They're all going out of business. Like, pretty much every single one of them.

Just like we told them they would.

But they were doing all the DEI hires, and they stopped talking about games to scream about Trump everyday.

The rare occasion they did talk about a game, they'd give The Last of Us 2 straight 10/10 ratings across the board at every outfit even though fans knew it sucked and the game only made 25% of the revenue of the first game. Then Naughty Dog refuses to learn any lessons and keep listening to these Leftoid Ted/Second freaks and they ruin the TV show with the same bullshit agenda plot points that killed the 2nd game, and everyone wonders why nobody is watching anymore.

You should dig up the thread where Nilbog and Cap'n and a couple other freaks here were dog-piling me and calling me a nazi or incel for calling TLO2 a shit game. And the funny thing is I know full well I was arguing with at least 3 people who don't even fucking play games and only knew about this one because the Lefty Media couldn't stop talking about it.

Even casting Pedro Pascal in the role of Joel couldn't save Joel from the cancer of the Left.

Oh right... Then without any of them even playing the game because they refused to and were boycotting JK Rowling, they got further embarassed because of just how much money that last Harry Potter game made despite all their gnashing of teeth and calling anyone who bought the game Nazis.

If they're any good, that's probably going to fuck with the mainstream market and their dicking around with the new game prices.

It's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since I bought a new game. We're talking late-stage PS2 era, which was probably a year or two after the PS3/XBOX 360 era began, or around mid-to late aughts.

The last game I bought was Final Fantasy XII. I know I didn't pay a dime over $50 for it.

Now I know that nearly 20 years have passed, and that we had 4 terrible years of inflation with the pudding brain auto-pen for President... and I realize that after 20 years with 2% inflation the amount you should expect to pay is double what it once was... but I had no idea that games were already coming out new at $80 now and the struggling AAA studios are talking about raising that to $100 or even $110 now.

Even if one could argue that due to inflation we should be seeing something close to those prices in 2025, hitting triple digits for a new video game is a huge mental hurdle to cross. Especially when the economy has been so shaky since Joe Biden* and the democrats ruined it.

Wages just haven't kept up at all with inflation, and asking people to spend over $100 on a leisure activity is a big ask right now. Especially when there's so much other stuff to play out there from old retro games to a ton of great indie titles that you can get on the cheap.

Like I said the other day in the cinema board, I've never seen Street Fighter. I think I could still enjoy it for what it was today, but it wouldn't be the same as if I saw it back when I was a kid and had nostalgia for it now.

I've always felt the same way about the Super Mario Bros. movie that came out around the same time. I knew it was disappointing when I was watching it, but I'd come to expect that with bad Batman sequels, all the other bad video game movies, and worst of all what they did to the Ninja Turtles after that truly amazing first indie movie that nobody wanted to touch until everybody wanted a piece of it.

I thought it was kind of cool when people stopped hating on Super Mario Bros so much and delving a little bit deeper than the surface level stuff that is totally ridiculous in retrospect with all the "lore" in the franchise 30 years later that was non-existent back then. It's a lot better than people remember it and give it credit for. There's actually a few pretty smart jokes that have nothing at all to do with video games hidden in there too that just fly by people who aren't well read or otherwise in the know. Then finding out about the behind the scenes story years later was a real fun addition to it all. That story is crazy, and even more entertaining than the movie itself ever was.

I loved hearing that Julia did that Street Fighter gig for his kids though, even knowing what he was facing down in his own life (it may have been his grand kids or nephews/nieces he did it for... I don't remember the story). He gave that role a Christopher Lee level of seriousness when it deserved nothing greater than post 2000 Steven Segal.

That's funny, because I checked out of playing new games when the barrier for almost all games was 4 players on one TV. You probably had some strategy type games with BattleNet with more than 4 players if you were lucky, but I might have tuned out before that too.

I've been out of the game, but I haven't been that distant from it to know that a new game with 4 player limits over a network in 2025 is pure comedy.

Damn...

He's more or less a guy who came around after I largely tuned out of (new) video games, and he headed projects in genres I really didn't have much interest in anyway, but I've been familiar with that name for quite a long time. I think I was reading about him in interviews he did for old EGM mags and others that my brother would give me when he was done reading them back in the early 2010s. He's like an OG legend, I believe. One of the last greats in the industry before all the DEI hires got shoehorned in and ruined video games.

I could be wrong about it, and I'm not going to bother researching it now, but I don't believe I ever heard people turning on him and shitting all over his name like you hear almost every upper-management role in the AAA space today.

He made good shit. He made good shit happen. He treated his teams well and gave them the freedom to be creative without smothering them under insane time frames.

