guess it beats those wild animals or farming animals that do tunes, or 'I Have A Pet' a Cat a Dog who plays piano
but if Jazz people slide on a note that is technically out of tune, then can AI do Jazz?
or maybe you can program Artificial Intelligence robots and software to occasionally play the bluest of notes

No worries man. I'm glad I sent it. I figured everyone's heard that one too many times by this point.
When I was a kid, me and my bros and cousins were big into Weird Al, but when I got older the only ones that really stuck with me over the years were his originals like that one. That may have been some sort of James Taylor spoof, but that was one of the few hit songs he had that weren't parodies of other songs.
I thought it was funny while watching the video that the guy is playing a 6-string guitar even though it's played with a 12-string. Really blows the realism of the video.

In case you haven't heard this one, here's my other favorite Weird Al song. The cartoon came from a fan and this wasn't an official Weird Al video. Pretty sure Al must have liked it because he's only got 1.5 Million views for his audio only release on youtube and this one has over 5 million.

Jordan Rudess easily one of the best Keyboard guys, an American progressive rock metal keyboardist would you say new age mixed with Classical and old Rock?
guy is a freak on keys, guy is maybe somewhat known maybe not as big culturally like Vangelis not Jazz Funky Latin like Chick Corea but among the Rocker Heavy crowd, not as Pop as Little Richard or Billy Joel, because he's Metal he is often over-looked often unrder rated like others John Paul Jones, Tony Banks from Genesis, Prince or Freddy or Nat King Cole as players, people might know a random guy like John Carpenter before they know Jordan...he would not be true 'Classic' like Martha Argerich, Lang Lang, Yeol Eum Sun, Hélène Grimaud, Yuja Wang, Mitsuko Uchida, Yundi Li, Maria João, Claudio Arrau, Stephen Hough, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alfred Brendel, Kate Liu, Dong-Hyek Lim, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Alicia de Larrocha, Zhu Xiao-Mei not a jazzy swung Duke Ellington score, not a work of dreamy like Claude Debussy not a music score like John Williams, he not be taught in schools like the notes of Franz Liszt or Mozart or Bach or Frédéric Chopin but a huge influence and skill,
maybe Jordan is like the guy in the background Rick Wakeman, Rick Wright, Jan Hammer, Keith Emerson, Wendy Carlos, Brian Eno, Lyle Mays, Marke Kelly, Dave Greenfield a sound everyone knows but he's not as well known, didnt go big and solo like Jean Michel Jarre but Jordan has amazing ability and playing
the guy is 'Metal' but guy is a freak, Jordan Rudess incredible piano and synth skills
gear and music makers? Ryan Burson can also make a few sounds ;)

The Double Harmonic Major, it has its own modes or starting on different notes it can have a Balkan feel hidden inside or 'Hungarian minor' or another East Oriental, raga a Gate of Babylon Rock song or Zimmer score for Dune, maybe stories and tv movie melody with motion picture of monsters in the East of Europe
the flat 2 'Jaws' note, and maybe seen as Mixolydian Flat symbol 'b' the 5 destroying the perfect Fifth and no second note it is now a minor second interval from the root but adding a new flavor with a new interesting Scale
they use # for 'sharp' in Hungarian
part of Roma Gypsy tradition or Hindi Carnatic India sound, Romani Minor, it almost says Neapolitan or Gypsy but both Gypsy music, Hungary sounds and Neapolitan are their own rabbit hole of melodic sound and harmony sounds
also seen as 'Modern Greek' it shows up more and more in Heavy Rock or Heavy Metal music
maybe something that came along the silk road long ago and made it to Classical Western ears, 5th mode of the Double Harmonic Major Byzantine Scale, the Orient.

Harmonic Major not 'Double Harmonic Major' a different sound with its own modes, very East Greek India Hindu Egypt flavor
Phrygian with no 'Perfect 4' or a Flat or 'b' symbol on the 4th note is one of the darkest sounds from India Hindi culture, the scale has its own strange cords
Harmonic 'MAJOR' less Dark than Double Harmonic Major but its own strange modes to a typical Western ear, it would shop up in Classical pieces or folk, Western pop songs from the 1910s to the 1950s but it started to appear less
part of Carnatic South India Hindi tradition or Modern Greek musical tradition,

I just found out about this game made for the old Nintendo that came out around 9 years ago. If you're a Tetris fan, worth a play.
Wouldn't be mentioning it if it weren't for one of the songs though...
(Starts at 38 seconds)
What a banger. Only a few true artists/coding whizzes back in the heyday were capable of making that old piece of gaming tech sound that good.
ETA:
I'm listening to it now, for the first time with decent headphones. I think a big part of this song's greatness is what you probably don't even consciously realize you're listening to while hearing all the high level stuff. The bass they got out of that chip is just great.
And it seems to be doing this thing where it's going much lower than I would expect it to. There doesn't seem to be a regular flow up and down to it like I would normally expect. Every time I hear it again I just keep thinking at any point in time that base could and even should go up next note, but it never does. It just keeps going down, down, down, down twice as far as you thought it would, and at one point of the loop even 4 times lower than you thought it would, only for the next part of the song to come up and it's all the way back at the top ready to fall down again like the next puzzle piece you need to place. (And I wonder if this wasn't co-incidence since this is a Tetris type game).
You hardly even notice it happening because unlike your usual pretty short music loops for songs of this age, this loop is at least 1 1/2 minutes long before it starts over, and the next time that bass magically starts back up at the very top it's in a completely different mode and beat than it was the last time it fell down.
This earworm has been in my head for about a week and I still don't mind.

