Let's see...

So far for 2023, Horror has been a big money maker for the studios that produced them, and they tend to be a very low-budget genre. Below are the list of them so far and what place they are on for the 2023 list of Worldwide Gross vs. Production Budget.

1. M3GAN made 1,508% of its production budget of $12 Million.

3. Talk to Me still has gas in the tank and has made 1,311% of its production budget of $4.5 Million.

5. Insidious: The Red Door is just about done in theaters but made 1,163% of its production budget of $16 Million.

8. Evil Dead Rise made 768% of its production budget of $19 Million.

11. Scream IV made 483% of its production budget of $35 Million.

14. The Pope's Exorcist made 406% of its production budget of $18 Million.

I'm not going to count the Disney produced "The Boogeyman" by Steven King on the list of winners though, because with only 234% of its $35 Million production budget made, it probably is actually a loser with the 2.5x Rule of Thumb.

A couple reasons for this failure, IMO...

1. $35 Million is far too high a budget for a Horror flick unless you feel the risk on a franchise like Scream will pay off as it did.

2. Disney turns a lot of people off in current year.

3. Steven King turns a lot of people off in current year. And let's face it... With rare exception, nobody can seem to get Steven King right and most of his movies are pure trash. (I'm not saying this one is, just that everybody knows his movies are usually awful).

Otherwise, yeah... Horror is doing gangbusters right now.

Even though I predicted that the wokified Evil Dead Rise was going to flop in theaters, I was very quick to point out that I was wrong and it was a great idea for the studio to release that one in theaters instead of going direct to streaming. It was clear in 2 or 3 days how much money that decision was going to make them.

Thanks for the article. That was an interesting read, and I liked the data they provided.

Having only really started tracking movies this year after dipping my feet into it a few years before, I had convinced myself that Horror movies were just hot now, but it appears that since at least 1971 they always had at least some notable level of heat to them.

The fact that 16 of the top 50 most profitable movies by investment in cinematic history are Horror is pretty amazing (and that's the very metric that I chose to use to weigh a movie's success in 2023).

But yeah... "It's the budget, stupid".

Quote:

Why Bad Horror Movies Are Still Good Investments

In his 1981 review of the slasher flick Friday the 13th Part II, Roger Ebert, arguably America's most influential film critic, griped, "About two dozen movies a year feature a mad killer going berserk, and they're all about as bad as this one." Audiences did not care for Ebert's assessment, and the film grossed $22M on a budget of $1.25M.

In a 1980 review of that film's predecessor, Friday the 13th, Gene Siskel, Ebert's collaborator and arguably America's second-most influential film critic, dubbed the horror classic "a truly awful movie." But he didn't stop there. Siskel opened his review by purposefully spoiling the film's ending to dissuade potential viewers from seeing the movie. And if spoiling the finale weren't enough, the disgruntled reviewer ended his write-up by encouraging readers to contact the movie's producers and star to complain about its content (going so far as to provide their contact information, which qualifies as doxing).

Again, audiences did not care for this film critic’s opinion. Friday the 13th grossed $60M against a budget of $0.5M, eventually spawning twelve wildly profitable sequels—all hated by critics.

When it comes to the horror genre, there is little correlation between a film's profitability and its box office performance. Horror devotees do not care about the opinions of film critics, film scholars, film theorists, Letterboxd reviewers, IMDB reviewers, or anyone else. Horror lovers want to see horror movies, plain and simple.

Like I just mentioned in the Hollywood thread at the end of my last post..

I could see that. There's surprisingly deep lore to this franchise, and the kids love it.

Is it going to be any good? Who knows? Even horror movies that are trash have followings and tend to make money because of their small budgets. (See: Exorcist: Believer)

ETA: BTW... I just looked again at that stat of $60 Million made off of a $500k budget for Friday the 13th. Wow. 12,000% return on investment. I don't imagine we're ever going to see returns like that again. Even Talk To Me's micro-budget was 9 times more than Friday the 13ths.

Crossing a line between Scifi/Dystopia and true Horror?

There will always be online Film Shorts, indie Short Movie Ideas. The fan art, web toon idea, now AI is helping people who could not do film make an interesting movie.