If memory serves, he liked working for the Underdogs. The companies who weren't so bloated that they didn't need to bet everything on every game that came out. I think he actually left a job doing a series he helped create at one point, snagged some of his old team when he left the building and they created their own company that went on to do really well for a while. (probably bought up by EA or something by now, or maybe they're just another EA themselves at this point).

Shame.

I think it's probably time that AAA juggernauts all started falling and dying.

They do nothing but put out the same shit every year, with their only "innovations" in the last 2 decades being nothing really more than woke bullshit or teaming up with Slot Machine companies and psychologists to figure out how to psychologically take advantage of those with the least amount of impulse control and get them to spend thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars on a game that was "free".

You can't have innovation or create good games when you are an international behemoth that is traded publicly on the DOW Jones. It is an impossibility. Not only because of greedy people at the top who only care about themselves, but because when you're publicly traded, you have a legal responsibility to your shareholders.

If the "Experts" tell you that your best chance of making money is by putting out the same shit that made you money last year while taking advantage of your clients so long as you are operating within the corridors of established US law, then you are actually putting your head on the chopping block, legally speaking, if you go against that advice. You can be sued into oblivion if you stand up and say we're done taking advantage of our customer base if that means you're screwing over your stockholders who expect "X" amount of growth out of you, quarter after quarter... year after year.

If you look under the hood of all of these EA's and Activisions out there, ultra-woke DEI hire companies like Sweet Baby, Inc. isn't the only brainrot you'll find under there. They're all working in-tandem with or have financial stakes tied with, or in some cases are even OWNED by slot machine companies that milk all the low-impulse control seniors out of their social security benefits or make you stand back and watch helplessly as one of your best friends gamble's his entire family wealth away day-trading meme stocks on Robin Hood and gambling away the money that could have been funding a 529 IRA on the sports book apps, all without the need to even put on a pair of sweatpants. They get your kids hooked on gambling "fake" money that can't be traded for real currency but can buy them plenty of the digital bragging right bullshit that they want at that age. Then one day all those kids turn into adults who never stood a fucking chance.

Fuck all of you. Maybe even especially YOU, Nintendo. At least, Nintendo of America anyhow...

It's time for you all to face a reckoning you should have all faced a long time ago.

Never heard of Xenonauts before, but just looking at the thumbnail and the title of the video I thought it might be an evolution of X-Com. Looks like some people on Reddit say it's a straight ripoff of X-Com.

I got to play one of the newer ones maybe 10 years back when my brother let me borrow it for a while. It was pretty cool. The OG game is one of my favorites of all time. My bro and I got a shareware version of it with an issue of PC Gamer back in the mid-90's or so that let you play a single mission and we were hooked, even though we couldn't con our parents into buying it for us.

A few years later I was out with some friends at the mall and almost lost my shit when I saw that they made it for Playstation and since I had some money at that point I bought it on the spot. To this day I still go back and play that game every 5 years or so.

I don't really like playing games with a keyboard and a mouse anyhow, and MicroProse or whoever handled the Playstation port did a great job of converting the control scheme to the PSX controller. That's not an easy thing to do even today with a lot more options available to you with emulator support. Back in the 90's that must have been one hell of a job porting that over from the PC and making it play well on a console.

At best that world he built looked like Wii characters, and there were already quite a few other options out there for people to meet up with personal avatars out there, and there have been for 15 or 20 years at least that looked almost as good. IMVU came out in 2004 and looked just about as good IMO. I just looked and it says they're still up and running and they've still got 7 million regular users. Second life came out in 2003 and still has over half a million users today.

Maybe IMVU and Second Life don'tt work with a VR headset and Meta looked a lot better when you were immersed in it than it did from all of those videos I've seen of it over the years, but that was a very costly mistake.

If we were capable of doing a Ready Player One type of world, sure... $88 Billion would have been peanuts compared to what they would have been raking in, but all he did was reinvent the wheel and maybe put a little polish in it.

However Lost in Traslation.....a character M. Bison, is known in Japan as Vega Hepburn aka phonetics 'Bega' but one guy looks like a real life athlete Tyson and so Balrogs real name is M.Bison the reason why it was changed in translation from Japan to names in the US is because the corp lawyer higher ups thought they would get in trouble because balrog aka 'bison' or Byson looks a lot like mike tyson and with a name like M.Bison it was pretty close to sounding like 'Tyson' aka Bison as well so they switched it all around for the US

That attract mode title theme for SFII was a banger.

I think it sounded almost as good on home consoles a few years later. The two systems have very different sound capabilities, and while neither one is objectively better than the other, I usually preferred songs from the Super Nintendo over the Genesis. I think the Genesis version is superior here and the SNES didn't stand a chance. The SNES version comes in arguably stronger, but when it gets to the melody I think it falls pretty flat compared to the Genesis.

I'll bet if they had a way to study it, they'd find that the song probably played a huge part in making it one of the most successful arcade games and IPs of all time.
