There's a figure approaching from the water. A sillouette, just head and shoulders, waist, and hips. A silvery, semi-transparent garment clings to a feminine form. Long tresses drenched.
At the waters edge the figure stands. The water laps at what are now her ankles. Shining, opalescent scales transform into moist skin.

She stares, puzzled at the party on the beach.
(Which was suddenly empty and then once again appeared)

"Did I hear someone recite Kubla Khan?"

*Needleseye nods her head, acknowledging the gracious bow.*

That really isn't necessary
Thank you for welcoming me.
I love poetry and songs. I heard the phrases and then had to check out the rukus I could hear beneath the waves.
Not to mention someone swam past me earlier, and as I was contemplating surfacing to the beach I noticed some people in the water, shall we say, enraptured? *clears throat*
I thought now would be a better time to check things out.

*Looks about*
This wouldn't be a shipwreck related party would it?

*Ratboy approaches the group on the beach, he's wearing a ball cap with a wet towel hanging in back and his nose is coverd in sunscreen.
He's holding a long stick-like thingy with a plate-like thingy on the end. The earphones he's wearing are pluged into the stick-like thingy.
Everyone stands up and looks at him, wondering what sort of odd music he must be lisiening to.
Ratboy keeps walking, until he notices everyone stareing at him. He pauses for a moment then unplugs his earphones so all can hear.*

Metal Detector by They Might Be Giants:

Down at the shore there's a place where there's no one vacationing
There's just the sound of the call of the wild overcoming the fear of the unknown

And I've got something to help you understand
Something waiting there beneath the sand
My metal detector
Is with me all of the time

I'm the inspector over the mine

Look past the volleyball (look past the ball)
Look past the squawking gull (look past the gull)
Ignore the mountain of discarded falderal

'Cause I've got something to make you understand
Something hidden there underneath the land
My metal detector
Is with me all of the time

I'm the inspector over the mine
Metal detector, watch it shine

Every seashell has a story to tell if you're listening
But underneath every shell there's a story as well if you've heard enough of the sea
Then everything on the top will just suddenly stop seeming interesting
So listen now to the sound of the things that are found underground

Don't need no volleyball (don't need no volleyball)
Don't need no squawking gull (don't need no squawking gull)
Don't need to look at any bathing beauty doll (don't need to look at any doll)

For I've got something to help you understand
Something waiting there beneath the sand
My metal detector
Is with me all of the time

I'm the inspector over the mine

Look past the volleyball (look past the ball)
Look past the squawking gull (look past the gull)
Ignore the mountain of discarded falderal

'Cause I've got something to make you understand
Something hidden there underneath the land
My metal detector

I'm the inspector over the mine

HEY! What is that suppose to mean? That wasn't very ...I really don't think ...
Oh ok, you're right, I had few problems with my clothing in the last few threads. I blame it all on a slight malfunction with the butterflies!

Hey look there's a little piece of string hanging off my skirt. I'll just pull that off and...

Luckily there's a seamstress shop on this lovely planet. Nope, nakedness will not be taking place any time in the near future. (unless of course there is a simonclone involved somehow, i am all for seeing that in the non-clothed variety) So there!

I don't know if this is a campfire song, but my sisters and I used to sing a song called "The other day" (ok,we *still* sing it...)

Each line is sung by one person, then everyone else sings the line back. Then, everyone sings the verse together.

Ready?

I'll start, you echo.

The Other day (echo)
I saw a bear (echo)
A great big bear (echo)
Oh Way up there (echo)

All:
The other day I saw a bear,
A great big bear oh way up there!

He looked at me (echo)
I looked at him (echo)
He sized up me (echo)
I sized up him (echo)

All:
He looked at me I looked at him
He sized up me I sized up him

He says to me (echo)
Why don't you run? (echo)
I see you ain't (echo)
Got any gun (echo)

All:
He says to me why don't you run?
I see you ain't got any gun

I says to him (echo)
"That's a good idea! (echo)
So C'mon feet! (echo)
Let's up and flee! (echo)

All:
I says to him that's a good idea!
So c'mon feet let's up and flee.

And so I ran (echo)
Away from there (echo)
But right behind (echo)
Me was that bear! (echo)

All:
And so I ran away from there
But right behind me was that bear!

And up ahead (echo)
there was a tree (echo)
A great big tree (echo)
Oh glory be! (echo)

All:
And up ahead there was a tree,
a great big tree oh glory be!

The lowest branch (echo)
was ten feet high (echo)
It reached way up (echo)
into the sky! (echo)

All:
The lowest branch was ten feet high
It reached way up into the sky!

And so I jumped (echo)
into the air (echo)
but I missed that branch (echo)
oh way up there! (echo)

All:
And so I jumped into the air
But I missed that branch oh way up there!

Now don't you fret (echo)
and don't you frown (echo)
'Cause I caught that branch (echo)
on the way back down! (echo)

All:
Now don't you fret and don't you frown!
'Cause I caught that branch on the way back down!