Scifi and Horror used to be separate genres, scifi could be Optimist or big Productions, the Jetsons was happy, Star Wars and Star Trek were expensive, Scifi had expensive actors...then Scifi started getting darker and Indie horror movies started becoming more expensive and had expensive actors in the product

something strange happened these past years

Hollywood has gone beyond Hollyweirdo it is a political message psyop media?

the two genres of Horror and Scifi seem to have blended into one pre-Covid and post Covid, the 'Dystopia'

and so many films shorts

My dad took my brother to see this one. Little bro loves his horror movies. Me and my old man don't care for the horror genre much. That being said, my dad actually liked it. A surprise on both our parts. I'd say based just off that it's at least watchable if you don't know what else to watch and you've got nothing else to do.

I only watched the trailer because you posted it...

Actually looks pretty decent. Somebody at least went to school to learn how to make an interesting trailer.

Some thoughts...

1. Pretty scammy to boldly proclaim that it was directed by the guy who directed Evil Dead, yet not specify that they were talking about the 2013 reboot thing I had forgotten even existed. Not nice to get people excited it was being directed by Sam Raimi when it wasn't.

2. I'm wondering if that little tender "bro hug" early on in the trailer was "man... you've been my best friend since we were little kids and I'm proud to die with you" or "man... I should have let you rawdawg me in the shower this morning, because I don't think we're going to have another chance".

10 years ago I wouldn't have even thought to ask that question. But it's 2024.

3. Not sure that the close-up footage of a 12" literal monster cock sliding slowly and stickily out of a woman's mouth after she'd just been raped by an alien species is the best cinematic choice.

I've always bitched about how gratuitous gore takes away from a movie when there are more effective ways to get the point across. I've never had that thought about something happening that is blatantly sexual on screen before. I mean... yeah... Tree Rape in the original Evil Dead, sure... but this is an actual dick we're talking about here. We all knew who Giger was. A lot of kids are going to see that.

4. DEI hiring in this fictional future is alive and well and in full force.

I know Aliens already did that, but not to this degree.

The most amusing thing about all of that in movies today is that the huge diversity on display in these new installments just doesn't make any sense with the movies that came before it. That's one of the major pitfalls of lacking originality and needing to milk old franchises for all they're worth. One which they wouldn't fall into if they just made something new for once.

The amount of non-white people that are in movies that share history with movies dating back nearly 50 years now is just as funny as looking at the tech they had in the "future" in all those 70's and 80's movies compared to movies made today that take place in the same future.

I dunno. I probably won't be watching this, but whoever made that trailer should still have a job after the massive Hollywood purge is over.

Subservience an upcoming American sci-fi horror or thriller film,

there's a Nanny? gynoid, or fembot, is a feminine humanoid robot who also becomes a 'Sex-Bot' but then goes Terminator Evil and there's a fight between humans and artificial machines as these robot people try to take over the world? Filmed cheap in Eastern Europe, Budget maybe 3.5 maybe 5 million Dollars or €4 million Euro, Megan Fox known for her breakout role was in Transformers but then she had a huge drama fight with the Director and she was almost un-personed by Hollywood, crew members of Transformers defended director Michael Bay against accusations made by Fox. She is a sex symbol even if she wants to dump that whole sex thing with 'feminism', Megan Fox may have hooked up with a White Rapper 'Machine Gun Kelly' she now says her Christian faith is still very important to her and she believes it keeps her grounded, she married the guy from 90210 tv for a while she has 3 kids, she still looks good like a pretty doll onscreen.

With such a low budget if this movie gets any kind of Cinema release This movie is making money

Well... Megan Fox has had enough plastic surgery already that she has that Uncanny Valley look to her. Probably perfect for this role.

She's not a bad actress, even if she's a weirdo.

Long before her strange plastic surgery, and way before they had ever started talking about making a Wonder Woman movie, but knowing it was an inevitably once the MCU had really started taking off, I always said that she should be Wonder Woman. She was absolutely gorgeous back in those Transformer days and would have been the perfect fit for that role.

I wasn't the only one. I remember when somebody made this image something like 15 years ago.

She could have gotten any truth she wanted out of me without using that golden lasso.

... although, please use the golden lasso.

