Why isn’t the media reporting on Trump’s growing dementia?
The evidence is increasing

By Robert Reich | Jul 08, 2024

A few weeks ago, at a rally in Nevada, Trump told his followers that boat manufacturers are now required to use electric engines. He claimed that someone at a boat company in South Carolina told him, “It’s a problem, sir. They want us to make all-electric boats.” (There is no such requirement.)

Trump then said the South Carolinian warned him “the boat is so heavy it can’t float. Also, it can’t go fast because of the weight.”

Trump continued:

“So I said, ‘Let me ask you a question,’ and [the South Carolinian] said, ‘Nobody ever asked this question,’ and it must be because of MIT, my relationship to MIT — very smart. He goes, I say, ‘What would happen if the boat sank from its weight? And you’re in the boat and you have this tremendously powerful battery and the battery is now underwater and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there?’

By the way, a lot of shark attacks lately, do you notice that, a lot of sharks? I watched some guys justifying it today. ‘Well, they weren’t really that angry. They bit off the young lady’s leg because of the fact that they were, they were not hungry, but they misunderstood what who she was.’

These people are crazy. He said there’s no problem with sharks. ‘They just didn’t really understand a young woman swimming now.’ It really got decimated and other people do a lot of shark attacks.

So I said, ‘So there’s a shark 10 yards away from the boat, 10 yards or here, do I get electrocuted if the boat is sinking? Water goes over the battery, the boat is sinking. Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted, or do I jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted?’

Because I will tell you, he didn’t know the answer. He said, ‘You know, nobody’s ever asked me that question.’ I said, ‘I think it’s a good question.’ I think there’s a lot of electric current coming through that water.

But you know what I’d do if there was a shark or you get electrocuted? I’ll take electrocution every single time. I’m not getting near the shark. So we’re going to end that.”

I ask you: Is this the speech of a rational human being?

But how much attention did this incoherent ramble attract in the media? Very little, especially in comparison with the nonstop media assessment of Biden’s verbal stumbles during the debate.

Trump is showing growing signs of dementia, but isn’t facing nearly the same scrutiny as is Joe Biden.

In April, Trump spoke to a rally in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, about the famed Civil War battle at Gettysburg. Trump told the audience:

“Gettysburg, what an unbelievable battle that was. It was so much, and so interesting, and so vicious and horrible, and so beautiful in so many different ways— it represented such a big portion of the success of this country."

Trump then began talking about Confederate General Robert E. Lee and how Lee was now “out of favor.” Trump said that Lee told his troops,“Never fight uphill, me boys!” (Historians deny Lee ever said such a thing.)

Trump continued, “Gettysburg, wow — I go to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to look and to watch."

These are not isolated examples of Trump’s incoherence. During the last several months of Republican primaries, Trump repeatedly claimed that his opponent Nikki Haley was in charge of Capitol security on January 6. (Haley never had any connection to Capitol security.)

He has repeatedly confused who he ran against in the past, such as stating, “With Obama, we won an election that everyone said couldn’t be won.” (Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016.)

Trump has confused Biden with Obama so often that he’s had to put out a statement that the slips have been intentional.

Last September, Trump suggested that the way to prevent wildfires in California’s forest lands is to keep them damp. Here are his words:

“They say that there’s so

“Putin and Xi Love Me and I Love Them”

Donald Trump’s public events are a challenge for anyone who writes about him. His rallies and press conferences are rich sources of material, fountains of molten weirdness that blurp up stuff that would sink the career of any other politician. By the time they’re over, all of the attendees are covered in gloppy nonsense.

And then, once everyone cleans up and shakes the debris off their phones and laptops, so much of what Trump said seems too bonkers to have come from a former president and the nominee of a major party that journalists are left trying to piece together a story as if Trump were a normal person. This is what The Atlantic’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, has described as the “bias toward coherence,” and it leads to careful circumlocutions instead of stunned headlines.

Trump, predictably, did an afternoon concert of his greatest hits, including “Doctors and Mothers Are Murdering Babies After They’re Born,” “Putin and Xi Love Me and I Love Them,” and “Gas Used to Be a Buck-Eighty-Something a Gallon.” But the new material was pretty shocking.

Trump not only declared that mothers are killing babies in the delivery room—he’s been saying that for years—but added the incomprehensible claim that liberals, conservatives, and independents alike are very happy that abortion has been returned to the states. (When asked how he would vote in Florida’s abortion referendum, he dodged the question, which suggests that maybe not everyone is happy.)

He said (again) that the convicted January 6 insurrectionists have been treated horribly, but this time he added that no one died during the assault on the Capitol. (In fact, four people died that day.) He made his usual assertion that Russia would never have invaded Ukraine if he’d been in office, but this time he added how much he looked forward to getting along with the Iranians, despite also bragging about how he tanked the nuclear deal with them.

Reporters might listen to Trump and then understandably be reluctant to start typing stories that must feel like spec scripts for The West Wing pieced together by a creative-writing circle:

The former president, lying about abortion laws, said women murder their own babies in the delivery room. He megalomaniacally claimed that he gets bigger crowds than anyone in history, and compared himself to Martin Luther King Jr. He descended into fantasy by telling a story about surviving a helicopter emergency that never happened with a man who wasn’t there.

Donald Trump stored, showed off and refused to return classified documents

Trump faces 37 felony counts — 31 pertaining to the willful retention of national defense information, the balance relating to alleged conspiracy, obstruction and false statements — that could result in a substantial prison sentence in the event of a conviction. A Trump aide who prosecutors said moved dozens of boxes at his Florida estate at his direction, and then lied to investigators about it, was charged in the same indictment with conspiracy and other crimes.

Trump responded to the indictment Friday by falsely conflating his case with a separate classified documents investigation concerning President Joe Biden.

The conduct alleged in the historic indictment — the first federal case against a former president — cuts to the heart of any president’s responsibility to safeguard the government’s most valuable secrets. Prosecutors say the documents he stowed, refused to return and in some cases showed to visitors risked jeopardizing not only relations with foreign nations but also the safety of troops and confidential sources.

“Our laws that protect national defense information are critical to the safety and security of the United States and they must be enforced,” Jack Smith, the Justice Department special counsel who filed the case, said in his first public statements. “Violations of those laws put our country at risk.”

I almost forgot that Trump is still claiming he won in 2020 but his victory was stolen at the last second. Trump is colloquially known as a sore loser.

Trump Stop the Steal:
https://www.google.com/search?q=Trump+Stop+the+Steal

Curious about Trump's Stop the Steal? It went something like this:

We listened as speaker after speaker explained that Trump was certain to win the 2020 presidential election – then just weeks away – in a landslide. Anything less would be a sign the Democrats had cheated.

If that happened, warned a man from the podium, we may need to take matters into our own hands. Political violence, he argued, wasn’t all that bad – American history had been shaped by it after all.

A little more than two months later that man would take part in an attack on the US Capitol. He is now serving an 11-year prison sentence.

Trump is ready to begin the 2024 version of Stop the Steal but when he does he is going to jail this time, not like in 2020.

God told them that Trump would win, but then Trump didn't.
Somebody, maybe God, is to blame for Trump's first loss and there will be Hell to pay if Trump loses a second time. They will stop believing God is good and become atheists to show their displeasure with God.

Pro-Trump Pastor Accused by Own Brother of Stealing Prophecies

By Adeola Adeosun | Aug 10, 2024 at 4:53 PM EDT

cies-1937428

In a shocking familial dispute that has rocked the evangelical world, a prominent pro-Trump pastor and self-proclaimed prophet has been accused by his own brother of fabricating holy messages and stealing prophecies from other Christian leaders according to a new report by The Washington Post.

