Okay, I wondered if anybody can find/create a Firefly theme song ringtone. I found a link to one site, but it in MP3 format and the Nokia I have won't use it.
Does anybody know a site that has it? I'm hoping to find it in the older mono format. Don't get me wrong, if someone finds it in the new polyphonic format, I WILL buy a new phone

No sacrifice is too great for hearing that song every time my phone rings!!

My Kyocera phone actually came with a ringtone called "Firefly" - alas, it has nothing to do with our show (and is a pretty crappy ringtone besides).

Disclaimer: All this is posted by others -- specifically, big shouts to MrToade and IllBeInMyBunk -- only reposted by me as service to community... All of this is free; although the WAP service is amenable to donations, no money necessarily must be exchanged.

Okay, go here first to download MIDIs: http://home.comcast.net/~mrtoade/FORnokiafirefly.mid
(for Nokias or other Type 0 MIDI phones)
or
http://home.comcast.net/~mrtoade/FORfirefly2.MID
(for other Type 1 MIDI phones)

Next go to http://www.wap.pcs3g.com/ and 'Relay' the ringtone to them. It will then be available for download from your cellular. Must be 'web-connected', which late-model Nokias are by default.

It was a little tricky, so if you need more specific help, just reply to this message and I'll give you a step-by-step for Nokia 3595. Mileage may differ for other handsets... Hope this helps.

I, too, would love to use the Firefly theme on my phone! I followed the instructions above and relayed the file to http://www.wap.pcs3g.com/additems.php, and then to my phone - I even got a confirmation back saying the ringtone had been relayed.

Only now.. I have no idea where to find it, despite having poked around on my phone in every nook and cranny. Any suggestions?

I'm using a Motorola T720, from Cingular. Anyone have that phone, or know anything about it?

hi shiny
I'm in the same shape. I downloaded the polyphonic - it sounds great - but I have a crappy old Nokia 3390 (?) that I inherited from my daughter when she got a snazzy new phone. What's wrong with THAT picture!?!
Anyway, I want a newer phone but unless you sign a new contract with T-Mobile they are mad expensive. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet..I hate it because I'm going after-contract with a great plan they don't offer anymore..rats!
Oh well, better start investigating options, 'cause I WANT that ring

Aerrin, et al:

If your Motorola, et cetera, is anything like my Nokia (and some things would have to be common within a specific class of electronic gizmos, presumably), you would have received an alert saying, "1 message received". On my Nokia 3595, I select 'Show', then 'Options', then I select, 'Use detail'. Then select 'Web Address'. I then press 'Options' and select the 'Go to' menu item on the next screen. The phone connects to the web and downloads the ringer, which I can then 'Save', 'Discard' or 'Playback' (do this to make sure it'll work with your phone; if it doesn't, try the other MIDI format from the links above).

Once you're sure it'll play on your phone, 'Save' it to the 'Tones' folder in your 'Gallery' main menu item. Now you can set it as your ringtone. You will also probably need to adjust your ringer volume to 'Full', because the the MIDI is somewhat muted. At full volume, I can hear it just fine, and my hearing is atrocious (old rocker's disease, i.e., 100-watt Marshall stacks on either side for 10 years)

If you're working on a different handset, hopefully this will point you in the right direction; you may have to take out the 'miniature War and Peace' (user's guide) that came with your phone in order to get to some of the more arcane specific settings. A virgin sacrifice or a dove's entrails may also be required...

Hopefully Helpfully(?),

Huh. Interesting. Despite the conformation, I never recieved any sort of message on my phone.

Thanks for the information, though - muchly appreciated!

In digging out the Cell Phone Bible, I wonder - does anyone have a 'code' to type in to create the tone, or a similiar one, yourself, for those of us who can't seem to get the 'net to work for us?

