Donald Trump's Truth Social (stock symbol DJT) just gets scammier and scammier

https://jabberwocking.com/truth-social-just-gets-scammier-and-scammier/

Yesterday Truth Social had 136 million shares outstanding at a closing price of $32.57. Today, after Trump met the terms for a payout of 36 million new shares, they effectively have 172 million shares outstanding at a closing price of $35.67.

So in one day, in which nothing happened, the paper value of the company went from $4.4 billion to $6.1 billion. That's an increase of nearly 40% in an already valueless company for no reason whatsoever.

You'd be dismayed to know that 99% of Americans, despite years' worth of opportunities to learn, still are not aware that Trump is crazy, stupid, and dangerous. For one example of Trump's dismaying behavior from last week that was discussed today:

The inherent absurd comedy of these exchanges aside, this is serious stuff. The most egregious Trump post was something the former president put on Truth Social last week after the first two days of jury selection. In it, he went after jurors, which is just about the biggest no-no in the U.S. court system, even if you don’t have millions of rabid fans, some of whom have already demonstrated their willingness to commit crimes at your behest.

The concerns about witness intimidation are very real. Multiple jurors backed out at the last possible moment prior to being seated, and one even did so after being seated. Another juror tried to back out on Monday and was apparently convinced to stay on. Each of the past two days I’ve been in the court, jurors have tended to stare straight ahead without looking at Trump, even though they enter and exit the courtroom by walking right by him. How could they not be intimidated by a man who holds the loudest platform in the country and is willing to use it?

More than 150,000 Republicans voted for Nikki Haley in Pa.’s presidential primary

More than 16% of the state’s GOP electorate supported the former South Carolina governor over former President Donald Trump, the party’s presumptive nominee.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley dropped out of the Republican presidential race in early March but still received more than 16% of the vote in Pennsylvania’s Republican presidential primary Tuesday, a sign of discontent with former President Donald Trump as the GOP nominee.

The vote for Haley, whose name appeared on the ballot despite her campaign suspension, was strongest in Southeastern Pennsylvania, with Montgomery County giving Haley nearly a quarter of the vote.

So, 112 ignoble, infantile Republicans voted to endanger civilization

By George F. Will | April 24, 2024

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/04/24/ignoble-house-repub
licans-against-ukraine-aid
/

Stoking the passion that is their excuse for pandering — the nihilism of a febrile minority in their party — a majority of House Republicans voted last Saturday to endanger civilization. Hoping to enhance their political security in their mostly safe seats, and for the infantile satisfaction of populist naughtiness (insulting a mostly fictitious “establishment”), they voted to assure Vladimir Putin’s attempt to erase a European nation.

The Republican Party was founded as a noble rejection of the most consequential bad thing Congress has ever done: the 1854 Kansas-Nebraska Act, which authorized territories to vote slavery up or down, thereby valuing popular sovereignty more than liberty. On Saturday, the House voted 311-112 for $61 billion for Ukraine, with 112 ignoble House Republicans voting to condemn Ukraine to death, starved of such military basics as artillery shells. How many of the 112 know or care that more than half the $61 billion will fund restocking U.S. munitions inventories, as well as Ukraine’s purchases of U.S. weapons?

President Biden has been blameworthy for what is rightly disparaged as the “drip feed” of weapons to Ukraine. It is fair to say of him what Theodore Roosevelt said of President William Howard Taft: He “means well feebly.”

Tuesday’s Senate ratification of Ukrainian aid proves that Dwight Eisenhower’s baton of Republican internationalism was passed, via Ronald Reagan, to Mitch McConnell. They are the three most important Republicans of the past 100 years.

Congress’s support for Ukraine ranks with two other nation-defining congressional acts.

In March 1941, Congress approved Lend-Lease aid to Britain and others (235 Democrats and 24 Republicans yea, 25 Democrats and 135 Republicans nay). This “most unsordid act in the history of nations” (Winston Churchill) ended the facade of U.S. neutrality. By approving aid for Greece and Turkey in May 1947, Congress affirmed (161 Democrats and 126 Republicans yea, 13 Democrats and 93 Republicans nay) the Truman Doctrine: The United States would assist democratic nations threatened by authoritarians. World War II’s end would not revive isolationism.

In today’s Republican Party, dominated by someone who repudiates the internationalism to which Eisenhower committed the party seven decades ago, the cabal of grotesques might yet predominate.

It includes Missouri’s Sen. Josh Hawley, who thinks we have given “blank checks” to Ukraine (actually, 5 percent of defense spending, and less than half the monetary value of European support). Yet Hawley says we cannot defend both Ukraine and Taiwan, so this would be an excellent time to reduce the U.S. forces in Europe that are deterring Russia from aggressions against NATO allies. Another grotesque, Ohio’s Sen. J.D. Vance, an itinerant Neville Chamberlain visiting green rooms, would welcome Ukraine’s death on the installment plan (see Czechoslovakia in 1938-1939). Georgia’s Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (she who wonders whether Jewish space lasers cause forest fires) expresses her loathing of Ukraine with lunatic accusations that confirm the judgment of Texas’s Rep. Michael McCaul (Republican chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee) that Russian propaganda has “infected a good chunk of my party’s base.”

We have defined heroism so far down that it encompasses Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) allowing a House vote on assisting Ukrainians’ resistance to indiscriminate bombardments of population centers, ethnic cleansing, rape, torture and the abduction of children. Oleksandra Matviichuk, the Ukrainian winner of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize, adds: “One woman I interviewed had her eye extracted with a spoon.”

Heroism is not required of Ukraine’s NATO and other allies, whose combined GDPs are 20 times that of Russia. The cost of losing, by ill-conceived parsimony, this proxy war with a barbaria

Prosecutors have finally homed in on their strategy to jail Trump

By Jeremy Stahl | April 25, 2024, 5:40 AM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/04/conspiracy-against-trump-c
harge-why-now.html

Bragg’s prosecutorial team has finally started laying out how they are going to sell this complex case to jurors: not by pitching it as a specifically illegal paperwork misfiling, but by boiling it down to a criminal “conspiracy” to illegally manipulate voters and win the 2016 election.

