When Lady Luck was on my side – Starfury Serenity; My experience!

It’s taken me just over five days, and it’s long, but here it is. And I’ve logged all my experiences with the BDH’s, and there are some interesting tidbits in here!

Okay, there is so much to tell so I guess I’ll start at the beginning. I got to the Thistle and met with Phoebe and her friend Nina, and then we all met FirefloozieSuzie and her lovely daughter Sami. And later we met Zol. And then in the afternoon I had the pleasure of meet Emma and Relfexive.

Okay the opening ceremony… when Summer was announced, she came out and everyone was clapping and cheering, then when everyone had finished I shouted “I LOVE YOU!” and she looked over at me and smiled, and I was so pleased!

Then later that night, a few of my lucky friends got to go to the meet and greet. And me and another friend were waiting for them to come down. We figure it must be over, so we go up the stairs to check it out, and halfway up, who do I run into? ALAN TUDYK! And I go wide-eyed, completely amazed. But I managed to speak and say “Alan, hey.” And then he stopped in front of me, shook me hand (I was numb!) and says “Hey, how ya doin?” I couldn’t believe it. Then I said “Good, thanks.” And he said “Okay, cool. I’ll see you later.” And he went down the stairs. I started to breathe again when I looked up and saw Jewel coming down the stairs as well! And I say “Hi Jewel.” And she says “Hey.” And I can’t think of anything, then I remembered something. “My little brother told me to tell you that he loves you.” To which she replies “Aww, that’s nice.” Then as she’s walking out I hear her say “I love this song.” Then I managed to recover. But I was kinda disappointed that Jewel wasn’t too chatty.

Then a few minutes later I was milling around in the car park, on the phone to my friend, telling her all about my recent BDH encounters, when Alan walks out of the hotel and right past me! I told my friend he was right in front of me, so I hung up and walk over and he says “Hey.” Then a few minutes later, I go over to the crowd where he’s standing, and I find a spot right next to him, and so he’s on my left. Then I look to see who I’m standing next to, who’s on my right side…and it was NATHAN FILLION! And then Alan and Nathan start talking to me, and were all talking about the Contender and Nathan was so funny. Then they have to go, so I shake Alan’s hand and say “Bye.” And I very nearly almost got to shake Nathan’s hand too! But no. And then I saw that Mark Sheppard aka Badger was standing on the other side of Alan. So I shook his hand and said “I love your hat – it’s amazing.” And he goes “Why thank you very much.” And I’d like to add that he is British! I thought he was American! And Badger’s accent isn’t put on, although somewhat exaggerated.

Later I was crossing the car park and I ran into Chris Buchanan, and he stopped and we talked for about 10 minutes. We talked about the cast, and how they are so much like a family. And we talked about the cancellation, and how determined Joss was to not give up. And that they decided on the film. Then I apologised for killing him on the “Buffy: Chaos Bleeds” game. And we talked about both Buffy games, and then about a Serenity game. And he told me that they will be doing one! Yay! That was pretty much it for my BDH encounters on Friday. I was completely dumbstruck, I had met 5 out of 8 of the BDH’s there within 4 hours of the opening ceremony.

Saturday

In the morning I had my first photo session! With Summer (drool!), Morena, and Jewel! And the first one was? Summer! My knees were shaking as I got closer and closer to the front of the cue. She looked amazing. She was wearing a short frayed, denim skirt, and I have to agree with Zol that her legs look amazing, brown boots, and a cream top. Then it comes to my turn. So I go up to her and say “Hi.” And she says “Hey.” Then I say… “Last night when you came out, when everyone had finished clapping and someone shouted ‘I LOVE YOU!’- that was me.” And she said “Aww, thank you!” and the next thing I know, she throws her arms around me and hugs me! I’m in heave

Yes, we all hate you Matt, but mostly I hate the people who didn't take a picture of Summer hugging you after the closing ceremony.

SOMEBODY must've noticed you two grappling each other; like you said, that hug went on for extra innings. (If my camera could've taken decent pictures, I'd have had time to shoot a dozen.)

So whoever is out there with a picture of Matt's big makeout session with Summer? Post it already!

Hi and thanks for the report, we were there and had a great time, the guests really made the weekend special.

I was there with my two small daughters and Summer made a great fuss of them, blowing them kisses from the stage during the closing ceremony and during our autograph session with Summer she thanked us for bringing the girls, she said 'They have made my weekend'

We had many great encounters with other cast members, including being stopped by Nathan in the carpark after the closing session and being asked by him if we would mind if he took our photo ! Which he did 'There, a photo of my favorite family' One for the Fillion album ?

Still glowing a week later !

I didn't realise it was you who said about Ron's laugh either - I couldn't see the microphone at the front so well during that session. Good questions though.

Thanks for the recap Psychic River!

I love hearing peoples stories from cons, my memory is appalling so i need all the reminiscing i can get. Its also great to be thinking - oh yeah i remember when that happened - or when jewel said that etc.

It really was the best con ever! Until Serenity Squared that is!

I know what you mean - I still keep remembering stuff. It's why I've not written such a definitive report as this one as yet.

Mind you - here's something: remember how during the photo ops some folks would get to talk to the guest(s) in question for a spell while the film got changed in the camera?

I got to do that. With a certain Mr Nathan Fillion

And what did we talk about? How we still use miles instead of kilometres, and how we recently-ish had to start using metric for weights and such. I know, I know: exciting, heady stuff! I was just agreeing that yes, metric is better, makes more sense, when it was picture time and then I had to go.

If only I could forget how, when asked where I had come from, I babbled something about coming from Derbyshire. Then he pointed out that he wasn't "a local boy" and didn't know how far away that was from London. Doh!

Ah well.

Hmmm... if only I could remember who it was who told me they had a nice little chat with Summer about how they had gotten their jumper from the Edinburgh Wool Shop... That must've been fun

Oh, and I almost forgot: somewhere out there is a car, and on it's dashboard is one of those Serenity patches. The patch came from me; the dashboard belongs to some guy named Nathan

hey when did you have your photo with Nathan? Because i just missed out on getting to chat whilst roles were being changed on Saturday. I went to pick up my bag then turned around and saw that the person behind me had been the lucky one - could have been you i was wishing i had let go before me!
