: “originalism” and “textualism.”

I win either way in November. Trump wins and we start righting the ship, or Biden* wins and things keep getting worse for everyone else and woke DEI ideology continues to die.
People as a group tend to put up with a LOT of bullshit when life is good and they're not worried about a roof over their head or a meal on their table. Three years of Democrats taking that away from everybody has certainly changed a lot of attitudes.
Want a non-Hollywood example? Just wait until "Pride Month" this year. You won't hear a single fucking mention of it by DJ's or during commercial breaks, and Coldplay's People of the Pride won't play once the entire month when all of that was inescapable just 2 summers ago.

Trumptards are not favored in the eyes of the Lord. The story of Trump and Trumptard family triumphing in America like Noah triumphed in the movie Noah won't be happening. Noah didn't exist and Democrats do and will continue. More likely is that Trumptards will drown in a sea of their bad daily decisions about how to prosper in America.

Donald Trump's Nato comments labelled ‘appalling and unhinged’
And so it begins. Nine months still to go before the next US presidential election and already the Republican party favourite and former President Donald Trump is sending eyes rolling skywards with his outlandish statements.
And yet they will delight many of his supporters.
Nato Secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg responded forcefully, saying: "Any suggestion that allies will not defend each other undermines all of our security, including that of the US, and puts American and European soldiers at increased risk."

Judge in Trump defamation trial reminds jurors that Trump is a vindictive asshole
"My advice to you is that you never disclose that you were on this jury, and I won't say anything more about it," Kaplan said after the verdict was read. "And I won't say anything more about it."
Kaplan's suggestion is not entirely out of the ordinary, many judges advise jurors that while they can speak to the media after high-profile trials it may not be in the best interest to do so. But Trump is far from a typical defendant even by the celebrity-trial standard. He has repeatedly shown he will attack judges and even their staff if he perceives them as being unfair to his cause.
Kaplan repeatedly had to advise Trump and his lawyers to maintain proper behavior throughout the trial. Trump and his lawyers and his voters are assholes. That is why life is strife for them.

The Supreme Court Is Not Going to Save Us From Donald Trump
The justices have made clear that they do not think the 14th Amendment disqualifies Trump from running for office. That means there’s only one way to stop him—at the ballot box.

ave-us-from-trump/
No shit, you dumb motherfuckers.
Quote:
Kagan wasn’t buying Murray’s wishcasting though, and neither was Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Jackson echoed all of Kagan’s concerns, but added one other: that the president is not an “officer” as defined by the 14th Amendment. I was, frankly, shocked when Jackson started to push this point. The “not an officer” argument is ridiculous. It’s an idea that the Colorado trial court latched onto (the trial court found Trump to be an insurrectionist, but kept him on the ballot; the Colorado State Supreme Court overruled that and barred Trump from seeking office) to avoid kicking Trump off the ballot, and something that conservatives have since bandied about as a potential way out for the court. Jackson has already established herself as the most “textualist” justice on the liberal side of the bench, the one most eager to go toe-to-toe with Neil Gorsuch into the trenches of the Oxford English Dictionary and the original meaning of the Magna Carta. But she generally avoids playing pedantic word games as if the entire Constitution were a New York Times crossword puzzle waiting to be solved. Unlike Gorsuch, she never misses the forest for the trees.
But she did yesterday.
TRANSLATION: WHAT???? SHE'S ONE OF US!!!!!! HOW DARE SHE DISAGREE WITH ME?????? REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Get fucked, Elie. You whiny little bitch.
If all of you two-digit-IQ morons didn't buy all of this bullshit the media was spinning the past 3 years, you wouldn't be so let down by the fact that the Supreme Court, including all 3 liberal Justices, aren't going to shit all over the Constitution just because you don't like the opposition.
SPOILER ALERT: They're doing your stupid ass a favor. They're making sure that when the event transpires that Republicans are running everything again that they can't pull the same bullshit you're trying to pull right now.
They're not saving you from Trump. That's not their fucking job.
They're saving morons like you from yourselves.
Quote:
I’ve said repeatedly that there is no way in hell the Supreme Court would allow the likely Republican nominee to be stricken from the ballot. I’ve said repeatedly that courts and judges simply do not have the strength and courage to end Trump’s presidential campaign as a matter of law. I’ve said repeatedly that the only way to be rid of him is to defeat him at the ballot box, again, and beat back his forces who will try to steal the election, again.
Well then.... Keep fucking saying it.
I don't think anybody is listening to you though. Nobody wants Joe Biden* back in office for another 4 years.
Democrats ruined the lives of the lower quintile in only 3 fast years. You're going to see more blacks and Latinos vote against Democrats in November than in any election in history.
They FUCKED the kids. YOU fucked the kids. An entire generation of kids are going to be fucked for life after the school lockdowns and shelter at home bullshit you were cheerleading.
Most of America hates Democrats and people like you.
You need to break yourself out of that bubble you've been living in. Your hivemind of upper class Democrat asslickers are disgusting to everybody outside of your bubble.

Trump is probably right about Ukraine. It was a mistake for Biden to partially tie his electoral fate to a dumb-ass in Ukraine. Putin being dumber than Zelensky might save the situation for Biden.
This is what happens when Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, a comedian turned politician, turns into a general:
Brig. Gen. Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of the Tavriya group of forces in Avdiivka, announced the reinforcement on Telegram on Saturday. “We strengthen the blocking line, set up additional firing positions and use fresh effective forces,” Tarnavskyi wrote. “Logistical delivery continues.”
That the Ukrainians would reinforce Avdiivka was not a foregone conclusion. In apparently choosing to stay and fight, Ukrainian forces are accepting enormous risk.
After four months of hard fighting, Russian troops from the 2nd and 41st Combined Arms Armies finally breached Avdiivka — a key Ukrainian stronghold just five miles northwest of Russian-occupied Donetsk — earlier this month and approached within a few hundred yards of the main road by which the Ukrainian garrison, centered on the 110th Mechanized Brigade, gets supplies into the city.
At that point, Tarnavskyi had two options. Pull back the 110th Brigade’s survivors from the exposed eastern part of the city and consolidate the Ukrainian line in central Avdiivka or just outside the city, to the west.
Or: reinforce the 110th Brigade and try to push the much larger Russian force away from the garrison’s supply lines.
It’s possible it wasn’t Tarnavskyi’s decision to make.
Last week, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky removed his popular top general, the charismatic Valery Zaluzhny, and replaced him with the unpopular former head of the ground forces, Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Zaluzhny has a reputation — deserved or not — for embracing a mobile defense in order to minimize Ukrainian casualties. Syrskyi by contrast has a reputation — again, deserved or not — for accepting high casualties in stubborn, static fights.
It’s possible that, in promoting Syrskyi, Zelensky signaled his intention to fight for Avdiivka. Even at high cost.
