Love the sound. Lyrics are a nice poem too.

It's just one of those songs that sound so unique compared to everything else that I've never forgotten it.

EDIT: If you watched it already with the bright colored background, that video borked the hell out of the lyrics, but most eggregiously on the last few lines. It almost looked like whoever did it, made the changes on purpose because they stripped it of any religious overtones by changing "This memory of Eden haunts us all" to "This memory of hidden hearts and souls", and changing "This Rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of The Fall" to "This Rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of Love.

I replaced it with a video with a black backdrop and they got the lyrics right.

Hey YouTube. If you're a lyric channel, you've got one job. Do better.

Their Best, and one of the all time bests, IMO...

So good, but so hard to recommend to people who I don't already know would almost certainly like it.

One of my picks of all time greatest songs ever, and its unlistenable to most, I would imagine.

*This one I might actually give a cautious recommendation to Sigs. And listen with the volume down and turn it up only if you need to and only after you've heard the loudness of the chorus.

I think you might actually share some of my thoughts about the lyrics on this one.

And if you knew how many times I probably listened to it in my teenage years, some things might make a little more sense to you than they did 5 minutes ago before you started the video.

What a great song that I totally forgot about over the years.

I never knew who did it, and never would have guessed .38 Special until it was one of the featured songs in a recent Professor of Rock video.

Been a while since 'ole Jack has had any emotions that songs like these were about, but if songs about love, stupid mistakes and a shot at redemption are what you're in the mood for, it'd be hard to find a better song than this for the occasion.

I'd put it right up there with Against All Odds, Never Gonna Dance Again, Never Gonna Let You Go. Weird that I still hear the rest of those enough where I haven't forgotten them, but this one just kind of disappeared over the years.

ETA: Props to the video creator. I was going to show a different lyric video that was simply white letters on black background, but I found the channel's name and self-plug in the beginning to be needlessly offensive, so I picked the one that had a thumbnail for a late 90's teen drama movie I remember seeing at some point, although the memory of who I saw it with sadly seems to have faded...

But one thing I'm pretty sure about is that the movie is not at all about these two getting into a fight over the guy's infidelity. If I remember correctly, he was supposed to be our typical nerd guy who was going for the girl way out of his league, and somehow he just finally happened to string the right words together at the right time and make her fall in love with him.

I think that there's some additional end-of-2nd-act drama that shakes things up a bit in this movie and allows for some of the footage they used that wouldn't be available otherwise, but I think it's pretty much just the 10th version of Patrick Dempsey's Loverboy, which itself was probably the 10th version of 10 other movies going back over a hundred years.

That's not at all what this song is about in any way. But if you never saw the movie, or remember it less than I believe I do, you'd probably walk away after watching this video thinking that Can't Hardly Wait was the story about a guy winning his girl back after he cheated on her.

Well done.

Oh... And however popular Jennifer Love Hewett and that guy who played the happy dude on Empire Records and the even happier dude on That Thing You Do ended up being, it wasn't popular enough. They were both really good and probably seriously underrated.

You can see it just in the scenes from this video without any of the spoken dialog. I've never watched that movie or really too many others without the volume off unless I was doing it intentionally for some reason.

Look at them act. Look at that emotion on their faces.

Maybe my dude was always a little too happy in most of his movies... at least the ones that I've seen him in... but I don't ever remember not believing he was happy. I've probably seen him in 5 movies over the years, and he always added something to the screen no matter how big or small the part. He was great all the way back in Dutch with Al Bundy when he was just a kid.

But Jennifer Love Hewett here. Wow. She was something else.

And there she is, eyebrows raising just the right amount at just the right time and then just speaking 1,000 words silently with those eyes and that hesitant smile before giving in and going back for more...

Really good screen kisses have to be at least as hard to fake as those big ole crocodile tears that some actors and actresses can pull off. I'd have to imagine at least double since there's two of you doing one of the most intimate acts that two people can do for a wide screen audience to judge. If there's no chemestry, it's obvious. And those kisses do exist seemingly more all the time and they tend to happen with the camera zoomed out waaaaaaay further out than the kisses in this movie were.

Cute story, actually... It honestly wouldn't surprise me if you told me the two directors wrote each other's bios on IMDB. It also wouldn't surprise me from looking at their bio pictures if they didn't have their own nerdy guy gets the cute girl trope story of their own to tell and maybe that's what Can't Hardly Wait actually was.