Just a note to anyone who might want it -

Thanks to some changes in my phone, I now have Firefly ringing! However, my phone tends to ring quietly, so the midi was far too soft to be useful for me. Thus, I did a bit of googling and a bit of fussing and upped the volume to a level that's more useable for me.

There's a /tad/ bit of a quality issue, but not enough to bother me.

I note this here in case anyone else is having the same issue and would like a copy of the midi that I made louder. If so, drop me a message and we can work out emailing or IMing it to you!

And thanks to whoever first created the midi!

If you GOOGLE you can find out lots of info on things like this.

My LG VX6000 can play the entire MP3 Firefly theme. I changd the file extension to MID in Windows explorer and uploaded it via the USB cable. It's a little muted but works just fine.

Mine is a Nokia, so it may be different, but here's what I do: There's a menu item that's called "services" (it has a little globe icon). Subitems include Homepage and Bookmarks. Choose the one called Go to address, and you'll get a textfield with "http://" already written in it. Fill out the rest (" http://home.comcast.net/~mrtoade/FORnokiafirefly.mid" - that's for the nokia, you should perhaps use the other one), and press OK. The download starts, and when prompted you just choose 'Save ringtone', and you'll have it on your phone.

jossisagod:

It looks to me like Sasja answered your question just two posts up. MrToade has two different files available. Point your phone's browser at each and download them both. Then go to your phone's media folder where ringtones and wallpapers are stored (NB: This is a typical functionality of cell phones; yours may differ, so whip out the User's Manual if confusion persists). In the ringtone folder (see NB), you should find both of the downloaded midis. On my Nokia, one plays, the other lists as an unknown format and won't open. I deleted the one that wouldn't play and kept the other, setting it as my preferred ringtone.

As far as the website I used to send my edited ringtone to, if they're now charging for the service, I'm sorry to hear that. She wasn't a prostitute when we dated...

To those who kept this thread alive, and provided the ringtones, thanks! I just tried it myself on my Samsung sch-a670, and it worked! I used this procedure (read about it on this thread or elsewhere):

1) first email myself a picture

2) reply to THAT email with the midi file attached

3) On the phone, when reading the message, save the sound as a custom sound

4) On the phone, set that custom sound as the ringtone.

VERY nice. I wish the midi were louder; there's no way I can use it as-is for a real ringtone. Perhaps I can amplify the midi file easily myself and resend it.

OK, here's an alternative...

once you've found your ringtone (i just downloaded this one http://home.comcast.net/~mrtoade/FORfirefly2.MID, which is pretty cool), go to www.coolservice.dk and upload it - they send you an ID code, then you just log onto to http://wap.coolservice.dk, enter the code & download your ringtone/picture etc to your phone. I've had the occasional problem, eg the file is too big but I'd definitely recommend it.

My cell phone can play "real music" and I have an mp3 of the Firefly theme but it's too long. You can only download about 30-40 seconds of any song to the phone. There's ways you can cut an mp3 file but it's beyond my technically challenged mind. So if anyone has a short mp3 of a partial Firefly theme and there's any way you can get it to me, that would be really cool and shiny.

That's the same problem I had....I could live with the MIDI version, except for the softness of it. I never hear it ringing. SO....I went to freeringers.net, got their file conversion program, and tried making my own version of the theme. Unfortunately, it was really, really choppy, so much so that I couldn't use it, no matter how I tried to modify/compress it. Some songs work great with it, others, not so much. I ended up with a really nice version of River's dance music from Safe (and it's a nice loud ring tone as well!), and my husband did the Brunnen-G theme from Lexx and the Looney Toons "factory" theme....nothing else really sounded right.

After we saw "Serenity", I played my theme song in the theater and we and a bunch of people sang along. It was very cool to have Firefly fans altogether like that.

I have created a Firefly ringtone as an MMF file ( http://mysite.verizon.net/nathan.tobol/MMF/FireflyRingtone.zip). It is useable by various phones including Samsung. If the file does not work on your phone, please tell me the format that you need and I will attempt to convert it.