I sort of understand what you're saying I got maxed out on horror I used to watch all kinds of slasher, ghost, killer, zombie stuff and then just hand 'enough'

There is something that is extra Disturbing about real life stories, the Wars around the World, or Cops who got the wrong guy or overlooked something and allowed Absue to continue, the True Crime Documentaries, especially hearing about victims or survivors, or blood and war and murder happening with no reason or logic

I might watch some of the Activist stuff, people who politically want to save a Dog at a test facility or Fight a Greedy Company and Clean Polluted Rivers or 'Don't F**k With Cats'
Tiger King is supposed to be good but weird and messy, the cold case 'Who Took Johnny?' explaining the milk cartoon face thing, Elizabeth Carmichael the convicted fraudster a car called "The Dale" a show The Imposter a kid from Texas found in Spain? and the NXVIM cult stuff shocking and 'An Open Secret' it seemed good but I could not finish way too shocking with all the child actor stuff and abuse rumors.

crimes in real life are often more disturbing than fiction

The world can be a dark place
at least fictional Dragons or a War of the Worlds Alien or Zombies are just 'escapism'

If it follows the plot of the game, most people will hate Season 2 of The Last Of Us. On the other hand, if it doesn't follow the plot of the game, it'll mean admitting the game was terrible. What is Neil Druckmann to do?

I've been saying that for a long time now.

TLO2 got straight 10/10 ratings from EVERY USAID-funded video game magazine when it came out, and gamers hated it.

Final Destination I watched 1 and 2 I think Final Destination 2 I remember them being out around 911 time just before and after maybe 2000-2003 then everyone was playing a DVD on their Laptop or Video Game, I didnt catch them in cinema I think was busy with work or girlfriends or something...then you get girlfriends who wont watch horror... maybe I sneakily watched 3 instead of 2 when a girlfriend was with her mother or something

I remember We were bombarded in parts of the world with this yellow orange red terror alerts, North Korea is testing a missile Yellow Alert! a terrorist corssed the Mexico border Alert!...then over the yeasr we got numb. I think they were the exact thing needed after 911 not to censor it all and just entertainment and 'jump scare'
the Death thing was like an entity floating around like an unseen ghost
I think the movies got very same-ish but the early ones were good, I don't think I watched 3 or if I watched 3 instead of 2 I didnt watch beyond Final Destination 3
Ali Larter from Heroes was in it and Tony Todd the Horror guy did he also do scifi I think he was a Klingon in Star Trek and think he's dead now? the ghostly Death thing was Galactic it had a ghostly plan predestined to happen, but somehow Death got tricked, it still chases them for a while but they fool death for a while and something is given up?
It was horror but it had no bad guy no villain just very Supernatural or Wayist or something. I think there was a girl who had a dream or vision or something Nostradamus stuff to avoid death or a boy who would feel something coming, I heard it was an X-Files episode that never got made so instead became a movie...I'm not sure of the same Production Companies / Pictures still exist but back then you had lots of indie studios and indie music labels before Sony or WB/ DC and Disney / Marvel ate them all.
I would probably over analyze them a little today, like forgetting how to just enjoy a film maybe been around with too many of those writer, film maker wannabe, music types of people since and some of their 'arty' skills maybe rubbed off on me so I can think too much at times about the 'Art' or artform of film...or maybe films just suck now and I like the ones where there wasn't always a wall of political messages broadcast at you. Japan and SKorea horror was also becoming a big thing at this time, the Ringu, A Tale of Two Sisters 2003, Korean 'Phone' the arrival of the new South Korea Asian wave of cinema and pop culture.

I think its all better watched film in cinema, phones switched off and its just more 'closer' to the performance less noise or distraction in the real world unless youre one of those rich person critics BruceWayne old money freaks with a Mansion and your own cinema in your house then you can do what you want...for normal people the movies are probably best watched in the theater with the big screen
Good movies and the Budget was like $16 million or something

and horror?

Haha... yeah. Girlfriends and horror movies, huh? Takes all types though.

The only movie I've ever walked out on in the theater was James Wood's Vampire's movie. I was loving that movie so much. That action in that intro. I was there for it.

... Until I wasn't.

Ya see... my girlfriend and her college friend, 5 minutes into the movie, all the sudden developed an allergy to vampires, which pretty much meant I was allergic to vampires now too.

It was probably a few years later I first saw it in full on a crappy tube TV and always thought it was a shame I didn't see it in the theater. But then again, I probably wouldn't remember the movie so much today if all that other stuff weren't all intermingled with it.

