This has been posted elsewhere but I thought I would post it in a seperate thread.

I`m Booked for the Hitchhikers Exhibition at the National Science Museum in London on the 28th May (Saturday) - booked for the exhibition entry at 12pm (meetup 30 mins before)

So please say here, if you are coming or intend to come or are just thinking about it.

Cheers now,

Darin (Zol.)

p.s. just ask me for more info.

Got my ticket booked....

Just to clarify, this is a timed event. Zol & I have both bought tickets for 12pm but obviously many other times are available if that's too soon. And of course we can always meet up with people later on if you can't make (or aren't interested) in the exhibition.

Having now booked my ticket for Serenity 2 (can't be bothered with that squared nonsense!), am hoping to meet some fellow Browncoats beforehand so there are some familiar faces at the Radisson!

"Can't think of a reason."

I'm thinking about it.

How and when are you travelling Zol? If you're going from Cheltenham could we travel together, which would be more fun than going on the train by myself?

I'm gonna try to get down there like I said BUT it all hinges on if I can, well, a) afford train and b) get someone to go with me. Unfortunately, I'll still have another 2 days left after that till I'm eighteen LOL which means my mother can still stop me from going alone.

I usually catch the 412 National Coach service early in the morning (6am - you can say it now!) when I go to London and arrive around 10am (London Victoria Station)- it`s fairly convienent and relatively cheap (about £17.50 if I remember right), and then there`s the tube to but, it works out a lot cheaper than travelling by Car & paying for Parking etc. You`d be more than welcome to get up early in the morning & join me

Phoebe is your Hitchhikers Guide friend still interested in going? I wouldn`t have thought there would be too much of a problem - as per travelling, you might be able to get a National Express coach form Stoke quite cheeply - try http://www.nationalexpress.com/bp/b2.cfm?id=26273748 or if that doesn`t work just the www.nationalexpress.com bit

EEK! 6am til 10am sounds a bit difficult! Usually on Saturdays I get up around 11am. However 6am doesn't actually match up with any of the times on the National Express website:

http://www.nationalexpress.com/bp/b2.cfm?id=26277715

Did you mean leaving 6:30am and arriving 9:20am? I prefer the idea of leaving 8am and arriving 10:20am instead. It is a more civilized time and it is half an hour quicker because it doesn't stop everywhere on the way.

I'm still a maybe and I'm not sure whether to be sociable or get some sleep in the morning!

sorry, yes I did mean the 6.30, I forgot the lightly different time on weekends

The trouble with a later time is tht you hit the traffic (and this is a bankholiday weekend too)
However I didn`t notice the funfare seats - cheap seats.

I think could manage 8am, it`ll still leave an hour to walk or travel to the Museum.

Return time depends on what people actually want to do - given an hour for the exhibition (being optomistic) and whether people want to go around the actual museum - a visit to the Forbidden Planet Store, and food/drink etc.

there`s a coach returning at 8.30pm & then one at 11.30pm - I`m again a sucker for the late coach, seeing london at night is great! but I`m open to what others think

I'm up for the late 11:30pm finish. I'd rather have the time in London in the evening than in the morning.

I've made up my mind now to come. I just tried to book my Science museum ticket online but it keeps failing. I'll try by phone tomorrow.

I might have my new camera by then as well - I say might because it was on Back Order and then it was Back Ordered on that Back Order - Stock is due in on the 18th (so that`s next week) can`t wait.

lots have shut recently the crown and the bull and mouth used to be our regulars

the angel on denmark street is a samuel smiths pub so the drinks are nice and quite cheap for central london and you a fairly relaxed crowd

museum tavern on museum street is ok often a bit busy and there is an all bar one on new oxford street that always has lots of space but a bit more pricey

few more around but can't recall them all now - gotta dash out of work for a meeting but i might remeber em by the morrow!!!

I must apologise for any part I may have played in the demise of The Bull & Mouth - used to do debt recovery for Camden Council and sent the bailiff's round there more times than I can remember!! Was always too smokey in there for my liking.

Don't think i know The Angel. We'd usually head down Kingsway.

And despite working in London for nearly seven years, I've yet to go to an All Bar One!

I was ceratinly hoping to have a sitdown meal after 6pm to give chance for some to meetup - either Pizza or something similar - Also if Phoebe can make it, must remember that phoebe`s not 18 until the Tuesday, that may give some problems with certain pubs, although I`m not ruling out the pub thing we just need to cater for everybody.