North Carolina pastor Jeremiah Johnson, 36, who rose to fame in conservative Christian circles for his prophetic claims about former President Donald Trump, is facing allegations from his older brother Josiah, 37, that he has been "completely and totally fabricating" his visions and messages.

The accusation comes amid growing scrutiny of the role played by evangelical leaders in promoting Trump's false claims about the 2020 election and the subsequent January 6 Capitol Riots.

Newsweek contacted Jeremiah at The Ark Fellowship Church, as well as Trump's spokesperson via email on Saturday for further comment.

Jeremiah Johnson said he will end his ministry, Jeremiah Johnson Ministries, after apologizing for inaccurately prophesying former President Donald Trump's reelection. Jeremiah's brother Josiah now accuses his brother of stealing divine messages.

Josiah Johnson, himself a pastor leading a small ministry in Alabama, took to social media to voice his concerns about his brother's practices. In a Facebook post to his 5,000 followers, he questioned what would happen if people found out their favorite prophet or pastor was "completely and totally fabricating their dreams, visions, and prophetic words."

The elder Johnson alleges that his brother has a history of appropriating others' words and passing them off as divine revelations. He claims that Jeremiah once used a poem Josiah had written, titled "the boom in the upper room," and presented it as a prophecy during a conference in 2018.

Jeremiah, who runs a North Carolina church with hundreds of congregants and markets himself as a "globally recognized prophet," has denied the accusations from his brother. In a statement to his 328,000 Facebook followers, he wrote that he had been "publicly slandered, threatened, and falsely accused online by my older brother Josiah."

The dispute has exposed deep rifts within the Johnson family and the broader evangelical community. Joseph Johnson, the brothers' father and a retired pastor, has reportedly sided with Jeremiah, telling Josiah that criticizing the prophet was akin to criticizing God.

This family drama unfolds against the backdrop of a larger reckoning within the evangelical prophetic movement. Many self-styled prophets, including Jeremiah Johnson, had confidently predicted Trump's re-election in 2020 reports the Post. When these prophecies failed to materialize, it sparked a crisis of credibility within certain segments of the evangelical world.

Jeremiah Johnson had previously gained attention for apologizing and temporarily shutting down his ministry after his incorrect prediction about Trump's re-election.

In a video posted to his Facebook page following the January 6 insurrection, he confessed, "I was wrong." At the time, he stated, "I believe that it is a tremendous mistake to take the next four years to argue and debate and cause division and grow more prideful talking about how we think the election was taken from Donald Trump. I actually believe we need to take the next four years and humble ourselves."

However, he soon returned to the public eye with a rebranded ministry in North Carolina and continued to make polit

Donald Trump is yelling on Truth Social that Harris is a CHEATER who uses AI to make it look like big crowds greeted her at the airport:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Has anyone noticed that Kamala CHEATED at the airport? There was nobody at the plane, and she "A.I.'d" it, and showed a massive "crowd" of so-called followers, BUT THEY DIDN'T EXIST! She was turned in by a maintenance worker at the airport when he noticed the fake crowd picture, but there was nobody there, later confirmed by the reflection of the mirror like finish on the Vice Presidential Plane. She's a CHEATER. She had NOBODY waiting, and the "crowd" looked like 10,000 people! Same thing is happening with her fake "crowds" at her speeches. This is the way the Democrats win Elections, by CHEATING - And they're even worse at the Ballot Box. She should be disqualified because the creation of a fake image is ELECTION INTERFERENCE. Anyone who does that will cheat at ANYTHING!

There you have it. Trump has been driven completely over the edge into madness by his tiny crowds compared to Harris's huge ones.

It's been a remarkable few weeks. It turns out lots of voters really don't like Trump's constant catastrophism and were just waiting for someone to make them feel better. That's really all Harris has been doing, and Trump doesn't know what to do about it. Making up stupid names falls flat in the face of honest exuberance, and Trump has no Plan B.

Trump is losing it because he's afraid of losing

By Robert Reich | August 12, 2024

https://www.alternet.org/trump-is-cracking-up-because-his-fragile-ego-
can-t-take-it
/

As the Harris-Walz team soars (polls are already showing Kamala taking the lead), Trump is cracking up.

His ego can’t take it. He is freaking out that his opponent — a Black woman — has more energy and momentum behind her than he has.

Last Thursday, after ten days of Kamala in the limelight, Trump was so desperate for attention that he held a news conference that provided no news.

During it, Trump absurdly claimed that his January 6, 2021, rally on the National Mall was larger than Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 rally, when he gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. (King’s speech had summoned 250,000 to the Mall. Trump’s rally drew 53,000, according to the House Select Committee that investigated the events of January 6.)

King’s rally also led to the signing of the Civil Rights Act. Trump’s rally led to a deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol.

Why would Trump want to remind anyone of what he did on January 6, 2021?

He can’t help himself. He keeps repeating that the 2020 election was stolen, even though the claim turns off independent voters and does nothing to advance his case against Kamala Harris.

Over the weekend, he posted a link to a 2021 document questioning the security of Georgia’s voting machines. When he made a campaign stop in Georgia the previous Saturday, Trump attacked Georgia’s Republican governor, Brian Kemp, and Republican secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger — both of whom won reelection in 2022 despite Trump’s vocal opposition.

Why is Trump attacking Republican leaders in Georgia instead of Kamala Harris? Because Trump will never forgive Kemp and Raffensperger for not joining his attempt to overturn the 2020 election in the Peach State.

Trump told the crowd that Kemp is “a bad guy, he’s a disloyal guy and he’s a very average Governor,” adding that if it “wasn’t for me, he would not be your Governor. I think everybody knows that.”

Trump’s rant against Kemp is particularly absurd because he needs Kemp’s organization in Georgia to help him in the race against Harris.

Why is Trump going on about the 2020 election being “stolen” anyway? That claim cost Republicans two Senate seats in Georgia’s special elections in January 2021 because it depressed turnout among Republicans who assumed their ballots wouldn’t count.

When Trump does talk about Harris, he’s unable to focus on the policies on which he could criticize her, such as the southern border, but dredges up racist tropes such as whether she’s “really Black.”

He mispronounces her name and attacks her with ideological platitudes, as he did last Friday at a rally in Montana when he proclaimed that “America cannot survive for four more years of this bumbling communist lunatic.”

Trump’s ego has been so injured by the huge turnout at Kamala’s rallies that he’s now claiming they’re “fake.”

Yesterday, in multiple posts to his Truth Social platform, he asserted that the huge crowd at her Detroit-area rally was faked by AI. It “DIDN’T EXIST,” he posted. “Nobody was there.”

On Wednesday, he complained that:

“If Kamala has 1,000 people at a Rally, the Press goes ‘crazy,’ and talks about how ‘big’ it was - And she pays for her ‘Crowd.’ When I have a Rally, and 100,000 people show up, the Fake News doesn’t talk about it, THEY REFUSE TO MENTION CROWD SIZE. The Fake News is the Enemy of the People!”

None of this has anything to do with how Kamala would govern America or whether she’d be a good president, but Trump appears incapable of separating his fragile ego from his desperation to get attention and get even rather than get elected president.

He’s attacking everyone and everything. After The New York Times ran a piece a few days ago about the “the worst three weeks” of his campaign, Trump exploded at what he called “the Failing New York Times, which is a crooked newspaper run by a Radical Left group of Lunati

MAGA is now boycotting donuts

August 11, 2024 at 2:00PM CDT

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/8/11/2262049/-America-runs-on-du
mbness-MAGA-is-now-boycotting-donuts

“Prominent” MAGA-world influencers are boycotting Dunkin’ Donuts because they say the company is boycotting the right-wing video platform Rumble by not advertising there. You might know Rumble as the super racist version of YouTube. Ironically, its chief executive Chris Pavlovski claimed the platform “will not be bullied by cancel culture.”