A few years later I was dating this odd little borderline would have been a "goth" girl but I met her completely normal suburban 2-parent family and they were somehow managing to rein that in still, at least until she was done with community college. Not usually my type at all, but the most persistent woman I'd ever been with in my life, and on most days it was almost as much fun as would be necessary to deal with all the crazy that came along with it.

Now that girl... She would have LOVED going with me to see Vampires.

Yeah... I know the general premise of Final Destination.... or at least I think I do since I saw the first movie and enjoyed it. I won't say I remember any single individual scenes outside of the one guy getting killed inside of the bathroom by the water which was awesome.... Didn't somebody die by some part of a building swinging down on them right at the last second of the movie too???

I'm wondering how much they kept up with the lore as the series went on or if they were always just retconning everything because they were too lazy to bother writing a story that made any sense in this universe that was established in the first movie.

Yeah... I know exactly what you mean about being too analytical now and not enjoying it as much.

I'm 100% with you on seeing certain things in the theater though. If going to the movies still excited me and/or didn't cost a fortune, I'd probably watch a lot more of them than I do today. I saw that first one in the theater and I know it was a better experience than I would have had at home. Same thing when I saw The Ring twice in theaters a few years later.

So you don't think you saw 3, huh? Heh... yeah. Even if I actually did get around to ever seeing 2 I probably would have tapped out after that too.

... Back to the "being over-analytical" topic...

The last two movies I've now seen with my dad are Pulp Fiction and Snatch. He'd never seen either, and I'd seen both quite a few times... although it had been at least 15 years since I'd seen either of them.

But I remember just how weird it was watching them now. It didn't have anything to do with my dad being there watching them with me... like being worried if he was going to like them or not. I know what his tastes are in relation to mine and have a good idea of which things I would enjoy watching that he wouldn't, which would be a pretty small list outside of him enjoying sports. Pulp Fiction was his request, and when I picked Snatch he had no qualms about watching the first US movie starring Jason Stathem, even if he wasn't the front and center action star that he'd grown accustomed to seeing.

So we watched them, and my old man thought they were great... I still recognized both movies as good movies, but for the most part I wasn't immersed in them at all as the plots were moving along.

From time to time maybe I was fading a little into their world, but it always felt so small and like everything happening in these stories were just happening in the little bubble they existed in and not the real world.

I don't know. It's hard to explain. I always had a great imagination and loved reading book

Late Night With The Devil (2023) was pretty damn good. (Australian Horror)

Spent more time watching reviews and retrospectives of it afterward than the runtime of the movie. Especially after Brenda said last week she figured it out halfway through (I still don't know what she meant by that).

Everybody online seems to be going with pretty much the same story about what actually happened, and a few people have some more interesting theories on top of that.

Maybe I'm giving the movie and the writers far more credit than they deserve here, but I think everyone is missing something, and it wouldn't surprise me at all. There's hidden symbolism all over this movie along with other things popping up in the background and during single frames even in scenes where it would appear that nothing was going on but dialog.

MINOR SPOILERS:

The set and atmosphere were great. It felt like it was taking place in the late 70's. The costumes were good. They nailed the suits. I was a little underwhelmed though with the cultists/grove costumes though. Not awful stuff you'd get at a pop-up Spirit Halloween store, but it shows the budget of the movie, I think. It couldn't have been terribly high.

Cinematography was great. Mostly shot in 4:3 ratio, but only during the 9 minute documentary in the beginning (voiced by Michael Ironside) as well as what the audience sees on camera. When it cuts to commercial you're usually greeted with dialog between characters backstage not only in black and white, but widescreen as well. At the end of the movie all bets are off on camera work and they get some dutch angles in there.

My only flaw I would list for the movie was showing a bit too much at the end. Less is always more with the "monsters" in horror movies, but I think that ultimately in the end the studio had some interference and did things they thought would bring in a more mainstream audience. *There would have been PLENTY of people involved who would have had input on that I'm sure, since one of the jokes about the movie online were about how many company title cards there were at the beginning. Some people thought it was a joke and part of the movie there were so many, so whoever produced this movie was worth their weight in gold for how much scrounging for budget money they apparently did to get this thing filmed.

A second complaint would be that they probably could have run that through another VCR filter or an actual VCR before putting the finished movie out there, but again, that might have turned off a mainstream audience.

I'd give her at least 4/5. Probably not 4.5 out of 5 though. But with my heavy bias against Horror flicks in general, that's a high rating out of me.

