Now that there are DVDs, a film , RPGs, comic books and action figures based on our favorite band of browncoats, what shall we officially refer to this franchise as... the "Firefly franchise" or the "Serenity franchise"?

I vote for "Firefly franchise" myself.

Overall, I'd vote for Firefly franchise.

Unfortunately, the official RPG-related franchise has to be referred to as the Serenity franchise (more power to Jamie and co. for getting the rights to do the RPG based on the movie!)

How about Fireflinity or Serenifly. No? Oh well...

I can see much of it going under the name of Serenity since that's the name that's going to be the most mainstream with it being a movie and all. I imagine Firefly would appear somewhere on the cover of the merchandise but said merchandise would not go under the name 'Firefly'. Did that make sense? Twice in one day? Surely not!

Sirenlty - alternating letters between Serenity and Firefly. Sounds good to me. Who's with me? *crickets chirping*

Anyway I think we might as well accept that Serenity is the new face of our BDHs. Change is good and stuff.

I just thought of an overly evil thing that Fox could do. You think if Serenity is a huge hit they might come out with Firefly action figures just to capitalize on the BDMs success?

OK, so franchise isn't the best word to use. How about refering to it as:

The Firefly 'verse.

Then people will be able to tell us apart from the new fans talking about the Serenity universe. All shall look up to us in awe and admiration for being the original flans . Either that or they'll think we're just weird.

Anyway - Serenity must have been Joss's second choice of name after Firefly otherwise we'd have had a Serenity TV series.

Firefly is such a good meaningless word

to me serenity is what the show is all about how the crew members suck at living in this world and cant find a home anywhere else except on this piece of gossa ship , its where they find serenity

so i think its better to call it firefly cause firefly is an inimportant thing to the show but serenity is a word that should be charished with some value as an important phrase

I hope it'll stay known as the firefly 'verse but if the films a success (as we all hope) then I would imagine all subsequent merch and tie ins will refer to it as serenity and the word firefly may get a little lost except to us old timers.

Persoanlly I still see it as the Firefly franchise because "Serenity" is only the name of the first film.What if they call the second film something like "Persephone" for example? I don't refer to the "New Hope" franchise, I refer to the "Star Wars" franchise cos thats what it was at first.

As much as Id probably like to see something like persephone to be the title of a sequel ( Im not sure serenity 2 works) Id be suprised if universal changed the name, companies dont like to confuse their customers and universal didn't have a resounding success when pitch black became the chronicles of riddick.

Bad thing is... the name Serenity doesn't really draw people in. It has meaning to us fans but not to anyone else. I keep mentioning this movie to my boss and this is what he told me the other day. "Serenity? Sounds kinda boring. How exciting could a movie be with the name Serenity?"

That's not exactly what he said but pretty close. I then, of course, proceeded to tell him why that its the name of the ship and how the ship got its name.

So I hope the name doesn't turn anyone else away. Once the previews start really pumping through every media medium, hopefully the name Serenity won't sound so peaceful and "boring" anymore.
