Iran is not the troublemaker in the Mideast, it's us (the USA).

If you want to examine why I say that, just look at what Iran is doing: It's sending its fighters into Syria TO DEFEND AGAINST REGIME-CHANGE operatives (USA troops illegally occupy NE Syria) who want to topple the SECULAR democratically-elected government of Syria.

It funds Hezbollah, which defends Lebanon against Israel and defends Syria against our continued regime-change operations.

It helps the Houthis in Yemen defend themselves from Saudi attacks, funded and aided by the USA.

And if you look at the arms used by Hamas, they're AMETICAN. And last I checked, thanks to sanctions, Iran doesn't have access to AMERICAN arms. So if we want to blame anybody for backing Hamas, we need to figure out how OUR weapons got into Hamas' hands.

*****

Unlike Saudi and USA-funded extremists, Iran does not fund head-chopping terrorists.

You really should get a better understanding of who we fund and what we're doing in the ME, JAYNZE.

Who told him that?

That was the deep state once again faking "intelligence" to stampede Trump. Like the (false) pictures of dead ducks and sick children in Salisbury (Skripal event) which never happened, which caused Trump to expel a bunch of Russian diplomats, or the "gas attack" in Douma (revealed as staged by internal OPCW documents leaked by whistleblowers) which caused Trump to launch missiles on Syria.

Don't pretend that the deep state and neocon Repubs AND Dems haven't been jonesing for war ever since Trump was elected. They have been hounding Trump as "Putin's puppet" ever since then.

The thing that pisses me off is that this is the THIRD time that Trump would have been fooled. Doesn't he know by now that the deep state and the warhawks are looking for any excuse to plant their knives in his back, above and beyond concocting the Russiagate and Ukrainegate hoaxes?

C'mon Mr Trump, you can't afford to be THAT brain-dead about foreign affairs, if only for your own political survival!

The Pontifical North American College is a bunch of religious nuts. Iran is run by a bunch of religious nuts. Trump wanted to nuke Iran in his first term. It was because he surrounded himself with professionals to head each government agency that he did not. They stopped him. You'll remember our top general put out orders that specifically said he was to be notified before any missiles were launched. This is why! Shit, Trump wanted to start lobing Nukes at hurricanes.

Trump has no such professionals surrounding him now. He is not well suited to handle the worlds' troubles.

Trump Knew of Israel’s Planned Attack on Iran All Along
Edith Olmsted

Israeli officials say that their country’s deadly military strike on Iran was rubber-stamped by Donald Trump, despite his claims to have had nothing to do with it.

Just hours before Israel’s massive operation Thursday targeting Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear facilities, military officials, and nuclear scientists, Trump claimed he was against an attack because it would “blow” ongoing diplomatic talks, which were set to continue this weekend.

Two Israeli officials told Axios, however, that Trump was lying and the president had only pretended to publicly oppose Israel’s military operation to “eliminate” ballistic missile and nuclear facilities, which was reportedly eight months in the making.

“We had a clear U.S. green light,” one Israeli official told Axios.

This is the same as Trump saying he "didn't know" that the Zelensky regime was going to attack Russian nuclear assets. The only difference is that Zelensky kept his mouth shut, but Bibi had to brag.

Now, who is going to negotiate with a President who uses negotiations merely to get the opposing side to let their guard down?

Nobody, that's who.

You can forget any kind of nuclear agreement with Russia, and probably Iran.

Quote:

In a phone call with Netanyahu Monday, Trump reportedly urged the Israeli prime minister to stop chatter about a potential strike on Iran. But Israeli officials told Axios that the call had really been about coordination ahead of the attack, and Netanyahu’s aides had lied to reporters.

The New York Times reported in April that Israel, which is not a participant in the ongoing nuclear talks, had made plans to attack Iranian nuclear sites that were waved off by Trump, who wanted to continue negotiating with Tehran. The White House made it clear, at least publicly, that if Israel wanted to strike it would do so alone.

On Wednesday, some U.S. personnel were evacuated from the region, including from Baghdad and Bahrain, citing security concerns. When asked what Israeli officials had told him that prompted the evacuations, Trump said, “They didn’t tell me anything, but I said look, there’s a chance of massive conflict.”

For a guy who says he had nothing to do with the attack, Trump has been quick to use the strike as leverage.

“Iran should have listened to me when I said—you know I gave them, I don’t know if you know but I gave them a 60-day warning and today is day 61. They should now come to the table to make a deal before it’s too late. It will be too late for them,” the president told CNN.

He also said that the strike had killed some of the people who’d been part of nuclear talks. “You know the people I was dealing with are dead, the hard-liners,” Trump added. Iran’s top negotiator in the nuclear talks, Ali Shamkhani, has been confirmed dead.

When asked by The Wall Street Journal Friday what kind of heads-up Israel had given the U.S. about the impending strike, Trump replied, “Heads-up? It wasn’t a heads-up. It was, we know what’s going on.”

In other words, Trump was "in the loop" all along.

Just to clarify: Most analysts in alt media think this has NOTHING to do with Iranian nuclear weapons, and everything to do with REGIME CHANGE in Iran. (Just like attacking Russian nuclear assets and deliberately killing civilians on a passenger train has nothing to do with winning the war in Ukraine and everything to do with regime change in Russia.)

The only person in alt media who thinks that Iran has a nuclear weapons program is Scott Ritter, former Marine and USA and UN* nuclear weapons inspector. (He was part of a team that enforced the SALT treaty with Russia, and part of Hans Blix's UN team inspecting Iraq for WMD, BEFORE we invaded Iraq.)

I tend to agree, but also disagree. In his view, Iran has all the important pieces for a nuclear missile: 60% en

Sure. Okay.

I'm just asking why there's any reason I should believe anything anybody is saying about what's going on today any more than I should have believed what they've been saying about Ukraine since 2014. Or WMD's. Or whatever the fuck they get people terrified about.

Don't give a shit.

If the end of the world is coming, it's coming.

What does that have to do with me?

Oh, I'm skeptical about the "reasons" for the war.

This time, someone convinced Trump that striking Iran with missiles and drones will give him "leverage" in "negotiations" about Iranian "nuclear weapons". Very similar to him being convinced that attacking Russia'snuclear assets would force Russia to agree cease fire.

Like somebody convinced brain-dead Bush that Iraq had WMD.

Like Biden and Ukraine. Biden would draw red line after red line for his admin, only to cave a few months later.

The Zionists are Crying, “Uncle Sam”

14 June 2025 by Larry C. Johnson 414 Comments

Israel’s initial euphoria over its Friday morning strikes on Iranian targets is fading as Israeli inhabitants get a taste of their own medicine. Israel’s much touted Iron Dome is a total bust. I have posted a couple of videos below that show the Iranian missiles arriving unimpeded.

In his latest video, BORZZIKMAN reports that the Iranian strike yesterday on the IDF version of the Pentagon destroyed a THAAD air defense system that was deployed to “protect” the building.

Pepe Escobar was interviewed earlier today by Nima and provided some important news from his impeccable Russian sources. Israel, with help from the West, hit Iran with a cyberattack early Friday morning (Tehran time) that disabled Iran’s air-defense system. Israel and the West anticipated this would disable Iran’s ability to track and attack inbound missiles for several days. According to Pepe, Iranian technicians got the system up and running in 10 hours.