Right-wing extremists are the only ones who can do the bullying and the canceling around here! So look out, Dunkin’. Your 13,200 locations are now added to a very long list of targets for MAGA hate, from Amazon to yoga and everything in between. Some recent highlights:

1. Disney.

This is one of the longest running feuds in MAGA land, preceding the MAGA movement itself. Back in 1995, the Florida Baptist Convention and other groups started boycotting everything Disney because the company decided to extend health insurance coverage to same-sex partners of employees. Then came Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney’s opposition to his “don’t say gay” bill. Olaf must die! (Along with all his merchandise.)

2. Doritos.

This boycott crossed borders. Doritos Spain unveiled a social media campaign with Spanish transgender influencer Samantha Hudson. The company ended its contract with Hudson when some pretty awful comments she made when she was a teenager surfaced.

3. Budweiser.

MAGA has had a problem with Budweiser for years, since it ran a pro-immigrant Super Bowl ad in 2017, just before Donald Trump instituted his immigration ban and tensions were high over his plans. Things settled down until the company hired a trans influencer named Dylan Mulvaney for a campaign in 2023. Things then got really stupid, culminating with has-been “rapper” Kid Rock posting a video of himself shooting up cases of the beer.

4. Oreos.

Seriously, Oreos. "I do not like gay cookies," Newsmax host Greg Kelly wrote on Twitter. The cookies were deemed “gay” when Oreo sponsored a short film together with advocacy group PFLAG depicting a young man preparing to come out to his grandmother by practicing in front of his family. The horror!

5. Keurig.

This is a personal favorite. Back in 2017, Keurig decided to stop advertising on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s show because he is an objectively awful person (and because the coffee company was subject to a consumer movement asking the company to stop advertising on Fox). Hannity was so inflamed he called for a boycott. But since coffee makers aren’t something you buy everyday, unlike snacks or beer, Hannity fans responded by smashing up their coffee makers—which they had already spent money on. Perfect.

6. Lego.

Those on the right really do hate children, don’t they? The toy company came under MAGA fire in 2023 for a campaign in the U.K. that featured a video titled "the A-Z of awesome—a LEGO celebration of the beautiful, powerful language of the LGBTQIA+ community." The company was accused of producing “transgender building sets” targeted at 5-year-olds by Caitlyn Jenner's political action committee Fairness First. The company clarified: "The information on Twitter is false. We have not released any LGBTQIA+ sets aimed at children. A-Z of Awesome was a marketing campaign released last year that featured sets built by our amazing adult fans. None of these sets are for sale." Sigh.

7. Chick-fil-A.

A onetime darling of the far right for its then-CEO’s vocal opposition to marriage equality, the company was disowned by the right in 2023 for trying to diversify its workforce.

8. Cracker Barrel.

The company that was once notorious for being the target of a lawsuit accusing it of “widespread racism, from segregating black customers in the smoking section to denying them service,” got on the bad side of the far right last year when it went “woke.” The crime? Celebrating Pride Month on the company website, along with a pictu

Here Are the Secret Backers of All Those Trump “Election Integrity” Efforts

By Brendan Fischer | Aug 12, 2024, 10:30 AM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/08/secret-trump-2024-election
-integrity-campaign.html

Battles over “election integrity” are sometimes cast as policy-oriented disagreements about how elections should be administered, or even as partisan efforts to gain a political advantage. But the money behind this movement shows how efforts to restrict the freedom to vote are best seen as a means to a reactionary end. Far-right political actors that cannot achieve their policy goals through democratic means are increasingly taking aim at democracy itself.

Wide majorities of American voters support abortion rights, marriage equality, and fair treatment for LGBTQ+ people. Wealthy special interests who want to roll back these rights recognize that they cannot advance their unpopular agenda through the democratic process—so they seek to alter the rules of democracy in order to exert rule over the majority without majority support.

Nowhere is this clearer than in a recent investigation from ProPublica and Documented into an under-the-radar Christian-nationalist-aligned funding network called “Ziklag,” which describes itself as a “private, confidential, invitation-only community of high-net-worth families.” According to the report, the minimum net worth for entry is $25 million.

While most people have never heard of Ziklag, they are likely familiar with the group’s financial backers, which include the owners of Hobby Lobby, heirs to the Uihlein shipping supply fortune, and the founders of the Jockey apparel corporation.

With their support, Ziklag has outlined plans for Christians to “take dominion” over spheres of public life including government, science and technology, business, church, education, and family—called “Seven Mountains” theology—and to fund projects aimed at reshaping and conquering each sphere.

In pursuit of these goals, the group is channeling millions of dollars toward backing anti-transgender ballot measures (one internal document reads “Transgender acceptance = Final sign before imminent collapse”), and backing a plot to “take down the education system as we know it,” as well as supporting Turning Point Action’s efforts to mobilize Arizona voters “sympathetic to Republicans” in order to secure “10,640 additional unique votes” to sway the election for Trump.

Christian right donors funding efforts to undermine LGBTQ+ rights and attack public education may be unsurprising, but here’s what’s less expected: Their strategic plan also includes pouring millions of dollars into efforts to promote election conspiracy theories and undermine the freedom to vote. It calls this funding project “Operation Checkmate.”

Ziklag announced plans to give $800,000 to Eagle AI, a controversial mass voter challenge software program being utilized by activists in states like Georgia and Florida to generate thousands of thinly sourced challenges to voter eligibility. It is backed by former Trump lawyer Cleta Mitchell, who infamously joined the former president’s infamous phone call where he urged Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” for him the exact number of votes that he needed to tip the 2020 election in that state. A newly formed group called “Citizen AG” has also announced plans to file lawsuits against counties that reject Eagle AI–generated voter challenges. Citizen AG’s website described the project as part of “Operation Checkmate.”

Earlier, Ziklag provided the seed funding for Mitchell’s Election Integrity Network, financing events that formed coalitions of election conspiracy theorists in Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida. The group also funded the American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC, to provide “election integrity” messaging guidance for GOP state lawmakers in 2022.

Given that Ziklag’s primary goal is to “redirect the trajectory of American culture” and take control of government to advance goals that lack widespread public support

Oh boy, oh boy! Kamala is up 0.4 points in the aggregate after 3 weeks of gaslighting without any real interviews or a debate!

On this day in 2020: Biden +7.5

On this day in 2016: Clinton +6.3

Biden won that popularity contest by less than 4 points, and we all know what happened in 2016.

Harris will NEVER rise above 1 or 2 points in the aggregate on Trump, even with the gaslighting. She's peaked. This is her plateau.

Once they can't hide her anymore and everybody gets to see how dumb she is and how toxic her policies are for our country, it's all over for you.

Maybe some of you will finally stop blindly believing everything MSNBC tells you once this happens.

Hope you're really enjoying yourselves in the meantime.

Trump held 22 rallies from July 1 to August 10, 2016. During that same time frame this year, Trump held just eight. Meanwhile, unlike Trump, JD Vance makes far more major appearances on the campaign trail given his ability to stay on message.

While Trump often speaks with local media outlets in swing states and gives interviews to “friendly” national media organizations like Fox News, the slowdown in events raises questions regarding his campaign strategy.

When asked why he wasn’t campaigning more, like JD Vance is campaigning, Trump responded by calling the question “stupid.”

Now, campaign experts tell The Independent this slowdown in campaign rallies is likely the product of several factors — including his unpredictability on stage and off-putting theories that could turn off swing voters.