I think had they showed less of the "monster" at the end and ran that through another filter or two to make it feel even more like it was filmed in 1977 and forced you to watch it as if it were beyond the minor filter they used along with the 4:3 aspect ratio used in 80% or more of the movie, it would have been an easy 4.5 out of me.

Granted, now that I've seen retrospectives on this and I've seen that scene several times now, there's no denying it was a pretty awesome effect, especially given what I expect to have been a very low budget for the movie. I still think there were better, more subtle ways that you could have done it.

I'm sure I'll be rewatching it at some point, probably showing it to other people. It wouldn't surprise me if I were still thinking about it a week from now even without a 2nd watch.

And depending on the ambiguity on the end, the minor gripes I had about the movie might not even be legitimate. With very few exceptions, most of the people who talked about this movie last year on YouTube seem to take pretty much everything at face value. I don't think we were supposed to do

Oh... (SPOILER ALERT 2)

Found it kind of interesting that every time we were saying Abracadabra as kids because we saw some two-bit magician on TV or in real life say the words, we were actually using a word that's been used for invocations for thousands of years, and who's origin is still disputed to this day. In this movie it was tied to an ancient Gnostic entity called Abraxis, whom some believe is actually the Devil and even the Christian God's boss, or even just two sides of that coin, being both God and the Devil at the same time himself.

Cute.

97/100 would be way too high for Late Night With The Devil, but that's not what RT does. 97% just means that 97% of the reviews weren't shit.

72% on IMDB and 70% on Metacritic seem too low to me, but not by too much. I gave it a 4/5, with just some minor cinematography changes and a toned down baddie at the end (less is more in horror) keeping me from giving it a 4.5/10. And that's with my heavy bias against the Horror genre.

I believe it's an 8/10. But I could see that being dragged down by people who expect a ton of gore out of their Horror and would rather watch the 18th Saw movie instead of something that makes you think.

The amount of gore in this movie is very limited. This is probably the main factor why it didn't get a higher rating because the people more inclined to have gone out and seen it probably would have rather enjoyed a gore fest over what they got here.

You should give it a watch now, Jaynez. Love to hear your take on it.

The tier list because everyone is doing it, a concept originating in video game culture, it might be Japanese culture origin, where Super or Supa Gray-do would rank above 'A grade' and B grade you have 'S' tier above all others

S-Tier has been around for quite a while now, but I don't recall the first time I saw it. I know the first time I paid attention to it and saw it more often was when I played From Software's Dark Souls and Demon Souls. It was used in the statistics systems for weapons under the hood, and how your attack power grew along with your weapons and stats like Strength and Dexterity as you leveled up. A rank of "---" meant that the weapon doesn't gain any power, while D-A tier saw better increases per rank, all the way up to S-Tier at the top for the best scaling increases.

From what I've read online, this actually originated from the Japanese grade school system where they do put "S" above "A" to give somebody special recognition for an exemplary job. I've seen that it simply means "Super", but I'm not sure how true that is. Seems unlikely that's what it actually means to me, although they do happen to use a mix of their own languages and English in a lot of pop culture in Asian countries, from anything to video games to KPOP, so it's possible it actually does just mean "Super" or "Superior".

I'll bet that for most people in the West that use it now, it's because of social media and places like YouTube where it seems like everybody makes ranking lists for everything these days. My guess is that 99% of those people making those videos today either learned about S-Tier from From Soft games in the SoulsBorne series or from other people who made videos on them that played them.

Watching stuff like this play out slowly over time is really interesting to me. When I first played Dark Souls and Demon Souls, they were already "old" games... at least 5 or 6 years old. I believe the 3rd Dark Souls had actually come out on the PS4 right when I was playing the first Dark Souls game and the Demon's Souls that came before it. So by that time, my brother and anybody who played these games when they were had already been exposed to the concept of S-Tier long before I would have seen them in those games.

Ten more years or so go by and the concept has become so widespread that Jaynez, who doesn't come of to me as much of a "gamer" knows what it is now. Probably won't be too long before I hear my old man use the term S-Tier when talking about something.

Though it's happening slower, it's like watching the word "Woke" proliferate from some stupid anti-White MTV video made for New Years 2016 telling us not to use a word that nobody outside of Liberal colleges of the time ever used that way before, to being something that all the normies were using by Election Day of 2024 only 8 years later.