The Potemkin Village propaganda generated by Israel and spread by Western media is coming apart at the seams. While many in the West still believe that Israel has struck a fatal blow on Iran and that Iran is just days away from a collapse, the Iranian missile force is alive and well and bombing the shit out of Israel. I suspect that Iran is employing Houthi tactics with their ballistic missiles that are fired from mobile launchers — i.e., instead of relying on fixed sites, Iran is deploying its missiles around the country on mobile launchers, which are virtually impossible to detect and destroy in a timely manner. As I write this, Iran reportedly has launched an eighth-wave of missiles. Iran is going to engage Israel in a tit-for-tat battle until Israel ceases its attacks on Iran.

The following report from AXIOS is indicative of Israeli panic:

The following videos highlight the problem confronting Israel… it can’t stop Iranian missiles.

[The videos aren't available in YouTube. You'll have to go here to see them:
https://sonar21.com/the-zionists-are-crying-uncle-sam/ ]

Another reality confronting Israel is that the United States does not have unlimited supplies of air defense missiles, and other weapons, to send to Israel. For example, consider the limitations of the THAAD and SM-3 antiballistic missile systems… the US can only manufacture 50-75 THAAD and 60-84 SM-3 interceptors per year! I read another report today — can’t find it now — that the US is sending weapons intended for Ukraine to Israel. I’m sure Zelensky will be thrilled with that news. If this report is true, Ukraine’s days are numbered. Without sustained US military and intelligence support, Ukraine cannot sustain its military operations through the summer.

I want to remind you of the Strategic Partnership Agreement that Russia and Iran signed on January 17. Here are the critical sections pertaining to the current war with Israel:

Article 3

3. In the event that either Contracting Party is subject to aggression, the other Contracting Party shall not provide any military or other assistance to the aggressor which would contribute to the continued aggression, and shall help to ensure that the differences that have arisen are settled on the basis of the United Nations Charter and other applicable rules of international law.

So, what does this mean? The right to self-defense is recognized in Article 51 of the UN Charter, which allows countries to defend themselves if an armed attack occurs. This self-defense must be:

In response to an actual armed attack
Immediate and necessary
Proportional to the threat

Israel’s attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, under the terms of this agreement, means that Iran, with Russian support, will be fully entitled to respond militarily. Russia sent Israel and the United States a clear warning… Russia has Iran’s back.

I don't think anybody convinced him about anything.

Whether or not Trump knew that Israel was going to do this beforehand, this DID give him leverage with negotiations with Iran on nuclear weapons. I'd say it's given him leverage with any negotiations with them on any topic. The only question is, is this now taking advantage of a fortunate opportunity, or was Trump behind it?

That's really not a question I want to know the answer to because if it comes out that Trump was behind it and Iran finds out about it that's bad news for everyone. Better for everyone not to know.

Israel's attack on Iran won't give Trump leverage, unless we manage to overturn the Iranian government completely.

And I smell a lot of "if" coming off that plan.

*****

Did you notice the close parallel between Israel's actions and Ukraine's? Both are USA proxies. Both are in negotiations, and both attacked while negotiating and literally a day before the next scheduled negotiation.

So, when it was widely thought that Israel engineered a lightning victory, Trump was happy to claim credit. After a phone call from Putin, Trump is reduced to diasvowing, whining, and threatening.

Somebody, take his access to Truth Social away from him! He's his own worst enemy, and he would help his Presidency immensely if he'd just STFU.

Here's part of the problem

There’s a bitter clash on the right. It could determine whether Trump takes us to war.

The America Firsters hoped to push Trump away from the hawks. The Israel-Iran conflict shows that isn’t so easy.

For months, leading up to Israel’s attacks on Iran last week, an intense and bitter battle has been underway on the American right — a battle for influence over President Donald Trump’s foreign policy.

The core assumptions that have guided Washington’s approach to the world for 80 years are suddenly up for debate. The global balance of power, the outcome of life-and-death conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, and more momentous future questions of war and peace all hang in the balance.

GOP foreign policy has long been steered by hawks, who see the US as locked in a struggle for global dominance against hostile and dangerous foreign powers. They’re willing to threaten — and, in some cases, use — military force to achieve American ends. During his first presidential campaign, Trump broke with the hawks on some key issues, but his first-term governance was largely hawkish in practice.

In the past few years, though, an “America First” faction came together to try and push Trump’s second term in a different direction. Deeply skeptical of “neocons,” foreign entanglements, and “forever wars,” they’ve competed with the hawks over administration jobs, tried to swing the MAGA base to their side, and worked to win Trump over in private.

Leading their fight was an unlikely foreign policy power trio: Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump Jr., and Vice President JD Vance. The three are like-minded in their loathing for the establishment and are also personal friends. It is not uncommon, in Washington, to hear talk of a “JD-Tucker-Don Jr.” axis of American foreign policy. Their increased influence meant Washington’s hawkish consensus was facing perhaps its most serious challenge in decades.

At times since January, it has seemed the America Firsters were winning. In April, when Israeli officials presented Trump with a plan to strike Iran, he rejected it in favor of pursuing negotiations over their nuclear program instead. Pro-Israel hawks were deeply worried about the concessions Trump’s team might make.

But as talks stretched on without success and Israel became more determined to strike, Trump decided not to stand in their way. The Israeli operation began Thursday night, killing many top Iranian military leaders and targeting nuclear sites. The hawks were overjoyed. Trump officials initially characterized the attack as a unilateral Israeli decision. But soon, the president began taking some credit for it, though he insisted a deal with Iran was still possible.

Carlson had spent months urging Trump not to get involved. “The greatest win would be avoiding what would be the true disaster of a war with Iran, which would not stay in Iran, of course,” he told me in an interview at the beginning of this month. He’d warned that US participation in a strike would be “suicidal” and that “we’d lose the war that follows.”

The US is not at war with Iran yet. But the chances we’ll be drawn into one are rising. So though Democrats generally despise the America Firsters’ domestic politics, dismiss them as bigots and xenophobes, and are appalled by their calls to abandon Ukraine — it’s worth noting that they’re the leading GOP figures opposing war with Iran.

The America Firsters have also called for rethinking the US’s approach to the world more broadly. That not only includes questioning our involvement in NATO, but also questio

You were warned about Trump. He is in way over his head and because of that the world could burn. If not because of Iran, then because of something else.

He and his staff claim this and that because he can’t own whatever it is he is responsible for. As President he is only capable of reacting, not acting. And that’s very dangerous.

You were warned comrade. Your logic picked him for the job.

If Harris had been elected, illegals would STILL be pouring over the border.

And Trump, no matter how akwardly, sent a warning shot across the bows of several nations that dump their products into the USA market.

I knew Trump's middle east policy would be all fucked up.

BUT SO WAS BIDEN'S. The Palestinian genocide (55,000 Palestinians killed or starved to death in the world's largest open air concentration camp, so far) and attack on Lebanon started on BIDEN'S watch, not Trump's. Did Biden do anything to halt it, like stopping aid, arms, and intelligence to Israel?

The arming up of Ukraine after sanctions failure, urging Kiev to fight to the last Ukrainian, occurred on BIDEN'S watch, not Trump's.

These policies are FULLY BIPARTISAN. AIPAC and the neocons seem to have Congress in lock step.

If Trump manages to slow down spending on these wars (that we started) despite Lindsay Graham and Chuck Schumer, that will be an accomplishment.

