BIG DAMN SHINDIG AT DRAGONCON

Hey everybody!

Just got the news (literally 30 sec ago) that the room that we were going to be hosting the Shindig in has changed slightly.

BEFORE:
Shindig - scheduled 10pm Courtland Room.
Anticipated ability to hold 150 - 200 people.

NOW:
Shindig - scheduled 11:30pm International North
Room (former DCon Registration) expected attendance approximately 1000 people!!!

Had to edit for the following reason:

I just received the following from Cary about the SEBC and DragonCon:

The SEBC has just been informed this evening that effective this year, DragonCon does not allow their events to have sponsorships – meaning the Shindig. We have two options with regards to your wonderful Browncoat donations. We can use them to provide better give-away goodies at the booth and the costume contests and future events, as well as have a slightly bigger amount to donate to our charity after the event; or we can provide a refund to you – it is your choice. Please contact isaidso at mindspring dot com if you donated to advise your wishes. Our sincere apologies for this unexpected turn of events.

Any chance to get our BDHs to show up at the shindig, since you're now back to the drawing board? If I read correctly, there's gonna be one more meeting with the Dragon*Con peeps - maybe this could be mentioned to 'em, as well as the possibility of getting the BDHs in a car preceding the Browncoats at the parade on Saturday?

I'm bringing my trusty Xander - my digital camera, because it sees all things. I'll try to get an extra memory card, to make sure I have enough pictures of everything for everybody.

1000 Browncoats in one room?!? Think the Alliance will allow that many of us to gather in one place?

Hopefully some of the BDHs can put in an appearance. Wouldn't that just make an already shiny shindig just the best gorram party ever!

As for BDH's attending--do you really think they'd miss a party this ruttin' great?

I'm hoping that the bigger room means that the Shindig can accomodate live music as well as the already planned DJ. I know my band would love to come by and sing "The Ballad of Joss"--can you imagine a room of hundreds of Browncoats chiming in on "the creator of Firefly, the man the call Josssssss"? Plus we do a couple other Firefly-inspired songs.

I've heard that Emerald Rose might squeeze the Shindig into their schedule. Wouldn't it be shiny to have >two< professional bands?

So here's my question... as this is the first time that me and my sister will be attending the con, we really have no idea what to expect. Is a costume required for the shinding... or do people show up in just about everything??? We're pretty much going broke on this whole adventure (not that we're complaining) and costumes sadly are not in the budget ;)