Trump’s campaign could be strategically limiting the number of live rallies as a form of damage control, Evan Siegfried, a political strategist who previously worked on GOP campaigns, told The Independent.

The less he’s seen in public and at rallies, Siegfried said, the fewer opportunities there are for him to “riff and go off script” to spread conspiracy theories and grievances.

“The real people who are going to choose this election are in seven states, and they represent a very thin swath of the entire electorate in this country,” Siegfried said.

These falsehoods and grievances, such as Trump’s baseless claim that Harris “happened to turn Black” to win over voters, are “the crazy stuff” that can turn off swing voters, according to Siegfried.

“They don’t care about Donald Trump’s grievances – if anything they don’t like Donald Trump’s grievances, they don’t want to hear them,” he continued.

The ultimate problem, Siegfried said, is that Trump lacks “message discipline.” The strategist also noted his running mate, JD Vance, will continue to make major appearances on the campaign trail given his ability to stay on message.

As long as I’ve covered Republican campaigns, there has been racial fearmongering: Dark-skinned people are coming to hurt you. Be very afraid.

With Reagan, it was “welfare queens” glomming onto tax-free cash income.

With George H.W. Bush, it was Willie Horton. Liberals would give more criminals like Horton furloughs, so they could break into your house and rape your girlfriend.

With George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, it was Arab terrorists. Democrats would let them invade America and kill us.

With Donald Trump, it was migrants swarming over the border from Central and South America with the intent to rape and kill, as well as the racist “birther” conspiracy about “Barack HUSSEIN Obama.”

Trump, who adopted his father’s view that some bloodlines are “superior” to others, has slipped into the usual Republican race-baiting by purposely fumbling Kamala Harris’s name, mispronouncing it different ways and christening her “Kamabla.”

I guess you don't remember that in past Democratic Conventions the candidate was not picked quickly because the delegates could not make up their minds and settle on one candidate. The way the system works is that millions of Democrats leave the final decision to the Convention, not to retarded Trumptards' understanding of what "Democracy" means. In 2024, the delegates have made up their minds before the Convention starts to select Harris for President.

I guess it's time I started paying attention to what the candidates say.

Not that I expect to hear anyone's actual plans ... Harris is an opportunist who will say whatever it is she's told to say to win (Harris, unscripted, sounds like a slow 5 year old 'splainin' something to a four year old) and Trump will blurt out whatever pops into his head to throw at the audience... but it will give me an idea of who's backing Harris, and who Trump is appealing to.

I already know and disagree with Trump's deep affiliation with Israel and his hatred of Iran.

Let's see what else they have to say.

Time to wade thru the dreck.

Sigh.

Elon Musk and X provided a public service.

The X Spaces interview delivered Donald Trump without makeup or dress-up, formless and endless talk. You might think a major-party presidential nominee would have other claims on his time, some sort of deadline, if only to get some sleep to ready himself for the next day’s campaigning. But no. At no point in the explosion of talk could one guess whether it would continue for another five minutes or another five hours.

Presidential campaigns typically struggle against the limits of time, especially as they enter the final autumn stretch. There are only so many days, so many hours, to reach so many millions of people across this vast country. The candidate’s minutes are a limited and precious resource, to be allocated by art and science to best effect. Yet Trump seemed to have no budget for his time, no plan of campaign—and nothing else to do, nowhere else to go.

Trump’s not running against President Joe Biden anymore, yet he talked about Biden at least as much as about his actual opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. He still lacked any clear or memorable critique of her, except for his derisive comments about her supposed inability to do the kind of interview that he, Trump, was making such a desperate hash of. Trump is the challenger and the topic should be the Biden-Harris record, but he preferred to reminisce about his own good old days.

This is Trump’s problem. For all his jibes at her intellect, Harris is managing time effectively. Whereas Trump, who endlessly congratulates himself on his MIT-professor uncle’s brains, is fast arriving at the “Will you please shut up?” phase of his political descent.

Meandering, solipsistic, and crushingly boring—the interview was an awful premonition of the rest of Trump’s life should he lose again, in November: wandering the corridors of his clubs, going from table to table, buttonholing the dwindling number of guests, monologuing relentlessly until they squirm away.

Trump and Musk are sued for threatening to fire unionizing employees

Trump said, “I look at what you do, you walk in and you just say, ‘You want to quit?’ They go on strike – I won’t mention the name of the company – but they go on strike, and you say, ‘That’s okay, you’re all gone. You’re all gone. Every one of you is gone.”

Musk could be heard laughing and replying “yeah.”

The UAW filed separate charges against Trump and Musk Monday to the National Labor Relations Board.

The charges claim the former president and the Tesla CEO had “interfered with, restrained or coerced employees” who were exercising their right to organize against the company, “suggesting he would fire employees engaged in protected concerted activity, including striking.”

Musk's Tesla, the largest non-union American automaker, is a target for the union’s organizing efforts.

Donald Trump Looks Ready to Absolutely Decimate Truth Social Investors

Donald Trump spent Monday providing free publicity for the main competitor of his publicly traded social media company.

After Trump’s Twitter ban, he started Truth Social and housed it under Trump Media & Technology (stock ticker: DJT). The stock lost 5 percent of its value on Monday and was in a continued slide on Tuesday morning. Apparently, it is not good for confidence in a business when the majority owner of that business spends his time propping up a direct competitor that provides the entire basis for the owner’s copycat business.

Trump Media lost $16 million in the quarter on $837,000 in revenue. That is actually pretty good by this company’s standards. In the first quarter, the company brought in about the same amount and lost more than $300 million, because it is, again, not an actual business geared toward making money. Trump Media is somehow a nearly $5 billion company. Its main business is cash incineration, with a light side-dish of advertising.

Trump Media is a $5 billion company because Trump’s fans think it is cool to own a company that trades as $DJT and supports Trump.

What Trump Media does have is a concrete association with Trump, who the company says owns 57.6 percent of the stock. To the extent there is any business case for Trump Media, it is that Truth Social is the one where Donald Trump personally hangs out, and thus it is the one where his monetizable fanbase hangs out. This isn’t true—the big names in conservative media and most of the rank and file are still on X, TikTok, and the like—but it’s a story.

Trump returning to X blows up that idea. The longer he sticks around there, the more untenable it is for his otherwise junk company—one in which his own stake is still worth well over $2 billion—to retain any value at all. It is staggering to imagine that anyone who has a large, non-short-selling stake in Trump Media would ever have any desire to hurt Donald Trump, but maybe an enterprising class-action attorney would like to take a shot. Nowhere in the company’s “risk factors” filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission does Trump Media mention the company’s majority owner going out of his way to make a different social media site the most important place in conservative media. Yet that’s what Trump did when he agreed to a live chat with Musk on X, rather than Truth Social.

In September, Trump could begin selling shares, using his ownership of this spectacular money-losing venture to redistribute money from his investors’ pockets to his own.

Maybe Trump can cash out and convince legions of 36-year-old men on the Robinhood investment app that continuing to buy and hold Trump Media stock is the only way to save the country from Kamala Harris’ implementation of full communism. Anything — except Trump Media working out well in the long term for anybody other than Donald Trump and a few pals — appears possible.

Hamm, a sharecropper’s son who rose to become one of the world’s richest men, would seem to be an unlikely power broker. He doesn’t travel with an entourage and doesn’t keep a high profile. Yet he has emerged as a central figure in cajoling the oil industry to finance Trump’s reelection bid, and in communicating to the ex-president what the oil industry wants to improve its fortunes in a second Trump term.

His message appears to be resonating with some of the country’s wealthiest oil magnates, who are banking on Trump’s promises to reverse dozens of Biden’s environmental rules and policies.