Maybe Trump is blathering to keep Congress off balance and confused as to what he REALLY is doing, but then he comes up with stupid ideas like the Gaza Strip resort and the mineral deal with Zelensky. And he's confounding the nations that he says he's negotiating with.

I'm on board with most of his stated goals:
Reindustrialization
Halt illegal immigration and start deportations
Reach detente with Russia.
Reduce waste and fraud in government .... and Congress (which the source of a lot of that)

NOT on board with supporting Israel, attacking Iran, or any sort of military action v China.

Well, Trump probably can't resist butting in on Israel's behalf.

Interesting observation: Tehran struck Israel's refinery in Haifa, which supplies 60% of Israel's gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. Israel is primarily using aircraft, not long-range missiles like Iran, and they need to be refueled partway to Iran. With the majority of its jet fuel gone, Trump is redeploying a lot of tanker aircraft to Europe, where they'll be available for Israel.

Israel is actually pretty vulnerable. It's a small, highly concentrated nation. Hit its fuel supplies, ports, and desalination plants, and it WILL become unliveable. And Iran has the capability to do it.

If Iran is sitting down to talk, it's probably at Russia's urging. Russia stalled for time for almost a decade before addressing the security threat that Ukraine posed.

Like I said before, I think the conventional "wisdom" needs to be thrown out the window right now.

We've learned over time that the "intellectual" class is full of shit and nothing they say will happen ever does happen. That and despite the fact the world kept getting shittier we just kept following their words right off the fucking cliff like Lemmings for the last 40 years.

They hate Trump because he doesn't follow their rules or their plan. They hate us because we stopped listening to them and we reject the shit world they have constructed for us.

As for US... We need to stop reading headlines and falling for their clickbait and daily freakouts.

Take a look at the news in the last 6 months and see just how wrong their predictions about everything have been so far. You can literally take any headline or clickbait video that Ted has posted here since inauguration day and shut them down with how events have actually played out long after that clickbait ad revenue stopped flowing to those older videos.

Trump isn't playing 5D chess, he's being blown by whatever forces kiss his ass better.

Trump SHOULD stay the fuck out of the ME.

But, but ...

He likes Jews. He thinks Israeli Zionists are like his buddy, Steve Witkoff.

His son in law is a Jew, as is his daughter (she coverted).

Miriam Adelson, widow of billionaire Sheldon Adelson, and Zionist in her own right, gave him a fuckton of money.

Almost 100% of Congress "supports Israel" (just like they supported Ukraine.)

Most of his low-information base thinks all Jews are victims and all Muslims are terrorists.

Trump's big mouth and his even bigger ego are tied to Israel.

*****

SOME of his base ... Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene ... me ... understand what a corner Trump is backing into. The only thing saving Trump from himself is probably Putin, who is likely advising Trump to stay out of it, and Iran to negotiate. Iran has the capacity to destroy Israel. According to the following video, Israel has only two big power generating stations (one was bombed already) and most of its population depends on 8 desalination plants on the Mediterranean. Since (according to the reporter) Israel was stupid enough to bomb Tehran's water supply ...

I'll post the link later.

The only thing that could save Israel is USA's all-out war on Iran. Do we really want to go there?

You don't know what Trump is thinking anymore than Ted does.

Why do you think that Trump likes Jews, just because his son-in-law was a Jew? I've had plenty of family schisms over the generations in my own family just because of who people have chosen to marry. Some people tolerate things they can't agree with while others blow things up about it.

All I'm saying is that pretty much everyone who has said anything about Trump or his motives or his words or even his actions have ultimately been wrong once everything has played out.

And claim that Trump is all about his own Ego all you want, but at the end of the day America is already 1,000% better off right now than it was 6 months ago, and I don't see any reason to believe that's going to stop tomorrow, regardless of whatever headlines are being written or whatever fearmongering the media from any side says about anything.

Things ARE working out for the better right now. And people like Ted and Second HATE this because their party has never been weaker in their entire lifetime than it is right now, and if things continue to get better then the Democrats will just continue to lose power and relevance.

A Son of the New American Revolution
Donald Trump Doubles Down on Crazy

16 June 2025 by Larry C. Johnson 282 Comments

Clean up in aisle five. Someone needs to tackle Donald Trump and confiscate his phone. He should not be allowed to post on Truth Social until some adult with a measure of common sense has a chance to review prospective Trump posts. Roughly sixteen million people live in the Tehran metropolitan area. Where would they go? This post by Trump has caused many around the world to take a hard gulp and wonder if Trump is serious. Telegram channels are spinning frantically with claims, non-verified, that the US is going to attack Iran, but the White House has issued a denial. Take that with a hefty grain of salt.

The White House tried to downplay Trump’s remark by claiming that Trump’s post calling for the immediate evacuation of Tehran reflects his desire to urgently bring Iran back to the negotiating table. I’m not sure there is enough lipstick in Washington to cover this pig and make it look beautiful. However, Trump reportedly wants J.D. Vance and Steve Witkoff to meet later this week with Iranian officials… just one more example of the schizoid behavior of Trump. I don’t know about you, but I am growing weary of his clownish behavior.

The chaos in the Trump White House is not confined to the Iran/Israel war. Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, made the following announcement around 4 pm Moscow time:

Today, the next meeting within the framework of bilateral consultations on eliminating irritants in order to normalize the activities of diplomatic missions of both countries has been canceled at the initiative of American negotiators. We hope that the pause they took will not be too long.

I think Putin and his foreign policy team understand that Trump is a flake and are responding calmly, at least in public, to Donald’s contradictory words and actions. Russia is still ready to intercede with Iran and Israel in hopes of securing a ceasefire, but the Kremlin first has to figure out what Donald Trump’s policy is — i.e., war or peace.

The irrationality of the West with respect to Iran is illustrated by the following facts:

* Iran:
Does not possess nuclear weapons.
Is a party to the NPT (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons).
Allows IAEA inspections.
Reports on the movement of enriched uranium.
Under constant international pressure and sanctions.
Declared a threat – only for the potential possibility of creating nuclear weapons.

* Israel:
De facto possesses a nuclear arsenal (estimates: ~80-200 warheads).Did not sign the NPT.
Does not allow international inspectors.
Completely classifies the nuclear program.
Receives support and military assistance from the West.
Declared a “stronghold of democracy” and allegedly a victim.

In other words, Iran, the one country that does not have a nuke and is abiding by international law governing nuclear weapons, is the villain, while Israel, who is flouting those laws, is being treated as the victim. Yeah, that makes sense.

Speaking of making sense, Tucker Carlson had the audacity to point out that Trump’s support of Israel’s war on Iran borders is political suicide for Trump. Instead of thanking Tucker for the warning, Trump attacked Carlson:

Yeah, Tucker should give up his internet platform, which attracts millions of views, and get back on some irrelevant network that only attracts less than a million viewers. Gotta give Trump credit… he has a knack for posting some really stupid tweets.

Who Is in Charge of the Government?
And does he know what his own positions are?

By Ben Mathis-Lilley | June 17, 2025 5:54 PM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2025/06/donald-trump-reversal-iran
-ice-raids.html

Two stories in the news this week raise the question of who is currently in charge of the world’s most powerful country, the United States.

First, there’s the Wall Street Journal piece about how the U.S. government does not believe Israel’s claim that Iran is moving forward with an attempt to build a nuclear weapon.

Long story short, the U.S. didn’t support Israel’s military escalation against Iran because it doesn’t believe what Israel says about Iran’s nuclear plans. (In the New York Times’ phrasing, it “distanced itself from the strikes” via a statement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.)