I'm wrong.
There appears to be one single part in the entire loop where the bass actually goes up a note. It's brief (and I have no musical training at all so I'll just say it sounds like a quarter note and hope that gets the point across).
Not sure how long the loop is or when the next time or previous time it happens is, but it happens right at 6:19 for sure. I noticed it a few loops back but couldn't pinpoint it right away. So interesting. I wonder why they broke the pattern just that one time in the loop.
I wonder if that kind of stuff is as interesting to us on a subconscious level as we listen to music and not really ever give it any thought as my conscious mind finds this to be right now.
Who knows? Maybe if not for that single higher bass note at 6:19 in the loop, I wouldn't think the song is half as great as I do right now?
Math is so interesting. Wish I actually learned music growing up instead of playing so many videogames and the other mindless crap we got up to as kids.
The loop appears to only be 51 seconds. The song has so much going for it I thought it was nearly twice that length. I wasn't able to suss that out at all until I found that note and made it my anchor for the song.

ha! glad you enjoy that stuff, I don't really like old game music at times as sometimes I feel its too 8-bit or 16-bit but then somewhere in the 90s and 2000s the sampling got really good and it became difficult to tell the real instruments from fake electronic sounds, I also admire what composers did with such limited tech. Key changes or modulation is cool, sometimes there is a long chord progression or a final cadence but game stuff usual is supposed to catch you like a commerical advert jingle while at the same time putting you in the zone hypnotic. Sometimes they use tricks, different rhythm and melody, call and response, the canon, or one Low line plays something and the high voice plays something else and eventual it add ups. They can have unsual phrases like those ambient techno songs that almost follow Classical music with unconventional structure instead of your 8 bars, 12 bar blues or 16 bars its not 4 bars of music its something else
1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6
a melody based on that can eventually meet with another line based on 8s
1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and five and six and seven and eight
you can repeat the 6s and 8s and eventual they line up
6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 24
8 + 8 + 8 = 24
then throw in funk chord vamp and a poly rhythm and the listener really gets bamboozled
old style music is back now as people want the old-school 80s and early 90s sound trying to recreate a certain style
its amazing what they did with such limited tech
a 'quarter note' would be interesting, are you sure? I'm not sure but maybe that would be 'microtonal' something you do on synth but more tricky in the real world
a whole tone is A to B or C D E ...Do Re Mi are 'whole tones' the half tone is using the black keys,a mix of white and black on piano for 'simplification' they call it chromatic, it would be the single jump of frets on your guitar or bass that is a 'half tone'...a simplification on quarter tones would be bending a note on guitar, or the cracks between the keys on piano, which you can access on keyboard with one of those pitch bending wheels
I might have a listen later

I had a quick listen you're right there is a change but I don't think its a quarter-tone as you say, I don't have perfect pitch but I dont think its a 24edo or 24tet note
the 24 division of scale is a really weird sound
a note like this would not stand out for its Brightness or Darkness or Happy or Sad but it would sound like Modal Weirdness very 'Exotic'
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Western Music used to be microtonal, the Pythagorean Greek, early Baroque the Harmomic series that some Choir or Barbershop quartet use as they tune by ear
but then Western music tried to fix the math of it all, the harmony became a mathematics thing to be solved so everything was put slightly out of tune but mathematically perfect so all instruments in the Orchestra would pit into this Western European 'Perfect Harmony'
what is tone and pitch and what is your 'A' note truly? its a massive rabbit hole if you ever go down it
Your microtone can be 15 tone Equal Temperament 15-tET or 15 EDO, it can be 19 equal temperament Equal Division of the Octave, there is 13 TET, 17 TET, 19 TET, 22TET, the scary sounding 'Undertone' series found on Keyboard Synthesizer where you can play around new scale or harmony
QUOTE
, one might well interpret “13TET” as Bohlen-Pierce, which is very different from 13EDO.

'Sevish' is pretty out there with the pushing the envelope of 'Alien Sound' the Droplet 53-tone microtonal music
You take the Root and Octave and instead of diving it up to 12 notes or 5 Blues pentatonic or 7 Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti...and high Octave do' they divide it into 53 parts
the chords are very weird
Some Arab, Jew, religion Hindu Indian, Chinese cultures still do this microtone stuff
