I'm not going to pretend that I have any idea who Kid Cudi is.
I love that about getting old. Not just the not caring about current pop culture in the least, but actually being proud about that fact.

I heard that Morgan Whallen hit some milestones. He had 10 songs in the Top 10 on something like the Billboard Country charts.
The 2nd artist to do that on ANY Chart. Taylor Swift once had 14 songs in the Top 14 spots.
Morgan also had 37 songs in the Hot 100 Chart, a record. Broke his previous record of 36 back in 2023.
I doubt I've heard 37 of his songs. I don't know of any that I like.

Thanks for sharing that. Cool rendition of that song. I always liked The Cranberries, even though I had no idea what they were singing about at the time when they were somewhat mainstream there for a while. I doubt many Americans did, TBH... The pre-internet days were something else, huh?
Heard this one for the first time in years the other day. I always loved this song...

Another good jam from right around the same time. Love the harmony of The Shins. One of the few bands I can actually listen to the entire album.
*I believe it's "Beats Circus Slime", but I might be wrong. Don't think it's citrus slime.

hmmmmmmmm......
"Be it silk or slime?"
I've heard this song so many times before and I always thought I knew what the lyrics were.
"Too far along in our climb" for sure, but that second part they say "Too far along in our CRIME".
And that lyric "Stepping over, what now towers to the sky" is not what I thought it was before. I don't know exactly what it is they're referring to, but that's some pretty awesome prose right there.
And I always thought it was "and we're often in Marcus' porch again"...
Who wouldn't think that when you've never even heard the name "Nemarca" before.
"We're off to Nemarca's Porch again".
Quote:
The lyrical ambiguity of "Phantom Limb" by the Shins lends itself to many interpretations... But one thing is certain, going off to Nemarca's porch comes from a fan's request that Shins leader, singer/guitarist James Mercer, build her unusual name into a song.

And I don't even know if any of this is true.
But I do know it's "Goat's head" and not "Gold head"
I love mysterious shit like this. It's why Yellow Ledbetter has been a favorite of mine since the first time I heard it on the radio back in high school.

I think it's about a boy and a girl or two girls in school. And they're not popular. I don't think they get beat downs or anything, but "cheap shots from the tribe" sounds like being picked on verbally by the popular kids.
"The phantom and the fly".
"following the lines" but "wondering why"... Good questions to ask when you're that young. Questions you probably don't ask that young unless you've already faced some real adversity. School bullies... divorced parents and crappy home life to go back to when you leave school. You don't want to be at school, but you really don't have anywhere else you particularly care to be, either.
"Namarca's porch"... A safe space. Maybe a younger aunt or older cousin that talks to you like adults and would kick the shit out of the bullies if they ever did anything beyond the name calling... Or at least she makes them believe she could.
"Monday heads" or "Mundane heads" to go along with "Sunday heads"
Drugs maybe? Definitely drinking at some point.
"When they tap our Sunday, Monday/Mundane heads"... "Two zombies walk in our stead."
"This town seems hardly worth our time"... No more need for the town? No... wait... Is it Town or Tower? It sounds like Tower the first time, but Town the 2nd time.
"No longer memorize or rhyme"... No more need for school?
Foreign land with the sprayed on tans... be it silk or slime... I don't even know.
This song might be a hell of a lot darker than the vibe makes it feel. Kinda like Pumped up Kicks maybe?
So phantom limb... related to the phantom and a fly lyric. Or there's no connection?
No connection. Yeah. No connection is the connection there... somehow. Losing the limb but still feeling like it's there and a part of you even though there's no connection. The title of the song means something.
No more tethers? To the town hardly worth their time? To school and to learning? "Stepping over what now towers to the sky?". The world itself?
The world itself still feeling like it's a part of you even though you've left it behind? Or it's left you behind?

"no connection"...
I think they're talking about the official video...
Unless there's some meaning hidden deep in there somewhere, I have no idea how this video would give you any clues to the mystery of the lyrics.
Unless I'm right about the whole song being darker than it leads on. Lots of death in that play.
And the change from "Too far along in our climb" to "Too far along in our crime" at the end of the song...