Oh! I wish I was coming! Unfortunatly/fortunatly it is my last ever Summer Ball on the 28th! I thought long and hard about whether I wanted to get all dolled up in my ball gown or whether I wanted to venture up to London to meet some fellow Browncoats! I decided on the former. I figured I'm going to Serenity 2 so I'll not have missed my chance to meet at least some of you.

Have a brilliant time though. Be sure to think of all the people who'd love to be there but can't be.

The problem we have with people saying certain times is that it may not be possible - I certainly wouldn`t want to rush food just to get to a pub. Forbidden Planet closes at 7pm, so If people wanted to meet there before it closed and we then went on for food (remember if people are finishing work at 6pm - 6.30 eat time may be a little rushed (especially if travelling)

Can we have a bit of order here, I made the suggestion in the 1st place about the meetup, and whilst it`s fine to include people, If we try to accomodate everybody, it won`t be a relaxing day out. best thing to do is either send me a PM with your contact details and I can return you my mobile number (if you can`t make the initial Hitchhikers Meetup) and then you will be able to find out where we are at a certain time.

1st thing we will be doing on Saturday is `Hitchhikers` exhibition at Londons Science Museum - 12pm Entry

Then depending on what time we get out of the exhibition, maybe a quick bite to eat (snack & coffee shop).

Then there will be a bit of time to choose what to do next until going to Forbidden Planet later, enabling others to join up - and from there go for food & afterwards if we don`t get tied down talking, a nearby Pub (the Pub depends on Phoebe and her friend too).

The final coach back for me is at 2330 from London Victoria - so will need to leave just before 2300 (2245) to get to the coach station with a bit of time to spare (this is the last coach, If I miss it, there isn`t another till the early morning)

Well obviously I'll be at the Exhibition at 12.00 so will see you & Nik-Nak there. That gives us a fairly lengthy afternoon to fill, can't see that we'll be too rushed & hopefully should be OK to meet, for instance, Becsthebeast at around 6ish. Seems a good idea for us to end up in the area around FP as so many nice places to eat there.

Hopefully we can sort out a fairly definite plan in the next week & people can decide whether they can make it or not.

Over to you Captain!

Absolutely right.

I suggested a venue once. Someone didn't like it so I compromised and, although we had a fun time, said person didn't turn up and a lot of people liked the idea of the other venue.

Organiser has the last word, especially as you've taken the time to sort it out.

I'll post a PM with mobile number and hang out until people are "settled" post food. I can say the youngsters are my daughters.

hey - i was only suggesting places that i know around the area as this is where i do a lot of my drinking and eating!

i was assuming that on the day it'll depend on how it goes as to when and where people want to move - its a little hard to know what people you've never met before are gonna want to do

it seems to me we have a pretty good plan (and remember the best thing about plans is its much easier to change them once you have 'em!)

science museum at 12pm and forbidden planet sometime towards the end of the afternoon
and then some drinking and/or eating

Personally I just hope we can group together around 6.30-7ish for a nice relaxing meal before everyone has to go their separate ways (have to confess I prefer restaurants to pubs).

Am sure your suggestion for the restaurant is a good one - the main problem just seems to be getting everyone to agree to be at one place at more or less the same time. But hey, we can sort it out!

So, out of the people who've expressed an interest in going, how many of you have met before?

I tend to agree about the pub thing, it`s nice to have a drink with fellow browncoats but it`s much more easier to talk in a cafe or restuarant.

BTw is there anywhere that needs a visit in between Hitchhikers & Forbidden Planet?

I think the weather may dictate a little - here`s hoping for a lovely sunny day.

I actually haven`t bothered to find a multi-toned firefly theme for my phone, I think it`s set to standard US ring

If the weather is good and peoples legs areup for it, a walk along the Embankment is good, especially if the street performers are out (you know the ones, the clockwork guard, the living statues (Hero of Canton?) etc.)

But I`m easy going as long as we begin at the Science Museum & End at Forbidden Planet, should be pretty easy day.

Frustratingly missed this!

Been offsite - literally - for the past Month.

Just thought I'd say that if anyone is planning anything else similar, then www.megabus.com are stupidly cheap for those with a small budget. They only go from major city to major city and they are bargain bucket, but £9 return from Sheffield to London is v cheap indeed! Have a look, it's opened up the Uk for me!

Anybody else interested? Still haven`t heard from Phoebe, and whether she & her friend are coming.

28th May 1pm London Science Museum - entry to Hitchhikers Exhibition, then a full day out with a friendly meal at the end of the day.

Darin (Zol.)

p.s. If people an`t make the exhibition, they can still catch up with us later, just send me a PM with you email address, and I can see about sending my mobile number.