The money has been flowing in. The oil and gas industry has contributed more than $20.3 million to the Trump campaign, pro-Trump super PACs and the Republican National Committee in the 2024 cycle, according to data from OpenSecrets. Trump is expected to do more oil and gas events later this year, aides say.

The dumbest climate conversation of all time

Trump talked about ‘nuclear warming’ while Musk said the only reason to quit fossil fuels is that their supply is finite.

Trump and Musk both made discursive, often fact-free assertions about global heating, including that rising sea levels would create “more oceanfront property” and that there was no urgent need to cut carbon emissions, during an event labeled “the dumbest climate conversation of all time.”

Trump, who famously once called the climate crisis a “hoax”, also said it is a “disgrace” that Joe Biden’s administration did not open up a vast Arctic wilderness in Alaska to oil drilling, claimed baselessly that farmers have to give up their cattle because of climate edicts.

“The one thing that I don’t understand is that people talk about global warming or they talk about climate change, but they never talk about nuclear warming,” Trump pondered during the exchange.

Musk said the main danger of allowing carbon dioxide to build up in the atmosphere was that at some point it will become difficult to breathe, causing “headaches and nausea” to people. This would occur with CO2 at about 1,000 parts per million of the Earth’s atmosphere, more than double the current record-breaking concentrations. (July 2024 = 425.55 ppm https://www.co2.earth/daily-co2 )

Workers allege ‘nightmare’ conditions at Kentucky startup JD Vance helped fund

As a venture capitalist, JD Vance repeatedly touted his guiding principles for investing in a company: A business should not only turn a profit, it should also help American communities.

That’s why, he said, he invested in AppHarvest, a startup that promised a high-tech future for farming and for the workers of Eastern Kentucky. Over a four-year span, Vance was an early investor, board member and public pitchman for the indoor-agriculture company.

“It’s not just a good investment opportunity, it’s a great business that’s making a big difference in the world,” Vance proclaimed in a Fox Business interview on the day the company went public in February 2021.

Last year, facing hundreds of millions of dollars in debt, AppHarvest declared bankruptcy.

The rise and fall of the company, and Vance’s role in it, cuts against his image as a champion for the working class
— an image that helped catapult him to the top of the Republican ticket as Donald Trump’s running mate.

A CNN review of public documents, and interviews with a dozen former workers, shows that AppHarvest not only failed as a business after pursuing rapid growth, but also provided a grim job experience for many of the working-class Kentuckians Vance has vowed to help.

AppHarvest employees said they were forced to work in grueling conditions inside the company’s greenhouse, where temperatures often soared into the triple digits. Complaints filed with the US Department of Labor and a Kentucky regulator between 2020 and 2023 show that workers alleged they were given insufficient water breaks and weren’t provided adequate safety gear. Some workers said they suffered heat exhaustion or injuries, though state inspectors did not find violations.

Despite promising local jobs, the company eventually began contracting migrant workers from Mexico, Guatemala and other countries, numerous former employees told CNN.

Donald Trump says he’ll flee to Venezuela if he loses the election

Ex-president repeated unsubstantiated claim that Venezuela was sending all of its criminals to the US

The former president made the comment as part of a fear-mongering prediction during his X interview with Elon Musk on Monday.

“If something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, we’ll meet the next time in Venezuela,” Trump said.

He told Musk that Venezuela had gotten rid of "about 70 percent of their really bad people," with the suggestion that their "really bad people" had all fled to the US.

Meanwhile, in reality...

Second has no idea what sarcasm is. You are a miserable, humorless, awful person to be around.

We've had an extradition treaty with Venezuela for over 100 years now, so if Trump was looking to flee Democrat persecution there are quite a few countries that he would pick before moving to Venezuela.

Here's Why Americans Always Think the U.S. Is on the Wrong Track | Opinion

By David Faris | Aug 13, 2024 at 9:39 AM EDT

https://www.newsweek.com/heres-why-americans-always-think-us-wrong-tra
ck-opinion-1938134

This is a remarkable story of policy failure that transcends any single event and tells us, instead, a story of elite inability to consistently improve the lives of ordinary citizens. Progress on the margins, like the Affordable Care Act, is not necessarily experienced as such because reforms left so much of a broken system intact. One small example—my two children had ear tube surgery in January of 2024, and I have subsequently received five different bills from three different entities over the course of eight months for a total out of pocket cost of more than $5,000 for a 10-minute surgery. If Gallup called me right now, you could guess what I would tell them.

The health insurance system, like many other things Americans encounter daily, feels like a scam. We encounter junk fees in doctor's offices and hospitals, when booking air travel, trying to manage our bank accounts, buying a car, initiating cable or internet service, buying tickets to a concert, and on and on and on. Silicon Valley entrepreneurs have consolidated entire industries like music, car-hires and food delivery under the control of apps that harm the individuals who actually produce the value and funnel wealth to a tiny elite. These little cuts suck billions of dollars out of the hands of working people every year while others enrich themselves. Our phones ring multiple times a day with confidence games and extortion plots on the other end. It is harder than ever for individuals to move up the income ladder.

This all creates systemic precarity for all but the upper-middle class and above. Most people, even those with good-paying jobs and the material trappings of success, are only one adverse life event—a cancer diagnosis or a failed business venture—away from total ruin. That's no way to live in one of the richest countries in the history of the world.

In It’s Time To Fight Dirty, I argue that all of the participants in this intra-left kerfuffle are failing to take the structural barriers to progressive power in this country seriously enough. Democrats will not build lasting power by landing on the right health care policy, or concocting the zingiest slogan, or targeting their last few million dollars in GOTV to this or that county in North Carolina. In fact, focusing only on policy or messaging or outreach would be a catastrophic mistake that will eventually land the party right back in the same position it is in now. It makes the error of believing that American politics is all about, or even mostly about, policy differences between the contenders for public office. But you cannot win, in the long term, a policy or messaging fight on a playing field that is tilted hopelessly against you. You can sometimes come out on top in a football game in which you spot your opponents two touchdowns before the game begins, but, and this is critical, you will lose more often than you win. If Democrats and progressives decide to duel to the death, particularly while they are in the minority, over whether the federal minimum wage should be $13 or $15, they will do so from the political sidelines, as their adversaries in the GOP continued to use a rigged political system to exclude them from the conversation altogether.

The unfortunate truth is that voters are rarely able to make the link between the party in power and policies that benefit (or disadvantage) them. This means that even though millions of Americans may benefit from, for instance, the Affordable Care Act, they don’t necessarily credit Democrats for their gains. As political scientists Daniel Galvin and Chloe Thurston argue, “It is difficult for constituencies to form, for example, when policies lack visibility or traceability to the government.”6 Suzanne Mettler has theorized contemporary policymaking as part of a “submerged state,” where government’s efforts are intertwined with market actors, tax incentives, and other complex mechanisms that have the result of confusing the public about which group of policymakers is responsible for delivering benefits to them. Such policies, as Mettler argues, “obscure government’s role from the view of the general public, including those who number among their beneficiaries.”7 Voters are also unlikely to shift partisan preferences based on one party delivering some basket of policy goodies to them—far more likely is that their party loyalties will lead them to shift their policy preferences away from those being offered by the other side. This is how, for example, you get late night comedians corralling Trump voters who think Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act are different things.8 Overall, fully 35 percent of the public doesn’t know that these terms refer to the same law.9 And indeed, this lack of sophistication about policy led to an astonishing result in the 2016 election: “the positive correlation between geographical areas with the highest increases in enrollment for Obamacare and electoral support for Donald Trump in the 2016 election.”10

Democrats didn’t lose a policy fight in 2016. What they did was finish losing a procedural war that has been going on since the early 1990s. Indeed, the election of Donald Trump as the forty-fifth president of the United States was such an incomprehensible development that it obscured a very simple underlying reality: that the pathological liar and delusional narcissist currently residing half-time at the White House actually lost the presidential election by several million votes and took office because of the nonsensical, undemocratic Electoral College; that Democrats scored 11 million more votes

Donald Trump has always inhabited an alternate reality of his own making, bending and twisting the truth for personal and political gain throughout his time in the public spotlight.