Oh shit...
I saw on another lyric video some crazy stuff that I remember reading somebody on a thread claim the lyrics were... but that was going on 20 years ago and I just thought they were full of shit.
I always thought the lyrics were "The Ancient Snow"...
No...
It's "The EHS Norm". EHS.... "Something/Somewhere High School". That blows a lot of the beginning open... but not all of it.
Still don't get that first line.
"Frozen Winter Coats"?... (probably not)... "Frozen in two Coats"? (possibly... the two the song are mainly about?)... "Foals in Winter Coats" (I think that's probably right... because of the following lyrics)...
*Foal is a young horse...
Foals in winter coats.
White girls of the North. (Not sure what the "North" is a reference to specifically, but I have my suspicions...).
File past one, five and one...
...
First, the "White girls of the North"...
The boy/girl or girl/girl main characters are likely Mexican or Cuban. The "White Girls of the North" are just that. White, American girls. Likely cheerleaders, in their letterman jackets. If you recall, later in the song, when they're looking at the Family Portrait it was "Circa '95". Schools are really mixed today, sure, but they weren't back in 1995. We only had one or two cheerleaders that weren't white depending on the year when I was there.
Then again, it's not like I noticed much of that because by that point in time I was my own phantom and a fly and outside of Wrestling (a one on one sport first and foremost in my mind), I wanted nothing to do with any extracurricular activities myself. I actively avoided them. I couldn't even understand people who wanted to be involved in them or why they would even want to? Never really gave much thought about the people who actually longed to be one of them? It was just them and everyone else to me.
So hear me out on this one... "File past one, five and one..."
Herd culture of the popular kids. Could just be 7 foals walking past them as they "skirt the hallway sides" and get out of the way as the "Phantom and the Fly" they prefer to be, rather than get their attention for any reason and probably be singled out for more verbal bullying bullying in front of everyone else.
The inevitable Prom Queen, with her 5 Heathers in tow... gabbing to each other in a straight line down the middle, taking up most of the hallway between the rows of lockers, maybe the chubby One they keep around to beat up pulling up the rear?
I don't believe that there are any boys in this scenario walking down the hall with them. Though "Foal" doesn't specify a male or female, the lyric was "White Girls" of The North.
The "The Fabled Lambs... The Sunday Ham". The prize.
OH... WAIT....
"EHS"... It's not a reference to a specific high school...
It's EVERY High School... Back in 1995.
"The EHS Norm"

(This is all obviously a very "Hollywood" exaggerated scenario. At least in my Midwest school at the time... can't speak for other schools. We didn't have 7 female bullies walking down the hall like they owned the freakin' place, going out of their way to make life hell for everyone "beneath" them. Don't know what people said and did to each other outside of the hallways but I don't ever remember much drama between classes in the 4 years I was there. Everyone seemed to do a pretty good job of just knowing their roles and sticking to them, I guess. Maybe some people really felt this way about it and over the years made up drama in their past that didn't actually happen?)
Now I gotta work out "float about the grass" and the latency surrounding the hiding of that... and why she keeps hope alive that she can do it too one day.
No... T

That Suno site is pretty cool, Jaynez.
I'm not going to pay for a membership, so it's rather limited for free users, but I came up with some pretty good jams about DEI hire CEOs and politicians and how they burned everything to the ground in just a matter of seconds.
You can't do any editing with a free membership and you're just stuck with whatever it spits out, but out of the 5 songs I was limited to per day, 2 of them were pretty sweet right out of the box and wouldn't need any tweaking.
Got me a rock song I called "Ode To Kathleen Kennedy" that sounds like something Paramore would have done if they weren't woke as shit in 2025. And a Country song about Mayor Bass destroying L.A. called "The Queen of the Wreckage" that's pretty good too.

K-Pop and Anime tunes are becoming a global thing but they are also startingt o sell int he USA
maybe there was something Eurovision that most of the people in the world liked but not everyone in the USA like ABBA?

