More of us (yes, it's us now
) have seen that Big Damn Movie.
Some, and more yet, are going to the Serenity² con. A few will be in the meet and greet.
But one question remains:
Where did Emma hide the chocolate?
Answers on a... Hey, what's the point? If any of us finds the chocolate, it's not like we're going to tell anyone, is it?

I'm not remotely excited anymore - nope, not one bit. In fact I'm a little bored of the whole thing - anyone want to buy my ticket? I'll throw in a free sweatshirt!

Well presumably you can't hear the "squeeeeeee" in space....
Hmmm, I did an essay at school once where the heroine was murdered at the end during a 4th July firework display, and ended with a play on her not being able to hear people scream in space. Can't remember what mark I got for that, but not sure it was the sort of thing we were supposed to be writing about...Mind you, I also did a "book" review of the Doomlord comic strip from "Eagle"!

No, it's not Smelly Cat, though that would be funny. I can't give you the tune since it's one Cedric made up. And I don't think he's got it recorded anywhere. Very simple though. I remembered the correct lyric on one of the lines so I went and changed it.

Excellent question - don't know whether we've had second printings yet.
Anyhoo, just phoned GOSH and asked them to put aside River & Simon for me. Damn it, just realised they have Kaylee as well - back on the phone! And Rel, I prefer to buy in store so I don't have to pay the same as the comic (or more) in P&P!
(hey, where's Carol? I wanted to know whether she sensed the virtual hug I sent her around 8.10 last night!)
Right, called GOSH back - am vaguely hopeful that they understood what on earth I was going on about (Them: "What's a "Kaylee" cover?", Me: "Smiling girl in dungarees."!)

Spinny-don't you start going all Jubal Early on us.
Here is my thought on the subject, though. When you squee, it is the external expression of an internal emotional response. So, even if the external sound is not heard, the internal response still happened, so the squee still existed, even if only internally. Make sense?
And when trees fall in the forest, the other trees hear and mourn.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have a second or two before you actually explode or decompress or whatever? That's just about enough time for one last, quick sque- if you ask me.

A neat little discussion of what really happens to a body in vacuum can be found at this link:
http://www.sff.net/people/Geoffrey.Landis/vacuum.html
A summary of the findings:
Quote:
A frequently asked question is: how realistic is the scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey where astronaut Bowman makes a space-walk without a helmet? How long could a human survive if exposed to vacuum? Would you explode? Would you survive? How long would you remain conscious?
The quick answers to these questions are: Clarke got it about right in 2001. You would survive about a ninety seconds, you wouldn't explode, you would remain conscious for about ten seconds.

What sort of payscale level can you live with? Some entry-level jobs have modest advancement potential and train you off the street; thinking supermarket cashier, for example.
IMNSDHO the food service and retail arenas devalue the worker to such a degree I'd avoid them except as last resorts.

A couple of large banks have headquarters up here, and hire entry-level positions in things like import/export money transfers; people who get such jobs begin with a 4.5-month training program, and only need such qualifications as being comfortable with computers and having moderate typing skills.
Similarly Met Life has a big local presence and hires claims handlers, or whatever phone people are called there.
Just some local examples; corporate headquarters presences generate a lot of clerical staff jobs that I imagine don't require much by way of initial skills sets. Assuming starting off the street with zero credentials limits the imagination somewhat.
There's a local organization called Working Solutions that specializes in matching job seekers with likely employers--and does it for free (non-profit, funded by grants). Something like that would be golden for you, methinks, if you can find such.

Rhiannon's a pretty name - and Joseph would have been nice too. But I think they did OK!
And Buffy is perfectly acceptable for animals - and blonde slayers. Noone else though.
Ha ha - can we buy a t-shirt with that on?!

Have I missed anyone? I know there are "unofficial" Randomers - Sam, Ryan but I'm talking about the "real" team!

Although I'm positive trekking to the UK and meeting you buncha nuts would be a wicked great time, I lack the disposable cash and the vacation time from work to pull it off. I'll be expecting a full report after the Shindig, though!

I'm highly offended that you missed me out there, Fray!
Anyway. Today has not been my best day ever. Turns out the bus I get home from uni has decided it only goes half way back to my house now - would have been nice of the driver to tell me when I got on the bus and said where I wanted to go of course, but oh no, who paid the price and had to walk home in the pouring rain? Yep. Me. Brilliant.
On the plus side though, my local comic book shop had ALL the covers of issues 1-3 of the comic except Book, so I'm now only missing Book. If anyone else can't find one that they want and wants to swap it for the Book cover I'm happy to go back and get it for them - they had a
Spoiler for Issue 3 of the comic and the movie
Okay, so apparently the spoiler tag isn't working for me. < Mutters > Any idea why?
So... anyone fancy cheering me up in my not-so-much-soggy-anymore state? (Only cos I've had a chance to try out while the board died!)

Good morning our thread,
You old crazy sight.
Good morning our thread,
Thought you'd crashed last night.
I turned and tossed cos I thought you were gone,
But here you are with the dawn...
I can't forget you, cos you’re here to stay.
It seems I met you,
When my life went away.
Now everyday I stop to post on you,
Good morning our thread, what’s new?