Then I think back to the day when I first saw Fran Drescher on an Old Navy commercial in the early 2000's talking to somebody on the phone and saying "Fo Shizzle my Nizzle" (Translate: For sure, my nigga), and I knew right then and there that Snoop Dogg would never say that phrase again now that every white suburbanite soccer mom Karen was going to be saying it.

Australia young soldiers, fresh out of boot camp, find themselves in a Ship Wreck with Sharks or a Giant Shark? somewhat based on the deaths of USS Indianapolis a quarter went down with her, Tiger sharks and oceanic whitetip sharks killed the surviving crew in the biggest attack on humans ever recorded

300 went down with the ship. The remaining 890 faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning, and shark attacks while stranded in the open ocean, with few lifeboats and almost no food or water.

they say the US Navy covered it up maybe for morale propaganda reasons not to give the Germans or Japanese 'a win'

in the 1975 movie Jaws, one of the main characters, Quint, who is a survivor of Indianapolis, recounts the sinking and shark attacks. This scene brought Indianapolis, and her sinking, into a much wider public spotlight 30 years after the events occurred.

The 2016 film USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, directed by Mario Van Peebles and starring Nicolas Cage, is based on the sinking

the Jaws story within the movie now made into a war drama

I was going to say that's a pretty bad list, but then I remembered we're talking about the 80's here and not the 90's.

I guess if you don't consider War of the Worlds horror at all and you throw that into pure sci-fi than it's probably pretty accurate for the decade since I can't really think of any more off hand from the 80's. At least not that I'd seen or remember without doing some digging and remembering things I may have forgotten. The did mention Tales from the Darkside, although that's not streaming so it's not on their list at all.

Putting Tales from the Crypt at number 10 is just silly though. That's just some Zoomer trying to be edgy, not putting that at number one or at least a tie with Tales from the Darkside by not precluding that from the list just because it isn't currently streaming.

That makes me suspicious that this list was simply generated by AI, with both Tales from the Darkside and Tales from the Crypt at the top, but then they added the streaming rule to bump Darkside off the list, dropped Tales from the Crypt to the bottom of the list and asked Google AI to give them the top 11 Horror TV shows from the 80's.

Voila! Almost instantaneous article written with near-zero work and no reason to do anything so brash as to actually watch any of those ancient TV shows that came out more than 20 years before I was born.

Maybe I should go into business doing something myself. Especially with all this AI shit out there. With all the dummies we've seen out there tripping up the stairs and fucking everything up while still being rewarded for it, how hard could it actually be?

ETA: Some more thoughts...

As much as I loved Tales growing up, I've tried re-watching it from the beginning and I got bored with the camp and cheese almost instantly (Which I'm sure I'd do with nearly every show on this list, TBH). I'm sure I could go back and watch a good "best of list" of Crypt, but I could never re-watch the entire show again today. I don't think that would be true of Darkside though. There were some truly great episodes of that show that were genuinely scary. I don't have any memories of a single episode of Tales from the Crypt scaring me when I was a kid.

I feel the same way about most episodes of the 80's version of The Twilight Zone as I do about Tales from the Crypt. There were 3 episodes that terrified me as a kid though. The first was called Special Service about a guy who's entire life was a lie and on camera 24/7. It was The Truman show a decade before Truman Show was made, but it was not a happy story and scared the crap out of me. For weeks I was still going around checking behind wall hangings and anywhere else I thought a camera might be set up recording me. But full disclaimer: I rewatched that episode twice now, with the first time being about 30 years after the first time I'd seen it and it was so cheesy that I had to laugh at how scared I was after seeing it... so I couldn't really say the two below are actually scary in 2025 without watching them again too.

I don't remember the name of the other two episodes, but one was about a boy who was taking a Government test and was really worried about passing it but his family was very supportive and told him that he was going to do fine. But the twist was that he was actually extremely intelligent and he did great on the test, but in this world that meant the Government executed you because it only wanted stupid people to survive to adulthood.

The last one was of a woman who had a psychiatric break and ended up in a mental institution with a case worker. She kept telling everyone that when it got dark and she was lying in bed, she could see people behind the walls, pressing their faces and hands into them and hearing them whisper things to her like "join us" or something along those lines. But they only would show up on decorated walls (like wallpaper) or if there w