Can't do youtube at work, but this very topic is something I have been thinking about a lot recently.
Seems like the music and radio industries have had each other caught up in a death spiral for several years now. Music is promoted on radio, and conversely radio can only play what music is being made.
The music industry makes and promotes music of a few narrowly defined genres, and insists that its stars be young, charismatic, and live the rock-n-roll lifestyle. Less and less emphasis is placed on songwriting ability and voice talent. Further, if a musician is not the demographic they are looking for, they don't do the album. Lastly, the main fault of the music industry is price. It is just ridiculous that you can buy a movie on DVD cheaper than you can buy the soundtrack. I understand it takes about $0.10 to make a CD, and about $1.00 to make a DVD. Seeing as how the case and packaging can't be that much (maybe $.20) if there is a printing of at least 10,000 copies, why is it a CD from the store cost $14.00?!? Especially when a DVD only cost $7-15? Even with the artist getting a royalty, a CD should only be about $4-5. The music industry likes to complain about declining sales and piracy, but there would be a lot less of both if music were more of an impulse buy.
Meanwhile, the radio industry has been slowly digging its own grave for decades now. Marketing and programmed playlists kill creativity, enthusiasm, and variety. I was just listening to a report on NPR the other day where the subject was saying that basically Rock grew when FM stations were just starting out. With no one listening to them, the DJs were able to play whatever they liked, which happened to be early Rock (they mentioned Sgt Pepper specifically). It turns out there is still quite a bit of good music being made, but without exposure, the general populace never hears it, and it never catches on. Thus, radio is left with the same tired playlist year after year. Our local NPR just started a new station (89.3 the Current) last year that plays a huge variety of obscure rock aimed at youth. It often sounds like a university radio station, but for the first time in a long time, I have been discovering new music that I like. More radio stations should have an open playlist like this (and not just lip service saying that they do). They might find their audience growing instead of loosing people to XMRadio, ipods, etc.
Rant over. For now.

I think humans have been perverted for a long time, you would see tales about Arabs or heard of something terrible a muslim did in news... and read stories of them abusing animals. I'm sure that story about Africans getting AIDs after one of them raped a monkey isnt 100% false its probably based on some truth about some lonely guy doing something perverted in sub Sahara Africa.
Deliverance squeal like a pig is probably based on some event, I believe the Dutch used to rent out aniamls to be raped at some 'whore house; until Animal Rights groups formed their own political parties to fight the cruelty. The Japanese their old 'water color paint' some of the scenes could be terrible, like a woman getting molested by an Octopus...before godless deviant global Jews like Alan Dershowitz started pushing smut...the Japanese were already creating drawings and paintings of 'filth' hundreds of years ago.
I believe Ennio Morricone – had a track 'Beastiality' but I'm not sure if it was what it was or maybe it was just to be as weird as possible with John Carpenter's 'The Thing' remake, this Alien animal that could almost clone or could do a copy mimic of a human. the funky guy Prince wrote about Animal Rights and Vegans.
As disturbing as all that is, at least as Adults we can process or prepare for the shocks and madness and stories crimes.
What I find weird is the stuff pushed on kids, Beauty and the Bestiality...or the Beast...the toon is based on a weirdo French book La Belle et la Bête...the French were always weird.
Rather than be with the ok normal human guy, she decides to have a relationship or sex with this thing that looks like a monster? and all those Phallic Candle Sex Toy symbolism in a children's movie? they remade the 'Fairytale' as a 2017 Live Action film wit the Harry Potter girl. She ignores they man who can provide for her a war veteran, she joins the monster guy who kidnapped her father, the film or story tries to send you on this stockholm syndrome journey....pure trash to twist the minds of kids? Or just some weirdo French fantasy story that made it into the mainstream??
There is something about magic and a 'spell' broken which makes it less icky less gross and weird than all those Greek stories about sex with animals?
Jefferson Airplane seemed to be Anti-Hunting but I dont know if they were serious or it just happened to be some ideas that got into their minds after whatever thing they drank or stuff they were smoking at the time. Paul McCartney used to sing animal rights songs also "Long Leather Coat" but mayeb that was his wife who was more into Activism

gets political, comments on Afrika Bambaataa a retired American rapper
America died in the late 1980s, it was over by the early 1990s. I blame the opportunists. The dirt bags. I was there when Russell Simmons was introduced to Rick Rubin by none other than Afrika Bambatta. The music industry went to shit. It never recovered. Western Civilization has been in a lost decade, a cultural wasteland, from the mid to late 1980s until Trump came down the escalator. Literally a perpetual lost decade devoid of culture and spirit. The shitlibs ruined education. The globalists sold off America’s production. The Western world has not had an original decade since the 1980s. Nothing but soul crushing derivative crap. The leftards are soulless mutants and everything they do is evil and done out of hatred and envy and greed.

