Dr John Baird, a senior lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, said he was subjected to a lengthy investigation after students made “preposterous” accusations against him.

Baird, a senior lecturer at the ancient university’s school of biological science, claimed his life was made unbearable by vexatious claims that were lodged in an apparent attempt to have him forced out of his job.

“I’ve been under investigation at University of Aberdeen for over a year after students who I have never taught submitted evidence against me in which they claimed I was racist, bigoted, homophobic, misogynistic and of course, transphobic,” he wrote on social media.

Nice job. I thought that was the Asian girl who does a lot of game music on a harp from the thumbnail. Nope. So there's at least 2 women out there doing it, playing harp for games that came out probably before they were born.

FFVIII wasn't the best FF, but it had a killer soundtrack. They even released an Orchestral version in Japan for all of the songs. I remember the first time I'd heard it, it was piped on the intercom at the IMAX theater at Navy Pier in Chicago. I was there with a few buddies to see some X-Games documentary and I got pretty excited when I heard it. They weren't much into games and didn't know why I cared.



Those were in the days before internet really took off. I probably had dial up at my grandma's, but I could only use it at night when everybody went to bed and it took 10 minutes to download a single song. I didn't even know this alternate version of the soundtrack was official until years later.

I know it's not abnormal for you to disappear for that long, but Ted has said at least 3 or 4 times in different threads that he believes now that you and I are one in the same.

I make a post, and suddenly, out of the blue, here you are.


And then I make a reply about how ridiculous it would be to believe that you and I are the same person and how difficult it would be to keep up that charade for all of these years without ever messing up and mixing up the two accounts (particularly back when I was drinking, now that I'm thinking about it)... And I said that besides a fondness for music in general, you and I really don't have a whole lot in common besides...

Never played Fallout 4, so I didn't even know what music was in it.

I think the music selection in Fallout New Vegas was way lower quality overall than the selection they used in Fallout 3, and maybe that's why it took me so long to warm up to what is objectively a better game between the two of them.

It was only years later on YouTube that I found out a lot about the back stories for both of the games along with 4 and the online '76.

I had always just assumed that nobody involved in the original games from the late 90's were involved in any of the 3D games that came out later. I knew that most of the companies making computer games of my youth had either failed or been absorbed into the AAA studios and were just forgotten about and the new guys were running with IP that they weren't able to create on their own.

Turns out I was only half right. Fallout 3 didn't have any of the original team, and New Vegas DID. And today, nobody online will allow you to forget that fact too. It's all in the quality of the "quests" and the dialog (and dialog options).



Had I been a speed running type and not an OCD Completionist, I may have figured that one out on my own, but when I played both of those games I put a few hundred hours into each of them and I kind of screw up the story telling the way I play anyhow. By the time I make it back to the main story I kind of just blow through it because I'm super-powered in all stats and weaponry at that point from all the free-roaming and exploring the entire map that I've already done.

When you've got 100% speech skill, you've basically broken the games and everything is on easy mode. Who needs to figure out how to dismantle the self-proclaimed AI president voiced by Malcolm McDowell when your character has 10 Intelligence, 10 Charisma and 100% speech skill and you can just talk it right into killing itself?

Not only that, but I end up even breaking some of the main quest-line stuff because I've been places and done things that screw it up.


It was only when I watched a few channels like MittensSquad do challenge runs playthroughs of the game when I realized how much I cheat myself out of the story of the games when I break them the way that I normally play, and that New Vegas was vastly superior to Fallout 3.


But I doubt anybody will ever be able to put together a game soundtrack on the level of Fallout 3. Whoever made that list of obscure songs from the 30's and 40's that nobody heard before should have won some awards. What a great list. I don't even know if anybody besides my brother, his wife and I were aware of the fact that the entire playlist of music that was on in the background at their wedding during the feast was all Fallout 3 music in what otherwise would have looked on the face as just a regular non-themed wedding.

My grandma recognized some of those songs. But not from Fallout.

I've got to play that one they put out on the PC about 20 years ago still. It's on my to-do list. Still haven't gotten around to it even though I go back and play the Super Nintendo and Genesis versions every 5 years or so. I liked it when two completely different versions of the same game came out for different systems and they were both really good. I don't think they do that anymore.

They both had some pretty good jams. I wouldn't rate either OST on my top 10 or anything, but they did have a unique sound and both of them made good use of the sound capabilities of each system.



It's funny that they call that tune "Morgue". I guess it does play while you're in the morgue, but since I played most of my time playing in the first area on that weekend my bros and I rented it, this was just kind of the "street" theme to me.

I think the equivalent song on the Genesis game would be "Downtown Seattle".

The difference in tone shows the difference in gameplay between the 2. The Genesis version is more action heavy where the SNES version is more laid back and puzzle focused. Lots of running back and forth unless you know what you're doing on both games for sure, but I find the SNES version harder to cheese. Once you realize that high-level hacker jobs are a better way to make money than any other way by a time factor of anywhere from 10 to 1,000 and you put all the money you can into the right gear to let you win those all of the time, the Genesis version pretty much flies right by if you know what you need to do.


The Super Nintendo did have one hell of a tune to go along with that intro sequence...

Thanks I did not know this, I think lloking back its easy to look down on it
the old samples are kinda silly maybe 'bad' quality but the effort is there, you can see the genius in creating tunes with the technology and computer chip limitation of these times

Yeah... I think it's one of those "you had to be there" things.

I've posted some of the songs from newer Indie releases and they're objectively better in nearly every way. But like you said, it's amazing what they were able to do with that code on those old systems and the tech they had available back in the day.

A lot of kids are playing the old games now though. And not just the speedrunners. I don't think many of them are ever going to go back and play Atari games, and I really wouldn't blame them, but even going back to the original Nintendo there was a lot of great games that came out.

The kids are pushing back against the always-online/microtransacation bullshit, and the fact that Nintendo announced it will be charging $100 for new games going forward is just making that worse for them.