The word “conspiracy” was not a prominent feature of Bragg’s pretrial legal filings. But it came up again and again in the first two days of presentation to the jury this week. The idea of a “conspiracy” was so central to the prosecution’s case—and maybe so ominous-sounding—that Trump’s defense team even tried to get prosecutors to stop using the word.

It’s understandable why they’d do that. Taking part in a “criminal conspiracy” sounds a lot worse than allegedly violating Byzantine campaign finance laws that nobody really understands and that might not normally even be enforced properly anyhow.

National Enquirer boss says Trump bragged about hush money in front of the FBI director

David Pecker, the publisher of National Enquirer, is still testifying in the Trump hush money trial. The New York Times tells us about a snippet of his testimony this morning:

Pecker has just given us a very detailed description of Jared Kushner walking him into Trump Tower, and then into Trump’s office, shortly before Trump's inauguration as president. In the office were four noteworthy people: James Comey, Sean Spicer, Reince Priebus and Mike Pompeo.

....Pecker says that in front of Comey, the head of the F.B.I., Trump thanked him for purchasing the stories — and likely committing at least one crime in the process, as Pecker well knew. It's of course not clear what Comey heard. But this is a wild, wild scene we are hearing about.

This is classic Trump: bragging about breaking the law in front of the head of the FBI because, hey, the guy works for me now and has to protect me. Also this:

Prosecutors ask David Pecker whether Trump was concerned about his wife or family finding out about his alleged affairs when he was campaigning for office. Pecker responds no. This suggests that Trump’s worries were electoral, not personal.

Pecker has already testified that the hush money paid to Stormy Daniels was "to help the campaign," but here the prosecution asks him again in more detail. Pecker is very clear: Trump didn't care about his family knowing about it. The concern was all about Trump's campaign.

This is crucial because it (potentially) makes the hush money effectively an unreported and covered-up campaign contribution. That's the underlying felony the prosecution is trying to prove.

What I write is factual, because I actually investigate things for myself and don't live off of reading headlines from the news and political cartoons like Ted does, or reading blog posts from pretentious idiot assholes who can't even put links to back up the made up bullshit they post like you do.

Don't worry about my mental effort, son. I've got 10 times the synapses firing in my brain than you do at any given time, and constantly shutting you down and embarrassing you by pointing out whenever I catch you plagiarizing somebody else's work as your own thoughts takes little to no effort at all. I have an easier time doing this than you do wiping your own ass.

From a broader historical perspective, Biden’s most recent quarterly average ranks 277th out of 314 presidential quarters in Gallup records dating to 1945. That puts it in the bottom 12% of all presidential quarters.
Biden Job Approval Showing No Signs of Increasing

The latest quarterly average for Biden is technically the lowest of his presidency to date, though not meaningfully different from the previous quarter’s 39.0%. After Biden averaged better than 50% approval during his first two quarters in office, his subsequent readings have been near 40%.

With about six months remaining before Election Day, Biden stands in a weaker position than any prior incumbent, and thus faces a taller task than they did in getting reelected.

Can Allan Lichtman predict the 2024 election?

The professor on his famous 13 ‘keys’ to the White House, a method for predicting election results

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/apr/26/allan-lichtman-predict
ion-presidential-election

Perhaps Lichtman’s most striking prophecy, defying polls, commentators and groupthink, was that Trump would pull off a win over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

After the election, Lichtman received a copy of the Washington Post interview in which he made the prediction. On it was written in a Sharpie pen: “Congrats, professor. Good call. Donald J Trump.”

Lichtman was right about 2020, too. “The pandemic is what did Trump in. He congratulated me for predicting him but he didn’t understand the keys. The message of the keys is it’s governance not campaigning that counts and instead of dealing substantively with the pandemic, as we know, he thought he could talk his way out of it and that sank him.”

As another election looms, he is not impressed by polls that show Trump leading Biden, prompting a fatalistic mood to take hold in Washington DC and foreign capitals.

“They’re mesmerized by the wrong things, which is the polls. First of all, polls six, seven months before an election have zero predictive value. They would have predicted President Michael Dukakis. They would have predicted President Jimmy Carter would have defeated Ronald Reagan, who won in a landslide; Carter was way ahead in some of the early polls.

“Not only are polls a snapshot but they are not predictors. They don’t predict anything and there’s no such thing as, ‘if the election were held today’. That’s a meaningless statement.”

He is likely to make his pronouncement on the 2024 presidential election in early August. He notes that Biden already has the incumbency key in his favour and, having crushed token challengers in the Democratic primary, has the contest key too. “That’s two keys off the top. That means six more keys would have to fall to predict his defeat. A lot would have to go wrong for Biden to lose.”

“But it’s always possible there could be a cataclysmic enough event outside the scope of the keys that could affect the election and here we do have, for the first time, not just a former president but a major party candidate sitting in a trial and who knows if he’s convicted – and there’s a good chance he will be – how that might scramble things.”

Millions of people will be on edge on the night of 5 November. After 40 years of doing this, Lichtman will have one more reason to be anxious. “It’s nerve-racking because there are a lot of people who’d love to see me fail.” And if he does? “I’m human,” he admits. “It doesn’t mean my system’s wrong. Nothing is perfect in the human world.”

Yeah. Trump's an incumbent too.

And there wasn't any serious competition against Biden* because the DNC wouldn't allow it. That's why you've got RFK running independent. They might have stopped talking about it for now, but remember only a month ago all the speculation that they're going to replace Biden* last minute. That still may happen too.

Here's the keys:

Quote:

1. Party mandate: After the midterm elections, the incumbent party holds more seats in the US House of Representatives than after the previous midterm elections.

-1 Key: Democrats lost 9 seats to Republicans in 2022.

Quote:

2. Contest: There is no serious contest for the incumbent party nomination.

Neutral: DNC didn't allow anybody serious to run against Biden*. They let Crystal Lady run.

Quote:

3. Incumbency: The incumbent party candidate is the sitting president.

Neutral: Both men are incumbents, and Joe Biden* has the lowest job approval of any president we have historical data for. By a long shot.