NOTE: this last verse starts out quite slowly then speeds up to normal speed on the last line
That's all there is (echo)
There ain't no more (echo)
Unless I see (echo)
That bear once more (echo)

All (slowly and ending with a grand flourish):
That's all there is there ain't no more!
Unless I see that bear once more!

My! That was fun! Well, time to go off and play some games.

We alway sang the red wagon song...

(whisper)
You can't ride in my red wagon
The wheels are broken
and the axle's saggin'

Same song same verse
A little bit louder
and a little bit worse!

Repeating these same lines until you nearly lose your voice or annoy the camp counselers, which ever happens first.

*Gives and admiring glance to SereniTree*
I'm quite fond of "Row, row,row your boat" however...

...I have another song I'd love to sing.

*Suddenly distracted, looks in the direction of the kilted fellow finishing off a rather large burger*
BUT before I do, I'm a bit hungry. Can't sing well on an empty stomach. What variety of animal flesh is that? *pointing at burgers* Might I have one?

I need a nice distraction from THE reality (even more so than usual). In fact, it almost feels like we might be here an Rukus for a long time to come. To relieve the boredom of such a decadent scene, Needleseye begins to recite..

Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more,
Men were deceivers ever;
One foot in sea, and one on shore,
To one thing constant never.
Then sigh not so,
But let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting an your sounds of woe
Into Hey nonny, nonny.
Sing no more ditties, sing no more
Of dumps so dull and heavy;
The fraud of men was ever so,
Since summer first was leafy.
Then sigh not so,
But let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into Hey nonny, nonny.

* After the “ratburger” comment, The Real Me starts paying attention. He eyes Rat and his hasty escape. *

Needleseye, you may help yourself to any of our food and drink here, but kindly do not eat the participants in this party.

And I’m not certain what this “Port-o-let” talk is about with regard to the SereniTree. If it is in reference to size, then Rat is mistaken. On the outside, the SereniTREE is the size of a two-story house that could be put into the limbs of a rather large tree. It began as a tree house, after all. We have a picture of it on our flag. It is much larger on the inside, since I have folded space through some higher dimensions a few times. Inside, it’s probably the size of a small shopping mall.

* The Real Me looks around. *

I’m afraid that Captain Ebonezer is indisposed. But I’m the First Officer of the SereniTree. Perhaps I can be of assistance?

Sit down fella, I'll grab you a pint. I'm guessing this a multi-dimensional keg that pours anything you want. Here, try some Old Peculiar, a favoured English ale of mine.

So pint for the fella, glass of wine or fruit based cocktail for the lady.

*hands twg a fruit based cocktail of her own imagination*

Gosh, what a lot of umbrellas you imagined in it. Wow.

Right, I'm going to set up a limbo line here. How low can you go? Everybody, how low can you go?

Thanks Simon! I'm not sure what it is...it seems to just have lots of umbrellas in it...it's cool though.

*twg takes a step towards the limbo line*

I'm ready.

Squeek!

It gets worse. Being only a foot long, and not so particularly tall, I, BJS am an odds on favourite to win a limbo competition.

However, and this is important, Mr. Rat, it ain't actually a competition.

TheRealMe: The Brides have all been employed as keno girls on the Ariel level casino, save for the ReaverBride, who is currently undergoing counselling with the prototype Inaraclone and Bookclone. The prototype Riverclone is recommending aromatherapy sessions, but it is at this time uncertain as to what this has to do with anything. Your help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

There's plenty o' umbrellas. Y'all might wanna consider MudLimbo. Adds a certain sillyness to the workings.

Black Jack Silver.

You're welcome.

*sighs and feels the need to explain herself to someone*

At least you haven't run off...yet. Y'know, last time I sat next to a crew member of a ship visiting here, I was looking at him like dessert.
Right as I was about to take the first bite, he started to sing this song...
*begins to sing hoping no one flees*

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, 'Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow'

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with Death my bride?
Hear me sing, 'Swim to me, Swim to me, Let me enfold you:
Here I am, Here I am, Waiting to hold you'

*gets slightly teary*
After that, I lost my appetite and I let him go.
*Immediately ,little flowers begin to pop up around the chair and at TGJ's feet, more pop up here and there across the beach, then out into the water, floating about*

Since then I seem to have a problem...

...flowers!

An enemy fleet?

* The Real Me considers this problem gravely. *

We might need to think about a planet-wide evacuation.

* The Real Me calls into the air: *

Hey, Cozen? Black Jack Silver? What is the total population of this place, including everyone working and living here, but not the Seven Brides, the FemaleReaver, or the passengers and crew of the SereniTREE?

* While waiting for an answer, The Real Me thinks some more. *

I wonder if I can fold space within the SereniTree enough to put this planet in our cargo bay?

Hmmmm... that's a lot of dimensional folding...

We might have to dump some of our SPAM.

They're hiding behind the fifth planet? Well, we could just have SimonWho destroy that planet with his mind... Oh, wait is it inhabited?

We'r not on a planet, we'r on an asteroid. So I think there'll be enough space already. The problem lies in geting the asteroid inside the ship, as you know the ship is quite small on the outside.

It floats to the shore in front of Grey, kneeling and lower one hand to the ground. Greyu hops on the hand and is raised to the chest cockpit as the mecha stands.*

Let's just hope Aegis here can handle MaRTHA.