Except that, as the Journal notes, Donald Trump now says that Iran is “very close” to building a nuclear weapon; Trump is also, according to multiple Tuesday reports, considering ordering the U.S. military to bomb the country too. What changed? Not a ton, at least as far as new intelligence, input from allies, or Iranian belligerence. It’s just that Trump, in the Times’ euphemistic description, has “cycled” to a different position, one on which he “continues to gyrate.” (Sounds beautiful, perhaps even alluring.) Does he know what his own position was a few days ago? Who can say! According to the Times’ report, which, euphemisms aside, is impressively detailed, Trump told “associates” last week that he had urged Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, not to attack Iran—only to begin telling reporters this week that he “had played a bigger behind-the-scenes role in the war than people realized.” (The paper suggests that the president’s change of heart may have come after he got excited watching footage of Israeli strikes on Fox News.)

In a similar vein, there is the Washington Post’s new report that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have told agents to “continue conducting immigration raids at agricultural businesses, hotels and restaurants.” This reverses a directive not to target those venues that was itself issued last week, after Trump posted on his Truth Social site that ICE would back off farms and hotels because “very good, long time workers” were being detained. Compounding the confusion, the (new) Post report notes that the directive that was issued because of Trump’s post has been overruled because “the White House did not support it.” Who runs the White House? I thought it was the president!

These are things that have happened only this week. In late May, the State Department announced that it would be revoking visas issued to Chinese students in the U.S. who have “connections to the Chinese Communist Party” or study in “critical fields.” But last Wednesday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that “Chinese students using our colleges and universities” have “always been good with me.” What else might turn out to be American policy, or have been American policy already, unbeknownst to President Memento (2001, dir. Christopher Nolan) and/or the members of his Cabinet? It will be exciting to find out.

Who’s in charge of the government?

Congress Has One Way to Stop Trump From Going to War With Iran

A War Powers Resolution would prohibit the "United States Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran."

By Jessica Washington | June 17 2025, 7:39 p.m.

As President Donald Trump draws the United States perilously close to war with Iran, some members of Congress are working across the aisle in an attempt to reign him in.

On Tuesday, Representatives Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Ro Khanna, D-Calif., introduced a War Powers Resolution, which would prohibit the “United States Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Senator Tim Kaine, D-Va., introduced similar legislation in the Senate on Monday.

“U.S. involvement in Israel’s war with Iran is a red line. We need Congress to speak out about that and pass a resolution prohibiting that,” Rep. Khanna told The Intercept. “And we need the United States to try to bring this war between Israel and Iran to an end.”

The War Powers Resolution, enacted in 1973, requires an act of Congress to declare a war. Over the decades, however, presidents have repeatedly ignored the federal law to deploy U.S. troops overseas without Congressional approval, ensnaring the U.S. in numerous foreign wars. Massie noted in his press release that War Powers Resolutions are privileged in the House and “can be called up for debate and a floor vote after 15 calendar days without action in committee.”

The resolution comes against a backdrop of escalating missile strikes between Israel and Iran over the last five days, beginning with Israel’s attack on Iranian nuclear and military facilities ahead of scheduled negotiations between the U.S. and Iranian leadership.

As attacks have continued, so too have concerns about direct U.S. involvement in the conflict. On Tuesday, Trump ratcheted up those fears with a string of Truth Social posts taunting the Iranian regime and calling for its surrender.

“We now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran,” he wrote. “Iran had good sky trackers and other defensive equipment, and plenty of it, but it doesn’t compare to American made, conceived, and manufactured ‘stuff.’ Nobody does it better than the good ol’ USA.”

In another post, he claimed to have the location of Iran’s Supreme leader. “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there – We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now,” Trump wrote. And in a third post, he called for Iran’s “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” News reports emerged Tuesday afternoon that in a meeting in the White House situation room, Trump told officials he was considering joining Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Even before Tuesday, lawmakers expressed concerns about the lack of clarity from the president and senior military leadership. Last week, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth refused to offer assurances to Rep. Khanna that the U.S. would stand up to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and not get dragged into the oncoming conflict. And on Monday, while leaving the Group of Seven summit in Alberta, Canada, Trump refused to answer a reporter’s questions about whether the U.S. military would get involved in the war.

“I don’t want to talk about that,” he told reporters.

Congresswoman Summer Lee D-Pa., told The Intercept that it is Congress’s duty to intervene and prevent Trump from usurping their authority.

“Since taking office, Trump has continuously tried to supersede Congress and is now using the escalating crisis between Israel and Iran to justify executive overreach. Congressional authorization is not optional, and many are already opposed to being dragged into another endless war,” wrote Rep. Lee in a statement.

The Pennsylvania representative also alluded to

Strange because Trump doesn’t have a foreign policy

What he has instead is the promise of chaos.

https://www.vox.com/on-the-right-newsletter/417156/trump-foreign-polic
y-ukraine-israel-iran

For years, there has been an increasingly bitter foreign policy fight between two factions of the Republican Party. On one hand, you have the GOP hawks like Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC) who want the United States to impose its will on the world by force. On the other, you have the “America First” crowd — like Tucker Carlson and Vice President JD Vance — who want the US to withdraw from international commitments and refocus its attention on domestic concerns.

The big question, as always, is where President Donald Trump lands. If Trump says that the MAGA foreign policy is one thing, then that’s what it is — and the rest of the party falls in line.

On one read, Trump’s early response to the Israel-Iran war settles the debate in the hawks’ favor. After months of opposing an Israeli strike, Trump rapidly flipped after the attack looked more and more successful. Since then, his rhetoric has grown increasingly heated, opening the door to possible US involvement. And he has publicly attacked Carlson for criticizing the war, writing on Truth Social that “somebody [should] please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that, ‘IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!’”

And yet, I think the factional debate remains far less settled than it seems. In fact, I believe it will remain unsettled as long as Trump is in power.

Trump’s own foreign policy thinking does not align neatly with either of the two main camps. The president does not do systematic foreign policy, but rather acts on the basis of a collection of impulses that could never amount to anything so grandiose as a doctrine. Those gut instincts include a sense that the United States should look out for itself only, ignore any rules or norms that might constrain it, use force aggressively without regard to civilian casualties, and seek “deals” with other states that advantage the United States and/or make Donald Trump look good personally.

It looks, in effect, like an internationalized version of Trump’s approach to New York real estate in the 1980s and 1990s.

This isn’t a new observation: I’ve been making versions of this case since his 2016 campaign, and it’s been well-supported by both his first term and early second-term record.

But its significance for US policy is widely underappreciated. His lack of ideology does not mean that he can be permanently persuaded by one faction or the other, but rather produces volatility. The president has teetered back and forth between interventionism and isolationism, depending on the interplay between Trump’s idiosyncratic instincts and whoever he’s talking with on a particular day.

Given the near-dictatorial power modern presidents have over foreign policy, this will likely produce something worse than ideological rigidity: an incoherent, mutually contradictory policy that ends up undermining itself at every turn. At a moment of acute geopolitical peril, when Trump’s ascendant hawkish allies are calling for yet another war of regime change in the Middle East, it’s easy to see how that could end in true disaster.

Trump’s real foreign policy guide is his instincts

Foreign policy analysts like to talk a lot about “grand strategy.” What they mean by this is a vision that identifies the objectives leaders want to accomplish in world politics — like, say, protecting American territories from physical threats — and then develops a series of specific policies designed to work together in accomplishing that goal.