Quote:

4. Third party: There is no significant third party or independent campaign.

-1 Key: RFK

Quote:

5. Short-term economy: The economy is not in recession during the election campaign.

Neutral: They've been lying about recession for over 2 years now, with the legacy media trying to tell us we're just imagining that the economy sucks.

Quote:

6. Long-term economy: Real per capita economic growth during the term equals or exceeds mean growth during the previous two terms.

Neutral: It's easy to make massive gains on this when a global plandemic came about and made 2020's numbers look so bad by comparison. Most of those gains were just jobs that came back. People might be making a little bit more, but everything costs far more.

Quote:

7. Policy change: The incumbent administration effects major changes in national policy.

-1 Key: You bet he did. And none of it in a positive way. 10 Million illegal aliens taking over all of our big cities and counting. The Afghanistan Withdrawl debacle that initially put Joe Biden* on his negative approval rating which he has never recovered from. How about 2 or 3 or 4 more wars going on depending on the day, and hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars going overseas, seemingly entirely wasted, allegedly to protect everyone else's borders yet we don't do anything about our own?

Quote:

8. Social unrest: There is no sustained social unrest during the term.

-1 Key: There's social unrest everyday. Just wait until August when the convention hits Chicago and the world gets to see all the different factions of typically Democrat voters throwing the city into chaos.

Quote:

9. Scandal: The incumbent administration is untainted by major scandal.

Neutral: Half the country believes he has been plagued with scandal. The other half doesn't.

Quote:

10. Foreign/military failure: The incumbent administration suffers no major failure in foreign or military affairs.

-1 Key: Joe Biden*'s administration has been a train wreck globally.

Quote:

11. Foreign/military success: The incumbent administration achieves a major success in foreign or military affairs.

-1 Key: Joe Biden*'s administration has been a train wreck globally.

Quote:

12. Incumbent charisma: The incumbent party candidate is charismatic or a national hero.

-1 Key: Joe Biden* has negative charisma.

And no... Punching some kid in the nose because your mom paid you a quarter to do it, or giving Corn Pop what for does not count as a national hero anywhere outside of what's left of Joe's* brain.

Quote:

13. Challenger charisma: The challenging party candidate is not charismatic or a national hero.

CNN apparently isn't seeing whatever you guys think you're seeing. Either that, or there's another change in the way the wind is blowing.

They just gave Trump +6 in their latest poll, which coming from CNN means something given that they're currently the pro-Trump outlier on the list with the highest number for Trump by +3.

There have only been 5 polls that looked better for Trump in 2024, and 3 of them were Rasmussen Reports.

And as of today, Trump is back up in all 7 swing state polling aggregates by at least 1 point everywhere except for Pennsylvania, all the way up to 5.4 points.

Before you go blowing yourself too much, Teddy boy, a lot of those page views are just from us.

Every time you click on the thread it's one page view. If you click on the most recent page, that's another page view. When you make a post and post it and it goes back to the thread with your new post, that's another page view. If you back out of a post you're creating to reference something previously posted and go back to your post in progress, that's another page view. Every time you edit a post and click "Update Post" that's another page view.

If you're looking for a post that a previous person made on a thread that now has 47 pages, well you're probably going to add something like 10 page views at least as you try to narrow it down to the timeframe you think it was made.

I do most of those things every post that I make here. And as far as editing posts, I'm known to edit up to a dozen times when I'm writing them. Right now, I've added another 7 page views just writing this reply.

(Oops... I edited it again and forgot to change that to 8 page views. So now I'm adding another page view just to make this edit, and I've added 9 page views just writing this post).

This thread is 1.5 years old now and has somewhere in the area of 2,300 to 2,350 posts now.

The VAST majority of those page views are just us posting in this thread every day.

(Oh... and here's a nice round 10th page view while writing this post, just to tell you that we are more or less alone in here).

Those kids support a criminal today. Thirty years into the future, it will be no surprise that those kids have made a bad life for their adult selves. Their trajectory for life is being set right now. I've watched enough bad kids grow, become adults, suffer, and die badly to know the pattern. The same is true with good kids, but when they become adults, they prosper and live long.

Trump Has Always Been a Caricature of a Particular Type of Villain. It’s on Full Display Right Now. Trump is what Bad Kids Want To Grow Up To Be.

As we wait for more explosive testimony, let’s consider what David Pecker made clear. Trump has long acted like a mob boss. Now it’s part of his criminal trial.

People of New York v. Donald Trump resumes Tuesday, picking up where it left off Friday, with the continuation of testimony from a banker who helped handle Michael Cohen’s business affairs. The reason the banker is here? He also tried to assist with Cohen’s fraudulent efforts to open a shell corporation to pay off Stormy Daniels, allegedly on behalf of Donald Trump.

Gary Farro, said banker, is testifying as what is called a custodial witness, or someone who can explain for the jury critical documents in a case but who had no part in the alleged crime. This helps explain why this testimony is the driest the jury has heard so far—though it’s necessary to explain the mechanics of the supposed conspiracy.

Trump has been bad all his life. Even as children, certain people appreciate that quality and would vote for Trump if they could. Unfortunately, they don't have Trump's doctors, lawyers, bodyguards, and, especially, his money to protect their lives from the consequences of imitating him. They don't understand what misfortunes will happen to them later in life.

Donald Trump gave a long interview to Time magazine:
https://time.com/6972022/donald-trump-transcript-2024-election/

Here's a typical Trump exchange:

Okay, sir. Violent crime is going down throughout the country. There was a 6% drop in—

Trump: I don't believe it.

You don’t believe that?

Trump: Yeah, they’re fake numbers.

You think so?

Trump: Well it came out last night. The FBI gave fake numbers.... It’s a lie. It’s fake news.

Sir, these numbers are collected by state and local police departments across the country. Most of them support you. Are they wrong?

Trump: Yeah. Last night. Well, maybe, maybe not. The FBI fudged the numbers and other people fudged numbers. There is no way that crime went down over the last year. There's no way because you have migrant crime. Are they adding migrant crime? Or do they consider that a different form of crime?