Howdy all. A few months ago I downloaded a MIDI file of the firefly theme. It works fine on my Motorola Razr. I can email it (I think) to anyone that wants it.

I downloaded tonethis and converted a clear mp3 version of the Firefly Theme, yet when I upload (and then download) the converted file to my mobile, it really sounds like the theme has been taped from the radio, i.e. very bad quality. I'm very dissapointed with it, has anyone else suffered this when converting mp3's using "tonethis"?

Cheers,

Hey Prankster... I think the conversion issue with toneThis has to do with size of the file -- the program is shrinking the file so it will fit on most phones. Check the sound quality of the FF theme on SoCalBrowncoats Yahoo group -- I think it's the one I used to make my ringtones from, and my sound quality isn't bad. Try downloading my ringtones from the FILES section at SoCalBrowncoats -- I have "big damn heroes" as one of my ringtones, and you can hear the bugger all the way across the room. But I can email you pretty clear FF theme to use & see if it tranfers better using ToneThis. Also, go to their site www.tonethins.com and download their latest downloader package.

Prankster.. re: the bad sound quality of your ringtone using ToneThis... I recently got a new phone -- a Nokia 6201i or 6102i -- and all the MP3s I downloaded using ToneThis sucked. Now, having all these on my old Motorolla v400 made it clear (no pun intended) that the MP3s played nicely on my Motorolla v400, so I knew it was the Nokia phone itself. If you're using a Nokia 600-series, that's your "sound quality" problem. I replaced my Nokia upgrade phone with a Motorolla v557 and my MP3s sound Shiny as ever.

I have no idea if this thread is still active, but I have a panasonic VS2 ( in pink no less!) and I cannot find the ringtone that is compatible with it anywhere. Someone? Anyone? Help a sad girl down on her luck, it's frustrating me.

I just got a new LG VX8300 and apparently I can use a program called bitpim to transfer music to my phones ringtone file. So according to several cellphone forums I have been on it works pretty well. I haven't been able to use it yet myself because I haven't been home in over a week, but I aim to next weekend. Here is the program site, it isn't compatible with all phones, but you might get lucky.

This is the forum that I originally found the info on. Lots of good info on here.

Hope this helps somebody out.

Hey, I have a pretty crappy Motorola and I've been searching my butt off on the web to find a Ballad of Serenity ringtone. But all i get is dead-ends and scam-sites. I tried the links posted on this site but all the pages are out-of-date. Any help for a new FireFlyFan?

Well.....
I just upgraded from a Motorola v176 to an RealTone-compatible (AMR files) LG 600G. This phone allows me to record sound and set it as my ringtone, so I attempted to record the Ballad of Serenity and the Fruity Oaty Bar jingle off of Dizzler.

It sounds like caca.

Well, okay, it sounds SOMEWHAT better, now that I broke the best speakers that I have in the house to blast the song to the phone's mic, but still.....it's rather poor quality, and is not very loud. I could probably get the file via Bluetooth, should I download the song to my computer, then Bluetooth it to my phone, but until I get the USB device to do that...I'm on my own.

Therefore, does anyone have any advice on how to clean up recordings on a LG 600G? NET 10's plan is wonderful, but their ringtones suck!

What I did when I wanted a ringtone that I could not get to load properly was to,
Find a youtube version.
Play it over my good speakers.
Used the record setting on my phone.
Saved the file on the phone.
Used that file as a ringtone.
It took several playing and saving tries to get the proper sound and sound level.
Getting the phone in the right position in front of the speaker took a few tries too.

And it took a trip to the phone store to show me the right buttons to push to do the saving.

What I really wanted was a F-1 engine going through the gears at high rpm's.
Never could get that sound to play correctly on my phone and neither could the phone store.
We (the store tech and me) tried many times to get the engine sound to play and it just never sounded right.
Sounded great on the stores good speakers.

Passionately indifferent.