What's banned? Looks like the video is still up on YouTube and I don't see any references in those links saying that it was banned.
I find it hard to believe that they would ban him anyhow. If the BlueSky link didn't clue you in, Todd is a hard-core Leftist who has an increasingly hard time keeping politics out of his videos.
I used to watch the guy a lot until he started doing that. I gave this video a try just last night and not even 5 minutes in he's doing the normal Trump Bashing thing and I just tuned out. Why am I going to sit through a 30 minute video on the absolute worst of a terrible year in music AND listen to that?
I had to laugh when you posted that video here today because I'd never seen you post any of Todd's stuff before and I'd just tuned out of it several hours before you made this post.

Stupid suits.
I would warn them HEAVILY against doing this.
I remember when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles went on tour too. 5 years later, there were no TMNT toys sold anymore, and numerous reboots over the years all failed to bring back any of the excitement.
All genres of music have a shelf life. KPOP is hitting pretty big now, though it's been around for well over a decade already.
Taking the characters from this movie and making them an act for little kids is the quickest way to shorten the shelf life of KPOP. By the time they grow up and are in high school and beyond, they're probably going to be ashamed of being so wrapped up in it when they were younger. They won't admit that, but they won't be adults listening to KPOP either.

Stewart Copeland on why jazz sucks
https://www.organissimo.org/forum/topic/32603-stewart-copeland-on-why-
jazz-sucks/
I read something where a writer said that you have some sort of aversion to jazz?
It's a fun party trick, but I am allergic to jazz. I was raised to be a jazz musician, my father was a jazz musician and I was steeped in jazz from the moment my ears blinked open, which is why I am immune to jazz. And my main reason why I love dissing jazz is jazz musicians. The problem with jazz musicians is that they are all crap. It's sort of like jazz is the refuge of the talent-less. If you really want to be a musician and you are prepared to really work hard at it, but you don't have the gift and you don't have any soul and you don't have any talent, jazz is what you should do; because all you need to do is just spend hours training your fingers to wiggle very quickly and you'll be a hero in the jazz world. Not so in blues. In blues you need talent, you need X factor, you need heart, you need to have lived a life, you have to have something to say, you need to be an actual musician to play the blues. Jazz, any fool can do it; all you gotta do is practice.
And do you think that hold true for the elite, for folks like Jack DeJohneete?
I love Jack DeJohneete. Some of the others – Miles [Davis], mostly crap. Some of his early records where he had Tony Williams, great, I love those. But mostly it was crap. He was out of tune and he was a fucking junky and it sounded like shit. It was utterly preposterous. The king just wasn't wearing any clothes. Coltrane, same thing. [in a condescending voice] "Love supreme, love supreme" it's a joke.
so Java says its now 'Jazz' around Indonesia with Rap and R&B singer, Earth, Wind & Fire these are clearly pop, funk, disco not 'Jazz'
Jacob Collier now does 'Jazz' he is about as far removed from those old dirty Folk Blues roots and European brass and clarinets as one could possibly get, the Theatre shows, the juke joint, the kids and teens learning the Charleston, the Speakeasies the secret, illegal bars
He is very good at what he does but its not linked to the roots, Jacob gearing to make his SA debut they say at Cape Town International Jazz Festival

The wall of sound, guitar, bass and vocal seems familiar, I think I heard this on the radio for 5 seconds while flicking the radio, maybe heard it while walking through a bar out socializing.
Its not the greatest song but its not terrible either, its good they have more than one vocal member being 'creative'...kinda funny ironic to say that as most acts have teams of producers song-writers
there is potential for something and I appreciate they play for real but it feels too much like a disco electronic loop or something

I like that one.
One of my all-time video game music re-imaginings...
And I'm not even a Ska fan, although Sublime had hints of it and I didn't mind a few of the 90's ska songs that came out.
Great 8-bit classic chiptune from one of the best NES games that never got the love it deserved until years later after YouTube came out and let other people know what they missed. What a great soundtrack that game had all around.
The Ska remake song starts at 8:14.
And it looks like somebody just made an Orchestral version last year. I'll have to give this one a listen. Sounds great so far...
The "Overworld" ska song starts at 4:15 on that one.