What does Trump mean, "It came out last night"? He's referring to an interview on Real America's Voice with John Lott. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=775604651205952

John Lott! He's presented as president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, and his latest schtick is telling anyone who will listen that the FBI's crime figures are bogus. This is accomplished via his usual blizzard of misleading statistics — partly by using incorrect data and partly by ignoring inconvenient facts. At the moment, his primary claim is that the FBI's 2023 figures aren't believable because they don't match figures from the NCVS survey of crime. But NCVS hasn't even released its 2023 figures yet, and they won't for several more months.

The Most Alarming Answer From Trump’s Interview With Time

By Molly Olmstead | April 30, 2024, 6:12 PM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/04/trump-interview-time-magaz
ine-cover-abortion-monitor-immigration.html

The most shocking response dealt with a hypothetical posed by the reporter, Eric Cortellessa.

Cortellessa: Do you think states should monitor women’s pregnancies so they can know if they’ve gotten an abortion after the ban?

Trump: I think they might do that. Again, you’ll have to speak to the individual states. Look, Roe v. Wade was all about bringing it back to the states.

Trump’s refusal to take a stance on such a sinister possibility shows he remains concerned about disappointing his white evangelical base. But he may have underestimated just how radical his nonstance really was, and just how unsettling it may seem to voters.

That ended up being a theme of the more than hour-long interview: Trump dodged so many questions by railing about his victimhood or boasting about his victories, but when he did give a direct response, it showed a man who had learned no lessons from his 2020 loss or his ongoing legal challenges. The Trump of the interview was as extreme as ever.

Trump also lied a fair bit, as he typically does in interviews. He insisted that his Manhattan trial was “not even a criminal case.” (It is.) He insisted that the only person who died on Jan. 6 was Ashli Babbitt. (She wasn’t.) He once again denied that he had ever written on Truth Social that he might have to “terminate” parts of the U.S. Constitution. (He did.)

A presidential candidate being open to placing a significant portion of its population’s bodies under biological surveillance bodes poorly for democracy.

Trump Unleashes Bizarre 'Word Salad' Answer During Live Nighttime TV Interview

“It’s just such a sad thing to see,” Trump said. “If you go back a year, go back three or four or five years ago, this would not even be possible to think about. Nobody would be thinking this could happen. You look at the antisemitism, the hatred of Israel by so many people.”

“You go back 10 years, I mean Israel was protected by Congress. And now, Congress is just doing numbers that are unbelievable with I think a very very small group of people within Congress and it’s gotta stop. But we have to go back to the roots. We have to protect, we have to stop the antisemitism that’s just pervading our country right now and Biden has to do something.”

Trump also claimed there were “paid agitators” among the protesters, said some are “brainwashed,” insisted that Israel needs to “clean out the cancer,” and accused President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of not being supportive of Israel.

His rambling comments left people on X puzzled:

“Now, Congress is just doing numbers that are unbelievable with I think a very very small group of people within Congress and it’s gotta stop” -WTF does that even mean!? https://t.co/yxB4E3cgF3

Jack hasn't taken control of his life. He admitted he has no job and doesn't want one. Further, he says anyone who has a job is a sucker. So, he has no income and lives off our government's teat; i.e. the tax payers hard earned money. He said he lived off 7 thousand dollars last year. That's no more than what a teenager would earn working a summer job. That is not someone in control, in command of his life.

He hates everything and everybody and mentally lives in a world of conspiracies. He doesn't want to build anything. He only wants to tear everything down. He is a complete loser. And if he isn't drinking anymore, he certainly displays all the tendencies of a dry drunk.

These are not behaviors that could be considered as the behaviors of someone being in control. These are the behaviors of someone who cannot climb out of the hole he dug for himself. Therefore, to avoid embarrassment, loser status, he tells everyone the hole is where he wants to live. That they are stupid for not digging and living in their own hole.

Sad...And like I said, he wants to tear everything down.

Donald Trump on What His Second Term Would Look Like

Donald Trump thinks he’s identified a crucial mistake of his first term: He was too nice.

We’ve been talking for more than an hour on April 12 at his fever-dream palace in Palm Beach. Aides lurk around the perimeter of a gilded dining room overlooking the manicured lawn. When one nudges me to wrap up the interview, I bring up the many former Cabinet officials who refuse to endorse Trump this time. Some have publicly warned that he poses a danger to the Republic. Why should voters trust you, I ask, when some of the people who observed you most closely do not?

What emerged in two interviews with Trump, and conversations with more than a dozen of his closest advisers and confidants, were the outlines of an imperial presidency that would reshape America and its role in the world. To carry out a deportation operation designed to remove more than 11 million people from the country, Trump told me, he would be willing to build migrant detention camps and deploy the U.S. military, both at the border and inland. He would let red states monitor women’s pregnancies and prosecute those who violate abortion bans. He would, at his personal discretion, withhold funds appropriated by Congress, according to top advisers. He would be willing to fire a U.S. Attorney who doesn’t carry out his order to prosecute someone, breaking with a tradition of independent law enforcement that dates from America’s founding. He is weighing pardons for every one of his supporters accused of attacking the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, more than 800 of whom have pleaded guilty or been convicted by a jury. He might not come to the aid of an attacked ally in Europe or Asia if he felt that country wasn’t paying enough for its own defense. He would gut the U.S. civil service, deploy the National Guard to American cities as he sees fit, close the White House pandemic-preparedness office, and staff his Administration with acolytes who back his false assertion that the 2020 election was stolen.

Why Trump’s New Campaign Strategy Is So Scary

He’s approaching the 2024 election cycle in a surprisingly practical way.

By Jim Newell | May 01, 2024, 5:45 AM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/05/trump-campaign-strategy-wh
ite-house-election-endorsements.html

While one of his dear friends, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, was working toward ousting Speaker Mike Johnson following his decision to bring up Ukraine aid for a vote, Trump rode to Johnson’s defense.

Trump may or may not care about Johnson’s employment situation. But he does know that another booted speaker — and the prospect of another monthlong saga of House Republicans slapping themselves silly attempting to pick a new leader — would not present the best face of Republican leadership to the voting public. Greene’s plan is going nowhere.

Among those who are certain to not be in Washington when he’s elected is South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem. Noem, a supposed vice presidential prospect, wrote in her soon-to-be-released book about her experience shooting her puppy. Noem’s veepstakes chances were already dim given her state’s strict abortion ban. But if she intended to impress Trump with this display of cruelty, it didn’t work. Trump, again, would like to win the election.