Lately, though, the former president’s claims have gotten even more bizarre and outlandish - a trend that just so happens to coincide with Vice President Kamala Harris’ surge in the polls and heightened enthusiasm among Democrats not seen since the early days of Barack Obama’s presidency.

Over the weekend, Trump said that a huge crowd of 15,000 people gathered to see Harris and her new vice presidential running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, at a Detroit airport hangar last week simply “DIDN’T EXIST.”

“Nobody was there,” Trump claimed Sunday on his social media platform Truth Social, accusing the Harris campaign of using artificial intelligence to fake the image.

Dozens of images and videos posted online by people who attended the event confirmed that there was indeed a large crowd of Harris supporters at her Michigan rally — and that Trump is, once again, lying about something plain as day.

Trump’s campaign against public health is back on

The former president says he’ll block funding for US schools that require vaccines.

nald-trump-vaccines-schools

Measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations — the common “MMR” shot that is required by almost every state — have been dipping since the 2019-2020 school year. They are now below the 95-percent coverage threshold that experts consider to be necessary for herd immunity that would stop the viruses’ wide transmission. The number of exemptions granted to families who do not wish to vaccinate their children has reached record levels. States, mostly those with conservative politics, have been proposing further loosening of the vaccine requirements that currently exist.

When Trump starts to badmouth not just Covid-19 vaccines, but also routine childhood vaccinations that have been around for decades and proven their efficacy in preventing deadly diseases, he is adding fuel to a dangerous fire.

MAGA Election Official Immediately Spews Conspiracies After Conviction
GIVE IT UP ALREADY

Election-denying felon Tina Peters complained about “vote-flipping software that is basically in Serbia.”

Hours after being convicted of tampering with voting machines in Colorado in the name of Donald Trump, former Mesa County clerk Tina Peters griped that the outcome was a “sad day for our nation and the world” while continuing to spout false election-related conspiracy theories about “vote-flipping software that is basically in Serbia.”

Peters was found guilty Monday on seven of ten charges after she granted unauthorized individuals access to county voting machines in order to transfer data to Trump allies. Peters faces up to 22 years in prison.

Later in the day, Peters responded to her newfound status as a felon by posting Bible quotes and spreading baseless claims about election fraud.

For years, Peters has fought tooth and nail to avoid Monday’s conviction. When police officers were serving a search warrant for her iPad in February 2022, she was arrested for attempting to kick an officer. Law enforcement was seeking the device to determine whether Peters used it to record a hearing for her then-deputy, Belinda Knisley, who was also charged over the 2021 scheme. Knisley accepted a plea deal, and testified against Peters during her trial last week.

You didn't read this by the same author:
Quote:

And on January 20, 2017, we began dealing with the consequences: When President Trump was inaugurated, he launched a gratuitous, mean-spirited, and corrupt assault on the governing norms of Washington, D.C. and the patterns and expectations of the American political system. Toting with him into office an unstable entourage of D-list hacks, cartoonish weirdos, and dead-eyed ideologues, Donald Trump arrived in D.C. to deliver an apocalyptic, angry inaugural speech that sounded like Ernest Hemingway’s suicide note as interpreted by 4chan. In short, repetitive, declarative sentences, Trump proclaimed the end of “this American carnage” and promised that “from now on it will be America first, only America first.”12

After the speech, former President George W. Bush—no intellectual titan himself—reportedly remarked, “That was some weird shit.”13 But it quickly became clear that “America First” was more of a threat issued by gangsters about the order of execution than a promise to improve the material conditions of the country. Barely twenty-four hours into his presidency, Trump set the tone for the entire four years by marching his blithering press secretary Sean Spicer in front of the cameras with pictures of the inauguration that looked like they’d been blown up at the Target photo center to insist that Trump had “the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration—period—both in person and around the globe.”14 The claim was belied by the evidence sitting right next to him on the podium and by a million first-hand pictures and videos and reports floating around the Internet, all of which showed a relatively sparsely attended inaugural. Those members of the press corps observing the spectacle got that feeling of listening to a wedding speaker slowly melt down, the guests glancing furtively at each other, mouthing “Is this really happening?”

To make matters worse, the political organization that folded for Trump and followed him gleefully into total power had completed a decades-long journey to the extreme right of the American political spectrum. The marauding Republican Party that rolled victoriously into D.C. in January 2017 had lost all sense of public spirit and graciousness and lacked utterly any reason for existing other than the relentless pursuit and maintenance of political power for the express purpose of redistributing wealth from the poor and the middle classes to the wealthy. In the first year of Trump’s misrule, the GOP abdicated critical oversight functions and made excuse after excuse for the barely literate reality TV star in the Oval Office because they realized that they had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape American public policy and deliver on the lurid and generally unpopular promises they have been making their voters for years, not just to repeal Obamacare but to dramatically roll back the scope of the federal government, gut the progressive tax code by drastically lowering rates for corporations and top earners, crush the remaining and embattled pockets of organized labor, obliterate environmental regulations while reanimating the zombie coal industry, and appoint constitutional fanatics to the United States Supreme Court. Most of these positions are profoundly unpopular. GOP elite

How One Retired Judge Made A World Of Difference

August 14, 2024

This interview with Republican-appointed conservative judge Michael Luttig is “must view.” But because you likely don’t have an hour, I’d suggest increasing the playback speed (click the “settings” button) . . . and then only to watch as follows:

> Start at the 7-minute mark. Luttig recalls being called before dawn January 6th, with not the slightest notion he would set in motion the events that prevented Trump from seizing power (or even how to tweet). It is a very human story.

> Then watch (21:25-23:59) as he expounds on putting country ahead of party.

> And (38:58-45:00) as he explains how the Constitution prevents Trump from ever again holding office — and the shame the Supreme Court should feel for finding otherwise.

My guess is that if you listen to those three snippets, you may wind up watching to the end, as I did.

"I do not see any light on the horizon for Trump": Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson on MAGA's retreat

Trump's troops are deflating

No plan survives first contact with the enemy. This is especially true if one ends up fighting an enemy they did not prepare for.

Donald Trump and his campaign developed a strategy specifically to defeat President Biden in the 2024 Election. Once Biden was defeated Trump would become the country’s first dictator and systematically destroy multiracial pluralistic democracy. As detailed in Project 2025, Agenda 47, and elsewhere, Donald Trump and his regime are very well-prepared to accomplish that goal.

Their plan was working. Trump was leading or tied with President Biden in the polls, both nationally and in the key battleground states. Trump continued to bypass or smash through the obstacles in his path and to turn the (incorrect) convention wisdom on its head about how “the walls were closing in” and that “the rule of law,” “the institutions,” and “American decency” would stop him and the MAGA movement.

President Biden and the Democrats were not mounting an effective defense—never mind a counterattack. The one direct confrontation between President Biden and Donald Trump during the first debate went horribly. Biden imploded and appeared to be impotent before Trump’s barrage of lies and manic energy.

Sensing imminent defeat, President Biden made the wise decision to step aside and allow Kamala Harris to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. Donald Trump and his campaign’s strategy is now falling apart, nullified and frustrated by an enemy they did not plan for. Trump’s leadership is also being tested. At this point, he is failing the test.

