OK. Here's question for y'all. I was singing the song from the Jaynestown episode, or at least humming it, when I thought "I bet the words to this song are on fireflyfans.net" Sure enough they are, but the town named in the song is "mudsore." Is that right?
I wish I had the episode to watch again, but from my memory I seem to recall them saying he was the hero of "Canton."

I believe that canton is the planet. Mudsore is the town. Hope that helps.

Well that helps a little bit. But what do they actually say in the words of the song... mudsore or canton? I believe the correct word is canton. I would bet on my crusty chin.
But check out the words that are used right here on fireflyfans.
They are wrong! ACK.

What is mudsore? I've never heard of Mudsore, only Canton.
Clearly, the song says, "The hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne!"
NO MUDSORE! Haken, what's up with Mudsore?

I've been doing a little research. Apparently, the original script called the town Mudsore, but then it was changed to Canton.
John Jabaley played the bartender in the episode Jayne's Town.
This is months old, but here are his comments:

JUST WRAPPED
A two day co-starring role on the new series "Firefly." Created by Joss Whedon (Buffy the vampire Slayer), Firefly will air on FOX. I play a bartender on a planet called "Canton" (formerly "Mudsore") in what is scheduled to be the 6th episode, "Jaynestown."
Hmm. I'm still looking around, I'll get to the bottom of this! The official Fox site carefully avoids giving the town a name in their episode review.

Yay! The hero of Canton! I love that episode too. It would be a pity if people thought and sang about the hero of mudsore...blah. The words definitely do not roll off the tongue. I am very glad they decided to change it. Thanks for the detective work Succatash.

Because that's what it said on the script that I got.
Exhibit A:

It was just a draft when I made the entry in the episode guide (weeks prior to when the episode even aired), but, of course, no one noticed it was there.

Wow, you have rough drafts of the scripts?
Are they framed on your wall?
That is cool.....

I am glad to be here. I will continue to thwart evil and injustice around the world. Fortunately, there was never any here to begin with. Thanks for responding to my query. You fella's rule.

Are you trying to taunt me Succatash? If so, good, I like that.

Not only was the name of the town changed to Canton, but the second verse was changed a bit as well. The final lyrics:
Now here is what separates heroes,
from common folk like you and I.
The man they call Jayne,
he turned 'round his plane,
and let that money hit sky.
He dropped it onto our houses,
he dropped it into our yards.
The man they called Jayne,
he stole away our pain,
and headed out for the stars!

Where did you get the scripts? Buffyscripts.net doesn't have them. StudiesInWords.de doesn't have them. I NEED! I NEED!
As I speak I am hyperventalating and making fidgiting hand motions.
While ya'll at it, can anyone hook me up with the scripts from this season's Angel?

"Whoa. Good Myth" has scripts up to "Objects in Space," but I don't know the URL off the top of my head
Sensou
The difference betwwen sports fans and sci-fi fans is that sci-fi fans have never trashed a train, booed Canada, or torn a man apart limb from limb.

They are transcripts, not shooting scripts. I prefer the latter, as they show the changes in the concept of the show over its shooting. Also, I like to see the way the writers describe a scene, rather than a fan's intrepretation. You can pick up some interesting stuff that way. Deleted quotes sometimes shed light on what the writers were getting at, etc.
But, anyway, the link is: http://firefly.shriftweb.org/index.shtml