“Trump isn’t a dog person necessarily,” one Trump source told the New York Post, “but I think he understands that you can’t choose a puppy killer as your pick, for blatantly obvious reasons.”

If this were a midterm year, and Trump wasn’t atop the ticket? Sure, maybe puppy-killing would be an asset toward securing an endorsement — or at least not a hindrance. But right now, he has no space for anyone else’s electoral risk but his own.

The Roberts Court and the Rule of Lawlessness

By Eric Segall - May 01, 2024

The disaster that was the Trump v. United States oral argument reminded me of how little the Roberts Court has actually cared about rule of law values and legal transparency during its 18-year run. Leaving aside the overturning or narrowing of numerous landmark cases from abortion to affirmative action to the free exercise of religion, the Roberts Court has consistently, in the Court’s most important and publicized opinions, engaged in subterfuge, sleight of hand, and even outright lying.

In this post, I discuss landmark cases involving affirmative action, health care, voting rights, separation of church and state, and the Second Amendment to show, not that I disagree with the results (I do), but instead to demonstrate that no matter what side of the issues you may favor in these country-defining cases, the Roberts Court has resolved these questions in a lawless manner because of reliance on demonstrably false facts and obviously misleading descriptions of prior rulings and other legal materials. In short, the Roberts Court has acted lawlessly from the beginning.

There is so much evidence Thomas is corrupt there is no denying it. Alito the same. And all those appointed by Trump lied under oath about overturning Roe.

Jane Roberts was paid more than $10 million by a host of elite law firms after marrying Roberts a whistleblower alleges, making him corrupt as well.

At least one of those firms argued a case before Chief Justice Roberts after paying his wife hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He has never once recused himself.

Trumptards are puzzled and angry that their lives aren't as prosperous as expected. They refuse to understand the reason: Trumptards are stupid/lazy/assholes. Trumptards love Trump because he is a stupid asshole same as they are. Trump has promised to make them great again without them performing their life's duties competently. He is great and Trumptards think he can do the same for them once he is President. He can't, mostly because Trump inherited a $billion and he can't hand them a $billion, or even a $million, to rectify the mess they made of life with one stupid decision after another.

I'll say it again.

Like I said about a month back, Joe Biden* had hit his peak polling and it would swing back the other way. Joe Biden*'s approval rating is so low that he couldn't possibly have ever gotten higher than he was just two weeks ago.

Trump is now up anywhere from 1 to 5.4 points in the swing-state polling aggregates, and 1.5 points up on the general election polls again and climbing. And it's not as if that's from anything Trump himself is doing since the Democrats have him going to court every day.

Crime statistics from the FBI.

Job figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Biden debates with this opening statement:

Donald is a better debater than I am but a much worse candidate to be President and let me tell you why:

[turns to Trump]

Donald, you’ve proven yourself to be a serial liar and a loser who cannot lose gracefully or even admit defeat.

> You write love letters to dictators who murder journalists and political opponents.

> You’re a tool of Vladimir Putin in his quest to conquer Ukraine and reconstitute the former Soviet Union. The only part of the 2016 Republican Party platform you touched — the only part! — was not about real estate or taxes or the problems of working men and women – it was about weakening our support for Ukraine.

> You failed to improve on Obamacare even though you claimed to have a secret plan to deliver — and I quote — “terrific health care at a tiny fraction of the cost.” The only piece of that plan you revealed was Step One: REPEALING it. Your Republican colleagues voted over and over — 52 times! — for repeal but never succeeded, thank God.

> You failed to make any progress on infrastructure, even though you called week after week “Infrastructure Week.”

> You don’t do your homework. Being a GOOD president requires a lot of actual work, not just watching TV, throwing paper towels to hurricane victims, and playing golf.

> I could go on and on, but the biggest reason you would make a terrible president is that what you really want to be is a dictator, not a president.

> That’s in part because you admire dictators — you even started your 2016 campaign with a quote from Mussolini, for crying out loud — and in part so you can shut down the multiple criminal cases pending against you, for which you are currently out on bail.

> So go ahead and win this debate by being loud or bullying or making up what you call “alterative facts.”

> But no matter how many $60 Bibles you sell quoting “two Corinthians” to raise cash to pay your lawyers, may God keep you from realizing your unAmerican vision of vengeance and retribution.

It’s had it all: Secret recordings, sordid sex claims, and extremely rude tweets.

The third week of Donald Trump’s hush-money trial will come to a close on Friday after a second week of bombshell testimony about what prosecutors claim was a scheme to bury salacious, damaging stories about him in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

The Manhattan courtroom on Thursday heard more from Keith Davidson, a lawyer who represented porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal — both of whom claimed to have had sexual liaisons with Trump (which he denies). Jurors heard about Davidson’s shock when he realized that he may have contributed to the success of Trump’s first bid for the White House, sending a dramatic election night text to Dylan Howard, the then-editor of the National Enquirer, reading: “What have we done?”

“Oh my God,” replied Howard, who participated in the so-called “catch and kill” scheme at the Enquirer to shut down embarrassing stories about Trump. When asked in court what the exchange meant, Davidson explained that the pair had an understanding that “our activities may have in some way assisted the presidential campaign of Donald Trump.”

The prosecution argues that Trump sought to illegally influence the 2016 election with the plot to prevent damaging stories from ever becoming public. Trump is specifically charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in relation to the Trump Organization recording payments to Michael Cohen—the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s former attorney and fixer—as legal expenses. Prosecutors allege that the payments were in fact reimbursements to Cohen for a $130,000 payment he’d made to Daniels to buy her silence.

But in real life it's more like...

[turns to Trump, who isn't the teleprompter feeding him lines]

"Hey man. Let's do a pushup contest like my uncle won before the cannibals ate him. I used to shower with my 12 year old daughter. Her hair smelled so good, and I've been chasing that high by grabbing every little girl I do a photo op with tightly and giving her a real good sniff... but it's just not the same. We need more migrants coming up from the Egyptian border. You like ice cream? I want an ice cream cone. Let's get out of here. C'mon man!"