Both the right’s hawks and the America First crowd have distinct visions of grand strategy.

The hawks start from the premise that the United States benefits from being the world’s dominant power, and from there

Trump’s Vagueness on Iran Is Not Strategic

By Fred Kaplan | June 20, 2025 11:00 AM

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2025/06/donald-trump-iran-war-isra
el-two-weeks.html

What is Donald Trump up to? What is he trying to accomplish? Asked by reporters on Tuesday whether he’ll join Israel in its attacks on Iran, the president replied, “I may do it, I may not do it,” adding, “Nobody knows what I’m going to do.”

Sometimes a remark like this can be useful; it can prod an adversary into behaving with caution. Trump’s supporters have lauded him for his mastery of “strategic ambiguity” — a term coined by scholars of international relations to describe policies designed to deter aggression without quite spelling out the consequences.

But that’s not what’s going on here. In order for this ambiguity to be effective, leaders should have an idea of what they would do if war came — of how they would like to see the conflict play out.

Yet it’s clear, from all evidence, that Trump himself is among those who don’t know what he’s going to do. His contradictions breed only confusion; they might rein in Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but they might also spur him to take gigantic risks, believing (or hoping) that the threats are just bluffs. In any case, Trump has lost control of the narrative — the opposite of what any leader, much less a superpower, should do while playing this game.

Trump has gone back and forth on the question of whether to join Israel’s attacks on Iran, but in the past few days his words and deeds seemed to indicate that U.S. intervention was imminent. He warned residents of Tehran — a city of 9 million people, in a country of 90 million — to evacuate immediately. He said he’d given Iran an “ultimatum.” He said that when his emissary started negotiations with Iranians to get them to give up their nuclear program, he gave them a 60-day deadline — and “today is 61, right?” He said he was demanding “unconditional surrender.” He said he knew where “the so-called Supreme Leader” was hiding, though he wasn’t going to kill him — “not now,” anyway, suggesting that he might do so later (something that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu definitely would like to see happen).

Then came his “To be, or not to be” act — maybe he’ll attack, maybe he won’t, “nobody knows what I’m going to do.” Now Trump says he’ll decide what to do within the next two weeks.

This is not strategic ambiguity; it is, at best, ambivalence. In any case, a leader should not utter the rather definitive statements that Trump has uttered the past few days if he still hadn’t made up his mind, or if his mind was whirring like a strobe light.

Given Trump’s consistent record of inconsistency — his frequent threats, followed by reversals (and sometimes reversals of reversals), whether on tariffs, foreign conquests (cf. Greenland, Panama, Canada), or deporting migrants — Khamenei could reasonably conclude that the threats of recent days are more of the same and that, therefore, he needn’t back down. This, of course, could lead to catastrophe, especially if Trump decided to follow through this time — and Khamenei followed through on his own threats to unleash hundreds of missiles against Israel and U.S. bases throughout the Middle East if Trump intervenes.

Whatever happens, world leaders — all of whom are closely watching these events — are learning that nothing this president says should be taken seriously. Again, this is not strategic ambiguity. It’s merely the rantings of an overconfident president who thinks that acting tough gets results but doesn’t know what results he wants.

The best thing Trump could have done, when reporters asked him what he might do or not do in Iran, was to say nothing. Yes, he should have publicly noted that Iran’s pace of uranium enrichment is concerning, that he is considering a range of options. It was also a good idea, in and of itself, to move military assets, especially cargo-transport planes and aircraft carrier groups, into the region — whether as a deterrent or prepara

The current thought is that like the Houthis, most of Iran's missiles are underground and that they have thousands left. Iran has a population of 90 million. Israel used to be 10 million, by now maybe 9 million. Israel's industry is densely concentrated and lacks depth, and is calculated to run out of air defense missiles in 10 days or so. It can't replace what it's lost.

What Iran has done... some say ... is instead of saturating Israel with all of its missiles all at once, Iran has stretched this out into ... wait for it ... attritional warfare.

Trump will probably bomb Iran. He's gone too far down the military path. Too many resources committed, too many bases and outposts evacuated. Those itching for war will tell him that since he's already spent so much moving aircraft carriers into position and made such a big deal about Iran SURRENDERING! etc etc he needs to finish what he started or once again be accused of being the TACO President. Damn, but he REALLY paints himself into corners with his stupid posts.

And even tho THGR poo-pooed the idea of us using a tactical nuke on Fordow (as Scott Ritter discussed) that is EXACTLY what is being discussed.

"Nobody would use a nuke on a country that has no nukes"?

Why not, THGR? WE did!

Russia and China are dividing up areas of responsibility for Iran. Russia's and Iran's history is an unhappy one, as Russia tried, and at times succeeded, in taking over parts of Iran as recently as 1946. So even tho Russia and Iran signed some sort of security agreement, it didn't include air defenses or a mutual defense pact. Possibly Iran will accept help from China more willingly.

Many moving parts.

Trump may do what he did in Syria in his first term: huff and puff, then send some PR strikes into Iran, aimed at nothing important, dust his hands: "Mission accomplished". If that's all that happens, we'll be lucky.

Hoo boy...

Dem Jewz really pushed the limit of Fatigue over the years too, huh?

I never thought I'd see the day where both the right and the left and everyone in between (outside of NeoLibs and NeoCons) was calling out their chronic, awful behavior.

Mayhap Isreal is as jittery and trigger happy as the Democratic Party here is with their chronic low-level activist lawsuits desperately flying out every other day?

Because after decades of being able to be White whenever that suited them, but then throw out the "Jewish Shield" whenever they step way out of line on something, it doesn't appear that is flying in 2025 any more than Democratic Party race/sex cards and emotional blackmail has typically worked for them all of my life.

I don't even know what my opinion on that is. I just find it extremely interesting where the Jewish community finds itself in 2025 vs only 5 years ago, or certainly as far back as 9/11 and the decades before then.

Did hanging WWII ovens around everyone's neck for 80 years finally get old?

Maybe somebody should do a remake of Schindler's List right now and see what the public perception is and whether it ends up being a flop or not.

I'd certainly love to see the results of that experiment.

(*Wow... I thought we could do it in time to make the 30th anniversary of the original release, but I just checked and Schindler's List came out 32 years ago. God I'm old!)[

What Iran Knows About Trump

The mullahs of Iran join the bet that Trump always chickens out.

President Donald Trump is being pulled toward war in the Middle East by his predator’s eye for a victim’s weakness and his ego’s need to claim the work of others as his own. But since his “unconditional surrender” social-media post on Tuesday, other Trump instincts have asserted themselves: above all, his fear of responsibility.

Trump enjoys wielding power. He flinches from accountability. Days ago, Trump seemed to hunger for entry into Israel’s war. A dramatic victory seemed poised to tumble into somebody’s lap. Why not his? But as the hours passed, Trump reconsidered. Instead of acting, he postponed. He said that a decision would come within “two weeks.”

Time for diplomacy to work? Perhaps that might be the case in another administration. In this one, as attentive Trump watchers have learned, the “two weeks” promise is a way of shirking a decision altogether, whether on Russia sanctions (deadline lapsed June 11, without action), trade deals (deadline lapsed June 12, without result), or a much-heralded infrastructure program (deadline lapsed May 20, 2017, without action then or ever).