Kamala Harris is now tied with or leading Trump in the national polls and key battleground states. The Democratic Party’s base is energized. Fundraising has increased dramatically. With the selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her vice-presidential running mate, Harris has infused the party (and campaign) with a type of populist energy and vibrance it has lacked for a long time.

It has only been three weeks since Kamala Harris became the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential nominee. In that very short time, Donald Trump appears to be experiencing one of the greatest reversals in political momentum in recent American history.

In an attempt to gain a better perspective on these whiplash-like changes, I recently spoke with Rick Wilson. He is a co-founder of The Lincoln Project, a former leading Republican strategist, and the author of two books, "Everything Trump Touches Dies" and "Running Against the Devil: A Plot to Save America from Trump - and Democrats from Themselves."

In this conversation, Wilson explains how and why Donald Trump’s campaign has lost momentum and focus so quickly. He also details the advantages that Kamala Harris possesses against Donald Trump — advantages that may be very difficult for the corrupt felon ex-president to counter.

Wilson warns that Donald Trump and his campaign will attempt to use racism and misogyny against Kamala Harris in ways that will likely shock many members of the public — but that such a tactic may actually backfire.

At the end of this conversation, Wilson cautions against premature celebrations and the bandwagon effect because the 2024 election will be a long one and a Kamala Harris victory, at this early stage, is far from guaranteed.

Q: These last few weeks have been a whirlwind. How are you feeling? How are you managing this torrent?

A: I'm doing alright. Donald Trump laid a trap to try to beat Joe Biden, and that trap was to tell every American that the old man couldn't hack it, and now Trump is the old man who can't hack it in the race.

What's up with Trump this morning?
Nuttiness, but he is saying nothing unusually crazy for him:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

Kamala Harris wants NOTHING TO DO WITH CROOKED JOE BIDEN. They are throwing him out on the Monday Night Stage, known as Death Valley. He now HATES Obama and Crazy Nancy more than he hates me! He is an angry man, as he should be. They stole the Presidency from him — “It was a Coup!”

His usual craziness:

Judge Merchan just ruled that I, the Republican candidate for President, and leading in the Polls, am still under a Gag Order CONCERNING VERY IMPORTANT THINGS WHICH MUST BE BROUGHT TO LIGHT. I AM NOT ALLOWED TO ANSWER REPORTERS QUESTIONS. Can you believe this? The New York Courts refuse to act. This is happening right before the voting begins on September 6th. Suppression and manipulation of the vote. Voter interference. This is the real Fascist “stuff,” the old Soviet Union! So much to say, and I’m not allowed to say it. Must get U.S. Supreme Court involved. New York is trying to steal the Election!

How about Trump's VP, JD Vance? Has he said anything crazy and provably false?
Yes, he has because nothing is stopping him except his conscience, something he and Trump don't have:

JD Vance: Amazon funded Black Lives Matter so riots would destroy rival retailers

By Cameron Joseph | August 15, 2024

-amazon-abortion

“Who benefits most when small businesses on Main Street are destroyed? Who wants to see their competitors unable to deliver goods and services to people, so that you get it delivered in your brown Amazon box? Jeff Bezos,” Mr. Vance said, referencing the riots that broke out in the summer of 2020, amid a wave of racial justice protests. “The people who are invested in destroying America via our corporate class are also getting rich from it. This is an important piece of the puzzle to understand.”

Why We Wrote This

J.D. Vance’s attacks on “woke capital” go beyond ordinary populism: He’s said Jeff Bezos sought to fund riots and companies don’t want workers having kids.

Donald Trump says he wants to eliminate income taxes on Social Security benefits. These taxes are currently deposited into the Social Security and Medicare trust funds, something that was put in place under Ronald Reagan in order to help Medicare and Social Security finances.

So what happens to Social Security and Medicare if this tax goes away? Here's an estimate from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget:

Under Trump's proposal, the Social Security Trust Fund becomes insolvent a year earlier and the Medicare Trust Fund becomes insolvent six years earlier. Now you know that Trump is a giant fuck up.

Maybe part of Build Back Better could have been funding Social Security instead of giving illegal alien invaders over $13k in food stamps? Or converting hotels and schools into homes for thousands of illegal alien invaders? Or relocating tons of illegal alien invaders from Downtown Chicago before the DNC? Or sending $300 Billion to Ukraine? Or sending $50 Billion every year to Israel? Or spending over $800 Billion a year on our Military budget?

Get fucked dude. There are literally a billion ways we could be funding Social Security instead of pissing all our money away on bullshit.

Making sure that grandma has a few extra bucks to buy food under Bidenflation is a good thing.

So, on one hand, Trump comes up with a stupid tax idea that will wreak both Social Security and Medicare at the same time. On the other hand, lets make Trump's stupid idea into law and also cancel things that Signym and Putin hate such as support for foreign countries.

Ok, I get it.
You didn't like my response bc I didn't address Trump's tax idea.

So, is it stupid? On the face of it, yes. It ignores the fact that Social Security and Medicare are both underfunded. So is CA Medicaid BTW. You can't just yank out a source of funding without replacing it with SOMETHING.

So I was looking around for additional sources of funding.

If we get out of these stupid wars that we started (like Trump promised), we would be saving hundreds of billions every year

If we stopped funding Israel (something Trump woild never agree to ;
), that's in the realm of an additional $10-20 bilion per year.

If we tariffs imported goods (another Trump promise), that's more $ in government coffers.

I think it's stupid for the government to hand out money and then take some of it back. If you're paying someone the minimum and then taking money out of it again, that just seems like pretty purposeless bureaucratic makework, doesn't it? If you're just going to grab it back, why distribute it in the first place?

AFA Medicare is concerned, you have to pay a MINIMUM of $100 each month to buy the Medicare that you already supposedly paid for through your working life. Like I said, it seems like makework.

So if you want sources of funding SPECIFIC to Social Security, just raise the cap on Ss and Medicare taxes. And if you want to save Medicare, another option is to have Medicare negotiate for ALL drug prices, not just the dozen or so that are in the program.

So, yeah, stupid idea in isolation. Maybe not so stupid depending on other changes.

The US national debt problem really is simple. (Medicare and Social Security funding shortfall is a subset of the national debt problem.)

This is a simplified version of a chart from the Center for American Progress:

See the original Figure 3 at
https://www.americanprogress.org/article/tax-cuts-are-primarily-respon
sible-for-the-increasing-debt-ratio
/

If it weren't for Republican tax cuts, the national debt would be at 60% of GDP, a very non-scary level.

Our deficit problem is simple. General spending hasn't increased, so it's not to blame. Social Security and Medicare spending have increased, but there's not much to be done about that. It's demographics, and both programs are far too popular to be meaningfully cut. Likewise, the social safety net can be cut in only small ways.

There's only one way to rein in the deficit: higher taxes. But Republicans won't allow it — and until that changes there's nothing we can do. Ignore anyone who tries to tell you it's any more complicated than that.

Don’t Pardon Trump’s Pardons

Why the former president’s use of the pardon is something to be very worried about.

The power of the presidential pardon is a holdover from America’s colonial roots. But no one had used it like former President Trump. Over and over he kept pardoning his allies, and then, he’d welcome them back into the fold. It seemed like he was rewarding these criminals for their loyalty, and belittling whole categories of crime, like fraud, campaign finance violations, and corruption. Is that what was really happening?

This week in our series called The Law According to Trump, we go deeper into Trump’s use of the pardon with Ciara Torres-Spelliscy, a professor of law at Stetson University and the author of Corporate Citizen?: An Argument for the Separation of Corporation and State and Political Brands. Torres-Spelliscy speaks with host Andrea Bernstein about how Trump’s pardoning has hurt democracy, and what it means for the future of the country.