[walks off stage after 5 minutes of trying to find the stairs]

A New York City nonprofit that received more than $12 million from Goldman Sachs' charitable arm encouraged anti-Israel activists to re-create the violent protests of "the summer of 2020," just hours before rioters stormed and occupied a building on Columbia University’s campus.

More than 100 masked and keffiyeh-clad activists convened in the People’s Forum’s Manhattan office Monday evening to plan their next moves as anti-Israel protests reach a fever pitch across the country. The meeting, which was scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m., was delayed to give protesters from Columbia time to make it downtown.

The Liberal Patriot: Will the Enthusiasm Gap Matter in 2024?

https://www.liberalpatriot.com/p/will-the-enthusiasm-gap-matter-in

Quote:

Just 39 percent of voters are enthusiastic about the impending rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. The lack of excitement is no surprise: both men are deeply unpopular.

What is surprising, however, is the large partisan enthusiasm gap. According to fresh polling from Monmouth, 63 percent of Republicans are “very” or “somewhat” enthusiastic about the election, compared to just 36 percent of Democrats. This 27-point gap places Democratic enthusiasm closer to that of independents—a group that usually slots in significantly below firmer partisans.

This reluctance extends across key components of the Democratic coalition. Younger voters are less enthusiastic than those 55+ and non-white voters are less enthusiastic than white non-college voters—both findings reflected in polling that shows deflated Democratic margins with these groups.

Yup.

Quote:

While certainly a warning sign, losing the enthusiasm war is not necessarily a death knell for Biden. In 2012, Barack Obama won reelection despite a Republican enthusiasm advantage (though it was significantly smaller than Biden’s deficit today). There remains five months to rally the troops and narrow the gap. But Trump antagonism alone is not enough to hold the presidency. The reelect must work hard to turn reluctant supporters—who risk staying home or voting third party—into enthusiastic ones who can build grassroots momentum for the campaign.

It ain't never gonna happen, buddy.

Your boy fucked up the country and whether it's low-income minority Democrat voters who have every right to bitch about their lives right now, or rich white college "educated" idiots who have no right to bitch about their lot in life, everyone on your side is bitching right now.

Tears and Hope on the Witness Stand

The defense made the former Trump communications director cry. The prosecution seems to have gotten what it wanted.

By Jeremy Stahl | May 03, 2024, 5:54 PM

This is the key charge that prosecutors are trying to make: that the thing Trump truly cared about—and the reason the payment had been made—was winning the election. That would make it an illegal unreported in-kind contribution to his campaign, which is the central charge that elevates the falsifying business records case from a misdemeanor to a felony.

Getting banned from the same FBI/CIA/NSA ran social media that was banning any doctor who didn't agree with the narrative, and getting impeached twice over nothing by the most extreme Leftist congress we've ever had and coming out on the other side unscathed is a badge of honor. Trump wasn't the one locking everyone up in their homes and threatening the livelihood of their families if they didn't take an experimental lab concoction by abusing OSHA laws unconstitutionally.

Cognitive Decline: Biden Campaign Says They Will Shorten His Speeches
Sunday, May 05, 2024 - 12:45 PM

Who is actually running the country?

The Biden campaign team has admitted that they are seeking to shorten his speeches, claiming that they are seeking “quality over quantity,” but leading many to presume it is because he can barely talk.

Biden Deputy Campaign manager Quentin Fulks told MSBNC:

“Our campaign believes in quality over quantity. We believe that these touches, these smaller things that are getting to the point about what is going on in the stakes of this election are gonna be easier for the voters to tap into.”

The announcement led many to ask, how much shorter can his speeches get?
At the moment he can barely manage three minutes without slurring and losing a battle with the teleprompter.
The campaign like to air pre recorded speeches, that have scores of edits and cuts in them, blatantly because he struggles to speak more than one sentence at a time

A pre-recorded video shared Tuesday to the official “POTUS” account on X has a whopping THIRTY cuts, prompting yet more questions about Biden’s mental acuity.

The video shows Biden making a short speech about NATO, and remarkably he doesn’t slur a single word or struggle to read his script as he does in every other situation.

Of course, it’s a pre-recorded video so they’re not going to leave in mistakes.

However, it is the sheer amount of cuts that has people asking the question, is he capable of completing more than one sentence at a time?

It doesn’t seem that way.

Here’s what Biden normally sounds like: (link to video)

Here’s what he sounded like yesterday: (link to video)

Some people counted 29 cuts in the latest video, others counted over 30.

It’s a lot.

If you do the math(s) it works out at Biden being coherent for 5 seconds at a time.

Well... That's the problem with Politico. They've been lying about the economy for so long now they drank their own Kool-Aid and believe Biden* has something to brag about on that front.

Joe Biden* and the Democrats only have one singular issue to run on right now, and that's abortion.

There's nothing else that they can even talk about outside of fearmongering over the opposition that it's becoming increasingly clear they will not be able to prevent winning the election in November by putting in prison.

Joe Biden* is down on 7 of the keys to the White House right now, and he's flirting with losing 8 or 9 of them before November.

And SPOILER ALERT: Abortion isn't one of the keys.

You can't have both of them, Joe*. Not anymore.

It was easy to keep all of your factions together when interest rates were near-zero and the money printing machines were running 24/7.

You're down in the polls and your opposition can't even campaign because you keep him tied up in court everyday.

Meanwhile... You're now faced with a situation where any move you make is futile, Joe*.

But doing nothing at all could be even worse for you.

I don't admire you. Even Disney was able to just sit back and do nothing in 2024 after suffering the worst losses in the history of the company for making all the wrong decisions just as you have.

But that's not an option for you. Not with the election only 6 months away.

So... who's it going to be? You're going to lose in November either way, so your only move now is to lay the framework for who the Democrat Party is going to cater to going forward.

You know, I'm old enough to remember when Trump said that Hillary Clinton shouldn't even be running because she was under investigation.

“She has no right to be running, you know that,” Trump said. She wasn't even indicted.

Now, Hillary will be chilling out with a nice glass of wine, watching low-energy Don Snorleone struggle to stay awake during his criminal trial. I love that for her.

