One of my sources has confirmed that Firefly will air in the UK.
According to a response Sci-Fi UK sent him, Sci-Fi UK currently holds the right to Firefly and the series is slated to appear in their May schedule.

I hope this is true. Can you please provide a link to any info you may have about this? I would surely appreciate it.

WAAA-HOOOO!!!
Thanks SO much for checking this, Haken, and confirming a lot of Browncoats' deep-held wishes!!
How very righteous! But, best speed up the schedule of those script postings; looks like the Brits are gonna scoop you...

You know, when we kept reading about Joss still looking at "other avenues" and telling us that our show "wasn't dead yet", it helped to keep hope alive. But now, with this info, I'm ecstatic! I'm not a UK resident, but I'm glad to see that Serenity will keep flying high, even if it isn't over my cable airwaves.
Is there any chance that a US cable/dish/satellite company will be able to pick up this station so we can watch?
Thanks!

Is Sci-Fi UK a seperate entity from Sci-Fi US, or is there a single parent company? If so, wouldn't that mean Sci-Fi US also has the rights to air episodes?

How will we in the US recieve the show. Also do they hold the rights only to the existing episoeds or will they be making more?

Check out http://www.scifiuk.com where the Firefly discussion folder is in the "General Discussions" area.

I think that they are wholly separate, at the very least in terms of programming--SCIFIUK has aired stuff in the past that SciFi Channel here in the US owned by USA Network has never aired (Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, for example, or Witchblade).
20th Century Fox would have to negotiate a separate deal, to sell the rights to air the current eps in the US. Usually, those deals happen over the summer at NATPE in Vegas, but with the initial order of 13 +2, rather than a full season, I have no idea if we'll ever see the show in syndication in the US, unless it shows up on Fox owner FX...
usually you need a *minimum* of 65-100 episodes to syndicate (strip) a show. However, SciFi and FX have in the past run niche programming, particularly genre stuff, with much much shorter runs.
Of course, in the UK, 6-12 episodes *is* a normal full season, so it's not so big a deal.

Here's a reply I got to an email to SciFi:
Quote:
Dear Tabitha,
I can now confirm that Sci-Fi will be showing "Firefly", and that the show will appear in our May schedule. I can also confirm that we shall be airing the 3 previously unaired episodes that did not air in the States. This will make the number of episodes in the series 15.
I can also tell you that we shall be airing John Doe in the very near future, though I do not have a start date as of yet.
I think you'll agree that this is certainly an exciting time for the channel.
Kind Regards

Sci-Fi
(The John Doe thing is because I also gave them a list of other shows I'd like to see in my reply too
)Now the only question is what order they will be running in!

I'm not sure but I think the first episode will be The Train Job and this will be shown on May 12th.

Now why on Earth would SciFi UK make the same mistake as Fox and willingly fail to show Firefly's pilot episode first?
Someone send SciFi UK the correct viewing order of Firefly, please!!

If you look at the Scifi message boards (in the "Interact" section) there already seems to be a lot of noise about getting the airing order right - in an email to them I suggested airing them in the intended order, I hope other people are doing the same.

You're right - that message has been given loud and clear. I just joined the SciFi UK forum for the purpose of posting a message about how great the show is, but ended up not posting when I saw the "tetchy" reaction that similar messages were eliciting from the UK fans. I guess American good will is meeting with suspicion everywhere these days.
Overall, it bodes well for the show. Firefly does best with the independent-minded. I thought the premise was a bit hokey myself, until Our Mrs. Reynolds dropped me like a ton of bricks - and the rest was history.

Yay! At least we'll be able to download the eps soon if they don't release some freaking dvds!

Sorry you got a 'tetchy' response LJB064. Some of us still love you and I think that joining the forum to tell us about the show was a very nice thing to do.
I have downloaded bits and pieces of eps but I cannot wait to see them and hopefully get them on video. I wish that Sci Fi (UK) would commission more but at least we will have the 15 that do exist and I can drool over Mal as much as I like.

The full series of Firefly will air on South African TV (channel: SABC 3) starting 15 April.
(first episode: "The Train Job")

Doh, double post.

God, they're as bad as fox if not worse.
First, they air them out of order, AGAIN!
Second, anyone notice the catagory? Youth / Children
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Weird categorising..... Didn't notice that myself.
I have sent a couple of emails regarding the correct airing order - no speedy reply like I got before.
Personally my fingers are crossed for the channel getting the message sometime soon.
One thing I was wondering, if they do go ahead and run The Train Job as the first episode and then air the remaining episodes in Fox's bizarre order, what will they do once they get to Objects in Space? Will they air it, then air Serenity, and THEN go on with the last last three episodes?
I hope not

From the Sci-Fi forum:
Well I have some really good news regarding Firefly - Having talked to TPTB they have changed their running order & will air "Serenity" first, followed by "Train Job".

I had the same reaction to Our Mrs. Reynolds. I was willing to check out the show but hadn't been convinced 'til then. Had me laughing out loud like a small child. Ahhh good TV.

Will all episodes be in the correct order? Or just Serenity first?

Hot off the press:
And yes we have been swamped by requests for "Serenity" to be aired out first - based upon your requests & my own recommendation (I've seen the whole series..) TPTB decided that it would be best to air the show in sequence
Which is nice :-D

Okay, I haven't been on this site for such a long time I had to get my password sent to me, how embarrassing I never write those things down.
Anyway, used to hover around here getting all excited about joss whedon new project, nathan fillion, cowboys and major US envy as with most shows that are released, ever.
I live in England, and having just started watching the eps on scifi (just saw shindig, they have been in order so far from what I can establish) I felt the need to come back.
Okay the first one felt a bit weird, wasn't too keen on the intro music, was a little slow, but had those little things... little unexpected reactions, actions, visuals...
I was starting with a +ve bias, try not to get too attached coz it's going the way of brimstone, but definitely +ve. And, oh look, obsessed again!
Did you know we can actually watch it 5 times in one week, it airs monday 8pm, monday 11.40pm, friday 8pm, sunday 7pm and then monday 7pm before the next new episode... needless to say the fearful 'I hope I set up the VCR to record my favourite show' feeling is pretty redundant!
And yeah, anyway, its bloody great, why the hell did they cancel it, were they expecting it to be as popular within 15 episodes as buffy has become in over a hundred? no one liked angel first season anyway (before offense sets in no one = media)
Jeez, even my dad likes it and he hates everything, the kicking him into the engine did it for him! And I was playing the mal/bad word game way before the psychic. and that's the appeal! the people arent very nice, just like real people! oh and I like the more natural feel to the camera work, you never realise that something could be missing from buffy until you see it somewhere else, but they did all appear to be 'saved by the bell' facing the audience at points!
And I was right, kaylee is my early willow so I can enjoy wanting to be her (you miss being innocent) and I'm quite alarmed by the dumbass appeal of Jayne, bless!
so anyway, I've written enuff that I can't be bothered to check for typos! If they show the unaired episodes before Scifiuk realise that they're benefiting humanity and stop showing episodes at all i will try not to tease you all, mwahahaha
