Welcome DucesTecum! DragonCon is sci-fi overload, in a good way! My suggestion is to stay at one of the con hotels, Marriott Marquis or Hyatt. Call direct to see if they still have rooms. If not start a post here on the boards and let peopl know you would like to share a room (if you would). The Marriott is the quieter hotel and it's where the Art room and dealer's room is. The dealer's room is where the BDH's will be signing autographs. That goes for all the celebrity guests. Stop by the Firefly Fan Table to meet us and you can even volunteer if you want.

This will be first Dragon*Con.

While I would have loved the convenience of staying at one of the official hotels the $150 per night rate was more than I could afford. Having two teenage daughters seriously reduces my Sci-Fi budget!

If you are looking for a less expensive hotel you can check out the Super 8 Motel on Cone Street where I got a $65 rate when booking via their website. It's not too far away and while it certainly isn't as nice as the Hyatt or Marriott it is easier on the budget.

Hey Kevin, that's why you see how many Browncoats you can fit in one hotel room If they're skinny enough you can wind up paying a dollar each. Ok, that's an exaggeration and I know some folks don't like staying with strangers but we're not strangers, we're Browncoats. And yes, there are cheaper hotels but the convenience of staying at one of the Con hotels (to me) is so worth the extra dollars. Course, I should talk, there's 4 of us in the room so it's only about $40 each I guess it doesn't matter where you stay as long as you make it!

I wouldn't be surprised if autographs are held elsewhere this year. If you were there two years ago and saw how the line for James Marsters went out of the dealers room, out of the hotel, and out into the street... I'm guessing Joss's line will be considerably larger. I'm thinking that might be why they have moved registration. That's an enormous room, with queue line ability, that could be used for signings by the bigger guests, like Joss and the BDHs, Marina Sirtis, LeVar Burton, Dean Stockwell, Kevin Sorbo, etc... I would prefer if they used that room as a giant panel room... we'll see.

Glad the information was helpful. FireflyGal also made an excellent point about room sharing to keep the costs down as well. I think the daily walk will be good exercise for me anyway. It will help me work off some of that nervous energy I'll have and it will wake me up a bit after what I'm sure will be some late nights. It will be my first trip in many years without my wife and daughters so I may also "act a little foolish"!

About an hour or MORE! She is very popular and there is only a limited amount of autograph slots for each session! Oh, yeah and don't forget the books you want her to sign, like someone I know did (I won't mention my name).

To volunteer at the fan table just find it, in the Marriott somewhere (Jen can you help on the location? I thought I saw it mentioned) and sign on the sign up sheet! Easy peasey!

You're right, plus the BDH's line ended up outside last year during one part of the con. I hope DragonCon plans well, so people don't get ticked off. This is a lot of people's first Con and I'd hate to see a bad first impression!

FFGal, calling me DT is just fine. I feel awful silly though because I hadn't even thought about bringing a book for Anne McCaffrey to sign! Can you tell I've never been to one of these before?

If there has been a new book since The Skies of Pern, I haven't heard about it and that is the only hardcover I have although I do have all the rest in paperback (dragonrider series). Anyway, I just wanted to talk to her and ask her to write a book from the Dragon perspective only. I love their wisdom, wit and humor. Actually I like them better than some of the characters. Anyway, that was my main reason for wanting to see Ms. M.

That's a great thought about asking Anne to write from the Dragon's perspective. At least it will keep the series alive. I loved about half of the series. At some point I felt it was just reaching too far to find "sequels and prequels" but a Dragon perspective would be cool! And you certainly don't HAVE to bring stuff for her to autograph but if you're already on line, why not? She'll sign paperback or hard cover. There's probably a limit to how many she will sign at once but I don't know what it is.

If you were there last year and remember where the table was, it is very close to that location. I think they are trying to grab a space across from that so that it's not up against where the wall juts out. Fan tables are kind of a first come first serve thing so we have someone that is going down early to grab our spot. I can't wait!!!

So the plan to grab a spot near the foot of the escalators is out?

The foot of the escalators would have got us a lot of exposure.

So we will be near the door to the exhibitors hall again?

The problem with the spot at the foot of the escalators is the congestion that occurs there. People are just kind of herded along and can't stop to look at stuff. We wanted alot of traffic in a spot that people could actually stop. So we're shooting for near the exhibitors hall again. At the last meeting before DC (Aug 28) we're going to scope out exactly where we want it to be and make sure that we all know where everything is and all that good stuff.