One of the more intriguing questions in the FAQ section of the Trump Bible website asks: “What if my Bible has sticky pages?”

My Bible did indeed have sticky pages. The FAQ guidance directs the reader to “a YouTube video that does a wonderful job of explaining how to break your new Bible in”.

That video is six minutes long. It shows a man unboxing a Bible and then flipping through the entire book, page by page. “Separating the pages is a somewhat tedious process,” the man says.

He was right. The Trump Bible, which uses public domain text from the King James version, has 1,350 thin-to-the-point-of-translucent pages, and I wasn’t about to go through the entire thing. But all the good stuff appears to be in here: there’s Noah desperately bundling animals onto a big boat, Job having his life ruined because of what amounts to a wager between God and the devil, and the book of Leviticus – much of which is given over to the correct way to sacrifice animals. (For a bullock, sprinkle its blood around the altar and wash its innards before setting it on fire; if you’re offering up a pigeon, be sure to wring off its head before plucking.)

You don’t have to pay $59.99 for that kind of content. Search “free Bible” online and there are hundreds of places that are literally giving it away. But this Trump-endorsed Bible represents something special to his supporters, said Kristin Du Mez, a professor at Calvin University.

“My sense is, most people aren’t buying this Bible to read it,” Du Mez said. “They’re buying the Bible to have it, and to participate in this kind of shared identity. To put $60 down to say: ‘Yes, this is my guy and I’m committed to this, and this is my faith.’”

The shared identity is one of embracing the “myth of Christian America”, Du Mez said: “The idea that America was founded as a distinctly Christian nation: a proto-conservative, white evangelical version of the country, which never really existed. It’s that shared vision of a mythical past and commitment to restoring some semblance of that kind of mythical order in the present.”

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis Is Banning Lab-Grown Meat

A full plate of culture war and conspiracy theories.

It’s possible to grow meat in a lab — to cultivate animal cells without an animal and turn them into something people can eat. However, that process is difficult and expensive. And at the moment, lab-grown meat isn’t commercially available and probably won’t be for a long time, if ever.

Still, if and when lab-grown meat, also sometimes referred to as cultured meat, makes it onto the market at less than outrageous prices, a significant number of people will probably buy it. Some will do so on ethical grounds, preferring not to have animals killed to grace their dinner plates. Others will do so in the belief that growing meat in labs does less damage to the environment than devoting acres and acres to animal grazing. And it’s at least possible that lab-grown meat will eventually be cheaper than meat from animals.

And if some people choose to consume lab-grown meat, why not? It’s a free country, right?

Not if the likes of Ron DeSantis have their way. Recently DeSantis, back to work as governor of Florida after the spectacular failure of his presidential campaign, signed a bill banning the production or sale of lab-grown meat in his state. Similar legislation is under consideration in several states.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/09/us-states-republic
ans-banning-lab-grown-meat

On one level, this could be seen as a trivial story — a crackdown on an industry that doesn’t even exist yet. But the new Florida law is a perfect illustration of how crony capitalism, culture war, conspiracy theorizing and rejection of science have been merged — ground together, you might say — in a way that largely defines American conservatism today.

First, it puts the lie to any claim that the right is the side standing firm for limited government; government doesn’t get much more intrusive than having politicians tell you what you can and can’t eat.

Who’s behind the ban? Remember when a group of Texas ranchers sued Oprah Winfrey over a show warning about the risks of mad cow disease that they said cost them millions? It’s hard to imagine that today, meat industry fears about losing market share to lab meat aren’t playing a role. And such concerns about market share aren’t necessarily silly. Look at the rise of plant-based milk, which in 2020 accounted for 15 percent of the milk market.

But politicians who claim to worship free markets should be vehemently opposed to any attempt to suppress innovation when it might hurt established interests, which is what this amounts to. Why aren’t they?

Part of the answer, of course, is that many never truly believed in freedom — only freedom for some. Beyond that, however, meat consumption, like almost everything else, has been caught up in the culture wars.

You saw this coming years ago if you were following the most trenchant source of social observation in our times: episodes of “The Simpsons.” Way back in 1995, Lisa Simpson, having decided to become a vegetarian, was forced to sit through a classroom video titled “Meat and You: Partners in Freedom.”

Sure enough, eating or claiming to eat lots of meat has become a badge of allegiance on the right, especially among the MAGA crowd. Donald Trump Jr. once tweeted, “I’m pretty sure I ate 4 pounds of red meat yesterday,” improbable for someone who isn’t a sumo wrestler.

But even if you’re someone who insists that “real” Americans eat lots of meat, why must the meat be supplied by killing animals if an alternative becomes available? Opponents of lab-grown meat like to talk about the industrial look of cultured meat production, but what do they imagine many modern meat processing facilities look like?

And then there are the conspiracy theories. It’s a fact that getting protein from beef involves a lot more greenhouse gas emissions than getting it from other sources. It’s also a fact that under President Biden, the United States has finally been taking serious action on climate change. But in the fev

Trump Lawyers Fail At Stopping Stormy Daniels From Taking The Stand

Trump’s attorney Susan Necheles asked Judge Merchan Tuesday morning to block Daniels from testifying about her alleged affair with Trump, claiming the details are unnecessary in a case that’s about “books and records.”

Stormy Daniels will say under oath that Trump has sex. Trump said he did not have sex, but he was not under oath. Will Trump get on the witness stand and testify that Stormy Daniels is lying, not Trump?

I hope Trump speaks the oath to NOT lie, under penalty of perjury, but I am almost certain he won't testify since there are very real consequences for him to Truthfully speak. For example: once sworn to tell the Truth, Trump can be asked about anything the judge rules as relevant to the case, not solely about Stormy Daniels.

l-at-stopping-stormy-daniels-from-taking-the-stand/?sh=606fadc82b8c

Trump railed against Daniels’ testimony in a now-deleted Truth Social post on Tuesday, writing he had only been told about Tuesday’s witness that morning and the lack of time to prepare was “unprecedented.” Trump’s attorneys have not been given advance notice of who upcoming witnesses will be in the trial, given the threat of Trump attacking witnesses on social media, even as a gag order bars him from doing so. After the Associated Press reported Tuesday that Daniels was slated to testify that day, Trump deleted his Truth Social post, and he did not respond to questions Tuesday on his reasons for deleting the post before entering the courtroom.