Paul Manafort was charged with tax fraud and laundering money for the former Ukrainian strongman Viktor Yanukovych and then lying about it. Trump, while the jury was out in that case, had praise for Manafort, for the fact that he had not cooperated with prosecutors. Then Trump pardoned Manafort.

Trump’s Problem

Trump claimed Harris is responsible for a law in California that says it’s OK to steal from a grocery store as long as your take is under $950. (This is not what the law says.)

"Trump is facing a problem he's never faced," Michael Tomasky argues. "In 2016, he was running against a very known quantity whom the right had been instructing Americans to hate for 25 years. In 2020, he was running against someone who'd been around for nearly 50 years. He's spent his time since losing that 2020 race sitting around thinking about his rematch with that opponent. And now, suddenly, he's running against someone else. And to his shock, the more America sees of her, so far, the more America kinda likes her."

Tomasky compares Trump to a "predatory animal" whose "instinct is to find his prey's weakness and go after it over and over" — only so far, he "hasn't come close to finding Harris'."

"She is not a lunatic communist. She's not stupid, she's not any of the things Trump is saying she is. The America of 2024 is ready for Kamala Harris. Donald Trump is not and can't accept that fact. No amount of staff shakeups or focusing on 'the issues' can fix that."

How Project 2025 turned into the GOP’s biggest political loser

https://www.notus.org/2024-election/how-project-2025-turned-into-the-g
ops-biggest-political-loser

There’s a good reason Donald Trump and his campaign are so desperate to distance themselves from the classified-sounding “Project 2025”: The Heritage Foundation’s blueprint for a second Trump administration is politically radioactive.

A Democratic operative who has seen private polling on how a number of issues could move the 2024 presidential election — like health care, the economy and immigration — told NOTUS that, improbably, no issue was benefiting Democrats more than Project 2025. And, predictably, Democrats are capitalizing on the unpopular plan.

Democratic lawmakers and campaign operatives are trying to attach Trump and Republicans to Project 2025 at every opportunity, which, it turns out, hasn’t been too hard. According to Rep. Jared Huffman, the founder of the “Stop Project 2025 Task Force,” one of the reasons they’ve had such success connecting Trump to Heritage’s plan is because voters intuitively believe the former president would institute many of these proposals if he gets another chance in the White House.

“There’s no believability gap here,” Huffman told NOTUS. “People have seen enough of Donald Trump in his first presidency and of JD Vance and all of these extremists to know that they’re not kidding. This is not some hypothetical think tank document; this is actually their blueprint. It’s just not hard to convince people that’s the case.”

Huffman also said he’d seen polling on how effective the Democratic attacks on Project 2025 have been — and he suggested there was a simple reason the attacks were landing. “The heart of why Project 2025 is having such a profound impact is that it’s true. It’s just true,” he said.

The asymmetry of what Democrats have had to do to connect Republicans to Project 2025 — which isn’t much — compared to the lengths Trump and other GOP lawmakers have had to go to distance themselves from it is one of the reasons this has been such a political winner for Democrats.

Project 2025 Co-Author Lays Out "Radical Agenda" for Next Trump Term in Undercover Video

As Donald Trump tries to distance his campaign from Project 2025, those behind the right-wing policy blueprint to remake the U.S. government continue to brag in private about their close ties to the Republican presidential nominee and how they intend to push a radical right-wing agenda in a second Trump administration.

In July, Project 2025 co-author Russell Vought met with two people he believed to be relatives of a wealthy conservative donor interested in funding the effort. In fact, he was meeting with two reporters with the U.K.-based Centre for Climate Reporting as part of an undercover sting captured on video. Over the course of two hours, Vought described Trump's disavowal of Project 2025 as mere theater and laid out plans for mass deportations, restricting abortion, gutting independent government bureaucracies, using the military against racial justice protesters and more.

The secret plans are "designed to ensure that this kind of radical agenda that the conservative movement has in the U.S. can be implemented from day one," says Lawrence Carter, founder and director of the Centre for Climate Reporting and one of the reporters who spoke with Vought. "They want to make sure that the mistakes from the first Trump administration, as they see them, where not much got done, are avoided this time around."

It doesn't matter what the law "says".

Democrats ran a trifecta here.

1. "Petty" theft, shoplifting under $950, was deemed a misdemeanor, heavily incentivizing taking a chance.

2. With "Defund the Police" being all the rage when street abortionist and meth-head George Floyd died of an overdose in the summer of 2020, cops were unable to do their jobs for years as a result. Most of the good ones resigned. Ever since, cops in Democrat run shitholes are nothing more than highly-overpaid Securitas employees.

3. Corrupt Democrat DEI hire District Attorneys in Democrat run shitholes let every black person who was arrested for theft right back out on the street the same day, many times now with no-cash bail.

It doesn't matter what the law "says". For 4 years now, Democrats have essentially legalized shoplifting not just in California, but in every major US metropolitan area.

Trumps about to fall even further behind. There is always a bump that comes from a convention. And because she is leading or close in all the polls and climbing, Trumps fucked.

Nah...

Maybe a temporary point? You already got a huge artificial bump that's going to greatly diminish anything that would normally happen after the DNC. There's nowhere else left for her to go but down.

Trump's going to smash her at the debate. He's even using Tulsi as a sparring partner now. Not good news for Kamala since Tulsi was the one who buried Kamala and caused everyone to pull all the funding, making Kamala drop out of the 2020 primary race in December of 2019, when there were still 14 other Democrat candidates who could afford to continue campaigning.

You keep forgetting that when Kamala is put under any pressure whatsoever she cracks. She laughs like an idiot and goes on tilt. Did you see how she talked down to Pro Palestinian protestors at one of her rallies? Not a great look.

It's been 25 days now and she hasn't had a single interview from anybody who would ask her anything that matters or would put her on the spot and force her to say anything other than pie in the sky flowery rhetoric.

Meanwhile, she keeps telling you that she's going to do a bunch of things that she could be doing right now since they're still running the country. Things that she has no intention of doing and/or wouldn't ever be able to do.

This is all an illusion Ted.

Keep your hopes tempered until the debates. For your own sake.

The question is, how long can they keep Harris hidden, and keep pumping out the narrative that she's the Next Best Thing?

After all, they stage managed Joe for years while he was deteriorating. YEARS.

They managed to to push answers into GWB's ear during his debate. Remember that "mysterious bulge" on GWB's back?

THAT'S WHAT HE'S HOPING FOR. He has a deep, abiding faith in authority's care for his well-being.

You guys live in a fantasy. When Trump loses again, well, you still won't be able to accept reality. Trust me, you can bet I'll be laughing.

Trump says: A tariff is a tax on a foreign country. A lot of people like to say it's a tax on us. No... It is a tax that doesn't affect our country. (See the video of Trump making this claim.)

This brings up the eternal question: Is Trump lying or is he so stupid he believes this? I mean, who does he think collects tariffs?*

From whom?**

Does he think we send the bill to Xi Jinping, who then sends us a check?***

This is not one of those things where liberal and conservative economists disagree. It's just a boring bit of accounting. But Trump doesn't know this.

* Answer: Customs and Border Protection.

** Answer: Whoever is importing the goods. Eventually, consumers pay most or all of it in the form of higher prices.

*** Answer: No, that's not how it works.

You seem to think that I think Trump will win.

I've made no such prediction. Go thru my posts and check: You won't find a single one. In fact, I have a deep abiding faith in TPTB's capacity to mind- wipe people like you (In fact, it's already been done and you didn't even notice!) and engineer a deepstate win.

I will be somewhat surprised if Trump wins, and laughing sardonically at the even bigger clusterfuck that Kamala* will make of the USA if she wins.
