DragonCon Update - Call for Volunteers

I finally found the "send me my password" option so I was able to actually log in. :)

Rich (sendmeawave) has advised he no longer has the time to devote to the Southeastern Browncoats. He has asked that I coordinate the activities of the organization, particularly in regards to the upcoming DragonCon convention.

With that in mind, I have scheduled a meeting of Volunteer Browncoats in Atlanta. We don’t just need bodies, we need creative minds, too.

I understand many of you would like to volunteer but will not be here in town until the convention begins. You can still help. Please email me your screen name(s), real name and contact information as well as what you are able to contribute (money, time in the booth, decorating committee, etc.).

I do have a Paypal account that will be used only for the SEBC going forward and if you email me a request I will forward that information to you. A complete record keeping of funds received and monies spent will of course be available upon your email request two weeks after the end of DragonCon. I will be using my cash to fund things for now, so help is appreciated!

The first meeting of volunteers will be held at a Public Library in Atlanta on Saturday, June 4th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Cookies, soft drinks and an agenda will be provided. Do NOT call the library directly for directions (they were very adamant about this.). I will provide you that information when you advise me you will be attending. Due to their parking space limitations, I need to you RSVP to me BY EMAIL if you will attend the meeting – ideally by June 1st. This is also so I can have enough of said soft drinks, cookies and agendas. ;-)

Now as to the issues we hope to address at this meeting:

There is talk of an “official” Shindig from the American SciFi Track on Friday night, but from what I understand we will do all the work. Initial planning needs to be discussed and I hope to obtain further information from the American SciFi Track before our meeting.

The SEBC would like to have a Browncoat Ball on Saturday night. If someone takes offense at our using the name Browncoat Ball please let me know. We will need to begin the planning for this as well. I am currently in discussions with the hotels to determine if space is available.

We will need to start discussions on the booth itself - goals and objectives, staffing the booth, materials, etc.

DragonCon ’05 is going to be spectacular. We have our cast of BDH’s coming. AND Joss. Himself. We need to make sure the Browncoats show everyone we know how to put on a good party.

NDreams sign me up long distance, please! I'm in ST. Pete Florida. Screen name FireflyGal, e-mail realflygal@hotmail.com, real name Aleta*. Wish I could contribute money but I just got laid off. There was a post a short while back with a possibly very generous donation offer, I believe it was in the 5 BDH's at DragonCon post. A Lady Browncoat was asking about a con suite. I don't know if she may have contacted SendMeAWave already but she should certainly be contacted. A suggestion, if possible, through DragonCon ask if they would extend an invitation to our after hours functions to the cast and Joss. If it's anything like last year, Adam at least will probably show up. Another thought is sponserships from local sci-fi shops and or sci-fi magazines for have their logo or similar up during the Browncoat Ball and any other shindig?

It is so great of you to take this on. My daughter and I will be happy to help in any way we can. It'll have to be long distance since we live in Annapolis. We'll be at the Con Thursday through Sunday. I'll e-mail you with vital statistics. As this is our first Con, I think being involved with helping out will make it even more special.

Hey back at ya FFG1!

Yep, daughter and I have been into Joss generally and Firefly specifically for quite some time, but are just now really getting into being part of the community as it were. And what better way than to just jump right on in and get totally involved! Can't wait to meet you too, and all the other loyal Browncoats who will be at Dragon*Con. And I really do think helping out will make it even more fun.

I think I'll wait and pick up the lanyards and pins at the Con. Hopefully we'll be able to help you sell them there.

I'll be thinkin about ya Thursday when I'm at the DC screening. I'm so excited I can't hardly stand it!

And again to all the other Browncoats attending Dragon*Con - let's all get involved and have some fun! And let's show those West Coasters (God love ya! You guys get all the good Cons) that the us East Coasters can put on one whale of a Browncoat event!

Cary, I contacted you via the SE Browncoats board, but just a reminder, contact me for graphics help, signs, flyers, and I also plan on bringing my interactive "Firefly Facts" and trivia computer project that we can have on a laptop at the booth.

I'll work a bit at the booth, and gladly help with decorating, etc. for the Shindig and Browncoat Ball.

Can't wait to see everyone again, and meet some of you new Browncoats as well!

Hey troops!

FYI, I posted over at the "Official" board regarding this thread. There have been some threads there regarding Dragon*Con so I let them know that NDreams has graciously offered to be the organizer and gave them this link and told them to get over here and volunteer. Their threads seem to move really fast, so it might behoove us to bop over there now and then and "bump" things up. I'm assuming that NDreams will hopefully post over there after their first meeting with some info. We'll see what happens.

Hey BB1 good thinking on keeping the official board thread bumped up, as well as keeping this one up there in the top 10. It sounds like we'll have plenty of Browncoat Power at DC, it's the $$$ and local Browncoats that there seems to be a shortage of beforehand. I don't know if Sita has e-mailed NDreams on the side about a donation or not. I just lost my job, so my finances suck. Luckily the money for DC was already set aside and NO WAY is that going towards bills.