Donald Trump Is a Micromanaging Cheapskate

He probably wouldn’t even be on trial if he hadn’t been such an annoying, frugal boss.

By Jeremy Stahl | May 07, 2024 10:34 AM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/05/stormy-daniels-donald-trum
p-hush-money-trial-cheap-micromanager.html

Though Tuesday is shaping up to be better, with Stormy Daniels testifying, Monday was the most boring day so far in People of New York v. Trump. A pair of accountants from the Trump Organization testified dryly about the company’s bookkeeping processes, also explaining each and every one of the 34 business documents that Trump is accused of falsifying. For the first time, multiple jurors appeared to lose focus, and the note-taking was far less copious than for more compelling witnesses, such as Hope Hicks, Keith Davidson, and David Pecker.

Although the testimony itself didn’t reveal much, beyond the handwritten notes that Trump Organization Controller Jeffrey McConney and Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg took describing Michael Cohen’s precise reimbursement plan for the Stormy Daniels payment, it showcased one thing: Donald Trump might not be in this mess if he wasn’t such a cheapskate micromanager.

Specifically, the company had a rule that Donald Trump, Eric Trump, or Donald Trump Jr. had to sign off on any payment more than $10,000, which is one reason Trump had to be involved in the Cohen reimbursement scheme in the first place. Those handwritten notes laid out that the Trump Organization was to pay Cohen $180,000 in reimbursements—$130,000 for the Stormy payment and $50,000 for another more legitimate reimbursement—then double it to “gross up” and “pay for taxes,” in addition to a $60,000 bonus for Cohen himself. That totaled $420,000, or $35,000 a month for 12 months of repayments, which were labeled in the Trump books as “legal expenses” based on a “retainer.” These are the allegedly false records. Prosecutors on Monday went through each individual one of those payments with both of the accountants. (As ever, Trump’s “beautiful blue eyes” were closed for most of the day.)

Trump’s third adult child, Eric Trump, in the audience that day, was possibly one of the most engaged observers, nodding along every time his name was mentioned. This went like so:

Prosecutors show email stating that an invoice was “OK to pay as per agreement with Don and Eric.”

Eric nods on the sidelines.

Prosecutors explain that payments needed a sign-off from Trump or “one of President Trump’s sons.”

Eric nods.

Prosecutor asks witness if they understood a reference to “two of the president’s sons” to mean “Don and Eric.”

Eric nods again.

Witness explains that invoices of a certain amount had to be paid by “Eric, Don Jr., or Mr. Trump.”

Eric nods yet again.

Eric also nodded, of course, when the prosecution presented a check he had personally signed to reimburse Cohen. (When Deborah Tarasoff, testifying to explain all the signatures on the various checks, walked to and from the witness stand, she seemed to ignore the defendant but gave Eric a warm, motherly smile and even patted his leg.) Eric did not nod when the names of his brother Donald Trump Jr. and his father were listed as check signers—it was just a personal thing.

In addition to having to sign off on each of those $35,000 payments, the former president also had to pay them through his own personal accounts that are managed through the Trump Organization, which led to him personally signing nine checks listed as “retainer” payments to Cohen. Those signatures tied him to the falsifying of the business records of which he is accused, making it much more difficult to argue—as his defense attorneys continue to attempt—that this was all formal accounting procedures in an elaborate family business with which he had nothing to do.

“As a practical matter, he would have had an easier time with plausible deniability if he didn’t micromanage and sign everything,” elections expert Richard Hasen told me.

He did, though. And al

The Jerusalem Post: The US's hypocrisy is infuriating - opinion

To preach to Israel about civilian deaths is hypocritical - the US should know better, given its track record.

https://www.jpost.com/opinion/article-800170

Quote:

Quite frankly, the hypocrisy and holier-than-thou attitude of the United States toward Israel is truly infuriating.

The Pentagon recently announced that last year, on May 3, 2023, they mistakenly killed a civilian. It was not just a misguided, errant bullet that killed him. The United States had tracked a 53-year-old shepherd in northern Syria with a highly sophisticated Predator Drone. And then they launched a Hellfire Missile that blew him to smithereens. The Hellfire, a guided smart bomb, is not very big, it’s about five feet long, but the cost is ginormous – about $150,000 per missile. The Predator Drone, however, is huge. It is 28 feet long and has a wingspan of between 48 and 66 feet.

Turns out, the United States tracked a simple shepherd named Lufti Hassan Masto thinking he was an al-Qaeda leader. They were wrong. A year later, after “a thorough investigation,” the Pentagon admitted its mistake.

Oops!

...

The IDF is doing its best to prevent civilian deaths even to the point of often endangering its own forces – and the United States knows that fully well.

So, while I applaud the Pentagon for admitting that they mistakenly killed a Syrian shepherd, I just wish they would apply the same standard to Israel that they apply to themselves. But for now, that act of understanding and global recognition doesn’t seem to fit their agenda.

It’s more than infuriating – It’s shameful.

The Party Of ‘Death To America’

https://issuesinsights.com/2024/05/07/the-party-of-death-to-america/

Quote:

There was, if hazy memories recall correctly, a time when the Democratic Party was merely an alternative to the Republican Party and not a threat to the country. Those days are gone. Today’s Democrats are in the business of wracking, ruining and razing.

The Biden administration, says former Hawaiian Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, is “destroying the foundational, fundamental elements of our country and what it means to be an American.”

Speaking recently to Dave Rubin of the Rubin Report, Gabbard noted that “we have seen now consistently throughout his entire administration over these last three and a half years, consistently pushing policies that undermine our freedom, that make our country less safe and less secure, and that is very quickly unraveling and” wrecking the backbone of the country.

Though Gabbard left the party not even two years ago, what we’re seeing is not new. The political left, says author David Horowitz, has long been filled with radical activists who “cannot be negotiated with.”

“There is no living alongside it. Either Americans defeat the Neo-Nazi Left or the Neo-Nazi Left defeats America,” says Horowitz.

Yup.