During his first term, Trump claimed to have taken the U.S. to the verge of war with Iran in the summer of 2019, only to cancel the mission (again, by his own account) 10 minutes before mission launch. The story, as Trump told it, can hardly have impressed the rulers of Iran with the U.S. president’s commitment and resolve. But the experience of 2019 could suggest to the Iranian regime a strategy for 2025:

Step 1: Absorb the Israeli strikes, as painful and humiliating as they are.

Step 2: Mobilize Russian President Vladimir Putin to dissuade Trump from military action.

Step 3: Agree to return to negotiations if Trump forces a cease-fire on Israel.

Step 4: Dawdle, obfuscate, and generally play for time.

Step 5: Reconstitute whatever remains of the Iranian nuclear program.

This strategy would play on all of Trump’s pressure points, especially his unwillingness to ever do anything that Putin does not want. It would leave Israel in the lurch, but over the years Trump has left many other allies like that.

Trump is vulnerable to the negotiate-to-delay strategy because he has not taken any of the necessary steps to lead the nation into the war he once seemed ready to join.

Trump has not asked Congress for any kind of authorization. The decision, he insists, will be his and his alone. Which will be feasible if the operation turns out as Ronald Reagan’s invasion of Grenada did in 1983: over in a few days with few U.S. casualties and at minimal cost. But Grenada was a nearby island nation with a population of less than 100,000; Iran is a regional power with a population of more than 90 million.

War with Iran will also need real money. The 78-day air war against Serbia in 1998 cost the U.S. and its NATO allies a comparatively modest $7 billion (about $14 billion in today’s dollars). Iran is likely to prove a more dangerous enemy than Serbia was. Israel’s air war against Iran costs about $1 billion a day, according to estimates published by Ynet News. A fight with Iran will likely require some kind of supplemental appropriation above the present defense budget. Congress may balk at funding a costly war it did not approve in the first place.

Trump has not put competent leadership in charge of the nation’s defense or domestic security. Trump’s secretary of defense is accused by his own former advisers and friends of playacting a role that completely exceeds his abilities. If Iran retaliates with terror attacks inside the United States or on American interests abroad, it will find the U.S. desperately vulnerable. Trump purged experienced leaders from counterterrorism jobs. He installed underqualified culture warriors atop the FBI, and appointed at the Department of Homeland Se

American Democracy Might Not Survive a War With Iran

The United States is well down the road to dictatorship. Imagine what Trump would do with a state of war.

The current debate over bombing Iran is surreal. To begin with, bombardment is unlikely to lead to a satisfactory outcome. If history has shown one thing, it is that achieving a lasting resolution by bombing alone is almost impossible. There was a reason the United States sent ground forces into Iraq in 2003, and it was not to plant democracy. It was that American officials believed they could not solve the problem of Saddam Hussein’s weapons programs simply by bombing. They had tried that. The Clinton administration bombed Iraq for four days in 1998. At the end, they had no idea what they had destroyed and what they hadn’t. They certainly knew they had not put a permanent end to the program. In 2003, if George W. Bush thought he could have permanently ended Saddam’s weapons programs by bombing alone, he would have taken that option.

Iran today poses the same dilemma. America’s weapons may be better than they were in 2003, its intelligence capabilities greater, and Iran may be weaker than it was even a year ago, but the problem remains. Bombing alone will not achieve a verifiable and lasting end to Iran’s nuclear program. It can buy time, and Israel’s strikes have done that. American strikes could extend that period, but a determined Iranian regime will likely try again. A permanent solution would require a far more intrusive international verification regime, which in turn would require a ground presence for protection.

However, that is not the main reason I oppose bombing Iran. Nor is it the reason I find the discussion of all of this so bizarre. You would never know, as The New York Times churns out its usual policy-option thumb-suckers, that the United States is well down the road to dictatorship at home.

That is the context in which a war with Iran will occur. Donald Trump has assumed dictatorial control over the nation’s law enforcement. The Justice Department, the police, ICE agents, and the National Guard apparently answer to him, not to the people or the Constitution. He has neutered Congress by effectively taking control of the power of the purse. And, most relevant in Iran’s case, he is actively and openly turning the U.S. military into his personal army, for use as he sees fit, including as a tool of domestic oppression. Whatever action he does or doesn’t take in Iran will likely be in furtherance of these goals. When he celebrates the bombing of Iran, he will be celebrating himself and his rule. The president ordered a military parade to honor his birthday. Imagine what he will do when he proclaims military success in Iran. The president is working to instill in our nation’s soldiers a devotion to him and him alone. Imagine how that relationship will blossom if he orders what he will portray as a successful military mission.

Indeed, I can think of nothing more perilous to American democracy right now than going to war. Think of how Trump can use a state of war to strengthen his dictatorial control at home. Trump declared a state of national emergency in response to a nonexistent “invasion” by Venezuelan gangs. Imagine what he will do when the United States is actually at war with a real country, one that many Americans fear. Will he tolerate dissent in wartime? Woodrow Wilson locked up peace activists, including Eugene V. Debs. You think Trump won’t? He has been locking people up on flimsier excuses in peacetime. Even presidents not bent on dictatorship have taken measures in wartime that would otherwise be unthinkable.

Then there is the matter of terrorism. What if Iran is able to pull off a terrorist attack on U.S. soil in retaliation for an American strike? Or even just tries and fails? The courts will permit a president almost anything in the aftermath of an attack: Any restraints the

That's David Frum goading Trump into attacking Iran by playing on Trump's weak point: his ego.

Instead of discussing the issues...

* Is an attack TRULY necessary? Does Iran really have a nuclear weapons program? Or is Iran simply creating bargaining chips?

* The bunker buster's ability to pentrate 300 ft of rock, and whether a strike, or multiple precision strikes, would be successful or even possible.

* The CONSEQUENCES of a strike, successful or not. Worldwide political, financial, economic, and MILITARY.

* Whether there is any other way to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. Why isn't the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, with inspections, enough?

* Is "nuclear weapons" just another "Saddam WMD" cover story?

... Frum just psychologizes the hell out of everything.

Instead of CELEBRATING the fact that Trump is reluctant to use weapons, this is all psychological manipulation of the crudest kind.

Saddam was subject to intrusive on the ground UNMOVIC inspections. OUR BOMBS CHASED THEM OUT. Apparently, we're either not satisfied with the NPT and intrusive inspections, or "WMD" isn't really the problem.

The whole drama is surreal, and we created it, not Iran.

21 thoughts on Trump's war with Iran

A risky situation brought to us by a weak president

Slow Boring by Matthew Yglesias / Jun 21, 2025 at 8:51 PM

https://www.slowboring.com/p/21-thoughts-on-trumps-war-with-iran

1. America’s top priority in the Middle East should be decreasing our involvement in the region. President after president keeps vowing to do that, they’ve all failed, and now Trump has arguably failed most of all.

2. What’s been maddening about Iran policy debates for the past decade is that the hawks keeps lying about their own policy preferences.

3. Opponents of the Obama-era Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) deal would make a big show of getting upset if you said that their preferred alternative to the deal was war. When Trump tore up the JCPOA, they again made a big show of getting mad at anyone who said this was putting us on a course for war. But here we are, at war.