Looks like a husband/wife duo both wrote and directed Can't Hardly Wait as well as Josie and the Pussycats and another movie I never heard of. I never saw anything else that either of them did, so I can't really compare their work here to anything else they've done, but I'm kind of curious to see now if they were directing the scenes this good or if the actors themselves are due more of the credit here.

The "Suicide Hotline" commercials sitting right in between the life insurance and boner pill ads.

Hey... Maybe by the time I'm of retirment age, we can even have government programs that promise to start up a 529 IRA for a grand kid in your name if you do it. The younger you are and the less Social Security you take from the shrinking pot, the larger the initial contribution from Uncle Sam.

Isn't that really, the logical conclusion to all of this? Get the kids and the grand kids to secretly or maybe sometimes even not so secretly wish that grandma and grandpa would just do it "for the children"?

I wouldn't worry about it. That's in The Future.

For now, all you gotta do is just hum along and not pay any attention to any of the words.

I'm tellin' ya, Jaynez... I saw you never replied to my posts about Wild in the Streets, but I think in a few ways that is one hell of an underrated gem of a 60's B movie. I've only known about for less than 2 months and I'd never heard anybody but my dad ever talk about it. He knows it was not what would be considered a good movie by the mainstream and told me before we started we could turn it off if I wasn't enjoying it, but I stuck around for the ride. Sometimes with the right company, watching things like this that took place a decade or two before you were born can be a really cool insight that you never otherwise would have gotten.

I bring the movie up here because I'm sure that I can't discount the fact I saw it maybe 6 weeks ago as at least contributing somewhat to my thoughts tonight.

How can I say this...

Wild in the Streets is to Logan's Run as B-Movie Brave New World is to B-Movie 1984.

The general tone differences match the books as well, but upon re-reading that I just couldn't bring myself to put either of those two movies on the same level as those two books, even just for the sake of discussion...

But yeah...

That's probably the perfect review for it.

And if I see anybody put that on the box cover and I don't get my cut, do expect to see myself playing my own lawyer against you in court.

I warn you though... I'm as stubborn as my grandpa was and I've got nearly infinitely more free time than he ever did.

It's nice getting things organized in my life again. One of the benefits of that was finding about 300 songs I needed to add to my mp3 player (and probably 2,000 or more that I should go trough and make some choices).

Heard this one while I was out there sanding and I wanted to hear it on my computer with my good headphones and without the sander drowning most of it out.

Dirty Dancing did have a good soundtrack.

I always loved how this song sounded. Probably one of the first 10 or so songs I remember hearing on the radio. I don't know the order of the back 8, but I know my two first songs/favorite songs from the radio were "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran and "Hard for me to Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago, especially the 2nd part that they cut off half the time on the radio and I'd be really bummed when they did that.

I've never heard this before, and I'm going to be listening to it whenever I get back to working on the hope chest I'm restoring for my aunt. The little I heard sounds awesome so far, and outside of Dark Side of the Moon, I'm sure I haven't given Pink Floyd the attention it deserves.

Came here to post a song I was thinking of the other day. I've been thinking about my uncle a lot recently for some reason. I lived with him at my grandma's house for around 5 years before I skipped town and went out of state for my last good job. We smoke a lot of beers and drank a lot of weed and he turned me on to some great music while I was living there. And it was cool that he had an open mind to new music too.

At one point I got him a little CD player mini-boom box thing as a gift. It was nothing to me... maybe 30 bucks. He got a little angry with me about it... He didn't like people doing nice things for him. He wanted me to take it back, but I'd burned some mp3s to CDs of songs I knew he liked and we just chilled and listened to the music. May have been one of the nights where we played chess too.

By the end of the night when we were feeling pretty good after sharing a case of beer and a few joints, he was nothing but smiles about the gift and he was already thinking about songs he wanted and I told him to start making lists for me.

These were one of those songs...

I don't think I could ever say I genuinely loved it, and it really was an odd choice for him to considering his tastes. He had outliers in there like this one though, just like I suppose we all do. The reason why I already knew it and didn't mind it too much was because I saw David Spade do it karaoke in a movie that I forget the name to 30 years ago... Maybe it was a Chris Farley movie too... I don't remember.

It's an objectively great song. Just not my usual tastes, and it doesn't have a place on my playlist.