I've hopefully recruited an extra Browncoat - her name's Jaina and she runs the excellent Dusk Til Dawn site. She doesn't post here (not yet - we have time to work on her!) but some of you will know her from the Starfury site. Like me she'll be a first-timer at Serenity 2 so would like to meet some Browncoats beforehand.

Anyhow, she'll hopefully be joining us at some point on Saturday.

I haven`t seen SW-Episode 3 yet, made a little boo-boo in my plans, what with a meal on friday & London on Saturday - I`m not going to suggest seeing it whilst in london, it wouldn`t be right to sit for 3 hours to watch something I can do at any time.

I must remember to bring the London Map (always useful) even though I have been known to exit Harrods and head in the totally wrong direction.

Weather looks like it could just be quite nice (although it`s only Tuesday so things ould change

It was a lovely sunny day in London yesterday, here's hoping we get the same.

Next event for me after this is the Film & Comic Con in London on the 25th June - Joss may(or may not) be there - but it will be a good place to be - even if some people will be going to the Starfury Event over the same days - mabe they are trying to get hold of Joss too?

I would hope that Joss will do the film & Comic Con for the exposure, rather than being locked away in a convention hotel

July will be a good time to have another meetup & maybe will have more info on the August Shindig/Memorabelia Event which will be a blast (and did I say that I`m getting 20x Jayne Cobb Hats for people attending to purchase?)

I am SO sorry, but I'm not going to be able to make it. I have this slight issue where my mother's spent every day for the last year telling me (in her words) what an ungrateful, backstabbing, selfish little shit I am, and that she wouldn't give a toss if I decided to go jump. Since I'm not 18 till Tuesday, she's decided I'm not allowed to go to London on my own till Tuesday. She had great delight in telling me this while I've been in the middle of an asthma attack over the last week.

I'm really sorry. I really DID want to go but... well... my delightful mother has the last say. I guess in the last three days she has hold over me, she wants to USE that hold.

Yeah. That's where I've been recently, sorry for my disappearing act. Though, be thankful I DIDNT take my mother's advice and go jump.

sorry

Sorry you couldn`t make it Phoebe.

It looks like we may just be meeting up for the London Film & Comic Con June 25th at Earls Court, so all is not lost - if you see the adverts (offline), you will see that Joss is announced (but not guarenteed).

I had a good day guys, although I got back to a parking ticket on my car (even though there wasn`t any clear signs [I did find one eventualy albeit a very small permit holders only sign] ])

Anyhow, It was good to see a few new faces, my feet hurt & I`m pretty tired (got home about 2.45am)

so, today is going to be a slow day to recover.

Thanks to Fray, NikNik, StevieB, PrettyinPink & BecstheBeast for bying there.

Oh and if anyone is thinking of going to the Hitchhikers Guide to theGalaxy Exhibition, is good but wasn`t allowed to take photos - but I do have a photo of 3 of us outside the HeartofGold Esacpe Pod

I realised I didn`t get a group photo at the restuarnt, so someone else will have to post that.

2nd July, 2nd July, 2nd July, 2nd July

Anybody taking the hint? Bait? Brainwashing?

I will be in England then and am keeping the day free, desparately hoping you guys decide to make the next London shindig the 2nd July.

I have even checked out some stuff:
As Wash would love it the Natural Histpry Museum has re-done its T-REx (it now responds to visitors) and the Diplodocus is 100 years old this year - they are celebrating with a special exhibition.

The PRIDE parade is happening that day which could be fun (I was trying to work in Inara somehow but that seems tenuous - sex workers are represented though, so maybe).

Especially for Kaylee there is an exhibition at the V&A called 'Touch Me' where you get to walk around and squeeze doorbells and walk barefoot on weird rugs and do other weird touchy-feely things.

Anyone fancy any of them or anything else? I will be mortified if there isn't someking of Shindig on the 2nd and will 'sqweam and sqweam until I am sick'

Only joking, but it would be cool all the same...

No guest, including Joss, is "locked away" in a convention hotel. If they do a convention, it is because they want to.

As far as I am concerned, attendees who have paid to be at Starfury conventions are just as entitled to see guests as those who attend LFFC

The thing I was getting at with my comment was that it would increase his exposure to other people rather than an already built up fanbase - of course in an ideal world things just wouldn`t clash & there would be enough time for everybody to get around.

If tickets are free we can all try and get some? Now that would be a shindig!

I just can't believe it will be free - but hey, all will be revealed soon. Will be damned hard to get into, whatever.

But I'm still very upset about the Spice Girls... Not sure I care for you anymore Emma....!