4. Now that war is upon us, the biggest red herring in the world is that proponents will say they did this to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. No. Obama signed the JCPOA to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

5. To be clear, JCPOA critics weren’t delusional. The reason that Iran was willing to sign the deal was that it provided them with meaningful upside in the form of sanctions relief. And because the point of the JCPOA was to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, it did not address other concerns one might have with Iran, like the nature of its regime or its cultivation of a regional network of proxy militias or its ballistic missile arsenal. But JCPOA prevented Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. What deal opponents didn’t like was that this was all that it did.

6. The problem with making a deal with Iran that offers Iran upside is it lets them improve their economy and thus pour more resources into various non-nuclear undertakings. This is especially a problem from Israel’s perspective, since they are the targets of many of these undertakings.

7. But the problem with not offering Iran upside is that if Iran doesn’t get upside in a deal, then there’s no deal. You end up with either a nuclear Iran or a war.

8. Now, maybe the war will end up being a “splendid little war” conducted by air with no American casualties and minimal impacts on Israel. Maybe Iran caves and signs a humiliating deal. This definitely might happen

That is NOT what would happen if Iran bombed an American Uranium enrichment site, so why do you trivialize the idiotic thing Trump just did? He started a war without a declaration of war from Congress. If Congress wasn't made up of a majority of highly irresponsible and fearful individuals, worried mainly about themselves, he would be removed from office for what he did to Iran, yesterday.

Most people agree, at minimum, that the Declare War Clause grants Congress an exclusive power. That is, Presidents cannot, on their own authority, declare war. Although it is somewhat more contested among scholars and commentators, most people also agree that Presidents cannot initiate wars on their own authority (a minority argues that Presidents may initiate uses of force without formally declaring war and that Congress’s exclusive power to “declare war” refers only to issuing a formal proclamation).

In the early post-ratification period, the clause’s limit on presidential warmaking was read broadly. Many key founders, including Alexander Hamilton, George Washington and James Madison, referred to the clause’s importance as a limit on presidential power. In the nation’s early conflicts, Congress’s approval was thought necessary – not only for the War of 1812, for which Congress issued a formal declaration, but also for lesser uses of force including the Quasi-War with France in 1798, conflicts with the Barbary States of Tripoli and Algiers, and conflicts with Native American tribes on the Western frontier (all of which were approved by Congress, albeit without formal declarations).

The International Atomic Energy Agency later also said that no increase in radiation levels had been reported in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. I assume that the attack was not successful. Al Mayadeen ‘s correspondent in Tehran also reported that initial findings contradict the US account and confirm that only external areas such as gates and fencing were hit. The superficial damage was negligible and would not affect further uranium enrichment. (Source: Professor Seyed M. Marandi – here and here)

Fortunately we don't have to rely on Iranian sources, as there are radiation sniffers all around the globe which detect underground nuclear tests and well as nuclear accudents

Contrary to Trump’s bluster, the military strike therefore achieved nothing, apart from the fact that the American president completely removed himself from the game diplomatically.

Trump already had a hand in the “Spiderweb” attack, the drone strike against [some strategic] targets in Russia, and lied about it. Trump also lied through his teeth about his involvement in Israel’s attack against Iran. We reported on this in our article “Diplomacy on his deathbed – from peace president to warmonger”. With Trump’s announcement three days ago that he would decide within two weeks whether the US would go to war, he gave the impression that he was striving for a diplomatic solution. Anyone who is still negotiating with Trump and believes his words can be described as a complete idiot.

Too true. A real negotiator needs to protect his/her credibility. Whatever credibility Trump had, he zeroed his account in the past two weeks

Quote:

Furthermore, Trump has robbed himself of the opportunity to act by this stupidity. He now has to wait and see what happens and not only Iran, but also Russia, China and Pakistan can now calmly decide how they will react, while Iran has the opportunity to reduce Israel to rubble. The escalatory dominance therefore lies with Iran and its partners.

Israel and the US have no chance in the war against Iran

My research and discussions with sources reveal a picture that does not correspond at all to what the Western media proclaim, namely that Israel is in the process of winning.

If Israel was "winning" why do they need our help?

I had the opportunity to talk to many people, including professors, scientists, civil servants, entrepreneurs and lawyers. People from all walks of life and of all age groups. As a completely non-religious person, I was invited several times to the home of a highly religious family and spent great evenings with people who live their religion but have no reservations whatsoever about those who live their lives and their faith differently and answer every question about religion and society with great joy and openness. I was also struck by the incredibly high level of education of the people and the propaganda-free view of the West and East. I never sensed any hatred towards Israel and certainly not towards Judaism, as the more than 20,000 Jews in Iran are able to practise their faith in their synagogues without any restrictions.

Iran has been under sanctions for 45 years and the fact that this multi-ethnic state has survived is thanks to a people who are certainly not impressed by a little Hitler in Israel or a screamer in Washington. There are problems in Iran and there are voices calling for reform. However, suggestions on how Iran should change must come from within and not from outside – and that includes me.

So, a couple of thoughts:

Trump has this fixed idea that Israel is our friend (hahagahaha!!!). He may also have a genuine paranoia about Iran and nuclear weapons. The other equally credible idea is that he bought Israel's frothing about Iran's nuclear wespons program.

Problem is, if Iranian nuclear weapons was the REAL problem, there were already bulletproof proposals on the table that would have solved that, one of them being that Israel would turn its 60% enriched uranium over to Russia, and operate an enrichment program for civilian nuclear power as part of a consortium, including even the USA.

That, apparently, wasn't good enough!

So Trump couldn't withstand hysterical Israeli pressure, nor the pressure from MANY Republicans and some Democrats to "Bomb, bomb, bomb. Bomb, bomb Iran".

Rumor is that Trump did some sort of backdoor deal with Iran, informing them of the strike in advance, and that our bunker buster bombs were never dropped, or not dropped on anything important. The deal, if there is one, seems to be going like this:

Trump: I get to declare victory and derail Israel's regime change operation, Iran promises not to attack our regional bases (which would invite a military response and further escalation from us).

IDK about Israel, which is actually taking a more significant beating than Iran. If Israel not part of the deal, Iran and Israel continue their "missile/ drone/ (assasination program on Israel's part) war of attrition", which Israel will probably lose. And Iran responds asymmetrically by, for example, closing straits of Hormuz.

There are a few things to look for:

Do other nations detect radiation cloud circling the globe? (There's a lot can be determined by specific isotopes as well as overall radioactivity.)

Does Israel continue its missile attack on Iran? If so, protecting Israel is not part of any Trumpian deal, and Israel and Iran will continue to exchange blows.

Does Iran close the straits of Hormuz, attack our regional bases, both, something else, or nothing?

"The Parliament has reached the conclusion that the Strait of Hormuz should be closed, but the final decision in this regard lies with the Supreme National Security Council."

And you know this ... how?

"With uranium… the radiation doesn't really travel very far," says Prof Claire Corkhill, Chair in Mineralogy and Radioactive Waste Management at the University of Bristol.

But for people close to the site, there could be health risks, she said.

"Highly enriched uranium is about three times more radioactive than non-enriched uranium. But in fact, on the scale of things, neither of them are particularly densely radioactive. It wouldn't cause a major environmental contamination problem," explains Prof Jim Smith, from the University of Portsmouth, who has studied the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster.

"We're more concerned about what are called the fission products - the things that uranium splits up to when it's in a reactor or in a bomb - things like radioactive caesium, radioactive strontium, radioactive iodine. They are more of an environmental contamination issue."

But because no nuclear reaction is taking place at the enrichment sites - and a blast from a bomb would not trigger one - these dangerous radioactive "fission products" would not be present, he said.