*MaRTHA (Mighty and Righteous Tactical Heavy Armament) is shot out of the cargo hold of the SereniTREE's roof access and is caught by Aegis. MaRTHA snaps on its shoulder.*

This should take care of that rebel scum.

*The circuitry begins to glow an angry red as MaRTHA powers up. Minutes pass as MaRTHA continues to charge up, well beyond the red line. Alarms are ringing all through Grey's cockpit. Grey finally slams his fist down on the FIRE button and a massive bolt of Righteous Fury flies into the sunset sky and beyond sight, the recoil burying Aegis up to its knees. Several minutes pass in silence before a display of soundless explosions can be seen in the distance around the fifth planet's second moon.*

No one ruins my vacations but me. Damnit.

Welcome back PR! Please join the fun. We are all about to be attacked by some unknown scary fleet and die horrible deaths.

Here eat this. It's really yummy and it'll take your mind off the whole impending doom issue.

EDIT: Oh goody apparently the doom has been cancelled. For a minute there I was afraid I might have to get up out of this comfy chair.

*Eats* Mmmm, its good! Just like the stuff we used to get from Inola Teg...just as long as there's no spam! And how is IT??

Aww no war, I wanted to test out my telekinetic Fighting skils! to whoever didn't come to kill us!!

And TWG! I go away for what? 2 months...and I come back to find you whoring around with Static. (Hey, static!)

Thats......fantastic! Good for you!

TheReal Me asketh:

Quote:

* The Real Me calls into the air: *

Hey, Cozen? Black Jack Silver? What is the total population of this place, including everyone working and living here, but not the Seven Brides, the FemaleReaver, or the passengers and crew of the SereniTREE?

*The rain stops. Clouds disperse. A glimmer of starshine illuminates the beach. An African Grey parrot swirls lazily down from a backlit section of the new horizon, eventually alighting upon TRM's forearm.*

Squarf!

Lessee.... For starters, the local population consists entirely of lab produced clones derived from the Earthly televison series Firefly. At last count, this included two Malcolm Reynolds clones, two Jayne Cobb clones, two Zoe Warren clones (you might have spotted the Zoes, they were decked out in tight fitting security uniforms), two Simon Tam clones, a Kaylee Frye clone, a prototype River Tam clone, and the Badger clone concierge (whom everyone have ignored, which is hardly surprising).

*The parrot Black Jack Silver begins counting talons.*

*Gives up at six, when he runs out of counting talons.*

So, that's, like, a whole lotta clones, eh? Up to you to decide if they're actual people.

Grey Jedi declared:

Quote:

Wait. It is my fault. But I didn't do it on purpose.

Nice shot with MARTHA! However, being a paranoidish sort, cozenCluster Inc., had anticipated an attack on its clone transport fleet. Sadly, based on sketchy data from a dubious source, ie., Ratboy, you elected to mount an offensive. cozen deeply admires your dedication to the preservation of the Sereni-Tree crew, but kinda wishes you wouldn't use his/its transport fleet's defensive orbital mirrors as target practice. Sadly, this is gonna delay delivery of the 100% pure Inara clones, at least until safe transport routes are guaranteed.

An earlier quote from the esteemed Chief Engineer TGJ:

Quote:

Vacation! ON vacation! This is a beach party, not a war.

Agreed! (At least someone is trying to fill in the MGN (minimum gratuitous nudity) quotient that our gracious Mai has declined to continue.

Psychic River quoth:

Quote:

to find you whoring around with Static....

Squah!

Okay, Rule number three (3) on Rukus, cozen's pleasure planet: No, repeat, NO, degredation of women will be tolerated. People indulging in mutually consenting cyberlove are people, NOT whores. Nobody here is getting paid for sex. Don't take this personally, PsR, it is, sadly, a common error, with a foundation in hunnerds of years of wacky patriarchal misinformation. Enjoy the company, the food, the amusements. Glad you found a way to catch up with us.

*Black Jack Silver patiently awaits TheRealMe's feeding him some tasty pistachios.*

* The Real Me averts his eyes from TheGreyJedi’s “display” and concentrates intently on feeding the parrot-gram some nuts. *

Thanks for the census information, Silver, but it looks like an evacuation idea was unnecessary.

Grey! Wow! That was pretty awesome. Uh. I mean your attack against the enemy fleet was awesome, not.. uh anything else you might have just been doing, not that I watched… or noticed, or anything.

So, Grey, did you have that Mecha standing by, or did you construct it spontaneously out of old beer cans, a bit of string, and a couple rocks?

And do you have R. Dorothy somewhere in there?

Uh, PsychicRiver, can you read SimonWho’s mind and figure out what he’s trying to say?

Huh. Others seem to be having trouble talking too. I wonder...

AWWWWW! Come on, you stupid parrot!! That’s gross!

By the way, PsychicRiver, I've only risked one more trip to the Purple Dimension for some of their ice cream. There's a couple tubs of it back on the SereniTree.

Inola Teg is fine, and has even grown a few more tentacles since her... visit.
