Hi all,
Just a quick heads up. Not sure exactly when it's going to happen, but we're moving to another verse. Kinda. It's about 85-90% there with lots left to do, but I thought it was far along enough for you to take a looksee.
https://uat.fireflyfans.net
The postings are not current and ANYTHING POSTED THERE WILL GET WIPED after the cutover.
We'll do a proper shakedown after we move.
Best,
Haken

I'm out. Nice knowing y'all.
Hey Google, What is UAT and is it safe?
A "uat" subdomain is generally safe if it belongs to a company you trust, but you should treat it with caution.
"UAT" stands for User Acceptance Testing. Companies use these subdomains (like ) as a staging area to test new features or software updates before releasing them to the general public.
??? When it is safe
• Official testing: If you are an employee, client, or beta tester explicitly invited by the company to test their software.
• Legitimate domain structure: The "uat" must be a true subdomain of a trusted site (e.g., , not ).
?? Risks to watch out for
• Phishing scams: Scammers often look for abandoned or poorly secured UAT sites to host malicious pages. They might also create fake domains containing "uat" to look like a technical testing site.
• Data security bugs: Because these are testing environments, they may not have the same level of security or encryption as the live website. Never enter real financial details, primary passwords, or sensitive personal data on a UAT site unless explicitly instructed by your organization using dummy data.
• Broken features: The site might be unstable, slow, or contain software bugs, as that is the purpose of a testing environment.
That and Haken hasn't answered any question about this AI he's unleashing on everyone who hasn't posted here in 20 years too.
I've been fairly confident he's a glowie for at least the last decade anyhow, and "Haken" isn't even the guy who started this site.

FYI, more than a few have wanted to sign up. I think they're hopeful that the animated series might happen.

I never saw this. I'm betting Jack will be here soon.
And Jack, I think very few here if any at all posted as themselves. I mostly see synonyms. Same goes with our Avatar identifying pictures. And I don't know anybody who has posted something online that didn't know it was there for good. Well, except maybe you.

Haken. I wrote this in the tags to you after we'd had a few volleys last night. When I came back today it looks like anything we were writing last night was gone, so I wanted to make sure you saw it if you missed it, and if you replied, I didn't see it before it was gone...
Appreciate ya. I'm sorry for being a dick to you. Sometimes I let the goons rile me up more than I should get riled, and since you stay out of these things and you don't take part in your own site, it's easy not to think of you as a person. I still have my reasons to doubt that you're not the Haken who started this site, just because I can't imagine why you ever would have all these years if we weren't all being studied by somebody... both what we're saying now and just the overall history of the site. But maybe you really are just a good guy who kept this place up and decided not to shut off the lights until the last person left. I would appreciate it really though if you made a post about everything. I've voiced my concerns about the subdomain, and the hearsay that you're using AI but not really to what purpose. Whoever you are, thanks for keeping the site up all these years. Sorry most of us left here aren't Shiny Happy People. Thanks for giving us all a healthy place to be assholes.
It's a little stilted speech there, because I was trying to make it all fit in a single Tag.

Man...
I forgot about the "Notify me when someone replies to my post" option since it hasn't worked in a decade. Woke up to a mailbox full of spam from Dumb and Dumber this morning.
Just unchecked that. Hopefully that stays unchecked now by default.

This site didn't come up for me yesterday.
No the login works again.
Formatting. Thread 67748 has the images/video thumbnails exceeding the width of the text.
The font size seems a lot larger than Friday. Maybe I just had a better setting on old version.
We might need a FAQ of how-to's for all the setups we forgot.
I gotta look at the tables.
The Most Recent list is now just a copy of RWED list. Great thing about the last version was that Recent Post list included everything EXCEPT RWED.

Time stamp for posting seems 2 hours farther East than last version.
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
WithIn threads, it seems the pages of posts are lopped off at 10.
ETA: never mind. Each page is now 100 posts.
Until the formatting, size, overlaps get corrected, it will be difficult to find anything.

I can fix that. Even I forgot these little details.

Also, it seems certain posts break the site's layout. Will deal with those as I encounter them. For example, you thread for the "Unemployment Rate Facts" is one of them. Will try and figure out why.

Also.when I rotate phone 90*, the formatting goes really wonky.

Haken,
Is the data still there, in the database? And it's just not able to display?
Or did the actual data get truncated?
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
For now, if my posts say "popped" it means "lopped"
Now that I can post with my phone again, I gotta disable the autocorrect malfunction.

Quote:To be clear, when I try to edit posts that have been lopped, the edit screen also only shows the part that was publicly displayed. The whole rest of the post is gone - many virtual pages worth.

Oh! You're doing this from a smartphone. That makes more sense now. I need to work on the layout for smaller screens like smartphones and mini-tablets.

Quote:ok, I have not looked at any thread on a desktop since Saturday. When I see that thread on a larger screen, I'll see how it is. That might be just a font size issue, the font sizes have not carried over from the legacy site format.

Also, the quote function does not indent now. This makes it harder to read who is quoting who. As if we're reading only posts from Thgr. - without functioning syntax.

If on my desktop computer I zoom my browser to 110 %, I lose tag it. And there is nothing on the right side of the screen. Everything is on the left.

I haven't gotten used to how wide the layout is on a desktop yet, but I can just shrink my window if I don't want the text spanning the full 3 feet wide or so on this big monitor. Would be a problem if the site didn't downsize along with the windows, but it does, so no big deal.