Instead the uranium could be dispersed locally by a blast.

On the other hand, if Trump nuked Iran, that would spread radiation around the world. America had about 1,030 above-ground nuclear explosions. To Trump, nuking Iran would be test 1,031, no big deal to him. Trump could probably sell the idea to his Trumptards that dropping 14 nukes on Iran is no bigger violation of going to war without a declaration of war from Congress than dropping on Iran the 14 "bunker-buster" bombs known as the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators.

There are lots of good reasons for not psychoanalyzing politicians. But when a leader suffering a severe mental illness poses a grave risk to the nation and the world, we can’t just close our eyes. We are in such a moment now.

In the lead-up to last night's airstrikes, which Trump immediately declared a "spectacular military success" in a hyperbolic 3½ minute speech from the White House, his behavior has been marked by manic outbursts and abrupt changes of course. His actions strongly suggest that his mental condition is driving his foreign policy, and that it has now drawn us into war, however limited he promises it will be, with Iran.

The only way to be sure that Iran’s nuclear ambitions have been obliterated is like what was discussed in the movie Aliens: “Nuke it from orbit.” Maybe later this summer, Trump will go Aliens on Iran. I do hope Congress will get around to voting for a Declaration of War against Iran before Trump nukes Iran. The Constitution requires Congress to make such a declaration or impeach fat and crazy Trump for proceeding without Congress’s approval.

Oddly, Trump has criticized the neo-conservative faction of the Republican Party for years over their support for regime changes in Iraq, Iran and other places around the world.

More oddly, Vice President Vance said on Sunday on NBC's "Meet The Press" that the administration's view "has been very clear that we don't want a regime change."

Which way? Regime Change? Or not? Make up your tiny mind, Trump.

Signym, somebody is doing the talking for me: Later on Sunday, it was reported that Trump was set to hold a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin following American strikes on Iranian soil.

Signym, I already know what they will be talking about:

Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that Russia strongly condemns the U.S. attacks on Iran's nuclear sites.

"The irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks, whatever the arguments it may be presented with, flagrantly violates international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council," the ministry said in its statement. (I would add that it violates the US Constitution, which requires Congress to approve of wars, but Putin probably won't mention that legal angle.)

"We call for an end to aggression and for increased efforts to create conditions for returning the situation to a political and diplomatic track," the ministry said.

In addition, he said, “A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads.”

Medvedev, who has served as Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia since 2020, further stated that “Iran’s political regime has survived — and in all likelihood, has come out even stronger,” continuing on to claim that Iranians are “rallying around the country’s spiritual leadership, including those who were previously indifferent or opposed to it.”

So Trump Bombed Iran--Thankfully, Wars Always End In A Day

It Turns Out Its OK To Be A Neocon Interventionist, As Long As MAGA Is The Neocon Interventionist

By Phillips P. Obrien | Jun 23, 2025

https://phillipspobrien.substack.com/p/so-trump-bombed-iran-thankfully
-wars

So the US has committed an act of war—and at this point the one thing people should not do is jump to any conclusions. I find both those celebrating this as a success or condemning it as a failure repeating one of the great mistakes of military analysis—judging a war on its opening.

We have no idea how successful this mission was in destroying Iranian nuclear capabilities, we do not know how Iran will react in either the short or long term, and we certainly do not know how the war will play out. And I’m distinctly uncomfortable with any idea that we might.

Wars are never what they think they are going to be, and when we start them we are basically embarking on a dangerous leap into the unknown. If you might indulge me, I have a new book, entitled War and Power: Who Wins Wars — and Why, coming out this Summer (August in Europe/UK) and Fall (October in the USA) which is about just this—War and Power. I cant officially release any of it yet—but here is a draft of one paragraph from the book. It comes from near the start of the chapters on “war” and discusses the short war illusion that appears with depressing regularity when states go to war—an illusion which, btw, crippled much of the analysis of what would happen when Russia attacked Ukraine in 2022.

“It is not just the specificity of these ‘short war’ claims that is remarkable, it is also that they go against what we have seen repeatedly throughout the history of war, something that has been repeated constantly in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Rarely has a state, not even the United States at the height of its relative power in the 1990s, achieved its military objectives with ease and in such a short amount of time. In fact, when wars are over relatively quickly, it is normally because both sides have lost more equipment than they can regenerate quickly, such as in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The US defeat of Saddam Hussein in the First Gulf War was a rare exception to the ‘short war’ illusion, but it was actually longer than people sometimes understand. Overall, it was a campaign that needed more than forty days of constant air bombardment, and even then the US Army was never sent into the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The US campaign against Saddam Hussein in 2003, which did result in a relatively swift seizure of Baghdad, was fought against an army that had been operating under sanctions for more than a decade – and of course this battle did not end the Second Gulf War. It only ushered in a new phase that would last for many years. The idea that Russia therefore could win its war with Ukraine – having only the tenth-largest economy in the world, a system built on corruption, and a leadership prone to crushing dissent – made little sense.”

All I will say is that we have no idea at this point what has been achieved, whether it was worth it, and crucially how this will end. Is is possible it has a swift and successful conclusion—yes it is. However it is just as likely that Trump has started something that he cannot stop. We will see.

I thought, then, instead of judging the success or failure of the attacks before we have any useful information, that it might be worthwhile setting out scenarios, from the US position, describing how events might develop—with the natural proviso that the reality will almost certainly be different from all of these.

Trump’s Iran War Is a Betrayal We All Saw Coming

By Branko Marcetic | June 22, 2025

https://jacobin.com/2025/06/donald-trump-iran-war

Five months. That’s how long it took Donald Trump to get the United States into another Middle East war after he had told everyone he would “stop the chaos in the Middle East.” Trump, who proclaimed upon his inauguration he wanted to be remembered as a “peacemaker,” couldn’t even wait a half a year into his term to do the thing that he had told everyone he wouldn’t do, and which he built his entire political brand on opposing.

Americans may well start to wonder how it is they keep electing presidents to end wars and focus on problems at home, but keep getting the wars they didn’t want, and seemingly worse and more dangerous ones each time, fought on behalf of a foreign country’s interests, no less.

In the realm of what is NOT being reported (in western press), Iran struck heavily populated areas of Tel Aviv, killing an estimated thousand, and wounding many more according to uncensored reports.

Quote:

At least 27 Iranian missiles were launched in two waves, some of which struck northern and central Israel on Sunday, hitting areas including Haifa, Nes Ziona, Rishon Lezion, and Tel Aviv, according to Israeli media reports. Israeli paramedics said at least 16 people were wounded in the Iranian missile attack.

I watched videos of incoming night time missiles and (probably) decoys, and all I could think was "It be rainin' missiles!" Counted roughly 30 incoming in one video.

Bombing helpless civilians ... it's not as much fun when you're the one getting bombed.

Also in the news today ...

Iran has fired missiles at (probably empty, by now) American bases in Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq.

Perhaps this is all theater, since we fired missiles at/ bombed (probably empty or well- protected) Iranian nuclear sites.

Also, the Straits of Hormuz blocked by GPS jamming. Ya'all probably missed it, but there was a supertanker collision there two days ago, likely bc of GPS interference. Some of this may have to do with the air/ missile war against Iran, since USA missiles rely on GPS guidance (among other things) to hit their targets.

And finally, the Iranian Foreign Minister is meeting with Putin today.
