Perhaps unknown to people a lot of people's 401K are in South Korea, also from the 1970s to 2000 Japan produced a lot of 'high culture'. South Korea is Western Allied and it seems to have taken the culture role Japan once was known for.

Japan once a bad place scary Samurai, once good position politically for the USA, culture isolation trade war and then World War. It became an ally was used to keep the USSR in check.
Then of course in Japan it opens up post war and they made everything radios, cars, movies, they became a center of tech and the Japan's bubble burst, it is still seen as cool but maybe not as cool as it used to be like 'Rome'
Now its all South Korean, the cheap cars, the phones, the diggers for construction, Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, LG Electronics

Although South Korea didn't have an official lockdown with Covid it had restrictions and its birth rate collapsed
while it still seels greatly it might be entering a period of stagnation

and the 'Chaebols' very similar to Japan's old Royal Shogun Emperor the powerful powerful people who come from the family of feudal lords, business elite family conglomerates get a new name in the new Empire

The sudden boom, rapid growth

the chaebol structure is a very similar event to what happened in Japan's past decades

Japan was known lot of culture items Composers, Fashion, movies Ran, Tokyo Olympiad, Cure, My Neighbor Totoro, Ringu, Princess Mononoke, Hana-bi, Akira, Lady Snowblood, Millennium Actress, Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, tv, movies

most of it is now South Korean but Japan still does the cartoon video game thing.
